[00:00:00] I'm Chris Williamson [00:00:04] of of and this is Palestine Declassified where we focus on the international struggle to liberate Palestine and expose Israel's efforts [00:00:08] to manipulate the political class and corporate media. In today's show [00:00:12] we'll be [00:00:12] of revisiting the genocide in South [00:00:14] of Lebanon, which is continuing to see killings, displacement and the [00:00:18] destruction of homes unfolding every day, despite a [00:00:21] of supposed ceasefire. As our video report will explain, the [00:00:25] United States continues to exert pressure on the Lebanese government to disarm [00:00:29] hisballah. Meanwhile, the [00:00:31] of cionist entity strengthens its plans to permanently occupy South [00:00:34] of Lebanon under the guise of so-called security [00:00:40] of zone. The genocide in South Lebanon continues, [00:00:43] even [00:00:44] in though the world forgets. Since the 2nd of March this [00:00:47] year, more than 4,300 people have been killed, [00:00:51] and over 12,000 wounded, with more than one million people [00:00:55] displaced its peak, although some later return [00:00:58] amed. insecurity, villages near the border with the [00:01:02] zinus entity have been raised to the ground, with others even [00:01:06] further out suffering extensive damage and [00:01:09] of [00:01:09] of of destruction. [00:01:10] of despite a cessation of hostility supposedly taking effect [00:01:14] towards the end of June, the Zionists are still engaged in [00:01:18] of daily targeted strikes and killings. meanwhile, the United [00:01:22] States has continued its attempt to disarm the Lebanese [00:01:25] resistance and to exercise effective control over the [00:01:29] Lebanes. government on the 26th of June, Lebanon, the [00:01:33] US and the zionist regime signed a [00:01:35] a framework agreement in Washington which was rejected as being [00:01:39] nullen void and [00:01:41] of humiliation by [00:01:42] of Hizbillah secretary general Naim Khassim. He argued that [00:01:46] it conditions any Zinius withdrawal on the disarmament [00:01:50] of the resistance and that it allows an extended zyanis [00:01:53] presence in the country south. Designist defense [00:01:57] minister, [00:01:58] Israel Kats has stated that the Israel occupation forces will [00:02:02] remain [00:02:02] in a so-called security zone in south Lebanon, [00:02:05] of covering of of areas up to several kilometers inside the [00:02:08] border. Despite this, the Lebanese president, [00:02:12] Joseph Aun, maintains a slavish posture towards the [00:02:16] United States. In his July visit to the White House, he [00:02:19] declared that Lebanon is counting on the US as its [00:02:23] sponsor, but this has not prevented further strikes against [00:02:27] Lebanon. On the 15th of August, the Zion. hit a house in the [00:02:31] village of Ansar, killing [00:02:33] of seven people, including three children and two women, and [00:02:36] later struck Dayer [00:02:39] in Al-Zarani, of killing four more. Lebanese authorities recorded [00:02:43] this as one [00:02:43] of the highest single-day death tools since the June [00:02:46] Framework. The June [00:02:49] of Framework leaves Zionist forces occupying Lebanese territory while [00:02:53] demanding the dismantling [00:02:55] of the only force that has historically constrained the Zionist [00:02:58] colonization of Lebanon. but for Lebanon's puppet [00:03:02] of regime under president Joseph Owen, which is under the willing [00:03:05] tutage [00:03:06] of the Americans, their own status and pockets appear to [00:03:09] of matter more than the well-being of Lebanese citizens and the [00:03:13] integrity of Lebanon's borders. Or join me [00:03:17] today is the Beyout based award winning journalist and political commentator Leif [00:03:21] Meruth. Leif established free Palestine TV in [00:03:24] 2023, which continues to provide vital news coverage on the [00:03:28] ground in Lebanon and beyond. [00:03:31] of I'm [00:03:31] of also joined as usual by our residents expert in the UK's leading scholarly critic of [00:03:34] Israel, David Miller. David recently secured a far reaching legal [00:03:38] precedent, this made it illegal for employeers to take disciplinary action against [00:03:42] their employees for publicly opposing zionism. [00:03:45] in addition to his empirical research on zionism, David's also accoderator with [00:03:49] lobbying watch tog [00:03:51] of spinwatch and a senior research fellow at the center for islam and global affairs at Istanbul [00:03:55] Zayen university. welcome to the show. well [00:03:58] leave, for those of us 'who don't live this every day, can you [00:04:02] outline the the scale of destruction in south lebanon and [00:04:05] explain what it shows about the zish regime's tre intentions in the south [00:04:09] of the country? well, the scale of destruction in [00:04:13] south Lebanon is almost [00:04:16] unimaginable for most of us, this [00:04:20] is an area that is 10, 20 [00:04:23] times the size of Gaza that is occupied [00:04:26] a by of the Israelis and they have been'. [00:04:30] conducting total ethnic [00:04:33] cleansing campaign in these areas, blowing up [00:04:37] complete villages, destroying all historical sites [00:04:41] and even [00:04:43] uprooting the historic graveyards [00:04:47] of this region, so over for instance just [00:04:51] about 24 hours, three [00:04:54] villages behind the occupation line [00:04:57] were completely blown up [00:04:59] of and this is bringing the number of villages [00:05:03] that have been eraised off the map close to [00:05:07] 30 villages right now totally wiped out like that [00:05:11] since [00:05:12] the occupation the area [00:05:15] was conducted and the cease [00:05:18] fire came into effect, so i think [00:05:22] you know what the Israelis are doing is [00:05:26] genocide and ethnic cleansing a large [00:05:29] scale in south lebanon, changing the [00:05:33] even [00:05:33] the topography the land, blowing up all hills and [00:05:37] mountains from [00:05:39] existence, this the speaker [00:05:43] the house, the head [00:05:47] the amal party to make a statement [00:05:51] this morning saying that the scale [00:05:55] of ethnic cleansing [00:05:58] that is happening in south lebanon is larger than that in [00:06:02] Gaza. David, why is these the so-called jew [00:06:06] framework agreement fail to stop the daily zionist strikes in [00:06:09] lebanon? 'well, [00:06:12] mean, you you don't make an agreement with the cienist entity and expect [00:06:16] that they will keep to it, they violate every cease fire every treaty [00:06:20] every agreement, usually before it's even come into [00:06:24] effect, and of course that was the same in Lebanon from June [00:06:27] onwards, we've seen lots and lots of footage [00:06:31] the mass blowing up of [00:06:34] village those activities uh, but started off much more [00:06:38] slowly in late June, now of course they haven't had it all their away [00:06:41] the'. "they have had very quite heavy [00:06:45] casualties inflicted by hisballah [00:06:48] over the the succeeding weeks and also of [00:06:52] course they have tried their best to uh bring [00:06:56] in uh Giovanni their asset in Syria to [00:07:00] attack hisballah that seems to have [00:07:02] been [00:07:04] uh uh stopped by the uh Islamic Republic of Iraq Syrian [00:07:08] forces entering Lebanon uh Syrian forces entering [00:07:11] Lebanon. and that it would directly strike uh Syria if they [00:07:15] did that, so that's of course come off the agenda, but what we're seeing [00:07:19] is attempt to uh make it impossible [00:07:23] for the people of South Lebanon to return to their villages because they will be so [00:07:27] destroyed that there will be nothing left [00:07:29] to to rebuild and also they will they are clearing territory for [00:07:33] what they call security zone but also of course will be [00:07:37] uh put potential for new Jewish settlements which of [00:07:40] course there's already some evidence. that's happening, although it's [00:07:44] been quite difficult because the uh the lack of military success they've [00:07:47] had uh in their campaign to [00:07:50] raise Lebanese villages and [00:07:53] I don't if you recalled Chris, but I was in Lebanon now [00:07:57] last year and went to the south right to the border actually to [00:08:01] see some these villages, including one called Kafaakila, I was [00:08:05] the first two me and Dimitri Lascadas were the first western journalists to [00:08:09] get there and it was almost entirely destroyed and you could... the [00:08:13] the designers had only left three days before and it was almost entirely [00:08:16] destroyed and they'd carved a massive star of David in the in the middle of [00:08:20] football pitch which we saw from the hills above it, it was just [00:08:24] truly awful and of course they continued with that kind of activity [00:08:27] and indeed if anything escalated into um the mass uh [00:08:31] bombing campaigns the they've uh undertaken against particular villages [00:08:35] and apartment blocks we do [00:08:38] you mentioned their you can't trust the... [00:08:42] the zionist to stick to a treaty, it kind of reminds me what we now [00:08:46] know about other settle colonial projects like the [00:08:50] United States of of America [00:08:51] for example which made numerous treaties with the native Americans [00:08:55] and broke them systematically, [00:08:57] I mean this just seems to be feature doesn't it of of settle [00:09:00] colonialism, well it's the arrogance the settlers [00:09:04] isn't [00:09:04] it, I mean there's a particular um dimension to [00:09:08] settle colonialism which we should be conscious of, but maybe... [00:09:12] sometimes forget, which makes it different to the kind of resource [00:09:15] colonialism, which affected other parts [00:09:18] of what used to be called the developing world, so for example India [00:09:22] wasn't a settler colony, whereas Rudisia, which became Zambable was, South [00:09:26] Africa was, Algeria was, the North of Ireland of course, is remains [00:09:30] a settler colony, and what happens is [00:09:32] that the settlers, they start to [00:09:36] adopt their own interests, they start to have their own interests which are [00:09:40] separate from whoever is... their sponsor, whether that's an imperial [00:09:44] power or or [00:09:46] or or the the home country from which they have come, so that's [00:09:50] a dynamic which you saw in Algeria, you saw [00:09:54] in in Zimbabwe, you saw in South Africa, of course in [00:09:58] America, and the others Australia, New Zealand etc. because of course the [00:10:01] metropolis quite often takes a more [00:10:05] liberal imperialist view and not and not so much of [00:10:09] a genocidal, directly genocidal. so there's a kind [00:10:13] of tension there quite often between the different sorts of [00:10:16] imperialist view in terms of controlling the territory [00:10:20] and that's why in the end settle colonies cease to exist because [00:10:24] the... [00:10:25] the settleers become so extreme and so genocidal that either they [00:10:29] are kicked out or they they they complete [00:10:32] settle colonialism which is which means of course that they effectively [00:10:36] eliminate all the natives or sufficient number the natives that they [00:10:40] can't make any difference to politics such as the case for example in [00:10:44] Australia, Canada and the US, but so far in [00:10:48] in uh in Palestine they've not managed that and it looks like it's going [00:10:52] to be very difficult for them to manage that even though the... "they have inflicted [00:10:56] heavy blows of course on the palestinian resistance and indeed [00:11:00] on Hisballah and of course they took out the the government of Bashar [00:11:04] Alassad a key element the axis of resistance, but they cannot defeat [00:11:07] Iran, so they are a bit of bind the Netanyahu's most recent [00:11:11] statement talks about how they have effectively destroyed Iran's [00:11:15] military capability, his nuclear program, it's missile [00:11:19] program, and everybody knows that that's not true, so [00:11:22] that's the they find themselves..." "yes, [00:11:26] absolutely, and and you mentioned Algeria, David, and of course that's an [00:11:30] inspirational tale, isn't it, where the resistance did prevail, didn't they? but it hear a [00:11:34] lot the mainstream media uh, or mainstream commentators [00:11:38] actually referring to that, but I mean that that was a real - [00:11:41] inspirational and and successful resistance campaign, [00:11:45] wasn't it, that did win through in the end? yeah, I mean the set was have been [00:11:49] there for a long time, longer actually than uh the zines have been [00:11:52] there at least since 1948 obviously. were some designs before [00:11:56] 1948, but they were there for [00:11:58] over hundred years and they were kicked out and as result [00:12:01] Algeria is now predominantly Muslim country and is an independent [00:12:04] country is the the [00:12:06] it one biggest supporters Palestinians uh shore [00:12:10] of direct military support for the Palestinians uh that we have in the [00:12:13] world sure now le I mean the zionists haven't [00:12:17] exactly been having easy time in South Leven and have they I mean [00:12:21] despite temporarily capturing lots of land just tell us about some the [00:12:25] difficulties that the Israeli occupation forces have faced [00:12:28] there? yeah, the isionist occupation in south [00:12:32] Lebanon is not a walk in the park. it is [00:12:35] very, very difficult military operation, [00:12:39] hezballah from ambushing any [00:12:43] Israeli forces that attempt to [00:12:46] move forward in the occupation, so [00:12:50] where you know the [00:12:52] occupation um is not, comfortable, just [00:12:56] yesterday also Hezbollah released some [00:13:00] videos their operations against the Israeli occupation [00:13:04] forces before the cease fire came into effect [00:13:07] showing that they are able to conduct these operations [00:13:11] if the designest occupation forces very soon [00:13:14] momentarily i think it will going to be [00:13:17] triggered since the morning the [00:13:20] Israelis are bombarding villages far away from [00:13:24] the front. line uh as as part [00:13:27] their you know overall [00:13:30] policy of uh you punishing the [00:13:34] population in for any time they [00:13:37] lose battle on the ground with hizbullah they [00:13:41] you know do collective punishment against the civilians in south [00:13:45] lebanon so that's that's what's happening right now and i [00:13:49] think you know we if we look at all those videos over the [00:13:53] last uh four five months the [00:13:56] confrontation between hizbullah and the occupation [00:14:00] forces, it is clear that they have lost [00:14:04] a lot of men and lost a lot of equipment, some something like [00:14:08] 500 tanks were blown up by Hazbullah, [00:14:11] great to Israel then, well the difficulty that they [00:14:15] have uh is at root is demographic one, [00:14:19] they they aren't even able to demographically dominate [00:14:22] Palestine, because there are about the same number of non-jews as [00:14:26] there are Jews and if the the right of return was allowed there would [00:14:30] be uh the Jews would be a minority and and it would be a [00:14:34] Jewish state so the the difficulty is that [00:14:36] they haven't got enough people to occupy uh the new parts that they [00:14:40] occupy in Syria or the parts are trying to occupy in [00:14:44] Lebanon they haven't got enough people and and it doesn't matter how [00:14:48] how it's going to [00:14:49] take a long long time for that to be the case so as result they have to [00:14:52] find other ways to dominate and that of course means using assets and [00:14:56] proxies, so for for example Syria Gillaini is their asset and [00:15:00] their proxy, although of course uh there are some tensions in that relationship [00:15:04] where uh the the Syrian government were going to [00:15:07] allow uh turkish troops to deploy near aleppo [00:15:11] which which is a threat to Israeli national security interests according [00:15:15] to uh Benjamin Netanyahu and they they they have [00:15:19] you know uh they have made sure that this clean clear that they [00:15:22] will will bomb Syria again have. destroyed almost all their military [00:15:26] capability, same is true of course in Lebanon where they have to have [00:15:30] proxies in the the government of Lebanon who are quizlings and [00:15:34] effectively regime collaborating with the oc [00:15:38] their own country, despite the fact that lebanese law still [00:15:41] requires that they don't do that, so that that's that's a really significant [00:15:45] issue and of course we see the same in the region as well [00:15:49] with the abraham accords, the normalization processes [00:15:52] in the United Arab Emirates, key key to that, Morocco key to that, which of [00:15:56] course has an intelligence services which was set up by the mossad, so all [00:16:00] of that is is an indication that they can't, they can't send [00:16:03] jews out to settle everywhere because there aren't enough jews and there won't be enough. [00:16:08] and so so that's the problem, sure, it is [00:16:12] absolutely a problem, can seem to me to be a fundamental flow in [00:16:15] the in their overall plan, but [00:16:17] tell us about the the Lebanese president's humiliating deference to Donald Trump [00:16:21] and and what this means going forward [00:16:23] for for lemon as a potential US fassel state? yeah, [00:16:27] well president Josephne and prime [00:16:30] minister noaf salam have basically meant [00:16:34] over backwards to appease uh... the [00:16:38] imperialist and the Jewish supremacist in [00:16:42] their hopes of getting something in return it [00:16:45] seems like [00:16:46] that they never materialized [00:16:49] you know the cease fire [00:16:53] is seems like to be one way [00:16:56] the um the way [00:16:58] that um you know to show you the [00:17:02] level of humiliation for this government few days [00:17:06] ago the lebanese ambassador to the UN in [00:17:10] Geneva and the human rights council [00:17:13] just spoke lightly about the crimes being [00:17:17] committed by Israel in South Lebanon and that [00:17:21] triggered the Israeli government to [00:17:25] call Trump and then Trump's [00:17:28] cabinet calling the president of Lebanon [00:17:32] demanding that the this [00:17:36] ambassador be removed from his post and they were [00:17:39] referring to one the articles in the memorandum [00:17:43] the standing between the own [00:17:46] regime and the israelis which state that libanon cannot [00:17:50] anymore you [00:17:53] know um bring Israel [00:17:57] and or complain about Israel's [00:18:00] actions in libanon either in [00:18:04] courts or diplomatic venues which means that "It's not only [00:18:08] that the Lebanese government's not going to be able to [00:18:11] sue uh for damages or for war crimes, but it can't [00:18:14] even speak about them a public way, and that is the [00:18:18] level of humiliation of this government and [00:18:22] what it accepted, the good thing [00:18:26] for Lebanon out of all of this is that [00:18:30] this government, Joseph on and Noaf salam have no [00:18:34] power really in the country, neither ' [00:18:37] military and or the security forces are under [00:18:41] their control and they cannot [00:18:44] deliver on the demands the [00:18:47] Israelis and the Americans, they can yap, they [00:18:51] can [00:18:52] uh humiliate themselves more and more publicly, but that's all they can [00:18:55] achieve. Well, David, I [00:18:57] mean in the end, this strategy of of appeasement, isn't [00:19:00] going to go well for the Lebanese president, or indeed [00:19:04] is his prime minister, Analum, is it? or for that [00:19:08] matter the rest the collaborators in the Lebanese [00:19:10] government? no, look, I mean, the the the position of [00:19:14] Heizballah, which of course has representatives in the government uh, as always [00:19:18] been that they wouldn't um uh coup or [00:19:22] to try and take over Lebanon, although they would surely be [00:19:25] justified in trying to do so, but that position might [00:19:29] change in the future, but of course what the zianists want is the for [00:19:33] is for the to be a civil war, so they want to try [00:19:37] and... engineer suni gerillas coming in [00:19:40] from Syria to [00:19:42] attack and they also want to engineer of course [00:19:46] the Christian Felangis, the fascist militions [00:19:50] are [00:19:50] in the north more northerly part of Lebanon to engage in that conflict as well, of course [00:19:54] they were used famously in the shabara massacers back in the [00:19:58] day overseen by the zionists under the watchful eye the [00:20:02] zianis so the strategy is a strategy often to try [00:20:06] and a civil war which would have the [00:20:09] effect of as they would say in Gaza, [00:20:13] of mowing the grass, [00:20:13] of diverting from defending [00:20:17] against scionist occupation and [00:20:19] invasion to defending themselves [00:20:22] against fellow lebanese, which of course would [00:20:26] likely be heavy tool for [00:20:30] personnel, so that that's the kind of strategy [00:20:32] that they're using, because they can't sett everywhere, they try and find ways to [00:20:36] destroy all their. and set their enemies against each other [00:20:40] and another aspect of this state [00:20:42] it is the fact that yeah the more [00:20:44] - though war and and and and [00:20:48] difficulties are sort [00:20:49] of uh problems you've just been outlining there plays into the hands [00:20:53] doesn't it the military industrial complex, mean they make lots of [00:20:57] money down the out of of selling weapons and we know that britain is implicated in the [00:21:01] ongoing genocide because they're continuing to supply Israel with [00:21:05] with weapons so so there's money to be made isn't there out of this as [00:21:08] well there is money to be made and of course some arms [00:21:12] firms supply all sides in the conflict just like the zionists you [00:21:15] know supply all sides in in politics in the UK and [00:21:18] elsewhere? but sometimes those those arms [00:21:21] firms are much more ideological, so the the [00:21:24] Israeli arms firms for example, elbert for example, it's [00:21:28] really aircraft industry, [00:21:31] that they are quite ideological and are used to [00:21:34] pursue unis foreign [00:21:37] policy ambitions, so that of course means that they they [00:21:41] they won't sell arms to some some participants in [00:21:44] conflict, but they will sell arms to those governments which they think they can use [00:21:48] or have an advantage with. "now indeed, it's [00:21:52] it's it's a tragic state of affairs and shows the [00:21:55] amorality the or immorality, probably more appropriate description [00:21:59] the the arms dealers really, but I'm afraid [00:22:03] that's all we've got time for today, so I'd like to fancy, I guess leif Maroof and of [00:22:07] course our residents expert David Miller.
