[00:34:10] White nationalist groups in Canada are coming out of the
[00:34:13] shadows
[00:34:15] and they're building their combat skills. These new groups
[00:34:19] are part of a global movement calling themselves active clubs
[00:34:22] in Canada. They have links to terrorist groups and extremist
[00:34:25] militia like organizations
[00:34:27] and they try to hide where they are. They blur their faces and
[00:34:31] hide their surroundings. We dug through their social media
[00:34:34] channels and investigated hundreds of videos and images
[00:34:37] posted by these groups to reveal who they are and where
[00:34:40] they train.
[00:34:44] Well let's go see what this travesties are.
[00:34:49] If you've never heard of an active club,
[00:34:52] it might seem harmless. Who doesn't want to be active,
[00:34:55] right? In reality, they recruit white people to
[00:34:58] tribe and train. Basically their fascist fight clubs and
[00:35:01] they're on the rise around the world. In Canada this movement
[00:35:05] overlaps with violent terror groups. Take Atomwaffen
[00:35:08] Division, it was a neo Nazi group linked
[00:35:10] to multiple murders in the US. It was listed as a terrorist
[00:35:14] entity in Canada in 2021. That's when many former members
[00:35:17] joined active clubs.
[00:35:19] And as we're about to show you, there's a bit of a theme here.
[00:35:22] This is probably one of the fastest growing far right
[00:35:25] extremist threats in Canada. Now,
[00:35:27] these groups say they're not looking for fist fights in the
[00:35:30] streets, yet they often refer to a
[00:35:32] looming global conflict and a time when civility will be
[00:35:35] unnecessary. These are people that in many cases are training
[00:35:38] for what they believe is to be an upcoming race war. The
[00:35:41] potential for violence and the potential for something
[00:35:44] catastrophic to happen is extremely high.
[00:35:50] One of the main groups behind this mask demonstration in
[00:35:54] Toronto is Nationalist 13, or NS-13, based out of Hamilton,
[00:35:57] ON. Members are open about their views. In this video from
[00:36:01] NS-13's Telegram channel, 1 of their members poses with a
[00:36:05] Nazi lighter on Hitler's birthday. The group called him
[00:36:09] one of the greatest men to ever live,
[00:36:11] saying one day we will see his vision come true. So in a post
[00:36:15] like this, even though there may be no mention
[00:36:19] of the Jewish people when they're referring to Jews,
[00:36:21] and in this particular case, anti-Semitism would clearly
[00:36:25] fall within the scope of the Criminal Code prohibition. So
[00:36:28] you think this is hate speech? Yeah,
[00:36:31] I think a lot of what's said in the post that you provided me
[00:36:34] with would would constitute hate speech under the Criminal
[00:36:38] Code. And these stickers that they put up in Hamilton's parks
[00:36:42] say National Socialists, Nazis. And here's where we find
[00:36:45] another link to a terrorist group. The Canadian Proud Boys
[00:36:49] expanded in 2021 after they were designated a terrorist
[00:36:52] entity following the January 6th US Capitol Riot.
[00:36:56] This is Brandon Lapointe. We find him wearing a Proud Boy
[00:37:00] shirt in multiple images. He's now a prominent member of MS13.
[00:37:04] Heavy matches, tattoos, rings, and his shorts. In this image
[00:37:08] posted by the group, we locate where they've been in
[00:37:12] Hamilton and city parks like Myrtle Park. Here
[00:37:16] you can see that this building matches exactly. We went to
[00:37:19] this location and every other to confirm ourselves. They've
[00:37:22] been sparring in broad daylight, like in this video from Gage
[00:37:26] Park in Hamilton.
[00:37:28] You could see the bathroom here and Dome here. Match the
[00:37:32] sketchbook. Oh well, shoot. And that's even closer
[00:37:35] towards the Children's Garden specifically.
[00:37:39] Ah, that's really upsetting to see.
[00:37:41] Yeah, I think that's a serious public
[00:37:43] safety concern. The rise of extremist organizing is a
[00:37:47] national security threat. So public parks are one thing,
[00:37:50] but we also find them in privately owned gyms,
[00:37:53] which they try to hide by obscuring the images they share.
[00:37:57] Nationalists 13 have a ton of pictures at this gym,
[00:38:00] with members often sparring or posing in the boxing ring. In
[00:38:04] another photo from the gym, this MS13 member is wearing a
[00:38:07] will to raise shirt. Will terrorize
[00:38:10] the clothing brand that markets itself to active clubs. There
[00:38:13] aren't many clues visible in these videos,
[00:38:16] but we spot this one in this video. You can see the edge of
[00:38:19] this boxing glove deckle here. It matches up with this
[00:38:22] promotional video for Amazing Fitness,
[00:38:24] a popular and family owned gym in downtown Hamilton. The ring
[00:38:28] and the windows match 2 an upstairs in the weightlifting
[00:38:31] section. This portion of the wall matches exactly the area
[00:38:34] behind the Man and the Will to Rise shirt. Remember Brandon
[00:38:38] Lapointe, the MS13 member we identify
[00:38:40] here? He is at Amazing Fitness
[00:38:46] so we drive to the gym to share our findings. The manager says
[00:38:50] he had no idea this was happening. A few days later he
[00:38:53] sends an e-mail and tells us we have no affiliation whatsoever
[00:38:57] with these individuals or ideology and we categorically
[00:39:00] reject any form of hate or discrimination. The fact that
[00:39:03] the gym owner doesn't know that they were training doesn't
[00:39:07] surprise me at all. It just goes to show how manipulative
[00:39:10] these groups are that they are going to lie about what they're
[00:39:14] doing.
[00:39:18] Now let's switch gears for a second. Besides nationalist 13,
[00:39:21] there's a new group called second sons. Second sons
[00:39:24] doesn't call themselves an active club,
[00:39:27] but they have the same MO. It's an offshoot of Diagon,
[00:39:30] a group that's on the radar of Canadian law enforcement,
[00:39:33] which considers them an extremist militia like
[00:39:36] organization and second sons, a nationalist 13. They actually
[00:39:39] know each other. This is Alex friend help,
[00:39:42] prominent member of Diagon and now second son. We're doing a
[00:39:46] createspace with the guys from Nationalist 13. Rent is also an
[00:39:50] open white supremacist. It's very simple. No Jews,
[00:39:53] no Jews. Here's friend posing at a gym that we identify as
[00:39:58] Hammer BJJ by matching up the wall padding and light switch
[00:40:02] with images from social media.
[00:40:12] We drive there too, to talk to the owner. This is
[00:40:15] Rob Barrow, the owner of Hammer BJ,
[00:40:17] and he says he had no idea this happened at his school. I don't
[00:40:22] affiliate myself with with any sort of white supremacy groups
[00:40:26] or any sort of supremacy from any faction, any race,
[00:40:29] any culture. I have a a firm policy that I don't want that
[00:40:33] those types of behaviors or those types of
[00:40:37] energies in this place. I'm trying to protect that and
[00:40:39] trying to foster into something good for the kids of the
[00:40:42] community that can come here and and better their life. This
[00:40:45] is something we're seeing happen across the martial arts
[00:40:48] community is just kind of insidious, gross of
[00:40:52] far right influence within it and to see something that is so
[00:40:56] positive to me and many other people being Co opted like this,
[00:40:59] it's not something I like to see. Second Sons also posted a
[00:41:03] photo that they say is from Hamilton,
[00:41:05] but that's not accurate. This photo is actually from Niagara,
[00:41:09] from this Brazilian jujitsu Joe Niagara. BJ. Well, again,
[00:41:13] we go and share our findings. They told us they didn't know
[00:41:17] Second Sons had been training there and now that they know,
[00:41:20] they're not welcome there anymore.

[01:31:53] This is my baby. Alana Swayze has an eye for photography,
[01:31:56] but a proposed 78% rent increase is changing. Her
[01:32:00] picture was just kind of nice that I'm in a place where I can
[01:32:05] finally get ahead. She considers her W Broadway
[01:32:08] bachelor suite a steal, but maybe not much longer. Her
[01:32:13] monthly rent is just $533 a month,
[01:32:15] but the new landlords Wingspan Properties want to Jack her
[01:32:20] rent to $948 a month.
[01:32:22] I was surprised. I'm like, I don't, I,
[01:32:24] I really like this place. I also feel like there are
[01:32:28] precautions in place that landlords are not supposed to
[01:32:32] get away with an increase like this. Landlords can apply for
[01:32:36] rent hikes above this year's limit of 1.8%,
[01:32:39] but they must prove to the Residential Tenancies branch
[01:32:43] their higher operating costs justify the increase. This year,
[01:32:48] Wingspan refurbished hallways, stairwells and added new locks,
[01:32:52] saying the upgrades will preserve the century old
[01:32:56] building. We are so the landlord numbers sources of
[01:33:01] income. However, Eli Bronstein says the
[01:33:04] renovations tenants want are inside their units,
[01:33:08] not outside. He says those fixes, like his leaky radiator,
[01:33:13] have been ignored. These are far greater significance than
[01:33:18] the, and I would like to emphasize
[01:33:21] this, mainly cosmetic improvements
[01:33:23] in the common areas. The Manitoba government plans to
[01:33:27] limit how much renovation costs landlords can pass on to
[01:33:31] tenants, but the province has yet to
[01:33:33] enact the change or offer a timeline. We urge them to do so
[01:33:37] imminently as tenants are suffering from these kinds of
[01:33:41] very serious rent increases. Swayze plans to fight the
[01:33:45] proposed rent increase through the Residential Tenancies
[01:33:49] Branch. She's doing what she can to keep this place her home.

[01:33:59] Outside is downtown restaurant, public drug use has spiked with
[01:34:03] it vandalism, aggressive behavior,
[01:34:05] up to 7 overdoses and night. General manager Brendan Galley
[01:34:09] says it's impacting the businesses bottom line. If we
[01:34:13] don't see a transition where this community,
[01:34:15] this block feels healthy and safe again,
[01:34:18] we may not be here next year and that's a scary thought for
[01:34:22] us. Police tried to address those concerns earlier this
[01:34:26] year would attend a crackdown on open drug use.
[01:34:29] They say they're sweep help decrease crime,
[01:34:32] leading to 106 arrests. Now we will be launched again on
[01:34:37] Friday and ran until November. There's gonna be more resources
[01:34:42] out on the street, more regular and I think that's
[01:34:45] going to definitely show some progress. The same areas of
[01:34:50] downtown, Point Douglas and Osborne will
[01:34:53] be covered. But this time around,
[01:34:55] our reach workers from 11 organizations are involved.
[01:35:00] Some of those groups were critical of police during the
[01:35:03] first sweep because they weren't consulted. Community
[01:35:07] groups will now increase their presence where the crackdown is
[01:35:10] happening, sometimes walk along with
[01:35:13] uniformed officers to connect people with options for
[01:35:16] recovery. It's not just those that are using or those that
[01:35:19] are dealing like this is a human issue. And and, you know,
[01:35:23] these are our people, these are our relatives. Would
[01:35:26] resources already strained? Anderson says outreach
[01:35:29] organizations would likely need to bring more
[01:35:32] workers and other advocate worries once people connect
[01:35:36] with outreach groups, there won't be enough spots to
[01:35:40] provide treatment, leaving people at risk. Police
[01:35:43] presence doesn't reduce peoples usage but does force people to
[01:35:47] make choices about how they use, which can be a lot less safe.

[01:35:56] crackdown alone. He says businesses have taken care of
[01:36:00] security, but resources are needed to help
[01:36:04] people using substances. That's ultimately what we want. Right
[01:36:07] now, we're just a little overwhelmed
[01:36:09] with the amount and the volume of people that we're having to
[01:36:13] work with. Striking a balance between enforcement and
[01:36:17] outreach to eventually not need drug sweeps down the road.

[01:40:51] Senator Kramer joins me now. Thank you very much for joining us today, Sir. You had a meeting with
[01:40:55] Minister LeBlanc. Tell us about it.
[01:40:58] Well, first of all, it's always a pleasure to,
[01:41:00] to receive the minister and, and it was,
[01:41:03] it was great to be able to, to, to meet Janice Charlotte and,
[01:41:07] and get her perspective as well. In fact,
[01:41:09] I saw the minister at the Nationals game last week when
[01:41:13] they were playing Montreal and, and,
[01:41:15] and Ambassador Wiseman throughout the,
[01:41:17] the opening pitch. And I think he put it right across the
[01:41:21] plate. So it's always good to see him. But I think this
[01:41:24] particular meeting was enjoyable because I feel like
[01:41:27] there's some momentum taking place and the relationship in some of the
[01:41:31] negotiations and it was just, it was just a pleasure to to
[01:41:34] get caught up. You say momentum. What leads you to say that?
[01:41:37] What is happening that leads you to say that there might be
[01:41:40] something happening right now?
[01:41:43] Sure. Well, a couple of things. First of
[01:41:45] all, it certainly appears in the
[01:41:47] last they'll probably 3 weeks or so that there's been more of
[01:41:51] a green light from leadership perhaps in both countries to
[01:41:54] intensify the the negotiations. Of course,
[01:41:57] that was probably precipitated by the 338 tariff announcement
[01:42:00] from the president. And, and so it only makes sense that
[01:42:04] that everyone would be rolling up their sleeves and,
[01:42:07] and working a little bit harder at it. And, and I,
[01:42:10] I've always been encouraged, of course, by the relationship is,
[01:42:14] is sort of up and down as it's been over the course of the
[01:42:17] last year or so. This is the first time in a long time that
[01:42:21] I've felt like there's a seriousness. So we're grateful
[01:42:24] to see Canada engaging in such a significant way,
[01:42:27] but also grateful to see, to see that the United States
[01:42:30] negotiators, Jamison Greer and, and the others and the
[01:42:33] president and the Prime Minister quite honestly
[01:42:36] engaging with one another. So I'm encouraged just if by
[01:42:39] nothing else, simply by that openness that we
[01:42:42] see taking place. The 338 tariffs, those
[01:42:44] are the 50% tariffs on approximately $28 billion worth
[01:42:48] of Canadian goods, right? Do you want those tariffs to
[01:42:52] come into force?
[01:42:54] I would like there to be enough progress over the course of the
[01:42:58] next couple of weeks that those tariffs would not need to go
[01:43:01] into place. As you know, there are some exemptions to those tariffs that are important to probably to North
[01:43:07] Dakotans as much as they are to Canadians. Things like potash,
[01:43:10] for example, energy itself, that's that's sort of exempt
[01:43:13] from from all of that. But other things like hockey sticks
[01:43:16] and some of the products you're familiar with are still under
[01:43:19] that tariff. I, I just would like to see the
[01:43:21] activity level that we're starting to see already a
[01:43:24] pickup and see some momentum and then
[01:43:26] be some substance in the discussions. And you know, we,
[01:43:29] we may not know the outcomes for sure,
[01:43:32] but I think momentum matters, Katie,
[01:43:35] in this case. But I think some substance could be the thing
[01:43:39] that that either gets the, you know, the,
[01:43:42] the 338 suspended or even, or extended for,
[01:43:45] for some time. By extended, I mean, you know,
[01:43:48] the start of them kicking in after August 19th. And so again,
[01:43:52] I remain optimistic, but we do have to see some
[01:43:56] substantive,
[01:43:57] I think negotiations that result in substantive solutions.
[01:44:00] So the the Trump administration announced this plan to
[01:44:03] introduce these new tariffs. They say it is because Canada
[01:44:06] retaliated. But the only reason that Canada retaliated against
[01:44:10] the United States with things like some provinces enforcing a
[01:44:13] booze ban, certain tariffs and quotas and
[01:44:16] other sectors. The only reason that took place is because
[01:44:19] President Donald Trump launched a trade war against Canada and,
[01:44:23] and did not, you know, stick by the agreement,
[01:44:25] the Kuzma, the USMC agreement that
[01:44:27] this right now and impose tariffs on Canadian sectors as
[01:44:31] well as broader tariffs as well. Do you understand that the
[01:44:35] Canadians when they see Donald Trump escalate this,
[01:44:38] that there is a sentiment across this country that people
[01:44:42] want to dig in and fight back?
[01:44:45] Oh, I, I understand it. Believe me,
[01:44:47] being a senator from a border state,
[01:44:49] I was once the tourism director in North Dakota. We,
[01:44:52] we welcomed about 1 000, 000 Canadian visitors a year in
[01:44:56] that those days. I'm sure it's more than that, although,
[01:44:59] so we feel it to your point, the personal level of,
[01:45:02] of concern and anger. We feel that from the Canadian people.
[01:45:06] Having said that, Donald Trump is responding to
[01:45:09] Canada's retaliation. You're correct. He, he, you know,
[01:45:13] he made the first Bally, but he did
[01:45:15] with many countries throughout the world. And yet Canada and,
[01:45:19] and China are the only two countries that that started
[01:45:22] discriminating against US products and that's what
[01:45:26] prompted the 338 tariffs. All of that to say, I do understand,
[01:45:30] you know, the Canadians are concerned
[01:45:32] about it, but at the same time, we can resolve all this. I have
[01:45:36] no question about that. No doubt about that. And that's
[01:45:40] why I'm, that's why I'm more encouraged
[01:45:42] today by what I heard both from Minister LeBlanc
[01:45:45] as well as from Janice Charlotte and what I even heard
[01:45:48] in an interview that you did with foreigner former premier
[01:45:52] shares. So I, I just think that it's,
[01:45:54] there's a great opportunity here that will facilitate A
[01:45:57] conclusion, actually maybe say conclusion,
[01:45:59] but facilitate enough progress that that the Canadian people
[01:46:03] can feel better about it, that the American people can
[01:46:06] feel better about it. And more importantly,
[01:46:08] there are two nations can do some business together. That's
[01:46:12] important for both of us. You are a Republican senator. You
[01:46:15] are an ally of President Donald Trump, and part of the reason why
[01:46:18] Canadian officials keep meeting with you is because they know
[01:46:21] that you have a connection to the White House, you have President Donald Trump's ear,
[01:46:26] and you have expressed public support to sort of end the
[01:46:28] trade war. When was the last time you you brought this up
[01:46:31] with the president and what did you say to him?
[01:46:35] Well, it's interesting. I was in the
[01:46:37] Oval Office a couple of weeks ago with him. We did not talk
[01:46:40] about Canada, but I did. But I did visit with,
[01:46:43] with Jameson girl on my way out the door a little bit about
[01:46:47] Canada. And he was, you know, he was encouraged by the recent
[01:46:51] outreach, if you will, by, by the Prime Minister to the
[01:46:54] president as well as Minister LeBlanc. And so I, I just,
[01:46:58] I just feel like this is the moment because I don't believe
[01:47:01] that would have happened unless Donald Trump had given the
[01:47:05] green light. Ambassador Greer to do that again,
[01:47:08] much more substantive outreach, much more personal engagement
[01:47:12] from the top and throughout the ranks. And,
[01:47:14] and that gives me encouragement. So,
[01:47:17] but the president and I do talk about Canada. In fact,
[01:47:20] most of the time when I talked to him,
[01:47:22] which is fairly regularly, I bring up Canada. We,
[01:47:26] we have cordial, but you know, I tend to be a little more
[01:47:29] concerned about the situation. He's very confident about the
[01:47:33] outcome. I think it's really important, Katie, to
[01:47:36] for Canadian people to, to think about it this way. Yes,
[01:47:40] we're neighbors. Yes, we're friends. We've got the
[01:47:43] most, the longest and the longest
[01:47:45] running as well as the longest miles or kilometers of peaceful
[01:47:48] border in any between any two countries in the world.
[01:47:53] But the president is frustrated and understandably so,
[01:47:56] by the fact that this 32 1/2 trillion dollar economy down
[01:47:59] here and year 2 1/2 trillion dollar economy up there results
[01:48:02] in a trade imbalance that is to the to the favor of Canada. Now,
[01:48:05] you know, we're, we're probably never going to
[01:48:08] be a exact balance. I don't know,
[01:48:10] but we can certainly do better than that. That's because the
[01:48:13] United States needs Canadian energy. That's why there is the
[01:48:16] imbalance is because you guys need Canadian energy,
[01:48:20] OK? And, and fortunately energy is off
[01:48:23] the off of the plate for the 338 tariffs. I think the
[01:48:26] president recognizes that. And I would submit to you, Katie,
[01:48:30] once we get past the, the skirmish, if you will,
[01:48:32] if that's what you'd want to call it, the family feud,
[01:48:36] if you, if I could call it that. I
[01:48:38] think energy, much like food production and
[01:48:41] national security are some of the areas where as a continent,
[01:48:44] or at least as you know, as two countries,
[01:48:47] 2 neighbors that share a common love for peace and freedom can
[01:48:51] really would be stronger together. I think we all recognize that. I
[01:48:55] know that Prime Minister Carney has made tremendous strides,
[01:48:59] I think in Canada's commitment to NATO and beyond our work
[01:49:02] with Golden Dome, clearly we can't protect the
[01:49:05] northern part of the United States without helping protect
[01:49:09] Canada and vice versa. So there's so much more good we
[01:49:12] can do together going forward. But these are not insignificant
[01:49:16] issues. The dairy issue, the the software lumber issue,
[01:49:19] these are not insignificant issues for that. For that
[01:49:22] matter, I'm steel and aluminum and the intertwining of our of our
[01:49:26] supply chains critical not just to 1 country or the other,
[01:49:29] but to both countries. The last thing I want to ask you about
[01:49:33] is if there's any clarity you have from the Trump
[01:49:35] administration about what exactly what action President
[01:49:38] Donald Trump is going to be taking against Canada because
[01:49:42] of the wildfire smoke. He said recently that he was asked by a
[01:49:45] reporter whether he decided on a punishment for Canada because
[01:49:49] of the wildfire smoke. He said yes,
[01:49:51] but he didn't reveal any details. What is Donald Trump
[01:49:54] could be doing about that? Well, I would leave that up to Donald
[01:49:58] Trump. I, I don't have any clarity to
[01:50:00] share with you. And if I did, I don't know that I would
[01:50:03] because I don't know. I, I don't know would. See,
[01:50:06] I always tell you this coming from a Prairie state on the
[01:50:09] Canadian border, when that heavy smoke comes
[01:50:11] down from the prevailing northern northwest winds from
[01:50:14] Saskatchewan or Alberta, Manitoba into North Dakota,
[01:50:17] it's frustrating. However, I have a good understanding of
[01:50:20] just how much force there really is up in Canada,
[01:50:23] how difficult that challenge is for for the Canadian
[01:50:26] people as much as it is for us. And I think that's another one
[01:50:30] of those challenges that perhaps together we could help,
[01:50:33] we could help fix rather than, you know,
[01:50:36] rather than argue over, over dairy. Do Donald Trump's
[01:50:39] threats against Canada help fix the, the, the issue?
[01:50:44] I I think that Donald Trump's, you can call them threats or,
[01:50:47] or ultimatums. Well, it's a threat. It's a threat.
[01:50:50] He's threatening to impose tariffs. He's threatening to
[01:50:54] impose tariffs. Yeah. So, so here's what Donald Trump is
[01:50:57] a master negotiator who always negotiates from position of
[01:51:01] strength. He understands intuitively that we have,
[01:51:04] you know, 350 million people in the
[01:51:06] United States. We have a 32 1/2 trillion dollar economy and
[01:51:09] that there's that we probably can call a few of the shots.
[01:51:13] That's what Donald Trump
[01:51:14] does as a businessman. So he's doing as a leader. At the same
[01:51:18] time, I think it's really, really important that those of
[01:51:21] us who who are going to be here after Donald Trump was here,
[01:51:24] who were here before Donald Trump got here,
[01:51:27] continue the relationship in, in in a friendly way as we do
[01:51:30] serious business. So that so that time will come and time
[01:51:33] will go and this will still be the most peaceful long border
[01:51:36] in the history of the world. Senator Kramer,
