[00:00:00] dependence for temporary peace, bows, arrows and horses [00:00:04] have given way to launchers, missiles, [00:00:07] of tanks, drones and fighter [00:00:11] jets, but the blood of arash still runs [00:00:14] through Iranian veins, and now let us return, and [00:00:18] now let us return to the same question, where did arash's arrow [00:00:22] land? the arrow of all the way to the banks [00:00:25] of the oxsus river, arash lost his [00:00:28] life, but he did not allow the enemy to decide [00:00:31] Iran's fate, and that legacy [00:00:35] passed from one generation to the next. An [00:00:39] Iranian may give his life [00:00:40] for his homeland and independence, but he will never surrender their fate to [00:00:44] foreign [00:00:48] of power. [00:01:01] Journey with [00:01:02] Marjon, an [00:01:05] Iranian immigrant as she tackles the complexities of cultural [00:01:09] identity and finds her place between the two [00:01:12] worlds. [00:01:16] What does it mean to be [00:01:18] long? [00:01:24] of [00:01:30] of [00:01:31] of [00:01:44] of [00:02:04] of [00:02:11] The US treasury secretary Scott Beson has leveled and extreme [00:02:15] economic sanctions package against Iran touding new methods to [00:02:19] bring Iran to its knees in essence advocating regime change. [00:02:23] This is road the US has traveled down before and the Iranian side has [00:02:27] not only marked a tried and tested. fail policy, but [00:02:31] as said the US will fill the burn more instead of [00:02:35] Iran. [00:02:39] of [00:02:53] of [00:03:05] of [00:03:09] of [00:03:19] the [00:03:20] of US treasury secretary's uh operation economic outcast against [00:03:23] Iran is said to use his words, the most severe sanctions [00:03:27] leveled against another country in the entire US history, but [00:03:31] looking closely, there [00:03:32] are repeated scenarios exercised against Iran, which has put into [00:03:36] question the efficiency of this [00:03:39] a sanctions of [00:03:39] package. [00:03:45] of Coming up in today's episode of economic divide, operation economic [00:03:49] outcast, treasury secretary Scott Beson put a show making [00:03:53] a sanctions package announcements against Iran. Did he [00:03:56] not take into account previous US sanctions against Iran including [00:04:00] ones from his current boss, which ultimately didn't work. our [00:04:04] second headline, dday, all [00:04:06] of show no substance, will pun who aids evon is what beson [00:04:10] who aids evon is what besson said, issuing [00:04:13] of threats that are supposed to choke ir one economy and focused on cutting [00:04:17] off Iran's allies, yet there is no substance since [00:04:20] Iran has worked its way around us, [00:04:23] of and our third headline, is that all you got? meanwhile, Iran has [00:04:27] continued including Industry. including in the [00:04:31] straight of removes [00:04:32] in the hands [00:04:32] of the unsoda love fighter, in the hands [00:04:34] of the unsoted love fighters, the US is experiencing [00:04:37] blowback of its illegal actions. We're going to be discussing [00:04:41] those points and a whole lot more with our guests, Matt [00:04:44] Wainglass, political analyst and Adnon A Hussein, Professor [00:04:48] of History at [00:04:49] of Queens [00:04:50] University. [00:05:04] in [00:05:06] of [00:05:29] Thank you for having me on the [00:05:30] show. [00:05:49] Operation economic outcast is in fact sanctioning [00:05:53] 60 plus entities all over the world, anybody who's [00:05:56] tied to Iran's oil or nuclear missile [00:05:59] programs uh right now, and the reason that lot of people are [00:06:03] calling this kind of a show is because uh the US [00:06:07] has not uh been showing any sort of [00:06:10] toughness against - players like China and like when you [00:06:14] notice that China banks and companies um have been purchasing [00:06:18] more than 80% of Iran's oil experts that would be the first phone call you [00:06:22] think that Trump would be making right now but he's not so lot of and that's just [00:06:26] one example this is for show because Besson himself [00:06:30] says the point of putting this out there is to [00:06:34] cause Iran to be making a deal because they see uh uh [00:06:38] the severity of what this looks like are we willing to follow through [00:06:42] with this? on some the phone calls have been made. Today we are launching [00:06:45] operation Economic Outcast to foreclose [00:06:49] every other option available to the Iranian regime. [00:06:53] Treasury has mapped every node, every [00:06:56] facilitator and every network that Iran has used to smuggle [00:07:00] oil and evade sanctions. Beginning [00:07:03] today, the actions of treasury and other agencies will [00:07:07] tighten the news and block every potential source of [00:07:11] revenue that funds the IRGC and the evil [00:07:15] Iranian regime. We are enforcing a zero leakage [00:07:19] approach, there will be no minimal breathing space for the regime [00:07:22] to rebuild its capacity to inflict terror against [00:07:26] America and the world. The final refuge [00:07:30] of this regime is the mistaken conclusion of nations [00:07:34] that still finance the Iranian threat in the hopes of evading [00:07:38] it. It is no longer acceptable to operate [00:07:42] in the... spaces of this conflict, countries cannot [00:07:45] claim they are blind to enabling this activity. I do [00:07:49] think um, that lot these threats are [00:07:53] legitimate threats on smaller levels, uh, but make no [00:07:56] mistake, when this thing goes all the way, like we have to be [00:08:00] willing to let our entire petro dollar [00:08:03] system fail, and there seems to be people wanting that to happen, or at least [00:08:07] not caring about those results, but uh, no, there absolutely [00:08:11] is a show. going on here uh, because the idea is that if you can get [00:08:15] Iran to maybe come back to the [00:08:18] negotiating table somewhere, it doesn't look like Iran's somewhere, [00:08:22] it doesn't look like Iran's in any position, uh, conditions [00:08:26] have remained very conditions have remained very, [00:08:30] very unchanged, uh, they haven't budged at all, they need, they want that 300 [00:08:34] billion in US compensation, uh, they want the US to be lifting all [00:08:38] the sanctions, there's a whole list of things and that includes uh, stopping [00:08:42] the the uh bombardment of south Lebanon and Gaza, none of this stuff has [00:08:46] happened, this was stuff that was put into the mou ori [00:08:49] originally, it's been signed by both parties, so that's the thing that [00:08:53] Iran's not going to budge on, so we'll see how far bessent and [00:08:57] the rest the Trump team uh want to take [00:08:59] this. [00:09:11] Iran has spent years developing alternative mechanisms for [00:09:15] sanctions evasion, including intermediaries, informal banking [00:09:19] channels, borter arrangements a front companies and [00:09:23] alternative trading partners. the effectiveness of [00:09:26] operation economic outcast will therefore depend heavily on [00:09:30] how willing countries such as China, the UAE, [00:09:33] Turkey and others are to cooperate with Washington [00:09:37] and how aggressively the US uses secondary sanctions against [00:09:41] them. [00:10:31] "sanctions never actually do the thing they tell us they're going to do, and there is [00:10:34] absolutely a history of this um, and so and let's go to the [00:10:38] actual the narrative that is is not holding up right now, the fact that [00:10:42] Trump originally in this second term he ran on being the [00:10:46] anti-war president, that was never the thing, and you have to go back to that [00:10:50] 2018 maximum pressure campaign when he was president to [00:10:53] really show..." what he was re-elected to do this time uh, he [00:10:57] started uh that campaign, we're talking about when he first got in, [00:11:01] he ran on tearing up the Iran nuclear deal, that's [00:11:05] exactly what he he ran on, that's what he actually did, and [00:11:09] that's as it was called maximum pressure, and it was actually designed [00:11:13] escalate, not to de-escalate, and that's why we [00:11:17] saw Iran respond thoroughly that way, to [00:11:21] to rise up and be ready for what is happening now, and Trump's been the only... [00:11:25] us president that's been willing to actually start this war with [00:11:28] Iran, that's why his handlers allowed him back in, because he showed [00:11:32] every sign that he was going to be able to do the thing that Bill [00:11:36] Clinton didn't do, that Obama didn't do, that Biden didn't [00:11:39] do, and so this is exactly what's happening now, it's not a fluke, it's not [00:11:43] a oh, he Baiton switched us, he's doing the thing that he showed [00:11:47] us with that maximum pressure [00:11:50] campaign. [00:12:08] This is the social section the program, ironically this is very [00:12:12] telling confession. In other words, Iran is capable of [00:12:15] outpacing the US administration's [00:12:18] miscalculations, not only on the military front, but also [00:12:22] on the economic front. It can expose. the failure of [00:12:26] officials like Scott Bestens to contain the blowback the [00:12:29] administration's missteps on the US economy and impact [00:12:33] Washington is desperately trying to hide behind empty [00:12:37] rhetoric. Iranians, if you look at their x accounts [00:12:41] that they are trying to create economic problems in the US, [00:12:45] either they from using the bond yields, using the [00:12:48] oil price, and just because the whether [00:12:52] it's Stephanie, Bloomberg, the financial... times, even the Wall Street [00:12:56] Journal, are [00:12:58] so unhing with Trump derrangement syndrome, they want to give the [00:13:01] Iranians [00:13:03] a platform, the to operate on. Scott Beson [00:13:07] exposes that operation economic outcast is not about [00:13:10] Iran, it is about attacking China, Venezuela and Iran [00:13:14] or all about cutting China's oil sources. One one the [00:13:18] things we've done and what the president's done is fantastic sequencing, so we we [00:13:22] are running operation. economic outcast right [00:13:26] now, and this is the greatest economic isolation operation in the [00:13:29] history the world, we are going to exfixiate this regime. now we have the [00:13:33] bloccade, and because the bloccade, [00:13:35] the oil is not getting out, so there's [00:13:39] probably only about 30 million barrels of Iranian crude oil left that china [00:13:43] hasn't bought, so that will run out soon, and there there [00:13:47] will be, no problem with China buying because they have no product, so the [00:13:50] blockade is is bl, the blockade is working, [00:13:54] reporters, you described this as economic dday, [00:13:57] but DED wasn't a threat of invasion, and the US didn't [00:14:01] give a timeline to Germany, so why not impose the sanctions [00:14:05] today? Besson said, why would I want to blow up the [00:14:09] global financial system? Well, we we are giving everyone [00:14:13] the opportunity the to remedy bad behavior. [00:14:17] Why would I want to blow up the global financial system? We [00:14:21] believe that it is important to level set and give people. [00:14:25] cure period, but they should know that that will move very [00:14:28] quickly and that we are serious. secondary [00:14:32] sanctions are very powerful tool, and we here [00:14:36] at treasury, this is Jean Lang, the acting under secretary [00:14:40] for terrorism finance, and in the terrorism finance [00:14:43] department and in OFAC, the reason we are able to use [00:14:47] secondary sanctions is because we do not take their use lightly. how [00:14:51] did it Besent see how his fund would [00:14:55] work out and how did it actually work out? besten was a [00:14:59] failure in the private sector and is now just puppet for Donald [00:15:03] Trump. keys square capital management Scott Beson started [00:15:07] defund in 2015 after leaving George Sorus's [00:15:10] firm. he raised $4.5 billion dollars making it [00:15:14] one the largest fund launches in history. the fund [00:15:18] reaches a peak of about 5.1 billion [00:15:21] dollars in assets under management in 2017. but [00:15:25] it lost money during several difficult years, client [00:15:29] withdraws because the weak returns, major [00:15:33] institutional investors pulled the money out, the number of big [00:15:37] investors dropped from 180 down to 20, [00:15:40] asset shrinkage, total assets fell by nearly [00:15:44] 90% from their peak, dropping to roughly [00:15:47] $577 million dollars by the end [00:15:51] of [00:15:51] 2023. [00:16:22] Thank you very much for inviting me uh onto this [00:16:24] program. [00:16:44] That is exactly the reason why some are calling it a show or [00:16:48] a charade or demonstration effect [00:16:52] rather than an actual plan uh that may be [00:16:56] effective um in achieving uh [00:17:00] goals that uh the military and diplomatic assault [00:17:03] upon Iran has failed to achieve up to this point. [00:17:07] since the illegal US Israeli attack upon [00:17:11] Iran on February 28th. I think it's very [00:17:14] important to remember at the very [00:17:17] outset that unilateral and secondary [00:17:21] sanctions, like the US has a imposed in the past [00:17:24] and is proposing to do now [00:17:28] under this new program that they've [00:17:31] unveiled economic outcast. They [00:17:35] are illegal in international. [00:17:44] Oil is at the heart of oil is at the heart of [00:17:48] sanctions, the new strategy is find everyone who makes the oil [00:17:52] sale possible, that means targeting owners, vessel managers, [00:17:55] brokers, insures, shipping companies, bunkering companies, [00:17:59] front companies, financial intermediaries, petroleum companies, shadow [00:18:03] fleet vessels, people who receive and move the proceeds, [00:18:07] Does the US really think that is [00:18:09] possible? [00:19:00] Iran has shown incredible resilience and [00:19:04] resistance and this has had an effect in [00:19:07] global and geopolitical and international [00:19:11] relations in exposing the US weakness [00:19:14] uh [00:19:15] and um as result um it has uh [00:19:18] demonstrated and shown that the failures [00:19:22] to uh with this imposed war uh [00:19:26] suggest that uh it is possible for [00:19:29] countries even countries that are not superpowers to [00:19:33] find the resources um to resist ' [00:19:38] US [00:19:39] domination. [00:19:59] This is the info news section the program, the changing world cannot be steered [00:20:03] in world cannot be steered by outdated institution. [00:20:08] reforms are essential in representation, responsiveness and [00:20:11] rule making. The Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a greater [00:20:15] role for the global south in international decision making, Saudi [00:20:19] oil output. Saudi oil output plunges to lowest [00:20:23] since 1990. Riyad told OPEC that production [00:20:27] fell by 1.9 million barrels per day last month [00:20:31] to 6.238 million barrels per day. The [00:20:35] Iran war and the Ansar law campaign again. the kingdom have a [00:20:38] squeezed export roots as oil prices have surged [00:20:42] above $100 per barrel. Donald [00:20:46] Trump's dividend promise, will Trump pay all you. is [00:20:50] the dolls $5,000, some Trump supporters are [00:20:53] skeptical. Observers are on both sides [00:20:57] the political divide expressed concern about Donald Trump's pledge to [00:21:01] award cash dividend for midterm wins. The high [00:21:05] price tag would be outrageous, that would cost over [00:21:08] $1 trillion dollars, that would add to the deficit, [00:21:12] it's already 40 trillion dollars. Now [00:21:16] Palestine's economy, Israelity checkpoints and a west bank. [00:21:20] are choking the palestinian economy, escalating [00:21:23] matrix of military closures and road blocks is [00:21:27] devastating local businesses and fragmenting the [00:21:31] palestinian land. there are about 925 checkpoints [00:21:34] and military gates across the occupied west bank, [00:21:38] 147 located in the napolis [00:21:41] governorate. [00:22:13] This is the in-depth section the program, operation [00:22:16] economic d-day or economic outcast low seeing get, [00:22:20] these are some the terms the US has used when it comes to [00:22:24] Iran. To push Iran into submission with economic [00:22:27] strangulation at the heart of it, but Iran has time and again [00:22:31] said it will not surrender, rather it's the US actions that are [00:22:35] pushing the US itself to surrender when it comes to [00:22:38] Iran. [00:22:46] The US secretary of Treasury Scott Beson officially. announced [00:22:50] the beginning of operation economic outcast against Iran. [00:22:54] This marks the beginning of economic isolation campaign that [00:22:58] includes sanctions, secondary sanctions and cutting off [00:23:02] all economic lifelines to Iran. Any country doing business with [00:23:05] Iran, facilitating trade or providing credit will [00:23:09] be hit with secondary sanctions. China already announced that it [00:23:13] will not follow these US sanctions. That is said [00:23:17] to be different from ordinary. sanctions, but it has [00:23:21] been done in the past and failed. the easiest way to [00:23:25] understand the difference is traditional sanctions target Iranian [00:23:29] people and companies. economic outcast targets the [00:23:31] entire financial ecosystem, [00:23:34] particularly transactions are blocked. we have the [00:23:38] economic outcast attacks the networking enabling [00:23:42] transactions. sounds good on paper, but has been [00:23:45] tested before and failed. now on that point, let me bring [00:23:49] in matt. Weinglass, political analyst. The question that I had, [00:23:53] Matt is, the criticism is basically this, that [00:23:56] sanctions can seriously damage Iran's economy [00:24:00] without necessarily forcing Iran's leadership to capitulate [00:24:04] or surrender, that is what the US has always been warning. [00:24:08] That distinction is at the heart the debate. Isn't what the US [00:24:12] knows fully well, as we have seen so far, but [00:24:16] it still executes this sanctions package to maybe achieve. [00:24:20] what provoke protest, then regime [00:24:23] change? yes, again, all the reasons we [00:24:26] conduct these campaigns of economic warfare, and it's not just with Iran, we have a [00:24:30] history of doing this um all over the place, this is our this is [00:24:34] our mantra, this is what imperialism looks like uh, the these [00:24:38] these type of sanctioning it's about going in, stealing land, [00:24:42] stealing resources, murdering uh elected leaders in [00:24:45] cases, some cases kidnapping them as we've done in Venezuela, but this is this [00:24:49] is... has been our tried and trued uh uh blueprint for how we [00:24:53] conduct uh imperialism on behalf the war machine and [00:24:57] in this case this particular administration we're doing it on [00:25:00] behalf of Israel, his handlers, we're talking about the greater [00:25:04] Israel project, the Adelsons uh, that's the biggest money that was been [00:25:08] contributed to this campaign, and that's again why Trump was [00:25:11] handselected uh to [00:25:13] come back in the second term and and conduct this these this [00:25:16] economic warfare, now let's say look... look [00:25:20] at what harm the economic dday has done to the US, putting Iran [00:25:24] to decide for moment. the first one is oil prices have [00:25:28] risen by 8% to $109 per barrel. [00:25:31] diesel has been reaching $6 a gallon [00:25:35] and has been taking over the b has been taking over [00:25:39] the b roof 5.2%. roof [00:25:42] 5.2%. a day that has backfired on itself. a day [00:25:46] that has backfired [00:25:47] on itselfes. it has been economic. It's has been [00:25:50] economic dday, I guess, now in that final point, let me bring [00:25:54] a hussein, professor of history at quins [00:25:57] university, the question that I had adnon, it's an [00:26:01] open secret. "the US knows that sanctions won't impact the [00:26:05] Islamic Republic in the way that the US wants. The US [00:26:09] wants regime change, that's plain and simple. Even the US [00:26:13] treasury secretary Scott Bessand has said so. Is [00:26:16] this the US sanctions package meant to do just [00:26:20] that? Well, I think that's an important point, because sanctions [00:26:23] certainly can do damage to the economy without [00:26:27] achieving the political goals that are the rational for it, and [00:26:31] that's why I said it." very outset that it is a form of collective [00:26:35] punishment that harms and hurts the poorest and the most vulnerable, [00:26:39] and the US has been doing this imposing unilateral illegal sanctions [00:26:43] upon so many countries in the world, and the evidence is [00:26:47] that it doesn't achieve uh so-called regime change or [00:26:50] any the political goals, it just causes serious harm [00:26:54] in the economy and those who are affected most by it are, as I said, [00:26:58] the poor and the vulnerable. [00:27:25] The US has failed in its military operation against Iran, [00:27:28] including in the straight [00:27:30] of remoz, its military ambitions have made the situation much worse for [00:27:33] the US economy, the numbers speak for themselves, now [00:27:37] that the ansorol resistance movement has taken over the Bob Almandab [00:27:41] straight, things look even worse for the US, which is [00:27:44] basically left with no choice but to withdraw from its military [00:27:48] operation and the west Asia region itself. This is the [00:27:51] website page of economic divide. Feel free to browse through all of our previous [00:27:55] programs and tell us how you're doing. I'm Krash Punavati and I'll see you next [00:27:59] week. [00:30:10] Headlines on Press TV: Iran's top security official says the only [00:30:14] way for the US to get out the predicament it is created is to accept [00:30:18] Iran seven [00:30:19] conditions. [00:30:24] Yemin want Saudi Arabia to any escalation against the country will be met with [00:30:28] stronger response and increases the price at viad has to. [00:30:32] Okay.
