[00:00:00] دسته های قدیمی سرزمینمونو تو دلش [00:00:03] of داره خلیج فارس برای [00:00:07] همه ما [00:00:08] ایرانیاست. [00:00:17] of [00:00:18] of [00:00:36] of Hello [00:00:38] of everyone [00:00:40] and welcome to Press TV's news review program where we get in depth in one [00:00:43] of the days top stories and now uh in review uh [00:00:47] Greenland has strongly warned US against any drilling its [00:00:50] territory following reports an [00:00:52] in American company is preparing to explore for [00:00:55] of oil in the Arctic Island. It's in fact a company out of uh Texas [00:00:58] and it's just more than report that this american company is preparing to explore, in fact [00:01:02] locals in that [00:01:03] of small island, we'll get into the uh uh specifics about the island uh, the locals [00:01:07] just said that they've seen in the past few days a number of ships carrying [00:01:11] dozens of containers with said equipment [00:01:15] on board so this morthen just [00:01:16] a report, it's unfolding in real time, joining us for this conversation is [00:01:20] Marcia Baker, economic expert out of Washington DC and Greg [00:01:24] Simons, professor of journalism a Daffodil [00:01:27] of international university from Dhaka, uh hello to the both. and a pleasure to have you on [00:01:31] the program, marcia, we're going to start with you, your initial thoughts, we've heard lot of [00:01:34] speculation, the Donald [00:01:36] of Trump, all the conjecture, oh we're going to take in - annex Greenland, it's vital [00:01:40] for our national security, but this is kind of a blow below the belt cuz it seemed [00:01:44] like he was kind of letting go that deal for a while, but apparently the CEO [00:01:48] of this company is in Trump's inner circle and here he is trying [00:01:51] to basically okey doke through the back door and get a [00:01:56] a Greenland soil and explore for oil, it's nuts. [00:02:01] Well, I think what you see is an [00:02:04] of expression [00:02:04] of the kind of imperialist foreign [00:02:08] policy, not diplomacy foreign policy, not [00:02:11] economic foreign policy, [00:02:14] in that's characteristic of both President Trump's [00:02:17] personality as well as the current [00:02:21] governing outlook in Washington. Now, what you [00:02:24] say about the oil company from Texas, I have no [00:02:28] more [00:02:29] of inside information. but the president Trump [00:02:33] himself, [00:02:33] I think, last week a podcast called real [00:02:37] America [00:02:39] in voice repeated what we know to be [00:02:42] his claim that Greenland ought to be part [00:02:46] of the United [00:02:47] in States, which he said in Turkey at [00:02:51] of the at the recent summit, um, [00:02:55] and so he occasionally repeats [00:02:59] this: and [00:03:01] a it's uh in many respects of course [00:03:04] it's completely [00:03:07] of wrong, [00:03:07] a but it's part [00:03:09] of of the kind of thing he does, it's part [00:03:10] of the northern version, I guess you could say, of [00:03:14] what's called the shield [00:03:16] of the Americas, which in March this year [00:03:20] was announced by the Trump administration regarding imperialist [00:03:24] rights to South America, so that's I think how to [00:03:27] look at it from the top. Good stuff, thank you, [00:03:31] Mr. Faker, and let me give our viewers a quick uh, recap, or not recap, [00:03:35] but quick quick summary [00:03:37] of the details involved here before we swing over to Greg Simons, um, the [00:03:41] executives at Greenland Energy, that's the name of this company out of Texas, [00:03:45] uh, they claim that there's at least a trillion dollars worth [00:03:49] of crude beneath Jameson Land region, it's a [00:03:52] small island there, part of Greenland, [00:03:55] of um, that's over 30 billion barrels of [00:03:59] of crude and... [00:04:00] they announced plans to spend some $60 million in drilling two wells there to [00:04:03] find out and all the greenland stop the issuing new licenses that [00:04:06] says uh with respect to oil back in [00:04:09] 2021 a UK company called [00:04:13] 80 mile had secured exploration rights in jamesson land that's the [00:04:16] only company that was able to do that was out [00:04:19] of the uk and they have nothing to do with this texas company and the funny thing here [00:04:23] greg i'm going [00:04:24] to come to you now greenland energy has retained dr phil of all people phil [00:04:28] mcgraw a prominent right-wing former chat show host who served on Trump's [00:04:32] religious freedom [00:04:33] a commission to make documentary series that will capture the mission [00:04:36] of the modern day wild catters it says now Larry Swetz Greenland's [00:04:39] energy's a chair and big shareholder appears to enjoy access to [00:04:43] Trump circle he has said the oil project though is quote [00:04:47] not related to American annexation and quote Greg lot to [00:04:51] unpack here bud your initial [00:04:55] of thoughts [00:04:56] a well I mean it's a sharad what you have with [00:05:00] Trump at the moment, because he's playing lot of different [00:05:03] games simultaneously, even if he has [00:05:07] very restricted and limited mental [00:05:10] intelligence, he tries. to play this shell [00:05:13] game, so he he tried to play his hand with [00:05:17] Iran, [00:05:19] failed, [00:05:24] one uh, so he thinks in the short term with Venezuela, so [00:05:28] he's just trying different things and I think [00:05:31] Greenland is is backup for him uh, because this [00:05:35] gives a attempt in Trump's mind [00:05:39] to save his loss of face. about his [00:05:43] humiliating uh defeat with Iran [00:05:46] and I mean it's been wonderfully [00:05:49] humiliating because he's managed to achieve nothing that [00:05:53] he and his masters uh BB Netanyahu [00:05:57] and so forth set out to do [00:05:59] so it seems and of course [00:06:03] he's perpetually uh what do you say [00:06:07] captivated by shiny objects uh [00:06:10] so he's just... gross and grossed [00:06:13] in this idea of making money for him and his friends [00:06:17] and so Greenland as noted it might [00:06:21] have lot of potential there for them [00:06:24] to and rip off and of [00:06:28] course it's not protected, [00:06:31] mean Denmark is not a [00:06:35] credible power to actually resist us if [00:06:38] it decides to do so. the fact that he said it again. [00:06:42] recently uh means that he's still looking for [00:06:46] this so-called dignified exit from Iran and [00:06:50] to show what's left of his supporters uh that [00:06:54] he gives [00:06:56] them okay [00:07:00] Greg Greg it seems like we're having [00:07:04] greg we're having we're having connectivity issues [00:07:06] this is about trump great can you hear me and [00:07:10] it's about his brand and [00:07:13] image, yes, I hear you, okay, we're having, I hear you loud and [00:07:17] clear, can you can you log off and log back on, coordinate with our coordinator because we're [00:07:21] having a technical uh issues, making out exactly what you're saying, we're only [00:07:25] getting about 60, 70% of what your your statements there, so if you [00:07:28] can, see if you could rectify that, I'm going to go to marcia back to Marcia real quick, [00:07:32] Marcia, do you buy it, the uh ceo of this uh company greenland [00:07:36] energy said this is no way related to American annexation, but [00:07:39] also he sent few representatives the company. [00:07:42] out there to Jameson Land to a community meeting back in June and they said they [00:07:46] told the locals they had permission to drill there and then later when [00:07:50] a locals checked with the government the government said no they don't they do not we [00:07:53] don't they came there and told you guys this the the the CEO said our [00:07:57] enthusiasm for the project let us to communicate a way that created [00:08:01] confusion uh are you buying this that their uh [00:08:05] little mission here has nothing to do with America's [00:08:07] annexation well there [00:08:10] i think that what you have is reflex [00:08:14] reaction in Washington by the Trump [00:08:17] administration, the president might say [00:08:21] anything right or wrong and even change it the next [00:08:25] day, so that [00:08:28] the fact of this claim [00:08:32] by any Texan organization that has the [00:08:36] right is just part of this kind of fictional [00:08:39] reflex reaction. I can't say... "I do not [00:08:43] have on the ground intelligence [00:08:46] about what they are shipping there to Greenland, if they're [00:08:50] going to explore, but the but the fact that President [00:08:54] Trump has reiterated that Greenland [00:08:57] belongs to the United States, even in [00:09:00] the July 31st blog show, [00:09:04] and recently, is just part of [00:09:07] this debased foreign policy [00:09:11] approach." of, as I called it, an imperialist [00:09:15] foreign policy, not economics, not economics of oil. [00:09:19] The United States in reality, of course, [00:09:23] has onshore oil, onshore [00:09:26] gas, tremendous resources in [00:09:29] Alaska, there's no need for [00:09:32] this, any, there's no [00:09:36] basis for needing anything in [00:09:39] Greelland in the way of fossil. [00:09:42] fuels, what it is is clash [00:09:46] of this approach of threatening [00:09:49] to um acquire and simply [00:09:53] take Greenland in in contradiction to [00:09:57] the way Russia is developing northern sea [00:09:59] route, China is working in the area [00:10:03] on research and using the northern sear [00:10:07] root, so you have clash of foreign [00:10:10] policy shown, [00:10:12] in the greenland question right, [00:10:16] and marcia, you mentioned debase foreign policy, let's talk about the [00:10:20] debates foreign policy out of DC, especially with the Trump administration, [00:10:24] Trump speaks. of annexation of Greenland, it gets [00:10:28] his NATO allies uh furious and [00:10:32] then he goes after them and he's done that even in his term first term and their lack of [00:10:36] funding when it comes to the member states funding uh [00:10:39] NATO adequately saying that the US is basically making up too much the brunt [00:10:43] the funding for a NATO and then he attacks through [00:10:47] the these terrif wars all uh America's longstanding [00:10:50] European allies and then when he attacks Iran he asks for their help [00:10:54] and... Iran or at least trying to rest control the straight of hormose, he wants the [00:10:58] Europeans involved in that endeavor, and it's obvious that [00:11:02] come they gave him a go cold shoulder uh when he asked him for help, [00:11:05] and uh this Donald Trump's policy seems all over the place, it's like [00:11:09] one minute, he wants to annex parts of Europe and then he criticizes and he [00:11:13] carries these trade wars against them, next minute he wants some help [00:11:17] a in new about of adventurism, is this man [00:11:20] confused? well you have [00:11:23] correctly just... described the [00:11:27] character the failing policy out of Washington [00:11:31] DC right now, whether it is trade, [00:11:34] whether it is um foreign relations based [00:11:38] on respect for sovereignty, it [00:11:41] flip-fops one day to the next, but [00:11:45] it in Washington terms it has taken [00:11:48] a very bad turn for the worst, as you will [00:11:52] know um regarding. outright [00:11:55] warfare in southwest Asia, but [00:11:59] also the uh the tempo [00:12:03] in Washington is to join with the [00:12:06] crazy European leader saying Russia is going [00:12:10] to soon invade Europe, invade [00:12:13] Poland, invade Lithuania or the other Baltic [00:12:17] states. Yesterday in the United States Senate [00:12:21] a vote was taken to approve. [00:12:25] news ferocious sanctions on Russia. This is [00:12:29] part the debased policy. It it it has [00:12:32] not passed the House of Representatives, which will not convene [00:12:36] again to September, but we are a very extreme [00:12:40] state of danger, because this has all been [00:12:44] accompanied by discussions of [00:12:47] potential local technical nuclear war, [00:12:51] completely dangerous. So, fortunately, [00:12:55] inside the United States, I can tell you [00:12:59] there are more voices and more [00:13:02] expressions of opposition to the [00:13:05] insanity in Washington DC, [00:13:08] so the um the that is [00:13:12] the strategic danger, and on the [00:13:16] economic side, you asked about [00:13:20] Greenland, [00:13:21] it is crazy what Washington is doing. [00:13:25] guarding other outlying pieces [00:13:29] of land in the Americas, Puerto Rico, [00:13:32] for example, territory the United States now [00:13:36] does has much of its water shut [00:13:39] off, it is ratening water, it [00:13:43] its electricity is in trouble, Washington is [00:13:47] threatening Cuba, so [00:13:50] the disgrace of Washington [00:13:54] right now, is extreme and the [00:13:57] voices inside the United States calling for an [00:14:01] alternative, if they call loud enough, [00:14:05] this is very important for the future of humanity, [00:14:09] and time and again uh Marcia, you've heard Donald Trump say that, [00:14:12] oh, if we take uh Greenland and annex it, it's really good for [00:14:15] U.S. national security, okay, it brings you few hundred miles closer to [00:14:19] Russia, and perhaps now uh, Iran or anyone else he has his eyes on [00:14:23] in the future on this side the world. but uh in essence you're going to for [00:14:27] those few hundred miles getting closer to your uh adversaries, well [00:14:31] guess what, you're going to for that one, I mean aren't you for that one step, [00:14:35] gaining that one step, losing three or four steps if you lose your European partners [00:14:39] in the process, how does that benefit us foreign policy and its [00:14:43] security? there's no benefit [00:14:46] whatsoever in being a bully and saying we'll [00:14:50] take over greenland in order to in fact [00:14:53] create as you said, more confrontation with Europe, more [00:14:57] confrontation with China, more confrontation with [00:15:01] Russia, this is a disgrace and [00:15:05] it's debased, and I want to contrast [00:15:08] that to the traditional American [00:15:12] foreign policy going back, a [00:15:16] generation or hundred years, when for [00:15:19] example, the US collaborated in what was [00:15:23] called the Arctic Council. which still [00:15:25] exists, and the Alaska, [00:15:29] the governor there who's famous, he died, Walter Hickle [00:15:33] collaborated with Russia, collaborated with China. [00:15:37] collaborated with the Scandinavian northern countries [00:15:41] the Arctic. In fact, Walter [00:15:44] Hickle in Alaska wanted a bridge between [00:15:48] Russia, Chikotka, it was called it is, and [00:15:52] Alaska, [00:15:53] and this was raised when President Trump and Putin [00:15:57] met in Alaska, but the war crazies [00:16:00] of Europe and Washington combined [00:16:04] are doing everything to oppose this. so [00:16:08] Greenland is just one of those expressions, one [00:16:12] of those pawns the crazy side the [00:16:15] United States, as opposed to the traditional [00:16:19] pro-development, mutual interest [00:16:22] side that it can exist again [00:16:25] if we here in the United States, I assure you [00:16:29] with Europe too, are trying to shift back [00:16:33] to to get that beneficial side. [00:16:38] "I, I can be explicit, there is, [00:16:41] um, an international petition [00:16:45] that western leaders should call a peace [00:16:48] conference immediately, like the Pope, the [00:16:52] Catholic leader in Rome could call the peace [00:16:55] conference. This has, this is getting [00:16:59] lot of momentum inside the United States, [00:17:03] because one the bishops in New Mexico [00:17:06] named. [00:17:07] are bishop the wester is of this viewpoint in the [00:17:11] past, so we are a very critical [00:17:15] point, and the question of raising greenland [00:17:19] as another target for us annexation [00:17:23] just makes the point that Washington is crazy as well as [00:17:26] immoral. Greg, it seems like [00:17:31] Europeans we have you back, Mr. Greg Simon, so why quiet on this? It's not a developing story, I mean just in the [00:17:35] past three weeks to a month, this is bef. for all the [00:17:39] uh uh the rhetorics involving this this company out of [00:17:42] Texas or just over the last three weeks they've moved dozens of [00:17:46] containers onto this island the Jamesson land and also by mid [00:17:50] September they're planning on sending another 300 uh uh [00:17:53] containers involving hardware to start drilling um but throughout [00:17:57] this entire time and and Miss Baker say that she like to [00:18:01] see emergency peace summit put together to try to address [00:18:05] Donald Trump's adventurism and his dangers to... world community, you have the Europeans [00:18:09] here awfully quiet, not NATO is saying a word about this, not the European [00:18:12] Union, [00:18:13] why [00:18:18] peace, yeah, this peace submit is [00:18:22] just, yeah, how is it going to work would be [00:18:26] the question, because one the points about [00:18:29] peace, even if you do not like each other, you should be [00:18:33] able to uh actually trust one another. [00:18:38] clearly when you [00:18:40] have uh [00:18:43] countries the global north especially the US [00:18:47] but also the European countries [00:18:49] uh there is no trust and you're talking peace uh [00:18:53] there's been a long history of perfedy uh by [00:18:57] especially by the US so this point [00:19:01] of trying to bring about some kind of peace is [00:19:05] moved and it's because [00:19:09] the the US, especially under Trump, but of course even before [00:19:13] Trump came, this was a problem, they they [00:19:16] would talk one thing uh, and do [00:19:20] something else, so there's been a long [00:19:24] history of this dissonance between what they [00:19:28] say and what they do, and this has only got worse, [00:19:31] and I think one the underlying reasons for this [00:19:35] is that Pax Americana. is unfolding, it's [00:19:39] collapsing, and when an empire goes into [00:19:42] decline uh, it it gets more [00:19:46] desperate, it gets more reckless in terms [00:19:50] of its thinking and its behavior, it does not want to give [00:19:53] up the privileges of empire, mean empires [00:19:57] in the past have been doing this, whether it's the british empire, but [00:20:01] now in particular we see [00:20:04] the the same pattern unfolding with Pax Amerikana. [00:20:07] so people like talk peace, but what you what [00:20:11] you do see is that there is a certain amount of [00:20:15] hedging and the hedging is not only by [00:20:19] targets and opponents [00:20:22] of us, but even its allies [00:20:26] at the moment, so this whole whole system is [00:20:30] unfolding, which yeah, mean it makes the talk the idea [00:20:34] of sustainable or feasible piece. is [00:20:37] increasingly difficult and marcia, you want to [00:20:41] get, can i get your take on that too, because uh, there's a grossly [00:20:45] illegal, blatantly illegal drilling project, illegal because obviously they're moving [00:20:49] forward without greenland's approval to come onto their soil and drill [00:20:53] for uh oil um and you have NATO and European awfully quiet, [00:20:57] how do we how can we make sense of that? I'll give you two [00:21:01] points, one is that [00:21:04] the Washington in in moving on [00:21:08] Greenland in this way about oil is very [00:21:12] blatant, [00:21:13] they aren't uh duplicitus, look what they're doing in [00:21:16] Venezuela, moved in, kept the [00:21:20] president and are now selling Venezuelas [00:21:23] oil to American and other companies [00:21:27] benefit, so this is [00:21:30] blatant, blatantly criminal, immoral, everything [00:21:34] you want to say about it, [00:21:37] so it's not sneaky, it's in your face, [00:21:41] and and it's typical that aside, [00:21:44] many the European leaders themselves are [00:21:48] equally. comprehensible, they do not have [00:21:52] public support, [00:21:54] in France, in [00:21:58] Germany, Britain [00:22:00] has changed its leaders so often in the last couple years, you [00:22:03] can't keep track, because these [00:22:06] individuals, whatever they do or don't say about [00:22:10] Greenland, are lying and [00:22:12] mobilizing for armment, for example [00:22:16] against Russia saying that Russia is ready to... [00:22:20] Europe a lie, not true, so [00:22:24] you shouldn't expect anything about the [00:22:27] leadership elite class of Europe, I [00:22:31] will say [00:22:31] there are other voices that have been in [00:22:35] office or are still strong, that are speaking [00:22:38] out to stop this madness, one is General [00:22:42] Harold Kuyot retired in Germany who was [00:22:46] formerly top German military. fair [00:22:50] leader and also in NATO in Brussels, he had [00:22:53] top position. Another one is Admiral [00:22:57] Vad, VAD in Germany, he is speaking [00:23:00] out in many locations [00:23:03] currently saying, this is insane [00:23:07] to say, to justify what Europe is doing, [00:23:11] claiming that Russia is going to invade europe, so you have [00:23:15] to see that the the European elite [00:23:19] currently in office has less than 10 [00:23:22] 5% support uh people like I [00:23:26] mentioned merts, so we we are living a [00:23:29] very rapidly shifting situation in [00:23:33] which people in the west calling out [00:23:36] for stopping the war in Iran, stopping [00:23:39] Netanyahu, stopping what Trump is doing, could [00:23:43] make all the difference in history.
