[00:08:41] help by closing its door. to ukrainian men eligible for
[00:08:44] military service, they're now going to have to prove that they're not
[00:08:48] hiding from conscription in Ukraine by submitting military

[00:08:55] EU policy is practically sending Ukrainian men to their
[00:08:59] deaths. So the European Union has just made
[00:09:03] a quiet adjustment to its temporary protection policy
[00:09:07] for Ukrainians, not a big dramatic announcement, more of
[00:09:11] a little tweak. the legal text that changes the
[00:09:14] reality completely for Ukrainians fleeing war.
[00:09:18] As of August 5th, protection now depends on whether you can prove that
[00:09:22] you're in compliance with your military obligations back
[00:09:26] home. Here's the official version. To this end,
[00:09:30] without prejudice to union law and fundamental rights, temporary
[00:09:34] protection should only be granted to individuals who can provide proof to
[00:09:38] member state authorities that they are, where applicable in compliance with their
[00:09:42] military. obligations: so protection is no
[00:09:45] longer just about getting your behind out of a war
[00:09:49] zone, it also now means that you have to demonstrate
[00:09:52] that you're not getting out of it too effectively by
[00:09:56] avoiding the front line, and the EU is very clear about
[00:10:00] why they don't want to weaken Ukraine's ability to defend
[00:10:04] itself. now that part sounds like this: it is
[00:10:08] therefore essential that the union continue to apply temporary
[00:10:11] protection. a way that, while benefiting displaced persons does
[00:10:15] not negatively affect Ukraine's overall ability to best defend
[00:10:19] itself against Russia's war of aggression and to decide freely on the
[00:10:23] organization of its defense. forces, okay, so in other words, you
[00:10:27] can leave, just not in a way that becomes obvious or
[00:10:30] worse, so popular, that everyone notices that
[00:10:34] reality contradicts Brussels narrative, because
[00:10:37] Ukrainians fleeing mobilization is really at odds with the
[00:10:41] messaging that we've been hearing over the past few years, according to European
[00:10:45] leaders, Ukrainians aren't just willing to fight, they're
[00:10:49] practically falling over themselves to get to the frontlines, and we

[00:11:00] very resilient, they are fighting for their freedom, their

[00:11:07] can't just surrender. We witness the resilience of

[00:11:43] everyone's rushing to the front voluntarily, then you don't

[00:11:51] draft, you just assume that they're going because they're so gungho.
[00:11:55] but instead, the EU has built a system for
[00:11:59] Ukrainians that now says, hey, look, we support you,
[00:12:02] but we'd also like some confirmation that you're not trying to
[00:12:06] dodge this war that we keep saying you're so psyched about
[00:12:10] fighting. turns out that the EU member states are
[00:12:13] already operationalizing all of this. in the Czech Republic, for
[00:12:17] example, applicants will have to verify their Ukrainian military
[00:12:21] service status through an app before getting protection.
[00:12:25] Here's how that is being framed. Our government has been
[00:12:28] pushing for tightening of temporary protection conditions for a long time,
[00:12:32] and I appreciate that we have managed to find agreement across member
[00:12:36] states. This decision will reduce the number of new arrivals by
[00:12:40] tens of percentage points. This will subsequently reduce the
[00:12:43] pressure on our capacities and relieve the check health and social
[00:12:47] system. Yeah, well, there it is. The bottom
[00:12:51] line, of course, the practical reality that no one likes to pretend.
[00:12:55] even exists, fewer arrivals, less pressure on the
[00:12:58] system, smoother administration, fewer
[00:13:02] headaches,

[00:14:30] groups in the Sahel, they are once again trying to achieve their own goals through the hands

[00:16:45] researcher who told us that Ukraine is seeking to export its

[00:19:23] conditions. i've been in suda for seven
[00:19:27] days now. i spent three of those days sleeping in the forest without food or
[00:19:31] water. we barely had enough food to
[00:19:33] survive. it's been seven days since we in
[00:19:37] the forest, me, my mom and my brother. I hope to become a police
[00:19:41] officer in the future and to be able to go to Spain so that we can be
[00:19:45] reunited with my dad, along with mom and my
[00:19:47] brother. God willing will be okay, they give
[00:19:51] us only one meal a day and look what's in it. Milk and small rond cookies and we're
[00:19:55] really surviving on just that. You always see infants with their mothers, so we're forced to give
[00:19:59] them our share of milk because it won't make difference for us, but it makes a big difference for
[00:20:02] them. You'll find a woman with a small child who has nothing to feed him. There
[00:20:06] aren't even... diapers, they haven't provided us with anything, it's as if all these
[00:20:10] people don't even exist. now the EU claims
[00:20:14] that the crisis was resolved quickly, and conclusions drawn about stronger
[00:20:18] border protection, questions over whose border
[00:20:20] it is, and who should be responsible for it remain. the EU wants
[00:20:24] to shift responsibility onto Morocco, but Rabot considers Suda as
