[00:09:15] "the brick summit in New Delhi has come under criticism with viral [00:09:18] videos showing senior Indian officials displaying unprofessional conduct [00:09:22] during speeches by foreign leaders. during Russian President [00:09:26] Vladimir Putin's address, Indian national security advisor Ajit [00:09:30] Doval were seen appearing focused on food while foreign [00:09:34] ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaswal was similarly shown [00:09:38] eating during Iranian President Masud Paziskian's remarks, the [00:09:41] videos trigger. criticism on social media with users questioning the diplomatic [00:09:45] etiquet displayed by the Indian officials. Indian [00:09:49] journalist Ashok Swan also criticized the foreign [00:09:52] ministry saying that it was more focused on publicity and [00:09:56] free food than improving India's international image. [00:10:00] Meanwhile, BJP linked figures faced criticism after sharing [00:10:03] AI generated and misleading images from the bricks summit, some [00:10:07] images depicted former Iranian president Ibrahim [00:10:11] Raisi who... in 2024 attending the [00:10:15] event. Other images falsely appeared to show the Turkish [00:10:18] President participating in the summit. The controversy has sparked [00:10:22] a wider debate over India's diplomatic conduct. and the use of [00:10:25] manipulated imagery to portray political and diplomatic [00:10:29] achievements. [00:11:48] We'll begin with the top stories the day or as we call them, region [00:11:51] lines. We start from the [00:11:55] middle east where the Gulf Arab states have cancelled a plan meeting with Iran on Monday as [00:11:59] fighting spread further across the Middle East with Yaman Zuthis launching a new attack [00:12:03] on Saudi Arabia and raising fresh concerns over global [00:12:07] oil supplies. Oil prices have also risen about $108 [00:12:10] per barrel after drone attacks force Saudi Arabia to close its East West Crude Oil [00:12:14] pipeline. [00:12:15] Moving [00:12:20] on, US President Donald Trump says he has warned Ukrainian president Vlodimir Zelensky to [00:12:24] stop taking russian oil refineries saying the attacks are [00:12:27] causing fuel shortages and hurting other countries. meanwile, russia says its air [00:12:31] defenses shot down 399 ukrainian drones overnight while ukrainian [00:12:35] strikes near Russian president Vladimir Putin's black seat residence [00:12:39] in Souchi reportedly also injured five [00:12:41] people. [00:12:47] lastly, six terrorists linked to fitnal Hindustan have been killed in successful joint [00:12:51] operations by Alchistan police, the counter terrorism department and law [00:12:55] enforcement agencies security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to eliminate [00:12:59] terrorism from the country vowing to continue operations until the threat [00:13:03] is completely [00:13:04] eradicated. [00:13:11] Let's begin with the Middle East and North Africa where of course the Middle East enters day [00:13:15] 1999 the conflict with two the world's most [00:13:19] important shipping routes under growing threat. Iran continues [00:13:23] to challenge US control the state of her. where a daily vessel [00:13:26] traffic has now fallen to single digits. now the hoothies [00:13:30] have opened a second front by capturing territory, ports and [00:13:34] strategic islands near Babel Mandab. Saudi Arabias escape route [00:13:38] is also under pressure. now it's east-west oil [00:13:42] pipeline capable of carrying seven million barrels a day, while [00:13:45] bypassing hormos could remain largely out of service for several weeks following [00:13:49] a drone attack. brend crew has climbed above $100 US dollars [00:13:53] per barrel, tanker cost. are sowering and fears of another [00:13:57] global inflation shock are growing. Meanwhile, fighting is [00:14:01] intensifying around Mocha, Marib and Thais as the hoothies certain [00:14:05] further attacks inside the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A plan meeting between [00:14:08] Iran and the Gulf ministers in Oman has now been postponed. [00:14:12] With Washington unwilling to strike the huties directly, Gulf [00:14:16] countries face difficult choice, continue [00:14:19] confrontation or relectantly pursue an [00:14:33] of course will start with the state of hormos and babal [00:14:36] manda, the two gateways of global energy and [00:14:40] commerce. the straight of hormus [00:14:44] connects the persian gulf to the west with the gulf of oman and the [00:14:48] Arabian sea to the east. location is between iran to [00:14:52] the north and Oman to the United Arab Emirates. in the [00:14:55] south. the significance includes vital global oil [00:14:58] transit choke point as we very well know. let's go to the next [00:15:02] slide. the balbel mandab straight [00:15:05] connects the to the northeast with the gulf of [00:15:09] Arden and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. its [00:15:13] location is between Yemen on the Arabian peninsula and [00:15:16] Jibuti and Eritrea on the Horn of [00:15:19] Africa. its significance includes the southern gateway to the [00:15:23] Sues Canal connect. Asia and [00:15:26] Europe, now two major middle eastern [00:15:30] shipping choke points are facing simultaneous disruption, we all know the state of [00:15:34] hormos has been under severe pressure for months. [00:15:37] new conflict front has now emerged around Babel Mander. Together, the [00:15:41] two crises threaten major global shipping routes. The two [00:15:45] waterways connect vital energy producing regions with global [00:15:49] markets. Simultaneous disruption is also creating [00:15:52] crisis that the shipping industry really faces and we are seeing [00:15:56] the consequences. Why is hormos critical? Let's talk about the state of [00:16:00] hormos. First, [00:16:01] the state of hormos has been at the center of an open conflict for [00:16:05] more than six months. The US is... Iran war that began in February [00:16:09] of 2026 is still on the conflict has increasingly moved from the air to [00:16:13] the sea. During this war, US and Iranian forces have [00:16:17] exchanged multiple attacks involving commercial vessels. [00:16:20] Tankers linked to either side have increasingly [00:16:24] become targets. This has marked escalation [00:16:28] beyond drone and mine attacks. Why is Babel mandab critical [00:16:32] then? Babel mandab is second front that has now opened. The Babel Mandab [00:16:35] straight had been relatively. quieter until recently, [00:16:39] but the Houti attacks on commercial shipping have largely affected [00:16:43] the oil flow and economy the world. fighting between the hoothis and the saudi [00:16:47] backed yemini government have intensified. the hoothi attacks have [00:16:51] now extended to saudi energy and civilian [00:16:54] infrastructure as well. now facilities near Jazan have [00:16:58] reportedly been targeted. more than 150 people [00:17:02] have reportedly been wounded in these very attacks. the hutis have [00:17:06] declared what they call a a time blocked against the kingdom of Saudi [00:17:09] Arabia. shipping companies have been warned against [00:17:13] calling at Saudi ports. let's go to the next [00:17:17] slide. the question of whether [00:17:20] any party can actually block the state of hormos and babal mandap [00:17:24] simultaneously has become one the most consequential questions for the [00:17:28] global economy. the answer is complicated. Iran does not have direct sovereign [00:17:32] control over both waterways, but it has tried capturing both [00:17:35] extremely dangerous expensive. and economically disruptive areas. This [00:17:39] disruption has tightened supplies and increased shipping costs pushing [00:17:43] brend crude above $108 bile with prices reaching around 107 to [00:17:47] 109 in mid September of 2026. Coming to the next [00:17:50] slide, shipping through the state of Hormus before and [00:17:54] after the war. The ship traffic has now collapsed before the war, more than 130 [00:17:58] commodity vessels a day or transiting Hormus on [00:18:02] 16th of August, capital data showed just five commodity vessels [00:18:06] crossing on. 14th of September preliminary tracking showed that [00:18:10] commodity vessel transits had fallen to single digits per day versus [00:18:14] recent 10 day average of 14 per day. the source of course is [00:18:18] reuters. coming to the next slide shipping through the balble [00:18:21] mandab also before versus afterwards we wanted to show you that as well. [00:18:25] conflict before before the conflict 71 messels per day were [00:18:29] going through while average traffic from january 2022 to october 2023 [00:18:33] and normal commercial traffic before the red sea crisis after the hoothi [00:18:37] attack. began 43 vessels per day were [00:18:40] happening November 2023 and February 2024, [00:18:44] 39% decline from pre crisis levels, major shipping [00:18:47] lines began rerouting acround the cape of good [00:18:51] hope in 2025. 33.5 vessels per [00:18:55] day was the number of ships that were moving, more than 50% were [00:18:59] below pre crisis traffic. Current latest September [00:19:02] 20 [00:19:03] to 26 data shows around 26 to 27 vessels per day around [00:19:06] six. 3% below the pre-conflict level, the source of course [00:19:10] include the anadolu agency and of course world [00:19:13] monitor checkpoint status as well. coming [00:19:17] to the next slide, pakistan has strongly condemned the [00:19:20] Islamabad the attacks of course [00:19:24] on the abha, khamis, [00:19:28] mushed, jazan and najran areas which saudi authorities said [00:19:32] wounded at least 73 people including women and children. Saudi energy [00:19:36] authorities have also reported fires and a temporary suspension of some [00:19:40] operations at energy facilities following the strikes. the foreign office [00:19:43] says that the attacks were flagrant violations of kingdom of Saudi [00:19:47] Arabia sovereinity and territorial integrity and supported Riya's [00:19:51] legitimate right under international law to take necessary measures to [00:19:55] defense its territory, population and national assets. Prime [00:19:58] Minister Shahbas Sharif has separately condemned what he [00:20:02] describes as a cowardly attack targeting civilian and energy [00:20:06] facilities, Pakistan's unwaving solidarity with [00:20:10] Saudi Arabia and its [00:20:28] Adam, with the Houties taking over Macha and [00:20:31] Strategic Islands while advancing towards Thais and [00:20:35] Marib as well has Yaman's balance of power [00:20:39] decisively shifted in your point, I like to add another question to [00:20:43] that, the hoothies are getting territory were also threatening [00:20:47] not only Babal Mander but also the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. are they [00:20:50] pursuing yemen's war or are they building leverage for [00:20:54] Iran? Trump has rejected direct strikes on the hoothis but has [00:20:58] offered the kingdom of Saudi Arabia intelligence support in this very [00:21:02] issue. has Washington drawn a line under military [00:21:05] commitment. I wanted to group these questions. your [00:21:08] take. Yeah, thank you for having me. So it's worth [00:21:11] noting that the Yemeni government is already weak. They've been unable to [00:21:15] retake hoothi areas for years now despite heavy Saudi air [00:21:19] support. in the past, they're dependent on the kingdom militarily and [00:21:23] politically. we may be seeing a shift even more toward the [00:21:26] hooties, more the balance of power shifting toward them in Yemen with the seiasure the [00:21:30] Babel mendeb area, but there are some signs on the ground today that the [00:21:33] government has repelled the most recent Huthi assault, so that remains to be [00:21:37] seen. basically, we already know the limits of Yemeni government power, but the [00:21:41] questions are now what the Yemen backed by the Saudi Led coalition can do. [00:21:45] The Hothies could of course face challenges their own, especially as they look to re to [00:21:49] take areas where they... have considerable popular support, and [00:21:53] in terms of whether this is Yemen's war or Iran war, there are [00:21:57] domestic and international factors at play here. Iran has said recently [00:22:00] that the Houthis are acting independently, and the Huthies are framing their struggle as a [00:22:04] nationalist one, which is not new for them, but surely the Hoothi advance in the [00:22:08] Red Sea area helps Iran pressure the Gulf and the US by impacting [00:22:12] energy markets. As you noted, Saudi Arabia has been rerouting oil [00:22:15] exports because the disruptions in Hormus, rerouting them through the Red Sea. [00:22:20] already seeing brent crude oil prices uh rise today, and the Yemen [00:22:24] war has escalated during the Iran war, including after reports that the [00:22:27] Islamic Revolutionary guard corre, IRGC was sending more help to the hoothies in [00:22:31] July, so there are also domestic reasons for this war, it's been [00:22:34] unresolved, peace talks with the Houtis and the Saudi Arabia have failed, [00:22:38] and the Huthi recruitment is aided by escalation, and the anti-hoothi [00:22:42] coalition in Yemen was also weakened earlier this year between this dispute [00:22:46] between the Yemini Central government and the southern transition. council [00:22:50] which wants independence for South Yemen and finally in terms of whether the [00:22:54] Trump administration has drawn a line here, as of now yes they are signaling they [00:22:58] want to pursue economic pressure against Iran and with other [00:23:02] Iranian proxies like at Lebanon they're pursuing the diplomatic track, but the [00:23:05] situation can change, especially with President Trump, he has attacked Iran [00:23:09] in the past during negotiations, signaling they want to do diplomacy and then [00:23:13] moving quickly to a military uh position, so this [00:23:17] is basically developing, but as of now there's it seems to be... no US strikes on [00:23:21] Yemen, but [00:23:22] it could change, and [00:23:22] the US has hit [00:23:23] the hoothies across multiple administrations in the [00:23:32] to you, another cyrus itim, the state of hormones is [00:23:35] restricted, the baldhab is being threatened. is this [00:23:39] two front war or restriction [00:23:42] affecting the global gas and oil supplies in the short and long [00:23:46] term, and if so to which extent? your take? [00:23:50] "thank you ar um, mean naturally they are impacting [00:23:53] markets uh, i think primarily the biggest markets being [00:23:57] impacted is obviously oil, mean if you're looking at, i'm trying to quantify it, if [00:24:01] you quantify it, i think we can talk about 20 previously 20 million barrels per [00:24:05] day of oil going through the straight of moves uh today i think we're talking [00:24:09] average we've been seeing numbers between five and seven million barrels per day [00:24:13] that's a good [00:24:14] day um east-west pipeline before what recently [00:24:18] happened was take could take up to four million barrels per day sustainably, [00:24:22] but more recently it's been taking lot less, probably possibly about two, less than two [00:24:26] million barrels per day. you have the fijaro pipeline as well in the UAE, that's been [00:24:29] taking about two million barrels per day. on the Babel Mandab [00:24:33] side, not as significant and we're talking about seven [00:24:36] eight million barrels per day, typically, look, there [00:24:39] in through that straight there is still oil flowing, predominantly Russian [00:24:43] oil, but still it is flowing, and the Hithis have made clear that at [00:24:47] least in theory their their war is... with Saudi Arabia and no one [00:24:51] else, now to what extent we are seeing obviously some vessels that are choosing not to [00:24:55] use that route because the risk, but still so I think [00:24:58] overall in terms the assessment I'd say, look, oil is still [00:25:01] flowing, gas is still, gas not so much, but oil is still flowing [00:25:05] through these two straights, but markedly less and the real [00:25:09] big issue here, the worry really is that the buffers that we [00:25:13] had kind of in February 28 and before, which are [00:25:17] essentially were [00:25:18] you know plentiful inventories globally. and the fact [00:25:21] that over this period initial period the Chinese were not [00:25:25] really taking oil as much, they stopped importing significant amount of [00:25:28] oil, those are starting to turn a little bit, obviously the inventory [00:25:32] situation is much worse than it was, inventories are significantly [00:25:36] lower, and the Chinese have been flirting with the idea of actually increasing imports [00:25:40] once again, so that that's going to definitely put strain on [00:25:43] the on balances on the global or market, so it's [00:25:47] serious now, and I think if it continues much long it could [00:25:51] get very [00:26:03] to understand as far as very important meeting that was going to be [00:26:07] held between the Gulf countries [00:26:09] and in iran in Oman, but that was [00:26:13] postponed [00:26:13] at the very last minute. There are different explanations that are coming from certain [00:26:17] quarters as far as why it was postponed, what's your [00:26:19] take? So the context of this [00:26:23] is important. Iran has signaled many times [00:26:27] that they've agreed to like terms with Oman on like new straight of [00:26:30] Hormus deal, but..." "Oman has been more quieter on this and there [00:26:34] hasn't really been any development toward new mechanism, at least on the ground [00:26:38] or at least publicly between Iran and Oman, and it's worth noting that Iran [00:26:42] as a mediating country consults with the US and they've been [00:26:46] quieter, and the conflict is still active, like I said, the US wants to [00:26:50] see how this economic pressure will play out, so it's possible that the conditions are not there [00:26:54] for these talks to happen as of yet, it is speculation, [00:26:57] you know why exactly it didn't happen, but we've basically seeing increased US pressure, [00:27:01] that's something Oman is..." taking note of, and Oman is aware that, the [00:27:05] US may pressure them any agreement they make with Iran, so that [00:27:09] that's basically the context for how this meeting uh didn't take place, but the exact [00:27:12] reasons for it not happening are not clear. It's worth noting that in [00:27:16] recent days there have been a lot of diplomatic calls [00:27:18] between um gulf diplomats, especially foreign ministers [00:27:22] from UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman as well, Qatar, so we might be [00:27:26] seeing, diplomacy pickback up despite this meeting not taking [00:27:29] place, so it might be happening a... in the next few days, [00:27:33] maybe if the issues are resolved one way or the other, what's your [00:27:36] take? it's possible, [00:27:39] but I don't see you, deal being imminent right now, there aren't [00:27:43] any signs [00:27:44] of that, the Trump administration is expected to announce new sanctions on Iran [00:27:48] today, they're continuing that economic pressure, so and Iran has not [00:27:52] signaled that [00:27:52] it is going to budge, of course there are signs the Iranian economy is struggling even more so than it was and [00:27:56] that's what led to protests in the past, but as of now we're you know it's kind of like [00:28:00] a game of chicken, we're seeing who will... blink first, so this this [00:28:04] meeting might happen, but it doesn't like a deal is [00:28:18] hormos traffic has fallen to single digits, as far [00:28:22] as the recent capital data is concerned, [00:28:26] despite the US naval escorts that are happening. do [00:28:30] you feel Washington is generally trying to move? oil through the street first [00:28:34] question, second question, Iran has certain penalties against [00:28:38] more more or less 77 vessels as traffic through hormos has fallen, we've just [00:28:42] discussed that, how now controls the traffic through [00:28:45] the state of hormos, if we would be discussing that very [00:28:49] straight, sure, so I mean let's look at [00:28:53] the the control question first, I mean honestly I would say no one really [00:28:57] controls this straight, I think this is lot of this is like this talk of whether [00:29:01] the straight is open or the straight. is closed, we hear from Iran that it's closed, we hear [00:29:05] from the US that it's open, the truth is it's not open, because if it were [00:29:09] open it would be how things were prior to February 28th, and [00:29:12] it's it's not closed because there's still oil going through, [00:29:16] oil and other goods going through this this [00:29:20] straight, so ultimately it's it's pores right, so I [00:29:24] think we're in this limbo, the state of limbo at the moment you [00:29:27] have essentially the Gulf region in particular [00:29:31] and the wider. world basically held hostage to the [00:29:35] situation now where you have [00:29:39] the US essentially trying to suggest that things are okay, things are taking [00:29:42] over, [00:29:43] and we heard over night that there's [00:29:44] a possibility that the trump administration is actually not [00:29:47] necessarily thinking to focus on the state of hormos as [00:29:51] the primary or at least the initial goal anymore and put the focus [00:29:54] back on on on Iran's nuclear program, which someone [00:29:58] sitting in the Gulf, I think that that would be nightmare [00:30:01] for for any the Gulf countries. is here even consider, because ultimately this is not, [00:30:05] this was never their war, and they've now been dragged into this, and now their lifeline, the [00:30:09] straight of hormos is now essentially being held hostage, and it's [00:30:13] unclear whether the situation is going to get any better anytime soon. i think this is [00:30:17] really why or what's being behind rather, the gulf [00:30:20] push uh towards trying to engage with Iran [00:30:24] directly, because I think they realize that they cannot really depend on the [00:30:27] US on that [00:30:36] i was saying that the number of vessels are restricted to the state of our moves, how long [00:30:40] is that going to be? in your point [00:30:42] of view, will is there a solution? because of course when it comes to the babal [00:30:46] mandir, we also know that the east-west pipeline in the kingdom of Saudi [00:30:50] Arabia has been hit, which is going to be close for number of weeks and that is also going to have [00:30:54] an effect as far as the saudi economy [00:30:57] is concerned, so how is all of that?
