And I asked the [00:00:52] in question coming into Downing Street, "Well was there interference in [00:00:56] the uh 2016 referendum from Russia," and I've had [00:00:58] the clear answer that yes. was: I implied [00:01:02] no such thing in my [00:01:04] of comments on the rest is politics [00:01:07] podcast. Look, is that really true? [00:01:11] I [00:01:11] of mean, we all heard it, didn't we? [00:05:43] that the American position hasn't changed, so from our point of view there's been no change [00:05:47] to to their stance. The invitation is there th, if Donald Trump wants to come [00:05:50] here, yeah, of course, yeah, and Breaking bad actor [00:05:54] RJ Mitter has died at the age of 34, he played the [00:05:58] son of Brian Cranston's drug dealing character, Walter [00:06:02] White in the drama, his representative has described him as a beloved [00:06:06] actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights [00:06:10] advocate. see your latest headlines, have very good [00:06:14] evening. [00:06:20] okay, welcome along to later edition, let me get with you all of tuesday's newspaper [00:06:23] front pages and we'll discuss so the eye paper, burnam ready to sign [00:06:27] new EU deal next month as he attacks Brexit [00:06:31] damage, the Metro, we'd be ready to fight tonight, that's NATO's warning to [00:06:35] Russia or I think anyone he wants it really, the sun homes [00:06:38] under the shamers, this is another Manchester City story, it's not going... away [00:06:42] all of this obviously, fury at prem cheats, they say city help [00:06:46] flog pads in the gulf, apparently earling harland has got a fantastic [00:06:50] home somewhere in the gulf, so uh there you go, mean i think [00:06:53] look the second you scratch the surface with this kind of money from that kind of [00:06:57] region you find stuff like that don't you? the daily mail, burnham in retreat [00:07:01] over russia brexit lies, we played you a couple of clips on that earlier on strongly [00:07:05] implied anyway that was certainly my takeaway from it and i think most people's which [00:07:09] is that he basically alluded to the idea that that russia swade. [00:07:12] Brexit referendum, now he's gone full reverse ferit on that, the [00:07:16] daily mirror, horrifying, outrageous reform big wig gemerick says [00:07:20] that the party would order the royal marines to use lethal force against [00:07:24] migrants, we're going to discuss this, it follows a bit from something that's [00:07:28] the usuff has said, usuf I think was more specifically talking about about human [00:07:32] traffickers, um, I mean how how would you feel about the idea the [00:07:36] roll marines being told to use lethal force in the channel, the guardian [00:07:39] PM says that Britain's relationship with the EU is not good. enough, the [00:07:43] independent, burnham says he'll let voters decide to rejoin Europe. [00:07:46] That this is a, [00:07:47] this is very, very vague development here now, unless I'm [00:07:51] missing something, which wouldn't be for the first time, how are you going to do it? Is it going to be a general [00:07:55] election, [00:07:55] is it going to be another referendum? It's keeping stum on this at the minute, the times, cut [00:07:59] screen time in class for the sake of people's health, but the the big one at the top [00:08:03] the front page there is the disability benefits for 120,000 [00:08:07] teenagers a costing taxpayers 1 billion pounds a year. I'm hoping there's someone [00:08:11] who's much better. last than I might be able to work out exactly what that equates [00:08:15] to per disabled teenager, but certainly lot of money isn't [00:08:19] it? per year as well, let's focus on on what's [00:08:22] what's what what's doing the rounds across multiple different front pages, if we bring up the daily express, [00:08:26] deriction of duty, bid to betray brexit vote, [00:08:30] the express go for furious, prime minister confirms he will seek closer [00:08:34] ties with the European Union and this idea that he [00:08:37] seems like he's he's he's ready to to sign deal. okay, [00:08:41] firstly carry. does he have a mandate to be [00:08:45] renegotiating any kind of he has no mandate at all, this [00:08:49] is a man who got you 20,00 votes in [00:08:52] makerfield a time of which he was campaigning and talking [00:08:56] about rejoining the EU and said he wasn't going to Brexit is done he said [00:09:00] at the time and you know he he said that a constituency that voted leave [00:09:03] a big make feel was a big vote leave constituency so he's lied to those [00:09:07] people and he's lied to the rest of us because time and again he has said Brexit is [00:09:11] done we're not going to back there and here he is talking about going back there and [00:09:15] it's it's not a der he says it's a dereliction of [00:09:18] duty um to to to to to betray [00:09:22] Brexit his duty is to respect the biggest [00:09:26] democratic vote this country has ever had 33.6 [00:09:30] million people voted of and and and and and the final result [00:09:33] 1 million people more voted to actually leave um [00:09:37] does that ever expire um no it doesn't expire and why should it expire how can you [00:09:41] possibly say that? you must have a communist regime so what people vote for something once [00:09:45] you the biggest vote for prime minister was [00:09:49] furious question like that so when when people vote for labor when they voted for them [00:09:53] two and a half years ago does that vote expire don't do very [00:09:55] well it hasn't general [00:09:59] election yeah every [00:10:04] kind you the might point get one that's by law but no we well you think we get sorry one [00:10:05] i but think think that that's is literally the point that that we're making [00:10:08] it no sorry but is the so but it says [00:10:12] here on burn and ready to sign new EU [00:10:16] deal next month, so he's not putting it to the public again, is it? he's just [00:10:20] signing it, he says he promised a serious dialogue with who, who's going to have the [00:10:24] dialogue with cuz it's no? asked. I mean even at party conference, he was [00:10:27] talking about this in the longer term, he was talking about this at the next general [00:10:31] election, all that. This says is ready to sign deal next [00:10:35] month. Well, fingers crossed. I think that, [00:10:37] you know, I don't think that we should have new referendum, I don't think we should rejoin the [00:10:41] EU. Uh, those would throw far more questions than answers, but [00:10:45] his responsibility, any government's responsibility, is to deliver what we've [00:10:49] not had for 10 years, and that's economic growth. You're [00:10:52] talking rubbish against, stop [00:10:54] saying that. Britain has had more economic growth than the top five countries in [00:10:58] the EU, stop saying that, I'm glad you're doing fabulously, but I think most people [00:11:02] would say doing fabulously, it's not that, [00:11:06] don't say we've had no economic growth, we have [00:11:08] had more than Italy, we have [00:11:12] had more than Germany, the only person the only country that's had [00:11:16] more than us is France, and that's by a half a percent, stop saying there's been no [00:11:20] growth, do you know how much trade we do with the EU, what percentage [00:11:23] it is, do you know how much? [00:11:33] do you know how much trade we do with Japan with the Gulf states how much [00:11:36] we do [00:11:37] you don't Mongolia we could go on forever the fact is that when it comes to the EU [00:11:41] which is the actual question that Andy Bernam is putting forward [00:11:44] 41% of our trade is with the EU [00:11:48] block it's 380 billion pounds a year now the fact [00:11:52] is there is far more opportunity for growth with the r countries on [00:11:55] earth right next to us and we have put barriers in the way okay, [00:11:59] well so so so just just bring you up on this, i actually kind of almost want to zoom out a little [00:12:03] bit here and talk about the absolute utter betrayal by the [00:12:07] establishment on brexit right from the start, cameron cameron went [00:12:11] immediately as did Osborne, then incomes Theresa May and Avid Romaina [00:12:14] who never believed in the thing with the party where I think it was 56% of her own [00:12:18] MPs in a parliament where 75% of all MPs [00:12:22] voted to remain in the European Union. didn't manage to get [00:12:26] any kind of deal, Boris comes in, gets something resembling [00:12:29] deal and then uses that as an opportunity to import load of people from [00:12:33] India really and Pakistan and places like that, [00:12:37] and and we've not taken, they never, the establishment never wanted it to [00:12:40] work, and the culmination of that is that you end up with a bloke who has been [00:12:44] elected by 0.036% the population, who is doing [00:12:47] everything to get as close to rejoining as possible, so that [00:12:51] probably in about 10 years time we just rejoin fully, yeah we [00:12:55] will [00:12:55] do it'll be death by a thousand cuts, but I've got to say, I've got to say the the sort the [00:12:59] impatis and the argument to to stay away from Europe would be stronger [00:13:03] if the architects, the flagwavers for Brexit hadn't absolutely [00:13:07] thrown everybody who voted for Brexit under the bus, the bus that had [00:13:11] 320 million written on the side of it, like Boris Johnson, Boris Johnson [00:13:14] was was on that bus cheering saying vote Brexit, we'll take back control of our [00:13:18] borders, what's the what's the first thing he does, opens the borders to to [00:13:22] millions of people and not not culturally similar. not not [00:13:25] Spanish, French, Polish, Germans, these are people from [00:13:29] far-flung, distant, alien, medieval [00:13:33] places that are obviously letting millions of people in like that is going [00:13:37] to cause huge amounts of social friction and huge amounts of [00:13:40] economic problems, so I mean I think pragmatically we kind of [00:13:44] need to be a bit closer to Europe economically, I don't think that means we [00:13:48] have to give up our sovereignty or or control of our borders, [00:13:52] but the the economics the situation makes sense. we we join [00:13:56] in any way shape or form, all the trade deals that we have done since [00:13:59] we left the EU, we'd have to scrub, and we've done some stunking trade deals since [00:14:03] we left money, why don't you [00:14:07] say we're not going to scrap them, why don't we, why don't we [00:14:09] out like Britain, [00:14:10] we should like Britain gutless [00:14:13] acted like and 200 who [00:14:14] years will not say he's already crawling on his belly now and saying that he [00:14:18] want this is how we want to get in, he's saying this is what's going to happen, he will be [00:14:22] told what he has to do, because that is that is Andy b, if [00:14:24] it was another leader, if it was a Farage or a kemy banock, they might not take [00:14:28] orders from the EU, but Andy Burnon will. I think it's quite disingenuous for him to say that [00:14:32] we that we need to rejoin the EU or do whatever we're doing with the [00:14:36] EU, now to sort out illegal immigration, so he's he's talking [00:14:40] about it, [00:14:40] we need it for the economy, all right, you can say there's some kind of economic case for it, you can [00:14:44] say [00:14:44] that there's actually economic case for going further deeper into Brexit [00:14:48] and and [00:14:49] and and maximizing our opportunities elsewhere in the world, which we seemed unwilling to do, so you can [00:14:53] make the economic case for both sides, but illegal immigration thing I find super [00:14:57] disingenuous, we are now sovereign country completely, we [00:15:01] could do what we want, the solution to stopping illegal [00:15:04] immigration is not to enter into a quota system with the European Union, [00:15:08] because all that takes is for one these countries to have some absolutely [00:15:12] mental policy like Spain with the amnesty, [00:15:16] and we're now on the hook for all of this stuff as well, part [00:15:20] the reason that we have problems with immigration now is is because because [00:15:24] of you, because we've... and because they can't control their own borders because lot the [00:15:27] people we're getting are people that are coming through their b [00:15:30] the eu started again started this she threw [00:15:33] arms syria and now it's like oh how do... [00:15:37] the migrant crisis, well you started the EU started the migrant crisis, it's not a [00:15:41] mystery, but the the smears though, Benjamin, the [00:15:44] smears about you, this Russia game, I mean he's on the front the the the [00:15:48] daily mail tomorrow, burnham in retreat over Russia Brexit lives, we [00:15:52] played the clip earlier on, he went on the Russiis politics and and look, [00:15:56] most people take away from what he said there, in fact the Russi's politics tweeted [00:15:59] words to this effect, Andy Burnan becomes the first prime minister to [00:16:03] confirm that Russia will try to infiltrate or whatever it was that the... [00:16:07] the EU referendum, [00:16:09] you know, and now he's on the back foot over that, he's coming out trying to clear up go, well, didn't [00:16:13] mean they swayed it, I didn't [00:16:15] mean it had material, material impact, but the inference here is that [00:16:19] anyone who really back brexit or or like Nigel Farage or any [00:16:23] these people, they are agents for the Kremlin, and this is what he's trying to [00:16:27] get out there, isn't it? no, he is saying that he has learned as prime [00:16:30] minister, there is evidence that they tried to interfere in our democratic process, [00:16:34] now I think it would be absurdly naive to... think that Russia, [00:16:38] which we know, spends 1 and a half billion pounds a year on [00:16:42] interfering other democracies through things like fake bots on the [00:16:45] internet to sway opinion and sense of opinion, it would be ridiculous to think that they [00:16:49] hadn't tried that and that they weren't trying to interfere with our democracy. now Andy [00:16:53] Burnham also said in that interview, no, he doesn't think it [00:16:56] decided the result, he was clear about that, but I have [00:17:00] to be skeptical, I have to ask people like you, you to that [00:17:03] advocate for your fantasy, your failed fantasy. of [00:17:07] brexit, why is it that you're so reluctant to listen to people in [00:17:11] positions of authority telling you that Russia was trying to sway the result? why are you so [00:17:15] sympathetic to these people? I'm not, who says I'm sympathetic to them, but you you [00:17:19] got reaction is to defend because our [00:17:23] prime minister said categorically that the Russians [00:17:26] interfered with the Brexit vote, so he was trying to provide any [00:17:30] evidence and didn't provide, but but was try to suggest that all of us were [00:17:34] influenced by Russian bot to votely absolutely. and then [00:17:38] within 24 hours when his advises at number 10 and says he [00:17:41] should have said that god you can't say that he came back and tried to pretend he hadn't [00:17:45] meant that the leader of reform UK in Wales [00:17:49] has been convicted after the brexit referendum yes but that is prime evidence [00:17:53] the fact that they try to interfere and that they do it directly and [00:17:57] indirectly i absolutely 100% [00:18:00] agree that any nafarious power whether it's China or Russia or anyone who [00:18:04] doesn't like us is desperately I mean I think that's china, [00:18:08] I mean Russia for example, has huge hand to play in the illegal migrant crisis, China [00:18:12] does, China supplies lot the bows, the Russian with their vagner forces helped [00:18:16] at certainly one point anyway, to move literally millions of Africans [00:18:19] through the continent of Africa into Libya and then across the Mediterranean, we know [00:18:23] all of this stuff, the only thing I will say is do we not think that we do try to influence the [00:18:27] results of elections elsew, I mean we fought wars in the Middle East to try to influence [00:18:31] the entire entire countries over there, we [00:18:35] also to much lesser extent admittedly. but we we sent labour staffers over there [00:18:39] to go and campaign for com to campaign for Donald Trump, exactly, but [00:18:43] this is my point, it happened, but you never mentioned that, you always go on about 100 random [00:18:47] labor party members, farage literally goes over and gives speeches, he [00:18:51] wasn't even going to run for our parliament so that he could campaign for the US [00:18:54] presidents actually might have interfered in the the result the general [00:18:58] election two and a half years ago, i'm sure they [00:18:59] did, i'm sure they [00:19:03] did that if the russians are picking a party it would be [00:19:07] so we should now, so we should now say, okay, we think the Russians interfare the general [00:19:11] election, so labor shouldn't be in power, let's have another vote, I mean there is Carol, I don't know which [00:19:15] bit of democracy you don't get, we have new vote every couple of years, that's how it [00:19:19] works, you seem to think there's a unique exemption [00:19:22] exemption for brexit, there shouldn't be, there should be the right to change [00:19:26] our mind, there should be the right to chall after poll [00:19:30] shows if no, it doesn't, 30% of people think breaks it went [00:19:33] well, hello, says 50% [00:19:37] really right, keep on talking seen over how [00:19:41] that much i've it annoys you definitely vote leave, but this is, but this is the other interest, [00:19:45] so so the independence from page, yeah, they go, burnham, i'll let [00:19:48] voters decide to rejoin Europe, he says he'll use the brussel summit next month to push for [00:19:52] reset, promises the public will be the boss, so that's got to be some kind of [00:19:56] referendum, it's got to be the election, but if to to tires in with [00:20:00] what he's saying, be saying was all about the russians and stuff, the the follow up the what he said on the [00:20:04] rest politics, if you was trying [00:20:06] to wish a warning to the people of Germany and the people of France, Germany's on the [00:20:10] cusp of potentially electing the AFD, France is potentially on the cusp of electing Marine [00:20:14] Lepen, obviously France was a leading figure, not the [00:20:18] but a leading figure in the Brexit, and what he's trying to do there is basically [00:20:21] say to buy into this argument that if you are anti-establishment or you are [00:20:25] right-wing in Europe, you are an, you [00:20:29] are an agent the creamlin, that is what he's trying to say, and [00:20:33] it is, it is smear, yeah, although there is there is some evidence. [00:20:37] for [00:20:37] it with the the AFD are more you know Russia leaning than than other [00:20:41] German parties, I think they've they've uh they've proposed [00:20:45] you know suspending aid to to Ukraine and Marine Lepen I know like once [00:20:49] people get in to power um like like Georgia Malone, they they tend to sort [00:20:53] of moderate their views, but Marine Lepen in the past has been [00:20:57] you know cosier with - with Putin, but what I don't understand is is [00:21:00] why [00:21:01] you know Benjamin says well reform would be the party that Russia that [00:21:04] Putin would support, Tys, Richard Tyce has has taken [00:21:08] aid, he's driven vehicles to Ukraine [00:21:12] to what what crap argument, [00:21:14] Richard Ty [00:21:18] Richard Tyce is on record. repeatedly defending the fact that Ukraine [00:21:22] should give Russia some of its land, that's no wonder they'd support Richard [00:21:26] Tyce. Richard Tys has taken aid to [00:21:29] Ukraine [00:21:31] to to to give to Ukraine to help them [00:21:34] in the fight against Russia, this idea that reform [00:21:38] is somehow in the pocket of [00:21:40] Putin. [00:21:44] They would ban women fleeing Ukraine from coming to Britain, they would die at the [00:21:48] hands of Russians back home potentially. [00:22:00] go back on holiday to Ukraine, I'm not saying it's a nice thing, I'm saying I'm [00:22:03] not saying there's no risk attached to it right, but what I am saying is that there are plenty of other [00:22:07] avenues as well that they can take, they don't have to come and permanently settle in none [00:22:11] eaten, and there'll be there'll be an exemption for attractive women, don't [00:22:14] worry, okay, and there you go, right, okay, well there we are, um, [00:22:18] but anyway, this is I think. [00:22:20] we'll "We've managed to perfectly encapsulatate the multitude of different stories going on about the [00:22:23] EU and Brexit, what Andy Burnham's have got to [00:22:26] plan, wait and see. coming up in just moment. We will [00:22:30] end the asylum system for up to five years. We [00:22:33] literally have no idea who is here, and [00:22:37] we frankly can't afford [00:22:41] to take the risk. Well, reform UK has announced that total and complete [00:22:44] shutdown the asylum system for five years if they win at the next general [00:22:48] election, but the mirror..." their front page has teed off on Robert [00:22:52] Jemrick for comments about using lethal force to stop the [00:22:56] migrant crisis, would you be in favor of that? that's [00:22:59] next. [00:26:11] Okay, welcome along. We'll bring up the mirrors front page, which is [00:26:15] horrifying, outrages reform, Big Wig Jemeric says party would order royal [00:26:18] marines to use lethal force against migrants. Let's [00:26:22] take a listen to what he actually said, here is the [00:26:25] clip. Oh, okay, the clip is coming shortly, don't [00:26:29] worry. Uh, but yes, Robert Gemerick has said that if Nadal frage becomes... [00:26:32] p.m. the marines will be able to use lethal force to stop the [00:26:36] small boats. here it is. what we are going to do and we're the only political [00:26:40] party that has the courage to say this is deploy the raw [00:26:44] marines into the channel. if they need to use lethal force then they'll [00:26:48] be able to do so. that's obviously not our uh, that's not what we want to [00:26:52] see happen. we want to see these individuals picked up off the boats a [00:26:55] uh you [00:26:56] know sensible and reasonable way and taken straight back to [00:26:58] france. right now my underst. [00:27:02] of that is that he was echoing remarks that were made by Zia Yusuf [00:27:06] which was directed about lethal force towards the human [00:27:10] trafficers and the people smugglers yeah now by the way some people might still think that's [00:27:14] i mean i don't think that's impalitable to uh be [00:27:17] willing to use lethal force that goes to human trafficker personally but some people [00:27:21] still might think that's be on the pale i don't know i don't think [00:27:25] as the mirror front page makes out he is saying he would [00:27:29] just take a machine gun to boat of illegal the English [00:27:33] Channel, yeah, I was quite disappointed when I when I found out that [00:27:35] that wasn't the plan, but we've seen this, we've seen this, is obviously a joke, we've [00:27:39] seen this else where in Europe Greece has used live fire, Greece [00:27:43] has has used swamping where they use their their big boats, Greece [00:27:47] actually uses its border force boats to stop the migrants [00:27:51] instead of helping them get a shore, it's incredible concept, might catch on, [00:27:55] or we could deploy NHS receptionists to the English channel, they'll [00:27:58] stop anybody getting in, they'll just be shooting the ball, you're supposed to... [00:28:02] call between 8 a.m. and 8:01 a.m. you can't just rock [00:28:06] up uh so i don't know think i think this idea [00:28:10] that uh i don't think royal marines will be keen to [00:28:13] use um live ammo on on uh on people [00:28:17] smugglers given that the next government will probably then prosecute them for [00:28:21] doing that because we're seeing we're seeing servicemen and service women getting [00:28:25] prosecuted now for for well they have they'd have to have a law on absolute [00:28:29] castiron immunity which you don't know how practical that is. [00:28:32] 'I do think that there are members the all marines [00:28:36] who would be more [00:28:37] than willing [00:28:39] to slot to pick off human traffickers whether it's on the beaches of [00:28:43] Cal or whether it's [00:28:44] or or whether it's in the boat. [00:28:45] I don't think it's a good look, [00:28:47] I don't think we should be shooting mid-channel, but I do think exactly what Leo says [00:28:51] our border force, what would be revolutionary and and very controversial [00:28:54] as if the border force stop the boats and send them back, that that [00:28:58] would be the best solution, then nobody dies, you just gets sent back to France, but it's [00:29:03] are our government and I said it earlier in the program, they seem to feel the controlling air [00:29:07] borders is a morally repugnant concept, they don't think that at all, yes they [00:29:10] do, well why aren't they controlling the borders cuz they're not, they are the numbers are [00:29:14] down, you keep on these numbers are [00:29:17] down, do you not think if they deported as many people say they [00:29:21] had that be having photographs of people getting on planes the be showing us, [00:29:24] they have no they have not, the biggest ever deportation flight took [00:29:28] part took place under labor, leo, i have good news, when when when? [00:29:32] 18 months ago, no, you're this is, you're just making this up, we literally [00:29:35] did it as a debate on this show, uh, I have good news, Andy [00:29:39] burnam's mom was a GP receptionist by Korea, so uh, [00:29:43] he's got it in the blood, good at, [00:29:45] good at dealing with people, so I just just need to [00:29:48] point out that the actual percentage of small boat migrants [00:29:52] being deported does not appear to have risen, so it's it's an average of [00:29:56] 4.3%, I think it is, of smallbat China [00:30:00] migrants have crossed the have been. have been successfully [00:30:04] deported, well the number that's coming in is falling, the number that's being [00:30:07] accepted [00:30:11] uh lots of good news, i don't think that's funny how the perception is it's not [00:30:15] good news, the funny is the funny thing is people like you spin it, think we have [00:30:19] 1700 last week, yes exactly, yeah was that good is that [00:30:23] reduction week before that it was the same thing, the perception in the [00:30:26] country in the communities around this country, they're now protesting in the streets [00:30:30] everywhere because the... but the mars are getting put into their community [00:30:34] so to them, [00:30:36] i don't think to go to the story we meant to be discussing, taking a gun and shooting vulnerable people in [00:30:40] the channel is a wise idea, no [00:30:44] we could not, leo, he's joking, but the rest of us have said that we [00:30:48] don't you have to cav at it, look the fact is, there is [00:30:52] danger, the idea that the state, that any arm the state could have a right, even [00:30:56] the people smuggers who are the evil behind this to just [00:30:59] without trial or identific. or [00:31:02] certainty to just shoot someone is obviously not a line the state [00:31:06] should cross, and I would suggest if they're close enough and confirmable [00:31:10] enough that they are a people smuggler, then there are probably ways to deal with [00:31:14] them other than... shooting, you're talking, but you're talking tosh [00:31:18] because he's identified people smuggles on this show, he's given the details [00:31:22] to the cops, that is what should happen, not to [00:31:26] murder them in cold blood, and also you'd be asking - [00:31:30] you know people in our armed forces to go and kill these people or seriously wound [00:31:33] them, that could then turn out to be a mistake, and they took the orders, it is wrong on [00:31:37] every, these people smugglers, these lovely people smugglers who don't [00:31:41] who don't get people killed in the channel't [00:31:44] help to chuck. babies out of boats, all of that, these wonderful people evil, but I [00:31:48] don't think that you should be shooting people dead without assessment, right? that's not [00:31:52] how we behave as Britain, and that's not what we make our armed forces do in [00:31:56] France or in Britain. for once, I'm I'm sort of two-thirds agreeing with you, I don't [00:32:00] think we should be sureing people in the channel, but I do think we should be stopping them in the [00:32:04] channel and taking them back to friends, and in recent last three months 16 [00:32:07] people were convicted for people smuggling, so that is happening, thank [00:32:11] goodness, yes, but then the problem with that is that they end up serving prison in this country. and st [00:32:15] three months in jail [00:32:17] yeah that's it's like oh we caught one them he's do it few years in [00:32:21] prison and then we just give my house we got a new british person then we [00:32:24] got eligible for a passport now so that's great isn't it's so [00:32:28] it's like yeah great all right well identify what we what are we doing with the uh yeah all [00:32:32] right well mean that's that's that's that's the mirrors front page there for you um [00:32:36] look coming up we are going to be discussing [00:32:38] this is everything is [00:32:41] free uh the best when comes [00:32:45] to benefits, [00:32:49] cosmic, so uh, yes, that's a lady who says the best thing about Britain is of [00:32:53] course the benefit, but the Times is welfare inquiry continues and is [00:32:56] revealed that disability benefits for 1, sorry, [00:33:00] 120,000 teenagers costs the British tax [00:33:03] payer 1 billion pounds a [00:33:07] year, how can that be the case, and that is just the ones that are zoned in on here, it's [00:33:11] staggering number, we'll discuss that when we come back. Let's bring up the Times's front page. for [00:36:28] tomorrow, which is of course Tuesday, they go for disability benefits for [00:36:32] 120,000 teenagers, cost the tax payer 1 billion pounds [00:36:36] a year, there's an ongoing thing happening now in British media really, which is seems to be a big [00:36:40] big big focus on benefits rightly so um [00:36:43] and where people maybe are [00:36:46] overclaiming and where there's some some potential waste, it's [00:36:49] obviously not to say that um everyone [00:36:52] on benefits is some kind of benefits cheat or anything like that, it's not what I'm saying, but this this one billion [00:36:56] pounds figure divided by ' works out about [00:36:59] 800 sorry 8,333 quid - a [00:37:03] month uh per person uh which [00:37:06] is uh six sorry [00:37:09] per year sorry i should say which is 694 pounds a [00:37:13] month per person um so that's [00:37:17] quite a lot isn't it mean the thing is suppose it depends how [00:37:20] disabled you are doesn't it well if it's the're talking here the're saying it's [00:37:24] about kids with autism and HD conditions and [00:37:28] mild depression and so you okay, you get 694 quid [00:37:32] on, but how does that help your condition? it doesn't at all, what you should be getting is [00:37:35] help, not cash, and and the point is, you get given it, and what do [00:37:39] you do with the kids who have got these conditions, they sit at home all day doing what, not [00:37:43] mixing, becoming socially isolated, no one's getting any help, there are [00:37:47] forms, there are forms of autism where I can see obviously [00:37:51] look and I'm just sure we're all agree with that, you can't work at all, but there are lots where [00:37:55] you can, yeah, yes, yes, exactly. many people, many people on the [00:37:58] station have forms of autism, and and they they do a brilliant [00:38:02] job, yeah, in every workplace, in every workplace there [00:38:06] is absolutely, and and but ADHD, and I think this is the thing as [00:38:10] well, the mild depression aspects of it, yeah, I've I'm very [00:38:14] sympathetic towards, [00:38:17] it was such an car, such random commenting anyone everyone [00:38:21] in every, there are people in every workplace got a form of autism, it's not, it's not a big [00:38:24] deal, but um, but look, with with the [00:38:27] with the... ADHD thing in the [00:38:28] and the kind of mild depression, whilst I am sympathetic towards these people, I'm [00:38:32] sorry, I don't think tossing 695 [00:38:36] quid a month at them [00:38:38] is right, also it's incentivizing people to have those conditions to go and [00:38:42] get diagnosed with ADHD or autism or whatever, I've [00:38:45] got i've got a lot of, I [00:38:46] mean it seems to be fad a trend amongst comedians to to get [00:38:50] yourself diagnosed with autism or ADHD so you've got something to write a show [00:38:54] about so you're not just like some boring white guy you've got [00:38:57] like a thing. that makes you victim and I've got friends who've got themselves [00:39:00] diagnosed privately with ADHD and they then get the [00:39:04] prescription medication from the NHS which [00:39:07] is I mean spade it's yeah essentially it's drugs you [00:39:11] know it's it's quite it's quite it's quite powerful stuff [00:39:14] so I think if you put tax on ADHD and [00:39:18] autism instead of giving people money to have it [00:39:22] then people would suddenly stop having it. I suppose it ties a bit [00:39:25] Benjamin with with the fact that we [00:39:27] did a story earlier on in my previous show, which is that there are about two million people currently [00:39:31] on on some form of welfare benefit for disabilities who have just not been [00:39:34] checked like since COVID, see whether or not they've even still got these disabilities, [00:39:38] one block [00:39:39] has been waiting 16 years, I mean um is clung [00:39:42] on, but you this is this is the thing which I think when people see these [00:39:46] headlines they have a right to think that actually there's a lot of fraud going on here, [00:39:50] well you know one the problems of COVID is that people were checked without having [00:39:53] in-person consultation which made it easier to exploit. the [00:39:57] system and then they have just been on, repeat prescriptions [00:40:01] essentially, repeat payments for years and so obviously that's a flaw. i think [00:40:05] logistically the problem is hiring the people in the time to get [00:40:08] round such a scale, but i was just going to add sorry that you some with [00:40:12] autism or depression clear that can be serious enough that you [00:40:15] need help, but i do think this is completely wrong, the number of people claiming pip [00:40:19] is unsustainable and it means you don't have the money for people that need it when [00:40:23] it's out of control, and then also [00:40:26] you know if someone's depressed. and they're not going to work and they're not making social [00:40:29] connection, they're going to stay depressed, [00:40:32] there was a pole recently [00:40:34] of of gps, hundreds of gps who were asked about giving [00:40:37] you sign off notes [00:40:39] to to to kids with all these things, to people with all these conditions, and they all said they had [00:40:43] never refused sick note to anyone, [00:40:46] i think [00:40:46] it was 72, i think [00:40:47] it was 72% of gps and you can see why because they they're covering their [00:40:51] backsides in case the one person does comes to them and does something [00:40:55] terrible, but you can't you can't have that. got thousands of people shouldn't be [00:40:59] on, should i sort of also just just clarify that ADHD medication is not [00:41:03] literally street speed, yeah there is a there is slight difference [00:41:07] um which my producer seems to lot about um uh yes this [00:41:10] is it's obviously a more pharmaceutical grade and is therefore significantly [00:41:14] safer on that note uh let's go stateside [00:41:18] now for - late the late show live which [00:41:22] is uh hosted from midnight until 3:00 am by our wonderful tom harword [00:41:26] tom fantastic to see in the hot sea over there, [00:41:28] I hope you're settling in nicely. What's on your agenda this [00:41:31] evening? Patrick, before I told you about the show, I [00:41:35] thought I would just want to say a big thank you to your wife, Emily, because she's helped me settle in [00:41:39] here, she brought. me some everyday tea and even [00:41:43] um and even some marmites, which I'm sure we're allowed to say the brand name of, so I'm [00:41:46] feeling right at home here in Washington DC with some the best of [00:41:50] British, but lots coming up on the show today, we're of course [00:41:54] going to be talking not just about that new story in the times the [00:41:58] disability benefits you've been discussing, but frankly the amount that has been spent on [00:42:02] working age benefits in total over the last 20 [00:42:05] years, it's a trillion pounds, yes I said trillion, not [00:42:08] billion, a... [00:42:10] astonishing had out this million more pounds more than we've spent on infrastructure like [00:42:16] money uh roads, railways or even housing. I mean it's an that extraordinary we're spending on benefits rather than the long-lasting [00:42:20] pro-gowth stuff that might actually affect the country. Also [00:42:24] 29 we've country statement from the uh foreign [00:42:28] secretaries the United States, Canada, France, [00:42:31] Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, lots of countries [00:42:35] all coming together to say yes, we agree with the United Kingdom's [00:42:38] assessment that it was the IRGC that it was Iran most [00:42:42] likely behind the Fairford incident, huge show of [00:42:46] international support there for that statement. What does that mean for our [00:42:49] security in all these countries, quite frankly, if the [00:42:53] IRGC is willing to operate well outside the immediate [00:42:57] theater the Iran war. We're also this evening going to be speaking about [00:43:01] the budget, because there's a massive black hole, 35 billion pounds that the [00:43:05] chancellor now seems to have to find. It's extraordinary that every [00:43:08] single budget is either... more spending cuts or more tax, take us back to [00:43:12] the ages when actually budgets were moment of giveaway rather than [00:43:16] take back, but ultimately there is so much more to discuss and we'll be [00:43:20] diving into it all here on the late show live. i should also say the new [00:43:24] press secretary for the white house, remember Caroline Levit, she left the White [00:43:28] House over the summer, well now Katie Zachariah, she's got a first [00:43:32] press briefing tomorrow, it should be a storming one. [00:43:35] fantastic, tom, electric stuff, thank you very, very much, Tom Harword [00:43:39] there. he'll be taking the reigns for the late show live from midnight [00:43:43] until 3 am and yeah, mean look the elephant in the room there [00:43:46] when it comes to the fact that he's 29 countries have all signed a thing to say that they believe that the [00:43:50] Iranian regime was behind - what w not rafford is [00:43:53] you know what is milliban going to do all about this mean supposedly he [00:43:56] some the Iranian ambassador and previously was shaking hands with the Iranian [00:44:00] foreign minister the UN thing wasn't it oh don't you don't do [00:44:04] anything to us all they mugged him right off by the looks of things didn't they but anyway we'll be talking [00:44:08] about uh yeah something very very important when we come back this: they are attacks [00:44:12] on our values and our way of life. so this happened in the [00:44:16] house of commons today, it's made the guardians front page, home secretary shabana mahmoed has announced review [00:44:20] into mp's safety following the latest developments after the [00:44:24] killing of am Widdiker. last [00:44:26] next. [00:48:26] 'Okay, welcome back. The final newspaper we're going to cover this evening is the [00:48:30] Guardian, and they've got a big story about what Mahmoud said in the House of Commons [00:48:33] earlier about MP's safety and security. It's going to be [00:48:37] review. Look, what level of security do we realistically [00:48:41] think that MPS should get? Should it be constant close [00:48:44] protection for all 650 them? So what should it be? What [00:48:48] should it look like? Well, [00:48:50] you know, we've got to look at the parties and the people.' the MPs that actually get the abuse [00:48:54] and lot them happen to be reform people and so [00:48:57] so you know and and a long time ago last year Farage asked the [00:49:01] government to look at his security and he asked for [00:49:04] it to be funded and it was just they were taking notice them [00:49:07] none at all and now suddenly someone has been murdered and [00:49:11] now they're taking notice it's a little bit late frankly you know [00:49:15] farage gets since February this year he has had [00:49:19] 1,700 threats nearly 600 of those ' credible death [00:49:23] threat, so people like him would obviously require [00:49:27] more security, so you would do a so what you're saying, i think is you do it a case by [00:49:30] case basis i think so, yes i think so, someone someone who's below [00:49:33] the radar probably doesn't need 24-hour protection, somebody like [00:49:37] farage does, so to have 24 hour protection you basically need a team of six [00:49:41] people which is incredibly expensive and we don't have the police [00:49:45] resource, you don't need a team of six people for 24 hour protection, [00:49:49] you need a team of two maybe for someone like faroj? [00:49:52] the note Faris turned down a team of six people because he said it wasn't [00:49:56] anything like enough um but look one the problems is that [00:50:00] you know joe Cox and David Amos who were brutally [00:50:03] murdered most most people had never heard them so [00:50:07] I mean David Amos had been around for a while Joe Cox was brand new to parliament was very [00:50:11] low profile and yet she was targeted and so well I don't think that it's [00:50:15] practical to have this for every MP actually the problem is that any [00:50:19] MP is victim of this or people outside. certain [00:50:22] practical things you can do, so MP surgeries, yeah, you could [00:50:26] have basically a something level up from bouncer on the [00:50:30] door, well they do, some i was talking the weekend and [00:50:34] they have security guard outside the door their surgery and [00:50:38] so anyone who comes into the surgery is is frisked and that's brand [00:50:41] new, that's in the last year, [00:50:43] i know [00:50:44] so you can do that, you can have [00:50:46] i don't panic alarms in your home, you there's the [00:50:50] things you can do without having close [00:50:53] protection all the time, but [00:50:55] then i suppose some mps do need that. what what would [00:50:59] you? what is the what is going to be the outcome of this review? what do we do? well, i [00:51:03] think it's a it's a real problem and not just for MPs but for for everybody, and [00:51:07] if you look at where the threat is coming from, it's coming from the far left, [00:51:11] the far right, and it's coming from islamism. uh, so you [00:51:14] know, joe cox was was killed by somebody from the far right, uh, David Amos by [00:51:18] an islamist, and then we've seen more, more recently the the far [00:51:21] left. so there's been a huge amount of work done by the government by the [00:51:25] authorities to to clamp down on the fire right, make sure nobody's reading any [00:51:29] Douglas Murray books or anything like that, anybody who does that gets referred to prevent [00:51:33] if you so much as look a constable painting or or enjoy lord the [00:51:36] rings, but there's been very little work done on the [00:51:40] far left who from my experience are far [00:51:43] more, far more violent and far more almost [00:51:47] self-righteous, so so [00:51:49] that so I suppose that then is is that we are treating the... some not the [00:51:53] cause if you gave if you gave MPs 24 hour [00:51:56] protection all that stuff you're not necess you're preventing them maybe being you [00:52:00] know murdered which is a good thing but then you are not actually [00:52:04] maybe jumpping down on the ideologies behind it, even the guardian that [00:52:08] reports on this, if you read any copy the guardian, there will be dog whistles to [00:52:12] the far left in there that you know, i'm not saying that it it [00:52:16] causes, it's almost this sort of stocastic terrorism, it [00:52:20] creates an environment where people feel it's acceptable to to do [00:52:24] horrible violent things okay, well well there you go um right, look we uh going to give [00:52:28] you the round up tomorrow papers before we hand you over to america the ipaper burn and ready to [00:52:31] sign new EU deal next month the metro we be to fight [00:52:35] tonight, says NATO, the sun homes under the chamas, another [00:52:39] Manchester City story there about some the perks, I think they've been given some their players, the daily mail, [00:52:43] burnum in retreat over Russia, Brexit lies, the Guardian [00:52:46] PM says Britain's relationship with the EU was not good enough, the Times cut [00:52:50] screen time in class for the sake of pupils health, the independent [00:52:54] Andy Burnam says that he'll let voters decide to rejoin [00:52:58] Europe, okay, well when and how supposed to the express, der election of [00:53:01] duty bid to betray Brexit vote at the daily mirror horror outrageous reform, [00:53:05] big [00:53:06] wig, jemerick says the party would order royal marines to use lethal force [00:53:09] against migrants. okay, thank you to my panel, thank you to you. over to the late show live [00:53:13] in Washington with Tom Howard. from [00:53:17] welfare to warfare. this late show live is going to be a [00:53:21] conquer, a stormer. we're also going to be talking about P. diddie who's [00:53:25] been sent to hospital after being in prison. what's gone on [00:53:29] there? also Ilhann Omar, the controversial uh US [00:53:33] uh member the House of Representatives she's had her DC [00:53:36] home reided in the early hours of this morning, what's all that about? so [00:53:40] much to cover, not least, what is Iran, up to in Fairfold and perhaps [00:53:44] beyond all on the late show live after [00:53:46] this? [00:53:52] today clouds overhead, totals [00:53:55] and within. box solar sponsors the weather [00:53:59] on GB News. evening, welcome to your latest weather update from the [00:54:03] Met office here on GB. news very mild tonight, also [00:54:07] very windy for some [00:54:08] and the mild blustery weather continues tomorrow, there'll be some sunshine, but there will [00:54:12] also be a spell of heavy rain moving through thanks to this little area of [00:54:16] low pressure, it's intensifying developing as it moves up towards the northwest, that's [00:54:20] where the strongest winds will be getting quite gusty and windy this evening [00:54:24] across Northern Ireland with a spell of heavy rain moving through here and turning very [00:54:28] windy indeed across the highlands of Scotland and particularly the western is [00:54:31] through the early hours that spell of rainal sweep through the central belt and entually turn up [00:54:35] in western parts of Wales, so much of England and Wales though, just a dank, [00:54:39] murky, drizzly old night, but very mild temperatures hauling up at [00:54:42] 14-15 degrees, so it won't be a cold start to Tuesday, could be quite a [00:54:46] wet start, however, the spell of rain edging its way through, [00:54:50] generally dry over the midlands, much of eastern England, but there's that [00:54:54] area of rain, it could be quite heavy in places, this rain, particularly over parts of [00:54:57] Northwest England, the wet and windy weather sweeps through Northern Ireland, but then we're left [00:55:01] with showers coming in for Tuesday morning, the rain... by the time we [00:55:05] get to Russia should be pulling away from the east coast of Scotland, so skies [00:55:09] brightening pretty rapidly here, but then more showers packing into western [00:55:13] Scotland a brisk wind, the winds will be as strong as they will be overnight, but [00:55:17] nevertheless quite noticeable, that spell of rain then works its way across east anglia and [00:55:21] the southeast, doesn't bring a huge amount of rain, doesn't last all that long, [00:55:25] and look at that, the afternoon largely sunny across the south, further north there'll be sunny [00:55:29] spells, but there will also be some blustery, gusty showers, [00:55:33] still mild temperatures in the... to high teens, maybe over 20 [00:55:36] celsius across the southeast, turning a little cooler Tuesday [00:55:40] night into Wednesday morning, a little bit fresher first thing, but generally dry [00:55:44] fine day across much the south, some early morning mist and fog, but then more [00:55:48] wet and very windy weather, potentially coming into the northwest, need to [00:55:52] keep an eye on that, again elsewhere generally dry and bright and [00:55:56] still quite mild with temperatures perhaps up to 20 [00:55:58] celsius, today clouds [00:56:02] overhead, turtals within [00:56:06] box solar sponsors the weather on GB [00:56:09] News [00:56:14] Christmas is a time for family traditions like putting up the [00:56:18] perfect tree, adding your favorite decorations old [00:56:22] and new, so as they grow up before your eyes, keep your family [00:56:26] traditions alive with an ultra realistic tree and make [00:56:29] Christmas magical. with our 10-year tree foliage [00:56:33] guarantee, it'll be... at the heart of your Christmas traditions for [00:56:37] many years to come.
