[00:00:00] and so on, somewhere as if [00:00:02] everyone, as if everyone pulls to their own side, right? The government is busy with itself, [00:00:06] as I said, persistently appointing suitable [00:00:10] and not capable people, citizens are looking for solutions in [00:00:13] their own way, activists are trying to somehow help [00:00:17] citizens to at least live some procedures in some areas [00:00:21] of life as easily as possible, but it's really as if we don't listen [00:00:24] to each other at all, why don't we play for the same team? Exactly, that's right, exactly [00:00:28] right, and citizens suffer. [00:00:30] misconfiguration. By a [00:00:34] Thank you for [00:00:35] the invitation. [00:04:43] sa djekarom ili farmaceutom [00:04:45] Bayer. [00:04:48] We return to the show New Day. The sponsor of the show is the General [00:04:52] Hospital Medikana [00:04:53] Sarajevo. [00:05:03] Modrac, about rivers, about [00:05:07] lakes, about places in Bosnia and Herzegovina where [00:05:11] citizens, more and more often, seek to cool off. We will talk about [00:05:15] that next, because in recent days, high [00:05:18] temperatures fill those rivers, lakes, and swimming pools across [00:05:22] the country. Many seek refuge from the heat in natural [00:05:25] swimming areas. However, what seems like refreshment can turn into [00:05:29] danger in a few seconds. That is why we will talk about [00:05:32] that this morning, about the most common situations in which [00:05:35] rescuers have to intervene. My guest this morning [00:05:39] is Senad Strukan from the GSS station Sarajevo. Good morning... Welcome [00:05:42] to the new day. Good morning to you, your viewers, and thank you for the invitation. It's [00:05:46] great to see these professional divers on [00:05:50] diving boards across Bosnia and Herzegovina, so [00:05:52] tourist stages as we called them, here on Bendbaša, [00:05:56] recently in Mostar, on Pliva in Jajce, so [00:06:00] some other lakes and bathing areas are being revived, [00:06:04] which are becoming more and more popular, because it seems people, [00:06:07] due to the economic situation, but it seems to me that some need and [00:06:11] trend to... rest more where temperatures are more [00:06:14] acceptable, and they have long ceased to be so [00:06:17] by the sea, they are looking for alternatives. What [00:06:21] do you see in the field, are people flocking [00:06:24] to lakes, to rivers, swimming pools, those natural [00:06:27] refreshments that we have in Bosnia and Herzegovina? First of all, I will say that [00:06:31] I am glad to see that more and more of our citizens [00:06:34] dare, I would say, to explore our [00:06:38] natural beauties of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because we were witnesses until [00:06:41] a few years ago. "I would say until Corona, only during Corona did the exploration [00:06:45] of our beauties begin, we were not aware of what [00:06:48] all we have, now we see that trend where [00:06:52] more and more of our citizens visit those natural beauties of ours, in [00:06:55] fact they discover something that they absolutely didn't know [00:06:59] existed here, but they were looking for it in the neighborhood, in [00:07:02] Croatia, in Montenegro. What do we have, how many of those [00:07:06] swimming areas are there, are they more safe or unsafe, and what [00:07:09] is the most common perception of people when it comes to the lake?" when [00:07:12] it comes to the river it is difficult to [00:07:16] generalize, there are safe locations, there are [00:07:19] risky locations, potentially dangerous locations and so [00:07:22] on. What everything [00:07:26] depends on the individual, right? What kind of [00:07:29] swimmer are they, how do they manage in these locations? The safest [00:07:33] option is definitely publicly regulated swimming areas. They should be [00:07:37] the safest, because if it's a publicly regulated swimming area, [00:07:40] there should be some lifeguards there who can react in [00:07:44] a situation. How many such are there? Which are the most popular? You are most often [00:07:48] in Herzegovina, you say, right? Well, I am somewhat connected to that [00:07:52] part of northern Herzegovina. I spend a lot of time there, especially on [00:07:55] the Neretva river, right? But we have a problem that the law [00:07:59] does not clearly define and prescribe how a public [00:08:03] swimming area should be regulated. There are some regulations that, unfortunately, in most [00:08:06] cases are not followed. Where they are most followed are... [00:08:10] private pools, swimming areas that people, people [00:08:14] built, created, opened to the public in order to [00:08:17] protect themselves, they simply became certain, so everything else [00:08:21] is at your own risk more or less, yes, with the caveat [00:08:25] that the risk is much lower if you swim in a public [00:08:28] swimming area where there are many more people who can potentially [00:08:32] react. Which public swimming area is that, which lake? [00:08:35] For example, I would take Boračko Lake, which is a beautiful [00:08:39] lake that has been used for tens of hundreds [00:08:42] of years. People use it, swim in it, unfortunately [00:08:45] accidents happen, but it is [00:08:49] a beautiful swimming area in a natural environment, where the danger [00:08:52] is, I would say, minimal, if certain [00:08:55] rules are again respected. And the [00:08:58] river, the river is specific, [00:09:02] specific in terms of safety. I will take the Neretva river as [00:09:05] an example again. In its course, there are calm [00:09:09] parts where the water is ankle-deep, where you can wade, you can [00:09:13] yes. [00:09:20] In the middle course, for example, when you enter [00:09:23] the canyon of the Neretva River, it becomes a completely wild river [00:09:26] and then certain specific technical knowledge and [00:09:30] skills are required that people must have in order [00:09:33] to be able to cope there. If you want to experience that part [00:09:37] of the river, the best recommendation is rafting, mhm, where you [00:09:41] engage... professional rafting guides who [00:09:45] take you down the river canyon and you have the opportunity, right, to [00:09:48] experience something that you otherwise cannot experience from the road. [00:09:52] Trebižat is mentioned by many and people increasingly [00:09:55] choose to cool off in this river. What makes [00:09:59] it specific and is it for more experienced [00:10:03] people or for everyone? To be honest, I don't have much [00:10:06] experience with Trebižat, I visited it a couple of times [00:10:10] and I was really impressed by its beauty. And that's probably what [00:10:13] attracts people, its beauty that [00:10:16] uh, of course, the nature that surrounds the [00:10:20] river itself and the opportunity to swim there, [00:10:23] refresh ourselves. I think it's... it's much [00:10:27] more comfortable for staying and for that recreational variant than [00:10:30] other rivers such as Neretva, Una, Tara, which [00:10:34] are much, much faster and larger rivers. In which lakes or rivers would you not [00:10:38] recommend swimming? [00:10:41] Well, again, I say because of all the factors, generally speaking, when you take [00:10:44] into account the water temperature, [00:10:47] and the rapids, and the current, and the flora and fauna, [00:10:51] everything somehow combined, well, again, I say it's hard to generalize. [00:10:55] The Neretva is a beautiful river, and you can swim in its calmer [00:10:58] parts. Once you pass that calm part, it is no longer recommended [00:11:02] for swimming. So, there are [00:11:04] parts, that's right, most rivers with natural riverbeds, right? There are [00:11:08] rivers that have regulated artificial riverbeds, that's a slightly different situation, that's [00:11:12] absolutely not recommended, but it's pointless for me to tell people, [00:11:16] citizens of Sarajevo, not to swim in Miljacka, nobody swims in [00:11:19] it anyway. People used to swim in Bosnica, people used to swim in Željeznica too, [00:11:22] well, those are some past old times. [00:11:25] On, well, more or less those [00:11:28] rivers are polluted. Rakitnica is also a beautiful river, [00:11:31] however, it is specific due to its canyon, that [00:11:34] is, we are lucky, right, that we have in [00:11:38] Bosnia and Herzegovina two canyons that have entered [00:11:42] world statistics, more precisely European statistics, [00:11:45] the Tara River canyon is the second largest, that is, the first [00:11:49] largest, deepest canyon, the Rakitnica River, its canyon [00:11:52] is the second largest in Europe. In [00:11:56] world statistics too, well, you see, we learned something [00:11:59] this morning. Now I'm listening to you, I'm mentioning rivers that [00:12:03] come to mind, and I'm thinking that [00:12:07] there's a lot of potential, but unfortunately we haven't organized any of it [00:12:10] and that people could [00:12:13] somehow look for and find alternatives to swimming in these [00:12:16] hot summer days if they were sure that [00:12:20] children and adults were safe. So I would [00:12:24] like these rivers, lakes not to be an alternative, [00:12:27] but a primary choice, for the sea to be an alternative, [00:12:31] because it is truly enjoyable, it is really beautiful on [00:12:35] those rivers. Maybe I am subjective because I spend a lot [00:12:38] of time on the river, but I prefer swimming in the river and [00:12:42] having that active [00:12:45] type of vacation compared to the sea where you just, [00:12:49] now what all happens on the river, you unfortunately, besides enjoying the [00:12:52] rivers, very often intervene. Because of what..." [00:12:55] Most often, what do people carelessly do that puts themselves [00:12:59] in danger? Well, more or less in all other [00:13:02] situations where people are in danger, [00:13:05] very often that danger arises from underestimating the environment [00:13:09] and overestimating one's own abilities. Mhm, [00:13:12] uh, we must be aware of our abilities [00:13:16] and we must be aware of the environment in which we find ourselves. Nature is something that we must [00:13:20] not underestimate in what sense, whether it is a mountain, whether [00:13:24] it is a river. or some light picnic area near [00:13:27] the city, mm, all of that, I [00:13:30] would say, is something that a person who has [00:13:33] spent most of their time in the city is not used to. What do we [00:13:36] overestimate about ourselves? [00:13:39] Uh, well, specifically, depending, if we [00:13:43] focus on the river, on on this water [00:13:46] biome, uh, [00:13:49] the quality of the swimmer, [00:13:53] for example, how capable a swimmer we are. We think we are a good [00:13:57] swimmer if we swim well in an Olympic pool or the sea, which [00:14:00] absolutely does not have to mean if you find yourself in a river. A river is something [00:14:04] that is active, something that that that [00:14:07] carries, that's right, it carries, it has its currents, it has other obstacles and [00:14:11] dangers, whether they are siphons, whether they are some [00:14:14] fallen, fallen trees across its riverbed, whether it is some [00:14:18] rock. The river changes its direction of movement, you must [00:14:21] be ready, capable, knowledgeable, know at least a minimum of hydrology to... [00:14:25] know how to manage. Do [00:14:28] swimmers enter the water suddenly? [00:14:31] It happens, yes, yes, yes, yes, heated up, yes, it happens, especially [00:14:34] on these hot summer days when temperatures are high, we can't wait to [00:14:38] jump into the water, to cool off and then there's [00:14:41] that shock when people jump into the river, [00:14:44] hot. How dangerous is it actually and how much [00:14:47] should we raise awareness about [00:14:50] jumping in hot or overheated, especially diving [00:14:54] headfirst? "It's not the best way to cool down. Well, [00:14:57] we were taught from a young age not to do that [00:15:01] and I have a feeling that it's mostly done by people [00:15:05] who grew up on the river and feel free and think that nothing [00:15:09] can happen to them, that they are, shall we say, in quotation marks, [00:15:12] stronger than the river and that biology that actually happens [00:15:15] in all of us. Maybe we can do it many times and nothing happens to us, [00:15:19] but it only takes once for [00:15:22] how can a swimmer assess that the water is safe?" for swimming, can it be [00:15:26] somehow, are there some tips, some small tricks [00:15:29] that you professionals notice when you see a [00:15:33] new unexplored river or some river current or a [00:15:37] lake, what's the first thing [00:15:40] the first alarm not to enter the water? First, [00:15:44] the best, most important thing is to ask a local. [00:15:47] Okay, that's what really helps the most, because [00:15:50] it's hard to tell, sometimes the river looks calm on the surface, but when [00:15:54] you enter it, the current is so strong that you can't [00:15:58] stand, no matter if it's 20, 30 cm [00:16:01] of water, sometimes it can sweep you away, [00:16:05] so the safest option is to ask a local. [00:16:07] Look for places where many people are swimming, it's [00:16:10] definitely safe there. Now to focus on [00:16:13] some expert professional assessments of the terrain, [00:16:17] I think that's a bit too much, people don't know that. After heavy rainfall, [00:16:21] experts advise against swimming. [00:16:24] Why is that? Well, because [00:16:27] of these heavy rains, [00:16:30] the water level rises, the river level rises. The main reason is, I would say, [00:16:34] the main reason is that as soon as the water level rises, [00:16:37] it gains speed and strength, it even changes [00:16:41] the terrain configuration, its course, so it doesn't mean that if you swam there [00:16:45] the day before, the current will be the same after the rain. [00:16:48] Mhm, alcohol and swimming, why aren't they a good [00:16:50] combination? That's a topic in itself, that [00:16:54] alcohol is indeed a problem on rivers, generally in [00:16:57] nature people like to relax a bit with a barbecue, a shot of rakija [00:17:01] or a beer, but that's bad, especially on these [00:17:05] hot summer days. Alcohol [00:17:08] accelerates the circulation in our [00:17:11] body. This is where [00:17:14] these incidents most often occur, as you asked me earlier, when we jump hot into [00:17:17] the water, that's what, I would say, promotes these [00:17:21] unfortunate events due to [00:17:24] the effect of alcohol on our body, besides the fact [00:17:28] that people in a tipsy or [00:17:31] drunk state distinguish what is good and what is bad, logic is [00:17:35] extinguished in every moment. [00:17:38] Unfortunately, we were, until recently, witnesses [00:17:43] places, activities where alcohol should not be present, such as rafting, [00:17:47] where people mm had a habit of [00:17:50] bringing a beer or a crate of beer, unfortunately, on [00:17:54] the boat, which leads to risky [00:17:57] situations. I would, well, take [00:18:00] this opportunity, given that an unfortunate accident happened this year [00:18:03] during rafting, mm, to [00:18:07] draw attention first to the providers of [00:18:10] these services, then to people who want to go [00:18:14] rafting, to pay attention to a few things. [00:18:17] First and foremost, rafting guides [00:18:21] must be licensed, trained people, [00:18:24] not to use some amateur rafting guides or skippers, as they [00:18:28] are popularly called. So, training of rafting guides [00:18:31] in the segment of boat management and in the segment of [00:18:34] rescue. Secondly, to invest in... equipment, so, [00:18:38] those agencies, providers of rafting services must invest in safety [00:18:41] equipment according to standards, certificates, homologated equipment [00:18:45] that meets that requirement. And thirdly, to [00:18:48] respect safety rules, namely, to avoid [00:18:51] alcohol, to not just avoid, but to never [00:18:55] consume it, and to listen [00:18:57] to the instructions, right, [00:19:01] of an experienced rafting guide and not to underestimate nature, the environment you are in. [00:19:05] Yes, what do parents most often misjudge when their [00:19:09] children are in the water? Are armbands, inflatable rings, and other [00:19:12] props sufficient protection for non- [00:19:15] swimmer children? Well, again, it depends on the environment you are [00:19:18] in, the child's age, and so on. [00:19:22] What is important, parents should be reminded, [00:19:25] if you are in some, whether it is a public [00:19:29] swimming area with regulated safety rules, lifeguards, or [00:19:32] it is, for example, rafting where there is a rafting [00:19:36] guide who is trained for rescue situations, mm, [00:19:40] I mean, it's logical that a parent instinctively acts and reacts in [00:19:43] a situation when a child is in danger, when they [00:19:46] are threatened, right, when they are in danger. What is [00:19:49] important to emphasize is that the parent must still remain calm, [00:19:53] let the professional do the job. Senad, thank you very much for these [00:19:57] recommendations and I hope for more swimming and enjoyment, and less work and [00:20:01] spraying. Thank you [00:20:02] very much. [00:20:12] You were watching New Day , sponsored by [00:20:15] Medicana Health Group. [00:20:53] just start with this latest meta incident, what happened here? I mean, another day, another [00:20:57] AI model doing something it's not supposed to. In this case, Meta just disclosed this [00:21:01] evening that during cybersecurity testing, one of its AI models got [00:21:04] access to the internet in a way it wasn't supposed to, and it breached into [00:21:08] another company's system. The information which first reported this said that the [00:21:12] model made changes to the other company's internal system. We don't know which [00:21:15] company it is, this is all breaking tonight. Meta says this was a [00:21:20] regular, it's an independent testing company that Meta uses to [00:21:24] test cybersecurity, test their AI models. And Irregular says [00:21:27] there are no current open issues with this and they're actually working on a white paper to [00:21:31] share best practices for containment of these AI models. [00:21:35] You come on in the morning and scare the hell out of us with all the stuff that's going on. I [00:21:38] literally have to ask you, wait a second, this is different than what you've been telling us [00:21:42] about with the Anthropic and OpenAI cases. What was going on there? Yeah, I [00:21:46] mean, this technology is developing at such a rapid pace that we are getting new [00:21:50] information day by day. So, just yesterday, the UK's [00:21:53] government AI security institute revealed that during cyber [00:21:56] testing of both Anthropic and OpenAI models, they found unsanctioned actions [00:22:00] by these models. In the most severe case, one of the models, which was [00:22:04] an Anthropic model, wanted to publish malicious code on GitHub, which is [00:22:07] essentially the Wikipedia of software code. And in order to [00:22:11] try to convince the human editor, they made up several fake identities, [00:22:15] several fake accounts to try and get this human editor to publish this malicious [00:22:18] code. As part of... that same effort, this AI agent emailed [00:22:22] several real people trying to get them to publish or [00:22:26] run this malicious code. According to the UK AI security [00:22:29] institute, they say this is the first time that they have ever seen deception [00:22:33] of this severity that was targeted at a real person unprompted [00:22:36] in the real world. They did not tell the models to do this, they were just [00:22:40] testing them. Now, to be clear, when they're testing these [00:22:43] models, they remove some of their safeguards to be able to test their full [00:22:47] capabilities. And the institute does... say that they were [00:22:51] unsuccessful in publishing this malicious code and that there was no real- [00:22:54] world harm committed, but that's because the human reviewer didn't [00:22:58] fall for it. It's like a scammer who tries to pretend to be your bank and tries to get you [00:23:02] to do something wrong, but this time it was an AI agent. Yeah, I mean, the news here is they're [00:23:06] trying, the machines are trying here. Put this in some context. Yes, so this is the [00:23:10] fourth incident in just less than three weeks, just over two weeks [00:23:13] of an AI model going rogue. So, on July 21st, OpenAI [00:23:17] disclosed that one of its models escaped a testing environment [00:23:20] and hacked Hugging Face's system. July 30th, Anthropic, [00:23:24] which was actually prompted by the OpenAI disclosure to go back and review its own [00:23:27] models, found that, unknowingly to Anthropic, they had no idea this had happened, [00:23:31] there were three different incidents where their models also [00:23:35] breached other company systems. It didn't so much escape the test environment, but [00:23:39] still gained access to the open internet, which it wasn't supposed to. It actually connected to the same [00:23:42] company that caused Meta's breach. Yesterday, we get this [00:23:46] report out of the UK about AI agents using fake identities to try to... [00:23:50] people. And just tonight we have Meta talking about its own breach. And I expect any day [00:23:54] we're going to hear from more. [00:24:06] the mass wedding of Russian soldiers before they're packed off to the [00:24:10] frontlines. [00:24:13] I want to shake your hand and thank you for not running away, for not being [00:24:17] scared. [00:24:20] offer. [00:24:24] Russian military wives get thousands of dollars [00:24:27] in compensation if their husbands are killed in [00:24:29] action. And officials say ruthless scammers [00:24:33] dubbed "black widows" are tricking vulnerable [00:24:36] recruits into wedlock. [00:24:40] The father of Maria from St. Petersburg died after being shot [00:24:43] in Ukraine last year. She told me she only found out her dad had [00:24:47] joined the army after he was killed. And then he then did [00:24:51] he had new wife? How did you feel when you found [00:24:55] out that your dad had got [00:24:57] married just days before he went off to [00:25:00] war? [00:25:03] It felt unreal. When I was being issued the death certificate, they asked if he [00:25:07] was married, I said no, but they told me he was. Never [00:25:11] ever managed to contact the woman. [00:25:15] simply didn't know what to say to her because suspected it was a [00:25:18] scam. It's just one [00:25:21] suspected case in a growing number, [00:25:24] scandalizing Russia. With the war in Ukraine, now in [00:25:28] its fifth year and casualty rates at [00:25:31] catastrophic highs. It's hard [00:25:34] to imagine there are people out there marrying vulnerable [00:25:38] men and encouraging them to join the military just so they [00:25:41] might financially benefit if they're killed on the front lines. [00:25:45] No wonder there's outrage across Russia at the [00:25:48] spread of these... [00:26:02] She married a soldier 10 days after meeting him, then posted images [00:26:06] of herself with other men, was branded a black widow in the Russian [00:26:10] media and denied compensation when her husband was [00:26:13] killed before their divorce went through. She denied any [00:26:17] wrongdoing, saying the allegations had blackened her [00:26:20] name. [00:26:22] But there's growing public anger at how cynical [00:26:26] some Russians have become about the war, the Kremlin calls it [00:26:29] special military operation. [00:27:02] to the block where her dad's old apartment has now been [00:27:06] sold off, convinced he was also scammed out of his [00:27:09] home. Do you know who the new owner [00:27:12] is? [00:27:15] How long, how many years did your dad live here? Five [00:27:18] years, this is it, it's [00:27:21] open behind the broken [00:27:24] door. The new occupants insist it [00:27:28] was a legitimate sale and that they never even met the [00:27:31] seller.
