[00:00:12] in [00:00:42] in [00:00:52] of [00:01:02] of [00:01:42] of of [00:01:49] of [00:02:11] of [00:02:20] of [00:02:26] Hello and welcome to [00:02:27] of spotlight, I am bah, israel is facing increasingly [00:02:31] visible diplomatic pressure at the UN with [00:02:34] of its international standing [00:02:36] of becoming in central issue in this year's general assembly during [00:02:39] israely prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu's address [00:02:42] delegations from dozens of [00:02:44] of countries were absent or walked out the Israely officials counted [00:02:48] 77 delegations at the same [00:02:51] of time of criticism over the war in Gaza developments [00:02:53] of in the occupied West Bank and also Israeli aggressions around the [00:02:57] region in the West Asia region in particular. has also raised lot of [00:03:01] concern on international stage and - let us not forget [00:03:05] that the international crimin court of justice also [00:03:09] um issued a verdict and the arrest [00:03:12] warrant for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his [00:03:16] former war minister Yaf Gallant for their involvement [00:03:20] in crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza and the West [00:03:24] Bank so these are all the developments that [00:03:26] of we're going to discuss um tonight and on this spotlight. to [00:03:30] see how does the um international community is going to [00:03:34] react to all of this and to the further isolation [00:03:37] of the Israely regime and the Israeli prime minister in [00:03:40] particular. allow me to introduce my [00:03:43] guests. [00:03:48] in [00:03:52] professor sad nimmer, professor of political science joining us from [00:03:55] Beerzoit University and also Masud Shajar, chairman [00:03:59] of the island. human rights commission joining us from [00:04:02] London, well very good to have you on this [00:04:06] of uh bulletin, I'm going to first discuss the first question, [00:04:10] but both of you are here, I was worried maybe one of you were missing out, it [00:04:14] was a pleasure to have you both on this um [00:04:16] spotlight, um professor Nimmer, I'm going to start [00:04:20] in with the scene at the United Nations itself, dozens of [00:04:23] delegations, [00:04:24] the Israelis themselves counted 77 delegations [00:04:28] walked out or were absent for. Prime Minister Benim Netanyahu's [00:04:31] address, what does this unprecedentedly visible [00:04:34] diplomatic protest tell us about the atmosphere surrounding [00:04:38] Israel and the UN? Good evening to you, [00:04:42] to your guest from London and to all your [00:04:45] a viewers. Well, this is not the first time, but this time I think [00:04:49] it was even bigger. We are talking [00:04:51] of about more than 77 nations and delegations [00:04:55] left the the uh hall in in the United [00:04:59] Nations. kind of protest against [00:05:02] whatever Netanyahu is going to say, that [00:05:06] showed that there is kind of around the world [00:05:10] generally, they are started [00:05:11] of to understand stand that Israel is not [00:05:15] only dangerous in in the region [00:05:19] against the Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank, but also [00:05:22] against Lebanon, against Syria, against Qatar, against [00:05:26] even Tunisia at some stage and also against [00:05:30] Iran, so the one who is in the [00:05:33] area pretending and always using [00:05:36] as Netanyahu speech and [00:05:40] statements cleared that, they are defending [00:05:44] themselves, this is not defending, this is atrocities against all [00:05:48] the region to you know put forward their own [00:05:52] agenda in the region to control the region, so [00:05:56] everyone now started to understand that that this entity called [00:05:59] Israel is absolutely out of all kind [00:06:03] of laws and out the regulations by [00:06:07] the United Nations and by the whole international [00:06:10] community, the... "the thing that also some [00:06:14] European countries also did that, [00:06:18] not only African and Asian countries and South [00:06:21] American, but also some European countries did [00:06:25] that as well, so that showed that in Netanyahu's [00:06:29] policies and Israel policy and Israel [00:06:32] existence in the region anyway, now is [00:06:35] under a big question mark, and that came because also the people [00:06:39] in all these countries were in in huge dem." [00:06:42] relations against Israel and what happened [00:06:45] in in in the the last three years [00:06:48] and especially during the genocide in Gaza, [00:06:52] so now these leaders these [00:06:55] countries, they have both the [00:06:58] legal background as well as [00:07:01] the ethical background, the legal background [00:07:05] is quite obvious by the ICJ [00:07:09] decision about you know the genocide. and the [00:07:13] ICC regarding [00:07:15] you know the orders of of [00:07:18] arresting Netanyahu and Gallant, that's [00:07:22] quite obvious now in the legal side that they are covered in the [00:07:26] legal side, it's it's the international community who's saying [00:07:29] that the international law and and ethically when [00:07:33] the people outside in the streets [00:07:37] marching against Israel and its policies that give them [00:07:40] also this ethical b ground to also take action [00:07:44] against Israel. Right, Mr. Shajar, of course, what we [00:07:48] witnessed at the UN general assembly did not [00:07:52] happen in isolation. In recent days a number of different [00:07:55] governments from different continents the world used the UN platform [00:07:59] to criticize Israeli actions in Gaza and the occupied West [00:08:03] Bank. The Gaza war has particularly become one the defining issues of [00:08:07] Israel's relationship with the international community [00:08:10] today. How has this skate? the humanitarian crisis and [00:08:14] destruction in Gaza affected Israel's diplomatic relationships [00:08:18] including with countries that have traditionally maintain really close [00:08:22] ties with it. well, [00:08:25] i think from one aspect, it is good [00:08:29] to see that many people, [00:08:33] many governments are walking [00:08:35] out in sort of at the [00:08:39] UN when he starts [00:08:41] the speaking, but another level, I actually think [00:08:44] is really disgraceful [00:08:48] that he's even allowed to come [00:08:51] and promote his war crime, I [00:08:55] mean this is a self-confess war criminal, he is [00:08:59] proud of committing war crime and ethnic [00:09:03] cleansing, and indeed everyone [00:09:06] every nation should have walked out, he shouldn't have been [00:09:10] even allowed to... come to united [00:09:14] nation and behave and even [00:09:17] be able to sort of do his [00:09:21] propaganda the way he tried to do. mean, [00:09:25] let's face it, what is the state is not [00:09:29] just issue of palestinians and gaza, and [00:09:33] is not just Lebanon or Iran. this guy [00:09:37] and those who support him, including United States and [00:09:40] Trump, are really... trying to drag [00:09:44] humanity into a very dark places, [00:09:47] normalized genocide as means of sort [00:09:51] of diplomatic maneuvering, [00:09:55] and really what is at the sake is the future of [00:09:58] humanity, and in that sort of [00:10:01] context, i think one should really [00:10:05] say that united nation and its [00:10:08] members are really behind when [00:10:12] comes to standing up against this sort of [00:10:16] behavior and genocidal tendencies [00:10:19] of Israel and united state [00:10:23] and and ordinary. people around the world are [00:10:27] much more aware and committed [00:10:30] against or even [00:10:34] western Europe, I mean overwhelming majority of people around the [00:10:38] world, including United State, including [00:10:41] the sort of republican are [00:10:44] against this war, they're against war against Iran [00:10:48] and they see it for what it is, and I, [00:10:52] I, I think the international community including [00:10:56] UN and international courts are really failing [00:10:59] humanity. Right, professor, focusing on prime [00:11:03] minister Netanyahu himself, there was there seemed to be [00:11:07] this change of attitude, personally speaking [00:11:10] about um prime minister Netanyahu um comparing to for [00:11:13] example the way he addressed the international community like in [00:11:17] 1998 for example where he was openly saying that [00:11:21] um we are going to always prioritize peace. and [00:11:25] that sort of stuff, but this year he had chosen to be [00:11:29] aggressive, even when it came to the delegations, he started [00:11:33] by, if there are more cowards among you who would like to leave, please [00:11:36] do it now, it was something totally unprecedented, [00:11:40] even for an Israeli prime minister, how do you analyze [00:11:43] that? well, yes, I think [00:11:46] that the the statement came out of Netanyahu in the [00:11:50] United Nations was so arrogant and so rude as [00:11:54] well, first of all he insulted all these [00:11:57] delegation countries around the world, in countries around [00:12:01] the world who left the the uh the whole [00:12:05] and and yet [00:12:06] he is calling them cowards, you know this is really [00:12:10] insult to all these countries showing this [00:12:13] arrogance that they have, this is on one hand, on the other [00:12:17] hand all the speech that he talked about, he was trying to [00:12:20] defend his army and his country in whatever they [00:12:24] are doing. and especially in Gaza and especially with the genocide [00:12:28] war and he tried to deny that there was a [00:12:32] genocide, forgetting that he was he is wanted by the [00:12:35] ICC and at the same time he tried to [00:12:39] justify that this is you know kind [00:12:42] of self defense for [00:12:46] Israel in order you know to attack all these countries [00:12:50] around the middle east so [00:12:52] it it is kind of [00:12:53] you know very... poor and very full of [00:12:57] lies kind of speech, no one is going to buy [00:13:00] it at all, or even give it any any [00:13:04] weight, but at the same time it showed to what extent the [00:13:08] arrogance of Israel and how they are you know [00:13:11] insisting on what they are doing, insisting on what they are [00:13:15] doing is right, and it's their right by their attacks on [00:13:19] Lebanon, on Syria, on Qatar, on Tunisia and on [00:13:23] Iran as well, so... he's like speaking from [00:13:26] this point of view that we have the right, [00:13:30] that's basically because we are much better than you [00:13:34] and we have to control all this region, basically that's what [00:13:38] he's saying, he's forgetting that Israel since it was [00:13:42] established 1948, till today there isn't [00:13:45] one single decade, there wasn't a major [00:13:49] war in the region, so they were created to do that, they were there [00:13:53] in order to make instability to the whole middle [00:13:57] east right? um, Mr. Shajar, we are also [00:14:00] seeing developments beyond the UN itself, [00:14:04] um, several countries have changed or strengthened their diplomatic [00:14:08] positions regarding palestinian statehood, how important [00:14:12] is the growing recognition of Palestine in understanding [00:14:15] Israel's changing position in international [00:14:18] politics. I [00:14:21] think, I, I think what we are seeing, indeed [00:14:25] there is huge change in the international relations [00:14:29] and the position the people [00:14:33] who see the truth and they have been woken up [00:14:37] and that has created a amazing [00:14:40] opportunity, mean you only have to go among [00:14:44] masses even in London, New [00:14:47] York and and the streets of Europe and [00:14:51] to real we are at the crossroad is not just... [00:14:55] issue of Gaza and is not just issue [00:14:59] of western Asia, it [00:15:03] really is the humanity at the stake and people are making [00:15:06] a stand, and so what we've got at the moment is [00:15:10] crossroad for humanity, on one side, the [00:15:13] direction of genocide and genocidal policy and [00:15:17] normalization promoted by [00:15:20] Netanyahu, Trump and his clonies [00:15:23] and and so... and then on other side those [00:15:27] who are saying that this has to stop, and [00:15:31] they are very clearly day by [00:15:34] day coming to the realization. that the only [00:15:38] option is resistance and supporting the [00:15:42] resistance and is [00:15:44] commitment to resist against this [00:15:48] policy, and then we have people who really [00:15:51] just want to get on with their lives in the middle who really [00:15:55] don't care one way or other, but what we are seeing, the [00:15:59] number of those who are recognizing the [00:16:03] danger that is facing humanity and are willing to... [00:16:07] to make a stand, be it in the west or the [00:16:11] east or Africa or anywhere else in the [00:16:14] world, is increasing day by day, and they are [00:16:18] willing to make a commitment and they are also willing to pay [00:16:22] the price of standing against these [00:16:25] genocidal tendencies of Netanyahu [00:16:29] and co, and so that's why that's the real [00:16:33] game, what we are seeing, that awakening among [00:16:36] people, and then being the politicians are [00:16:40] being forced to change their position and I think this [00:16:44] is the reality that we are facing [00:16:48] day by day and the days of Netanyahu and [00:16:52] Trump and his clonies and their [00:16:55] elites are outnumbered and there is [00:16:59] huge awakening and this awakening [00:17:02] is thank God is is is [00:17:05] getting stronger. day by day and hour by [00:17:09] hour, right? professor, well, at the same [00:17:13] time, let us not forget that Israel continues to have powerful diplomatic [00:17:17] partners, most importantly, and obviously the United [00:17:20] States. how much does continued support from Washington, [00:17:24] effect the practical consequences the international criticism [00:17:28] Israel is facing [00:17:29] today? [00:17:33] please activate your voice, professor, sorry, I think... [00:17:37] that the United States is facing really a hard time now [00:17:41] after supporting this genocidal war and [00:17:45] supporting Israel in general, providing them not only with weapon and [00:17:49] money and also protect them diplomatically [00:17:53] in the United nations, so the changes [00:17:56] are coming, that's absolutely sure about it, but [00:18:00] maybe that will take some some time, till now there [00:18:04] is very profound and strategic relation. [00:18:08] between Israel and the Americans in the part on the [00:18:11] the interest, the interest the United States, the deep state in the [00:18:15] United States is interested in supporting Israel, because that will [00:18:19] provide them with kind [00:18:21] of you know control over the region, which is one the most [00:18:25] important regions around the world, especially because [00:18:28] the oil, so definitely there will [00:18:32] continue, but we can see now the changes [00:18:36] in the American society. itself, not only by the [00:18:39] demonstrations, but also all the polls showed that more than [00:18:43] 60% in the American people in general change their [00:18:47] mind about what's going on in in the middle east and about [00:18:51] Israel and they don't want to support Israel anymore, on [00:18:55] the other hand also it's among the [00:18:59] Jewish young generation who are more than [00:19:03] 50% them now is against Israel and what Israel [00:19:07] is do... and this is very important because these are the generation [00:19:11] which is going to be next in in in in [00:19:14] America in the political positions and political [00:19:18] pressure, so till now we can see these changes, but [00:19:22] these changes are not going to show directly a [00:19:26] very [00:19:27] you know short time, it it needs some middle and [00:19:30] and long term [00:19:32] you know period. Mr. Shajar, what about Israel's traditional [00:19:36] relationship? uh with Europe, countries such as France, [00:19:40] Britain and others that have increasingly voiced [00:19:43] criticism when it comes to gaza and the west bank, of course, not [00:19:47] Iran, for example, but I'll be witnessing a [00:19:50] lasting change in Europe's approach to Israel as [00:19:53] well, we are seeing a tremendous [00:19:57] change, I mean Macron's speech [00:20:00] and Spain's [00:20:03] position and... [00:20:08] European nations are now having to [00:20:12] sort of respond and behave differently [00:20:15] because of what their own population is [00:20:19] demanding, and this is also the same [00:20:23] situation in united state, ordinary people [00:20:27] are demanding, if it wasn't because [00:20:29] the genecidal [00:20:32] behavior of Netanyahu and the support [00:20:36] of Trump and [00:20:38] and and his administration, Trump would have been [00:20:42] much more popular, there wouldn't have been these crisis right now [00:20:46] in united state, so these changes..." these [00:20:50] changes of attitude by ordinary [00:20:53] people and in right across the [00:20:56] nations, [00:20:57] you know, it really is forcing the politicians [00:21:00] to to behave a different way. [00:21:04] one could argue that this is too little, too late, but [00:21:08] nevertheless this direction is [00:21:11] becoming much more stronger and [00:21:15] in very long gone, and they are [00:21:19] real crisis [00:21:21] vis of popularity, and professor [00:21:24] Nimmer, finally, looking ahead, what would actually [00:21:28] demonstrate, whether this diplomatic pressure is producing [00:21:31] any substantial fundamental change? should we [00:21:35] be looking at further recognition of Palestine, changes in [00:21:39] arms or diplomatic policies, stronger international [00:21:43] legal action, UN measures or something else as the key [00:21:46] indicators of where Israel's international position. is [00:21:50] heading? yes, let me remind you [00:21:54] that when the boycott of South Africa started, [00:21:58] it started on the grassroot decisions against South [00:22:01] Africa, so the same thing we are now watching, the people around the [00:22:05] world are [00:22:06] you know criticizing Israel and they are forming you know lots of [00:22:10] action around that what we need, not only that people [00:22:14] going out in demonstrations, but we want to see some action being taken [00:22:18] like pressure groups or... boycott and other [00:22:22] things which will affect Israel particularly and [00:22:25] also presurize their [00:22:28] governments to take action. some the governments till [00:22:32] now what they are doing is just minor things which [00:22:36] just to come down their own audience, their own [00:22:39] people [00:22:40] like you know recognizing a Palestinian state. yes, it it's in the [00:22:44] is good, long but [00:22:45] this that run didn't stop the genocide when it [00:22:49] was going. there so what do you mean by recognizing a Palestinian [00:22:53] state? if you want to recognize a Palestinian state you have to do [00:22:56] something or otherwise you are going to recognize a state without [00:23:00] people because the genocide and the ethnic [00:23:03] cleansing of Palestine so that's that's the [00:23:07] issue that to take action yes on the level the United [00:23:11] Nations we know that all these laws were which was set [00:23:15] after the second world war, but what what [00:23:19] was called the... international community, what is the international community? [00:23:23] we are talking about America and the western countries in Europe [00:23:27] and their allies here and there, is that the the international [00:23:31] community? however, this international community [00:23:34] laws which they've been put forward after the second world [00:23:38] war had failed miserably in dealing with any [00:23:42] issue, what can the United nations do? you know, nothing, [00:23:46] nothing, because there is veto by United States if there is any... [00:23:50] action will be taken, so we have to go to the general [00:23:53] assembly under the seventh article to say [00:23:57] that united for peace and to [00:24:00] have force decisions on on [00:24:03] even the security council in order to force [00:24:07] Israel to stop what they are doing all the time and to take [00:24:11] measures against Israel. professor, mr. [00:24:15] masoud chajer, it was indeed a pleasure to have you both on this spotlight [00:24:19] and that's about. It for this evening's program, the truth will [00:24:23] always come out. Thank you for [00:24:24] your attention, I am [00:24:25] Bahman. [00:24:41] When bombs stop falling, casualty figures are talied, names are added [00:24:45] to lists, but numbers cannot measure the lives that unravel [00:24:49] after. explosions, wars count those killed by [00:24:52] missiles, they rarely count those who survived them and [00:24:56] may later die of grief. yes, you heard that right, [00:25:00] grief. 31 year old sayid became [00:25:04] one of those. in the early hours of march 26, a US is [00:25:08] really strike reduced her family home after neighborhood [00:25:12] to rubble. her husband, local football coach hussein [00:25:15] maliki and their two young sons, age five and three [00:25:19] were... killed around them nine homes were destroyed and 24 [00:25:23] people died from the US Israely attack. Alham survived for [00:25:27] seven hours rescuers searched through concrete and twisted [00:25:31] steel before pulling her from beneath the debris. The [00:25:35] fallen sofa had shielded her head from the collapsing [00:25:38] building, but her injuries were severe. Her greatest wounds, [00:25:42] however, were invisible. weeks later, a video of elham [00:25:46] standing on the ruins of her home spread across Iran. in [00:25:50] her hands was a hand-written note rescued from the rubble, one her [00:25:54] young son had written before the attack, as she read [00:25:58] it, her voice faltered, around her lay the remains [00:26:01] the life. life she had built, her father says that after [00:26:05] losing her husband, her children and her home, she was [00:26:09] never the same. she withdrew from the world, spoke [00:26:13] constantly of her family and struggled to bear even [00:26:16] ordinary sounds. after more than two months of [00:26:20] overwhelming grief, after losing her family in US Israely [00:26:24] attack, she suffered fatal stroke and died. her [00:26:27] story speaks to a quieter taller war of survivors [00:26:31] who carried. the destruction with them long after the [00:26:35] dos settles. It also reflects a wider pattern of [00:26:39] U.S. Israely aggression across the region that has left behind [00:26:42] a deeper tool not only a single moment of impact, but [00:26:46] in the lasting human consequences that [00:26:49] follow. [00:26:59] I found Iranian Jewish leaders like Dr. Same. to be [00:27:03] both stoic about the reality the region they inhabit and [00:27:06] confident about their future inside the Islamic [00:27:09] Republic. Indeed, the Jewish community was secure [00:27:13] inside Iran, at least until soon after I left the [00:27:17] country. [00:27:26] When Israel launched its unprovoked attack, initiating [00:27:30] a war that left almost 1 and Iranians dead from the [00:27:34] Jewish community of Yazd, Kodadad Goharyan denounced [00:27:38] the Israeli attacks on his country and endorsed Iran's [00:27:41] military response. Despite the growing pressure from the [00:27:45] outside, Iran's Jews are holding their ground, [00:27:48] observing their traditions inside the country they [00:27:52] recognize as their authentic [00:27:54] homeland. [00:28:06] In today's show we'll be considering whether Ed Milliban's statement to the House of Commons [00:28:10] on Tuesday marked to see change in the UK's relationship with the [00:28:13] Zionist colony or was it simply performative politics? This is a [00:28:17] performative measure [00:28:19] and and the performance is that the British government is seen to be doing something [00:28:23] serious uh and the performance is also that the zonists are seem [00:28:27] to be resisting as if this is the end the possibility of [00:28:31] Jews living in the UK. which of course is ridiculous, we see [00:28:34] Israel increasingly integrated with imperialism on [00:28:38] the one hand, but considering itself an independent imperial [00:28:42] power and trying to leverage all kinds of tech advantages [00:28:45] and economic advantages that it enjoys to have not only [00:28:49] the Abraham cause with the Isaac cause and being increasingly close to certain prime [00:28:53] ministers including [00:28:54] Milain. [00:29:48] Tops here on Press TV, Iran's president has criticized US for failing to [00:29:52] abide by the Islamabad mediated mou, saying the agreement can be [00:29:56] the basis for hormones trade to be [00:29:58] reopened, Iraq's Katib Hezbollah urges [00:30:02] Iraki. used to support Iran economically and counter US sie [00:30:05] calling for increased trade and purchases of Iranian [00:30:08] goods. and the Canadian Premier [00:30:12] Carney says he plans for possible US invasion and it comes [00:30:16] in Trump's claim about making Canada the 51st US [00:30:20] state.
