[00:00:28] of [00:00:33] of [00:00:34] of [00:00:41] and [00:00:41] of they can reality now the [00:00:46] of of celebrations [00:00:47] of to take the corner kick, she swings it in the area [00:00:51] and that's a goal for [00:00:52] Nigeria, one was [00:00:56] good, it's twice as nice, [00:01:00] just before [00:01:03] of the has helped Nigeria double [00:01:07] the lead right [00:01:08] here [00:01:13] of anyway from home will be [00:01:14] of good but for our pedigree [00:01:18] and quality that we have forget about the name [00:01:21] of the nation Nigeria [00:01:24] a yes we play them with all respect but first [00:01:28] have bar was a [00:01:32] of bit, i knew at some [00:01:34] a point a was [00:01:35] of just amount [00:01:38] of of time because the came from beginning till the end of first half and i want to [00:01:42] say good [00:01:44] fight, but we still show that super [00:01:47] priority. [00:01:58] of [00:02:02] Hello and welcome to Channel Sport on Sunday, I'm [00:02:06] Ken, uh, it's one of [00:02:10] those busy weeks, um, how do we say, before you come to [00:02:14] this, before you come to today and look at the expectations where we're [00:02:18] coming from, uh, it's where we want to look at, because it's been a [00:02:22] very, very busy week, we did tell you on Sunday before [00:02:25] we left, um, [00:02:28] of that you know the great [00:02:29] one, Lion Messi. uh will be uh playing his last match [00:02:33] for Argentina uh that that was on [00:02:36] Tuesday and it was against our neighbors yeah our [00:02:40] closed neighbors uh Bene republic uh that [00:02:44] match has come and [00:02:45] of gone and right [00:02:46] of now after two is it 2006 or [00:02:50] 208 games I mean you know uh he has called uh [00:02:54] it quits scoring about 126 I [00:02:56] of think 208 and 126 goals he said look no mass and want [00:03:00] to concentrate on my [00:03:02] of club [00:03:06] of you know of activities, so but few uh uh controversies over there uh, you can take [00:03:10] it at the whole world that the whole world has [00:03:13] celenow celebrating and keep [00:03:15] celebrating [00:03:18] of messy uh the man [00:03:21] of won that is more than what you have in one [00:03:25] hand, your fingers in [00:03:27] of one hand um the champions league countless times. [00:03:30] you know [00:03:31] a Cup America uh and then also won the world cup so when [00:03:35] you've done that [00:03:36] you know at every level it means you have accomplished and nigerians won't forget [00:03:39] him at the under 20 uh where uh they [00:03:43] did send us parking and with [00:03:46] of lanel because win the MVP and the title too and [00:03:49] also at the Olympics so he's won everything you think that is [00:03:54] of winnable uh you know from the youth level you know to the op [00:03:57] level we talk about it poli uh of course [00:04:01] of apart from him there is also the other man uh the portuguese he [00:04:05] called [00:04:06] uh uh Cristiano [00:04:10] of of Ronaldo and [00:04:13] of it is like you know two sides of a coin because [00:04:14] in a while the world the argentines you know are sending [00:04:18] off Messi from the international stage uh there is that [00:04:21] controversy between Cristiano Ronaldo and his national team you know [00:04:25] because of you know uh being used and not being used and then [00:04:29] he's walked out [00:04:30] of the team because he was [00:04:31] not used being asked to warm up for about 30 minutes and was [00:04:34] and you substitute, he walked out [00:04:37] of the team and then uh the portuguese you know uh [00:04:40] football association has suspended him, but i know talks are on [00:04:44] the way you to menfenses so that by november uh by the [00:04:48] november uh uh you [00:04:51] know uh uh mid the fifa [00:04:54] fifah season then he will come back and [00:04:58] be part of that team. and mean there is all it's all been there [00:05:02] uh because he said look it we agreed on certain things and the manager did [00:05:06] not do it after he did not use me on that [00:05:10] so uh that that one is that but [00:05:12] there was a bigger news, [00:05:13] there was a bigger news also concerning Nigeria and the World [00:05:17] Cup. I remember that we were knocked out by the R. [00:05:20] Kongu uh in the during the playoffs and then it [00:05:24] you the times of New York came up with a scoop and [00:05:28] said yes they have seen documents showing that you [00:05:31] know [00:05:36] was not eligible you know to play for the [00:05:39] aruko so um that's has [00:05:42] packed up lot of uh discussions i was look was [00:05:46] Nigeria robbed should have been there and did fifa [00:05:49] interfare fifa legal disciplinary committee the [00:05:53] appeals committee those are independent but we've seen where [00:05:57] infantino especially um during the world cup where [00:06:00] infantino was you said when the usa [00:06:03] uh off there but fifa came out with his [00:06:07] statements and nigerian protest has [00:06:09] you know uh was declared you inadmiss [00:06:18] file [00:06:19] we the didn't protest on time, so that's you know was what happened, i said [00:06:23] based on that one, they did not look at the merit the case, but [00:06:27] then they also said the disciplinary decision was communicated, [00:06:31] you understand you to Nigeria early March [00:06:35] 2026 and as [00:06:37] no proper appeal was made, [00:06:40] Nigeria didn't you any appeal. so the decision became you [00:06:44] know final and binding you understand so probably if Nigeria of [00:06:48] course uh you done that say defaulting uh they all want [00:06:51] to say defaulting Congo's results in the qualifying [00:06:55] games that mpasi played you know uh would have sent [00:06:58] Burkina Faso you understand instead into the [00:07:02] African playoffs so have even [00:07:05] qualified if [00:07:07] you know uh uh if uh they have been they've [00:07:10] disqualified the games and all the games nolifine the [00:07:14] games that [00:07:15] Diaro Congo played using in passing and some of those games are the [00:07:19] games against Togo, the games against [00:07:23] Sudan and then the game against Cameron, the game are [00:07:26] you so most of those games were because if those were you those [00:07:30] guns were removed then they wouldn't have gotten the points that they [00:07:33] got, it would have been, we show you those games, it would have been burkina [00:07:37] faso that would have been there and not and not the [00:07:41] rongo so... i looked at all those look, why go back to this and [00:07:45] come back to the other one, let us continue from th you areas [00:07:48] and that was what they did, but niger look when we want [00:07:52] to go and sue fifa uh so that they can we look at the merit [00:07:56] we only give you the merit the of those cases uh [00:08:00] so that [00:08:01] is that and then our under our super [00:08:05] falcons also you know during the week they did play uh comorus [00:08:08] and then uh those those games the first on friday that [00:08:12] second one on Tuesday and then those games both both games [00:08:15] to be played at the same venue in Nigeria at the Real Stadium in Kenne so that is [00:08:19] where [00:08:19] you know it will [00:08:20] be you know they want by two goals to nothing and then the return leg will be [00:08:24] right there on Tuesday remember that [00:08:28] uh uh Comorus Comorus defeated Sudan you [00:08:32] South Sudan in the in their by 30 goals to [00:08:36] nothing uh uh both both of those games were played both of those [00:08:40] games were played right there in Morocco. [00:08:45] so so they do not have a home, not they [00:08:49] don't have [00:08:50] you know uh fifa uh standard uh [00:08:54] pitch where they could prosecute those games in [00:08:57] African uh qualifiers last week we told [00:09:00] you here when we brought in Michel OB and we looked at you know [00:09:04] uh Nigeria having about four federal stadium over [00:09:08] 20 22 23 24 you - state stadiums [00:09:11] own by the. about individuals and none them probably apart from you he [00:09:15] said you meet the particular standard so when when things like this happen [00:09:19] African countries i think about 15 them playing their games in [00:09:22] Morocco and other things i this is just what uh the [00:09:26] late on called the squandering of riches because those [00:09:30] stadia is what could have been earning of earning us money revenue [00:09:34] instead of we are looking at getting our teams not being there [00:09:38] so we we're going to discuss a lot of that uh uh we have guest who will join [00:09:41] all soon but before then the katalan is in the house [00:09:45] uh barcelona starting the season with eight straight wins eight [00:09:49] wins eight eight over eight eight over [00:09:52] eight impressive that music 10 over 10 10 over 10 this is eight eight over eight is getting [00:09:55] there you can't be [00:10:02] 208 that's number of appearances and 208 yeah and [00:10:06] 12626 goals for the national team and i think [00:10:09] 68 assists for the national team. fantastic career, [00:10:13] especially for a player that a point in his career that times actually told him to leave, [00:10:17] they don't want to see him anymore, because he had not won anything for them, but look at [00:10:21] how he has bowed out, bow out with so much grace, so much... i [00:10:25] know it's something that people like us that supported for very long time [00:10:29] like to see, for cristiano ronaldo, i knew the were going to sort it out, [00:10:33] rather unfortunate how the whole team pand out, but i think probably has learned his lesson, [00:10:37] yeah have also learned their lesson, we know who is in charge and let us see what [00:10:40] happens over over the next couple of weeks, um for [00:10:44] the super eagles and uh all the issue with dr [00:10:48] congo can, i think the team that was most directly affected by all of this was [00:10:51] jamaica because that was the they played again can go for [00:10:55] that intercontinental playoff to determine which one the two them would actually [00:10:59] make it you know to uh uh the world cup, but if we [00:11:03] also want to look at it, i know some people that complain about the fact that oh maybe argentina had easy [00:11:07] route, portugal might have had it easy, well one the things that actually prevented portugal [00:11:11] from making it finishing top their group was [00:11:13] congoasi was the major [00:11:17] because he prevented portugal from putting more than one past [00:11:21] him that game ended in one or draw and all but made sure that Portugal did make [00:11:25] finish top of top of that group, you understand? so if [00:11:29] anybody, if everybody start filing different claims, i think Portugal [00:11:32] will file, remember he also played race england, he considered just two goals, but he should have been like [00:11:36] seven, he was also one the best players on the page on the day as [00:11:40] well, but regardless of all of this kind, i said this the last time we talked about this, we should have [00:11:44] done the business on the field of play, simple and not looking at how we can [00:11:48] go through the different technicalities to get it going to the bodroom, but but like i [00:11:52] said you were talking about england, portugal. and other ones, [00:11:56] burkina faso would have been the team that would have played the playoffs [00:11:59] and those games because they won against [00:12:02] tur they won against we should not join the queue because they [00:12:06] beat cameron before they even played [00:12:08] us Nigeria is always when [00:12:12] it comes out and then we now [00:12:14] we are trying to yeah we were justified in going to this if you are [00:12:17] justified you would have filed your cas early you [00:12:20] have paid [00:12:20] 2, [00:12:26] the f file whatever [00:12:27] it is so you didn't do all that, but let us see i know there will be [00:12:31] some some dramas will still be drumming that you know uh we want to take fifa to [00:12:34] call that is it, [00:12:35] but there is another another news that you don't want to miss here uh [00:12:39] because uh uh till uh november the [00:12:42] 18th that is when the you know - candidates or who wants to [00:12:46] contest for the fifa presidency, you know right now you and said look [00:12:50] infantino the are 55 members look we don't want you so [00:12:54] it's like the password. as and venga venga has [00:12:57] coming, the formal top has fire you come, [00:13:01] all you need is just five five member to endorse you, but right now they are [00:13:05] asking - venga to say look guy can you come and do this [00:13:09] yes uh what do you think to it's it's a [00:13:13] massive leap but we've seen him move past coaching and uh what [00:13:17] he's done for the game post fifa's head of a [00:13:20] global yeah so he development development [00:13:23] and and and and we've seen his takes a lot of things happening in the game [00:13:27] and he's he's actually one the most brilliant minds in football as well, but you [00:13:31] also understand the political involved in running, but [00:13:35] if he he understand the political now [00:13:38] that what saying his post coaching career, he's been he's been in the [00:13:42] bodroom all this while one the most brilliant minds in the [00:13:45] game uh it will be an interesting prospect seeing as a venga as [00:13:49] fifa president [00:13:51] president I'm [00:13:55] going back to as when I started watching him, I know, star [00:13:59] coaching coaching a who would have thought that from [00:14:02] here, from coaching to the boardroom, the next thing, there's a potential that he [00:14:06] might actually emerge as candidate, but but you could understand [00:14:10] why all these are issues because there have been too many [00:14:14] issues with fifa, yeah [00:14:17] uh fifa board, there's been so much drama, [00:14:21] there's been so much rockers, there's been so much problems that to a large extent. [00:14:25] people are saying you what, enough is enough, we can't take this anymore, you [00:14:29] understand? if if he had done what he was supposed to do, he'l probably not be in the state where [00:14:33] he is right now, but there have been so much talk, so much conversation, what [00:14:37] i just want is what is best for the game, the game that we love, the game that many of us [00:14:40] spell in love with, we don't want to see it go uh to the goters, [00:14:43] quite a number of things that happened at the at the world cup, the falari issue in [00:14:47] itself alone was i think massive, then the next thing we are [00:14:50] seeing [00:14:52] enterprise has gone to [00:14:56] call as New York and said we want, we want to see documents, [00:15:00] let release it so that we exactly what transfer, okay [00:15:04] uh uh it's been football and other talks and then of course uh the Tyson [00:15:08] Fury versus AJ uh Anthony Joshua game will take place [00:15:12] at the principality stadium right there in kadif and I tell [00:15:16] you the moment it was announced under one hour [00:15:19] under one hour that is coming up december december 11 under one [00:15:23] hour the ticket. we sold out, sold as in [00:15:27] sold out, mean we're talking about ticket from 88 pounds [00:15:31] 50 pence to 100 and [00:15:35] uh uh to 13, yeah 13, Yes, and and and and they [00:15:39] jumped on resale website uh from 425 [00:15:42] pounds to 73, resell see [00:15:46] you, I was actually I was see Ken, I [00:15:50] followed all of this drama closely, I really hope Jimmy comes in here [00:15:54] today, I really want to hear what he has to say about all of this, I've followed his drama [00:15:57] closely, I've seen the road at the hand, the Tiko [00:16:01] group and I've seen what they've all [00:16:04] done, at the end said Joshua thunder additional [00:16:08] 10 million, yes, because he wanted that fight to hold in [00:16:11] Britain, he wanted, he wanted, he wanted it happen, you [00:16:14] know, it's a little bit the battle of Britain, something that everybody wanted to see, you [00:16:18] feel the posts the people, I went under the instagram pages of [00:16:22] both fighters and you need to see the comments, bring it home, [00:16:26] let's bring it home, you doesn't have to go to las vergas, doesn't have to go to Saudi Arabia, the two of [00:16:30] you British boxers, you currently nobody is holding any b right [00:16:34] now, come home and fight, let us determine this thing, [00:16:45] he wanted it for the British fans because if he had agreed to [00:16:49] the initial terms that they are put on the table that fight would have not held in [00:16:52] britain is like there's been compromises on both sides [00:16:56] eventually when it gets to level level fight like [00:17:00] this obviously they have to be compromises but this is the fight that is probably about 10 years over [00:17:04] due if we are being honest [00:17:07] and b it has oversold, that's the thing, classic will [00:17:11] always be classic nobody will think none them, they are not holding any belts, but [00:17:15] here they are, and then that that [00:17:18] fight if it hold as we are saying here, the the gross should [00:17:22] be about the fourth richest fight in history, ken it's Anthony [00:17:25] Joshua and Tyson Theory we are talking about, it was see regardless of what [00:17:29] anybody wants to say oh they are way pass their prime, oh this fight is [00:17:33] over you, this and that, they are still two the biggest names. [00:21:50] let us let us have your honest assessment the state of [00:21:54] basketball in Nigeria [00:21:56] presently, state of basketballs [00:22:00] in [00:22:00] the interiors every single one want the basketball to be best, [00:22:04] to be better, not even better, just want it to be the best because we know we have [00:22:08] the talent, we know for the past couple of years the Nigerian basketball is have [00:22:12] not been way supposed to be, we're looking like diamond in the [00:22:15] sky with [00:22:17] the with the nation with the national team, but the local league and the where [00:22:21] the things supposed to be matter most and we're kind of [00:22:24] struggling, so we want the basketball to be better, i was a [00:22:28] product the home grown talent, i benefited from [00:22:31] these, i want the best to go come to nigerian basketball because i [00:22:35] know we have lot more and better [00:22:38] olumide, there and i want to see smile on their [00:22:42] faces, i want to contribute to the ecosystem and give mean [00:22:46] opportunity to these young ones, but nigerian basketball right now look at [00:22:50] locally is still definitely not right there and I [00:22:53] believe we should be there, we can be there for sure. [00:22:57] Okay, I wanted to continue on this trend uh, but I i just want to take [00:23:01] you one step back, uh, you've been you've been involved in how many [00:23:05] years now in trying to on it the hidden talents of [00:23:08] Nigerian basketball uh uh, what, what, [00:23:12] what is, what is it all about, 25, 26 years or so, I'm not too [00:23:16] sure, uh, 26 years, I mean, you're close by say [00:23:20] 25 [00:23:20] but we 26 actually, i can call it [00:23:24] 27 26 youth foundation was starts was [00:23:28] established in 2000 and having this uh have a basketball [00:23:32] cam future start different basketball program on the [00:23:36] court the court i h the team i did a lot of educational [00:23:39] program lot of empowerment and i've been doing this for the last [00:23:43] 26 years and i have over 45 thousand [00:23:47] kids that pass through this foundation - this foundation establish they [00:23:50] already have NBA NBA players, they have a [00:23:54] college champion, they have maybe celebrities [00:23:58] like caffe who participated in the camp, caffee actually got a [00:24:01] scholarship from this eliminated basketball camp, we talk about [00:24:05] victor, we're talking about CDQ, we're talking about Captain Mohammed [00:24:09] who is pilot right now, so we have many them with this [00:24:13] foundation for the last 26 years, not only in Nigeria, we have gone [00:24:17] outside Nigeria, we've been in Ethiopia, we've been in Liberia. here we've been in [00:24:20] Angola, we've been in Gabon, Mali, Senegal, South [00:24:24] Africa, uh, just been all over and given opportunity [00:24:28] to the young ones with this foundation and also [00:24:32] basketball team, oops and read basketball club, education and [00:24:35] basketball, send all these young boys and get to school, let them know there's always [00:24:39] life after basketball empowerment, read to [00:24:43] succeed another program, so lot of activities that this uh [00:24:46] foundation has been doing for the last 26 years, I mean "I mean [00:24:50] Charles Bassy was one of those one that also ben play with the uh [00:24:54] it's playing right now in the NBA so and we have lot of chances of [00:24:58] talent that this foundation has developed and continue [00:25:02] to continue to develop. Okay, I'm just [00:25:06] doing a little [00:25:06] bit of calculation, that means uh you started this thing where you are 28, 29, still [00:25:09] in your 20s uh, [00:25:11] you just you just 45, no [00:25:14] I and I started, I i started this as team, I [00:25:18] started this when I was, I mean..." mean not only this one, also [00:25:21] probably [00:25:23] mean serving is something that i really love to give and just like when nobody want to do it, i [00:25:27] love to do what nobody wants doesn't want to do when you were 19 buse 19 [00:25:31] plus 26 is 45 when you were 19 as teenager you started as [00:25:35] teenager if i get my mus right as teenager yes [00:25:38] of course of course yes you're right so just as well i [00:25:42] just continue to serve the nation mean just like tell you for in [00:25:46] 2001 2003 when i was in the NBA I [00:25:50] supposed to play with the national team um [00:25:52] that they couldn't pay for my insurance policy and I have to pay over $100,00 [00:25:56] for my insurance policy because my nationality couldn't play, they said I [00:26:00] couldn't travel in the... only first class, they bought me economy class [00:26:04] ticket, i use my money to buy for business class ticket, mean [00:26:08] just uh, mean give glory to god [00:26:10] we what we did in 2012, coach coach thanks to coach who [00:26:14] put all this together in 2012, 2011 when there was no money for the [00:26:18] mbbf there was no money at all, mean my personal credit cards was [00:26:22] used to purchase ticket to do everything put his own money down [00:26:26] as well and on the way to the olympics was personal funding on [00:26:30] 2015 personal funding [00:26:31] i could... gorically tells you at least for the past at least i have [00:26:35] over $40000 for my own personal money with an angelan national team [00:26:39] i never come out and make any trade any and i have a couple of [00:26:43] teammate that can do that and you can see right here just you can [00:26:46] see yeah this is a this is a [00:26:50] broken finger from south africa to to abuja i was crying [00:26:54] i was neglected i have a 17 surgery so never [00:26:58] stop playing so my commitment to the national team to Nigeria never been [00:27:02] out the same thing right here and after that have metal couple [00:27:06] broking and i still i still have meter in those those aims that i just [00:27:10] showed you and i still i had opportunity to change [00:27:13] nationality but never change nationality because i [00:27:17] bleed green white green for life i want to tell the kids do as [00:27:21] do not do as i say not do as i say all [00:27:24] right [00:27:26] i have about my colleague catalan he also has one or two questions for you but [00:27:29] let me just ask this whether he will [00:27:31] not ask is to join. uh, you've been you've been part of some the [00:27:35] previous boards, I don't, I don't know your level of [00:27:38] involvement, what, what, [00:27:41] what is, what is it that, what has been your contribution during that period, where you [00:27:45] inhibited, where you stopped from for doing this changes that you want to [00:27:48] bring in into Nigerian basketball, that is my question, and the [00:27:52] Catalan also has a question to ask you so that you can answer both together, [00:27:56] yes, theop was [00:27:58] here, um, you have literally have a car lot of [00:28:02] basketballers that I know currently would dream only dream of having [00:28:06] we understand what uh about the basketball landscape in Nigeria [00:28:10] currently like I was at your press conference where you actually [00:28:13] declared your interest to run and you talked about how you intend to [00:28:17] unite basketball at the grassroot level we [00:28:21] know we und we know what is going on nagerian basketball at the moment [00:28:25] my question to you is how do you intend to [00:28:29] do all of this and you said some these things that day but for people i probably didn't [00:28:33] watch you on the day, i watching you today, how do you intend to unite the basketball [00:28:37] family, the faction, the faction in basketball, how do you intend to unite the basketball [00:28:40] family, bringing the players and the coaches and the referees everybody at the grass [00:28:44] level, uniting them and making sure that we chart a positive [00:28:47] course, you know for nigerian [00:28:49] basketball, thank you very much and thanks [00:28:53] for your presence at doing the it is, how do i want to do is they [00:28:57] said that who knows the root the problem so [00:29:00] knows the solution to the [00:29:02] problem, so we know that we're now being together, united, [00:29:06] so we have to start from every single one, we have to start from the grassroot, we have to [00:29:10] start from the we have to start from the states, we have to start from the teams, [00:29:14] from division two, division one to [00:29:16] then to the to the teams owners, team owner to the state, state to - [00:29:20] there to the national level, and we also have to bring couple of our [00:29:23] our retired players, the veterans, you have to bring them [00:29:27] along, and you have to the say the losers dwell about the past and winner bew [00:29:31] the future. but as a winner you have to use the past in guiding and [00:29:35] building the future, so what happened to use the couple of experiences [00:29:39] a gat lot of people who have been through [00:29:43] these with [00:29:43] the knowledge w of experience, like i said where i can use case [00:29:47] study from 1990, so we can use 1990 all the way to [00:29:51] of where we are now, so now you bring people from 1997 where [00:29:55] Nigerian where i was a part the team as a young player when we win with the [00:29:59] chatter flight from nigeria where we win with about [00:30:02] 200 supporters club so what happened there how did you do it what [00:30:06] happened in 1998 where we went with greece we had about [00:30:10] 150 supporters all taking care of we went with the chat flight [00:30:14] 99 Angola I was also part the team [00:30:16] we went with the charter flight 2001 2002 get all this [00:30:20] knowledges 2003 sorry 1995 [00:30:24] 96 we had the seven of league our league was vibrant that [00:30:28] produced benjamin easy or [00:30:31] 1991 [00:30:35] all those guys now you went to one that 2002 th [00:30:39] f that produced [00:30:40] a gk got drafted from nigeria straight to the nba with a vm [00:30:43] over now went to the dstb league so you have to see [00:30:47] that you must understand all this problem what happened what would [00:30:51] we do all to the question league so what happened on all those things where we are [00:30:55] what made us where we are now we used to play home and the way back in the days go [00:30:59] on the road to
