[00:00:00] ice and shipping lanes, it is space awareness and missile warning from [00:00:03] northern latitudes, it is undersea cables, communications [00:00:07] and the data that moves across them. it is whether the next [00:00:11] generation of energy, computing, artificial [00:00:14] intelligence is powered and connected by trusted American [00:00:18] and allied systems, or by infrastructure built under the [00:00:21] influence of our competitors. cold [00:00:24] climates and energy potential can support advanced computing and data [00:00:27] centers. polar orbits, [00:00:30] and Arctic ground stations already matter for space operations. If the [00:00:34] United States does not lead in these areas, others will treat them as [00:00:37] openings. A rapidly changing Arctic and longer [00:00:41] periods of open water are changing the operating environment faster than our [00:00:45] institutions have adapted. Longer periods [00:00:47] of open water may create opportunities for maritime activity and [00:00:51] American energy exports. They also [00:00:54] stress the roads, ports, airfields, fuel [00:00:57] systems and networks that enable military. operations, [00:01:01] investment, commerce, and community resilience. In a [00:01:05] region of fast distance, the strategic [00:01:09] consequences. These are operational [00:01:12] challenges. They affect [00:01:13] comes to the strategic importance of readiness, mobility, search and rescue, disaster [00:01:16] response, and our ability to act in a [00:01:18] crisis. Our competitors understand [00:01:22] this. Russia continues to strengthen its military posture [00:01:26] and infrastructure behind it. China is not an [00:01:29] arctic nation. yet it is seeking long-term advantage through [00:01:32] research, investment, technology, and commercial [00:01:35] projects with dual use potential. [00:01:39] Secretary Rubio has warned that Beijing's pattern is to use commercial [00:01:42] cover for facilities that could later serve military [00:01:45] purposes. Arctic shipping lanes will matter for exports, [00:01:49] critical minerals trusted digital infrastructure, space related [00:01:52] access will shape competitiveness for decades. We cannot [00:01:56] allow Moscow and Beijing to write the rules of this region by default. [00:02:01] America's response must be nimble and effective, advancing the [00:02:05] administration's America first priorities will be the core of our [00:02:08] approach. Military strength is indispensable, [00:02:11] but it is not enough. Lasting leadership also depends on [00:02:15] diplomacy, economic statecraft, strong [00:02:18] infrastructure, innovation in our [00:02:22] alliances. No single agency can do this [00:02:25] alone. Success requires coordination across [00:02:28] government, partnership. [00:02:53] It also means a steady eye on the security, military [00:02:56] activity, economic deals, resources, [00:03:00] science and politics, so we are not surprised. [00:03:04] if confirmed, I will work every day to strengthen our alliances, [00:03:08] advance the interests of the American people, counter those exploit the [00:03:11] arctic against us and help keep the region secure, [00:03:23] Gillen: [00:03:28] ranking member Shahen. [00:03:32] out of that church, I as chairman of Distinguished members of the committee, thank you for the opportunity to appear before you today as President [00:03:36] Trump's nominee to serve as the next United States ambassador to [00:04:05] even greater part of [00:04:52] Republic, as you know 20% of [00:05:13] As the Kirges Republic celebrates 35 years of [00:05:16] independence, the United States has an opportunity to offer a [00:05:19] transparent, mutually beneficial partnership that [00:05:22] advances the prosperity of both nations. This is not a new [00:05:26] commitment, but one this administration has reinforced [00:05:29] through sustained high-level engagement, including the historic [00:05:32] C5+1 summit at the White House last November, [00:05:36] which marked the platform's 10th anniversary and brought [00:05:40] together President Trump. leaders of the central Asian [00:05:43] countries, if confirm, if [00:05:47] confirmed, I will work to hold, I will work to build this on [00:05:50] this foundation, that means strengthening security [00:05:53] cooperation, including on counter terrorism, border [00:05:56] security, immigration enforcement and countering [00:05:59] transnational criminal organizations consistent with the [00:06:02] outcomes of the US Kirges Republican annual bilateral [00:06:06] consultations. It also means expanding [00:06:09] commercial and economic ties, including infrastructural. [00:06:42] navigates pressures from neighboring powers. The Kireas [00:06:46] Republic is a promising partner a moment when Central Asia's [00:06:49] importance to US foreign policy has never been clear. If [00:06:53] confirmed, I will work tirelessly [00:06:56] to protect and advance American interests, strengthen our [00:06:59] bilateral relationship, and ensure the United States [00:07:03] becomes the partner of choice for the Kirgese [00:07:06] people. I look forward to answering the committee's [00:07:17] Shaheen, and distinguished members of the committee. Thank you for the [00:07:21] privilege of coming before you today as the president's nominee to serve as United [00:07:25] States Ambassador to the Republic of Cabo [00:08:09] story. Since gaining independence in 1975, [00:08:12] It has become one of Africa's strongest democracies, reflected time [00:08:16] after time through its peaceful transfers of power. Its [00:08:20] government acts against officials who engage in corruption, and its [00:08:23] laws provide freedom of expression, including for the press. [00:08:27] Cob overday and leaders have shown remarkable resolve from [00:08:30] interdicting multi-tone narcotics shipments in the Mid-Atlantic [00:08:34] to standing firm against pressure from actors seeking to exploit its strategic [00:08:38] location, and its people to people ties with the United [00:08:42] States. dating back to the 18th century, has built a bond with [00:08:45] America that spans generations. [00:08:48] If confirmed, my highest priority will be the safety and security of [00:08:52] US citizens in Cabo Verde, including the thousands who [00:08:55] travel there for business, tourism, or to spend holidays with love [00:08:58] ones, and our mission team doing incredible work in [00:09:01] praya. Part and parcel of supporting the mission is ensuring our new [00:09:05] embassy compound construction is on track for completion in [00:09:08] 2029. I will also work to promote [00:09:12] broad-based, mutually beneficial economic development, encouraging US [00:09:16] businesses to seize opportunities in a market with a stable political environment [00:09:20] and low corruption. I will advocate for American businesses and [00:09:24] look forward to encouraging investment in infrastructure, tourism, [00:09:28] fisheries, and digital services and addressing barriers to US [00:09:31] commercial success. [00:09:33] Additionally, I will prioritize our security partnership, particularly in [00:09:37] maritime domain awareness. Cabo [00:09:40] Verde is made up of 10 islands and eight. lets within a maritime [00:09:43] domain that is over 170 times larger than its actual [00:09:47] land mass. this presents challenges to combat [00:09:50] transnational crime, illegal fishing and narcotics [00:09:53] trafficking. if confirmed, it will work to deepen our [00:09:56] security efforts in support of these areas of mutual [00:10:00] concern. finally, i would be remissed not [00:10:03] to mention that Cabo Verde made its first ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup [00:10:07] this year, and became the smallest country ever to make it to the knockout [00:10:11] round of the tournament. It was moment of tremendous national pride [00:10:15] for Cabo Verdans and brought this small nation into the American [00:10:18] consciousness. I hope to build on this momentum to bring our two [00:10:22] countries even closer together. If [00:10:25] confirmed, I will work every day to to [00:10:44] with uh uh, Miss. I'm, [00:10:48] I'm the senior Republican on the intelligence committee as well as being here, and we [00:10:52] hear a lot, I mean a lot about the... artic uh in the [00:10:56] intelligence committee. um, I'm always impressed with the fact, [00:11:00] and not in a good way, how little it gets covered in in the [00:11:03] media, and uh, particularly with the issues that are there, so [00:11:07] this gives us an opportunity to highlight some of those [00:11:10] issues, so I'm going to give you a minute if you'd like to talk about some of the [00:11:14] challenges and maybe drill down into an example or two [00:11:18] as to why the artic is important [00:11:21] and uh why we should take it as such. [00:11:25] Thank you, Mr. Chairman for for that for that question and opportunity [00:11:29] to really try to explain. I think you're exactly right, there's there's [00:11:33] a a little bit of lack of understanding and [00:11:38] the Arctic and and what this role would would encompass. [00:11:42] Um, as as I said earlier in my remarks, the the ice is melting [00:11:46] in certain parts of the Arctic, it is opening the navigation [00:11:49] seaways, we're seeing increased traffic of Russian and [00:11:53] Chinese ships, there's "there's quite a bit of vulnerabilities and gaps [00:11:57] up in the high north, we rely very heavily on our [00:12:00] our fisheries, on on the salmon industry up in the Alaska [00:12:03] region, there's a lot of national security, [00:12:07] economic security concerns when it when it comes to the high [00:12:11] north, and being able to explain, I i'd say, especially from a [00:12:14] public topomacy standpoint will be, I think quite critical for this role [00:12:18] and and this and this opportunity to serve um to really be able [00:12:22] to explain that strategic." when it [00:12:25] comes to also countering the milign influence of China and [00:12:29] Russia that that are in the region, opening [00:12:32] opportunities to see what kind of access we have when it comes to critical minerals [00:12:35] and energy resources and then finally [00:12:39] building those coalitions and those partnerships with our [00:12:43] arctic nations across the board and not just with the arctic council but [00:12:46] beyond that as well, we have lot of arctic observer states [00:12:50] including Japan, [00:12:53] Korea, and for example, so it is a [00:12:57] global issue uh, when we think about what's happening in the world today, everyone focuses [00:13:01] on certain choke points in the middle east and so forth, where where [00:13:04] this the arctic can be truly new frontier um if we put the [00:13:08] right focus and capabilities behind it. thank you. well thank [00:13:12] you, i think you've got that just right uh, it's going to [00:13:15] continue to grow in importance, particularly is uh as the [00:13:19] use in the navigation gets uh uh [00:13:22] gets uh more use up there uh Mr. Gellen, [00:13:25] um, as I noted, I i participated in that meeting at the [00:13:29] at the request of the president with [00:13:32] the C5 plus one, and I have to tell you, I was [00:13:36] uh, I was incredibly impressed, I see [00:13:39] people from all over the world from the 200 countries, [00:13:42] and never saw much of the C5 plus [00:13:45] one, but when um, when the war [00:13:49] started, they they came to see me and wanted to underscore the [00:13:53] fact that uh, the they did... have anything to do with this and they didn't want to [00:13:57] participate in that, even though uh the Russians had uh [00:14:00] strongly uh urged them to do so, [00:14:04] but uh, in any event, I was impressed when we had that meeting with [00:14:07] them, and I think saying that they have an interest in [00:14:11] engaging with us is an understatement. I was, I was [00:14:14] really surprised at their [00:14:17] relationship with us uh, economically and [00:14:21] and every other way, so um, your thoughts on that? [00:14:28] Thank you, Mr. Chairman, and um for that for [00:14:31] that question, but also thank you for your support and participation in [00:14:35] the C5+1 summit. Truth be told is throughout the my foreign [00:14:38] service career, the most effective moments we had when when [00:14:42] engaging partners and influencing those who were teetering [00:14:45] back and forth between us and maybe other powers throughout the world was [00:14:48] when there were the the legislative branch and the executive [00:14:52] branch put up a united front and they saw... there was no daylight between [00:14:56] constitutional branches and so where American policy [00:15:00] was heading, so thank you so much for President Trump's efforts to [00:15:03] press forward and reinvigurate and and to [00:15:06] maximize [00:15:08] uh Kurga's republic's participation in the C5 format. It [00:15:12] is a difficult strategic context for the Kirige [00:15:17] their economy is dependent on remittances from [00:15:19] Russia and upwards of 90% and some estimates out [00:15:23] open sources put it higher a few. [00:15:37] enabling them to be a trusted, transparent, sovereign [00:15:40] partner, our strong shows of American commitment to [00:15:44] find ways to expand commercial [00:15:46] ties uh as well as uh security [00:15:50] cooperation, so as if confirmed, [00:15:54] it will be among my highest priorities uh as [00:15:57] ambassador to kirkas republic to encourage their continued and [00:16:01] expand and participation through the C5 plus one for the very reasons [00:16:05] you've laid out, Mr. Chairman, thank you. Grekos, the taste you [00:17:32] trust. [00:17:37] Dear viewers, welcome, today we are talking with Dr. [00:17:41] Jasmina Ćorović Kuburović, a cardiologist known as [00:17:44] the heart doctor. Doctor, tell us why after [00:17:48] 40 years many people feel that they have less energy and what role does [00:17:52] the enzyme Q10 play in this? Coenzyme [00:17:54] Q10 is a substance that our body naturally produces [00:17:58] and participates in energy production in absolutely every cell. Its [00:18:02] production decreases with age, and at the same time it is especially important for organs [00:18:06] that have the greatest energetic needs, among which the heart [00:18:09] is in the first place, of course, as well as muscles and the brain. [00:18:13] The heart beats more than 100,000 times a day and [00:18:17] therefore needs a huge amount of [00:18:19] energy. How does BMTQ10 differ from [00:18:23] standard preparations and why is selenium added? [00:18:26] What distinguishes BMT coenzyme Q10 [00:18:30] is microencapsulation. Patients often only look at the milligrams [00:18:33] of coenzyme Q10, but much more important than that is [00:18:37] how much the body can absorb and [00:18:41] utilize it. Microencapsulation protects [00:18:44] coenzyme Q10 from external influences and [00:18:47] enables significantly better absorption. In addition, the [00:18:50] preparation contains selenium, which contributes to the normal functioning [00:18:54] of the thyroid gland, the immune system, the protection [00:18:58] of cells from oxidative stress, which is very important. So, [00:19:01] Doctor, BMTQ10 can be [00:19:04] excellent support for all of you who feel tired, have problems [00:19:07] with blood pressure, cholesterol or sugar, for all problems [00:19:11] with the heart, poor circulation, also if [00:19:14] you have skin problems, frequent headaches and lack [00:19:17] of concentration, and especially all of you who [00:19:21] take statins. Today, a special promotional offer [00:19:24] with two ordered [00:19:28] 20% discount and free [00:19:31] shipping. Call 08050057 [00:19:35] and take advantage of this excellent offer while [00:19:37] it lasts. [00:19:43] I had heart problems and pain on the left side, [00:19:47] since I started drinking it, I don't feel that pain [00:19:50] at all. BMTQ10 is dissolved in [00:19:53] oil, which is why it stays in the body longer and has an effect for [00:19:57] a longer period. A clinical study in which BMTQ10 was [00:20:01] compared with ordinary Q10 capsules proved that [00:20:04] up to 13 times greater absorption is possible. This [00:20:08] product is therefore much more effective than ordinary Q10 [00:20:12] supplements. Take advantage of today's special offer if you order two products for [00:20:15] two months of use, you get a 20% discount and [00:20:18] free shipping. [00:20:48] Yeah, I appreciate that. assuming you have had some discussions [00:20:52] with uh uh ambassador gore, Sergio [00:20:55] Gore, was the ambassador to India, but also the special envoy for the [00:20:59] region that includes a C5, am I correct on [00:21:01] that? sir, I have consultations [00:21:05] lined up with him, but I've been engaging with his [00:21:08] people uh uh and look forward to working with [00:21:11] him as well as this secretary back at the SA [00:21:14] Bureau, um, I appreciate that, you're going to find [00:21:18] him fully in engaged in that envoy [00:21:22] position that the president has given him, he's, he's ambassador of course to India [00:21:25] right now, but he is, I can tell you uh uh heavily [00:21:29] and deeply and wisely engaged in the [00:21:32] C5, so you'll be well-served in dealing [00:21:36] with him as you proceed with your [00:21:39] ambassador, your ambassadorship to [00:22:09] Young, last week a serbian plane flew the body [00:22:12] of Radko Maladic from the [00:22:16] Hague to Belgrade, and despite the fact that he's was. [00:22:29] what we saw was some government officials who attended his funeral and he was granted military honors, [00:22:32] i think to see honors bestowed a [00:22:36] convicted war criminal like that is outrageous and i [00:22:40] think it's important for the US to be clear on what [00:22:43] happened in shrebraniza so do you consider as the [00:22:47] international criminal tribunal does as Congress does and is [00:22:51] the US Holocaust Memorial Museum does, that what took [00:22:55] place in Shrebernizza was a [00:22:56] genocide. [00:22:59] Senator, thank you so much for your question, and your decades long work in [00:23:03] that area las a tremendous ground work, I think [00:23:06] for future work in Serbia, so thank [00:23:09] you. Yes, what happens in [00:23:13] Serbaniza as genocide is a historical and legal [00:23:16] fact. Thank you, and if confirm. [00:23:21] based on your answer, assume you commit to [00:23:23] affirming that in your new role, should you [00:23:27] be confirmed? senator, yes, if confirmed, would certainly [00:23:31] continue to aver that. [00:23:35] most recently it was reported that Russian nationals [00:23:38] responsible for the hybrid attack at Liepsig airport use [00:23:41] Serbia as means to return home, it [00:23:45] underscores the growing concerns that Serbia's ties [00:23:49] with Russia. undermine European security, [00:23:52] so if confirmed, how would you [00:23:56] seek to put greater pressure on Serbia to sever its ties [00:23:59] with Russia, so that it can support it stated [00:24:03] interest in pursuing EU [00:24:05] membership. [00:24:08] Senator, thank you so much, that's a difficult but [00:24:11] important, very important question, I think there are number of [00:24:15] ways in which one turns to enlighten [00:24:18] Serbia about the... disadvantages of deeper [00:24:21] cooperation with Russia and the advantages of cooperation with the [00:24:25] United States and I think there are number of variables [00:24:29] in there that you want to address including helping them develop [00:24:32] energy reduce their energy independence or their [00:24:36] dependency on Russia, I think is an important element of [00:24:39] that. Number two, I think is to [00:24:43] work to urge the Serbians to [00:24:46] create a environment that allow. [00:24:50] american companies to compete fairly and to become [00:24:55] the economic ecosystem of Serbia. I [00:24:58] think also deepening our [00:25:01] conversations over military cooperation become an [00:25:05] important element as well, so those are all [00:25:08] things that need to be done, the more to be sure, but certainly [00:25:31] Mr. Johnson, we passed um, last [00:25:35] year, the Western Balkans democracy and [00:25:38] prosperity Act, which requires the administration [00:25:42] to sanction within 90 days any actors who [00:25:46] are responsible for undermining peace, stability or territorial." [00:25:51] in the westerns and yet early 9 months later, the administration has [00:25:55] still not imposed any sanctions despite what [00:25:59] appears to be clear sanctionable conduct. [00:26:03] so for example, Millerad Dodic, again who I [00:26:06] referred to in my opening comments, attended the [00:26:09] funeral of convicted war criminal [00:26:13] Maladic, and he has advocated for the [00:26:17] Republic of Serps independence. [00:26:20] Just four months after US sanctions on him were lifted, he said, and I [00:26:23] quote, you have to inflict some losses on the enemy every day, [00:26:27] because he is your enemy, and Muslims, the [00:26:30] Sarajevo political establishment. [00:27:02] integrity [00:27:17] to uh Dotic, I think that at this stage right [00:27:21] now, again we're in the political climate and rhetoric is on [00:27:25] all sides uh is before next month's elections [00:27:29] in Bosnia and Herzegovia, but I can assure you senator, [00:27:32] confirmed that I'll be a strong advocate [00:27:35] for what was stated in the NDA and be able [00:27:39] to uh provide [00:27:42] uh our country uh accurate portrayal of exactly what [00:27:45] is going on. Well, thank you. I appreciate that. I hope you will also [00:27:49] make recommendations about how you think we should respond to what's going [00:28:08] academia, and that you've also got have lot of experience [00:28:11] in practice, in your previous government service [00:28:14] involves international religious freedom, one of your [00:28:18] previous ambassadorial roles involved that in particular, you see [00:28:21] any particular aspect of your [00:28:23] service uh in Serbia that will benefit from that, and what do you [00:28:27] think of some of the religious freedom issues you might confront [00:28:30] there uh sen thank you for that [00:28:33] question and recognition of the importance of that [00:28:36] issue. Serbia is of [00:28:40] course predominantly a serbian [00:28:42] orthodox and strongly support uh the [00:28:46] capacity of people in that context to worship freely in whatever [00:28:50] way they think appropriate. At the same [00:28:53] time there are other religions as well, there's certainly adherents [00:28:57] to Islam, there are other Christian faiths there as [00:29:00] well, and if confirmed. [00:29:02] "I would certainly strongly urge the Serbian government to uh [00:29:06] ensure that everybody have that capacity as they are [00:29:10] obligated under the UN treaties to [00:29:13] preserve uh freedom of thought, conscience and belief as [00:29:17] well as freedom of a simbly uh in all of its [00:29:34] the energy and natural resources committee, I'm always interested in energy issues around [00:29:38] the world, anything there of interest to you on [00:29:42] the energy front? I think the yes, senator, [00:29:46] the energy front is very important at the moment, while on with [00:29:49] respect to electrical energy, they are largely self-sufficient with about [00:29:53] 70% produced by coal and about 30% by [00:29:56] hydroelectric, but over 80% of their liquid [00:30:00] natural gas natural gas is imported from [00:30:03] Russia uh and they also have [00:30:07] Russian ownership of their major energy company [00:30:10] those those issues need to be addressed and if confirmed I [00:30:14] will certainly continue to urge that NIS [00:30:18] be there be a change in ownership and [00:30:21] control from Russian ownership and control to something else which is under [00:30:25] negotiation as I understand it in addition I think looking [00:30:29] at completion of pipelines uh from the west. that allow [00:30:33] them to get energy sources become very important in terms of their [00:30:37] capacity uh to engage the [00:30:40] west [00:30:42] to the exclusion on occasion of Russia and [00:30:46] other countries with somewhat less [00:30:49] honorable in ambitions uh for
