[00:00:24] of [00:00:24] of [00:00:24] of [00:00:44] of [00:00:51] of [00:01:02] of [00:01:02] of [00:01:08] of of [00:01:08] in [00:01:16] of [00:01:22] of [00:01:36] of [00:01:41] in [00:01:45] of of of [00:01:55] of [00:02:06] of [00:02:11] in [00:02:43] of [00:02:48] Good evening, in tonight's a spotlight, we turn to the brick summit [00:02:52] in New Delhi where member states have unanimously adopted a [00:02:56] declaration challenging unilateralism sanctions. [00:03:00] and the existing imbalance in global governance. the block has [00:03:04] expressed serious concern over attacks on civilian [00:03:07] of infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities, while demanding [00:03:11] greater protection for Palestinians and an end to the [00:03:14] unlawful occupation of palestinian [00:03:17] of territories. it has also warned against the far reaching consequences of [00:03:21] unilateral coersive measures and economic sanctions. but [00:03:25] Iran has gone further calling on bricks to take concrete [00:03:29] me and operate... steps against unilateral sanctions, expand [00:03:33] trade national currencies and develop independent payment [00:03:36] mechanisms. Terron is also pushing for reforms to [00:03:39] international institutions, including the United Nations [00:03:43] Security Council and the global financial system, [00:03:47] so [00:03:47] is bricks gradually becoming an alternative poll [00:03:50] in a changing international order and can a grouping that [00:03:54] includes countries with very different interests actually challenge the [00:03:58] structures of a system. system is still dominated [00:04:02] by western institutions, that's what we'll be discussing tonight with [00:04:06] our [00:04:06] guests. [00:04:10] christoph horstol author and politician join us from the city of [00:04:14] Berlin, [00:04:20] and Gilbert Doctor, independent international affairs analyst joined us [00:04:24] from the study of Brussels. [00:04:27] gentlemen, both of you, thank you so much for joining. me at this hour, let [00:04:31] me start with Mr. [00:04:33] of Horstell, this New Delhi's declaration [00:04:36] does not name the U.S. and Israel directly, but it talks [00:04:40] about attacks against civilian infrastructure [00:04:44] and also also peaceful nuclear facilities. how significant do [00:04:48] you see this? i think this whole [00:04:52] brick summit is [00:04:54] in historic, of and the speech by president [00:04:58] Peseskian will also... were going down as [00:05:01] golden and [00:05:02] you know door breaking in history because [00:05:06] he has in history because he has [00:05:09] of very very strongly um... [00:05:13] that this rule and accompanied by [00:05:17] currency rule must finally come to an end and [00:05:21] that all countries have [00:05:22] the right to participate and that in fact bricks [00:05:26] is the one forum where these powers for [00:05:30] freedom and for security for commune security [00:05:34] and for the stopping the rule the [00:05:37] dollar that this can be developed in bricks and that was very [00:05:41] strong and I think it ignited somehow [00:05:44] bricks. Mr. Doctor, [00:05:48] thank you so much for joining us as well. Your thoughts on the same [00:05:51] question. I think that [00:05:55] the achievement the Indian prime minister was [00:05:58] enormous to bring together [00:06:01] divergent positions, most [00:06:05] particularly with respect to the ongoing war in west [00:06:08] Asia, when you have Iran present with [00:06:12] a... Dubai presented and discussing [00:06:16] our situation peaceably, this was the proof [00:06:20] the value of such international conferences, most [00:06:23] importantly the bilateral discussions that take place in [00:06:27] the context of such gatherings. However, [00:06:31] the the final text [00:06:34] the declaration is rather mely mouth [00:06:38] with respect to these US sanctions and [00:06:42] US rampage through through global [00:06:46] economic conditions that we [00:06:50] see and which were denounced in a [00:06:53] a formal and weak way without the strength [00:06:57] the position of your president, that is to say [00:07:01] the United States was, well it was not named, but that is understandable, [00:07:05] the issue was not named, the issue must [00:07:08] be for the bricks nations to state. [00:07:13] clearly that they will resist and they will [00:07:16] not take the dictate the United States with [00:07:20] regard to their mutual relations of all kinds, that [00:07:24] is cultural relations, most importantly economic relations, [00:07:27] commerce. the president trump [00:07:31] has done his best to wreck the [00:07:35] organization, from his first days in office he [00:07:38] imposed um awful tariffs and sanctions. [00:07:42] on the five founding members for various reasons, [00:07:46] on Brazil because of its treatment of Bolsonaro, on South [00:07:50] Africa because of its alleged [00:07:53] mistreatment of white farmers on [00:07:56] India, China and Russia because they trade [00:08:00] with one another, when the United States as sanctioned [00:08:03] Russia, the the point was to wreck bricks [00:08:07] and he did a pretty good damage. India after [00:08:10] all, stopped buying. [00:08:42] parties, that was not done, and it is [00:08:45] unclear how um, how prime minister [00:08:49] Modi will behave in the face of US [00:08:53] secondary sanctions for any dealings that it has with [00:08:56] Iran. That was, that's not clear. Just to [00:08:59] denounce these sanctions and tariffs is not [00:09:03] enough. Moreover, the issue of [00:09:06] dedollarization. Um, it is not clear [00:09:09] that there is any real plan. in [00:09:13] bricks to uh to find an [00:09:16] alternative to the dollar, the there was talk several years [00:09:20] ago, two, three years ago, about a bricks currency, [00:09:24] it failed, it went nowhere, and [00:09:27] to in the face of such a failure, [00:09:30] it is not very helpful to speak about trade [00:09:34] national currencies, they work for some cases and [00:09:38] state to state and it don't work in others, they works very well. [00:09:42] and countries, two countries have bilateral trade of [00:09:46] roughly the same volume, that is to say, if there is not [00:09:50] a big deficit in on one side or the other [00:09:54] in their trade, then the national [00:09:57] currencies work perfectly, however very often that is not the [00:10:01] case, and there is very little you can do to to [00:10:05] change the situation, for example the the rus [00:10:09] russia chinese, sorry the russian. [00:10:13] with china, yes, is virtually balanced, national [00:10:17] currencies are perfectly acceptable and create no problems and they [00:10:20] remove the problem the dollar for third third. [00:10:26] country um currencies are [00:10:29] being used for for the exchange, however when you take [00:10:32] India, [00:10:33] you don't [00:10:34] have such a situation, it's wildly unbalanced, India [00:10:38] and China, wildly unbalanced, national currencies will [00:10:42] do nothing to improve trade between these [00:10:44] countries. interesting insights there, [00:10:48] mr. doctor, I will come back to that. Mr. Horstell, you [00:10:52] wanted to chime in? Yes, I [00:10:56] think it has turned out that very successfully Iran [00:11:00] has asked as [00:11:01] a fee for passing Honmes, that this will be paid out [00:11:05] in Renmi, and that was [00:11:08] successful, so in fact there can be [00:11:11] so to say supranational bigger [00:11:14] currency like the Chinese to [00:11:18] level discrepancies between national [00:11:21] currencies, and that is very correct, Mr. [00:11:25] doctor was said here, and I think bricks will [00:11:28] find mechanisms for that, and that was the call in bricks that [00:11:32] this is being handled, so in fact if the [00:11:36] closing document is not so strong, [00:11:39] that uh is of course necessary to keep in mind, [00:11:43] but we also keep in mind how close India is to [00:11:47] Israel, so in this case and also tries [00:11:50] to balance its relationship with the [00:11:53] US. and that means it was a great risk, [00:11:57] this this brisk summit in New Delhi, and [00:12:01] I think it has proven that bricks is strong enough to [00:12:05] balance all these national problems carried by [00:12:09] India into the group, so that means we could not [00:12:13] expect too much from this final declaration, [00:12:16] and be happy that some basic layers have been laid [00:12:20] down and Iran played a very strong role [00:12:24] into, putting down these basic layers and [00:12:27] they will in fact survive, they will grow stronger over [00:12:31] the years, we cannot expect everything from the first [00:12:34] summit a new situation, we have a globally [00:12:38] new situation, because the US have lost their leading power [00:12:42] militarily and currency [00:12:45] wise. Mr. Doctor, your [00:12:47] response. Well, I think we are [00:12:50] looking a situation that is several years away with respect [00:12:54] to dedollarization, the dollar indeed has [00:12:58] lost some of its luster, but by no [00:13:01] means has stopped being the most important [00:13:05] global currency for exchange, despite all the [00:13:09] wreckage that Mr. Trump has created, there is no replacement [00:13:13] for this moment for the dollar in many countries [00:13:16] exchange, [00:13:18] it is understandable to me that the language [00:13:22] used at bricks was very diplomatic, "there [00:13:25] was no, there was no wish to [00:13:28] cross Trump or across the United States and this is not [00:13:32] arbit, it's a matter of national interest, for [00:13:36] example, just turning to to [00:13:39] India, India has one of its biggest [00:13:43] export items, services, it [00:13:46] services, meaning [00:13:50] programming, software programming, they export 200 [00:13:53] billion dollar." year, which is vast amount [00:13:57] of services of this nature, of that half, [00:14:01] 100 billion a year is to is united [00:14:05] states, the by comparison, [00:14:08] the the much discussed indian [00:14:12] purchases of Russian discounted crude [00:14:16] oil is much below that level, I think it's a 55 [00:14:20] billion dollars, so if you look at pure [00:14:23] national interest, is understandable that [00:14:27] India is wary of antagonizing Trump and the [00:14:30] United States, nonetheless, there is a certain point when you have [00:14:34] to defend your existential interests [00:14:37] and avoiding US [00:14:41] dicktat as was practiced six months [00:14:44] ago and whereas before the the war [00:14:48] in February when India indeed followed the [00:14:51] dictate of Trump and did stop its purchases. world, [00:14:55] that can no longer go on, it that kind of [00:14:58] behavior, rex, makes a nonsense of [00:15:02] bricks. Mr. Doctor, I was staying with [00:15:06] you, this is something that Dr. Pesishion talked about [00:15:09] and you mentioned that in your first response, he called for [00:15:13] greater use of national currencies and independent payment [00:15:16] mechanisms and a [00:15:19] and way to weaken the sanctions [00:15:22] regime. What me? could realistically [00:15:26] do that, you see, [00:15:29] it is a long way coming, [00:15:33] I'm so sorry, but that question was for Mr. Doctor, I'm going to come back to you. [00:15:38] "sorry, please, well, I think we have to look at the worlds that really [00:15:41] is. The problem with the language of bricks, but I was listening to [00:15:44] closely, it's glosses over [00:15:47] details, which are extremely important, speaking [00:15:51] about this, I have in mind president's address in which he [00:15:55] spoke about the 40% of global GDP that is not [00:15:59] represented like by bricks and this is an achievement to [00:16:02] bricks, yes and no, it's not because each bricks [00:16:06] member has has..." has grown its economy [00:16:09] so much as to contribute to that of results, no, it is a [00:16:12] Chinese growth which explains the 40%, and that [00:16:16] to hide that fact is to have illusion about what [00:16:20] bricks has achieved and has not achieved. um, with respect [00:16:24] to mutual trade, I was impressed by [00:16:28] the size the Russians of equipment and technologies that they [00:16:32] hope to sell in in India, but to receive what [00:16:36] in return if... Russian sell sell civil [00:16:39] aircraft to India, they'll just be adding to their [00:16:42] pile of unusable rupees. This [00:16:46] has to be faced, there's nothing, there's nothing wrong with facing the facts. [00:16:50] I don't see how you can build a future if you don't admit [00:16:54] the facts of today, if certain countries have unbalanced trade, [00:16:58] it is not quickly um [00:17:02] address, [00:17:03] it is not a matter of today and tomorrow send a trade [00:17:06] mission. "and so you have to concentrate on what is [00:17:10] perspective, and you have to put to the side what [00:17:14] is not easy to resolve, such as these disparities [00:17:18] in trade between India and China, it cannot be fixed, not [00:17:21] in forseable future, so move to other things which can be [00:17:25] fixed, and here I see a certain lack of [00:17:29] transparency. Mr. Horstole, your [00:17:32] response to the same question, and also your response to Mr. [00:17:36] Doctor's remarks." Yeah, um, what Mr. [00:17:40] Doctor has said is very correct, and we need to [00:17:44] put vision against these problems. It is very clear [00:17:48] that many, [00:17:49] you know, um, gremiums that we have right [00:17:53] now, like the United Nations Security Council, [00:17:56] they are not reflecting the [00:17:59] political and economic reality in [00:18:03] the world right now, and that means that bricks like [00:18:07] others have to face the necessity to build up [00:18:11] their own structures, that means a global bank [00:18:15] for bricks members and friends so to say to [00:18:18] exchange their currencies, that is very necessary. [00:18:22] right now you [00:18:23] know from bretton woods we had the dollar as the leading [00:18:27] global currency, that is of course forbidden in the future if [00:18:31] we want to have a free and server world with true [00:18:35] multilateralism uh and that means in [00:18:38] fact that you know the countries have to come together like [00:18:42] they did very well in in bricks in these hours [00:18:46] and find out on what [00:18:49] you know supernational mechanism they [00:18:53] want to found this global exchange bank [00:18:57] exactly address this question of [00:18:59] you know inequalities in mutual trade between [00:19:03] two nations. Mr. Doctor, let ask you this: [00:19:07] general questions uh, a general question on the [00:19:11] multilateral world, um, how far are [00:19:15] we from it, especially when it comes to to global [00:19:18] economy? let's not have illusions, again, you cannot [00:19:22] build the future based illusions. multilateral [00:19:26] world does not mean that 140 countries will have equal [00:19:29] weight, that is unrealistic, that's not how the world works, has never [00:19:33] worked that way and will not in the future. we have, i think of... [00:19:37] George Orwells Animal farm and all animals are equal, but some animals are [00:19:41] more equal than others. Let's be very frank about it. The [00:19:45] animals that are more equal than others in bricks are [00:19:48] Rick, Russia, India and China, [00:19:51] and the this the meeting in Delhi was very important [00:19:55] for reconsolidating the relationship [00:19:58] between those three powers, they [00:20:02] can together manage the disparities [00:20:06] and the... the frictions [00:20:09] between the members and member other [00:20:13] members of bricks and those who are partners of [00:20:17] bricks. there necessarily will be [00:20:20] disparities and conflicts. the fact that [00:20:23] united Arab Emirates and Iran are present [00:20:27] is one example the [00:20:31] the the differing interests of member [00:20:34] countries. however, um... "if you have strong [00:20:38] management that's united, then this can be handled [00:20:42] well, as I think, I think prime minister Modi did a [00:20:46] very good job in in precisely that way." [00:20:50] what had what bricks has suffered in the last several years was from [00:20:54] the frictions and the alienation and distress [00:20:58] between China and India that had its [00:21:01] basis in territorial disputes at their borders and [00:21:05] military clash [00:21:08] and it had as a consequence [00:21:11] Indias listening closely [00:21:13] to the cyren call the United States to join the Indo [00:21:17] Pacific ation of [00:21:20] countries to contain China, [00:21:24] fortunately Mr. Trump's [00:21:27] behavior and his destructive disruptive [00:21:31] behavior broke that illusion at India, and [00:21:34] India has readjusted, recalibrated its [00:21:38] relations with China, which we saw in the in the summit [00:21:42] in Delhi [00:21:44] today, it was very important that she [00:21:48] came ' and it is, I think [00:21:52] this is one the major achievements that the core countries of founded [00:21:55] wicks are back together again in a way that [00:21:59] can steer this, this group where there are many [00:22:03] different interests an effective [00:22:05] way. Mr. [00:22:09] Horstole, let me bring the um the attention of our [00:22:13] viewers to the matter that bricks called for, which was protection of [00:22:16] Palestinians and end to the unlawful occ'. and [00:22:20] humanitarian access to gaza, what concrete [00:22:24] measures can bricks take in this [00:22:27] regard? first of all, there's [00:22:30] it's necessary, maybe not right during this bricks [00:22:34] because of India's close relationship to Israel, but later [00:22:38] on for sure, and with Iran as an [00:22:42] emerging power with [00:22:45] you, Russia, China and [00:22:48] India, [00:22:49] it is very clear that Iran's weight in the bricks [00:22:53] group will grow and is growing [00:22:55] continuously, and that means that the [00:22:59] group of countries, not during the summit, that's a very [00:23:02] difficult question, and I think Britain [00:23:06] Modi did fantastic job to balance all [00:23:10] these different issues and keep India's national [00:23:13] interests clear, that is of course necessary, but after [00:23:17] that there will be a... closer cooperation, [00:23:21] i think with more countries to join in that [00:23:25] Israel cannot kill a whole country like [00:23:28] Palestine and the world watches, [00:23:31] we have a situation in which Iran has not fired [00:23:35] a single missile at Israel since April [00:23:39] 8, and that was unnecessary, the mou [00:23:42] allowed for sanctions and against the US, [00:23:46] Iran has very powerfully, played out the sanctions. [00:23:50] and the power they had or they have, Iran has, but [00:23:54] not against Israel. Israel is in fact the big winner the [00:23:57] mou, and Iran is struggling, Trump is [00:24:00] struggling, that is very interesting situation that cannot [00:24:04] continue, it is very clear that now the population in [00:24:08] Palestine, especially in Gaza comes to an end of what is [00:24:11] endurable, and and that's what we have, and let me say one [00:24:15] thing, the calling off of sanctions, my political party is [00:24:19] asked. for it people to people friendship with Iran since [00:24:23] inauguration for 13 years ago, and we want to [00:24:27] call of all sanctions against Iran [00:24:29] unconditionally, but why can I not enter [00:24:33] Iran and talk to people, why don't I get the visa, if I write to [00:24:37] the Iranian ambassador, I don't get answer, that doesn't [00:24:40] work [00:24:41] in the future, hopefully. Thank you so much, [00:24:45] Mr. Horstole for your remarks, that was Christoph horstole, author and [00:24:49] politician join us from... city of Berlin and Gilbert Doctor, [00:24:52] Independent International Affairs analyst joined us from the city of [00:24:56] Brussels. Thank you both [00:24:57] for your insights tonight. And that brings us to the end of this edition of our [00:25:01] spotlight program. Thank you for joining us and [00:25:03] bye-bye. [00:25:17] In today's show, we'll be revisiting the genocide in south. which [00:25:21] is continuing to see killings, displacement and the destruction of [00:25:24] homes unfolding every day, despite a supposed se [00:25:28] fire. well, the scale of destruction in [00:25:31] south Lebanon is almost [00:25:34] unimaginable for most of us, this [00:25:38] is an area that is 10, 20 [00:25:42] times the size of Gaza that is occupied by the Israelis [00:25:45] and they have been conducting uh [00:25:50] total uh ethnic cleansing campaign, you don't make an [00:25:54] agreement with the science entity and expect that they will keep to it, they [00:25:58] violates every cease fire, every treaty, every agreement, usually [00:26:02] before it's... even come into effect, and of course that was the [00:26:05] same uh in Lebanon, from June [00:26:07] onwards. [00:26:17] July 31st, 2026, nighttime straight of Hormus, [00:26:20] southern Iran, the United States launched a heavy wave of [00:26:24] strikes against command centers, radars, surveillance [00:26:28] systems and air defense positions across southern Iran, intended. [00:26:32] to make the skies over southern Iran safer for American aircraft, [00:26:36] but just hours later, something unexpected [00:26:39] happened. An American MQ9 [00:26:43] Reaper was shot down over the straight of Hormus. [00:26:46] The MQ9 is no ordinary drone. It is one of America's [00:26:50] primary platforms for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance [00:26:54] and precision strikes, capable of remaining airborne for more than a full [00:26:58] day while carrying an advanced suite of sensors and weapons, and this was [00:27:02] not the... first reaper lost. Since the beginning the war, Iran [00:27:06] has taken around 50 MQ9 Reapers out of operation, roughly [00:27:10] one quarter the entire US Reaper fleet, but the real story [00:27:14] was only beginning. Shortly afterward, an F-35 entered the [00:27:17] picture, one the world's most advanced combat aircraft, designed [00:27:21] specifically to penetrate sophisticated air defense networks, but [00:27:25] Stealth does not mean invisible. One radar may detect [00:27:29] only faint signature, infrared sensor may pick. up the heat from its [00:27:33] engines, another system may detect its electronic emissions, and [00:27:37] when the information from all these systems is connected through a single [00:27:40] network, much clearer picture the target begins to emerge. [00:27:44] That same night, the tracking the F-35 reached the level of a [00:27:48] weapons quality lock, a warning the pilot could not ignore. The [00:27:52] F-35 did not continue its mission and quickly left the [00:27:55] area, and perhaps that is the most important part the story: air [00:27:59] defense success does not always mean shooting an aircraft. down, [00:28:03] sometimes [00:28:04] it is enough to stop an aircraft designed to penetrate hostile [00:28:07] airspace from completing its mission, and now for the United [00:28:11] States, the issue is [00:28:12] no longer simply the loss of an MQ9 or the retreat [00:28:16] of an F35, the bigger question is, how could a network whose [00:28:20] radars and key components had been attacked only hours earlier [00:28:23] remain operational and still force one of America's most [00:28:27] advanced aircraft to abandon its mission, incident that [00:28:31] now forces the... It states to rethink not just a flight path, [00:28:35] but its entire calculation over Iran's [00:28:38] skies. The [00:28:41] equation in Iran's skies is no longer the [00:28:44] same.
