[00:02:04] in grooming gang offenders could be freed early from prison under the
[00:02:07] government's release scheme. The prime minister has asked the ministry of justice to

[00:09:28] Britain, if you had to sum up or just pick your main
[00:09:32] thing, what do you love about this nation? I love the
[00:09:35] community, uh, pubs, fish and chips, I
[00:09:38] just love old people, um,
[00:09:42] going out and about and everyone getting on and I feel we're
[00:09:46] losing that so I don't want to bring that discussion down, we must
[00:09:49] protect our pubs, our heritage, our culture and go
[00:09:53] forward, there's a reason we're called Great Britain and we
[00:09:57] was renowned around the world for being strong community led
[00:10:01] people, passionate people, and I just don't want to lose that, so
[00:10:05] you know I want to celebrate being British, but I want to protect it as
[00:10:08] well, um, if Andy Bernam was sitting here raising. glass
[00:10:12] with us, he would say to you, I'm doing lot to try and help pubs
[00:10:16] adam, he would say, pub is at the heart of
[00:10:20] of him as well, he would say that he feels like he's making positive steps when it comes to
[00:10:24] pubs. No, so you cannot take a load away
[00:10:28] from pubs and then give a little bit back and expect publicans like me to
[00:10:32] stand up and cheer you on, that doesn't, it doesn't work like that. Rachel
[00:10:35] Reeves first two budgets cost my small back street pub
[00:10:39] 30,000 pound year extra in costs, I'm just a
[00:10:42] small little pub. Now when they want to give us back maybe two or 3,00
[00:10:46] pound year for a discount in business rates, that's an insol,
[00:10:50] especially when my business rates have gone up 50% this year
[00:10:54] so... they can't go up 50% and then you give me 20% off and expect me
[00:10:58] to shake your hand and you know uh blow smoke up your
[00:11:01] backside, that's not going to happen, it's a PR move, it
[00:11:05] basically saves the average pub about fiver a day,
[00:11:09] so the headlines might be great, michelle, but they know they're
[00:11:12] calculated that it's going to go down, they can claim the saving pubs
[00:11:16] when they're really not. Aron bastani, what do you love about this
[00:11:20] great nation? so much uh, the history, the literature,
[00:11:23] the people, what Adam said about people? people's friendliness, second to none, the makerfield by
[00:11:27] election recently, if you got a wigan that part of greater
[00:11:30] Manchester, everybody had smile on their face, everybody was
[00:11:34] willing to talk, really extraordinary, but I think above
[00:11:37] all for anyway, as somebody who lives in the south is the countryside, the
[00:11:41] new forest, the rivers, the river Hey, the welsh
[00:11:45] borders, honestly a sunny
[00:11:47] day around the river Hay and around the southwest
[00:11:51] of England, heaven on earth, I think you is, really
[00:11:55] interesting point actually, because we do have beautiful,
[00:11:59] beautiful uh areas in this country uh, and it is just
[00:12:03] the great outdoors. i think being out and about obviously you got to take
[00:12:07] the uh British weather sometimes with a pinch of salt, but that is sometimes the fun of it
[00:12:11] as well. uh, i'm a camper, i absolutely love camping, and one the
[00:12:15] things that i absolutely love about Britain is being a
[00:12:19] tent, being a field where you can't really hear
[00:12:22] anything other than birds. you're always working up,
[00:12:26] there's always one camper,
[00:12:27] always anyone that goes camping, you know what I mean, maybe you are that individual, there's always one person
[00:12:31] that wakes up, stupidly early in the morning, and that's when the whole campsite
[00:12:35] wakes up, and then there's always someone at the other side the fence uh who is up
[00:12:39] very, very late at night and that's the time that the rest the campers go to sleep, but
[00:12:43] that's when I kind of sit there and I think what a beautiful country, peaceful,
[00:12:47] quiet, calm, safe, and I saw
[00:12:50] um story in the press the other day actually about play
[00:12:54] streets. "and what they were triling was closing a
[00:12:58] street and letting children just play in the street and I saw it's really
[00:13:02] divided opinion, but actually that sense that children can be out on
[00:13:06] the street, you can be playing, I mean let's be honest, some streets are
[00:13:10] not as safe as others, let's not beat around the bush uh on that
[00:13:13] one, but it is a good place to raise children, I mean we've
[00:13:17] all got children actually, yeah I I see some it on Instagram the
[00:13:21] other day which was like, would you swap your life to go back to..."
[00:13:25] how it was in the 80s and 90s and that is a bit of romantic dream and I
[00:13:29] think maybe lot of people watching this right now look back to that sort
[00:13:33] of era with like romantical sort of uh view
[00:13:37] the world because I remember going out not telling my mom that
[00:13:41] where I was going on my BMX I would go for miles and I would
[00:13:45] be safe I would be around the estate where I grew up and there was
[00:13:49] mobile phones to check in uh we lived in the pub at the
[00:13:52] time and I look back at that time and think... 'we was all right, there wasn't that
[00:13:56] many threats to us, our kids safety at the time,
[00:14:00] and look, I do look back and think, I wish we could take
[00:14:03] certain parts from our past, not too distant past as
[00:14:07] well, so maybe the 90s and sort of bring that back, so kids are
[00:14:11] allowed to play on the streets and be safe uh, not
[00:14:15] stuck on their their devices all the time, but I just don't think
[00:14:18] unfortunately the way the world's gone, we're going to see that again, so I I almost see
[00:14:22] now that we lived in a probably the last
[00:14:26] great time
[00:14:27] you know as kids, us, I think we're
[00:14:28] all roughly the same age uh, so I do get a little bit sort of depressed
[00:14:32] sometimes when I look at some these retro accounts on Instagram
[00:14:36] and remember what it was like for us and now what it is for kids, but I
[00:14:40] think
[00:14:41] you know if you're a community just look after the kids, I don't think people are
[00:14:45] looking out for each other anymore, so divided, um,
[00:14:49] so look, yeah, that's what I would like to see, communities coming back,
[00:14:53] kids playing on the streets, one of my viewers
[00:14:56] JC, he says one the things that I love about was
[00:15:00] Brits, the best sense of humor uh, he says, I
[00:15:03] think I agree with that, I like sarcasm, I think that
[00:15:07] sarcasm, some people will say it's the lowest form of wit, I think
[00:15:11] sarcasm, dry humor, all that kind of stuff, I think it's
[00:15:14] hilarious, yeah, that's a nice British trade, I think that's true, I had a
[00:15:17] colleague the other day, they've had blurry vision, it turned out there's nothing particularly
[00:15:21] wrong with them, and they said I'm going for an MRI scan, and another colleague said 'I hope they find a
[00:15:25] brain, there's not many places where that kind of intuitive wit, come
[00:15:29] comes to fall, nobody's getting offended, generally speaking, uh, I think
[00:15:33] you're right, that's a really nice piece of culture, of course he'.
[00:15:37] did they find a media? they did just about just about, it took a while
[00:15:41] uh, caroline, she's got in touch and said, i absolutely agree, i love the
[00:15:45] british uh countryside, she loves the country layoners, all the quint
[00:15:49] villages, she says, uh, fish and chips,
[00:15:53] maypol
[00:15:53] day, she says, uh, our beaches and our curse lines, and she also
[00:15:56] loves camping in our tent, alfie
[00:16:00] says, what makes this uh nation so great, our
[00:16:04] history, he says, is fascinating, sure we flawed
[00:16:07] messy, but we're absolutely fascinating and of course uh,
[00:16:11] remarkably well documented, he says, uh,

[00:16:19] to jb, hey, Pauline, um, whenever my son is five, whenever
[00:16:23] he sees the Union Jack flag, always, without fail always,

[00:16:34] and all the rest of it, and we proudly celebrate our nation. flag proudly

[00:16:42] take that, I take that with the sense of pride, yeah I do, I think it's really nice

[00:16:50] you know what we need to do in this nation, we need to talk ourselves up a little bit

[00:16:57] agree with that, over in America of course across the pond, they are what many people

[00:22:27] what i've noticed is in America when people are successful and they've done well,
[00:22:31] they get congratulated for it. there's very rarely
[00:22:35] resentment or jealousy or animosity, and i feel like in this country
[00:22:38] sometimes if people do do well, there can be a sense of, well why
[00:22:42] haven't i got that, why i the victim of this culture, why have you got that? and i
[00:22:46] think that's
[00:22:47] what i notice a little bit.
[00:22:49] do think, Obviously Trump is very divisive in America and so you
[00:22:53] could have room of democrats that will tell you it has never been worse and
[00:22:57] actually the research into this concept of American dream tells you
[00:23:01] in poling terms people do feel quite despondent
[00:23:05] in America at the moment, but the reasoning appears to be because the
[00:23:09] media is so down on Trump as it is here as well, it's
[00:23:12] even worse in America, you very rarely will hear anybody say anything good about the
[00:23:16] economy or employment or how well businesses is... doing
[00:23:20] and
[00:23:20] it is doing well, their economy is doing well, their growth is going to dwarf ours in the
[00:23:24] next year or so, um, and I think the idea that you
[00:23:28] can make make yourself more successful is, it still
[00:23:32] exists in
[00:23:33] in America, it's harder to find here, I
[00:23:36] think uh, well, I've got not one but two successful entrepreneurs by
[00:23:40] my side, um, do you feel like we need to do more to encourage entrepreneurial
[00:23:44] thinking, celebrate success, we do, there used to be a time maybe 10 years
[00:23:48] ago that I was getting offered businesses all the time. and I wanted to invest money, I
[00:23:51] wanted to run maybe more pubs, more bars, whatever, I wanted to
[00:23:55] aspire to be better for myself and for my family,
[00:23:59] but now especially with this government that we've got, we're taxed
[00:24:02] into oblivion, there's so many loop holes you have to go through
[00:24:06] uh to open businesses, it just feels like our government are attacking
[00:24:10] anyone that wants to do better for themselves, wants to hire people,
[00:24:14] we see it with Rachel Reeves, taxing us for daring to hire
[00:24:18] and give people jobs, is that we should be rewarded
[00:24:22] for giving people jobs, not taxed, and I think that is
[00:24:26] bringing this country down, and certainly the economic figures show that,
[00:24:30] we need to be proud in people that want to employ people in this
[00:24:33] country, and as Bev said, sometimes people look at us and
[00:24:37] think, oh, well they've got something that I want, I don't want them to have it, and that's
[00:24:41] a really bad trate, the the treasury secretary in America, Scott Beson, when he stood up
[00:24:45] recently and he said, and it comes from the heart with that government, he said, I want you
[00:24:49] to keep. more of your own money, i just desperately
[00:24:53] we are trying to, and they have cut taxes, the cut taxes on tips, so everybody
[00:24:57] in hospitality industries not paying tax or any on their tips, the stuff that they've done is
[00:25:01] is very, it's the kind of stuff that we talk about when adam's on late
[00:25:05] show live and we'd say what can what what do you need as a businessman, that's
[00:25:09] what they are doing in america, so for some adam
[00:25:13] i'd say that we need much lower VAT, i think VAT should be much lower on hospitality
[00:25:17] because ultimately economists call this positive externality. It's much better for
[00:25:21] somebody to have pint a pub than have a can of lager at home, it's just better for their mental wellbeing,
[00:25:25] for their community and so on, so many positive after effects, what we don't talk about nearly
[00:25:29] enough in terms of ambition is student loss, now I know some people
[00:25:32] say they shouldn't go to university in the first place, that's a separate conversation, but it's certainly
[00:25:36] it's related, but the point is this, if you come out of university with a 21
[00:25:40] or a first and you got 40, 50, 60 grands worth of
[00:25:43] debt, you want to get on the housing ladder, you want to have kids, you might have to look
[00:25:47] after your parents, that person is going to be very... goverse, they're not going to say, you
[00:25:51] know what, I'm going to take a shot, I'm going to start a high street business or I'm going to start a pub or I'm going to
[00:25:55] start a consultancy or whatever, I'm going to play it safe,
[00:25:59] and so I want people even with somebody on the left, I want people
[00:26:01] to take more risks, but... 'when you've got that debt hanging around your neck, it's
[00:26:05] a really big problem, and I know you might say, well, few people should go to university,
[00:26:09] probably true, probably part of it, would definitely say that, I think it's absolutely ridiculous the
[00:26:13] number of people that go to university, probably part of it, but I also think that the the loans
[00:26:16] themselves, we should probably think about capping the interest rates, just as a first
[00:26:20] step, and I think that could help, labor said they'd scrap the fees, didn't they a good
[00:26:24] few years ago, suddenly they've gone up under them, so take that
[00:26:28] for what you will, uh, politicians lie, and it's the young people that are suffering'.
[00:26:32] do
[00:26:32] you know what I would like to see us do as well, um, celebrate
[00:26:36] is perhaps too strong a word, but almost like at the moment, I
[00:26:40] think sometimes when somebody tries something and fails, I think um,
[00:26:44] some people can be so quick to point, aha,
[00:26:47] look at him, look
[00:26:48] at her, uh, you loser, you tried this, it didn't work, blah, whereas
[00:26:52] in America, I would argue that actually having a
[00:26:55] failure,
[00:26:56] you know, under your belts, behind you and all the rest of it, it's seen not as a
[00:27:00] badge of honor necessarily, but almost um, you'd acknowledge
[00:27:04] that and you'd be like, hi five, you for having a gir, yeah, you've had a
[00:27:08] girl, you've probably learned, god and ears how many lessons along the way,
[00:27:12] there's none of this, look at him, look at her, she's failed, none of that, um, can
[00:27:16] I just say as well, if you are just tuning in tonight, you will have
[00:27:19] noticed, I am not in my regular place of work, I'm not
[00:27:23] behind a studio desk, no, they have let us out and about, we are coming

[00:48:05] queen, and I think that I'm looking at you, but you've just told
[00:48:08] me you're not into the world, so I'll move,
[00:48:10] I think queen Elizabeth was an exceptional, she was one the major figures the 20th, 21st
[00:48:13] century, 100%. My nen loved her, I used to sit there with my
[00:48:17] nan cup of tea and we used to sit there and watch the royal
[00:48:21] events and that... made me feel british that f made me
[00:48:25] feel proud and as soon as she died that sort
[00:48:29] of love for the royal family sort of died with me
[00:48:32] um
[00:48:33] you know always think of my nan with the queen so that was a massive loss
[00:48:37] to this country sharon um said michelle happy

[00:48:50] that the fact that we talk um you as opposed to
[00:48:54] um at you and lecture, we would not, and patrick, and

[00:49:01] people and tell them what to think, um, I would argue that we
[00:49:05] exist to have robust conversations, reflect some the
[00:49:09] conversations that are happening around dinner tables uh
[00:49:13] at home, and then yeah, pubs, and then people make their own minds,
[00:49:16] that's exactly how I decide what my running order is, and it replicates, I
[00:49:20] think, what is going on in people's. rooms, not everyone in every family and every house has the
[00:49:24] same political views and you sit there and you go back and forth, you chat about it over the dinner
[00:49:28] table, if you're a long car journey and you have those kind of discussions and I think the really
[00:49:32] important thing is is trying to bring that to the TV, but I also do
[00:49:35] fundamentally think that a world now where there are so many options out
[00:49:39] there, Netflix, all these different things that you could be doing,
[00:49:43] especially at the time of night that my show is on, I see it as a real
[00:49:46] privilege that people take the time out their day to choose to watch whatever is
[00:49:50] I'm serving up between 9 pm. and midnight Monday to Friday and and I don't
[00:49:54] say that for granted, I do, I do, the reason why I put huge amount of work into it is because
[00:49:58] I genuinely value all of those people, I'm not just saying that, I mean it, I be an honored that
[00:50:02] they invite me into their living rooms, Roy has just got in touch and says Michelle, I'm
[00:50:06] an ex-soldier uh, he says, I will never lose the love for
[00:50:10] my country, I'm not sure if you saw it or not, but when we just went outside, I just gave a
[00:50:14] little shout out actually to our veterans, because they
[00:50:18] are so important to us as nation Adam, we wouldn't have the
[00:50:21] freedoms to... we have today, if it wasn't for the people that laid
[00:50:25] their lives out there, that lost their lives, that
[00:50:29] put all on offer, um, so we must
[00:50:32] always respect and pay tribute to our veterans, and
[00:50:36] that is sometimes I feel like the younger generations, maybe some on the left, not
[00:50:40] aaron, will really sort of um go against
[00:50:44] that, and and
[00:50:45] it it really gets me angry, because everything that we have in this
[00:50:48] country and our ability to for a publican to sit.
[00:50:53] and say my opinions on the telly are because of those people that died
[00:50:56] in those conflicts, so always respect the veterans. uh, yes

[00:51:08] know what, she's also referenced uh, post cards, she's

[00:51:39] say one thing about climate change, and uh, there's many bad things one might
[00:51:43] say, is that probably for the next 20, 30, 40 years, british seaside towns might
[00:51:47] see a bit of

[00:55:27] for much of England and Wales, some eastern areas of Scotland as well as
[00:55:31] northern Island, rurally temperatures falling away down to the low.
[00:55:35] figures, towns and cities will be a little bit warmer than that to start the
[00:55:39] day, but still pretty fresh wherever you are. a strong wind across the
[00:55:43] far north and west of Scotland will accompany the heavy rain, they'll persist
[00:55:46] through much of Friday across the western irs as well as the
[00:55:50] highlands, some heavy bursts in that with strong gusty near gale
[00:55:54] force winds, much dryer though for more eastern areas of Scotland as well as
[00:55:57] more southern ares where it will remain relatively warm through much the
[00:56:01] day. northern island seeing fine start to the day, temperatures around 14
[00:56:05] or 15 degrees here and elsewhere across England, apart from the odd shower
[00:56:09] across some coastal areas, it will be dry and sunny start
[00:56:13] to the day, then there will be more in the way of sunshine than we've had
[00:56:16] today across much the country and that means it will be a little bit warmer
[00:56:20] too, it's not going to be water wall blue skies but plenty of
[00:56:24] bright sunshine through the day, particularly across some southern areas of
[00:56:28] England as well as northern Island and southern areas of Scotland where temperatures
[00:56:32] will climb to the mid-20s across the south. east 25
[00:56:35] degrees likely across southeastern areas, a warmer day
[00:56:39] to come on Saturday, rain still persisting though across more northwestern
[00:56:43] areas, the winds will be a little bit lighter but still quite a wet day
