[00:00:12] leave, there being no room for [00:00:16] Luís Neves removed the Secretary General of Internal Administration, [00:00:19] Ricardo Carrilho, who was dismissed [00:00:22] this [00:00:25] that when an individual makes a request to morning. A police intervention ended a camp in the center of Porto, the [00:00:27] protest for the right to housing still has [00:00:30] not demobilized, [00:00:32] farmers are on the streets in protest, demanding more support to boost [00:00:36] competitiveness. [00:00:39] This is the biggest package of sanctions from the European Union to Russia, [00:00:42] against 1600 people and [00:00:45] entities. The afternoon news will begin on RTP-1, [00:00:49] RTP Notícias, RTP [00:00:51] The attacks by Houthi rebels on África, and RTP [00:00:52] Mundo. [00:01:11] Hello, good afternoon. The Secretary General of Internal Administration, [00:01:15] Ricardo Carrilho, was removed by Luís Neves. The [00:01:18] minister assures that this is an internal reorganization, but [00:01:22] it happens after the newspaper Expresso revealed irreconcilable [00:01:25] differences between the two regarding the control of the [00:01:28] Sirespe network. [00:01:31] The relationship between the Minister of Internal Administration and the Secretary [00:01:34] General of the Ministry must have reached a breaking point, [00:01:38] this is what Expresso reports and adds that this will be [00:01:41] the explanation for Ricardo Carrilho's departure from [00:01:44] office. The newspaper says there are total disagreements [00:01:48] about the control of the Siresp network, the state's [00:01:51] ability to guarantee supervision and know the [00:01:54] operational results of the company. Attention, this [00:01:57] consequence was revealed this morning. It didn't take long, [00:02:01] the ministry released a note in which it formalizes the admission of the [00:02:04] Secretary General. The text omits this [00:02:07] conflict. In a statement, the ministry [00:02:10] explains the removal with the reorganization of the General Secretariat [00:02:14] and the provision of a new organic structure of [00:02:17] procedures appropriate to the responsibilities of the ministry, [00:02:21] giving a new direction to the management of the [00:02:24] service. But Expresso speaks of internal [00:02:27] documents that reveal maximum tension in the Ministry of [00:02:31] Internal Administration show a rupture with [00:02:34] accusations of inaction by the minister, two [00:02:37] months ago, a complaint with urgent character to the [00:02:41] Attorney General's Office and another to the [00:02:44] the Minister of Agriculture General Inspectorate of Internal Administration. There were [00:02:47] warnings of risks to human lives and accusations of [00:02:51] illegalities in the processing of public [00:02:54] money. The still Secretary General refused to [00:02:57] validate a transfer of 26 million euros to the [00:03:01] integrated system of emergency and security networks, [00:03:05] claiming that Ciresp did not give him access to the indicators that would allow him to [00:03:08] validate it, but the minister requested an internal [00:03:11] legal opinion to validate it and assures that the system [00:03:15] has no problems. Before that, he had already ordered the [00:03:19] General Inspectorate of Internal Administration to conduct an audit of the [00:03:22] Secretary General, reorganization, reform of [00:03:25] structure or divergences and disagreements [00:03:28] centered on the network of... communications of the Portuguese state that connects [00:03:32] police, medical emergencies and civil protection [00:03:35] agents. [00:03:38] More than 150 farmers [00:03:40] uhm, gathered this morning next to parliament to demand support [00:03:43] measures, they are asking for 140 million euros for the sector. Farmers [00:03:46] complain about loss [00:03:49] October 12th and 13th, to of competitiveness, they talk about the deterioration of production [00:03:53] conditions, they warn that many products may start to [00:03:57] euros in Spain, the fail. The food basket [00:04:00] has almost everything and almost everything is [00:04:03] not too much, but production, say the [00:04:09] different things to change what is happening in forced the protesters this morning to farmers, is starting to fail and they feel and complain about the loss of competitiveness, [00:04:13] they want 140 million euros to give new life [00:04:17] to the sector, there is a very serious crisis of the [00:04:20] increase in production factors, the government has not reacted [00:04:24] adequately to this crisis, what [00:04:27] we came here for is to alert the parties, especially at a [00:04:30] time when the state budget is being discussed, that [00:04:34] measures are needed to maintain the competitiveness of Portuguese [00:04:37] agriculture, what we want is not [00:04:40] subsidies, what we want is for Portuguese [00:04:43] farmers to be able to compete with [00:04:46] farmers from other countries. The request for aid and support was [00:04:50] made at parliament by more than 150 producers [00:04:54] from all over the country who wanted to deliver their [00:04:57] demands to the President of [00:05:02] the Republic, to the political parties, and we hope that now they will listen to us. Even if they [00:05:05] only listen to us, this is the beginning of a struggle that takes its first [00:05:09] step here today. We came here in an orderly manner, as [00:05:12] associative leaders, we hope that this will be enough, otherwise count [00:05:15] on us, we will not stop until [00:05:19] we have competitive conditions. I would like to point out here [00:05:22] that the trade balance is collapsing, the agricultural trade balance [00:05:26] with Spain, we are importing more [00:05:30] products from Spain and exporting less and small farmers are [00:05:33] the most vulnerable here. The difference with what is happening in [00:05:37] Spain was inevitable, the [00:05:39] support for the demand for more funds. It is given by the European [00:05:43] Commission itself, if it is the European Commission itself that [00:05:47] says: we are facing an exceptionally serious [00:05:51] crisis, and therefore we, the European Commission, [00:05:54] authorize member states to support their [00:05:57] farmers to a certain percentage, it is not [00:06:00] understandable that the Portuguese government does not do this, this is [00:06:04] incomprehensible for us and there is the other [00:06:07] side, on the other side are those who need the food [00:06:10] basket, which is increasingly expensive. [00:06:37] where farmers will deliver the demand for 140 [00:06:41] million in support for... Portuguese agriculture, they are [00:06:44] still here guarding the stairs of the [00:06:47] Republic Assembly, after having delivered these [00:06:50] demands also to the parties, to PSD, PS, Il [00:06:54] and Chega and CDS, I have Luís Mira [00:06:58] with me, the Secretary General of the Confederation of Farmers of Portugal, what are the [00:07:01] greatest difficulties faced by farmers that bring you [00:07:04] here? The greatest difficulties are the [00:07:07] competition with Spanish products, because they [00:07:10] have a set of conditions that we don't have, [00:07:14] then this is reflected in a much greater sale of [00:07:18] Spanish products in Portugal than our ability [00:07:21] to sell them in Spain. What is at stake is the [00:07:25] competitiveness of Portuguese agriculture to produce these products that we have here, which are [00:07:29] symbolic but clearly demonstrate that these associative leaders [00:07:32] who are here are from all over the country, they represent more than [00:07:36] 200,000 farmers. This is the beginning of a [00:07:39] protest that can only be changed if the government [00:07:42] meets our demands. If that doesn't [00:07:46] happen, then we have to continue, eh, farmers [00:07:49] are persistent and count on us if they don't give us [00:07:52] competitive conditions, what we came to ask for is [00:07:56] by no means a reason to put the [00:07:59] state accounts at risk, we have [00:08:03] great consideration for that, it's not 140 million euros that [00:08:07] will spoil the government's accounts. This is for a [00:08:10] government that last week... came to say that it was [00:08:14] willing to enter the capital of a bank to avoid the [00:08:17] entry of a Spanish partner, so here you have a sector, avoid [00:08:21] the "Spanishization" of agriculture, give the [00:08:25] value that is needed to be competitive, that's what we are here to [00:08:28] do, uhum, you brought this series of products [00:08:32] in cork baskets, why did you choose [00:08:34] these products to bring here? These are [00:08:38] products in which we are world leaders, such as cork, but if they don't give us [00:08:42] conditions, then we stop being leaders. Here you have wine, [00:08:46] olive oil, cheese, fruits, vegetables, only the trade balance [00:08:49] of fruits and vegetables with Spain is negative by 400 [00:08:53] million in the first semester of this year alone, this says [00:08:56] it all, if the government does not have the [00:08:59] sensitivity to understand that from an economic point of view this is [00:09:02] extremely serious and that we are jeopardizing an entire production [00:09:06] capacity, then it understood nothing and should not come with arguments that this puts the [00:09:10] accounts at risk because it is not true, and this basket will be... Offering baskets [00:09:14] was part of what we left here at parliament and what we are going [00:09:17] to do also with the Prime Minister at the residence [00:09:21] now, eh, to symbolize exactly the products we are here [00:09:25] fighting for, you say that these products are at risk because of the [00:09:28] lack of government support, products like this, competitive [00:09:32] conditions, that's what we came here to fight for, they are competitive [00:09:35] conditions, it's necessary for things [00:09:38] to be done, and support is needed when there is [00:09:41] a reason for it, and farmers supported this government and [00:09:45] now it is necessary to reciprocate, [00:09:48] no, there was no minimum consideration [00:09:52] for the agricultural sector and that's why we are here in an [00:09:55] orderly, civilized way to draw attention [00:09:58] to this, it's in the government's hands to solve this issue, it's simple, and will [00:10:01] you manage to be received by the prime minister, do you know this? We're going to leave the document, the prime [00:10:05] minister is not waiting for us there obviously, but we're going to leave the document to the services [00:10:09] and anyway, these are political and symbolic acts. [00:10:12] Certainly the prime minister, also because of the [00:10:15] reports that were made here, will know what happened here. Thank you, [00:10:19] Luís Mira, secretary general of the Confederation of Farmers [00:10:22] of Portugal, here showing... baskets and these are [00:10:26] the products eh that the farmers choose to bring here [00:10:30] to the door of the assembly of the Republic to show that [00:10:33] to continue producing these products, government [00:10:36] support is needed, they ask for 140 million [00:10:40] euros in funding to support agriculture, [00:10:43] they complain about the lack of competitiveness with European [00:10:46] countries. Inês Batista, RTP reporter at [00:10:49] parliament, this protest catches the Minister of Agriculture in Arcos [00:10:53] de Valdevez, José. Manuel Fernandes participates in a debate on the future of [00:10:57] the territory, good afternoon, Silvana Cunha, have you already responded to this [00:11:00] demand from [00:11:01] farmers? [00:11:05] Right upon arrival, Hélder, good afternoon, he arrived a few [00:11:08] minutes ago here in Arcos de Vale de Vez, José Manuel Fernandes [00:11:12] will close this seminar on extensive [00:11:15] pastoralism. He responded yes [00:11:18] to these requests and these complaints from farmers, [00:11:22] what the minister essentially does is... stop the investments [00:11:25] he has made in agriculture in recent years [00:11:28] and says that more money, those [00:11:32] 140 million only in [00:11:34] 2027, in fact, he even says that [00:11:38] he recognizes that there are indeed farmers facing [00:11:41] difficulties, but he also says that there are many others [00:11:44] who receive support and have the conditions to continue [00:11:48] their activity. The Minister of Agriculture reacting [00:11:52] here while this [00:11:55] protest is still ongoing. Let's listen to José Manuel [00:11:57] Fernandes. What I told them is very [00:12:01] clear, we increased the farmer's income by more than [00:12:05] 200 million euros per year, which we did at the right [00:12:09] time, with criticism from the Socialist [00:12:13] Party and Chega, and now for [00:12:16] 2027, but the approval is now [00:12:19] and we cannot make that anticipation because it is a [00:12:23] possibility that the regulation gives us. There will be an additional [00:12:26] 162 million euros for income [00:12:29] support and I insisted on an obvious [00:12:32] point, we had a train of storms, there was an additional [00:12:36] effort of 250 million euros from the state budget [00:12:39] also eh from European funds worth 200 [00:12:43] million, I did not mention the credit lines, where the credit [00:12:46] lines with our guarantees in [00:12:49] 2026 this year are also already more than 430 million [00:12:53] euros, we are doing our maximum. But I understand that there are farmers in [00:12:56] difficulty, but unfortunately, I will tell you [00:13:00] this, those who are in the greatest difficulties are those who have less [00:13:03] voice, [00:13:09] recognizing that there are farmers in difficulties and [00:13:12] assuring, he even said that everything possible is being [00:13:16] done, everything possible is being done to help these farmers [00:13:20] who are today next to the Republic Assembly and José Manuel Fernandes [00:13:24] also found. here at the entrance of the Arts Center of Arcos de Valdevez [00:13:27] another protest, a union of cattle breeders here asking [00:13:31] also for a solution to the wolf [00:13:35] attacks on their animals and saying that [00:13:38] they need urgent help also in this field and José Manuel Fernandes stayed here for a few [00:13:42] minutes talking to these shepherds and telling them that [00:13:45] he is also giving special attention to this area where these [00:13:49] wolf attacks are very frequent [00:13:53] and the shepherds had... here in contact then with the minister, with [00:13:56] some posters and doing a small demonstration, taking advantage of the [00:14:00] trip here to Arcos de Val de Vez, as I said, the Minister of [00:14:04] Agriculture at this time is closing this seminar [00:14:07] on extensive pastoralism. Silva [00:14:10] na Cunha, RTP reporter live from Arcos de [00:14:13] Valdevez, it is worth contextualizing the [00:14:16] demand made by Portuguese farmers, they [00:14:19] lose 140 million [00:14:22] difference goes far beyond the... [00:14:25] territory, farmers received 1.100 [00:14:28] million euros in government support. The police [00:14:32] remove the 50 tents placed in Praça Dom João I [00:14:36] in Porto. The protest for the right to housing began on [00:14:39] Saturday. [00:14:42] The protest for the right to housing gathered hundreds [00:14:45] of people and more than 50 tents in Praça Dom João Primeiro [00:14:49] in Porto since Saturday. A peaceful [00:14:52] demonstration that surprised everyone. In the early hours [00:14:56] of the morning, with the intervention of the municipal [00:14:58] police, the police arrived, initially they had informed that [00:15:02] we could keep the food that was kindly donated by many institutions [00:15:06] and even restaurants and we had to remove the tent, eh, [00:15:10] later on eh eh they ended up [00:15:13] telling us that eh they were going to start removing the tents and many [00:15:16] tents are there, they were removed with belongings, there was no justification, [00:15:20] the justification is that I genuinely believe that there was already [00:15:24] a massive popular power happening, perhaps it was [00:15:28] bothering someone because everything we did and it was visible yesterday, there was [00:15:32] an open popular assembly for everyone, people came here, gave [00:15:35] their ideas, gave their... stories and felt heard for the first [00:15:39] time instead of voting every four years for a party that then doesn't keep its [00:15:43] promises, municipal police would not have a mandate to [00:15:46] touch our things, municipal police asked us to remove our [00:15:50] tents, we were doing it in an orderly, calm way [00:15:54] and at the scene there were also teams from the Public Security Police [00:15:58] in a surveillance work without any intervention [00:16:01] having occurred, the camp arises as a consequence [00:16:04] of the demonstrations that took place throughout the country with... thousands of people [00:16:08] demanding changes in access to housing, I am [00:16:11] here because housing conditions in Portugal, in Porto and in Portugal [00:16:15] in general, have reached an absurd level where on [00:16:19] average the average salary is no longer enough to pay the rent for a T1 house in [00:16:23] Porto or Lisbon, we are here to protest the fact that [00:16:26] we are young, we want a country to live in, we want a country with living conditions [00:16:30] and above all we want to receive a decent salary and [00:16:33] we want to be able with that salary to have a home like everyone else. [00:16:37] I am a living example of this, young, working, I am currently paying [00:16:41] 890 € for a studio apartment and that makes [00:16:45] no sense, and now at this moment the laws that are to be approved in the [00:16:48] legislative assembly are absurd, there is [00:16:51] 400 and something left for us to pay for water, electricity, [00:16:55] internet, food, and how do we live, we [00:16:59] just survive. New protests are planned [00:17:02] by this civil society movement for the right to [00:17:05] housing, next... [00:17:17] in Porto, good afternoon, Sônia, even from the images it's clear [00:17:20] that the protesters have not [00:17:21] demobilized, [00:17:25] exactly, Elder, good afternoon, they have not demobilized and will [00:17:29] stay here at least until 7 in the evening, but [00:17:32] let me tell you that it was a [00:17:35] vote that happened during the morning, I would say that [00:17:39] some thought it would be better to go [00:17:43] home or to the place where they live and return [00:17:47] only on Wednesday and in this [00:17:50] case it was a majority decision, João [00:17:52] they decided to stay here until [00:17:56] 7 PM, but you were also advised by the [00:17:59] PSP, which has since demobilized, and you were advised [00:18:02] at least not to put up tents at this time. [00:18:06] Yes, exactly. So, we'll stay until 7:30 PM, until 7, yes, [00:18:10] exactly, at 7:30 PM, we'll also have where we'll have the [00:18:13] assembly, we'll also have food for the people who show up, with dinner [00:18:17] and everything else, we just won't have tents as advised by the [00:18:21] police. In some way you will prepare [00:18:24] what you are going to do [00:18:28] on Wednesday, what I ask you is, eh, is [00:18:31] there any, are you thinking of some way to reach the President of the Republic, [00:18:35] to reach the Prime Minister, well, they... must already know about these [00:18:38] demonstrations, but any open letter? Eh, at [00:18:42] this moment, no, it is actually being decided, there was already, well, there are several, we want to know what [00:18:46] spin viva is, spin not viva is what we want to know, [00:18:49] I also worked at Sol Verde, we want to know, [00:18:53] basically, to talk about, we wanted [00:18:56] to do a petition also, but it's something that takes some work to start [00:19:00] planning, but we will do that this afternoon hopefully, very good, [00:19:03] and I also ask you and that on [00:19:07] Wednesday then you will [00:19:10] all be here and [00:19:14] it is difficult to gather young people here and not only young [00:19:18] people in this protest, yes, we already knew that on [00:19:21] Monday it would be more complicated because in fact there are people working and [00:19:25] we are many workers, aren't we, even students nowadays have to work [00:19:28] with the increase in the cost of living, eh, [00:19:31] but even so there are a lot of people here, there are [00:19:35] still some people here who will try to organize everything. So that when people leave [00:19:38] work they can organize here, very well, thank you very much, João, eh, [00:19:42] well, it has been a relatively calm morning, Elder, from [00:19:45] time to time, eh, someone appears here [00:19:48] with very personal problems, eh, also housing [00:19:52] problems, fundamentally, but also related to the cost [00:19:56] of living, many criticisms and also to say that the [00:20:00] tenants' association eh does [00:20:03] not say that it cannot be represented here, so to speak, [00:20:06] officially. It is in solidarity, it will participate in the [00:20:09] demonstration eh on the 14th, eh, but for [00:20:13] now what is being asked here is also for political [00:20:16] parties to join and take this protest [00:20:20] even further. Tónia Silva, RDP reporter live from [00:20:24] Praça Dom João II in Porto, where [00:20:27] approximately 50 tents were removed [00:20:31] this morning, but the demonstration will continue on site until later this [00:20:34] afternoon. It's rising by more than [00:20:38] one percent, the price of Brand, which serves as a reference for Europe, moments ago, the [00:20:42] barrel of oil was trading slightly above [00:20:45] 106. [00:20:47] At gas stations, fuel prices are moving in [00:20:51] opposite directions, gasoline increases by 4.5 cents per liter while [00:20:54] diesel decreases by half a cent, the price trend [00:20:57] continues to be conditioned by the instability in the Middle [00:21:01] East. [00:21:07] Well, it may be the interview of an announced return. Pedro Passos [00:21:11] Coelho admits to returning to political life if the PSD falls into [00:21:14] disgrace. [00:21:19] The Pope is expected to be admitted tomorrow and operated on next Wednesday. [00:21:22] The Vatican continues to say that it is not known whether the tumor detected in the [00:21:26] lung is benign or malignant. Only after [00:21:30] having that information will it be known if Pope Leo XIV will [00:21:33] need complementary [00:21:34] treatments. [00:21:37] It was a gray dawn in St. Peter's Square, after the [00:21:41] Pope himself disclosed that he has a nodule in his lung in a [00:21:45] transparency hitherto unusual in the [00:21:48] Vatican. He is a Pope of American format, [00:21:51] very very practical in what concerns the issues of his life [00:21:55] and then a man with much universal experience of his [00:21:59] journey and who understands that truth and [00:22:02] transparency in what is the fragility of Peter's [00:22:06] successor is something that must be fully assumed and known by [00:22:09] all, and what we witnessed in the past regarding diseases [00:22:13] and regarding operations, regarding ailments, which was always all very [00:22:17] guarded, all very reserved, we are seeing [00:22:20] that this has ended. The tumor is believed to have been discovered because, when Leo [00:22:24] XIV returned from his visit to France, he presented signs of [00:22:28] respiratory infection, it was the exams taken for this [00:22:31] reason that revealed the existence of the nodule. The [00:22:35] Vatican has not yet confirmed, but Leo 14 is expected to be hospitalized [00:22:38] this Tuesday and the operation performed on [00:22:41] Wednesday, and only then will it be known if there are reasons for [00:22:45] concern, but there are positive indicators. In the [00:22:48] event that the nodule is indeed malignant, lung [00:22:52] cancer, the fact that it is localized, the truth is that [00:22:55] surgery in these situations, which we do not know if that is the case here, is [00:22:59] often the only treatment that is necessary. Even [00:23:03] so, only the analysis of the removed tissues will [00:23:06] determine if more treatments will be needed. As for [00:23:10] recovery, this Pope also has characteristics that [00:23:13] are favorable. As the Pope is a 71-year-old man, [00:23:17] but active, as far as we know, not a smoker. He swims, he [00:23:21] plays tennis, the truth is that surgery nowadays, [00:23:24] being minimally invasive, often allows people [00:23:28] to recover quickly and, on the other hand, whoever undergoes this type of [00:23:32] surgery, the faster they return to their normal life and become [00:23:36] active, leave home, walk, even exercise, [00:23:38] the better it will be, a recovery that [00:23:42] will have a lot of [00:23:43] support. [00:23:53] We certainly wish [00:23:55] a good recovery, a quick recovery to the Holy Father [00:23:59] and certainly the whole Church is praying for [00:24:02] him. [00:24:06] On November 6th, he will be traveling to Latin America, then [00:24:10] he hopes to recover quickly and [00:24:13] well. The surgery is believed to have been brought forward, precisely [00:24:16] to ensure that the Pope does not miss his trip [00:24:20] to Peru. The Pope's health ends up [00:24:24] marking the October ceremonies in Fatima. Carolina, good [00:24:28] afternoon. [00:24:32] Good afternoon, the Sanctuary of Fatima invites those who come to [00:24:36] participate in the celebrations of [00:24:39] pray for the Pope's health. It is already customary [00:24:43] that in the intentions in the history of this [00:24:46] sanctuary, the Pope is always present. [00:24:50] But this time with a specific prayer for the [00:24:53] recovery of Leo XIV. We will ask [00:24:56] the director of the Department of Liturgy, at what moments will this prayer [00:25:00] happen? This prayer, in this special [00:25:04] circumstance of the Pope's health, this prayer takes [00:25:07] place during the universal prayer [00:25:10] in the Eucharistic celebrations and also during the [00:25:13] mysteries of the rosary that are prayed here every day, [00:25:17] as has been the case throughout the [00:25:21] year, there is always the concern to accompany the life, the ministry and also [00:25:24] the health of the Holy Father. This time [00:25:27] more specifically, not only today and tomorrow, but also extended [00:25:31] throughout the week, yes, we will be praying for the Holy Father, [00:25:35] in this circumstance of his health and accompanying him until [00:25:38] his much desired recovery for all of us. [00:25:42] Personally, how did the priest receive this news? Always with [00:25:46] concern, because we live here in the sanctuary of... [00:25:50] especially very intensely the whole life of the church and no doubt [00:25:53] also the life and ministry of the Pope, in this case our Pope Leo [00:25:57] 14, in fact, it was unexpected news [00:26:01] because we always see him looking good and in good health, [00:26:04] and in fact this announcement made by him [00:26:08] yesterday certainly left us worried, but at the [00:26:11] same time confident that we are on time and that Our Lady of [00:26:15] Fátima, who always took such care to ask the [00:26:19] little shepherds and pilgrims to pray for the Holy Father and [00:26:23] also to accompany him in this moment of his life, [00:26:26] maintains therefore the hope of a possible visit of the Pope to Fátima next year. The [00:26:30] invitation has been made, of course, we still [00:26:32] have no news, but we know that the Holy Father has even [00:26:36] maintained the agenda of other visits to [00:26:39] other countries that are already scheduled and, therefore, [00:26:43] we await the announcement, so to speak, [00:26:47] and we maintain the hope of the possibility of the Holy Father [00:26:51] visiting us once again here at the Sanctuary of [00:26:54] Fátima in our country. Thank you very much, so hope, a [00:26:58] word that marks this comment, at a [00:27:01] time when... Fátima also prays for the [00:27:04] Pope's health in this October pilgrimage, which [00:27:08] is the last one that closes the cycle of the great [00:27:11] international anniversary pilgrimages that begin in May [00:27:15] and end now in October. Carolina [00:27:17] Ferreira, RTP reporter live from [00:27:20] Fátima. Pedro Passos Coelho admits returning to [00:27:24] political life if the PSD is not successful. The former [00:27:27] prime minister argues that the party had an obligation to have tried an agreement [00:27:31] with Chega. And with the Liberal Initiative in an interview with Sic [00:27:35] Notícias, Passos Coelho says that the government has been slow to advance with reforms [00:27:38] and praises André [00:27:40] Ventura. [00:27:43] For several years he chose silence so as not to harm the [00:27:46] party, to which he says he remains emotionally and [00:27:50] uninhibitedly connected. Pedro Passos Coelho denies seeking [00:27:54] prominence, but does not close the door to an eventual return to active [00:27:58] politics. If I had to consider such a [00:28:01] possibility, I would like to respond to a situation in which the PSD, visibly, [00:28:05] did not have the possibility of delivering a [00:28:08] satisfactory result for what the [00:28:12] country needs, and I believe I could [00:28:15] do it. If that happens, I will consider it and [00:28:18] take action, if necessary. He says the country has plunged [00:28:22] into day-to-day management and insists on the need for [00:28:25] reforms. He acknowledges that the current parliamentary geometry is [00:28:28] complex, but says that the PSD should have tried [00:28:31] solutions to ensure support for a program capable [00:28:35] of being implemented throughout the legislature. They put themselves in a [00:28:39] very complicated political trap, because now it's too late to [00:28:42] go back and try to make a legislative agreement that was [00:28:45] rejected. On the other hand, a good part [00:28:49] of the reforms that deserve that name, which are reforms and which [00:28:53] need popular support and which need parliamentary [00:28:55] support, probably don't have it. Is he making an appeal for them to understand each other? I think so, [00:28:59] because the responsibility [00:29:02] is not only of the PSD, it's because the country is not governable, the responsibility [00:29:05] here also has to be of Chega and of the [00:29:09] Liberal Initiative. What is your opinion about André Ventura? Do you know him well? I know [00:29:13] him enough to think that he is a person who has [00:29:16] a lot of merit, otherwise he wouldn't have created a party with the expression he [00:29:20] has today, and that he is a politician who has [00:29:24] shown a remarkable power of [00:29:27] initiative. Praises that reinforce the appeal for a [00:29:30] majority that gives the government with... [00:29:32] to move forward, criticizes the pace of changes and makes [00:29:36] comparisons. The PSD, no doubt, has a government [00:29:40] program that has some transformative ambition, but [00:29:43] this transformative ambition has been slow to [00:29:46] move from the government program to government actions and [00:29:50] to the reality of the country. For example, today I think the [00:29:54] state no longer has the authority to [00:29:57] rehabilitate the national health service as it needed to be rehabilitated. I saw [00:30:01] nothing change during the nine years of the socialist party in government, on the [00:30:05] contrary, there was degradation of public policy, I see nothing after 2 [00:30:08] years of essential, structuring, [00:30:12] health, problems that extend to housing and [00:30:15] schools. As for Belém, he says that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa [00:30:19] spoke too much and António José Seguro is being cautious, [00:30:22] assessments about a position that he says he does not [00:30:25] desire. [00:30:28] André Ventura says that the time for legislative agreements with the PSD has passed. [00:30:32] That is the response of the leader of Chega to Pedro Passos Coelho. Ventura agrees with the [00:30:36] former prime minister about the need for greater reformist unity on the [00:30:40] right, but reminds that it was not a no, it was from Luís [00:30:43] Montenegro. Frankly, that time has already [00:30:47] passed, the protagonists of the PSD at the time understood that it should [00:30:50] not be done, we respect that, life went on, so I think that [00:30:54] this criticism, which is fair from Pedro Passos Coelho, is certainly not for Chega. Chega was [00:30:58] available to build that majority which then, by decision... [00:31:15] as a partner, I think the government chose the PS as a partner, that is the [00:31:19] main criticism that Pedro Passos Coelho makes, I think he is right, there is a [00:31:23] large non-socialist majority today in Portugal in [00:31:26] parliament and this non-socialist majority is not [00:31:29] contributing to making the transformation that the country needed, there [00:31:33] Pedro Passos Coelho is absolutely right. André [00:31:36] Ventura is interviewed later today on RTP, an interview conducted by [00:31:39] journalist Vítor Gonçalves on the evening news on RTP [00:31:42] Notícias. It is a round of... interviews involving the government started on [00:31:46] Friday and the leaders of the opposition parties will take place throughout [00:31:50] this [00:31:51] week. [00:31:54] It was the second hottest September since records began, it was [00:31:58] 1.5 above pre-industrial levels and [00:32:01] prepare for a very hot [00:32:04] week. [00:32:08] The European Union today approved in Luxembourg sanctions against [00:32:11] 1,600 people and entities linked to Russia. The objective is [00:32:15] to limit Moscow's military capability at a time when Donald Trump [00:32:19] facilitates the sale of Russian diesel, the meeting of the [00:32:22] European foreign ministers is being followed by [00:32:26] Paulo Dentinho and Rui Manuel Silva. The European foreign [00:32:30] ministers are seeking in Luxembourg to tighten the grip [00:32:33] on Moscow. The meeting takes place after the announcement of a ceasefire to [00:32:36] Russian and Ukrainian energy infrastructures, but it is [00:32:40] yet to be [00:32:40] clarified. [00:32:45] "they will stop, because if they stop, Ukrainians also don't have [00:32:48] to, take any steps to defend that [00:32:52] country, and and that is what is all at [00:32:55] stake, so so this kind of deal, of course, [00:32:58] we hope that this sease fire will [00:33:01] hold, [00:33:05] what is certain is the approval of sanctions against some 1,600 people and [00:33:08] entities, more than half linked to the ballistic missile production [00:33:12] chain." I said that [00:33:16] it will make the bill that [00:33:19] Vladimir Putin pays in this colonial and [00:33:23] imperialist war that must imperatively [00:33:26] stop, heavier. The decision also comes in a context of hybrid [00:33:30] attacks attributed to Russia in European territory and contrasts with [00:33:33] the agreement between Trump and Putin that allows Moscow to once again sell diesel [00:33:37] in the American world markets. The approximation of [00:33:40] Washington to Moscow places Europeans before another [00:33:43] difficulty. It joins the recent tension caused [00:33:47] by American sanctions against the International Criminal [00:33:50] Court. For now, the Europeans reaffirm their support for [00:33:53] Kiev and ask the United States to increase pressure on Russia. [00:33:57] Paulo Denting Romoneão Silva, RTP, [00:33:59] Brussels. After the energy ceasefire [00:34:03] announced by Donald Trump, Russia bombed Kharkiv, the [00:34:07] target was a power plant, but the missiles ended up hitting a [00:34:10] grocery store. Three people died and 12 were [00:34:13] injured. It was another Russian attack to mark the [00:34:17] night, surveillance footage shows the moment when [00:34:20] a grocery store was hit by two [00:34:23] missiles. It happened in Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, [00:34:26] three people died and 12 were injured. Very [00:34:30] close by was a power plant. The attack happened [00:34:34] shortly after Donald Trump's announcement that an energy ceasefire was [00:34:37] in effect. [00:34:45] The man promises, like a great man, and where [00:34:48] is he great? What kind of words are these? They don't hit the [00:34:51] energy sector, but today four pieces [00:34:54] arrived, and one piece hit peaceful targets. [00:34:58] Well, I don't know, I have no words. We [00:35:02] hoped for a truce, but you see, it didn't [00:35:05] work out. [00:35:09] American energy ceasefire has been violated several times, the [00:35:13] complaint came from the Minister of Foreign Affairs. [00:35:25] from Trump, we really don't feel it, I think [00:35:28] that in the near future we should not expect it, after [00:35:32] all, we live in a state of war [00:35:35] and [00:35:38] to believe every word, well, at the international level, yes, about [00:35:42] Trump's agreement, who might have invented everything himself. [00:36:22] The President U [00:36:24] realization. [00:37:10] But despite the apparent will of both sides, the truth is that the end of the war in Ukraine seems to be [00:37:14] far away. [00:37:18] Riyadh airport in Saudi Arabia led several airlines to [00:37:22] cancel flights, a preventive measure after the bombings [00:37:26] against the airport facilities were repeated on Saturday and [00:37:39] and more than 300 were injured. The Houthis [00:37:43] claimed responsibility for the attack, increasing pressure in the Middle East. The United States [00:37:46] has been reinforcing its military presence in the region and does not rule out a [00:37:50] military intervention to end the [00:37:52] conflict. [00:37:58] Luís Neves removed the Secretary General of the Internal Administration, Ricardo Carrilho [00:38:02] was dismissed this morning. [00:38:05] A police intervention ended the encampment in the center [00:38:09] of Porto, the protest for the right to housing did not [00:38:11] demobilize. [00:38:15] Farmers are on the streets in protest, demanding more support [00:38:19] to feed competitiveness with [00:38:22] Spain. [00:38:25] It is the European Union's largest sanctions package. Association against [00:38:28] 1,600 people and [00:38:42] It happened again in Nepal, but on a smaller scale. A landslide [00:38:46] left over a hundred tourists stranded in several [00:38:49] locations. Flooding of a river in central Nepal destroyed [00:38:52] hiking trails and bridges. Yesterday [00:38:55] authorities rescued 96 people, including nine [00:38:58] foreigners in the Gorka district, about 100 [00:39:01] km west of Kathmandu. The landslide [00:39:04] blocked the Budigaki River, causing [00:39:08] floods. No fatalities were reported, but five [00:39:11] locals are unaccounted for. These [00:39:14] floods occur six weeks after the catastrophic landslide that [00:39:17] caused thousands of deaths [00:39:19] and disappearances. [00:39:22] The south coast of California was hit by high waves, it's [00:39:25] a tropical storm. As predicted by meteorological [00:39:29] services, it hit the Pacific coast with strong winds, [00:39:32] strong swell and power outages. Almost [00:39:36] 7,000 people are without electricity in [00:39:39] California. [00:39:42] September was the second hottest ever in [00:39:45] Europe. Average temperatures broke records in Western [00:39:49] Europe and also reached higher values [00:39:53] in extratropical [00:39:54] oceans. [00:39:58] The data was released this Monday by the climate change [00:40:02] service of the European program, Copernicus. In [00:40:05] September, the average global temperature was [00:40:08] 1.63°C above pre-industrial [00:40:12] levels. In much of Europe, the month was [00:40:15] exceptionally hot and dry. It was even the [00:40:19] second hottest ever in some regions of Western [00:40:22] Europe. Copernicus also highlights the exceptionally [00:40:25] high temperatures [00:40:28] at the sea surface in much of the tropical Pacific, where the [00:40:32] conditions associated with the El Niño phenomenon are [00:40:35] intensifying. In the El Niño region, the sea [00:40:38] surface temperature reached a record of [00:40:42] 29.70°C in September. [00:40:45] Record values for the month of September were also recorded in Europe along [00:40:48] the Atlantic coast and the western [00:40:51] Mediterranean. [00:40:53] Hot September and October also, in Portugal. [00:40:57] High temperatures will remain at least during this week, thermometers [00:41:01] can exceed 30 degrees. The district of [00:41:05] Castelo Branco, the district of Santarém, [00:41:08] Évora, Beja, it will be essentially here that temperatures [00:41:11] will be recorded between 28 maximum and could reach in some place or another [00:41:15] up to 33. At the weekend, temperatures [00:41:19] should drop, this is not the first time this [00:41:23] year that Copernicus reports temperature [00:41:26] records... August 2026 was the [00:41:29] hottest month ever recorded worldwide. [00:41:32] The president of Infarmed denies having [00:41:36] used his position to interfere in the scheduling of appointments at Santa [00:41:40] Maria hospital in Lisbon. This is the response from Rui Santos Silva, to the news advanced by [00:41:44] Correio da Manhã, that he had pulled strings for an oncology [00:41:47] appointment. To RTP, the president of Infarmed says he [00:41:51] only forwarded a contact received to the [00:41:54] responsible entity, in this case, Santa Maria. And he relies on article [00:41:57] 41 of the Administrative Procedure Code to justify the [00:42:01] action. This article states [00:42:05] a public administration body, which has or [00:42:08] does not have, incidentally, competence in that matter, it must officially [00:42:11] forward it to the correct [00:42:14] body. [00:42:16] In a few moments, news that the judicial police seized three tons of [00:42:20] cocaine that were being transported in speedboats. The operation [00:42:24] already has a name, it's called Marenostrum, it led to the dismantling of an [00:42:27] organized criminal network and resulted from the articulation with the Portuguese [00:42:31] navy, the maritime authority and the police authorities in [00:42:35] Spain and Italy. The vessel was detected 80 [00:42:38] miles off the coast in the area of Faro where three foreign [00:42:41] citizens were traveling, one of them died during the [00:42:45] operation. The judicial police has already called a press conference for [00:42:49] 4 p.m. to give additional explanations about this [00:42:52] operation. The Algarve is on the route of drug [00:42:56] traffickers, it is a point of supply for speedboats, [00:42:59] but also the gateway to Europe. There are networks [00:43:03] that rent houses on the Algarve coast to monitor the [00:43:06] movements of the police. [00:43:09] It's not new, but it's gaining more and more [00:43:12] strength in Portugal, the Algarve coast is part of the transit [00:43:16] route for logistical support to drug trafficking networks. The [00:43:20] networks are passing, let's say, off the coast of the Algarve, the maritime [00:43:24] trajectories and this also implies that on land there is logistical support, [00:43:27] namely fuel to supply the speedboats. In addition to this [00:43:31] logistical fuel support, there are other supports that are also established on land, there are [00:43:35] large trafficking networks, namely with origin in [00:43:38] Spain. The positioning of the Algarve in Europe is the factor that most [00:43:42] attracts drug traffickers, the Algarve and Portugal have a strategic position in [00:43:46] Europe, so it is here, if we look at Portugal, [00:43:49] it is a tip of Europe, an entrance gate to Europe, [00:43:53] so we have a privileged situation, a [00:43:56] privileged location in relation to Europe and with the [00:44:00] correlation with the Atlantic, along the Vicentina coast, both the [00:44:03] maritime police and the GNR, have detected some networks [00:44:07] that rent or... rent local [00:44:10] accommodation for this type of activity. These cases extend throughout the [00:44:14] Algarve. Populations are increasingly attentive and [00:44:18] concerned. This is the case of residents on Farol Island in [00:44:21] Faro, who suspect illicit use of [00:44:24] this old building. The authorities recognize the [00:44:28] potential interest of the property, but for now, rule out that [00:44:32] recent clandestine occupations are [00:44:35] linked to drug trafficking. Nevertheless, it is recognized that the [00:44:38] identified networks are becoming increasingly [00:44:41] dangerous. There has been a very important transformation, which [00:44:45] was the change from hashish trafficking to cocaine trafficking, the quantities [00:44:49] are substantially higher, here we are talking about 20 or [00:44:53] 25 times higher than they were a few years ago and the [00:44:56] frequency. Many Spanish vehicles have already been caught, war weapons also seized, war [00:45:00] weapons seized eh at [00:45:02] situations that indicated, let's say, [00:45:06] unloadings. In recent times, the rhythm of [00:45:10] seizures has increased to almost every [00:45:13] week. The GNR identified [00:45:16] 43,000 elderly people who live alone or isolated. The [00:45:20] numbers are from last year. The district that registers the highest number is Guarda [00:45:24] where almost 6,000 were identified living in a situation [00:45:27] of special [00:45:28] vulnerability. [00:45:32] This is the house where Mrs. Dona Odette lives. Good morning. [00:45:36] Good morning Dona Odette. Good morning. She is already [00:45:40] an octogenarian and lives accompanied only by this loyal [00:45:43] friend. [00:45:57] visits, she comes many times, a [00:46:01] company. With us, everything is fine, good [00:46:03] morning, belongs to the intervention division, social [00:46:07] action of the municipality of Pinhel. Very vast [00:46:10] territory, 484 square kilometers, [00:46:13] 56 localities and many elderly people living without [00:46:17] support, without family nearby and, therefore, this work of [00:46:20] partnership between the teams of the intervention division, social [00:46:23] action, the GNR team is absolutely fundamental [00:46:27] here. The main objective is to promote [00:46:29] self-protection and this year and also in [00:46:33] recent years, we have mainly focused on digital security [00:46:37] in the... in the context of new technologies, the use [00:46:41] of new technologies, since criminality is migrating [00:46:45] a lot through these means. We tell them to pay a lot of attention, [00:46:48] essentially not to answer unknown numbers, to [00:46:51] distrust. whenever there is some pressure on the other side, whenever there is a conversation [00:46:55] that is not routine, a conversation that is [00:46:59] strange, so they should distrust, and always seek advice if possible with the [00:47:03] authorities or with a family member. For those who use [00:47:06] the internet, we advise great care when sharing [00:47:10] data, essentially PIN codes, they should never do it digitally [00:47:13] via the internet, always in person if it has to be done. [00:47:55] to have because the scams appear they appear all the time yes yes weird calls [00:47:58] oh yes calls [00:48:01] on the mobile phone right they do but I don't answer things I don't [00:48:05] know numbers I don't know I don't answer last year [00:48:09] we identified 43,000 elderly people living alone and [00:48:12] or isolated eh with [00:48:15] 6,000 of those elderly people being in the Guarda district, therefore [00:48:19] the district with the most identified elderly people. [00:48:22] Thank you, Dona Ana, thank you, Mr. Pedro, for everything you have [00:48:26] done for me and helped [00:48:27] me with. [00:48:31] The local health unit of Alto Alentejo is eyeing [00:48:34] medical students, you will understand how and why, shortly [00:48:38] in this [00:55:56] he dreams of participating in the Paralympic Games. Later in this [00:55:59] news, the story of a Portuguese 17-time world champion. [00:56:02] mundo. [01:02:17] Luís Neves dismissed the Secretary General of the Internal Administration, Ricardo [01:02:21] Carrilho was fired this morning. [01:02:25] The protest for the right to housing did not demobilize, but a [01:02:28] police intervention ended the encampment in the very center of [01:02:31] Porto, farmers are in the streets in [01:02:35] protest, they want more support to maintain [01:02:37] competitiveness with their Spanish [01:02:39] colleagues. [01:02:43] They are against 1600 people and [01:02:45] entities, it's the European Union's largest sanctions package against [01:03:00] The Vatican has confirmed the Pope will be admitted tomorrow and is expected to be [01:03:03] operated on Wednesday. Leo XIV will undergo [01:03:07] surgery to remove a nodule from his lung detected when he was doing [01:03:11] exams due to a respiratory infection. The Vatican is [01:03:14] already reorganizing the Pope's schedule, taking into account [01:03:18] the recovery time. [01:03:22] The Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to two Americans. A large [01:03:25] part of Robert and Michael [01:03:28] Woodford's work was dedicated to understanding how economic [01:03:32] models could be based not only on statistical [01:03:35] connections, but also on the actions of companies and [01:03:38] families. As well as how [01:03:41] the micro-decisions of families and companies influence [01:03:45] the macroeconomy, such as statistics and other [01:03:49] large economic variables, a [01:03:51] work that earned them this year's Nobel, to [01:03:55] Robert Hall and [01:03:58] Michael Woodford. [01:04:30] to understand how consumer choices, saving, [01:04:33] influence the functioning of the [01:04:37] macroeconomy, they helped to develop more robust [01:04:41] economic models to understand and evaluate [01:04:45] the effects of economic policy decisions. [01:04:48] The current crisis caused by the war in the Middle East, [01:04:52] escapes these variables, says laureate Michael [01:04:56] Woodford. [01:05:00] economic forces that had much to do [01:05:02] with um, the outbreak of war, or [01:05:06] probably how long, how long it will last, but [01:05:09] events of that kind [01:05:13] have very significant [01:05:14] effects, [01:05:17] the Nobel Prize in Economics was the last prize this year [01:05:21] to be announced, it will be awarded in [01:05:24] December. [01:05:27] A 14-year-old student shot the director of a school and a [01:05:31] teacher in a town on the outskirts of Marseille. The incident [01:05:35] is not related to the student movement that continues to block [01:05:38] high schools. This is the guarantee given by the authorities. The [01:05:42] young man is detained, he entered the school with a hunting weapon hidden in [01:05:45] his guitar case. There are psychologists on site to support [01:05:49] the [01:05:50] students. [01:05:54] Later in this news, a challenge launched to visitors of an [01:05:57] exhibition at the Kalus Foundation. [01:06:05] medical students are being invited to spend the weekend in the [01:06:09] Alto Alentejo, the local health unit wants to show future doctors [01:06:12] that they can practice in a region where there is a shortage of [01:06:15] professionals. The mayor of Alter do Chão [01:06:18] plays host. Imagine, madam, you [01:06:22] need to renew your ID card, you don't have to wait in any [01:06:25] queue, in less than five minutes. The group of 18 [01:06:29] medical students from Lisbon faculties accepted the invitation [01:06:32] to spend a weekend in the Alto Alentejo. Most will now start their [01:06:36] internship. I think it's a great initiative, especially for [01:06:39] young people, because we are very used to the idea that to [01:06:43] grow we have to be in a place, well, very busy, [01:06:47] with many more opportunities and I really think this is good to deconstruct [01:06:50] that idea a bit and [01:06:54] I think that certainly if not me, my colleagues will be able [01:06:57] to be happy where they can do their... last careers here [01:07:01] if it's for me or not, it's [01:07:04] something that I still have to decide and think about, I still [01:07:08] have two more days to be convinced, first of all they were received in the [01:07:11] council's spaces, here we live with a very different [01:07:15] tranquility, but what we essentially have good are the [01:07:18] people, the people of Alter are [01:07:22] healthy people, so they are not very annoying for [01:07:26] doctors, [01:07:28] the initiative. Come and get to know, stay to [01:07:31] take care, it's a real charm operation, made [01:07:35] in partnership between the local health unit and the [01:07:38] intermunicipal community. We also want to build [01:07:43] a specification, so to speak, that allows [01:07:47] us to offer differentiation to those who choose this territory to [01:07:50] come and provide healthcare to our population. In Alto Alentejo [01:07:54] there are at least 12 family doctors missing. The young people visit the [01:07:58] municipalities where the needs are greatest. This is already the [01:08:01] second weekend, the second group they are trying to attract. [01:08:05] Why not come, choose a different [01:08:07] and beautiful place, with [01:08:11] I imagine good people. Six years of university in Lisbon was very much in the middle [01:08:15] of the rush and the metropolitan city and so I am also interested [01:08:18] in this interior part because I think it brings a different quality of life with time [01:08:22] for us and to breathe nature, it meets [01:08:25] what I am looking for, quality of life [01:08:28] and peace, tranquility, [01:08:31] to also be able to enjoy something, [01:08:35] to be able to help people and also enjoy life and [01:08:38] in a small village you get anywhere quickly, the health [01:08:41] center. is right here, it has two doctors already [01:08:45] retired, it is urgent to hire someone younger, [01:08:49] it is a health center, as you heard, for 3,000 and something [01:08:53] inhabitants and, therefore, it needs at least two and a half doctors, [01:08:56] not that we then talk about the half, but these young people who come today [01:09:00] do not all have to go to general and family medicine and [01:09:04] we have 12 vacancies [01:09:06] allocated in terms of competition and [01:09:10] five vacancies for internship. So it is a [01:09:13] process that will take its time and [01:09:16] we obviously also have a great need for various specialties at the level [01:09:20] of the two hospitals, the Maria Grande hospital and the Santa Lúcia hospital in [01:09:23] Elvas. Tatiana Vital grew up in Paço dos Negros [01:09:27] Almeirim and the Alentejo fits into her [01:09:30] dream. And I already had this option, Alentejo, Évora, Portalegre [01:09:33] and now suddenly an email arrived and I thought, [01:09:37] "oh, how funny." So maybe this is really saying that this is [01:09:41] the way to go. [01:10:12] it's incredible - I really like [01:10:16] being a great swimmer, [01:10:20] Vicente's biggest dream is the Paralympics, I have [01:10:23] many doubts that he will be able to go, it's not because of his [01:10:26] effort, power, are you okay? So [01:10:29] go, go, [01:10:32] in the opening ceremonies, in the closing ceremonies, people with Down syndrome perform [01:10:36] markings, perform [01:10:37] a show, [01:10:41] the biggest international organization that promotes inclusion is the first [01:10:45] to exclude, if they have the capacity to [01:10:49] entertain, they also have the capacity to compete. [01:11:02] Volcanic, Atlantic, far from [01:11:05] home, it is on the island of Tenerife that Vicente Pereira [01:11:08] challenges human potential, this [01:11:10] Spanish island is home. and a sanctuary for elite [01:11:14] athletes, what have you been doing is the pool, [01:11:17] pool, uhm, gym, [01:11:22] teuke, okay, let's work, let's go, [01:11:26] go, let it out, [01:11:27] okay, [01:11:31] undulate, legs, [01:11:34] ready [01:11:35] and, [01:11:38] when Vicente was born, both my wife and I [01:11:50] we were a little scared, and now what will [01:11:53] become of our son? [01:11:57] We still have 10 minutes, the best advice I [01:12:00] received from the doctor who [01:12:03] received us was that he [01:12:06] told us, it wasn't even really telling us, he forced us, he said, [01:12:10] this kid is not going to special education, he has to go to regular [01:12:13] education, you're going to jump in, grab the [01:12:16] bar, start on my signal, finish on my [01:12:27] cutlery, when we were in the car taking him to school, [01:12:31] he would always try to tie his [01:12:34] shoes, he couldn't until the day he managed [01:12:37] to, [01:12:40] and [01:12:42] a colleague from the pool told me there was a kid with [01:12:46] Down syndrome who learned a lot by watching [01:12:49] others, with the so-called normal ones, with his colleagues, but [01:12:53] who is... [01:12:55] take something off there, come, [01:12:57] come, [01:12:59] come, [01:13:02] in a year and a half, Vicente was already walking reasonably [01:13:05] well, how did you feel? [01:13:08] I felt [01:13:09] strong, [01:13:13] with with breathing, I breathed well, [01:13:16] you did eight strokes without breathing at the [01:13:18] beginning, [01:13:21] you have to start this right away with good breathing, it was surprising. [01:13:34] How many seconds were left? 13, only 13 seconds were left for [01:13:37] our goal and that immediately gave [01:13:40] good indications that Vicente could [01:13:44] become a [01:13:47] successful swimmer, we never thought, [01:13:50] we never thought that with his development he could [01:13:54] reach such levels and heights. [01:14:03] in America and he's absolutely [01:14:07] smashed it, [01:14:08] 115.14 [01:14:12] Pereira, when you're tired think you're finishing the [01:14:15] race, 15m left to finish the race, [01:14:18] okay, I'm tired, I'm exhausted, I can't take it anymore, [01:14:22] you can take it a little longer, think that... finish the race 15 15 [01:14:26] I work with a constant [01:14:29] feedback method and I've always done [01:14:32] that, if it demands a lot from me, it demands that I probably do [01:14:35] almost the same amount of swimming as Vicente, in terms of swimming back [01:14:39] and forth to be on top, on top of the mistake [01:14:42] in his legs in training, he is very insistent, [01:14:46] ah he criticizes very [01:14:48] loudly when Rui [01:14:51] sets goals for swimming. [01:15:18] unlike hundreds of high-performance athletes, Vicente [01:15:22] does not receive state support. [01:15:26] from the training camp in Tenerife to equipment, travel [01:15:29] depends almost exclusively on private [01:15:32] initiative and the family's effort. It's [01:15:36] incredible the number of athletes they [01:15:38] have, they have the support of the Betano heroes who are the [01:15:42] only ones who, being a private company, [01:15:45] do public sports service. It's [01:15:49] unbelievable that in Portugal these kids don't have the possibility [01:15:52] to be supported by the state. To have [01:15:55] the possibility of having a scholarship so that [01:15:59] they could apply the money either in their lives [01:16:03] or in the sport they do. [01:16:04] This [01:16:07] is not just swimming, it's a very high [01:16:10] expense, but this is not the only [01:16:14] barrier that athletes with Down syndrome [01:16:17] face. Go your right arm, your left [01:16:20] arm, it's towards the Paralympics. [01:16:23] But since my category is [01:16:26] S21 it's not possible, [01:16:30] but I'm fighting for my dream, it's what [01:16:33] hurts the most when you [01:16:36] hear your child say they have a dream and you know that [01:16:40] dream will be very difficult to achieve. In the Paralympic [01:16:44] Games, the rule states that athletes with Down syndrome [01:16:47] are included in the intellectual disability category, the [01:16:51] same as for autistic people, for example, and this is where the problem lies. [01:16:55] They start with a disadvantage, they face athletes [01:16:58] who are perfectly physically fit, but a [01:17:01] person with Down syndrome has less muscle rigidity, [01:17:04] flexibility and cardiovascular capacity, which [01:17:08] makes it impossible for athletes with Down syndrome to achieve the [01:17:12] minimums of their own category to enter the [01:17:15] competition. Let's go, come on, just [01:17:19] one more, slowly, slowly, [01:17:23] slowly. You have the [01:17:27] case of the Deaflympics who don't go to the Paralympics but have [01:17:30] their own Olympic Games, okay? Why isn't [01:17:34] there one for people with Down syndrome? [01:17:36] I guess [01:17:41] no one has ever been able to give me an explanation that I thought [01:17:44] was, well, on second thought, maybe they're right, [01:17:48] they tell us that the Paralympic [01:17:50] Games have an Olympic village, in that Olympic [01:17:54] village... all the teams, athletes [01:17:58] and staff are housed, [01:18:00] and in those Olympic, Paralympic villages, there are [01:18:03] 4800 beds that have to be distributed among all modalities. [01:18:07] All athletes and staff, at this moment the [01:18:10] inclusion of an athlete [01:18:14] in the Paralympic Games of a new modality means that someone has to [01:18:19] more, there cannot be more inclusion, so it is [01:18:23] a logistical issue, no, it is not a [01:18:26] logistical issue, it is a matter of a protocol that [01:18:29] exists between the International Olympic Committee and the International [01:18:40] giving up is not part of the dictionary, [01:18:43] you managed with your condition to be the [01:18:47] best in the world, that proves that there is no [01:18:50] problem, no problem, as [01:18:54] category 21 [01:18:57] you are among the best, [01:19:01] sport gives me [01:19:04] a unique opportunity. [01:19:08] Yeah, some people say [01:19:11] that I'm the best, that's all [01:19:14] fine, I live my life [01:19:17] and I continue to be the [01:19:19] best, [01:19:23] there are works from the collection of the Spanish La Caixa Foundation on display at [01:19:27] Gulbenkian in Lisbon, more than 30 [01:19:30] national and international artists are represented, in an exhibition that challenges [01:19:34] the viewer to get to work. [01:19:41] Painting is easy, do it yourself, the [01:19:44] slogan captured in Antonio Montadas' photography, gives [01:19:48] title to this exhibition: it has an almost subliminal [01:19:51] message, it suggests equality between the civil painter and the [01:19:55] art painter, this raises a series of [01:19:58] paradoxes or paradoxical tensions, in that [01:20:02] this suggestion also [01:20:06] raises a problem. [01:20:08] the theme of the distribution of the means of artistic production. The [01:20:12] works come from the La Caixa Foundation's collection, one of the most important [01:20:15] collections of contemporary art in [01:20:17] Spain. [01:20:21] The curatorship of the artist João Maria Gusmão at the Carlos C Foundation [01:20:25] brings new perspectives to these works. A group of artists [01:20:29] who have been reflecting on these issues of consumption in a critical [01:20:32] way or in a more directly active [01:20:35] way are gathered here today. [01:21:37] an RTP report: the traffickers broadcast on [01:21:40] October 23 of last year, portrays the story of [01:21:44] Brazilian women who risk their lives, are recruited by criminal [01:21:47] networks to transport cocaine in their stomachs and [01:21:51] intestines from South America to [01:22:04] awards are the most prestigious.
