[00:06:44] tournaments for so long, in fact you could forgive him for buckling under the pressure
[00:06:48] but he never really did and he was a good servant for England and it's pretty he didn't play
[00:06:52] with some better players around
[00:06:54] in his in the heart he's had he's had
[00:06:56] an amazing career he really has which i think that's terrific
[00:07:00] okay let's talk more about is he going to make you tune in yeah that

[00:07:26] minister is plotting early election uh, growing rumors
[00:07:30] that Andy Burnham wants to announce a snap election probably early next
[00:07:34] year because he needs a mandate now to
[00:07:37] raise taxes, well that's as Britain is expected to
[00:07:41] spend 19 billion pounds more each year on
[00:07:45] disability benefits by the end the decade.
[00:07:49] after Andy Buurnam refused to tackle the balloon welfare
[00:07:53] bill on the upcoming budget. now of course the conservatives have
[00:07:56] criticized his failure to act accusing labor once again
[00:08:00] of putting social security over national
[00:08:03] safety, but um I mean I suppose he's got to
[00:08:07] find the money somewhere and taxing the rich would make
[00:08:11] sense, but of course... Star promised he wouldn't, so
[00:08:14] um, what do we think, Jennifer Pass, who I've just introduced earlier,
[00:08:18] uh, is here with us, do you think these rumors probably might be true
[00:08:22] now? Good morning, well, it it does seem to be that that
[00:08:26] that that the rumor is picking up, um, it would make sense
[00:08:29] politically for him to lock a full five-year
[00:08:33] term, um, to have that personal mandate that he lacks, because he won
[00:08:37] the by-election in Makerfield rather than national, uh,
[00:08:40] general election, however, "one has to wonder
[00:08:44] if despite the political uh rational that
[00:08:48] the economy will intervene. I mean, we have very, very big
[00:08:52] budget coming up at the end of October, John Healey's first budget
[00:08:56] as chancellor, and the debt markets, we've seen the spike in
[00:09:00] 30 year and 10 year guilts, that's the cost to the government of
[00:09:04] borrowing, they've gone up 28 year highs,
[00:09:07] um, the very interesting to see the former
[00:09:11] economist the bank of England." Andy Hansein intervened during the
[00:09:14] week saying that there was a real risk uh
[00:09:18] internationally that uh Burnham's government was seen as
[00:09:22] classic tax and spend socialist government with
[00:09:25] better TikTok videos. So it may
[00:09:29] be that despite his his desire to get a full
[00:09:32] term uh you know from from the new year that
[00:09:35] that it the public finances and the state the economy will
[00:09:39] mean that his opinion poll ratings go off cliff. Yeah. well
[00:09:43] talking of opinion poll ratings, the latest episouse poll have
[00:09:47] just seen at the moment puts them four points ahead of
[00:09:51] reform, going into the party conference of course where you
[00:09:55] always get a bit of a bounce anyway, but perhaps
[00:09:58] incentive with everything you said about the the
[00:10:02] economy and how international uh affairs
[00:10:06] and issues can really impact it such as the war in Iran for
[00:10:09] instance um maybe going sooner. other than later
[00:10:13] is exactly what he might be incentivized to do, well
[00:10:17] indeed, I mean, he's in a great pull uh,
[00:10:21] pull position compared to his predecessor, he's he's got the b'.
[00:10:25] bounce and as you say, um, going into party conference a
[00:10:29] week's time is likely to get quite a lot of air time
[00:10:33] and potentially another bounce. um, i
[00:10:36] personally think that he he may have already waited too long, i think he would have
[00:10:40] perhaps been better to go in july when he became prime
[00:10:43] minister, because that that was before, um, because he was
[00:10:47] incredibly popular at that point, well yeah, there's nothing anyone could pin
[00:10:50] against him,
[00:10:51] you know, the conservatives are reform whomever could have said, oh, 'you know you
[00:10:55] haven't dealt with the the the benefits bill which we may touch on or you haven't
[00:10:59] funded defense and all their criticism would fallen because
[00:11:01] have flat he would have said well give a chance I'm going to do
[00:11:05] everything he could have made every promise so um I I just
[00:11:09] wonder if the economic reality will collide and derail
[00:11:13] his uh political plans well it does sound like he is
[00:11:16] not minded at the moment anyway to make any swinging
[00:11:20] cuts on benefits especially seeing
[00:11:23] such uh you know pmqs with the you wouldn't do it
[00:11:27] at the cost of social security, yeah exactly, national security can't come at the cost of
[00:11:30] social, mean that doesn't sound like a prime minister who's going to go
[00:11:34] c, mean part of me wonders is
[00:11:37] you know he is better at politics than than the former prime minister Kier Stamer,
[00:11:41] so maybe he's talking left but will actually act a
[00:11:45] bit more right-wing in practice, maybe he will uh you
[00:11:48] know make some cuts uh in the budget or or in the
[00:11:52] spending review next spring um but
[00:11:55] you know, as you say, it it doesn't give that impression at all when he's been
[00:11:59] on at the dispatch box or in the media, and
[00:12:02] really the dividing lines um are
[00:12:06] really becoming clear, I mean
[00:12:08] we had three interventions from the conservatives on the
[00:12:11] economy and on the budget this week, we had Andrew Griffith, the shadow
[00:12:15] chancelor, give his first major speech on Thursday, we had Richard Fuller
[00:12:19] who's a shadow treasury minister, make an intervention
[00:12:22] yesterday uh claiming the government ment was in denial about the state the
[00:12:26] public finances and you saying they should get a grip and then today
[00:12:30] we have the story um with Helen Waitley who's in the Shadow Treasury team
[00:12:34] who's talking about that massive rise in the disability
[00:12:38] payments, the pit payments that are looking to go up so much over the next few
[00:12:42] years, so the conservatives uh obviously wanting to
[00:12:45] say we're on the side of national security, this government
[00:12:49] isn't taking the state the public finances seriously wants to pretend he's doing
[00:12:53] both then the obvious way to is tax the rich, isn't it? well, and
[00:12:57] we've seen that, because we saw um some kite flying, even
[00:13:00] yesterday uh, with uh things in the paper around
[00:13:03] potentially uh, I mean this is potential changes to a potential
[00:13:07] tax that hasn't been introduced yet, but I'm talking about the mansion tax, um,
[00:13:11] so originally that was proposed to come in at homes worth 2 million, um, and there's been
[00:13:15] talk over the weekend that that thresh hold will be lowered to 1.5 million
[00:13:19] to bring in um, extra 800 million or so
[00:13:22] pounds, but you're getting dangerously close to... the kind of three
[00:13:26] bedroom two bath semi in London and the
[00:13:28] southeast at least, now I know people elsewhere in the
[00:13:32] country may have little sympathy with that, but there's lots of very middle class people
[00:13:36] who own houses very near to that bracket um and of course it's
[00:13:40] introducing huge um huge impact
[00:13:44] a huge disruption on the housing market so we don't quite know um where that
[00:13:47] will lead yeah but the traditional labor voter and probably an awful lot
[00:13:51] of his back benchers wouldn't see anything wrong with that no and This is
[00:13:55] what's I think making h so popular with the party, I mean he's going into the party
[00:13:59] conference, riding high, his comments about about Gaza
[00:14:03] and Israel um and his comments about the importance of social
[00:14:06] security, um so as you say he he's much better at
[00:14:10] playing to the left wing and playing to his back benchers. Uh, it's
[00:14:14] interesting, some people have been in touch already, Jazzy says and he doesn't have to find the money,
[00:14:18] Andy Burnham that is, he doesn't have to find it, he needs to stop paying it out,
[00:14:22] yes, but he won't, will he, he's already indicated that. that
[00:14:26] was yeah, that is an option, but not one he seems he's going to willing to
[00:14:30] take, yeah, yeah, um, miss jones, morning says, labor just
[00:14:34] simply looking after their voters, well, i think that's probably very good, easy way
[00:14:38] to put it, um, and brian says 40 is way too old to have
[00:14:41] baby,
[00:14:42] oh wow, oh oh, my mom was 30 when she had me, and she was
[00:14:46] much older than my classmate's mom, so that felt too old as I grew
[00:14:50] up, I know things have changed, but can you imagine Lady Gagar at
[00:14:53] 50 running about... with her 10-year-old, yeah, yes, can, I
[00:14:57] can, and Brown says, I'd say 21 to 25 should be the only
[00:15:01] ages you should be thinking about having kids, oh dear, no, I'm sorry, I
[00:15:05] really don't agree with that, that seems a bit, that seems a bit, age of
[00:15:09] 40, and I was running around at 50, people are much
[00:15:12] younger and fitter now, a
[00:15:16] comparative age to, and women have careers, much
[00:15:20] more than they did, maybe even a generation ago, they have careers first, and then they
[00:15:24] decide, it's a difficult. decision, but um, because then it gets very
[00:15:27] expensive, as we all know, but do continue to come in with
[00:15:31] your comments, yeah, very good comments very early in the morning, any

[00:16:53] girl, it's also a thought that changed the world. The
[00:16:57] writer CS Lewis described Grace as the
[00:17:00] unique, defining quality of Christianity. Grace
[00:17:04] says that it doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, 'if you come
[00:17:08] humbly to God in true repentance, you can be forgiven
[00:17:11] and you can start over. That seems almost unfair,
[00:17:15] doesn't it? What about justice? What about
[00:17:18] consequences? Jesus told a parable about
[00:17:22] agricultural workers a vineyard. In the
[00:17:25] parable, everyone got paid the same, no matter what time
[00:17:29] they started work. Understandably, those that worked
[00:17:33] all day were miffed when the afternoon laborers'...
[00:17:37] got the same wages they did. The
[00:17:41] parable exposes the scandal of grace.
[00:17:45] Grace doesn't measure our worthiness, which is a good thing, because
[00:17:49] if it did, we'd all fall short. Grace responds to
[00:17:52] one thing: the humble heart that acknowledges its need
[00:17:56] for forgiveness and comes with the desire to
[00:18:00] start again. We all have to live with the consequences of
[00:18:04] our actions, but grace open. the door
[00:18:08] into God's forgiveness and the chance to live differently in
[00:18:12] our lives and our world, and grace holds that door
[00:18:16] open to anyone who would
[00:18:18] enter.
[00:18:27] This Christmas you may be very lucky to see a Robin, because
[00:18:31] apparently they've been hit particularly badly by the extremely hot
[00:18:35] weather we had during the summer. because of course they like to they
[00:18:39] like um earth with lots of worms and grubs and
[00:18:42] apparently uh
[00:18:43] but the drought has had really bad effect on obviously hardening up the ground so
[00:18:47] they can't yeah and then - and it's also been too hot for some many
[00:18:50] bugs so apparently Robins would normally have about three lots of
[00:18:54] babies um every year which I didn't know
[00:18:58] um yeah Robins have been particularly hard hit I wonder how we can look
[00:19:01] after our robins well yeah I mean the the difficulty is when you put
[00:19:05] things out in the garden now you got squirrels, yes, the squirrels come and get it, I've tried
[00:19:09] doing that, and that's a real problem. talking of weather, should we catch up
[00:19:13] with it, see what it's going to be like for us today, here's a

[00:19:44] dry and bright start to the day. well, we'll see some rainers across Scotland. still
[00:19:48] a bit blustery here to start the day, but soon winds will ease away and most
[00:19:52] the showers clearing across Scotland as well. so actually for many of us it should
[00:19:56] be dry bright end to the weekend, plenty of sunshine, and although
[00:20:00] temperatures are touchdown compared to yesterday, with lighter winds and more
[00:20:04] sunshine, it should feel rather pleasant for us all. temperatures wide. in the mid
[00:20:07] to high teens, if not the low 20s across eastern and southeast
[00:20:11] England. Now to finish off the day, we could start to
[00:20:15] see a bit more clouds start to feed through across areas of Scotland. Perhaps still the
[00:20:19] odd light shower just pushing through into the northern is, but much
[00:20:23] lighter winds compared to what we saw yesterday afternoon, a little bit of cloud
[00:20:27] just pushing into northern Ireland, perhaps northern and northwest England, but
[00:20:31] elsewhere across much of England or Wales, there should be clear skies to finish off
[00:20:35] the day, so some late evening sunshine. and then we start to see a bit of a
[00:20:38] change overnight, cloud continuing to thicken across Scotland, northern
[00:20:42] Ireland and northern parts of England, and eventually this will be thick enough to produce some
[00:20:46] rain through the early hours of Monday, so another quite wet start across...

[00:26:42] he's capitulated and it's been written by PR types. anyway,
[00:26:46] tickets for Ed Sheeron's American stadium tour have
[00:26:49] since plumeted of course in the week of that row over
[00:26:53] whether he should or shouldn't say something about Palestine and
[00:26:57] some have gone as low as $60. yeah, so has one of Britain's
[00:27:01] biggest stars... become the latest casualty of culture
[00:27:05] wars, if you like. well, ben leo was in Philadelphia before the
[00:27:09] concert. Ed Sheeren is about to perform at this stadium
[00:27:13] in Philadelphia, but he's dealing with the biggest crisis of his
[00:27:16] career because of this. I wanted to stand up
[00:27:19] here on stages and stadiums
[00:27:23] across America and say two words that
[00:27:26] are very near and dear to my heart,
[00:27:30] free Palestine. US singer
[00:27:34] Macalmore booted off Sheeron's tour as a support act for
[00:27:38] using his slot to turn it into a political rallying cry for
[00:27:41] Gaza. Ed Sheeren said it was the promoter who kicked Macalmore off the
[00:27:45] tour and he had nothing much to do with it, but all the other supportacts on
[00:27:49] his tour have now quit in disgust and other artists from around the world
[00:27:53] separately, including Pink Floyd's Roger Waters have ripped into
[00:27:57] him. There's two kinds of people in this world. There's people who
[00:28:01] do the right thing. that rapper
[00:28:04] Macalmore would be one of those people, and there's
[00:28:08] people, many them, sadly little, excuse me, I
[00:28:12] nearly used the f- word then, like you who
[00:28:15] do the wrong thing, but the question begs, is it a
[00:28:19] musical artist responsibility to mix politics with
[00:28:23] their craft, and with a pro-palestine protest planned right here in
[00:28:27] Philadelphia to coincide with Sheiren's concert, I caught up with few of
[00:28:30] Sheeron's fans to see what they... made the controversy. do you feel sorry
[00:28:34] for Ed? he's getting lot of flack. everyone's having a do we feel for him? yeah,
[00:28:38] not really. deserves it.
[00:28:41] i don't say he deserves it, but mean in a sense i feel like his silence is kind of
[00:28:44] answer. making this whole excuse that he's not political and he never gets involved, but he was
[00:28:48] perfectly comfortable getting involved with Ukraine and supporting
[00:28:52] them. rightfully so, but he can't take the same
[00:28:55] approach to another to genocide happening against the people
[00:28:59] of Gaza. everybody should be entitled to their opinion. but you shouldn't make
[00:29:03] a part of your performance, it should get involved politically if they have
[00:29:07] to, they shouldn't just stay silent. yeah, mean he has lot of
[00:29:11] money. the uh the lead singer the googoo dolls, i think he's called
[00:29:15] john resnick said um he doesn't want fans to come to his
[00:29:18] concerts and lecture them politically and doesn't care from what background they're from,
[00:29:22] they just want to have a good time. do you sympathize with that kind of message? mean there is, but i
[00:29:26] just feel like when you have an entire group of people getting wiped out off the face the earth, it just
[00:29:30] becomes different ball game off. Sheren wraps up in Philadelphia he
[00:29:34] continues 10 more gigs across America including Atlanta and
[00:29:38] Tampa in November before wrapping up in South America and
[00:29:41] Mexico in December, but the big question is will this controversy
[00:29:45] carry on, will it continue? will we keep seeing Palestine protest until
[00:29:49] then or will it perhaps be nipped in the

[00:48:20] published on Tuesday. is causing even more trouble for
[00:48:24] the king and really and you can tell by the response, you can
[00:48:28] tell by the response, which is quite unprecedented, actually the the the king
[00:48:32] and his aids and his sources and his quarters don't normally respond, buckingham palace
[00:48:36] doesn't normally, although they don't live there um doesn't normally respond, but the way
[00:48:40] they've come out about this book and about the allegations that he
[00:48:43] allegedly said to Earl Spencer few days after Diana's
[00:48:47] funeral, you know she she'll be forgotten very soon, all of that, you can tell
[00:48:51] that the king is really... really really rattled about this, he's got
[00:48:55] problems with Andrew mountbatton winser, that's what
[00:48:57] you see on the front the telegraph, he's got problems probably browing even more so
[00:49:01] with his son, harry and megan who are now back in the UK, the king cannot
[00:49:05] catch a break can he? um and yeah this book is coming out on
[00:49:08] tuesday and spencer is not a happy man and you
[00:49:12] know do
[00:49:13] we trust you can you can also tell that they're hitting back you know
[00:49:17] because there are stories across the media about this dreadful earl spencer and
[00:49:21] he's been married four times 'and he's been awful with his daughters
[00:49:24] and didn't turn up at their weddings and there's all these different stories out there about how
[00:49:28] badly he's treated his own family and why on earth should we
[00:49:32] trust this man so I suppose you pick side on this one
[00:49:36] or you don't care at all I wonder I wonder how much people
[00:49:40] care I think because it's Diana it's always going to be on the front
[00:49:44] pages yeah we've noticed it uh with the messages coming in now you know
[00:49:47] people already taking sinow one side or the other and it's
[00:49:51] it's just up old woods very unseemly yeah, but mean it's on the
[00:49:55] front pages because the daily mail has the serialization so they've really been going big
[00:49:59] keep it going exactly and they've managed to do so now with - with the phrase gas lighting
[00:50:03] being used how very modern if in the middle of
[00:50:06] a row accuse the other person of gas lighting that's page one exactly it
[00:50:10] isn't it and also look as working class lab from mansfield i remind myself what we've got here

[00:50:43] sense, why he's written the book now, well i think
[00:50:46] after 30 years, mean he has been brewing on this hasn't
[00:50:50] he, it's a long time. do you not think it is the money side
[00:50:54] though? of course it's i think that might be the bubble too isn't
[00:50:58] he? well this is a great time to cash in next year is that big anniversary year
[00:51:01] so and look what we're doing we're giving such level of publicity which his other
[00:51:05] books haven't got of course and i think that there is also a sort of
[00:51:09] side story which is is this a sort of unholy alliance with him
[00:51:13] and with Harry
[00:51:14] you know is this rumored series potentially or netflix thing
[00:51:18] about about that maybe coming from harry and megan about Diana I wonder if
[00:51:22] all at each other up, yeah, because we know that Harry and
[00:51:26] thorp Megan in
[00:51:26] stayed July, they've both fallen out with the father
[00:51:30] with with King Charles, um, they both don't get on with
[00:51:34] William, so it wouldn't be beyond the wit of you, wouldn't be on the realms of
[00:51:37] possibility, but I think the reaction from
[00:51:41] everybody I meet and from our audience is that, I mean it's
[00:51:45] just horrible, we just don't want to hear anymore of this, we thought that was
[00:51:49] over, and can we not remember her in better terms? than
[00:51:53] this bikering between two grown men yeah firstly it's a woman who was killed and secondly steve's
[00:51:57] absolutely right all families go through these kind of awful awful fallings
[00:52:01] out and it's very painful if you're involved at least
[00:52:05] spencer is obviously still seeing and and the king is not well, the
[00:52:09] king is actually still undergoing cancer treatment, all of this stress is
[00:52:12] not great for for that either. okay, well let's change to
[00:52:16] something else, certainly not more cheery, no, yeah, what, what, what do you
[00:52:20] fancy? well, i like burning obviously with my defense
[00:52:23] brief uh, fiddling while Europe could be burning,
[00:52:27] yeah, this is can be benock saying this, it makes a lot of sense, it's because the amount
[00:52:31] of money we're talking about, you've got to get, i'll tell you who wants there to be money or

[00:52:50] casual reader of newspaper feels this threat of actual hot wars
[00:52:54] has never been more threatening and then you got this term that's cropped up lot recently this hybrid war
[00:52:58] so even if you yeah what is a hybrid war well
[00:53:00] it's greay zone war it's just bit the
[00:53:04] thresh hole what would require a sort of military response,
[00:53:07] but
[00:53:09] you know Putin is pushing the envelope further and further, we
[00:53:12] we you know hear about the drone attacks on the cargo planes at
[00:53:16] Leipsic airport in Germany, had that actually come to
[00:53:20] fruition, you you could have had a plane in the air being
[00:53:24] targeted and god knows what kind of destruction and cam makes
[00:53:28] a really good point here, we're talking about John Healey, okay he was the defense sector and he's now the
[00:53:31] guy in charge the per strings, where the heck is west? greating, he's
[00:53:35] our actual defense secretary, and I don't know if you
[00:53:39] have a hotline to him, but he seems oddly quiet to me,
[00:53:43] and no presents at all.

[00:53:48] makes his announcement, well that, and I think he's a very steep learning curve,

[00:55:40] England. Now to finish off the day, we could start to

[01:07:33] bill in the upcoming budget. Well, we're all waiting for
[01:07:37] that. The conservatives meanwile then have criticized his failure to act
[01:07:41] accusing lady. once again of putting social security
[01:07:45] over national safety, well it's all part of
[01:07:49] a grander plan uh or should say is it all part
[01:07:52] of a grander plan, who knows, maybe
[01:07:56] Jennifer Power can um give us some insight
[01:08:00] into whether you think there is a grand plan at
[01:08:03] play to take us into early election, well there's mixed signals
[01:08:07] aren't there, mean we h we thought annie burnam had a grand plan when
[01:08:11] he uh arrived to number 10 only to find out through some
[01:08:15] leaks this week that um much the plan had been Kier
[01:08:19] Starmer's plan that he a sense chosen implement, it made
[01:08:22] me laugh though, because some the journalists involved in that were making a big
[01:08:26] deal the fact that um
[01:08:29] you know the there were detailed announcements in different
[01:08:33] areas and on the energy brief which I used to cover in number 10
[01:08:37] it had you know faster on electrification and
[01:08:40] do more on insulation and just made me laugh because I thought it's not a secret
[01:08:44] plan, that's not Kier Stamer's plan, that's not Andy Burnon's plan, that is just what
[01:08:48] the energy department will say if you ask them what to do, that is
[01:08:52] the bog standard thing um that that those looking
[01:08:56] implement net zero as quickly enforcefully as possible will put
[01:09:00] forward, so um I didn't feel like it was any particular prime
[01:09:03] minister's um vision for the future, it was just the civil
[01:09:06] service progressing the civil services
[01:09:10] agendas um the traditional image. of um labor government
[01:09:14] is to tax and spend, yes, and they've got to spend, otherwise people are
[01:09:18] going to go mad about that, because we we know we need more money in defense
[01:09:21] spending, at least. Andy Burnam has already more or less said
[01:09:25] full, full on, that he won't cut back on, he
[01:09:29] said social um spending is more important
[01:09:33] than um, yes, he said it shouldn't come at the, it shouldn't come at the
[01:09:37] so he and John Healey must be having very detailed talks
[01:09:41] about where they're going to find. enough money to pay both bills
[01:09:44] amongst others and the obvious way is to tax the
[01:09:48] rich, I'm not suggesting to tax the rich, I'm just saying they are
[01:09:52] probably thinking that way, yes, and and we've already seen a few leaks, we've
[01:09:56] uh we we saw uh the leak uh just yesterday around lowering the threshold
[01:09:59] for the mansion tax uh from the proposed 2 million
[01:10:03] to 1.5 million, perhaps it'll you know be brought down
[01:10:07] even further bringing more and more families into that um to try to get you
[01:10:11] know have... billion or billion pounds of extra tax revenue.
[01:10:15] um, in the past, we've had governments raise indirect
[01:10:18] taxes, so um, things like insurance premium
[01:10:22] tax, well, you may think, okay, fine, the they're raising the tax on insurance,
[01:10:26] well, you you go to go on your you, your holiday to Mallorca or
[01:10:30] Abitha or or whatever, you're you know Tampa, Florida, and you
[01:10:34] wonder why,
[01:10:35] you know, it costs so much to get your travel insurance, and because
[01:10:39] you know, half of
[01:10:41] it is is down to insurance. has been raising, so the government is often
[01:10:44] looking for specific um populations, like those
[01:10:48] who own own bigger houses, um, or other indirect
[01:10:51] taxes to make the numbers work, but it gets harder and harder
[01:10:55] because they seem to have reached the limit at which they can raise
[01:10:58] taxes uh, where it will still bring in more revenue because you get to
[01:11:02] point where when taxes are a certain level that you actually if you
[01:11:06] raise them more you get less revenue because people actually work less
[01:11:10] or the very rich leave the country so you can't can't just keep keep
[01:11:13] taxing and expect to get more revenue, but they're also after a quick fix, aren't
[01:11:17] they? because you know it takes time if you cut for
[01:11:20] instance business rates, taxes on companies and the like
[01:11:24] for that then to filter through for the confidence to grow, for them to then
[01:11:28] invest for the economy to grow, you then tax rich
[01:11:32] as they seem to have this fixation for doing, that
[01:11:36] for them that's instant straight into the exchecker, well
[01:11:40] guess the benefit of tax raises is is that they are. often can come in on the day
[01:11:43] the budget or sometimes at the start the next tax year, but you're quite right
[01:11:47] in that um, there have a real uh, it's
[01:11:51] going to be a real um challenge for them to make the numbers work,
[01:11:55] especially because the fiscal headroom has shrunk over the past few weeks because we've
[01:11:59] seen inflation creeping back in globally, we've seen a rise
[01:12:03] in borrowing costs um and so that really
[01:12:06] puts Heale a corner in terms of how he's going to how he's going to
[01:12:10] make uh everything add up and we had the headline
[01:12:13] earlier about the huge rise in
[01:12:17] projected rise in the in the personal independence payment, the disability
[01:12:20] payments. um, now labor will come back and say,
[01:12:23] look, um, stephen tims is undertaking review
[01:12:27] of pip, we had that, we had that, um, sorry, i
[01:12:31] was racing my ey, we we had we had
[01:12:35] mark feeling quite skeptical about that, yes, we had a we had a provisional
[01:12:39] report and the final reports at the end the year, but to your point, "we're only going to
[01:12:43] get the the final report at the end the year, and then how long will it take
[01:12:47] for them implement it? it might not actually fix the
[01:12:50] problem, and we're many years in the future, the reputation the prime minister and the
[01:12:54] chancellor." live or die frankly by the next by the well it it's
[01:12:58] interesting, i mean some ways you know uh one never really gets away from
[01:13:02] George Osborne despite the fact that he's not been uh chancelor for very many
[01:13:05] years, but he's got you know eight or nine jobs and he's has his own
[01:13:09] podcast and I was listening to it the other day and he was talking about how he was at the
[01:13:13] investor Day in Canada with Mark Harney of course who his good mates with
[01:13:17] because he appointed Mark Harney to be governor the back bank of
[01:13:20] England and um he was talking about how Canada was making this pitch to
[01:13:24] global investors um because that's the sort of thing that
[01:13:27] even um you know uh G7 G20 countries have
[01:13:31] to do nowadays, it's not something um like in the old days that was seen
[01:13:35] as beneath you know a Canada or a Germany to
[01:13:38] do uh and they were having to
[01:13:40] you know make their pitch to global investors and he was saying you know this
[01:13:43] country it would be very hard pitch for Burnham and
[01:13:47] Healey to make were they to do that as well because the state the
[01:13:51] public finances because it takes a while as you say
[01:13:55] um for changes they make to feed through, and no one has ever taxed
[01:13:59] a country into prosperity, yet that seems to be the
[01:14:03] government's plan as best as we can make it out, so how that tallies
[01:14:07] with rumors of early election, um, we'll just have to wait and see, because
[01:14:11] those two realities may collide, the prime minister wanning that
[01:14:15] five-year mandate with the state the economy, yeah, they clash a bit, don't they,

[01:15:03] now plummeted to just 40 pounds. crumbs.

[01:15:11] casualty of America's culture wars. let's talk to GB News Showbiz

[01:15:18] capitulate, did he give in or was he bound to say something because he
[01:15:22] simply had to in the end? "if I call it
[01:15:25] capitulation, I think he he had to say something, there
[01:15:29] was 50,00 people there that had shown their solidarity with
[01:15:33] edge in last night, obviously this entire controversy stands
[01:15:37] around the supportacmore who quit,
[01:15:41] well he was dismissed should we say making comments
[01:15:44] in Palestine on stage, he wasn't dismissed by Ashren, he was
[01:15:48] dismissed by the tour organizers and venue owners,
[01:15:52] and so edge and he tried to both sides the..." previously,
[01:15:56] but it's resulted in quite a vitriolic reception he
[01:15:59] faced last nights in Philadelphia for example, the
[01:16:03] pro-palestinian um protesters assembled
[01:16:06] outside of his venue to picket it and said all sorts of
[01:16:10] obsenities towards Ed and towards his fans, so
[01:16:14] it was inevitable that he was going to address it, more out of gratitude for the people
[01:16:18] that were there a capitulation if
[01:16:20] you know what I mean, and he said
[01:16:22] you know, I'm I'm making mistakes, this is... being
[01:16:25] incredibly fast moving situation, i've had to make some incredibly difficult decisions
[01:16:29] and he never wanted to be a political
[01:16:33] activist, they forced his hand, yeah, but mean
[01:16:36] it did have the feel to me as you was completely written
[01:16:40] by you know PR damage limitation
[01:16:44] experts in everything he said and the way he said it about he'd
[01:16:48] been you know what was it bursting to he can't
[01:16:52] he couldn't keep quite any longer on on the issue?
[01:16:55] 'yeah, yeah, he read off of a
[01:16:58] teleprop to as well, which hasn't gone down well with his critics, it seems
[01:17:02] very scripted, but then in this day and age, when you give
[01:17:06] him such victory all for something he didn't say, the words that he wanted to say last
[01:17:10] night came across like he wanted to get them spot on, he he brought
[01:17:14] up the October 7th Nova, festival massacre from
[01:17:17] Hamas, he brought up the devastation that has followed, he did
[01:17:21] again sort of try to both sides it, but
[01:17:25] just sort of explain his thinking somewhat, whether that was tailored
[01:17:29] by PR is up for interpretation shall we say?
[01:17:33] but he also,
[01:17:34] you know, he said it's been the worst week of his life, he thanked the 50,00 people who had
[01:17:37] made the journey and he performed most of his
[01:17:41] set solo, but he did eventually manage to bring
[01:17:45] out some musicians who had agreed to perform with him, obviously earlier this
[01:17:48] week, lot the musicians, his backing, it wasn't just a support act,
[01:17:52] his backing band quit in solidarity. with m
[01:17:56] and so he made few calls and he was able to bring in some other musicians
[01:18:00] to help him out and um from
[01:18:02] what i've seen it was incredibly emotional evening for him, i can see
[01:18:06] that yeah mean do you think it was? affect him
[01:18:08] forever, it's so hard
[01:18:11] to say, isn't it? because when you're smeared, shall we say, with these sort of
[01:18:15] tags, it's very hard to shake them off, especially when
[01:18:19] the activist, the activism is so relentless, we did see
[01:18:23] some lot of people are comparing the sort of movement to sort the BLM
[01:18:27] age and how people were tainted by BLM at that time, but
[01:18:31] nowadays you tend not to really be too much
[01:18:34] focused on BLM mainly because the... cause has taken over
[01:18:38] that, so whether this will be moment he can ride and eventually come out the
[01:18:42] other side or whether he will be tainted forever sort of remains to be
[01:18:46] seen, i would like to think that uh shiren
[01:18:50] will come this and continue to talk, the you
[01:18:54] mentioned about ticket prices earlier, there was still 50,00 people there last
[01:18:58] inside inside the
[01:19:00] venue,
[01:19:02] think i've only seen sort of one soul protester inside
[01:19:06] the venue, it didn't, pick off, it wasn't like it was peppered with
[01:19:10] empty seeds, yeah, i think he'll be okay, yeah, i think
[01:19:13] you, i we haven't actually heard, but i'm sure he was good, yeah, he was still
[01:19:17] good and gave the fans what they'd really come for, can ask you about strictly come
[01:19:21] dancing uh, because lot of people are talking about it this morning, first um

[01:32:24] more. Well, I think it's appalling because I
[01:32:28] got pregnant at 38 and I went to the doctors and she's
[01:32:32] called a geriatric mother and was
[01:32:35] offended, i cannot tell you, i was like,
[01:32:39] geriatric, that literally means old frail past it,
[01:32:43] and i'm 38 years old, and look, i think that
[01:32:47] woman in her 40s, lady gaga is a
[01:32:50] multi-millionaire, she is bringing this child into the world,
[01:32:54] can give them the best resources, the best possible
[01:32:57] life, and as a 40-year-old mom, now i
[01:33:01] am uh,
[01:33:02] but must say I think it's fabulous. I have so
[01:33:06] much life experience that I think I'm in the best possible
[01:33:10] position to like mold my child and help him navigate through
[01:33:14] life struggles because I've been on the planet four
[01:33:18] decades nearly five um and I i think that's great. I've had my
[01:33:22] party days that's all out of my system. I think I'm
[01:33:25] a I think I'm a great mom but I think I'm a great position to be a
[01:33:29] mom because of my age. I don't think it's... selfish, i think it's
[01:33:33] selfish to have baby when you can't um
[01:33:37] provide for them or forcing young girls into having
[01:33:41] children that they don't want to have because people are against things like a b'.
[01:33:45] and things like that, so that to me is is way more selfish and irresponsible,
[01:33:49] having a baby in your 40s is fabulous. Debbie, what do you
[01:33:52] think? well, first of all, you're a geriatric mother, over
[01:33:56] 30, certainly over 30, it's it's a medical
[01:33:59] term, yeah, it's a medical term, and I was
[01:34:03] classed as geriatric mother with my first child when I was 30, and I w,
[01:34:07] what, um, I, really, that's when that's
[01:34:11] then, back in 1416, and you know, actually. 'when we had
[01:34:15] our babies, that's that's what it was, it depends how you
[01:34:19] call older, i think what you've got to look at is is is
[01:34:22] nature,
[01:34:23] you know, there is reason why we stop ovulating
[01:34:27] a certain age so we can't have children, because it's there's a lot of reasons
[01:34:31] behind it, and it's nothing to do with dying early, it's to do, i'm sure
[01:34:35] it's to do with bloody energy to be honest with you, you have to have
[01:34:39] as mother lot of energy, now at the moment your little boy is,
[01:34:43] when he is 15, you're going to be 50'. five and
[01:34:46] that is is different and fabulous of
[01:34:49] course, but but it it's it,

[01:35:38] against people having but think everyone you know in america lady

[01:35:44] you know because why? because they can't be botherd to go through pregnancy, because

[01:37:18] and equal rights and all those wonderful things that the new generation of men

[01:41:58] ago he's worth about 15 billion pounds. now look at what he's done at
[01:42:02] the club, mean he's overseen 450 redundancies, he had that that row about
[01:42:05] paperclips,
[01:42:06] was there a couple of years ago talking about the stationary budget at the
[01:42:09] at the club, oh that was him, yeah that was him, yeah yeah, and the sack two managers as well,
[01:42:13] you can criticize what he's done in terms of how united performed on the pitch, but guess he
[01:42:17] would, he would say look you know i don't own all the
[01:42:20] clubs i don't have total control on what goes on, but it's his venture
[01:42:23] into politics uh that has uh araused some
[01:42:27] some have some backlash over the last 24 hours or so now just take us
[01:42:31] back, i'm going to take us back to February when he apologized for comments saying that the country had been
[01:42:35] connalized by uh by immigrants and the club had to then step in
[01:42:38] and say that the club is prides itself on being inclusive now he
[01:42:42] said yesterday he gave an interview we're going to hear from him in a
[01:42:46] moment but it was much along the same lines just here what he had to
[01:42:49] say at the moment i think the UK is on the
[01:42:53] slide it's quite difficult to see how we arrest
[01:42:57] it's but I think ultimately we need politicians, two
[01:43:01] two things, we need politicians who are tough enough to deal
[01:43:05] with some very difficult problems, and we know what the problems are, and we need politicians who
[01:43:09] will make decisions which are good for the country, not good for
[01:43:12] themselves and their party. So that's the Jim
[01:43:16] Ratcliff there, the Muslim fans group at Manchester United released a statement
[01:43:20] yesterday saying that when he apologized for his choice of for his choice of
[01:43:23] language uh early this year, we hoped a lesson had been learned clear.
[01:43:27] they say it has not, we find his latest comments deeply disappointing and
[01:43:31] completely unacceptable, they go to say that he should resign from his
[01:43:35] position, now I'm not really sure that they understand how thing these things work, because he
[01:43:38] owns, he owns 1.2, one over
[01:43:42] billion pounds worth of shares in the club, you'd have to sell them to move on,
[01:43:45] that it's not an easy set of shares to um to get rid of or dispose of
[01:43:49] are they, but nonetheless Manchester United are action today against against Fullham and
[01:43:52] there's no sign of him backtracking uh as yet, I guess from the players point of view they'll
[01:43:56] say, well it's... at least it's a diversionary tactic away from what's happening on the pitch because they've not made very
[01:44:00] good start to the season

[01:48:28] with this story about um Britain
[01:48:30] facing uh please, the Caribbean
[01:48:34] reparation, slavery reparation. Yes, and the quick
[01:48:37] clip notes version would be the UK's races. uh, but the greater
[01:48:41] detail is that the Caribbean states now looking a way of trying to bring a lawsuit.
[01:48:45] now the thing, the reason it couldn't be brought before is because we've got an exemption from the international court
[01:48:49] of justice, which means any issue that dates before
[01:48:52] 1987, we can't be sued over. oh, which the
[01:48:56] slavery abolished technically in 1834. however, they wanted sews for racial
[01:49:00] discrimination, which definitely you can argue still goes on, but you'd have to frame that court
[01:49:03] case differently. mean, when you're i'm not a lawyer and i don't understand
[01:49:07] all the details in the treaty that this talks about, you get the feeling this is more about
[01:49:11] raising the issue to have debate rather than this will be successful court
[01:49:14] case and the the UN says that we should be paying um
[01:49:18] reparations but it's a thing that can be ignored but then we could have
[01:49:21] ignored over. 'there are also only make lawyers rich because there are all
[01:49:25] sorts of um counter arguments aren't there i yeah
[01:49:28] i don't agree with you 100%
[01:49:29] i think carry com the kind of community these caribbean nations are pretty serious
[01:49:33] about this the um prime minister what's her name sorry i don't have
[01:49:37] the article in front of me who me and molly yeah who's always been very
[01:49:41] warmly welcomed here and you know kind of comes to these commonwealth events and i
[01:49:45] think the country have taken her seriously um it's
[01:49:49] really serious about this she says you know we need to go from being kind of campaigning about this
[01:49:53] to being advocates in this case, you really really want these millions,
[01:49:57] presumably billions from the UK for what we
[01:50:00] did what for what allegedly happened hundreds of years
[01:50:03] ago, and what about the lives we lost actually trying to fix slave, fixing
[01:50:07] it, and we're not the only nation who did things differently centuries
[01:50:11] ago, I mean this kind of it's this rehashing
[01:50:15] the past, it's this endless kind of pearl clutching about
[01:50:19] things that may that we wouldn't do now that we did then. 'yeah,
[01:50:23] language that we might not have used, that we wouldn't use now, that we use back
[01:50:26] then, times were different, it should fully open the flood gates to have
[01:50:30] the full discussion, because yes you have to discuss about the UK's role in
[01:50:34] slavery and the UK's role in ending slavery, which benefits the entire world,
[01:50:38] what's the, is there a price associated that, and also other slaveries, the ones that are still
[01:50:42] going on, the ones the Romans did, you have to include everything in the discussion rather than let's just
[01:50:46] pick on this bit so we can get some reparation, but that's what I mean, it would only make
[01:50:50] lawyers rich, it really would, oh yeah, this stuff will go on for
[01:50:54] decades, won't it? of course, human rights lawyers in particular,
[01:50:58] absolutely. emma, let's go to a subject I know you feel very strongly about
[01:51:01] it's in the times about the parents who have invented a
[01:51:05] landline for children, I do feel extremely strongly about this, and if I can just mention
[01:51:09] I've just finished my new book which is literally all about what on earth
[01:51:13] is going wrong for young people, and I think part of that, there's lots that's going
[01:51:17] wrong for young people, but these ballooning anxiety disorders,
[01:51:21] social you selective. autism, ADHD, the overdiagnosis, all
[01:51:25] of that, woke parenting, gentle parenting, woke education, the
[01:51:28] book is called the kids are not all right, which is nord to the who song, the kids
[01:51:32] are available yet, yeah, it's literally, i think it's being published tomorrow, monday,
[01:51:36] yeah, congratulations, yeah, so that's very exciting, but it and i think this spans
[01:51:40] the whole age range from from not to 18, i think we have babies who are hooked
[01:51:44] to screens, so a big part of this is about screens and about screen
[01:51:48] addiction, and so this story is trying to get to the
[01:51:51] root of, "you know, every every child needs a smartphone to stay in
[01:51:55] touch with their to stay in touch with their friends, and these the group of parents
[01:51:59] have invented a landline, and honestly when I was writing my
[01:52:02] book, the fun and the memories of growing up in the
[01:52:06] 90s, talking to people up in the 80's and the 70s and the 60's
[01:52:10] and falling off climbing frames and going out all day, just being
[01:52:14] out all day, you got back from school, you took the school uniform
[01:52:18] off and you played out until it was time, until it was time to come in for your
[01:52:21] tea." then you went and then you you know you talked to your family, you
[01:52:25] interacted with people, you played with the neighborhood kids and yeah it wasn't safe,
[01:52:29] but it was heck of lot safer than being online,
[01:52:32] isolated, socially anxious in your room with eating
[01:52:36] disorders, anxiety disorders, unable to make eye contact, i honestly
[01:52:40] think we've lost the plot with children, and i think this addiction, and we have to be
[01:52:44] honest, it's an addiction for us, but for children, it's
[01:52:47] an addiction and it's changing the nature their brains, it's very
[01:52:51] difficult to... Yeah, you are, if teenagers can't
[01:52:55] communicate with their friends, how do we take whatsapp away from them, how do we take everything away
[01:52:59] from them? What do we going to do? Where is this all going? Because if they
[01:53:03] can't be in the human world,
[01:53:05] you know, then we have levels of obesity and everything increasing, and it's
[01:53:09] bad for and blindness. I mean, myopia in young children,
[01:53:13] because they're not outside, they're not seeing the full spectrum of daylight, they're
[01:53:16] not looking at the sky and the blue,
[01:53:19] you know, the the birdies and
[01:53:20] the and the green trees and all of that. It's a real real
[01:53:24] movement, I think it's particularly strong um in Norway, Sweden,
[01:53:27] Finland, for outdoor teaching, for
[01:53:31] taking lessons out the classroom and out into the woods or
[01:53:34] something with teachers, still doing, still doing English, when I was choosing a
[01:53:38] primary school for Ludo, I went through every primary school and I said what's
[01:53:42] your screen policy, and even now, and he lives a tech free, screen free
[01:53:46] household with me, I grew up without television, he's not having television, he's not having
[01:53:50] all of that, and every school said to... 'oh no, there's not much screen time, and of course it
[01:53:54] creeps in, and he's six years old and he's coming home with login
[01:53:58] for google classroom, I don't want to bring a child back from school
[01:54:02] and put him in front of a screen, so very quickly,
[01:54:04] what is this, what is this landline? yeah, this is a landline, they've kind of
[01:54:07] reinvented it, it's called uh Yapa, and you pay quite a lot, it's
[01:54:11] quite expensive,
[01:54:12] there's a subscription service, and it means that kids can communicate
[01:54:16] with other kids a sort of a phone that looks like an old
[01:54:20] landline phone,
[01:54:21] you know landlines are being totally phased out from January, yeah, all the
[01:54:25] copper, all the copper and everything, in January all the landlines in the UK will go
[01:54:29] digital, and the remaining copper analog landline which have been used for decades, will
[01:54:33] be retired by telecoms company. ever about this subject, i
[01:54:36] feel so strongly, but we will get you to talk about the book,

[02:00:24] a snap general election? there are rumors uh that he is
[02:00:27] thinking about it. yeah, Andy Burenham may
[02:00:31] well be considering a general election the next year as he seeks
[02:00:35] a mandate to guess what, raise
[02:00:38] taxes. well, with warnings that the disability benefits
[02:00:42] bill will double to 45 billion by 2030,
[02:00:45] the tories have accused..." the government of failing to tackle the
[02:00:49] rise in worklessness, but could labor's failure to act actually
[02:00:53] be part of a grand plan to bring in votes ahead of a snap
[02:00:56] election.
[02:01:01] well, here in Brighton at the Liberal Democrat
[02:01:04] conference, some MPs are worried about the party quote sliding
[02:01:08] into irrelevance, but if Andy Burnham decides to call that snap
[02:01:12] election and loses his majority, the Liberal
[02:01:15] Democrats could well... be thinking about going into
[02:01:19] coalition with them, so not so irrelevant in that
[02:01:22] case, and the
[02:01:26] bitter war of words engulfing the house of winter and
[02:01:29] spencer uh the king allies uh
[02:01:33] label erol spencer, a hypocrite for profiting
[02:01:37] from Diana's death. can you imagine anybody making a profit at their
[02:01:41] brother or sister's death? it's so low, it's
[02:01:44] inconceivable. i will never profit from
[02:01:48] but Ell
[02:01:49] is death, Spencer is now fighting back, accusing King Charles of gas lighting
[02:01:53] him, and then he said, we'll forget her soon
[02:01:57] enough.

[02:02:05] he resumes his tour after his support acts quit in
[02:02:09] solidarity with the rapper McLamor and his pro-
[02:02:13] palestine comments. I don't want to disappoint fans

[02:03:40] a bit earlier about the fact that this the drought during the
[02:03:43] summer um has really affected the plight of Robins.
[02:03:47] uh and we all want to see them around Christmas, don't we? i like
[02:03:50] to see them any time the year, but um, apparently Robins, they that's
[02:03:54] why they come out when you're in the garden and you're doing the gardening, because they love to um,
[02:03:58] they love freshly raked earth, because that's where all the worms come up and they
[02:04:02] like those sort of things, meal worms particularly apparently, but of
[02:04:05] course with the drought the the ground was so hard they could that
[02:04:09] didn't happen for them uh, plus the drout was also affecting bugs
[02:04:13] generally, which haven't done so well, um, and so Robins are really very...
[02:04:17] very um hard up this winter and there're going to be fewer
[02:04:21] them, they normally have three families year, which is why I've always wondered why my
[02:04:25] Robins are always nesting because I've got a lot of robins in my garden, so I was - I
[02:04:29] was doing the trying to because the drought, I was thinking of putting a bird
[02:04:32] bathh in the garden, so I just put huge old salad bowl and put it in the
[02:04:36] garden, and it certainly attracted Robin straight away, I did manage to get a
[02:04:40] little bit of a video of Robin in my garden having a bath, um,
[02:04:44] so let's just have look
[02:04:45] at that now, if you've got any... similar, put a bird bath in the
[02:04:49] garden,
[02:04:51] that's adorable, yeah, isn't it? fantastic, it's just having a lovely time, and
[02:04:55] it really was having a really enjoying the water, it's interesting,
[02:04:58] during the drought the... you know there were appeals uh
[02:05:02] to put out water for wildlife because
[02:05:06] clearly the traditional uh sources of water just all
[02:05:10] dried up so yeah you can understand while they be making a b
[02:05:14] line for for your bowl well yeah and apparently they do
[02:05:18] love the meal worms and you can buy dried meal worms from a
[02:05:21] bird food manufacturer um and uh one of
[02:05:25] our lovely viewers was saying what she does is she goes and sprinkles them
[02:05:29] out over the soil every day or every other day
[02:05:32] um and I think probably Robins really need that sort of support at the
[02:05:36] moment and do other creatures not go for that then uh donnucks
[02:05:40] also go with it now I had to look up what a donnuck is um and it's a
[02:05:44] small like a hedge sparrow they're not actually sparrows but that's what they look
[02:05:48] like um and the good thing about putting out the dried meal worms
[02:05:52] or something is that squirrels don't go for that so you're not going to be
[02:05:56] attracting rats and squirrels you will actually be feeding the birds did you say you're...
[02:06:00] associated the Robin Red breast with Christmas, yeah, yeah, is that right? I did know
[02:06:03] that, yeah, you normally see them, oh yes,
[02:06:07] I do actually, yeah, old school Christmas cards, yeah, people don't really
[02:06:10] say, they are about, I mean, if they're in your garden or they're near you, oh, apparently
[02:06:14] the RSPB is very keen on um, trying to take,
[02:06:18] you know, survey how many are around, uh, if you go to
[02:06:22] um, it's called, it's an app called bird track
[02:06:26] or via the garden bird watch survey, um,
[02:06:30] see if you can find out about it and if if you've got any robins to report and I have
[02:06:33] um it'd be quite good for to make sure that our robins are doing
[02:06:37] well cuz it would be terrible if they weren't. I always thought they were a migratory
[02:06:41] bird though because I never recall growing up seeing
[02:06:45] Robin Red breast in the summer months or mine are at
[02:06:49] all yeah yeah they're lovely it's lovely to see them and it's
[02:06:52] a feeding them uh with without attracting rats and things if
[02:06:56] feeding them helps then that's nice thing to do.
[02:07:00] certainly put out power water for them. now should we get down to
[02:07:03] politics? because the prime minister is apparently plotting early
[02:07:07] election. there are very strong indications, they say that Andy Burnham wants
[02:07:11] to hold a snap election in the next year because he wants a mandate of
[02:07:15] his own to raise taxes. well, that says Britain
[02:07:19] is expected to spend 19 billion pounds more
[02:07:23] each year on disability benefits by the end the
[02:07:26] decade after Andy Burenam refused to tack. call the
[02:07:30] balloning welfare bill uh apparently in his upcoming budget, well we
[02:07:34] shall see, I suppose
[02:07:35] of course the critic - the the critices, I say the
[02:07:38] conservatives have criticized his failure to act accusing labor
[02:07:42] once again of putting social security over national
[02:07:46] security. well GB News political correspondent
[02:07:50] Katherine Fosteruh joins us now from the lib
[02:07:53] dem conference in Brighton, in Brighton,
[02:07:56] yeah uh the weather looks okay there today. um,
[02:08:00] how's uh, fairing, is he
[02:08:04] expecting, do you think the possibility of a snap
[02:08:08] election?
[02:08:12] well, they won't say it out loud, but i think that it is clearly the
[02:08:15] liberal democrats hope that they might get back into
[02:08:19] government via a coalition, they did it uh with the tories in
[02:08:23] um 2010 to 2015, that alway almost destroyed
[02:08:27] them, didn't it, that and the pledge a scrap. tuition fees and then
[02:08:31] voting uh to triple it. um, if Andy
[02:08:34] Burnham does call early election, and we don't know that this is going to
[02:08:38] happen, that's what the daily mail are saying, but I don't imagine that uh, the
[02:08:42] Daily Mail would be the first port of call for uh scoops like this, but we know they're
[02:08:46] considering all options, um, then it could well be that
[02:08:50] labor does not keep its majority, there's no really good options
[02:08:54] for Andy Burnham uh, because if he goes through till
[02:08:58] 2029, he's hemmed in by the manifesto
[02:09:02] uh pledges not to raise the three big taxes income tax
[02:09:05] uh national insurance on employees and
[02:09:09] that and we know that the government is very short of money, we
[02:09:13] know that uh our energy bills are likely to go up in
[02:09:17] January um because the war in Iran, the global situation
[02:09:21] is increasingly perilous, all these
[02:09:24] dire warnings uh from other European countries about what
[02:09:28] Russia is up to already. and possibly
[02:09:31] planning, so the situation may get
[02:09:34] worse if he leaves it, at the moment he's coming, he's
[02:09:38] had a bit of bounce in the polls, um, people seem
[02:09:42] to like him, he communicates like normal person, but
[02:09:46] is it enough of bounce to risk
[02:09:50] losing the job that he has wanted for well, well over
[02:09:54] decade, he got it on the third time of trying
[02:09:57] at the moment, depending on what poll you look at. um labor might
[02:10:01] be few points above reform,
[02:10:03] in some they are neck-and- neeck, but I think unless they
[02:10:06] were sort of 30% plus and well
[02:10:09] um, for maybe by seven or
[02:10:13] eight points for a period of time um it would seem to
[02:10:17] a massive massive gamble but if he
[02:10:21] took it if he got a majority however slim he could
[02:10:24] then say look the world has changed it's much more dangerous
[02:10:28] russia the war in Iran etc etc I'm really sorry but we're going to have to
[02:10:32] put up um income tax it's very difficult
[02:10:36] raising taxes um when you've ruled out the sort of three biggest
[02:10:40] tax raises which account for about two. almost of
[02:10:44] total tax take, just ask Rachel Reeves
[02:10:47] uh and the trouble that they got into over inheritance tax for
[02:10:51] farmers and other things, so very tricky for Andy
[02:10:55] Burnham, um, if he does it and fall
[02:10:59] shy of a uh majority, the Liberal Democrats
[02:11:02] would be the most obvious partners, he's
[02:11:05] got a lot in common with davy, they work together um in the
[02:11:09] coalition government, they're both passionate about so... care, so
[02:11:13] I think the Liberal Democrats will be hopeful, but Ed Davy was
[02:11:17] speaking to the true believers here at conference last night, let's have look
[02:11:21] at some of what he had to say, so conference,
[02:11:25] so conference, what will they hear,
[02:11:29] we care, we fight, we
[02:11:32] care, we fight, we care, we
[02:11:36] fight, that's right, so thank you, Conference, have a
[02:11:40] great one. 'Yeah, he tried to get the
[02:11:44] hall sort of chanting that, I'm not sure that it worked and
[02:11:48] particularly well, we care and we fight um quite
[02:11:51] incongruous uh together, but he made a speech
[02:11:55] bashing Trump uh, bashing Nigel Farage and reform,
[02:11:59] as you would expect, talking about nasty populism, I
[02:12:03] think he called it, Trump in America, um, the
[02:12:06] AFD in Germany, Marine Lepen in France,
[02:12:10] basically saying this is not who Britain is'. "we are
[02:12:13] better than that, but
[02:12:15] you know they've got 71 MPs at the moment, they've got,
[02:12:18] I think more council seats than ever, but we don't
[02:12:22] hear that much from them, and there are
[02:12:25] rumblings that perhaps a better another leader might
[02:12:29] do better, I have to say I don't think that's going to happen given that there
[02:12:32] could be early election, and if so, so Ed Davy's experience
[02:12:36] and government um, would would certainly give him an
[02:12:40] advantage there, certainly, I mean." " 'last time they joined a
[02:12:43] coalition um they they came out of it not
[02:12:47] well and very anti-coalition, they they took the blame
[02:12:51] for lot of what maybe the tourists should have shared some blame for. i don't think
[02:12:55] whether they'd be very keen to go into another
[02:12:58] coalition?
[02:13:02] well maybe not, but the thing is that if you're not in government you can shout from the
[02:13:06] sideelines as long as as much as you want, but you can't really change uh
[02:13:10] things, i think they might attach conditions, they'. very keen on proportional
[02:13:13] representation, of course they might attach referendum on that,
[02:13:17] they had the um alternative vote, i think was a condition of
[02:13:21] going to coalition with the jories, but yes, you're right, they got very badly
[02:13:24] burnt, um, tuition fees of course, nick kleg had
[02:13:28] pledged to abolish them and then voted with the tories
[02:13:32] to triple them, that was - very, very big
[02:13:36] mistake that they were punished with for a long time, and also um, they
[02:13:40] did not get credit for any the good things that the coalition. government did for example the raising the
[02:13:44] personal allowence to PS2 and half thous pounds. that was liberal
[02:13:47] democrat policy. they got very little credit, the tories
[02:13:51] hoved up all the credit uh for that. and i think when the deal was
[02:13:55] originally done, i think it might have been ian duncan smith or was it forget who,
[02:13:59] but a tory bigwig went back apparently and said to his wife, um, we have
[02:14:02] just destroyed the liberal democrats and so it proved five years
[02:14:06] later when they were absolutely
[02:14:09] decimated uh at that general election and the... leader Nick
[02:14:13] Klegg lost his seat, so uh once bitten, twice shy, but
[02:14:17] I suspect that the labor would much prefer a coalition
[02:14:20] with uh the sensible liberal democrats than the
[02:14:24] green party under Zack Polansky who they're trying to
[02:14:28] neutralize with some the moves that Andy Burnham has made since he's
[02:14:31] been in government. Well, Katherine, don't stay too long out there in the breeze,
[02:14:35] it does look a bit nippy, but it's nice to see the sea behind you. Thank

[02:14:43] stories now coming into the GB News room, well the government has launched a
[02:14:46] national task force to tackle misogyny as part of labor's
[02:14:50] pledge to harve violence against women and girls within a
[02:14:54] decade. the initiative will focus on tackling harmful attitudes
[02:14:58] online in schools, workplaces and
[02:15:00] communities. Scotland's first minister will
[02:15:04] call on MSPs to unanimously back Scotland's right
[02:15:08] to decide its own future a vote at Hollywood next.
[02:15:12] week, John Swinny says support for self-determination is
[02:15:16] growing and Westminster's opposition to referendum is
[02:15:20] becoming unsustainable. The move follows a joint
[02:15:23] declaration by the. leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern
[02:15:27] Ireland, calling for greater
[02:15:29] powers and at Sharon has apologized to
[02:15:33] fans for making mistakes during his solo show in
[02:15:36] Philadelphia. He said promoters, not him, decided to remove the
[02:15:40] rapper McLamore from the tour, but he apologized for how he's handled the
[02:15:43] controversy. Shiran called the October 7th Hamas led
[02:15:47] attacks horrific, and also described Israel's treatment of people
[02:15:51] in Gaza as catastrophic and unjustifiable.
[02:16:00] 'I didn't look too breezy down in Brighton, I thought it
[02:16:04] breezy, but then you'd get that on the coast actually, for the

[02:17:07] and bright start to the day. Well, we'll see some rain is across Scotland, still a bit
[02:17:11] blustery here to start the day, but soon winds will ease away and most the
[02:17:15] showers clearing across Scotland as well. So actually, for many of us, it should
[02:17:19] be dry bright end to the weekend, plenty of sunshine, and although
[02:17:22] temperatures are touchdown compared to... yesterday with lighter winds and more
[02:17:26] sunshine, it should feel rather pleasant for us all. temperatures widely in the mid
[02:17:30] to high teens, if not the low 20's across eastern and southeast
[02:17:34] England. now to finish off the day, we could start to
[02:17:38] see a bit more clouds start to feed through across areas of Scotland, perhaps still the
[02:17:41] odd light shower just pushing through into the northern is, but much
[02:17:45] lighter winds compared to what we saw yesterday afternoon, a little bit of cloud
[02:17:49] just pushing into northern Ireland, perhaps northern and northwest England, but

[02:19:08] morning of gaslighting him after suggesting that his memoir is
[02:19:12] clouded by grief. yes, princess Diana's brother is
[02:19:16] claiming Charles sounded giddy allated after
[02:19:20] her death and alleged allegedly said that she would be
[02:19:24] forgotten so... enough. In response, King Charles's allies have
[02:19:28] accused El Spencer of cashing in on her
[02:19:31] death. Well, and when you think about it, we've played that clip throughout the
[02:19:35] morning, uh, where years ago he said he can't imagine anything worse
[02:19:38] than cashing in, yeah, and or making profit, profiting
[02:19:42] from, um, his sister's death, hasn't he just done
[02:19:46] that? Maybe he's going to give it all to charity and uh, I don't think so,
[02:19:49] somehow, but um, and he would deny that it's cashing in, he just
[02:19:53] wants to have his say. "but I bet he isn't going to turn the check down
[02:19:57] anyway, we're joined by royal writer and photographer Ian Lloyd who's
[02:20:01] photographed the Royals over many years, what what's your
[02:20:04] gut feeling about what's happened here, Earl Spencer sort of
[02:20:08] dredging up all these - true or untrue
[02:20:12] all these awful things that happened in the past? well, I
[02:20:16] feel very sorry for the king, because the king is 78 in two months
[02:20:20] time, he's still having a treatment for cancer and
[02:20:23] um, he's had..." problem with Andrew and the team case
[02:20:27] and then Prince Harry and the sussexes
[02:20:30] and next month he's off to antiga
[02:20:34] and buda which will probably start the whole thing.
[02:20:37] about colonialism and reparations, so he's not having easy ride is
[02:20:41] he? no, so I feel very very disappointed about
[02:20:45] this, but I was there one on the day that Diana died, I was at
[02:20:49] REF northol and when her body came back to to
[02:20:53] Britain and I saw the then Prince Charles,
[02:20:55] and he certainly wasn't elated like he was he won the
[02:20:59] lottery, he was very pale and composed and having to be royal and
[02:21:02] greet the lord lieutenant and greet, I think the prime minister was there, I think Tony Bler, there's
[02:21:06] a lot of... digitaries and I think you know this is the day his his wife died and he
[02:21:10] had to fly to um his former wife because he had to fly to Paris and and and
[02:21:14] bring her back so he he kind of did his duty that day and he
[02:21:18] wasn't uh behaving like somebody who who had won the
[02:21:21] lottery no I mean you can't help wonder of course we won't
[02:21:24] know um because they remember it differently but also I
[02:21:28] mean giddily elated doesn't sound like the man that
[02:21:32] we we heard about later in that he fought very
[02:21:36] hard with the queen. to take the royal flight to go and collect Diana's
[02:21:40] body and bring it her home um and and he was
[02:21:43] um he absolutely didn't he
[02:21:46] it is said that he snapped at the queen you know oh would you prefer that she came back a
[02:21:49] Harold's van you know it absolutely and and you
[02:21:53] can maybe shock and the fact that he wasn't very good at
[02:21:57] expressing himself in those days really and didn't come across as the most
[02:22:00] sensitive human being maybe that was mistakenly interpreted as giddi
[02:22:04] elellation by Earl Spencer but I can't imagine ever
[02:22:08] being elated anyone's death? no,
[02:22:12] I mean, four years ago, my mom died in my arms and I was the only
[02:22:16] one there, I was the only relation and and no friends or anything, and
[02:22:20] I just remember having this afterwards, this surge
[02:22:23] of elation, which was actually,
[02:22:24] I think, adrenaline rush
[02:22:26] that that the body does to protect itself, but for several days I
[02:22:30] was a bit of a kind of high, obviously I wasn't, I was grieving, but
[02:22:34] it's how it came out, and I remember having a perfectly normal. conversation with somebody
[02:22:38] about an hour later, um,
[02:22:41] you know, grief is very, very weird, it, it,
[02:22:43] you know, attacks people in different ways, and the prince, prince Charles would be thinking of
[02:22:47] his sons, what is going to happen, he would also be thinking, oh god, I'm in this terrible
[02:22:51] situation where I'm going to be billified, because at the
[02:22:55] time everybody adored Diana and so on, so lot of complex
[02:22:59] things would be going through his mind, so you could understand if he
[02:23:02] he sounded a bit peculiar on the phone, if that was the case,
[02:23:06] you know, so I mean is this case of revenge is
[02:23:10] dish best served cold
[02:23:12] in this case of course very very cold so many years
[02:23:15] after the fact yeah
[02:23:18] I don't
[02:23:19] what it is because I mean his last book was about his school days and again he
[02:23:22] he um he really it's a marvelous read I have to say but he really
[02:23:26] tore into his his um his
[02:23:30] school and he's pasted in that way and other people apparently
[02:23:34] said in I remember reading in the paper other people had different views.
[02:23:38] um he's obviously bringing back the past and and as you say it's completely ironic
[02:23:42] because um the Spencers and Prince William issued
[02:23:46] statements when Paul Burel and Diana's protection officer
[02:23:50] Ken warf and then Patrick Jefferson the private secretary they all wrote
[02:23:53] books and and the family was was was horrified about
[02:23:57] trading in on her memory and he he seems to have done that done that I don't think
[02:24:01] Diana would be um what's what did he say jumping from the rafters
[02:24:04] what's the expression um yeah, because she
[02:24:08] um, she one of her things was to protect the
[02:24:11] monarchy for for williams, so I think she would want the the monarchy to
[02:24:15] stay strong, and I think this would be uh, I think she'd be quite

[02:29:01] now, Texas is apparently slamming the breaks on what critics
[02:29:04] fear could become an American surveillance state.
[02:29:08] Well, at the center the route are flock
[02:29:12] cameras. Never heard them? Well, apparently they can track
[02:29:16] pretty much every car that passes and then store the details in
[02:29:20] searchable database. Ben Leo has this
[02:29:23] report. Any guesses what one the biggest issues dividing America right
[02:29:27] now is immigration, groceries, inflation, maybe the war in
[02:29:31] Iran. No, one the biggest issues is
[02:29:34] car cameras, vehicle cameras on the road, like this one, called
[02:29:38] flock cameras. They are a little bit bigger than your typical ring doorbell in the
[02:29:42] UK. And the controversy is that one side the argument says,
[02:29:46] oh, they're great for keeping us safe, they can track criminals, they share data with...
[02:29:50] these forces, the other side is more on civil liberties, it's an
[02:29:54] invasion of privacy, it breaches they argue constitutional rights,
[02:29:58] and why should motorists have their data stored, their pictures, their
[02:30:02] number plates, even dents in their car be stored at the hands of
[02:30:06] private corporations. i spoke to dylan oliver, the deputy director of
[02:30:09] marketing at the alliance of secure AI to understand the
[02:30:13] arguments against flock cameras. so they're scanning every identifiable
[02:30:17] feature these vehicles that they possibly can find. bumps, scratches
[02:30:21] and dents. Floch Safety is a private company, they
[02:30:24] are operating on numerous uh government contracts all across the
[02:30:28] United States, so what we're looking at right now is 120,00
[02:30:32] these spread out across hundreds of municipalities across the US, and
[02:30:36] just in August alone, 90 municipalities canceled their contract with
[02:30:40] Flock Safety because they have so many concerns about our constitutional rights and there's
[02:30:44] also been many cases of misuse with these as well. These are
[02:30:48] scanning about 20 billion entries. a month, they have about a 7%
[02:30:52] error rate along with that as well, so we're looking at about 1.4 billion these
[02:30:55] entries that are being scanned as we speak right now, are actually false,
[02:30:59] they're they're saying that something bad has happened, maybe it's a... stolen vehicle, for
[02:31:03] example, in Los Angeles, one and three stolen vehicle
[02:31:06] alerts that these cameras made right here were false, and that's a
[02:31:10] waste of police officers time, so what we're looking at is people are getting pulled
[02:31:14] over, people are being held at gunpoint for crimes they're not actually committing. there was a
[02:31:18] grandmother from Tennessee who was put in jail in North Dakota. It was a state she'd
[02:31:22] never visited in her entire life, but because the high-powered AI technology that
[02:31:26] we're seeing here with these cameras, it was able to identify her face, or
[02:31:30] so it thought, and it put her in jail in North Dakota. place she'd never been in her life, she had
[02:31:34] to be in jail for four months while the trial was being
[02:31:36] processed. this is what President
[02:31:40] Trump thinks of flot cameras, sort of like them because of that,
[02:31:44] because of law enforcement, but some people don't, they think it's an
[02:31:47] infringement, they help catch lot of
[02:31:50] criminals, so that was the president, but I wanted to find out
[02:31:54] what real Americans think, they are um
[02:31:57] privately owned, being used by private companies, but also
[02:32:01] a government. and also being misused by governments,
[02:32:05] so I think that's the fear, right? people can see who is in
[02:32:09] your car and where you're going and at what time? um, and
[02:32:13] there's just a complete lack of privacy. uh, well yeah, it's not much different than a cell phone
[02:32:17] in your pocket, but guess these ones are worse cuz they can track you better,
[02:32:20] but i don't think they're going to get through at the moment because uh, it's a private
[02:32:24] company, so politicians will be affected by him too,
[02:32:28] so that's the only reason why there's any pushback at the moment that's working, the concern
[02:32:32] is... privacy, the more and more that we give anyone
[02:32:35] access to things that we don't have control over, then we
[02:32:39] lose our privacy, and we lose control
[02:32:41] of who we are and what people do with that information. flock safety told us a
[02:32:45] statement that the claimed LPR technology collects sensitive
[02:32:49] information such as names or addresses, was simply not
[02:32:52] true. a statement they said our LPR system does not have
[02:32:56] access to those types of personal identifiers. in fact, the cameras only see
[02:33:00] vehicle license plates and vehicle... characteristics, all things that are
[02:33:04] public information in the plane view, they added, this ensures
[02:33:08] that privacy protections are deeply embedded in how our systems
[02:33:11] function, it's another one
[02:33:15] of those technologicological things that will be good one day when they get it
[02:33:18] right, well mean the thing is we're we're we're ahead
[02:33:21] them, yeah we're the
[02:33:25] most one the world's most surveiled states, there's no doubt about it,
[02:33:29] we've got ANPR cameras, automatic number plate re. ignition
[02:33:32] cameras uh throughout sort of main centers of
[02:33:36] population and main uh roots, you've got the cameras, it makes
[02:33:40] anyone feeling you say for that, well no, but they're great revenue

[02:50:26] London without being caught on CCTV, clipping,
[02:50:30] infringing a bus lane by half millimeter, by
[02:50:34] you know getting a penalty notice, fich fixed charge notice, going through a ulez
[02:50:38] zone, ulez plus, is spreading everywhere,
[02:50:42] the DVLA have received this year, to the sort of year to
[02:50:45] date, they've received 52 million requests
[02:50:49] for personal data, for your personal details of drivers, and and
[02:50:53] last year it was 44 million, and there's only
[02:50:56] been a 1.5 increase in drivers registering their their details,
[02:51:00] so the increase year-on-year the
[02:51:03] amount of penalties, fines, restrictions that drivers are being
[02:51:07] slapped with is just astonishing. 'and it's you know councils are
[02:51:11] using this, they're using the yellow boxes and the bus lanes and
[02:51:15] all the different things that you can and can't do and the box junctions sorry and
[02:51:18] the you know that the um low congestion zones and all of that to
[02:51:22] limit and limit and limit and fine you for doing anything a car behind a wheel.
[02:51:26] well we were just saying Steve before we were watching Ben Leo's
[02:51:30] report from the US with the very concerned about the increasing
[02:51:34] use of cameras there and capturing data, we're way ahead them,
[02:51:38] we're taking all these..." number plates, and as Emma
[02:51:41] said, you know, DVLA are getting requests for uh
[02:51:45] details so they can slap fine on you, yeah, I wish I could use some GDPR
[02:51:49] rule to stop the DVLA giving out my home address. just because they can see my
[02:51:53] car registration number because it's just it is license to print money. i'm even more
[02:51:57] appleed at things like the the Dartford crossing where nearly i think half the money it
[02:52:01] makes is through the fines rather than the charge. when you've built into your
[02:52:04] business model the fact that most of your money comes from people not been able to pay
[02:52:08] online quickly and easily then it becomes even more of a scam. it's you it's annoying
[02:52:12] that it's what three pounds or something to go over it now but the fact that you get the fine the next day if
[02:52:16] you don't do it that it's the stealth stealth tax we all know about stealth taxes
[02:52:20] and VAT and these things this the way of getting money from people
[02:52:24] out of our pockets without us being able to do anything about it cuz you know some some of us have
[02:52:28] to drive to places and the next thing you've been f and cars are very very
[02:52:31] expensive things to own and run even yeah even without going into a box
[02:52:35] everything tell me about it other people who are being fleased by the sound of
[02:52:39] it are people who go to pubs because nowadays more pubs are
[02:52:42] expecting you to tip yep it's they're
[02:52:46] adopting the american attitude to tipping we've copied enough from
[02:52:50] america could we stop that please but this is a one three pubs now pressuring
[02:52:54] people to tip because the contact list things in and this is going to trigger my
[02:52:58] northerness where i just don't like the idea of this being pressure to tip and you have to say no
[02:53:01] thanks yeah exactly you have to opt out and people are all looking
[02:53:05] at you
[02:53:07] a big judged you don't want to stare at it and really scrutinize the amount and you're not
[02:53:11] really sure you know but there there's a big part of me that thinks i'd have pulled it myself if if you let

[02:53:23] pressed the thing and you handed it to me, why would you get tip for that level of service?

[02:53:34] price, they're tricking you, exactly, they're tricking you into a price increase out of politeness

[02:53:46] really nice people, locals, would always buy a pint, and I was

[02:53:53] just think, give a couple of quid instead, have about seven points lined
[02:53:57] up that i wasn't going to touch under the bar by the end the evening, you
[02:54:01] know, leave a pound coin, yeah, it was different when you could actually have the coin which you know
[02:54:05] what you're getting rid of, what you're giving, whereas that kind of i've tapped a button, didn't realize what
[02:54:09] i pressed, beep and the money's gone, goes to the well, so the whole issue with service
[02:54:13] charge on your bill at restaurant, you know you just don't know, you have to
[02:54:17] ask the waiter, do you actually
[02:54:20] get, and again it looks so... tight-fisted to be
[02:54:23] scrutinizing and checking exactly what you're being paid and asking questions, but it
[02:54:27] becomes tax on politeness then doesn't it? and do we want to get rid of if you tax something you normally want to

[03:00:21] after all? well, there is growing evidence that Andy
[03:00:24] Burnham is considering a general election in the next
[03:00:28] year, as he seeks a mandate to, yes, you've guessed it, raise
[03:00:32] taxes. with warnings that the disability. benefits bill will
[03:00:36] double to 45 billion by 2030. the
[03:00:40] conservatives accused the government of failing to tackle the rise in
[03:00:43] worklessness, but could labor's failure to act actually be part
[03:00:47] of a grand plan to bring in votes because they're going to call a snap
[03:00:51] election. well here
[03:00:55] in Brighton, it's the lib dem conference, the moment in the
[03:00:58] spotlight, if Andy Burnham did call that general election
[03:01:02] and failed to get majority, could the Liberal Democrats
[03:01:06] potentially be back a coalition government, but this time with

[03:04:58] election? uh, they say there are very strong indications that he
[03:05:02] is uh, because he needs to now, given the financial
[03:05:05] crisis facing him, um, and the fact that he wants to pay
[03:05:09] lots of bills, actually, how else is he going to raise the money? he wants his
[03:05:13] mandate to raise taxes. well, this of course comes -
[03:05:17] is expected, we're told to spend 19 billion more
[03:05:21] each year on disability benefits by the end of
[03:05:25] this decade. now after Andy Buurnam apparently
[03:05:29] refused to tackle the balloon welfare bill, we're told in the
[03:05:32] upcoming budget. well, the critic, the conservatives,
[03:05:36] sorry, have been uh keen to criticize his failure to act, they're
[03:05:40] accusing labor once again of putting social security over national
[03:05:43] security. well, is it all part of a grander?
[03:05:47] plan to take us into a general election. Let's cross to
[03:05:51] Catherine Forster, GB News's chief political correspondent who's on the
[03:05:55] beaches of Brighton because that's where the Lib D conference is
[03:05:58] underway. Morning Catherine, I mean,
[03:06:00] are they talking about um the likelihood of a snap
[03:06:04] general election at all in conference
[03:06:06] today?
[03:06:09] Well, behind the scenes conversations are being had. Davey
[03:06:13] said to broadcasters yesterday that they...
[03:06:17] uh will be ready basically for this general election whenever it
[03:06:21] comes, they believe that they are in good shape with their 71
[03:06:25] um MPs, although I have to say they are languishing in the polls at just 10 or
[03:06:29] 11 uh percent, they have gone down in the polls, though they would say
[03:06:33] look we've got more counselors uh than ever before and they tend to be very
[03:06:37] efficient um in targeting their seats
[03:06:40] and getting lot of bang for their but if you like uh
[03:06:44] with their votes, but this speculate... about a
[03:06:48] general election, well yes, I mean it could happen.
[03:06:52] Andy Burnham had a sort of brief honeymoon period over the
[03:06:55] summer, um, labor have had a bit of a burn and bounce as they call it
[03:06:59] in the polls, uh, but I'm not sure that it would be enough to call a general
[03:07:03] election, because depending on the poll, you look at, they're either neck-an- neeck with reform
[03:07:07] or just few points above, I would have thought that to be sure of getting
[03:07:11] a majority, they need to be above 30% and at least sort of
[03:07:15] seven or eight points clear of reform. for a consistent
[03:07:18] period which they have not had, but it's also true
[03:07:22] that things are probably only going going to get uh more
[03:07:26] difficult uh the economic picture is worse. the
[03:07:30] chancellor's headroom that the city uh really
[03:07:34] needs that reassurance that there is seems to be uh
[03:07:38] going up in smoke and there are very difficult
[03:07:41] decisions looming now they seem to have pushed those about
[03:07:45] defense spending those about cutting the welfare budget
[03:07:48] potentially to next year um but if they had an
[03:07:52] election in May which seems to be favored month and some
[03:07:56] of those decisions by then surely will have had to be taken. because there's going to
[03:08:00] be the spring spending review, we're expecting energy bills to
[03:08:04] go up about 500 pounds because the war in Iran at the beginning of
[03:08:08] next year, so it doesn't look like there's going to
[03:08:11] be a good time for Andy Burnham to call a
[03:08:15] general election, but it could be that to go sooner
[03:08:19] rather than later might be the least bad option,
[03:08:23] even though it could risk them losing their majority and
[03:08:26] potentially having to do a deal with... the lib dems,
[03:08:30] let's have a quick look at what Sir davy said here
[03:08:33] uh last night during his speech to uh the
[03:08:37] party faithful. so conference, so
[03:08:40] conference, what will they hear?

[03:08:48] care, we fight, we care, we

[03:09:34] half of Liberal Democrats think Ed Dave should still be running the party,

[03:09:45] feisty form as you can imagine, asked her about which taxes are going
[03:09:49] to go up in the budget, why John Healey hasn't resigned over his failure to
[03:09:53] match his own claim that he wanted 3% of GDP to be spent on defense
[03:09:57] by 2030, and also you've already tasted them this morning those
[03:10:00] staggering welfare figures, mean pip payments
[03:10:04] to go up by 19 billion by the end of 2030, i said to miss
[03:10:08] Philipson, there is deceat at the heart of this labor government that, and
[03:10:12] that is that you're cutting benefits at all, you're not cutting benefits, you
[03:10:16] might be trying to cut a cut, and i'm also going to be speaking to Richard Fuller,
[03:10:20] Fuller, who is now the shadow chief secretary to the treasury, now
[03:10:23] interestingly he did work on Liz Trust's mini budget, so we'll ask him about
[03:10:27] that, but the tories are pledging to cut 20. 3 billion from
[03:10:31] welfare, reformer pledging to cut 50 billion,
[03:10:35] are either them even going to touch the sides when just
[03:10:39] pip alone is going up by almost the amount
[03:10:42] that the tories want to cut, so it comes back to this whole pat
[03:10:45] mcfadden conceit, remember when he was in the
[03:10:49] Mandelson files saying, all we're doing is taxing people more to pay people out of
[03:10:53] work benefits, i've forgotten about that as well, mean
[03:10:56] Mandelson, talk of Mandleson seems like years ago,
[03:11:00] ready uh, there's you, everything's moving a pace. is there
[03:11:03] any hint at all from any of your guests as
[03:11:07] to um early general election? well, did ask Miss Philipson
[03:11:10] about that, and you can hear her answer, but you know what they're like, you know, it's the hedging
[03:11:14] the bets, it's the refusal to answer a straight question with a straight answer. the
[03:11:18] other thing of course we're going to have look at is the ginger versus the
[03:11:21] winser, Charles versus Charles, Spencer versus the
[03:11:25] king. goodness me, it's made my head explode this week, because obviously I have
[03:11:29] a... hat on at times as you both know, so we're speaking to Robert Hardman
[03:11:33] about that, and also going over the latest in the newspapers,
[03:11:36] because the row continue, what happened to the late queen's old mantra
[03:11:40] of never complain, never explain, guys, I think that was the better approach, that was
[03:11:44] the old fashion days, given Charles Spencer said he would never
[03:11:48] profit uh from his sister's memory, um,
[03:11:52] presumably the any proceeds are going off to a landmine charity,
[03:11:56] are they? well, we look forward to seeing that happen, Mark, that's a very good point.
[03:12:00] Also remember in that eulogy, he said he would protect those princes from the
[03:12:03] sensal sensationalization and commercialization their late mother.
[03:12:07] I cannot for the life of me understand how his nephews
[03:12:11] benefit from a book accusing their father of being
[03:12:14] giddy and elated when their mother died, I mean it can't
[03:12:17] be a, if that were the case, surely that kind of
[03:12:21] passage would have also appeared in Prince Harry's book spare. Yeah, none of
[03:12:25] it makes much sense to us outsiders, maybe it makes sense to the rules, I don't

[03:12:44] thinking of Remembrance Day and they are calling for
[03:12:47] volunteers in North Yorkshire, so if you live up there have listen uh, because
[03:12:51] they need people to help run this year's Poppy appeal. Yeah, more than
[03:12:54] 60,000 volunteers give their time to the annual
[03:12:58] campaign during the remembrance period. The charity
[03:13:01] is also asking locals to spare some time to support
[03:13:05] veterans, serving personnel and their families. Well, GB

[03:13:44] great for us to be able to just give that b little bit back to them to

[03:13:51] absolutely glorious when you're looking around and seeing everyone
[03:13:55] wearing their paper poppy? my first medal was the blue
[03:13:59] one which was for the united nations
[03:14:02] service in Cyprus, un army veteran Barry Blood
[03:14:06] is proud to have served his country, during his time in
[03:14:10] the forces Barry experience. the trauma of
[03:14:13] conflict, he joined the RBL 30 years ago and has sold
[03:14:17] puppies ever since. I ended up spending two years all
[03:14:21] together in Northern Ireland. On the first tour there we lost
[03:14:25] two soldiers killed and one wounded on the first patrol we did
[03:14:29] and I think about that all the time. The British army in the tours
[03:14:33] for the 30 years lost 1441
[03:14:36] people, but it was a traumatic time for the soldiers and it was
[03:14:40] for the wives as well. The wives. offered just as much
[03:14:44] as we did. The fundraiser is vital part
[03:14:48] of remembrance and supports serving personal, veterans and
[03:14:51] their families. We all like to try to remember
[03:14:55] what's gone in the past, and our senataff here as got lots of names
[03:14:59] on from Iraq and Afghanistan and
[03:15:03] northern Ireland and so on. Every year around
[03:15:06] 60,000 volunteers give up their time nationwide to gather

[03:21:50] heartbreaking, so you know he's he's trying to
[03:21:54] still not... take a public stance on this issue while still addressing this
[03:21:58] issue now, whereas previously he just refused to outright talk about it,
[03:22:02] so it's still when it comes to this particular issue and ed
[03:22:06] Sheeron, I think it's a conversation that's going to rumble on, but for Ed
[03:22:09] Sheeren himself, he's described it as the worst week of his
[03:22:13] life, and it led him to contemplate even stopping
[03:22:17] performing, so I think the fact that he has continued to talk at
[03:22:21] least shows that he's not uh bowing down too much.

[03:22:29] well, I just didn't think the presenting
[03:22:32] format worked with the three presenters,
[03:22:35] especially Josh Windicam, yes, no, it's it's not
