[00:10:24] Hello and welcome to welcome to the news room with sunna today we're going to be taking a look at the latest [00:10:28] developments taking place a very very important announcement a [00:10:31] trilateral cooperation agreement that has been signed [00:10:35] between Pakistan, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Turkey, [00:10:39] this is of course going to be very very integral in terms the developing [00:10:43] situation, but also in terms of how it marks the historic and deep [00:10:46] routeties between these three countries and of [00:10:49] course this is going to be very integral in terms of what it [00:10:53] achieves especially. with regards to the cooperation [00:10:56] between these three countries, but also in terms of how exactly that [00:11:00] cooperation can possibly extend to other areas as [00:11:04] well. while this is of course being emphasized that this is defense pack, it [00:11:08] is something very important to note in terms of what it entils and [00:11:12] what the agreement is going to cover. for now, what [00:11:16] we know of course is that this is going to be mutual [00:11:19] understanding between these countries in terms of what it is that they [00:11:23] will decide to ac. upon and what it is that they will perceive as a thread, but [00:11:27] this is something emphasized time in again that this is for defense [00:11:31] cooperation not targeted towards any particular country or any particular [00:11:35] situation, and of course does not mean that any sort of [00:11:38] military escort is going to be arranged, this going to be important also [00:11:42] in terms of how the three countries are going to further explore their trade and investment [00:11:46] ties as well and how exactly these relationships are going to [00:11:50] develop even further and especially given the kind of situation the middle [00:11:54] east is in right now, that will be the focus in our first [00:11:58] segment the show today. our next one is going to look at what is happening as part [00:12:02] the US Iran equation, where we see that Mr. [00:12:05] Trump has recently spoken to reporters and said that he's very [00:12:09] optimistic about the situation, saying that there are hopes that he [00:12:13] thinks exist in terms of how successful negotiations can [00:12:17] proceed further and how talks can resume. it's important to see exactly [00:12:21] when that will happen with mediation efforts underway and also the very... [00:12:25] important agreement between Iran and Oman also inching closer and [00:12:29] specially in terms the kind of control is going to give the straight to Iran, something [00:12:32] it's been talking about since the start the conflict and what that does to [00:12:36] the US's key positions as part of what it hopes to achieve out of this [00:12:40] war, the decreasing popularity that Mr. Trump faces [00:12:44] and then of course the way that the Israeli occasion is also [00:12:48] impacting the situation, that will be the focus in our show today and we're going to [00:12:51] start off with very important and very historic... [00:12:55] Agreement that has been signed between Pakistan, Saudi [00:12:59] Arabia and Turkey. The Makka joint defense [00:13:02] agreement is going to be an important aspect, not just in terms the [00:13:06] three countries and their interactions with each other, but also the backdrop the [00:13:10] developing situation in the middle east. For this we've been joined by Imran ali is [00:13:14] a former ambassador and air commodor Khalid Chishti whose defense analyst. [00:13:18] Thank you very much gentlemen for being part the show today. [00:13:22] Let me begin with you in terms of how you're looking at these developments [00:13:25] particularly in light of what we earlier saw um exist [00:13:29] between pakistan and Saudi Arabia as part the defense [00:13:33] cooperation where we understand uh that similar sentiments of course [00:13:37] were underscored between the two that any act of aggression against one will be taken [00:13:41] as an act of aggression against another and then now of course there [00:13:45] is defense agreement that extends to another country another [00:13:48] brotherly country and these uh this trilateral cooperation [00:13:52] also talks about the same aspect how how important and [00:13:55] historic do you think this agreement is and exactly what it entils in [00:13:59] terms of deepening the cooperation and ties that exist between these three [00:14:03] countries? thank you very much miss [00:14:07] sana for the invitation. absolutely, there is no [00:14:11] doubt about it, this is a great time that we three the most [00:14:14] important countries in the muslim ummah have converged together [00:14:18] along with their obviously challenges and the [00:14:21] expectations and most important their strengths. because we [00:14:25] see Turkey as being one the most important country in the NATO [00:14:29] which has been, which has [00:14:32] had lot of exposure to the western technology, modern [00:14:35] weaponizations from the west, transfer of technology, indigenious [00:14:39] industrial base that they have, and [00:14:43] top of that Pakistan joins hand, obviously if you ask me the two most [00:14:46] advanced military capable countries which the [00:14:50] Muslim countries have, cannot easily [00:14:52] be said that this is Turkey and Pakistan. now add that factor of saudia [00:14:56] which has obviously has lot of resources of oil with [00:15:00] compensate and plug in the financial challenges and I think if [00:15:04] you look at the history, let's go back to Turkey [00:15:07] again, this is a country for last 25 years is [00:15:10] expanded military hardware and infrastructure [00:15:14] tremendously. In year 2000 it had just one [00:15:18] billion dollar of defense industry and its export was only 200 [00:15:22] million dollars and now in 25 years it has. up by 20 [00:15:25] times and now it is 20 billion dollars of industry [00:15:29] and Turkey is exporting almost 8.5 billion dollars of [00:15:33] hardware so that tells you lot this and the collaboration. [00:15:37] and this is presently almost the world's 10th [00:15:40] most highest selling armament equipment [00:15:44] country in the world this time. add that to pakistani [00:15:48] collaboration. in the past in the years, if you look at the [00:15:51] history, i have had the privilege and honor to do my armed forces war course in Istanbul [00:15:55] and that to in turkish language just about 22 years back, and even [00:15:59] then people turkish people used to call us brother and not friends, [00:16:03] obviously and they put us high above all other committee of... [00:16:07] nations so that's the privilege, the understanding, the comfort level that we had [00:16:11] traditionally, and now add Pakistani strength. Pakistani strength [00:16:15] has been obviously on the military part, we have the armed forces which [00:16:19] are battle hardened and combat proven, we've had the industry [00:16:23] which produces jf 17 thunder, at the air force level we [00:16:26] had unmandarial vehicle, lighting munition and these drones being [00:16:30] manufactured in Pakistan, through the battle testing and hardened [00:16:34] armed forces [00:16:35] this brings in lot of prestige. "the world has recognized and [00:16:39] as I said in the beginning that Saudi Arab can contribute a meaningful way [00:16:43] to fund these challenges, what we can come across, it's it's a [00:16:46] natural convergence, I would say. This is not that alliance in which you [00:16:50] say we have our own self-seeking interest, we have our own [00:16:53] motives, top of that we've had these national [00:16:57] interest, the threats, perception and the expectation, hopes [00:17:00] converging on one point, only then the three countries could come close, [00:17:04] there is no buyer or seller here, there is..." no opportunity or [00:17:08] occasional friendship or coming close, it's a [00:17:11] tested seasoned kind of relation that to be had and I think hope [00:17:15] to have many more good news coming and I hope some other countries [00:17:19] joining too in this agreement right [00:17:22] absolutely let me come to you with your perspective also in terms of [00:17:26] how you looking at this development particularly in terms the backdrop [00:17:30] the regional situation in the middle east and the very important ties that [00:17:34] exist between between Pakistan Turkey and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. arabia, [00:17:38] how do you think that this partnership is very integral in terms [00:17:42] the existing geopolitical structure the middle [00:17:46] east? yes, thank you, [00:17:48] sanna, and like [00:17:52] commodor sah said, it's a very important, it's a very [00:17:56] important agreement coming taking [00:18:00] place at Makkah and it has Islamic connotations [00:18:03] also, but it's primarily primarily deterrant. [00:18:07] so it's a deterrant for [00:18:11] primarily Israel, because [00:18:14] Israel has been talking about a sunni alliance [00:18:18] taking place, one the one the leaders the opposition [00:18:22] who's probably going to come into par [00:18:26] after after Nathaniau has been [00:18:30] touting this continuously, and also [00:18:33] it's probably also meant... [00:18:38] to stop aggression between Iran and Saudi [00:18:41] Arabia in terms the middle eastern [00:18:44] conflict, kinetic attacks [00:18:48] which have been part of it, it's been it's been it's been very [00:18:52] aably timed with, [00:18:56] I have just heard that the oman and Iran [00:19:00] agreement on the states of hormos has [00:19:03] also been finalized and it's done and dusted. [00:19:07] "it had to be signed by by the supreme leader or [00:19:11] approved by the supreme leader, I think it has been, it [00:19:15] has been done, so now we might look at [00:19:19] an era of peace in the US Iran [00:19:23] conflict at least in the short term, two or three [00:19:26] months time, and Pakistan is probably the [00:19:29] only country that can that can placate Iran [00:19:33] and tell Iran that this agreement is not against. [00:19:37] Iran because there are voices coming out of [00:19:41] Iran, not the official Iranian [00:19:44] voices, but some the think tank [00:19:48] leaders, some their parliamentarians [00:19:51] who think that this is just paper [00:19:54] agreement to to benefit Saudi [00:19:58] Arabia, well it's not that [00:20:00] and I think the Iranian leadership understands the [00:20:04] importance of it and that it's not again. Iran, [00:20:08] I think we have been able to convey this to Iran and [00:20:11] advance. Right, and that of course is very, very [00:20:15] important. The aspect of [00:20:18] deterrance is something that needs to be highlighted even further. It [00:20:22] has been clarified in the joint statement as well, this is not targeted towards any [00:20:25] particular country, [00:20:26] it is meant only for defense cooperation, but how important you think it [00:20:30] is emphasize that, especially in terms the kind of [00:20:34] international concerns that were earlier. also raised as [00:20:38] part the developing situation between US and Iran and the [00:20:42] ways in which such defense agreements are going to come into place, that of course have been [00:20:46] laid to rest to lot of degrees, but in what ways do you think it's important for the? [00:20:50] national community to understand that this true is something which is only for [00:20:53] defense purposes and not targeted towards anything in [00:20:56] particular. you rightly pointed out sana that this [00:21:00] is defense agreement. it doesn't have any offensive element. there is no [00:21:04] hegemonic designs in this built in this, it is for self defense number [00:21:08] one. and ambassador Imran very rightly said that the world [00:21:12] has to and should understand that this is not against any one [00:21:15] country and it has to be done as through only the deterrants and [00:21:19] deterents. does not come when the bad time come, veterance has to be [00:21:23] created, built and tested during the peace [00:21:26] time. Pakistan, obviously Turkey, they have their own military [00:21:30] capability, obviously Saudia has lot of financial [00:21:33] resources, so these three should I would expect them to [00:21:37] develop in the peace time, those capabilities should be [00:21:40] manifested and those should be tested and tried so the enemies these [00:21:44] three countries and by particularly and by and large of Muslim and [00:21:48] for any expansion is... designed for any country, they should [00:21:52] be verificable and tested deterents [00:21:56] obviously, some people take it as a misunderstanding, i was on [00:21:59] different channels throughout the day today and people expected that could be a JF [00:22:03] 17 flying from Pakistan intercepting fighter jet coming from anybody [00:22:07] any other country and and shooting it down, that's not the case, [00:22:11] it has to be built during the peace, tri services [00:22:14] exercises have to be done, I can for sure share with you that [00:22:18] Pakistan airports periodically. numerous airpower [00:22:21] exercises the turkish air force and saudi air force and you saw that a [00:22:25] j1 thunder went non stop obviously covering almost over [00:22:29] 300 kilometers with the to refuling [00:22:32] we be deployed for an exercise in saudia and to that [00:22:35] that kind of exercises should be manifested all our crew could be an [00:22:39] airman, sailor, soldier should be confident enough that god forbid if there [00:22:43] is a bad time comes or a challenging situation come we should [00:22:47] be able to thought of before it actually materialized. so the world should look at [00:22:51] it that it is for a mutual acceptability of owners of [00:22:55] responsibility, liabilities, challenges and let tell [00:22:59] you as last word, the more vacuum you leave the [00:23:03] mistrust between the countries, imbuguity, obviously that [00:23:07] invites aggression, when you send out very solid message with [00:23:10] conviction and resolved back by the military force, obviously many [00:23:14] countries or many enemies these three countries particularly with think times [00:23:18] and this should also encourage other countries also to [00:23:22] join, because it's not a matter of who's smaller, weaker or [00:23:25] stronger, it's more of building up consensus in as many [00:23:29] countries as possible that at diplomatic, political and obviously [00:23:33] economic level. right, absolutely, I'm glad you pointed that [00:23:37] out, ambassador, I'd like your perspective on the last bit that [00:23:41] Mr. Chishti was talking about with reference to other countries joining this to, [00:23:45] this again was a conversation that we saw happen previously also when [00:23:49] Pakistan signed. bilateral defense cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia as well, [00:23:53] whether or not more countries will follow, and we now of course understand that [00:23:56] Turkey has entered into a trilateral cooperation agreement, can [00:24:00] other countries, especially in the middle eastern and Gulf region be [00:24:04] expected to join, and we can see such [00:24:08] cooperations being extended to them as [00:24:10] well, yes, I think other [00:24:13] countries have shown their interest to join, [00:24:16] but I can understand Pakistan. [00:24:20] reluctance as key mediator that it doesn't [00:24:24] want other countries to join and it to it to be seen as [00:24:27] an anti-iranian alliance turkey is different and [00:24:31] Saudi Arabia is different Saudi Arabia [00:24:33] Pakistan was instrumental in prior to [00:24:36] these two Israeli [00:24:38] instigated wars Pakistan [00:24:42] was instrumental with China and Oman in bringing Saudi [00:24:46] Arabia and Iran closer during this war. [00:24:50] also played role in in in not [00:24:53] having hostilities between those these two [00:24:57] countries, turkey is different, turkey doesn't [00:24:59] form part of those countries that have [00:25:02] been that have been part of this war [00:25:06] because the Iranian doctrine [00:25:09] of of hitting American bases, so although [00:25:13] it's a nato member, I don't think Turkish soil was used [00:25:17] to used to attack attack Iran. so [00:25:21] it's it's very important at this juncture, at this point [00:25:25] of time, because Pakistan is involved [00:25:28] in such such a high stakes [00:25:32] mediation as the one between Iran and the US, [00:25:36] so I think gradually as the war eases out and if [00:25:40] this news of oman and Iran coming to an [00:25:44] agreement on the states of hormos is concerned, it's a very good [00:25:48] first step for the... you to be reserected [00:25:51] in some form and for the countries to [00:25:55] talk about it, so I think once there is [00:25:58] peace or once there are this talk of peace, [00:26:02] gradually other countries would be included, [00:26:05] remember three [00:26:08] is a the number three is still [00:26:10] manageable, if you make it nine [00:26:14] or 10 or say seven or eight, then [00:26:17] sometimes it it's not manageable for for [00:26:21] agreements to to work, they need to be [00:26:25] manageable and these three countries don't [00:26:29] have any iritants amongst themselves. [00:26:33] so Turkey is an all-time friend, so is Saudi [00:26:37] Arabia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey see I [00:26:40] toi with each other, their [00:26:42] complementarities have been pointed out by [00:26:46] Sir Khalid very well, and and just [00:26:50] to add to add to what he has said, Pakistan and Turkey [00:26:54] especially have very, very robust air [00:26:57] force [00:26:58] air force relationship and Pakistan. as you [00:27:02] know as is in defense partnership with Saudi [00:27:06] Arabia, so I think there are lots of [00:27:09] complementarities, whether we like it or not, whatever we [00:27:13] say in from Israel, [00:27:17] there will be sounds of caution [00:27:20] and some [00:27:23] trepidation, and so would there be trepidation [00:27:26] from our eastern neighbor, but like like [00:27:30] pointed out, it's not... aggressive against anybody, of course, [00:27:34] if somebody steps on our tail then all bats are [00:27:38] off. right, i understand that. [00:27:42] um, last question to you, when we're looking at of course what [00:27:44] Pakistan [00:27:46] has played as a very central role in terms of [00:27:49] mediating between Iran and the United States, we have seen that, [00:27:53] especially also posted Mark, there has [00:27:56] been very different ways in which the international [00:27:59] community sees and interacts with Pakistan and... the role of [00:28:03] mediator also enhanced this geopolitical position and [00:28:07] because of result of Pakistan's proactive foreign policy we have seen these [00:28:10] engagements taking place now with such agreements also [00:28:14] being developed with the very important allies for Pakistan, how [00:28:18] do you think that also continues to shape our geopolitical position [00:28:22] and our foreign policy stunds and especially our outlook in the ways [00:28:26] that different countries want to engage with [00:28:28] Pakistan? Then If I if I take you [00:28:32] back 14 months, [00:28:34] may 2025, India has had miscalculated that we [00:28:38] are less relevant to the world, when the attacks us, they thought that they are too [00:28:42] relevant and Pakistan should be made irrelevant, that did not succeed and [00:28:46] we earned our relevance, not to their liking obviously and [00:28:49] became regional stabilizing player last [00:28:52] May and fast forward to June [00:28:55] 2026, we proved to the world that we are not only not [00:28:59] sponsoring terrorism but we are a peace loving country which not only [00:29:03] upholds its own sovereinity, but obviously we can significantly [00:29:07] contribute to bringing a super power and obviously Iran to a [00:29:10] common ground and make them work at least on the peace [00:29:14] talks. number one, and then I keep saying most the time that [00:29:18] globally you can buy a military equipment, you [00:29:22] can buy industry, you can buy anything that you want to build, [00:29:25] what you cannot buy through money is your influence, your [00:29:29] impression and your narrative, that has been that has to be [00:29:32] earned and we earned in last 14 months and the world considers [00:29:36] us responsible country obviously which is keenly obviously [00:29:40] interested in the global peace number one and that is why you see you [00:29:44] do not do just by marketing yourself you do not create the influence you [00:29:48] have you have to manifest you have to prove it and the last one year we have proven it [00:29:52] to the world here is the country in spite of having challenges [00:29:56] economically and on other fronts we still have great [00:30:00] intentions of contributing so I think we ear the influence, we earned [00:30:04] the relevance and the diplomatic platforms are one by one [00:30:07] opening for us and world finds that now more credible partner in [00:30:11] the peace instead of what our enemies had projected over the years and [00:30:15] rather over the decades that this is nation which cannot be trusted and especially [00:30:19] after our going nuclear lot of campaign went in against us saying [00:30:23] that we are irresponsible country which obviously cannot be trusted by the global [00:30:27] players so i think we found new relevance we hope and continue to [00:30:30] contribute and the last thing like to add on ambassador Imran saying that [00:30:34] I hope and pray tomorrow Iran can be made very into comforted zone [00:30:38] by ensuring that this is nothing to do with the Iran and I'm [00:30:42] sure Iran would understand that if there is vacuum between these [00:30:46] regional countries it will create or invite aggression from [00:30:49] especially Israel because they like to create relevance here in this [00:30:53] region the more united we are may not be under an aggremant [00:30:56] every country but I think the more cohesive relation.
