[00:00:00] let's talk about the measels [00:00:09] You have been placing nearly all the blame uh [00:00:12] on the COVID pandemic and the way that the [00:00:15] US responded to it squarely with Dr. Fauti, [00:00:19] but of course he worked for President Trump. Does President Trump [00:00:22] also deserve some of the blame? [00:00:26] Well, President Trump, as you recall, wanted to... [00:00:30] "and the lockdowns, I think the the thing that did the [00:00:33] most damage to our country was the lockdowns, the [00:00:37] lockdowns that shut down 3.5 million [00:00:40] businesses in our country with no due process, no just compensation, all [00:00:44] of our churches closed our schools and our [00:00:48] children are still paying the price for that, and [00:00:51] yet we had the worst outcome of [00:00:54] any country in the world, how so we have the highest death [00:00:58] rate from COVID of any nation." [00:01:00] Well let me just let me just say because I've heard you say that before on the death [00:01:04] rate from COVID um it's not accurate [00:01:07] because [00:01:09] public health experts say that there is a combination of [00:01:12] factors that went into that, higher rates of chronic illness is, which [00:01:16] I know you would agree with, gaps to our healthcare system and [00:01:19] misinformation about vaccines, you just said what [00:01:22] I said was inaccurate, what I said was accurate, we have the [00:01:26] highest death rate from COVID, [00:01:30] there are other countries that had higher, but you can [00:01:32] argue about why we had [00:01:35] that, but um, you nobody can [00:01:39] tell you, mean we have, as you say, we have the highest chronic disease [00:01:43] bird in the world, but anthony found she was [00:01:46] mismanaging the covid pandemic and he was doing it under [00:01:49] the biden administration, president trump wanted to end the [00:01:53] lockdowns and in fact in Anthony's [00:01:56] diaries he talks about how president Trump is calling them [00:02:00] every day trying to get them to reopen the country. yeah, [00:02:04] well, the lockdowns were done by governors. mean, [00:02:07] certainly Anthony Fouchy and the president had opinions, but the lockdowns [00:02:11] were done by governors and largely because and largely [00:02:14] because largely because they were hearing, they were [00:02:18] hearing from hospitals saying that their ICUs were [00:02:23] study after study after study, it's one of overrun and they needed some help while that was happening. that's not true. that's just not true. you're saying [00:02:27] it's not true. no, they were doing it because Anthony. [00:02:30] was telling them from the top, you need to lock down, there [00:02:34] were ICUs that were empty all over the country, including in New York [00:02:38] at the height. I i'm asking you, going to [00:02:41] go back to what I asked you at the beginning, which is President [00:02:45] Trump, and he was the guy in charge, and he [00:02:49] you tweeted back in 2024 [00:02:52] that he let bureaucrats like Anthony Fauti [00:02:56] shut down the entire country, um, again, [00:03:00] he the president was in charge, the president was trying to reopen the [00:03:03] country when he left, the country [00:03:06] was state was kept closed for another year, almost a year and a half [00:03:11] something that you cannot show me after that. let's talk about how to prevent the next pandemic um, [00:03:15] because there's a lot of litigating and relitigating that I don't think is really [00:03:19] helpful to do with regard to COVID, and the [00:03:22] question is about uh so-called gain of function, [00:03:26] which uh, for people who aren't entirely clear about it, [00:03:30] "it is, it is a highly risky research process that [00:03:34] includes manipulating virus to study how it [00:03:37] behaves as it evolves. now what scientists say is [00:03:41] that, although it's controversial, it's necessary to prepare [00:03:45] for the next pandemic to get ahead of it, to figure out what [00:03:48] these viruses can do. um, what you want to [00:03:52] end this gain of function research? some scientists [00:03:55] say, isn't it better just to put better guard rails around [00:03:59] it?" "people have been trying to put guard [00:04:03] rails around it for generations and it hasn't worked and [00:04:06] clearly COVID-19 pandemic and many other [00:04:10] global pandemics that we have have come from gain of function [00:04:14] research, the RSV [00:04:17] epidemic that we have that is the biggest killer of kids in this country [00:04:20] today came from these kind of experiments, the [00:04:24] lime disease almost certainly came from this kind of [00:04:27] research, so ' [00:04:30] "and the scientists, who you say are [00:04:33] experts, are making the argument that this is [00:04:36] necessary for pandemic response, cannot [00:04:39] point to one instance in history where [00:04:43] research that came out of this kind of experimentation [00:04:47] as actually provided us something [00:04:50] beneficial, so how do you prepare then, how do you prepare for the [00:04:53] next pandemic? I mean, that's literally part of your job now, [00:04:57] because experts think it's going to happen within the next 10." years again, [00:05:00] yeah, I mean, I think we did everything wrong the last time, [00:05:04] so what about now, the principal thing that we need to do is we need to [00:05:08] listen to what's happening to doctors on the ground, there are [00:05:12] 50'. million frontline physicians around the [00:05:14] world, they're mainly now connected through the [00:05:18] internet. we can tell on the front lines, what's working and [00:05:21] what's not. if we had listened to those [00:05:25] doctors during the COVID pandemic, we would have saved [00:05:28] potentially millions of lives. there were [00:05:30] therapeutics out there that were working, there were doctors [00:05:34] that were having no deaths from COVID, and treating in some [00:05:37] cases thousands of patients and we weren't listening [00:05:41] to them and said we were doing... opposite, we were shutting them [00:05:44] down, and then the other thing that I would say [00:05:48] is that um, we need to protect our constitutional [00:05:51] rights, that that is the primary [00:05:54] obligation, [00:05:56] what does that mean? well, during covid, we completely dismantled our constitutional rights, [00:06:00] we began censoring people and violations, [00:06:03] but you're saying what not to do, I'm asking what to [00:06:06] do, but I, but I want to talk about, well that's something to do, that's that is the [00:06:10] number one priority. we protect the constitution, [00:06:14] the constitution was forgive me, but you're just you're talking about rights and [00:06:18] I'm asking about a potential public health [00:06:21] crisis that is that is coming, but I do want to [00:06:24] let's, and one of the mistakes we made in the last [00:06:27] time was suppressing those rights so people [00:06:30] weren't being heard, the doctors who were saying you're doing it [00:06:34] wrong, were being marginalized and [00:06:37] villified and because because again I really want to [00:06:41] move on, but Yeah, of course, because you were [00:06:44] part of the problem, no, I wasn't part of the problem, it was [00:06:47] absolute press malpractice, you were [00:06:50] allowing your job, your job, your job is [00:06:54] fear skepticism toward authority, and you weren't [00:06:58] doing that, you were [00:06:59] beating, [00:07:02] no, okay, are you going to, you want to sit here and attack me or do you want to have [00:07:05] conversations about public health, I'm not attacking you, I'm asking questions [00:07:09] about how to prevent the next question, and I'll tell you. what I'm trying [00:07:13] to do, but I also don't want to use [00:07:16] this interview to allow you to say things that aren't [00:07:20] entirely true, you're talking about therapeutics, fine, it is also [00:07:23] factually true that the COVID vaccine [00:07:27] worked, the COVID vaccine prevented deaths, there is data [00:07:30] upon data upon data, [00:07:34] please, because this is something that is happening as as we [00:07:37] speak, the cases protected [00:07:41] children. "I think that what I have talked [00:07:44] to scientists and doctors about scientists, can you look, can you [00:07:48] show me one study? Yes, I can, that shows that I [00:07:52] can, children were protected by the COVID vaccine. I, I can tell you that [00:07:55] there are vaccine did more good than harm to children. Can you show me [00:07:59] one study that shows that? I can tell you that when it comes to the [00:08:03] vaccine, there have been studies that show that because of [00:08:07] vaccine disinformation, disinformation, there could have [00:08:11] been 100 to..." lives in the US [00:08:14] saved, but because people didn't get the vaccine, that's [00:08:18] why I'm not saying that it [00:08:20] saying nonsense, you are saying [00:08:24] a single, I am not saying [00:08:26] nonsense, talking told you, [00:08:30] excuse me, [00:08:34] no, what studies are you talking about, you're talking about studies that actually don't [00:08:37] exist, I want to talk about, you're [00:08:41] talking about it, [00:08:43] study me the study, this is not productive, I am not here to [00:08:47] defend all of the let me finish, talking nonsense, making assertions [00:08:51] you can't support, and then when I call you on them there, you're telling me [00:08:54] that I'm arguing, okay, you want to talk about, you want to talk about assertions that you can't [00:08:58] support, I'll get there in a second, let me just [00:09:01] say for the record that I am not saying that the entire way that [00:09:05] the COVID uh reaction was accurate, it [00:09:08] was a scary time and people made mistakes [00:09:11] absolutely. scaring people, why are you saying that? [00:09:15] because that was the job of CNN, okay, was to put [00:09:18] the kyrons up about how many people are, we were trying [00:09:22] to be, we were listening to the leaders in this [00:09:25] country, including the president who had a daily press conference, [00:09:29] explaining what was going on and trying to [00:09:31] listen, [00:09:33] actually, were you reading the science yourself, the measles cases in the [00:09:37] US just reached a 35-year high, the [00:09:41] second uh, record breaking year in a row, [00:09:44] 93% of these cases are among the unvaccinated. the [00:09:48] outbreak is happening on your watch, and [00:09:50] even be before becoming HHS secretary for [00:09:54] years, you've been one of the leading voices questioning [00:09:57] the efficacy of vaccines. do you accept some [00:10:00] responsibility for this measel's outbreak? [00:10:04] absolutely not. first of all, this is an international [00:10:07] outbreak, so and we're doing better at [00:10:11] handling it than any country in the... [00:10:13] Mexico has 15 times the amount of measles per [00:10:17] capita that we have, Canada has four [00:10:20] times, [00:10:22] England has two times that I call. those measles outbreak, [00:10:26] you're the most famous, i cause, and i cause 137, [00:10:30] cases, you're the most famous vaccine skeptic on the planet, [00:10:33] let me tell you, because actually anthony faulty in his [00:10:36] diaries answers the question about why we're having a measles [00:10:40] outbreak right now, the reason we're having a miss outbreak [00:10:43] because the covid lockdowns, because people didn't like [00:10:46] children during that period did not get [00:10:49] vaccinated, and in his diaries he says [00:10:53] this is going to cause massive outbreaks and measles and [00:10:56] more children, he says this are going to die, let me finish cuz you could accuse [00:11:00] me of something, let me didn't, i asked you a question, [00:11:04] yeah, let me give you the answer, he says in his diaries, [00:11:07] more children are going to die from measels because of these [00:11:11] lockdowns than covid, so if you want to [00:11:14] know and that age group that should have got the MMR when [00:11:18] they're 18 months and didn't get it, they're the ones being [00:11:21] infected, the people in this country and we have stopped [00:11:24] the... outbreaks at record speed in South Carolina, in [00:11:28] Texas and Utah, in Virginia. We've done [00:11:31] better than any country in the world. I dispatch immediately the epidemic [00:11:35] intelligence services to those states, I get on the phone with the [00:11:38] governor and we stop them in their tracks, nobody else has been able to do that. You have [00:11:42] bully bl. Let me tell you just one last thing, go [00:11:45] ahead. The the communities that are [00:11:48] suffering from mezels are almost [00:11:51] all religious communities that just don't vaccinate. the the [00:11:55] menonides have not vaccinated since 1796 since Edward [00:11:59] Jenner invented the smallpox vaccine, [00:12:02] you it's hard to blame that on me, as much as you want to blame, no, I don't want to blame you, I'm [00:12:06] asking you because you have very powerful voice on these issues for [00:12:10] people who are skeptical that, let me finish, let me finish, and I've never [00:12:13] questioned the efficacy of the MMR vaccine, okay, let me, let [00:12:17] me finish, what I want you to do is please use [00:12:21] your bully pulpet to right now, as we're getting close to back to school, [00:12:25] say, are you willing to say to parents who have not [00:12:29] vaccinated their kids that they should vaccinate their kids for [00:12:32] measles because it is safe and it will help them save [00:12:36] their children's lives. i we tell people on my [00:12:39] websites, my public profe say right now that [00:12:42] people parents should get their children vaccinated for [00:12:45] measles. measle vaccine is [00:12:48] effective, it it stops mezels in about [00:12:51] 97% of the cases, but people should get. [00:12:55] vaccinated, can I ask you, the Wall Street Journal reported that the president is [00:12:58] pressuring you to conduct studies probing the link between [00:13:02] vaccines and autism, is that true? did you [00:13:05] say probing the link? that what what the [00:13:08] wall, I'm just quoting the Wall Street Journal, that they that the president [00:13:11] wants you to go further to probe the link [00:13:15] between autism and vaccines, he certainly [00:13:18] does. okay, now [00:13:21] have you talked to him about medical research that have studied this? [00:13:25] for 25 years and found no link between autism and [00:13:28] vaccines, and and and just this is my question here, [00:13:32] because I don't want to litigate that. My question is, why not, [00:13:36] because you are HHS secretary now, why not [00:13:39] study what could cause autism, which scientists do [00:13:43] believe starts with fetal brain [00:13:46] development. Why not do some studies on that, whether there's [00:13:50] your environmental lawyer, whether there are environmental factors that [00:13:53] go into cont'. to a predisposed genetic [00:13:57] situation? let me say this first, we're doing all [00:14:00] those things and as one of the ways that we found tyenal, there's [00:14:03] 73 studies out there and [00:14:07] tynal exposure during later pregnancy and during the [00:14:10] perinatal period to to artist [00:14:13] monset, [00:14:15] but you are wrong when you say that this issue has [00:14:19] been studied, it has been studied and you're rolling your eyes [00:14:23] and I don't want to, I don't want to have you use our [00:14:26] air to say this, there have been more than 40 studies involving [00:14:30] 5.6 million people to conclude there is no [00:14:33] link between vaccines and autism, this is the head of the committee of [00:14:37] infectious diseases for the American Academy of people, now let me tell [00:14:41] you what the Institute of Medicine is says, [00:14:44] which is the National Academy of Sciences, which is [00:14:48] the ultimate arbiter on vaccine safety and which it does not [00:14:52] have an interest in this debate, it says: [00:14:55] none of the eight vaccines that are [00:14:58] administered during the first six months of life have ever [00:15:02] been studied for relationship to autism and [00:15:05] found two studies, one on the DTP [00:15:08] vaccine and show that it does cause autism [00:15:12] and one on the hepatitis B vaccine, that again [00:15:15] suggests that it does cause autism. the institute of [00:15:19] Medicine dismissed those two studies because they were based on CDC's [00:15:23] database, studies that you're referring to are [00:15:27] all for one vaccine, the MMR vaccine or one [00:15:30] ingredient thy marosol, so you are using, you are actually [00:15:34] looking at, you're starting new studies to try to link... [00:15:37] but you're also telling me i'm not trying to link autism to anything, i'm trying to find [00:15:41] out why has autism gone [00:15:44] from also trying to find out how it interacts [00:15:48] with people's dna, what's predisposed [00:15:51] to uh to to have autistic child? are you doing [00:15:54] both? yeah, but but you probably don't [00:15:58] understand this because you're not a scientist, but [00:16:01] jeans don't cause epidemic, i understand jeans [00:16:05] epidemic vulnerability. [00:16:09] environmental, that's what I'm asking, are you studying the environmental at all the different environmental [00:16:13] exposures, but your statement, you have been [00:16:17] fooled, your statement that this has been studied [00:16:20] is not true, it's [00:16:21] categorical, it is [00:16:25] considered, considered by who, by [00:16:29] every scientist who has studied this, that is not true, [00:16:32] I can give you hundreds of scientists who have looked at this, so on the [00:16:35] one hand, do you understand why? [00:16:38] national academy of sciences, what greater authority? do you understand why [00:16:41] people are not getting measles vaccines? because you're hearing you say that it could [00:16:45] cause you're trying to change the subject i'm not, it's very much related, [00:16:49] show me one of the studies that's been done on the first eight the [00:16:53] vaccines during the first six months of life, you will not find them. [00:16:57] the national academy of sciences say if that's the case why are you telling people to [00:17:00] get the mazel because that is one of the [00:17:03] vaccines that has been studied, [00:17:06] okay? the only one that has been studied, do you want [00:17:10] people to get the the MMR vaccine? yeah, I [00:17:14] said that already. okay, so I know you're flustered now, and it [00:17:17] is, I don't, I'm not fltered at [00:17:19] all, [00:17:22] honest with the reason I'm frustrated is because I, you are [00:17:25] the HHS, you are the HHS secretary, [00:17:29] and you are talking about things that that [00:17:33] that lead to vaccine hesitancy in this [00:17:36] country and... and it is [00:17:39] something that causes problems for [00:17:42] people when there is not anything, let me ask you [00:17:44] something, do you see your job [00:17:48] as ending vaccine hesitancy or do you see your job [00:17:51] is telling the truth to the American people? I see my job is telling the [00:17:54] truth, and the truth is that there is is [00:18:00] the most studied things out there in science, you're repeating it like [00:18:04] a parot, you're repeating it like a parrot. [00:18:07] so I've actually read the science, let's you come back [00:18:11] here and debate the science, I'm not debating this video, of course you [00:18:14] want, all you know how to do is repeat [00:18:18] things that people told you and say trust the experts, that's what you do [00:18:22] during covid, now we know that Anthony Foucie who was the [00:18:26] expert was lying about everything, about mass, about the [00:18:29] social distancing, about natural immunity, about the [00:18:32] transmission from the vaccine, about the [00:18:36] source of COVID, he was lying and you were punishing [00:18:39] people for not trusting the experts and now you're rolling out the [00:18:43] experts again to talk about something that you have no [00:18:47] personal knowledge of. okay, well guess what, that is my [00:18:51] job to talk to people, your job is to [00:18:53] talk, yes, yes, and my job is to get as much [00:18:57] information as i can, and what we were [00:18:59] doing, [00:19:01] skepticism, [00:19:04] in covid and and still with regard. to these [00:19:07] vaccines is getting the best information, the best science that we [00:19:11] can, and putting it out there, and sir, you what you are doing [00:19:15] is causing information to be out there that [00:19:18] is not accurate, was lying to you, the National Academy of [00:19:21] Sciences, which you just cited in November [00:19:25] said, we support the statement that vaccines do not cause [00:19:29] autism, this is the National Academy of Sciences that you just talked [00:19:32] about, look at the National Academy of [00:19:35] Science most recent report, Okay, and you'll see. I don't, I, I, I [00:19:39] want to ask you one other question, because it's something that really did help [00:19:43] Donald Trump get elected, and that is the Maha Movement, and [00:19:46] specifically the question of process foods, of [00:19:50] processed foods and uh, the fact [00:19:52] that people want to feel that their food is safe. My understanding [00:19:56] is that you're pushing for reforms on food safety and [00:19:59] ultra-processed foods that have been slowed, in some cases [00:20:03] blocked by people in the administration who are working on behalf of the [00:20:06] industries. true? [00:20:10] no, that is not true. so you feel that you'll be [00:20:13] able to get these reforms done without any problems? i think the [00:20:17] grass, um, the two big reforms that you're probably talking about is [00:20:20] ultrapocess food definition, exactly, and [00:20:24] the grass standards, and they've both gone through extensive interagency [00:20:27] process. i'm very confident that we will get them [00:20:30] both out there within probably a month. well, i'm sorry that [00:20:34] this uh, and that's good news for people who are very. moms [00:20:37] and I'm one of them who are very worried about making sure [00:20:41] that our kids eat food and we eat food that is that is healthy, um, [00:20:45] I'm sorry that this turned into a [00:20:48] very contentious convers'. and um my [00:20:52] job is to try to get the best information out [00:20:55] there and it does concern me when um you [00:20:59] come in and say things that have [00:21:02] i take what you're saying have been yeah [00:21:05] people who have science scientific backgrounds [00:21:09] and have tried to talk to you as well thank you for [00:21:12] coming [00:21:14] in [00:21:19] protects 100 mg for people with high and very high risk of [00:21:23] cardiovascular diseases to reduce the risk of acute [00:21:26] heart stroke. Before use, carefully read the drug leaflet for information on indications, [00:21:30] precautions, and side effects. Consult a doctor or pharmacist. [00:21:33] Bayer. [00:21:38] I'd do it better. Ožujsko beer, like everything else here, [00:21:41] originated from the "I'd do it better" mentality. They made a [00:21:45] super ad again for Ožujsko. Oh, I'd [00:21:48] do [00:21:50] it better. [00:21:55] Today we are talking about problems that are very common: fatigue, [00:21:58] exhaustion, muscle cramps, stress, and [00:22:02] poor sleep. With us is Dr. Jasmina Ćorović [00:22:05] Kuburović, better known as the heart doctor. Good day, [00:22:08] Doctor. Thank you for the invitation. These symptoms are [00:22:11] often a sign that the body lacks magnesium, but it is one of [00:22:15] the most important minerals for the proper functioning of muscles and the nervous [00:22:19] system. but our energy, who is magnesium [00:22:22] especially recommended for? It is recommended for people who experience fatigue, [00:22:26] feelings of weakness, difficulty moving, as well as cramps and muscle [00:22:30] pains, and pains in the shoulders, back, and [00:22:33] neck. It is really very important for people who [00:22:37] have poor bones, osteoporosis, arthritis, or [00:22:40] rheumatism, as well as for those who have hormonal [00:22:43] imbalance and therefore increased sweating, then for people [00:22:47] who feel restless, irritable, anxious, [00:22:51] stressed, who have frequent headaches, decreased [00:22:54] concentration, problems with sleeping, and it is also [00:22:57] very important for heart problems, high [00:23:01] blood pressure, problems with poor circulation. [00:23:04] Of course, we cannot forget athletes, diabetics, [00:23:08] women in menopause, and older people. Doctor, how does this [00:23:12] magnesium differ from the others on the market? Well, [00:23:16] first of all, the magnesium in this preparation comes in several forms, such [00:23:19] as citrate, malate, bisglycinate, and others, which means that it is much [00:23:23] better absorbed and utilized in the body. Precisely because of this, [00:23:26] it acts more effectively on muscles, reduces cramps, [00:23:29] relaxes the body, helps with fatigue and stress, and therefore this [00:23:33] combination does not act on one symptom, but acts simultaneously [00:23:36] on energy, reduces fatigue, relaxes [00:23:40] muscles, helps the body to completely change [00:23:44] that functionality into something much more stable and stronger. If [00:23:47] you recognize yourself in these problems, now is [00:23:51] the right time to react. Call immediately [00:23:54] 08050057 and with two packages [00:23:58] of magnesium, we are sending you another magnesium as a [00:24:02] gift, completely free, with free [00:24:05] shipping. This combination is recommended [00:24:08] to all of you who experience fatigue, feelings [00:24:11] of weakness, difficulty moving, cramps or muscle [00:24:14] pain, shoulder pain, back or [00:24:17] neck pain, bone problems, osteoporosis, [00:24:20] arthritis, rheumatism, stress, nervousness, anxiety, [00:24:24] insomnia, headaches and lack of concentration, heart [00:24:28] and blood pressure problems, poor circulation and energy, [00:24:32] call now and take advantage of the promotion [00:24:35] while it lasts because the gifts are in limited [00:24:38] quantities. Aspirin Protect 100 milligrams, recommended for [00:24:59] people with a high and very high risk of [00:25:02] cardiovascular diseases, to reduce the risk of acute [00:25:05] heart attack and stroke. Before use, carefully read the drug leaflet for information about [00:25:09] indications, precautions, side effects, etc. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. [00:25:12] Bayer. [00:25:32] Moving mountains at the push of a [00:25:34] button. [00:25:38] It might sound like science fiction, but in the Swiss [00:25:40] Alps, it may soon become reality. In the [00:25:44] Gotthard massif, researchers at the University of Zurich [00:25:47] hope to trigger a small earthquake. If [00:25:51] it works, it could reveal more about how earthquakes [00:25:54] start and whether they can be [00:25:56] predicted. [00:26:00] All this and more groundbreaking stories. [00:26:12] The big moment is just days away. Researchers at [00:26:16] ETH University are hoping to do something that's never been [00:26:19] done in quite this way before, deliberately triggering a small [00:26:23] earthquake. [00:26:26] But first, there's still plenty of work to [00:26:28] do. [00:26:31] A narrow road is 2 and a half kilometers deep into the Gotthard [00:26:35] Massif. The [00:26:38] range is more than 50 years old and no longer in [00:26:41] use. And now it's a perfect natural [00:26:44] laboratory. Here the team hopes to make ancient fault [00:26:47] deep inside the rock slip ever so slightly. We [00:26:51] sind here wegen. We're here because of this fault zone. You can see the [00:26:54] boundary here clearly, a thin line. In the [00:26:58] middle, there's this very brittle material called fault gauge. [00:27:03] That's evidence that the rock has slipped along this fault line [00:27:06] before. This is where we're hoping to trigger a magnitude [00:27:10] one earthquake. auf diese zone möchten wir ein magnitude 1 [00:27:13] erdbeben auslösen. A [00:27:16] magnitude one quake is tiny, far too small to be [00:27:19] felt by humans at the surface, but it could reveal [00:27:22] how earthquakes actually [00:27:23] begin. [00:27:27] es geht darum, die [00:27:28] mikrophysik. [00:27:32] happens when an earthquake starts, how does the [00:27:35] rupture propagate? Why does it continue, and where and why [00:27:39] does it stop? If we understand the underlying physics [00:27:42] better, perhaps one day we'll be able to make better [00:27:44] forecasts. [00:27:47] Men and his 70- member team have been planning and [00:27:51] building this experiment for five years. They've installed more [00:27:55] than 200 sensors inside the mountain, hoping to capture [00:27:58] every moment of the earthquake as it unfolds. [00:28:04] Here's how they plan to trigger it. The fault has [00:28:06] slipped naturally before, producing tiny [00:28:09] earthquakes. [00:28:14] To reach it, the team has excavated a new tunnel branching [00:28:18] off from the Bedretto lab. [00:28:22] From here, they'll pump water through three boreholes directly [00:28:25] into the fault. [00:28:28] As water pressure increases, the rock begins to shift. The [00:28:32] existing stresses in the rock are released, triggering micro [00:28:36] earthquake. [00:28:40] Using six high-pressure pumps, they'll inject around [00:28:43] 2,000 cubic meters of water into the boreholes to bring [00:28:46] the fault to the point where it [00:28:48] slips. [00:28:50] The pump system operates at pressures approaching 200 bar, a [00:28:54] demanding test for the equipment and a potential [00:28:57] hazard for anyone inside the [00:28:59] tunnel. [00:29:02] The anchoring systems, they're [00:29:05] secured with chains and anchor pins in case the pressure becomes too [00:29:08] high and part of the pipe work [00:29:09] comes [00:29:13] that could be quite dangerous because there's so much pressure behind it. [00:29:27] The team checks every sensor and seismic instrument again and [00:29:31] again. [00:29:35] They want to make sure that all the data will stream live to the control [00:29:39] room at ETH Zurich where the experiment will be [00:29:42] run. [00:29:45] We're about to launch the first full-scale experiment. It's [00:29:47] exciting. [00:29:51] Two weeks later, the control room in Zurich. In just a few [00:29:55] minutes the test will [00:29:56] begin. [00:30:01] One last systems. [00:30:09] It's been a busy night and morning, but everything looks good and we're ready to [00:30:12] go. The researchers are [00:30:16] optimistic, the pumps are ready and the safety systems are in [00:30:20] place. [00:30:23] So this button is to manually stop the [00:30:26] pump, so we can press this button. Once we have it pressed [00:30:30] for about eight seconds, the pumps in the tunnel stop [00:30:32] automatically, and this is a safety procedure that will allow [00:30:36] to have a bit more control. The [00:30:39] last members of the team have just left the tunnel. This is [00:30:43] steam to, and that's pressure up by one [00:30:45] megapascal. Here we [00:30:47] go. [00:30:54] The pumps are starting up, forcing water deep into the bore [00:30:57] holes.
