[00:03:03] of Hello, of I'm of Chris Williamson and this is Palestine [00:03:06] Declassified, but we focus on the international struggle to liberate [00:03:09] Palestine and expose Israel's efforts to manipulate the political class [00:03:13] of and corporate media. In today's show we'll be considering whether [00:03:17] Ed Milliman's statement to the House of [00:03:19] of Commons on Tuesday marked [00:03:21] of sea change in the UK's relationship with the [00:03:23] a Zionist colony, or was it simply performative politics? There's no [00:03:27] doubt that the labour party's hemorage support. its facilitation [00:03:31] of the genocide in Gaza, which rather begs a question, was the [00:03:35] purpose [00:03:35] of the foreign secretary statement aimed at winning back [00:03:38] of votes of who've deserted them in their droves, or was it [00:03:42] genuine [00:03:43] of shift in foreign policy? well, despite the [00:03:46] of hysterical reaction by prominent zionists like the [00:03:49] a chief rabbi, who said it marked a truly dark day for British Jews, [00:03:53] mil sanctions are incredibly modest, as this report will [00:03:56] explain, the British has [00:04:00] announced it will impose limited sanctions [00:04:02] of on the zionist entity, focused on settlements in the occupied West [00:04:06] Bank, which are illegal on the international [00:04:10] of law. On the 8th of September, Britain's foreign secretary Ed Millibann told the [00:04:14] House of Commons that Britain would ban imports of goods from the occupied [00:04:18] West Bank and create new powers to [00:04:21] of target companies and individuals who [00:04:23] of finance, build or advertise those settlements. Those measures [00:04:27] are due to take [00:04:28] of effect in six to nine months. from now, [00:04:31] of further more, the UK place sanctions on five additional individuals linked [00:04:35] to settler terrorism, bringing the UK's total number of sanction [00:04:39] settlers to 38. These measures follow on [00:04:43] from a longer pattern of slow and limited action [00:04:46] of taken by the British government. In late 2024, Britain [00:04:50] suspended a small number of [00:04:52] of arms of export licenses to Israel, and in June [00:04:55] 2025, the UK, alongside Australia, Canada, and [00:04:59] other. western countries imposed asset freezes and travel [00:05:03] of bands on Itamar ben gaver and [00:05:06] benzails, both of whom are ministers in the zianist [00:05:09] regime, however the latest announcement goes further than [00:05:13] those previous measures, the British government now recognizes [00:05:17] Israel's occupation as unlawful and has used the term [00:05:21] ethnic cleansing. Crucially, however, it still [00:05:25] refuses to recognize the Gaza genocide. But how [00:05:29] effective are these measures? Total trade between the UK and [00:05:32] designist entity stands at around 8 billion US dollars [00:05:36] a year. Trade with the occupied territories is estimated [00:05:40] to only be a small fraction of that at around $51 [00:05:44] million US dollars, meaning this will only be a small dent in [00:05:48] their trade relationship. moreover, it was reported [00:05:52] in Bloomberg that British diplomats had brief US [00:05:55] counterparts, that the sanctions are, quote, largely [00:05:58] symbolic, and will have no material impact in the UK's [00:06:02] wider relationship with Israel on trade or [00:06:05] security. despite the teppid nature the [00:06:08] sanctions, they invited a furious response from the zinanis. [00:06:12] These foreign minister Gidian Saar announced that the British [00:06:16] consulates in Alas Jerusalem would be closed, that [00:06:20] British representatives will be expelled from the International AID Center for [00:06:24] Gaza and that 12 elected British officials would be banned [00:06:28] from entering design entity. Ben Gaver also announced his [00:06:32] support for Argentina's claim to the Las Malvinas Islands or [00:06:36] the Falklands and the US ambassador to Israel Mike [00:06:39] Hockaby suggested that the US could impose. retaliatory [00:06:43] trade measures against the UK, while the UK's measures [00:06:47] against Israel [00:06:48] are undoubtably weak and unlikely to cause serious material [00:06:52] harm to Israel, they represent a clear shift in British government [00:06:56] policy away from open and active support for zin [00:07:00] is perpetrated genocide. well, joining me to [00:07:04] cut through the corporate media sensational headlines about the foreign [00:07:07] secretary statement is the secretary general the communist party [00:07:11] of Great Britain. [00:07:12] surgeon [00:07:16] vascular and [00:07:16] and he's endovascular published several books [00:07:19] including [00:07:21] is a zisism, consultant racist anti-semitic reactionary tool of imperialism. [00:07:25] I'm also joined as usual by our resident expert in the UK's leading scholarly critic [00:07:29] of Israel David Miller. David's also a co-director the lobby and watch Dog [00:07:32] Spinwatch and a senior research fellow with the center of Islam and Global [00:07:36] Affairs Istanbul Zame university. welcome to the [00:07:39] show. [00:07:41] I mean, has the British. gone far enough with these sanctions in your opinion [00:07:45] or was it too little too late? suspect you know my answer, [00:07:49] chris, it's i think it's very performative, yes too little, [00:07:53] yes too late, it's not too late in the sense that nothing can be done [00:07:56] now, irreparable damage obviously has been done through three years of [00:08:00] genocidal war against the people of gaza and the wider [00:08:04] region, west bank and the wider region, um since we've had [00:08:08] this labor government and i know we've had a switch of labor prime ministers - [00:08:12] labor have absolutely, as you say, been pivotal, instrumental [00:08:15] in the genocide, and if I my reading of history is that labor's always been [00:08:19] actually a party of Zionism, that's not that there haven't been [00:08:23] significant people within it such as yourself and Jeremy [00:08:26] Corbin who stood for Palestine and stood against the main [00:08:30] message the labor government, but you can go all the way back to 1924 and see [00:08:34] Ramsay McDonald sign the black letter, I'm sorry for my [00:08:38] pronunciation, in which he guaranteed you unlimited [00:08:42] immigration. and also the ongoing apart system of labor [00:08:45] laws within when Netanyahu Israel came [00:08:48] and to and address and the labor conference, which he did, he he pointed out [00:08:52] labor has always been a party of Zionism, this is very limited action only against the [00:08:55] west bank settlements, the illegal settlements in certain areas the west [00:08:59] bank, and and this comes a time when Israel has made quite clear, [00:09:03] not just through Bengavir, but through all of its ministers and all of its actions, its intention to [00:09:07] take the whole of Palestine and to to go to expand, so the [00:09:11] concept that there's a good israel a bad Israel, we can do business with a good Israel, but the bad [00:09:15] Israel these settlers somehow totally separate, and we can just stop module [00:09:18] dates coming into the country and but carry on our otherwise eight billion trade and [00:09:22] supporting and funding the genocide, it's clearly a [00:09:26] flaud, and that calls it out to me as another performative action by the [00:09:30] government, as you say, trying to protect its [00:09:32] heartland and and voting electoral [00:09:36] fortunes. was interesting that you talk about [00:09:40] the history the the labor party, the uh the support [00:09:44] for the the zionist colony ranjit, because going right back [00:09:48] to when the zionist entity was established in in [00:09:52] 1948, it was enthusiastically supported by leading [00:09:55] left-wing figures inside the labour party, wasn't it? people like naie beven [00:09:59] and in mardo were indeed tony benn i think at that time [00:10:02] was supportive of the establishment [00:10:05] of man you can understand you [00:10:09] know [00:10:10] from a historical perspective people's incredible sympathy. for the [00:10:13] triviles, the suffering of jews under the hands the nazis, but of course they weren't [00:10:17] alone in that suffering, the people of entire people of Europe suffered, 27 [00:10:21] million soviet citizens died, so there was a degree, and a high degree. [00:10:25] of sympathy for the suffering the Jewish people of Europe at the hands of [00:10:29] Nazism, but of that of course doesn't, you [00:10:33] discount or somehow um dissolve the historical [00:10:37] rights and the feelings the Arab population of [00:10:40] Palestine, whose rights have been trampled over by the entire zianist [00:10:44] settler colonial project. no, indeed, indeed. well, [00:10:47] David, what said Milliband up to, do you think I mean i's [00:10:50] announced even harsher sanctions to gates to Iran than the ones he's [00:10:54] imposed. on the zionist entity? well, of course he has. mean, ed beband is [00:10:58] not a critical zionism, he is a zionist himself, he's been labor friends of [00:11:02] Israel as everybody should know, and of course what's happening [00:11:06] here uh, you've used the word performative and i think ranjit did too, mean this is a [00:11:09] performative measure and and the performance is that [00:11:13] the British government is seen to be doing something serious and the [00:11:17] performance is also that the zionists are seem to be resisting as [00:11:21] if this is the end the possibility of Jews living in the UK. of [00:11:25] course is ridiculous and of course everything that the chief rabbi says is [00:11:29] ridiculous, he is [00:11:29] a genocidal maniac, he trained a in [00:11:33] yoshiva where he did IDF training in the evenings, so we should be taking [00:11:37] any lessons in anything from the chief rabbi, but of course that's not [00:11:41] how our political system operates, but look, [00:11:44] this is a performative measure, yes, but it is does [00:11:47] mark the first time that the british government has uh said that [00:11:51] under international law, the whole the west bank is in legal [00:11:55] occupation under international law, which of course everybody knew, but it's the first time the British government has [00:11:59] said that, so that's a useful thing for us for the movement, because of course we can use [00:12:03] that to leverage the some the the charities and other zionist [00:12:07] organizations who are directly sponsoring the genocide by funding illegal [00:12:10] settlements and of course the occupation forces, but let's see see [00:12:14] also [00:12:15] that the the question of what happens next, now the government will [00:12:19] be thinking that they can as ranjit says uh just boycot [00:12:23] a few middule dates and that that will be but of course what we have to do [00:12:26] is we [00:12:27] have to push this much much further, it's not that it's too little too late, it's that [00:12:30] there is lot more we need to do, not just in terms of direct boycot, but [00:12:34] also in terms of shutting down zionist organizations in this [00:12:37] country, mean it seems to me [00:12:41] David, the the chief rabbi is abusing [00:12:45] his religious status you know to make [00:12:48] these these these these [00:12:52] arguments which are essentially excuse [00:12:56] for a genocide? well, look, that's the problem [00:12:59] with almost the whole of organized jury, isn't it? the chief rabbi [00:13:03] represents something like 20 or 30% of Jews in this [00:13:07] country, through the United Synagogue, which is the largest synagogue [00:13:11] group in the country uh, and [00:13:14] that they are united in their support for genocide, and they have been for [00:13:18] very long time, they they run a whole series of schools and they have all their [00:13:21] synagogues, all of which are openly on their way. so it's [00:13:25] openly in support the genocide the existence the state of [00:13:29] Israel, so there isn't really separable [00:13:32] thing called religion that the that organized juryy has [00:13:36] especially the mainstream orthodox jews who are [00:13:40] associated with the united synagog and with the chief rabbi, so look he he's [00:13:43] a genocide air and so are all the rest them in that particular fraction of [00:13:47] of british jury and so that's what you would [00:13:51] expect, no indeed, I suspect though people um... [00:13:55] shy from from criticizing him because of his of his [00:13:59] religious status and maybe that's why [00:14:01] you know he gets away with as much as he he does do you think yes I think that's right I [00:14:05] mean the thing is that uh that [00:14:09] other religious leaders catholic or protestant even Hindu or Muslim [00:14:13] religious leaders are asked about things to do with their religion but also [00:14:17] to do with politics whereas with the with the chief rabbi I [00:14:21] mean he is uh outwardly and a [00:14:25] supporter of genocide and so we the thing is [00:14:29] that that politics in britain hasn't found a way of dealing with that and [00:14:33] understanding that properly and I suppose that's one the reasons why we do this show to [00:14:37] try and help people to understand very very [00:14:40] important role for the show I think in in that sense d [00:14:44] but range you meanwhile ben gavier I mean Israel's [00:14:47] so-called minister the national security is is supporting [00:14:51] Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands at the same time. [00:14:55] Argentinas just announced that it's filing a criminal complaint [00:14:59] against the Israeli oil company, navatas, I think they called for [00:15:02] operating without Argentina's authorization in the waters [00:15:06] around the the folks, I mean what's this all about do you think it is, it's [00:15:10] an interesting uh s side hustle isn't it? [00:15:14] I mean we've seen i spoke at David [00:15:16] at the launch the anti-fascist international which is a an organization trying [00:15:20] to pull and yourself of course trying to pull together um all [00:15:24] the anti'. [00:15:37] and trying to leverage all kinds of uh tech advantages and economic [00:15:41] advantages that it enjoys um to have not only the abraham [00:15:45] cause for the Isaac cause and being increasingly close to certain prime ministers [00:15:49] including Miley. Miley is an ultra-right [00:15:52] neoliberal school, very close to Trump, uh done done all [00:15:56] the progressive policies the the previous governments of [00:16:00] Argentina seeking to further burn down [00:16:03] rainforest is working in partnership, very close partnership with Israel. [00:16:07] at the same time, Argentina as a country which has technically been [00:16:11] within the sphere, I'd view it as satellite colon the United States, but [00:16:15] Britain historically had huge amount of interest there as [00:16:18] well in investing in its silver, silver [00:16:21] mining and and and so that has heavy capital [00:16:25] investment, so that's why you historically Britain had the the [00:16:28] argentinas argentina or the Falkland [00:16:32] islands, we know obviously we fought a war, I think is 1984, something that was [00:16:35] pivotal part of my... just before, just before the minor strike, pivotal [00:16:39] part of 82, [00:16:42] it was pivotal part of my upbringing, i remember it very much that iron lady versus [00:16:45] general galti and all the rest of it and simon [00:16:49] west who was like burnt on [00:16:51] the on [00:16:51] the on the ship and also this was a big part of our life, this imperial war, our boys [00:16:55] sailing off to see, so maintaining our our the the [00:16:59] remnance of our colonies is important to the functioning of british imperialism, so they [00:17:03] will defend their sovereignty, but united states has [00:17:07] made several plays of showing it wants to control the whole hemisphere, and you if these [00:17:11] if the falklands fall to to to Argentina [00:17:14] then in reality they they will fall under the tighter control the United States and [00:17:18] I think that may well be in the interest of Israel, [00:17:20] so despite the fact is an Israeli company that's doing the drilling [00:17:24] currently if the [00:17:26] you know Argentine claim to the Falklands is respected, I [00:17:29] think historically they do have a right to to [00:17:33] to to the Forkl islands, Britain has no more right to it than it does over [00:17:36] you know the Diego. garcia base which they split as British Indian Ocean territory [00:17:40] from from their their former uh [00:17:44] colony in in the [00:17:45] in the pacific sorry [00:17:46] in the Indian Ocean so these these are kind they are mixed historical claim but of [00:17:50] course the way in which different imperial powers pursue them reveals something about the [00:17:54] relations between those powers so I think there's a slight dispute between Trump as there is over [00:17:57] Greenland over the sovereignty the whole of that continent and [00:18:01] Israel they have very close relationship with the Malay government so I think their [00:18:05] oil interest fundamentally won't be a if the [00:18:08] territory, if the sovereignty of those islands passes back to to [00:18:12] Argentina, but historically Argentina has a right to the [00:18:15] Falklands, no indeed, which is only what couple hundred mis off the [00:18:19] Argentinian coast is supposed to be 800 miles away from the [00:18:22] United Kingdom, but David, I mean we just spoke didn't [00:18:26] we about the the chief rabbi, but number of Jewish [00:18:30] communal organizations in the UK have also condemned [00:18:33] milliman's limited sanctions, I mean this seems to be further. [00:18:37] evidence doesn't it, that that these groups prioritize Israel's interests [00:18:41] over Britain's interests, over Britain's interests. Well, that's right, I mean [00:18:45] the the science movement does that, that's they they [00:18:48] see the interest of what they call Israel as being paramoun, so it's not a [00:18:52] question of dual loyalty, I mean it's often said that we are doubting their [00:18:56] loyalty to Britain and they have a dual loyalty, no they don't have dual [00:19:00] loyalty, they have a singular loyalty [00:19:02] and that is the loyalty to the genocide in the levant, [00:19:05] look what what's also going on here. "I think people um [00:19:09] mistaking uh what's happening in terms the [00:19:12] the the the the theater of this, yes of course this is theater, of course these are not [00:19:16] serious sanctions, but of course we can also say I think that the [00:19:20] response the zionists to this [00:19:23] theater has its own theatrical dimensions, so for for example what's [00:19:27] happened is that they have banned 12 British people [00:19:31] from uh entering the the colony uh and they are uh something [00:19:35] like I think it's six uh labor" former labor mps including Jeremy [00:19:39] Corbin and [00:19:41] uh uh and others and of course they've [00:19:44] also banned five green MPs along with a [00:19:48] lawyer um the uh the lawyer who has [00:19:52] been involved in uh the case for the [00:19:55] deprescription of Hamas so that's that's kind [00:19:59] of interesting that that's happened of course it's a batch of honor for them to be banned in this [00:20:03] way but it's not a serious uh issue nor [00:20:07] is the uh closure the UK consul British [00:20:10] consulate east Jerusalem, of course that's intended to hurt the [00:20:13] Palestinians as opposed to anyone else, they've not councelled any contracts, [00:20:17] they're not seeking to rip up the massive agreements they have to uh [00:20:21] to uh penetrate and get contracts with the national health service [00:20:25] etc etc [00:20:26] so that it's not that's not serious, but so what what is [00:20:30] going on given the the communal organizations are saying that this is [00:20:33] terrible, it's the worst amount of due hatred they've seen for. [00:20:37] whatever [00:20:38] it is, the last week or the last month or whatever else that they say, so [00:20:41] what what is happening here though is of course that these [00:20:45] sanctions by imposed by the zionists are [00:20:49] simply a... small part their response, we saw [00:20:53] another part their response before the measure was introduced, and that is the more [00:20:57] serious level their response, and that of course was the [00:21:00] the uh the march by what we refer to in the press [00:21:04] is black shirts in Dover, now those are [00:21:07] those um far right people, I suppose the they're called, these [00:21:11] were marching to pursue the interests the state of [00:21:15] Israel, and they were of course funded through this guy Danny tomo, [00:21:18] former uh... bouncer for Tommy Robinson, [00:21:22] Tel Aviv Tommy uh funded by the Middle East [00:21:26] forum in the US, one the key think tanks in the Islamophobia [00:21:29] network funded by Zyanis Funders as as are all the rest the Islamophobia [00:21:33] network in the US, so what we're seeing here is the just [00:21:37] like we have with the the riots after South Pole is that the zionists put [00:21:41] their tanks on the lawn as well as having sort [00:21:45] theatrical counter sanctions and this is a warning to the British [00:21:48] state to go no further. uh uh or the or or [00:21:52] race war will be launched by the zionists in the [00:21:56] UK, that's what's really going on [00:21:57] there, return if i [00:22:01] may to uh edvan's motivation for [00:22:05] uh the announcement that he he made, i think we're agree there was a degree of [00:22:09] performative politics going on there, but i'm just interested in [00:22:13] your take on the on the reaction uh [00:22:16] to is very limited um sanctions that... he has [00:22:20] announced, mean you think that looking at some the [00:22:24] hysterical headlines and the response from the zanist [00:22:27] lobby that that britain had declared war [00:22:31] on on Israel, what do you make the [00:22:34] reaction to milliban's [00:22:36] announcement in the [00:22:38] in the corporate media and in the wider zianist lobby? well the [00:22:42] corporate media is just the reflection of what they're told to [00:22:45] report by the zionists themselves, who are their main [00:22:49] sources? of course there are zins inside the media corporations and [00:22:53] key roles in almost all the corporations, some them of course are [00:22:57] explicitly zionist corporations including the telegraph's new owners [00:23:01] who who fly is really flags outside their offices, [00:23:04] so uh but what the designers do is that they they go [00:23:08] absolutely crazy at the least possible criticism in order to make [00:23:12] it look like they're really serious about this, but that's what they [00:23:15] do, and of course in order to push back again you [00:23:19] have to... ignored this and you have to understand that this is all [00:23:23] performance, they are performative, so when we say that the sanctions [00:23:27] are performative, they are like performative to to to the [00:23:30] end degree because they go absolutely crazy over something which is not really very serious [00:23:34] at all, no indeed and range, what's your [00:23:38] take on the on the response from the corporate media and and the [00:23:41] zinish lobby? yeah, I'm in total agreement, [00:23:45] that they're not serious measures, but if you react in a way that makes them [00:23:49] seem oh... beyond the pale on the one hand, you you're pushing the scale [00:23:52] back to make sure no serious measures are taken against Israel, on the other hand you [00:23:56] make them seem like much more than they really are, and in that way you [00:23:59] hand, edmiller band and the new leaders of [00:24:03] the labour party some kind of credentials for being pro- [00:24:06] palestine, which reassures their core votes, think a lot of [00:24:10] it is about protecting labor electorally from the rising [00:24:14] greens, so you know, [00:24:15] i have concerns about the greens, because you all know as do that the greens [00:24:19] also adopted the IHRA definition of anti-semitism, which [00:24:23] essentially ensures that they never take serious criticism of [00:24:26] Israel and [00:24:27] that they discipline any their members who are serious critics of Israel, so despite the fact they got [00:24:31] a groundswell of people who used to be in labor pursuing a pro-palestine [00:24:35] anti-war anti-genocide policy who've now gone to the greens, they've [00:24:39] adopted resolution which stops them from pursuing that and they've got a serious fight on their hands [00:24:43] trying to get rid of that, and i wonder whether they're going to be up to the task, but [00:24:46] electorally and on the on the [00:24:49] on the on the front... cover, it shows all labor is returning to its [00:24:52] position of justice and it makes people for real shore, many people, 10 million [00:24:56] people have marched in solidarity with Palestine, and they want to feel [00:25:00] that, politics somehow reflects them, so you have to sometimes make a [00:25:04] concession to reality to make it look as if we've recognized that, we've dealt with [00:25:08] it, now everything's fine, and lot of people will be lulled by that because that's what they [00:25:11] see. yes, now indeed, although just to be fair to [00:25:15] the to the green party, there is motion before the conference next month I [00:25:19] believe, which will stipulate if it's pass that the [00:25:23] zinism is indeed racism, so we'll have to see how [00:25:26] that pans out, mean there [00:25:28] was an attempt to to pass that motion at an online [00:25:31] conference in the spring, but that got phillybusted by the by the [00:25:35] zianist membership the uh green party at that time, but [00:25:39] anyway that'll be one to what to watch, but props finally david bause we are [00:25:43] quite short of times i may not get chance to ask a further question to [00:25:46] ranji, but mean talking about the response, [00:25:50] Israel threatened, didn't they reprisals against [00:25:54] these these sanctions and just two and a half hours [00:25:57] after miliban's announcement, british air traffic control [00:26:01] suffered an hours outage that affected around 2000 [00:26:05] flights to and from London airports, I mean was that [00:26:08] coincidence, I mean could Israel have had something [00:26:11] to to do with it, indeed [00:26:12] do they even have the capability to have inflicted [00:26:16] such inconvenience, well look, I don't know if they have the [00:26:19] capability, it wouldn't surprise me if they did, it wouldn't be surprised me [00:26:23] either if they were involved, but we don't have [00:26:26] any evidence of that so far, I mean I think what we do know is that they are [00:26:29] threatening all sorts of activities, one of course. is the the black [00:26:33] shirts on the streets in dover, that's absolutely caused by the zionists and [00:26:37] marshal by the zionis and part their strategy to threaten the british state, that's what they [00:26:41] do every time there's a possibility, last time the creation the [00:26:45] recognition the palestinian state, they launched rights, race rights after the [00:26:48] southport incident, so that that's what that's what they do, that's their [00:26:52] strategy, but the the other thing to say of course is that [00:26:55] we've seen attacks in this country recently, alleged [00:26:59] anti-semitic attacks, new pro [00:27:03] Iranian terror group [00:27:05] was was launched and did attacks in Greece and France and Belgium and the Netherlands and then [00:27:09] of course in the UK and the purpose of that [00:27:13] operation run by the zines of course was to launch false flag [00:27:17] operations which didn't actually hurt any Jewish people but which looked like they [00:27:21] were serious anti-semitic attacks but which would have the result of [00:27:24] reallocating resources from the British state to organized [00:27:28] jury and of course also passing the uh the banning the prescription the [00:27:32] rgc that that's what they're doing and of course it's also been threats [00:27:36] from the reform Jewish alliance which is led by guy [00:27:40] called gary mond who was so racist that he was expelled from the board of [00:27:43] deputies [00:27:44] and he's been more or less threatening armed terror [00:27:48] attacks by design [00:27:49] so that's the kind of thing which they're thinking of no indeed absolutely [00:27:52] something that we need to be very vigilant about but I'm afraid that's all we got [00:27:56] time for today so I'd like to thank our guest Ranjit Braw and of course our resident [00:28:00] expert David Miller if you want to support this you can follow us on x, [00:28:03]
