[00:06:14] Hello and welcome to unfold, I am Javar Tehami, in the first segment of [00:06:17] today's show we are going to talk about the situation developing in the [00:06:21] Middle East. In the second segment we are going to talk about the [00:06:25] controversy in the so-called largest democracy in the world, [00:06:29] India regarding the revision in the electoral [00:06:32] roles. There has been crackdown on the part the authorities against the [00:06:36] demonstrations and the massive protests [00:06:40] as they have erupted against. "this exercise the election [00:06:44] commission of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party [00:06:48] led government in [00:06:49] the center, we are going to talk about that particular pressing issue India is [00:06:53] faced with in the second segment of today's show. Let's [00:06:57] begin with the first one, we know for fact that [00:07:01] the situation which is unfolding in the Middle East [00:07:05] has entered into a very dangerous phase when we talk [00:07:08] about the convergence of multiple crisis, when we talk about the..." the [00:07:12] crisis that was unfolding between the US and [00:07:16] Iran, there is a little bit of lull when we talk about the [00:07:20] active hostilities between the two, but on the other side we have seen there is [00:07:24] increase in the escalation when we talk [00:07:27] about Saudi Arabia and the Huti rebels, [00:07:31] also there are reports that suggest that the fighting [00:07:34] continues in the Red Sea around Babel Mandab [00:07:38] between the Houti rebels and the Yemen's government. [00:07:42] Also when we talk about in the latest the developments, there has been [00:07:46] a horrific attack on kingdom of Saudi Arabia [00:07:50] Zuriyad's king Khalid international airport, as [00:07:53] result of which there have been reports of [00:07:57] casualities and injuries as well, at least 12 people have been [00:08:01] killed and over 309 people have [00:08:05] been injured in that particular series of [00:08:08] strikes by the Houti Rebels against Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. [00:08:13] "we have seen a strong reaction coming from the kingdom of Saudi [00:08:16] Arabia calling or describing this action as a [00:08:20] full fledged war crime and is also promised a [00:08:24] very decisive response against theuti rebels in the [00:08:28] wake of this particular act of aggression on the part the hoothies. [00:08:32] likewise we have seen the condemnation coming from all [00:08:35] across when we talk about the United Nations secretary general [00:08:39] Pakistan's prime minister Shabaz Sharif is also..." [00:08:42] condemned this attack and is also reiterated [00:08:46] Pakistan's commitment to Saudi Arabia's security, [00:08:50] especially under the Mackay joint defense [00:08:53] agreement. Also Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and [00:08:57] number of other countries and also international [00:09:01] institutions, including the European Union, they have also [00:09:05] condemned this attack against Kingdom of Saudi [00:09:08] Arabia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and [00:09:12] security at the same time there is an interesting factor when we talk about president [00:09:16] Donald Trump, he was asked whether there could be a [00:09:20] possibility the military involvement on the part [00:09:24] the US besides the Saudi forces [00:09:28] against the hoouties, he responded by saying that [00:09:31] we may, but that is not an official [00:09:35] confirmation that perhaps the US would be [00:09:38] involved in this retaliation the part the kingdom of Saudi Arabia against. [00:09:42] the hoothies through the military means what are the options [00:09:46] resting with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia amid this [00:09:49] escalating situation between itself and the hoot [00:09:53] is concerned, what is the likelihood the US military [00:09:57] involvement in this and also when we talk about in the [00:10:01] larger scheme of things when there are [00:10:04] uncertainties regarding as to where that conflict between [00:10:08] the US and Iran will go, although there is a suspension of... [00:10:12] there was an announcement made by the US president regarding the [00:10:15] suspension of strikes until after the midterm elections [00:10:19] against Iran, but does this front actually [00:10:23] compound that, entire situation in the middle east when [00:10:27] we talk about kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Huti rebels, where does [00:10:31] diplomacy stand at the moment when it comes to, [00:10:34] are there any sort of chances when we talk about deescalating [00:10:38] the situation between kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Hutis through [00:10:42] diplomatic means, all these important aspects of discussion, for that we [00:10:46] are honored to being joined by Mr. Mark Toth, he is the the [00:10:50] co-founder of Intereb 360, Mark, thank you very [00:10:54] much [00:10:54] for being. with us on the show tonight, really appreciate that, also [00:10:58] we are honored to being joined by Mr. Cornel Jonathan [00:11:02] ESweet, he is co-founder intereb 360, is [00:11:05] retired from US Army. Canal Sweet, thank you very [00:11:09] much for your time also for being with us on the show tonight, really appreciate [00:11:13] that. First of all, let's begin the discussion with [00:11:16] you, colnel Sweet, when we specifically try to [00:11:20] understand this very [00:11:24] series of strikes on... the part the hootis when it comes to the [00:11:27] civilian infrastructure within the kingdom of Saudi [00:11:31] Arabia, it has been described as a full fledged war [00:11:34] crime on the part the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and it has also promised [00:11:38] a very decisive response. could you give us an [00:11:41] understanding, how do you look at that, [00:11:45] what's your assessment, what is this act on the part of hutis when [00:11:49] it comes to specifically visave the civilian [00:11:52] infrastructure? for sure? first of all, thank you for having me on the [00:11:56] show, it's always a great opportunity to talk about what's going on in the middle east. [00:12:00] look, let's let let's not kit ourselves. okay, the hoothi rebels are [00:12:04] proxies the Iranian regime. okay, so they [00:12:08] are acting, one on behalf of Iran, but [00:12:11] two, the hoothi rebels have been at war with Saudi Arabia for years, [00:12:15] right? I mean, I can recall when I was the senior intelligence officer in jibuuti [00:12:19] uh, Africa in 2015 that the hooties were [00:12:22] firing drones in. missiles at Saudi Arabia [00:12:26] but also at the United Arab Emirates, so there's a lot of blad bad blood between the [00:12:30] two. Okay, and and I suspect, [00:12:34] strongly, Iran's been funding them, equipping them, training them, there's [00:12:38] IRGC advisors on the ground, the Houti have also been firing [00:12:42] ballistic missiles into Israel, so let's let's not let's not think that [00:12:46] this just occurred, this has been going on for a long [00:12:49] time, uh, this is intended to, in my opinion, do [00:12:53] two things, uh, it's it's [00:12:54] intended to add to the the glut if you of oil coming out [00:12:58] the uh out the Persian Gulf by shutting [00:13:01] down sweet if you allow me to interject over [00:13:05] here I get your point but specifically talking about this [00:13:09] instance in particular when when we talk about the targeting the [00:13:13] civilian infrastructure we've seen the casualties happening [00:13:17] hundreds of injuries have happened this is clear cut [00:13:20] violation of international law the international norms there are covenants there [00:13:24] can't conventions internationally that forbid and prohibit [00:13:28] in categorical terms of any military [00:13:32] advancement or strike when it comes to the civilian [00:13:35] infrastructure? no, I agree with that, it it [00:13:38] it is, it is a war crime [00:13:39] and look, we've seen nothing but war crimes for the past four and a half years [00:13:43] and we see the international community largely ignored them, [00:13:46] okay? so yes a war crimes, civilians were killed, [00:13:50] civilians were the target, okay, riad is the airport that they [00:13:54] struck as sivil. airport, it's not a military airport, it's a civilian airport, it was [00:13:57] delivered and it got what they wanted, which was [00:14:00] attention to their cause attention to Iran's [00:14:04] cause, and they believe that by escalating and getting that type [00:14:08] of attention that the other nations in the region, the other gulf state [00:14:12] nations in Jordan and Israel, will somehow back [00:14:15] off of off either Iran or back off off [00:14:19] the hoothi, but all that's really done is just in my [00:14:23] opinion is just yeah. it further escalates the situation and it's [00:14:27] going to possibly cause an expansion the war. okay, when i say expansion [00:14:31] the war, mean saudi Arabia retaliating, but retaliatory [00:14:35] strikes don't win wars, they just make you feel better at the end the day, but it could [00:14:39] involve Pakistan, it could also involve Turkey uh, and as you [00:14:43] stated in your opening uh piece, both them are signatories to the [00:14:47] Mecca agreement, but it's also understand that they signed that document almost three [00:14:51] months ago uh, so it's very um, we're [00:14:54] a time. right now uh that that one or two [00:14:58] actions on the battlefield can cause strategic consequences [00:15:01] and and we're starting to see that right now on the ground [00:15:05] there [00:15:06] in in the middle east right colnel sweet if you allow me please stay with [00:15:09] us i'll proceed towards Mark what's [00:15:13] your understanding when we specifically talk about the options [00:15:17] resting right now after this horrific attack against civilian [00:15:21] infrastructure in the kingdom what options resting? the [00:15:25] kingdom of Saudi Arabia when it has promised a [00:15:28] decisive response in return to towards the [00:15:31] hoothies, right? now greetings to you and your [00:15:35] viewers, look, I agree with what? my colleague John Swed is [00:15:39] saying uh, I think the uh Hothies are messaging here trying [00:15:43] to bring attention to their cause by attacking the King [00:15:46] Khalid airport, which is a civilian airport, clearly [00:15:50] uh they're not only just committing a war crime uh but they're trying to send lout [00:15:54] exclamation mark that they don't mind uh because they view that [00:15:57] as is uh key to getting their global message out [00:16:01] there, that set, I think there's also two other messages that are happening [00:16:05] that will impact the nature of Saudi. garibia's response uh, this kind [00:16:09] of attack, this type of horrific attack where 12 people were killed, didn't [00:16:13] happen a vacuum, i highly suspect that the [00:16:17] approaching us midterms also motivated the hoothies to [00:16:20] act by attacking a US all in the region by [00:16:24] attacking the sunni state at that um and that they are [00:16:27] attempting to influence oil prices and in [00:16:31] probably Iran is behind this, not probably, we know that Iran is behind this, the [00:16:34] IGC has been less effective of late in terms. of interdicting [00:16:38] uh oil supplies going through the straight of chamoz, and so they need the hoothies to [00:16:42] be escalating in the babomed straight in the red sea in general, and [00:16:46] I think that's why we've seen this action of late with the Housies taking the red sea [00:16:50] coastal areas and now forcing Saudi Arabia to come [00:16:53] back, so Saudi Arabia has a big decision ahead them, [00:16:57] they need to ask themselves, are we going to continue to manage this conflict [00:17:01] as we have for you, two decades, this goes back to [00:17:05] 2015 uh where they just want to... managed to a stailmate because that's [00:17:09] certainly been their approach, it's certainly been the yemini government approach [00:17:12] uh, however a stailmate has got them vulnerable where they're at now, because [00:17:16] Iran over that same time period is been supplying [00:17:19] um via the IRGC uh the huties with ballistic missiles and drones and [00:17:23] they're coming under attack so so far Saudi Arabia in terms the [00:17:27] firm response that their defense spokesman uh made this [00:17:31] morning or yesterday depending on what time zone you're in um yeah if it's just [00:17:35] going to be more air strikes if it's only going to be long to ground type [00:17:38] support [00:17:40] uh for operations to retake territory control by the hooties, I don't think [00:17:43] much changes uh, and you know Pakistan itself as part of this [00:17:47] Mecca agreement is also going to have to be deciding whether or not they're going [00:17:51] to hear their own 2015 uh decision not to involve [00:17:55] themselves in offensive operations uh in Yemen but simply [00:17:59] to resort to or I mean to uh refrain themselves from [00:18:03] that but just to basically be there to defend holy sights and [00:18:07] and uh civilian sites within the kingdom of Saudi Arabia [00:18:10] itself uh so Saudi Arabia has a big choice here, it's not clear which way [00:18:14] they're going to do uh, but I do think they need to be doing more air streaks, I think [00:18:18] they need to be considering the introduction of of ground forces if [00:18:22] only a limited basis and and and quickly here I think they also need to be [00:18:26] talking to the necca partners how they can bring this about because if [00:18:30] not this is just going to be rince and repeat and Saudi Arabia in the region will keep [00:18:34] facing this crisis uh the Houties are not going away and unless they're [00:18:37] defeated. Mark, I'll come back to [00:18:41] you. coming back to you colnel Sweet, when we try to understand the [00:18:45] US position with Hoodies. now, there was an [00:18:49] earlier stance, we know for fact a few weeks back, [00:18:53] there was a statement made by president himself [00:18:56] that perhaps there was some sort of an engagement when it [00:19:00] comes to the US and Houtis and Houties didn't want the [00:19:04] US to come after them. now... looking at [00:19:08] this spec specific attack, [00:19:11] president Trump was himself asked whether they could be a [00:19:15] US military involvement and he said we may, it's not [00:19:19] an official confirmation as we do have clarity on [00:19:23] that, but what could be the likelihood the US involvement at [00:19:27] this stage going against the hoothies? do [00:19:30] you think the US just before the midterm elections could afford to be involved [00:19:34] militarily on another front? just when it is involved [00:19:38] directly with Iran on the other side? sure, [00:19:42] look, great question. look, I'm going to take you back to March of 2025, from March to [00:19:46] May 2025, the United States was involved an operation called Ruff [00:19:49] Rider, in which they bombed right, hoothy targets for the better part of [00:19:53] 45 days and if you recall when the cease fire was [00:19:57] announced, the uh the agreement for the most part was the Houti [00:20:01] said we won't we won't attack US ships if you stop bombing us right, [00:20:05] and that was it, and that supposedly was the end the... operation, an operation [00:20:09] by the way, which the Saudi Arabia government sat back and watched and did not [00:20:12] participate, uh, they're probably thinking they probably should have done [00:20:16] that earlier. look, the president says he may consider [00:20:20] striking targets in yemen, um, i would say if he goes after [00:20:23] targets in yemen that those targets are going to be IRGC [00:20:27] targets, irgc forces that are supporting hoothi rebels at ballistic [00:20:31] missile sites at ports where missiles are arriving [00:20:35] at training facilities, so the... may be some additional strikes that occur, i [00:20:39] don't necessarily think he's going to be chasing hoothi, i think he's going to be chasing the [00:20:43] source, and the source in this case in my opinion is [00:20:46] Iran, uh, right uh... [00:20:50] Okay, colnel Sweet, when we try to understand the overall scheme of things, [00:20:54] when we talk about what were the objectives which was said by [00:20:57] Trump administration, when we talk about its invasion [00:21:01] against Iran, so far more [00:21:04] than more than eight months into that particular [00:21:08] conflict, there is announcement that perhaps the [00:21:11] newer strikes might come after the midterm [00:21:15] elections, now we've also seen the [00:21:19] approval. for President Trump going down before the midterm [00:21:23] elections, now if if in case there happens [00:21:27] to be a military involvement on part the US [00:21:31] to support Saudi Arabia against the hoothies, what [00:21:35] sort of an impact this military involvement do you think it could [00:21:39] have generally on the public opinion just before the [00:21:42] elections? yeah, look, I see it two ways, [00:21:46] okay, and I'll go back to what Marcus said, [00:21:50] retiratory strikes, if it's just hitting buildings and uh [00:21:53] and and showing battle damage assessment videos to the American public and how successful [00:21:57] we were, it blowing things up, then I don't think the impact is anything, be quite [00:22:01] honest with because it doesn't achieve anything, if the impact is fall [00:22:05] of regime, if the impact is the opening the straight because there's [00:22:09] nobody firing into either the bob uh bob [00:22:13] almandab or into the straight of hormos and safe passages [00:22:16] occurring and we're seeing a sense peace breakout. [00:22:20] to the middle east, I think it has a positive impact, but right now the targets, [00:22:24] at least, as axios reported, the possible targets that the [00:22:28] president had mentioned earlier were Iranian energy, Iranian [00:22:31] infrastructure and nuclear targets, none them included the [00:22:35] IRGC by name, and none them include the possibility of taking the [00:22:39] regime down, so retaliatory strides and massive assaults [00:22:42] up to now, as you just said, eight months into a conflict, having [00:22:46] achieved the desired result, in this case the desired result. will [00:22:50] be uh the fall the regime, what it has done is limit their [00:22:53] abilities to respond conventionally, but they still [00:22:57] have, as far as we understand, they still have some enriched uranium, and they still [00:23:01] have asymmetric capability that threatens the entire [00:23:04] region, and addition, it's been threatening Great Britain and other [00:23:08] allies throughout Europe, because their ability to leverage proxies and [00:23:12] sleeper cells, so Iran continues to be a problem, and unless he [00:23:16] addresses the problem, which is the regime, that [00:23:19] I don't think he's as much headway in united states right, [00:23:23] mr. colnel jonathan e sweet co-founder at internet [00:23:26] 360 retire from US army, thank you very much for taking time out for [00:23:30] on full tonight, really appreciate. coming back to you, mark, what's your [00:23:34] assessment, what is the likelihood the us getting [00:23:37] militarily involved in support of Saudi Arabia again is given the [00:23:41] fact there was an earlier statement or a stance on the part of president [00:23:45] himself when he said publicly the truties have [00:23:49] asked him not to go behind them after them, [00:23:52] sorry, right? now i really doubt that [00:23:56] president Trump is going to be willing to initiate any wide scale [00:23:59] attacks at this point in support of Saudi Arabia ahead the [00:24:03] midterms, simply because he's trying to manage oil prices and by [00:24:07] extension gas prices to the average American consumer [00:24:11] and ultimately voter. now after the mid-terms of November [00:24:14] 3rd, he certainly all options are open. i would [00:24:18] say it's notable that he came. out and uh [00:24:21] stated um uh that uh he's considering strikes, so I think you can [00:24:25] interpret that as messaging from President Trump uh to the hoothies that [00:24:29] look, you may be uh [00:24:31] you know uh creating a problem right now, but I'm going to be willing to solve it [00:24:35] most likely later after the mid-terms and he'll certainly be free to do [00:24:39] that uh and I think it's going to be needed because I think if you just step back and you look at the [00:24:43] battlefield uh in the maps initially it was uh you know [00:24:47] in the last 10 days or so Saudi Arabia the coalition. led by [00:24:50] Saudi Arabian umini forces that were taking the initiative uh they were [00:24:54] able to start sweeping toward the coastal plane to try to retake that [00:24:58] territory, but in the last several days it's actually been the hoothis who regained [00:25:02] the initiative in and around to the tas uh [00:25:05] the the kind the political [00:25:09] gold star that they want to win for themselves uh but they've been repuft [00:25:13] so far um you know but also the the the Yumini back [00:25:17] forces struggled in the marine i'm sorry the marib [00:25:20] governant, which is a mountain this region to try to be a supporting operation to [00:25:24] the coastal military operations, but that hasn't gone well either for the [00:25:28] coalition, so definitely Saudis are going to need [00:25:31] help, they're going to need it from the United States and they're going to need it from the Mecca [00:25:35] agreement, because right now to me it's a [00:25:38] stalemate. okay [00:25:41] now um Mark, here's the interesting [00:25:44] dimension now, there are multiple fronts for as [00:25:48] hutis which... or they are involved on multiple fronts, [00:25:52] when we talk about against the kingdom of Saudi Arabia itself, then [00:25:56] in the Red Sea, the reports coming, there is an intensification, the [00:25:59] fighting against the Yemini government itself, first... First of all, I want you [00:26:03] understanding where where do the hoothies get this [00:26:06] capacity from, and [00:26:10] what's actually the basis of that? Also, [00:26:14] while lot of countries, international organizations such as the UN and [00:26:18] EU have condemned this airport attack, [00:26:21] now European Commission president has also [00:26:25] condemned it, but at the same time she has [00:26:28] characterized the Hutis as Iran's proxies now. [00:26:32] "there is another dimension when when we try to analyze this one, just [00:26:36] few days back there was a possibility, there was an expression of [00:26:40] interest on the part the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman [00:26:44] that Iran's good offices could help mediate, [00:26:47] resolve the crisis between kingdom of Saudi [00:26:50] Arabia and the hoothies. looking at [00:26:54] all these aspects, what's your conclusion, [00:26:57] do we understand there is a direct backing for the capacity the Hothies when it [00:27:01] comes to Iran?" " or if it is not there, could Iran play [00:27:05] a mediating role at this point? no, that's a [00:27:09] great question, and I think it really goes to the heart the problem that [00:27:13] Iran has created for itself and for the rest the mide east. Iran [00:27:16] clearly is behind this, the huties didn't find arms out of nowhere. uh, they're [00:27:20] using Russian equipment, they have Iranian ballistic missiles and drones [00:27:24] and the IRGC, have feed on the ground, boots on the [00:27:27] ground inside controlled territory in [00:27:31] Yemen. "and so clearly they are the sponsors [00:27:34] of it, so it's a little bit too faced in my opinion for the Iranians to be coming [00:27:38] out and saying they can broker a peace because they're actually behind this war [00:27:41] in my opinion [00:27:43] and so from that st i think it's it's tricky and don't just take my [00:27:46] word for it, i think [00:27:47] you know if you look to king abdullah the second of jordan back in [00:27:51] 2004 uh [00:27:52] you now we're talking 22 years ago now uh he warned the arab [00:27:56] world that this uh access of resistance that was aimed at Israel [00:28:00] think of that what you might uh" was also in effect the shia [00:28:04] crecent that Iran was aiming at the sunni world [00:28:07] uh and and it's come to firation, we've seen that just on the attacks that Iran has been willing [00:28:11] to do during the Gulf war in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi [00:28:15] Arabia and the like and the United Arab Emirates, and and now we've certainly seen it [00:28:19] in terms of indirectly through the hoothies by them [00:28:22] attacking Saudi Arabia, so I don't think [00:28:26] Iran is that mediator uh simply because they're behind this, it's it's to [00:28:30] their benefit right now to... second front and the [00:28:34] hoothies are willing to do that. now i would just quickly add here the the hoothies [00:28:38] act in many different ways, clearly the chief backer is around, but [00:28:42] obviously they have their own interests, so this is just one angle, they [00:28:46] have a long-term war against Saudi Arabia, but they're also willing to be allies [00:28:50] to help Iran out, because in their minds it helps [00:28:52] them out. okay, Mark, I'll come back to you, we're honored to being joined by [00:28:56] another participant, miss Lee, and gented [00:29:00] at arabia english, leave, thank you. much for being with us, once again [00:29:03] taking time out for unfold, we really appreciate you being with us [00:29:07] once again, a very critical moment when [00:29:11] there are direct strikes against the civilian infrastructure by the [00:29:15] hoothies inside kingdom of Saudi Arabia, could you [00:29:19] give us an understanding what's the situation right now? there are reports [00:29:23] the civil civil aviation [00:29:26] disruption there as well visa with this airport as well, [00:29:30] hundreds of flies either been canceled. or diverted, [00:29:34] what's the situation on the ground as we [00:29:36] speak? good evening to you, so the [00:29:40] situation on the ground is that we have had official [00:29:43] confirmation today from the civil aviation [00:29:47] authority that injuries have been reported once [00:29:51] again at the international airport here in Riad, [00:29:55] King Khalid airport, there was a [00:29:58] missile strike on the airport terminal four, this was... [00:30:02] intercepted, however it did cause fire, so we are [00:30:06] getting reports of injuries once again at the [00:30:10] airport, [00:30:10] and of course this comes after yesterday's strike on [00:30:14] the airport inside of Riyad, which killed um 12 [00:30:18] people, but also injured more than [00:30:21] 309 people, and we're just getting reports [00:30:24] out now, the Indian embassy has come forward and said [00:30:28] one of its citizens who was in that deadly... [00:30:32] blast yesterday has now succumbed to injuries and lost his [00:30:36] life, so that puts the death toll of yesterday's attack [00:30:40] up to 13, and it's been a really tragic [00:30:44] day in Saudi yesterday, we lost a four [00:30:47] Saudi citizens were killed, a US citizen was killed [00:30:51] along with many other nationalities in that [00:30:55] blast that happened, but today as the aviation authority is [00:30:59] saying, they...
