[00:00:00] and remove monopoly, yeah, if you check now, we are [00:00:03] still talking about monopoly a little bit, because dangote [00:00:07] is the only false, that is why the price is still there, so what [00:00:11] we are saying, remember [00:00:14] that, when they wanted to [00:00:18] go, they privatized the refineries to this [00:00:21] dangote, if dangote had taken those [00:00:25] refineries, six months, they would have said walking, he built new [00:00:29] one, from scratch that is ranked as one [00:00:33] of the highest in the world for about the years, three [00:00:36] years, so you can imagine already existing one, and by [00:00:40] that time they were not yet obsolid, yeah, so what [00:00:44] article will do from the [00:00:47] of one, and he's not going to be like tin, [00:00:50] immediately articu is elected, he has about three, four [00:00:53] months before [00:00:56] of bewarning, he will continue his consultation, of all the [00:01:00] oil experts and the oil [00:01:04] you know individuals who are knowledgeable in [00:01:08] it, [00:01:09] of before he brought out this his plan, he [00:01:12] of consulted, he said it from the [00:01:15] of one, oil experts [00:01:17] of article, he's not the tiru that will come on the first day of [00:01:21] inauguration before even consulting his [00:01:24] of wife, first subsidy is gone, no it's [00:01:27] of they just saw him in, everybody saw him with the wife, now as president he [00:01:31] did not, [00:01:33] they [00:01:35] just is gone, no meeting with the wife, not in the other room, [00:01:39] the first [00:01:40] dayration to [00:01:44] is him, the closest so [00:01:47] of person not even [00:01:48] of consult, now i'm saying they just [00:01:50] saw him as president, yes okay, now [00:01:54] immediately wins, he has the f [00:01:56] months, he will [00:01:59] me use it again to consults the oil experts [00:02:01] and the persons to know how [00:02:05] from day one the refineries will start [00:02:08] operating so of course article they are privatized before [00:02:12] if that is what it will need they will privatize they did [00:02:16] it before no you are saying the article we meet with the oil and [00:02:19] oil i was said he would continue [00:02:23] consulting with oils and [00:02:27] because this government no he's doing it now I said you will [00:02:30] continue, immediately your president elect [00:02:33] in okay, is [00:02:34] a different, oh that's what I mean, oh okay, you now know you're going to [00:02:37] assume office, so you continue the conv [00:02:40] of okay, now you start reducing it to [00:02:44] of decisions and [00:02:45] of orders, now it is campaign programs and [00:02:48] manifesto, but immediately you [00:02:50] of elected, you have about three four months, yeah, tinubu used it to stay in [00:02:54] France all through, it is that all through, you're [00:02:58] already now. article will now make [00:03:02] decision as to the refineries [00:03:05] whether to privatize or [00:03:09] of commercialize or this, but the revinist must start [00:03:11] working immediately, you know what them [00:03:15] did, they went after [00:03:19] you, converting the billions in order to make the excuse, [00:03:23] they went and brought file foil in the [00:03:26] refineries and put [00:03:27] of light in it and smoke came out. and they now deceive [00:03:31] Nigeria, the advice are now technically okay, no, [00:03:35] but new [00:03:36] of people, if you remember uh, let [00:03:39] me tell you what they said, they said to that the thing was in process, let [00:03:41] me tell you what they said, yeah, and I'm sorry to say it, [00:03:45] they should, I don't want [00:03:46] to use certain words, they said that it is [00:03:50] working, but if [00:03:51] of you like put 1 billion [00:03:54] of dollars, what of fuher, you will be getting like 900 and something [00:03:58] million, so it is what... but it is not commensurat with [00:04:01] the cost of doing it, why? why did you [00:04:05] not make the analysis before, before [00:04:09] of going into such a venture? okay, because of our time, and i [00:04:12] think, good, so the issue here is that the [00:04:15] refineries, they are going to be either privatized or [00:04:19] commercialized, but [00:04:20] of we article punish those who were involved in subsidies [00:04:24] cam, 100%. yes, yes, okay, because [00:04:28] he hasn't said it, let [00:04:30] me tell you, okay, in, yes, [00:04:34] let me, let me concede that i have access to some, you know, [00:04:38] privilege information, and i can tell you [00:04:42] that has made it clear, and they did it [00:04:44] before, [00:04:46] a in a article's time, people started refunding [00:04:50] money, there are even someone that was [00:04:53] in refunded after they had left office, of course you know the abacher [00:04:56] story, of course you know, lot of [00:05:00] people arrested them, yeah, and they started refund, [00:05:04] some [00:05:04] of them even refunded privately, all the [00:05:08] people that mismanaged, misapplied, [00:05:11] misappropriate. Nigerian money under the [00:05:15] article presidency, once you hear article has been declared a [00:05:19] winner, respect yourself and return the money. [00:05:23] Okay, this is breaking news, just respect yourself, because [00:05:27] article we go after them, articu will collect all the [00:05:30] misappropriated money for nigerians, that I [00:05:34] will tell you, so so the the the infinity in the old and gas sector we [00:05:38] will start to will end and in all other sectors in Nigeria. [00:05:42] what is going on in Nigeria, look at the fake agencies, we're [00:05:46] making that, but so you because of our time, Ken, I want i wanted to ask [00:05:50] you uh, what the economists [00:05:53] said, because you know, I mean, I find it the [00:05:57] very curious conclusion, they said, I'm sure you have seen it, the economist of London, [00:06:01] yes, they said that yes, Nigerians dislike [00:06:05] their president, thank you, you know, but they will [00:06:09] still vote for him, may, yeah, of course. Yeah, of course [00:06:13] me, of course, yeah, so now [00:06:17] uh, so so that is curious uh conclusion, [00:06:20] but then it strengthens the perception, and I [00:06:24] think it's part the things that they also implied that look, this guy has 31 [00:06:28] governs, that's structure, I don't even think they went into that, but [00:06:32] you this is what the argument that comes from the [00:06:35] incubalo structure, we have 31 [00:06:39] governors who are on the ground, so that's [00:06:43] whatever may be the sentiments out there you know [00:06:46] which uh uh the economists subscribe to that Nigerians don't like [00:06:50] the president of course they have pushback that [00:06:53] the that the opposition doesn't have the structure on the ground to [00:06:57] actually make the defeat possible how do you respond to that good last [00:07:01] question I am not sure the economist said that [00:07:04] Nigerians may vote for him that's what they [00:07:08] said no I I said I'm not sure I think what they said [00:07:12] that he may still win, yeah, yeah, it does not [00:07:16] mean that, said he may win, good, so it's [00:07:20] not, they didn't say Nigerians may still vote, because in [00:07:24] Nigeria, the even the economy know that you can win by [00:07:28] other means, apart from the votes of Nigeria, but I said I'm not [00:07:31] sure, yeah, yeah, I will confirm exactly, so so so just for clarity, [00:07:35] say Nigerians dislike their president, but may reelect [00:07:39] in anyway, that's exactly what something. that [00:07:43] now let me put it clearly any country where [00:07:47] they dislike somebody and the person gets reelected is an [00:07:51] error something is wrong somewhere [00:07:55] no some oh my god [00:07:59] something is wrong somewhere but it has happened before you know why yeah the [00:08:03] reason is that either they are saying they don't want to waste their time going [00:08:07] to vote because they know that their votes will not count or maybe [00:08:11] they think that you [00:08:21] said something, he said is only a thief or a mad man that [00:08:25] will vote for Tinubu and [00:08:28] APC, and some people are trying to raise any dust [00:08:32] about it, and you know what, he said the truth, you know [00:08:36] why, somebody must have a mental problem to [00:08:40] meet fuel at the cost of what? [00:08:46] Yeah, and now you're paying 1,500 [00:08:49] naira inexplicably pay, and you're voting for the [00:08:53] person, something is wrong, now you met Naira at [00:08:57] the cost of 450 pay dollar, and [00:09:01] you are now seeing it going to 2,000 pay dollar, it was almost [00:09:05] approaching dead, and you want to vote for the person, something is wrong [00:09:08] somewhere, then when he [00:09:11] allod. that you must be a thief, he was simply saying you must [00:09:15] be a beneficiary of such corruption to be able to afford [00:09:19] such lifestyle that will make you to say you want to vote for such a [00:09:23] person again, and so I agree with him on that [00:09:27] postulation that that you must be [00:09:31] a thief, in other words, you must be a beneficiary to such [00:09:34] corrupt money, or a mad man if you are not a mad man, because you must have [00:09:38] a mental problem for, can you imagine if I want to fill up? [00:09:42] my SUV of 100 lit of 100 [00:09:46] lit SUV for tank i would have to spend [00:09:49] 15000 nira now and I was using [00:09:52] 19,500 n before tinubu came in [00:09:56] no will I not be checked for mental [00:10:00] problem especially if the money is [00:10:02] hard hand if especially if I mean I mean in a nation [00:10:06] where the minimum wage is 7000 look at what NLC has said they [00:10:10] want to embark a strike they've given two weeks. ultimatum, [00:10:13] what are the reasons? high f price and the minimum [00:10:17] wage, because they cannot understand that the are 70,000 will [00:10:21] buy them half fuel tank, so that's why. [00:10:25] is saying something must be wrong with you and i [00:10:28] agree [00:10:30] now conclude yeah good so [00:10:33] conclusively has made it [00:10:37] clear he's going to make life affordable for nigerians [00:10:40] again is going to bring back to what it [00:10:44] was per and it is very possible [00:10:47] because we are a production nation now so [00:10:51] when you reduce the cost of producing and [00:10:55] item through provision of power, making interest [00:10:58] rates accessible, then bringing [00:11:01] security and ensuring that [00:11:05] every factor of production is cheaper, it will reduce the [00:11:09] cost of producing the barrel to $12, but how soon [00:11:13] will this happen if you guys win? i said you will start seeing, you've already [00:11:17] started seeing it now, haven't you started seeing it? is it not because has [00:11:20] insisted [00:11:22] for something will be restored that is bringing down his own? no, is the benefit, [00:11:26] the benefit has started, even before articu is elected, but you [00:11:30] talked about power and all of those things and it will take time because of [00:11:33] corruption, that's why these people are not doing it, all right, you know what article [00:11:37] advised in the issue of power, captive power, [00:11:41] even from time, it's trying to tell you sir, if you [00:11:45] want to base it on gas alone, if you build [00:11:49] all the gas stations in the south to distribute [00:11:53] it will take you years, [00:12:03] use it to provide the power in that zone, you [00:12:07] know of hydro you know power electric, it [00:12:11] was in government for they didn't do that, and we've talked about [00:12:15] this before, it [00:12:16] was the VP, this was the advice he gave, was not [00:12:19] accepted as president, he will implement it, Nigerians [00:12:22] will have regular electricity at. affordable price, [00:12:26] not aatibus price, there will be no band a, band b, [00:12:30] band c, and then there will [00:12:33] be no ban this morning, no, no, no, no, no, no, so I think is going to bring [00:12:37] down the cost of producing crude oil [00:12:41] to the word average of $12 per barrel, and [00:12:45] then supply it to the nigerian refiner, [00:12:48] refineries, they will now produce [00:12:51] affordable refined food to Nigerians, it will... come [00:12:55] down to less than 300 nine okay, thank you so much uh [00:12:59] uh mr kent for for for the insight and the promises that you've [00:13:03] made on behalf of our day you know he will [00:13:06] go after the city sc that nobody has done in 20 [00:13:10] years told me that personally that is very [00:13:13] important i am one calling for that and [00:13:16] find that encouraging i made note of it thank you so much for uh [00:13:20] for your uh conversations that are always very frank and interesting and thank you for [00:13:24] coming to you sources, thank you very much, and uh, well done for the tough job that you guys are [00:13:28] doing out there, [00:13:29] you know, uh, democracy is uh, is exciting, and this is [00:13:33] why we have democracy, thank [00:13:43] sources, today as we continue in the season [00:13:46] of uh the 66th independence of [00:13:50] Nigeria in this month of October, I have guest [00:13:54] who is going to be talking about uh the issues around [00:13:58] independence, what we should be focused on, and of course some the [00:14:01] things that happened during the United Nations General Assembly, which just [00:14:05] passed, so I like to welcome back into the [00:14:08] studio uh, Mr. Emmanuel Ogebe, [00:14:11] US-based Nigerian lawyer, human rights [00:14:14] advocate and the winner the Nigerian [00:14:17] diaspora merit award, [00:14:21] happy independence to Nigeria, well, I only wish you happy. new month [00:14:25] because [00:14:26] i can't see how the independence has benefited nigerians [00:14:30] seriously this in the [00:14:32] county [00:14:34] the si but let's start there emmanuel what's your own uh [00:14:37] take as nigeria turns 66 well i have to [00:14:41] say i think the best thing the administration [00:14:45] did with this independence was not to [00:14:48] celebrate it with a parade buse it would have [00:14:51] been a parade of failure a parade of non [00:14:55] sense uh, Nigerians cannot look at themselves [00:14:58] today and say that they are better of now than in [00:15:02] 1960 when they received independence. In [00:15:05] fact, for we northern Christians, we're more [00:15:08] marginalized now than when the British [00:15:12] handed over power, why? because you will find that at [00:15:16] that time the British gave presidency to a southern [00:15:20] Christian and they gave prime ministership to another [00:15:24] Muslim so... it was even balanced then, so the current [00:15:28] dispensation is worse than when the British handed [00:15:32] over to us politically, and it is worse than when the British handed over [00:15:35] to us, economy. [00:15:39] That's - that's you know you just went [00:15:42] for the joga right away there, you see there's not [00:15:46] much to argue about it, the pain on the faces [00:15:50] of Nigerians is so discennible, [00:15:53] nobody is genuinely happy in this country, whether they are Christians or Muslims, [00:15:57] whether they are Christians or Muslim, in fact the Muslim Muslim ticket has ended [00:16:01] up hurting them more, which should [00:16:05] tell us as nation that really... should not be the soul determinant [00:16:09] factor, but competency and deliverables [00:16:13] for the citizens. Unfortunately, we have a country [00:16:16] where some governors are deemed as performers simply because [00:16:20] they built a musk in each local government, it doesn't care, it doesn't matter if they steal the [00:16:24] whole money the state and marry foreigner in [00:16:27] yemen, so long as it build [00:16:29] a mosk, democracy, dividend has been delivered in some [00:16:33] other sections the country, they want to see rodes. [00:16:37] paved, they want to see, you know, enabling environment for [00:16:41] business, education, healthcare, and all of that, [00:16:44] so different sections the country do not have the same [00:16:48] definition of what development is, there are some people in [00:16:52] this country that the only time they will be [00:16:55] happy is if it is their religion that is [00:16:58] dominant, if they have that, you don't care about anything [00:17:02] else, that's why you have a character like shake jangier [00:17:06] coming out and saying, that uh, if christians don't like it, they [00:17:10] should leave the country, that Muslim Muslim ticket has come to [00:17:13] stay, it is means of domination, and he's been rly criticized [00:17:17] for that, and and and the sath thing is that evidence has come to [00:17:21] light that he received a massive pay off from the [00:17:24] administration, so essentially these are the kinds of things that [00:17:28] we have, men who are supposed to speak truth to [00:17:32] power are being purchased by those in power, when you say that evidence has [00:17:36] come of is still [00:17:37] if an alligation. because [00:17:38] you know I don't know about [00:17:39] there was a publication that has not been reported or challenged by [00:17:43] him, I don't [00:17:44] it know was prion times or gazzett that he received [00:17:48] 600 million, and if you look at the history of [00:17:51] Nigeria, the politicians have been [00:17:54] buying prayers and prayer warriors and prayer [00:17:58] contractors, oh my god, [00:18:00] it is, it's a proven fact, yeah, well you, so so let's look at what the [00:18:04] president said during his uh independence days. speak, he said [00:18:08] that when they came in, when he came in in 2023, Nigeria was [00:18:12] like a cancer patient, and that past [00:18:15] leaders, [00:18:16] you know, past leaders have been treating it with - with painkillers such as [00:18:20] morphine, you know, are leaving the tough [00:18:23] decisions of doing uh, a surgical [00:18:27] operation to take away the cancer, and he said that cancer has [00:18:31] been spreading, so he says he is coming in to do this cancer [00:18:34] surgery, and that that is why things are tough. [00:18:37] "unfortunately, the presidency of Nigeria has become [00:18:41] a health insurance package for people who [00:18:45] are ill to take care themselves. We saw that with Buhari, [00:18:49] he came and he used Nigeria to sponsor his health treatments [00:18:52] abroad. This is where this president is continuing from. He cannot tell [00:18:56] us that the president that he incubated and who he [00:19:00] put in power for eight years was a [00:19:03] failure when he himself said that he's coming to build on what. [00:19:07] that man did, if you're coming to build a what a [00:19:11] destroyer did, that means you're a co-destroyer. see, let me be very [00:19:15] clear with you, okay? when i come to Nigeria [00:19:19] now, i feel personally [00:19:23] safer than when i used to come under Bukhari, because [00:19:27] Buhari was vindictive, vicious person, at [00:19:30] least you had your your your freedom, you have more [00:19:34] confidence, i have more confidence, and you [00:19:37] have to... hide less exactly, receive less [00:19:40] warnings from people about being targeted by the government now, [00:19:44] so you give you give it this president, give him that credit, but [00:19:48] here's the issue that a problem i have, all right, you [00:19:52] remove subsidy, all right, you you deregulated [00:19:56] theena, but some the actions you take are inconsistent [00:20:00] with the pains and sacrifices nigerians are making, you bought yourself a [00:20:04] presidential jet that was never appropriated by the... national [00:20:07] assembly when Buhari bought place without [00:20:11] appropriation, it was one place for [00:20:15] to fight terrorism, not for his personal [00:20:18] angandisement. The other thing that has happened, which is [00:20:22] stunning to me, I noticed recently report that [00:20:25] Nigeria forgave NMPC [00:20:28] a debt of $1 billion dollars. Is NMPs supposed to [00:20:32] be taking care of Nigerians or are Nigerians supposed to be taking care of NMPs? [00:20:36] How is that possible? Now to make matters [00:20:40] was, Mr. President gave contracts to his [00:20:43] friend again without [00:20:45] tender, one road from Lagos to Calaba. [00:20:50] dollars 12 a [00:20:51] billion second road from badagri to [00:20:54] keby 12 billion 24 [00:20:57] billion yes to one [00:21:01] man his friend in Paris 24 [00:21:04] billion the loan that he took from [00:21:08] the UK in march for the ports 1 billion [00:21:12] 25 billion dollars to one man but just to be very [00:21:15] exact I don't think the whole 25 billion has been [00:21:19] sourced. already, but I see your point, I'm just, I'm just [00:21:23] being uh, you feeky with the with the figures, your point is well [00:21:27] made, in fact it is even worse, [00:21:30] when Mr. President was away from [00:21:34] the United Nations General Assembly, while working in [00:21:38] Paris, [00:21:39] there was an announcement that additional 7 billion dollars [00:21:43] as we given to [00:21:44] Shaguri, when you add [00:21:48] the 25 billion to 7 billion. that is 33 [00:21:52] billion to one individual [00:21:56] this last 7 billion of which you speak that i'm [00:21:58] not aware of what's that for it's again for port development in [00:22:02] og state okay well all these are the [00:22:06] the are plans most them are plans not that the i see your pointman [00:22:10] but i'm just trying to make it so that these moneies have not come in most [00:22:14] them but your argument is made no point the fact the matter [00:22:18] is yeah yeah we are obligated by the sovereign [00:22:21] okay, it's a sovereign obligation, yeah, that means that we're bound [00:22:25] to pay, that means we're indepted for the future, no, it means [00:22:29] that at least they are telling us that that is the commitment that is been made [00:22:33] and we we expect that the money are coming, i'm just saying that is [00:22:38] some not if those moneies have them come, are mous [00:22:40] that the next president you know after him, maybe for eight [00:22:44] years can reverse, you know, i'm just [00:22:47] saying, well let tell you right now as we [00:22:51] speak, the national assembly has approved multiple tranches of [00:22:55] money for them, so the payments are already been [00:22:58] made, they what was signed in UK with [00:23:02] the UK with the Nigerian government, [00:23:03] that was about 700 million pounds, which is over [00:23:07] billion dollars, again it was back by sovereign [00:23:10] guarantee, so we're hooked in whether we like it or not, [00:23:14] we're going to import the steel from UK, we're going to [00:23:18] hire UK companies to do it, and shagori is the implementer on this [00:23:22] side, so you can see that one [00:23:25] individual received contracts [00:23:29] exceeding more than 12% the entire GDP of [00:23:32] Nigeria, over 12% the entire GDP the country went [00:23:36] to one individual, how can you defend that? so [00:23:39] these are some the reasons why you want to give him credit for some things, but [00:23:43] you look at some other things and say this makes no sense, assure you, if [00:23:47] Mr. President has spent 25. billion dollars on [00:23:51] electricity and i know that i will have 24 hours [00:23:55] of electricity, i don't care if it gives it [00:23:58] to, but this is not a [00:24:02] national priority, it is not number one, that road is not [00:24:06] number one, it is not number two, [00:24:07] it is not number three, why? because electricity is a [00:24:11] priority, security is a prior, even [00:24:14] healthcare, even healthcare is a priority, did you see the video the [00:24:18] former uh? said somebody that we all respect because headed [00:24:22] over power for which credit we must give him, but there he goes [00:24:26] uh, letting himself be used as an [00:24:29] advertiser of an Indian hospital, yes [00:24:33] i mean, did you think they took advantage of him? well, you [00:24:36] see, it would be a shame if we have a [00:24:39] leader who can be taken advantage of in this manner, but the [00:24:43] fact the matter is when i was in prison in the [00:24:47] villa 30 years ago, i was and when i [00:24:51] passed out the my torturers took me to [00:24:55] - clinic where i was treated so i was [00:24:59] shocked to hear a few years ago when he was in power that the [00:25:03] first lady was complaining that even panadol did not have even [00:25:06] under abacha who stole over 5 billion [00:25:10] dollars they are so clinic was operational i was [00:25:14] treated as a nigerian citizen and we [00:25:17] are telling me today that we have to send the head of [00:25:21] states abroad for for new replacement, god have [00:25:24] mercy. uh anyway, so so so you you don't [00:25:28] see lot of uh good things to talk about, that is with [00:25:32] regard to the independence, but let us even look [00:25:35] at the UN general assembly, okay, which is another very [00:25:39] painful experience for me. i was there in new york last week as as [00:25:42] you also were, yes, and for the [00:25:45] third time uh, [00:25:48] vice [00:25:49] president uh, Setima represented Nigeria now setting the record as [00:25:53] the only Nigerian vice president yes to attend three years in [00:25:57] Euro absolutely now what is painful for me is [00:26:00] this the you and general assembly is the [00:26:04] only international obligation that every [00:26:07] country is expected to abide by in [00:26:11] the world, there are no two in the [00:26:14] responsibilities of a president, the only one is to attend the [00:26:18] UN general assembly, represent your country and be a voice for your country. what do you [00:26:22] mean by that? well, it is [00:26:26] designated that in July in September of every year, there [00:26:30] will be there will be a general assembly. and or there will [00:26:34] be plenary session where all the heads of state will show up to [00:26:37] address, that is the minimum duty required to [00:26:41] fulfill, when you say minimum, because there's no nothing [00:26:45] else, you are not required to attend anything other than the annual [00:26:49] general meeting, and Mr. President [00:26:52] has failed to show up three out of four times, that is a [00:26:56] 75% failure reads, now here's [00:27:00] here's what is happening when send your number two [00:27:03] player, he does not carry the weight that number one carries, you [00:27:07] know how [00:27:08] it is, the kinds of meetings that people, you a president we have, vice [00:27:12] president we not have, because most people know his spare tire, [00:27:16] he's reading somebody's address, he doesn't have the ability to follow [00:27:19] through, thank you for coming and thank you [00:30:43] Hello, nice to have you join us on Newstack, reaching from channels televisions, global headquarters [00:30:47] in Lagos Nige, I'm Dominic Iwiwa, these are the stories and reports we're tracking [00:30:51] at the moment, now president Paul Atnubu has welcomed the World [00:30:55] Banks October 2026 Niger development update titled Beyond the [00:30:59] Feder.
