[00:00:05] There of has [00:00:08] of of been over this weekend major exchange of missile fire by Iran in the US, targeting [00:00:11] oil tankers and even a U.S. [00:00:15] destroyer. Uh, the new [00:00:18] secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security [00:00:21] Council [00:00:22] in Mohsen Rizai said [00:00:23] in a very recent interview that Iran didn't use [00:00:27] ballistic missile [00:00:28] a for that attack on the... destroyer, but new [00:00:32] weapon, but let's [00:00:34] go to Iran's escalation ladder, which we've talked about [00:00:37] before, this is a country that takes its time to send [00:00:40] messages and only does so when necessary, and to [00:00:44] serve a strategic objective, unlike the [00:00:47] Americans. What is Iran's intent in [00:00:51] this new round? you know, one seems obvious to me, which [00:00:55] is to punch a hole in Trump's claims, that tankers worth [00:00:59] nine. million dollars are getting through hormos [00:01:03] of daily, and two, it seems to me that [00:01:07] Iran is now [00:01:08] of looking to force an end to the US naval [00:01:11] a blockade. Okay, let's [00:01:15] start from the beginning, a bit of background is necessary to get to [00:01:18] your point, the background is that all [00:01:22] along, what the Iranians were doing is [00:01:26] since the war started on February 28, the... [00:01:30] primacy was given to the diplomacy, that was the key [00:01:33] thing, and as far as the military was concerned, it [00:01:37] was responding it for that to whatever the Americans were [00:01:41] doing in the [00:01:42] of region, in so it was a proportionate response from the Iranian [00:01:46] military (IRGC). now when we look at [00:01:49] diplomacy, what they were trying to accomplish is [00:01:53] create [00:01:55] of a regional framework, what that means is when [00:01:59] we say a regional security framework, it [00:02:02] means [00:02:03] of that all the issues concerning the region should be [00:02:07] of resolved by the countries [00:02:08] a of the region itself without any interference from [00:02:12] outside pass. that's [00:02:14] a regional framework and this is something entirely new. [00:02:18] just to put it [00:02:18] in a context, this is the thinking [00:02:24] of of the new world order which has the support of two great powers, russia in China in the [00:02:27] multipolar world. so... What we saw [00:02:30] was that [00:02:32] in Iran's foreign minister Abbas Arakshi in the month of [00:02:36] May and June, he traveled to Russia, he [00:02:40] met up with President Putin for an hour and a half in St. [00:02:43] Petersburg, after that early June he [00:02:47] traveled [00:02:47] of to China, met up with his counterpart [00:02:51] Wonghi, got the support for this framework from [00:02:55] both the countries, and after that when he came back, the [00:02:59] Iranian... leadership would have discussed this that look, we've got the [00:03:02] support, and after that on the 30, 23rd of [00:03:06] June, Iranian president, [00:03:10] he did a state visit to Pakistan to get Pakistan on [00:03:13] board, the Pakistan leadership, because [00:03:17] of Pakistan is playing very important role in this re [00:03:21] framework, the idea of which is about is coming [00:03:24] of from Iran, but this is one [00:03:27] of the key fundamentals [00:03:29] of the new world of. as I pointed out, as a [00:03:32] consequence of that, what has happened is that on the [00:03:36] 31st of August two big events happened [00:03:40] of simultaneously on the same [00:03:42] of day, on 31st of August in Islamabad, in [00:03:46] sorry in Istanbul in Turkey, there was a [00:03:50] of announcement that there will be a formalized [00:03:54] arrangement was made to be called Macca joint [00:03:57] defense agreement where there are: three [00:04:00] countries which is Pakistan, Turkey and [00:04:04] Saudi Arabia, the concept is of collective [00:04:07] security, which is what this new world order [00:04:10] fundamental thinking is [00:04:12] of about, so on the same day, 31st of August, [00:04:16] the SEO summit also [00:04:18] of happened in Kirgistan [00:04:21] and in Kirgistan when you look at the joint statement, [00:04:24] there was total support given to Iran, [00:04:28] support not only to Iran its [00:04:30] of territorial integrity and sovereinity to [00:04:34] the fact that there was aggression on Iran by America [00:04:38] and Israel [00:04:39] of and that Iran should have or can [00:04:43] in have peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the [00:04:46] NPT, so there was total support for Iran [00:04:50] and the Iran thinking of [00:04:52] a regional framework. now once this was done on the [00:04:55] 31st of August, this is when [00:04:58] of the Iranian leadership decided, now we need to give [00:05:02] primacy to the military power, [00:05:06] and that is when the lead was [00:05:09] taken by the secretary [00:05:11] of the supreme. national security council major general Marsin [00:05:15] Rizai. now he is a extremely important [00:05:19] man, so after that there were tanker to tanker [00:05:23] hits. now you see a tanker does not have any defensive [00:05:26] means, but the key thing was what [00:05:30] resided, he fired something [00:05:33] unusual that the Iranians had not done before, [00:05:37] and first thing to note is that the firing was not done [00:05:41] by the IRG. navy, it was done by the [00:05:45] IRGC aerospace force and what [00:05:49] was fired was a anti ship ballistic [00:05:52] missile with a suppressed [00:05:56] trajectory or depressed trajectory and this missile [00:06:00] is being called Kasim Baseir. now [00:06:04] this was basically fired as demonstration to [00:06:07] tell the Americans that look all your fleet [00:06:11] which is part of the naval blockade that you have put [00:06:15] there, naval blockade is an act of [00:06:18] war, until now the Iranians were quiet about [00:06:22] it, so this was clear indication about [00:06:26] the vulnerability that the US military faces and sentcom [00:06:29] acknowledged that yes this missile ballistic [00:06:33] missile was fired, but our aircraft carrier [00:06:37] obviously it was George Washington, now what happens is [00:06:41] that whenever there is a... craft carrier then there are lot [00:06:44] of guided missile destroyers which [00:06:48] provided basically the security which provide the defense [00:06:52] and what these guided missile destroyers [00:06:55] have what is called the ag [00:06:59] system now in this edges combat [00:07:02] system the interceptors are there and the [00:07:06] interceptors on the American destroyers are of ratio [00:07:10] company there are three types the SM2 which is [00:07:14] standard missile 2, standard missile 3 and standard missile [00:07:18] 6, the long and short the story is that the [00:07:21] missile that was fired, anti ship ballistic missile [00:07:25] with depressed trajectory, it basically means [00:07:29] that it it did not leave the atmosphere, it [00:07:32] stayed within the stratosphere on the higher reaches [00:07:36] the atmosphere, so we are looking at altitude of [00:07:40] about 60 to 80 or 90 kilometers, it [00:07:44] stayed there and it had a speed [00:07:47] of close to 10 mac and mac is the speed of [00:07:51] sound and it it fired at by [00:07:55] the IRGC aerospace force, it was fired a [00:07:59] distance of around 1000 kilometers and with [00:08:03] a warhead which has a weight of close to [00:08:07] 1.3 ton. now this [00:08:10] SM6, this is sup to take a ballistic [00:08:14] missile, hostile ballistic missile within [00:08:18] the atmosphere when it is in the descent phase, [00:08:21] it is coming down, because ballistic missile [00:08:24] for follows a parabolic path, it is very clearly defined [00:08:28] path, but the problem here is that this missile [00:08:32] is coming at such a speed and the SM6 [00:08:35] interceptors the Americans, they have only been [00:08:39] tested in a controlled environment, not in a [00:08:43] operational environment and when you have [00:08:46] this missile coming at such a speed, it does not [00:08:50] give any reaction time to the SM6 and the [00:08:54] radar the ages system which is very good [00:08:57] radar to basically identify the [00:09:00] that yes there is hostile missile coming and to kill that [00:09:04] missile so the point making is as far as the [00:09:08] Americans are concerned they are totally defenseless against this [00:09:12] missile and the Americans know it, and what this missile can [00:09:16] do is because of its 1.3 or [00:09:19] 1.2 ton warhead, it has explosive [00:09:23] power and it has kinetic energy, so if it [00:09:27] hits a ship, it can actually go through the deck the [00:09:31] ship, that is what it can do, so the point [00:09:35] here is mosin razi has made it clear [00:09:39] that this is the capability we have and what? is being told [00:09:43] to the Americans is on the one hand [00:09:46] that look you lift your [00:09:50] welcome back to Press TV's rolling coverage after the [00:09:54] detention of Press TV's correspondents Nagmet and the [00:09:57] occupied West Bank near the city of Bethlehem. Today we [00:10:01] had breaking news on that as she was [00:10:05] apprehended by the IOF after weeks of violence by Dady [00:10:09] Settlers um on her and her. family members [00:10:13] in the occupied west bank, now to discuss the matter further, let me [00:10:16] bring in Press TV's correspondent in Beirut, [00:10:20] Mariam, thank you so much for your time tonight as you're [00:10:24] joining us, what was your first reaction when you heard about [00:10:27] the detention of our correspondent in the west [00:10:30] bank? [00:10:37] it seems that we have connection issues um and [00:10:41] mariam cannot hear our voice, again let me give you a [00:10:45] quick rundown on what has been happening in the past several [00:10:48] hours after the detention of press tv's [00:10:51] correspondent what happened? [00:10:55] was after we had the reports [00:10:58] that press tv's correspondents near the city of [00:11:01] Bethlehem um we this is something [00:11:05] totally normal and deoccupied west bank according to the different analys that we have [00:11:09] been bringing in, what is happening is settler [00:11:13] violence is ramping up especially after the Israel [00:11:17] genocide in Gaza now what have been witnessed is [00:11:21] also according to Israeli rights group more than uh [00:11:25] 60 journalists have been apprehended and detained by the [00:11:28] Israelite occupation forces after they have been [00:11:32] um under a phase of violence by the israely settlers. [00:11:36] now it seems that if we have Press TV's correspondent in Beirut, Mariam [00:11:40] Soda [00:11:40] with us, Mariam, thank you so much for your time tonight. what was your initial [00:11:44] reaction when you heard about the detention of Press TV's [00:11:47] correspondent in the occupied West [00:11:49] Bank? well it was of course [00:11:53] shock, it was not shock. because we know that the Israelies [00:11:57] are capable of anything, we have witnessed of course the [00:12:00] cortion and the direct attacks and killing of journalists in [00:12:04] lebanon as well, but of course we've been following up the situation in the west bank, I've [00:12:08] seen the the brave and courageous reporting [00:12:12] of nakamed throughout the past months and and all the time of [00:12:16] course she's been reporting especially in the heightened violence [00:12:20] the Israeli settlers, the terrorist settlers, [00:12:23] and we've seen how despite... the fact that she knows she could [00:12:27] of course have her life threatened a daily basis, based on her [00:12:31] reporting, still we see her go to the frontlines, follow up and [00:12:35] report on the continuous Israeli terrorist attacks [00:12:39] and aggressions in that area and of course uh showing very clearly that the [00:12:43] attacks are not only just the settlers, [00:12:45] it is settler violence that is protected and [00:12:49] also uh coordinated perhaps by the Israeli [00:12:52] occupation forces now of course, [00:12:56] um, [00:12:57] it is any way because we are human at the end, and I [00:13:01] know that she is not just a fellow woman, she is [00:13:05] also, I believe mother, and she is someone um who [00:13:09] of course is living among her family, she [00:13:12] is missed by her family of course, and so that [00:13:16] is something that saddens me actually, because uh, I know that she is not [00:13:20] someone who was carrying arms, she was not carrying a weapon of any [00:13:24] kind, she was not... carrying even knife, and so what, but she what she [00:13:28] was carrying was her microphone, the camera of [00:13:31] course that was used by the camera man, and that is her crime, and I think that [00:13:35] that is what the Israelis are actually targeting, and despite [00:13:39] all the reports saying that the Israelis have heightened [00:13:42] their direct aggression against journalists [00:13:46] after October the 7th and for the Alxaflot [00:13:49] operation, it is not the flood operation of course [00:13:53] in the continuous Israels. genocide in Gazza, it is not what [00:13:57] really began that crackdown, the crackdown on journalists began [00:14:01] way before that uh, and we can recall of course in the [00:14:05] heart the West Bank, which is under of course a specific [00:14:08] agreement, security agreement between the [00:14:11] political um authority the [00:14:15] Palestinians and the Israeli occupation forces, despite the [00:14:19] fact that the Palestinian territory in the West Bank is under [00:14:22] occupation, still the uh Palestinian. authority chose to go for [00:14:26] security coordination agreement and despite that and [00:14:29] despite the fact that even um you have media outlets like for [00:14:33] example like jazera they work things through that system through the system [00:14:37] the occupation uh they have their credentials if we may [00:14:41] say and despite that they had their own journalists [00:14:44] shot um directly uh [00:14:48] in asked you was reporting in the in the area uh in [00:14:52] the west bank and we can recall of course Sharin Abu in [00:14:56] that respect, and that was in 2022, that was not [00:15:00] after the al flood operation, that was before that, and we can see that these [00:15:04] crackdown the Israelis on journalism, this is just one example of [00:15:08] many, this is addition to the fact that the prisons are [00:15:11] filled with palestinian journalists and foreign journalists [00:15:15] for that matter, and of course we know that the Israelis had stopped even [00:15:19] giving visas and accepting the [00:15:23] reporting the uh the events in in the not only in [00:15:27] the west bank but also alcots, we can remember of course the [00:15:30] protest, the the the unarmed protesters who were [00:15:34] surrounding the L-A mask in alcuts of... of course [00:15:38] protesting for because the the desacration the [00:15:42] el mosk and of course the continued judaization the [00:15:46] Allosk and that area and the the alkuts area which is [00:15:49] by based on international if we may say agreements is [00:15:53] supposed to be for the Palestinians continues to be under occupation the Israelis of [00:15:57] course are also making the people live a direct [00:16:01] security state if we may say continuous checkpoints [00:16:05] continuous um um inspections [00:16:09] whether in their houses, the the cameras go into their [00:16:12] bedrooms, as we know in the old uh [00:16:15] city of quts and so that is issue that was there, it was in [00:16:19] place and it was bound to reach and lead into an [00:16:22] explosion because the uh the prisons were filled with [00:16:26] prisoners, this is what led to of course anger among the Palestinians and [00:16:30] the Palestinian resistance of course had no choice uh but to [00:16:34] continue with its operations with its resistance in order to to... get the [00:16:38] freedom of many palestinians and even after the uh the [00:16:42] so-called cease fire in Ghazza, there was a release of many the [00:16:45] prisoners, some of whom were prisoner were [00:16:48] journalists, we had once again more arrests, [00:16:52] and we see now that with Naqa, and it's what is what [00:16:56] is sad here in this respect is that I think it's very [00:16:59] difficult for people to really know her situation, [00:17:03] and based on reports that we have on how women are abducted. [00:17:07] and how women how she's going to be actually [00:17:10] treated, there's so much maltreatment [00:17:14] especially for women, there's no special treatment any [00:17:17] way um for any the for her [00:17:21] the any health situation or or needs and [00:17:25] in that case, and I hope that we her family can know [00:17:29] anything about about her about her presence, but we know that [00:17:33] based on various previous examples, many women... [00:17:38] have had to deal uh with the imprisonment the Israelis for [00:17:42] months on end and so that in itself uh is [00:17:45] considered crisis, this is humanitarian crisis, [00:17:49] this is a an outrage, and this is [00:17:53] something that people need to cry out about and shout about, and [00:17:56] despite the killing of hundreds of journalists in gazza, despite the killing of [00:18:00] journalists in the west bank, one of whom were I [00:18:03] said was actually an American citizen [00:18:06] and you have... of course many other examples of even a [00:18:10] foreign journalists who are directly shot, directly attacked by [00:18:14] the Israelis, we hear some statements from the [00:18:17] international community, but we do not see any action being [00:18:20] taken to actually protect those journalists, and these are journalists that [00:18:24] are clearly like we saw wearing their press vests, [00:18:28] their helmets, clearly just doing their job [00:18:31] of journalists and even when the Israelis of course we know based on [00:18:35] some the reports [00:18:36] that the Israelis are saying that they have given themselves the right to [00:18:40] arrest any journalist based on what they call security [00:18:43] threats. um, but of course it is very difficult to see what security [00:18:47] threats there is especially since [00:18:50] naqat hammed herself is only reporting on the [00:18:53] humanitarian side of things and so this is what we have been seeing seeing [00:18:57] especially since the this huge [00:19:01] this huge terrorism that we've seen from the Israeli [00:19:04] settlers, the focus has been on those aggressive [00:19:08] actions and of course on the humanitarian situation in the west [00:19:11] bank. well, thank you so much for that in-depth analysis of his [00:19:15] press tv's mariam soda reporting from the lebanese capital [00:19:18] Beirot. now also joining us is a press [00:19:22] tv's tehron correspondents moin amin. moin, thank you so [00:19:26] much for joining us at this hour. the question that i had is [00:19:30] what was your initial reaction when you heard about detention [00:19:34] by the israelity um occupation forces. [00:19:37] and the occupied West Bank. It's good to be with you [00:19:41] Krash. It wasn't very shocking to me to be honest with [00:19:45] you, given the nature of this [00:19:49] designist regime and the manner in which it [00:19:52] approaches uh several issues, including [00:19:55] journalism. Everybody has a right [00:19:58] to speak their mind, and that's basically the main [00:20:02] philosophy behind journalism, different voices have the right to [00:20:06] narrate stories. in their way and it's the public opinion that decides [00:20:10] um what to take as the truth, but when it comes to [00:20:13] the to design regime, that's not the case, the [00:20:17] silencing silencing a person like naga [00:20:20] is the same as let me [00:20:23] say terrorizing people in Palestine, in Iran in [00:20:27] Lebanon, it's the same kind of terrorist mentality [00:20:31] that we are witnessing here, Naga is mother of three [00:20:34] children and she's been uh doing an amazing [00:20:38] job, but for the past one month she had been [00:20:42] targeted by social media accounts affiliated with designist [00:20:45] regime, publishing similar [00:20:49] content with identity. language trying to pressurize her, [00:20:52] saying that she should not be able to basically report from [00:20:56] areas that are strictly under the control of designist regime, [00:20:59] so that's [00:21:02] it's if you ask me what my reaction is, karash, i'm not [00:21:06] surprised, my friend, this is what we have been witnessing in meet [00:21:10] august, i believe she was also attacked [00:21:14] by designist forces when she was reporting [00:21:17] from refugee camp that was... raided by the [00:21:21] Israeli forces, so um, yes, [00:21:24] that's that's what I think, absolutely, [00:21:28] moin, you were in uh, the [00:21:31] places that many war crimes happened, you [00:21:34] had um, under job experience actually [00:21:38] of what was happening, when you visited the island of [00:21:42] Sirick, when you visited the city of Lamert, and [00:21:45] also the school in Minab, which [00:21:48] was the um... the place that american um the on [00:21:52] the first day the war on February 28th, the American side killed [00:21:56] nearly 170 people, most of whom were [00:22:00] children. um, so this is not a surprise, as you [00:22:03] correctly mentioned when it comes to the US andersrudy regime, their [00:22:07] aggressions and their war crimes, [00:22:10] and right now we are having illegal detentions of journalists without [00:22:14] any given reason, so this is a [00:22:17] broader pattern that we are looking at. "this is not an isolated [00:22:21] incident way, that's right, um, you see the [00:22:25] global public opinion is um, every [00:22:29] day, it's becoming getting closer to the reality of [00:22:33] things, the circumstances surrounding the [00:22:36] world, and what happened in Minab, what happened [00:22:39] in the island of sirik, the attack on the wedding where people were [00:22:43] celebrating a wedding, the massacre of children in minab, the [00:22:47] massacre of women and children in. lamert and what's [00:22:51] been happening in Gazza and the Palestinian, the [00:22:55] occupied Palestinian territories for the past few [00:22:58] years, these are all sign [00:23:02] that this, it's now our [00:23:05] mandate to be honest with you, as as journalists and not just us as [00:23:09] journalists, but every freedom loving soul around [00:23:13] the world to speak for napa right now, this is [00:23:17] not about simply... journalist being [00:23:21] kidnapped and being an unknown location right now, this is [00:23:24] about this is the this is where the [00:23:28] humanity is being, this is where humanity is being put to a big [00:23:32] test, and mean we have been witnessing as you mentioned [00:23:36] what happened in minab, massacre the massacre of 168 people, most [00:23:39] of whom were children, and then the attack on the [00:23:43] wedding in siric that i had the chance to visit, i visited the house, the [00:23:47] house was targeted by a pris [00:23:51] weapon, weapon that was guided directly at the [00:23:54] wedding and also this [00:23:58] mentality of trying to test new weapons [00:24:01] on innocent children, these are all they all [00:24:05] stem from the terrorist nature the us and designist regime, to be honest with [00:24:09] you, you ask my opinion, why would you [00:24:12] silence the voice of a journalist, if if you're [00:24:16] really sure about the nature of your deeds and actions, [00:24:20] so it's very clear that the whole global [00:24:24] media, the control that the [00:24:27] western countries, particularly the US have [00:24:31] over media has [00:24:35] so far perhaps managed to control [00:24:38] certain public opinion, but now the world is [00:24:42] getting closer closer to to point where the truth is being revealed and [00:24:46] illuminated and the freedom loving the way they... [00:24:50] try to silence the truth, so as I [00:24:54] told you karaj, this is not, this is no longer about, this is [00:24:58] about humanity, this is [00:25:01] where all of us have to basically rise and [00:25:05] speak for, thank you so much for [00:25:09] your um thoughts that me here in [00:25:13] our Tehran studios, me here in our Techron studios [00:25:16] and that brings us also to the end of this edition over.
