[00:00:04] of [00:00:17] UAE on the anniversary [00:00:18] of the European Union winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Today leaders [00:00:22] from that grouping [00:00:23] of which is armed genocide in Gaza meet at something called the [00:00:26] Warsaw Security Forum. Speakers will avoudly call. for the [00:00:30] destruction [00:00:31] of the Russian Federation, not just Ukrainian dictator Zelensky who [00:00:34] has been given long-range missiles by Britain and Intel from the [00:00:38] CIA to kill civilians in Russia. It's also four [00:00:42] of years today that 143 out of 193 [00:00:45] general assembly member states voted to condemn Russia for referendums in [00:00:49] the [00:00:49] of Donbas, Carson and Zaparia. Democracy in the economies of western European [00:00:53] states that did so are now in chaos as uprisings [00:01:00] recently at the latest UN general assembly in New York, he has [00:01:03] tirelessly fought for the war in Europe to [00:01:06] of [00:01:07] of end, before the 24th February 2022, he [00:01:10] advised US officials to publicly admit Ukraine would not be permitted NATO [00:01:14] membership. Professor Jeffrey Sax is the director of Columbia University's [00:01:18] center for sustainable development, [00:01:21] of of president of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and former advisor to UN Secretary's general, general [00:01:24] Kofian and Antonio Gutierez, he's in Rome in [00:01:28] Italy, professor. [00:01:34] going to ask you why you're in Rome immediately, but uh, four years [00:01:37] then since the UN general assembly [00:01:39] of resolution against Russia, I mean, apart [00:01:43] from threats of mass killing from Trump and Netan Yahoo, at the UN General [00:01:47] of Assembly, which we might talk about, uh, what did you detect [00:01:50] uh, 12 years on since the coup in Ukraine, at [00:01:54] the UN General Assembly in New York, well these wars [00:01:57] continue to rage because it's nobody wants to [00:02:01] speak the truth uh and nobody wants to acknowledge [00:02:05] uh ground [00:02:06] a realities. the war in Ukraine is a war that came as [00:02:10] as you mentioned with a [00:02:12] of coup that overthrew a Ukrainian president so that [00:02:16] NATO could enlarge all the way to Russia's [00:02:18] border uh when uh the United [00:02:22] States pushed the Europeans to agree to [00:02:26] commit to Ukraine's membership in NATO uh [00:02:30] then German chancellor Merkel wrote in her diary [00:02:34] that this was, as she knew, [00:02:36] in tanto amount to a declaration of war, that's the way that the Russians would see [00:02:40] it, and she was right, she wasn't [00:02:43] of strong enough to resist, George W. Bush, she [00:02:47] should have, we [00:02:49] have been [00:02:49] a slide to war ever since 2008 [00:02:53] when US push for this NATO enlargement, [00:02:56] 2014 started the war with the US backed [00:03:00] coup on February 22nd, [00:03:04] 2014, and [00:03:07] Europeans have gone with gusto, [00:03:11] me denying truth, denying logic, denying [00:03:13] me the off-ramps to peace, and till today they are the [00:03:17] warmongers, right now, they're championing the war, [00:03:20] of they're talking about escalation, they're talking about remilitarizing [00:03:24] Germany, God [00:03:26] of forbid, but this is the way things go, the only [00:03:30] glimmer, the only glimmer of [00:03:34] light at the UN general assembly was that the German [00:03:38] foreign minister at least sat down for 20 minutes [00:03:42] with his Russian [00:03:43] of counterpart. It doesn't seem like much, but it was the first time [00:03:47] in years that that has happened. I've been pressing [00:03:51] and writing open letters to Chancellor Merts and [00:03:55] publishing pretty much non-stop in the German [00:03:58] media. hawk, because [00:04:01] remember, German reunification in 1990 [00:04:05] came because you, the German leaders, promise that [00:04:08] NATO wouldn't move one inch eastworth. [00:04:12] Go talk, go learn what the Russian of point of view [00:04:16] is, and when you understand the Russian point of view, [00:04:20] this war could stop [00:04:21] in a day on sensible terms that are sensible for [00:04:25] Russia, for Ukraine and for Europe, and [00:04:33] so did you get to manage to see him in New York and ask him [00:04:37] why, as many have around the world, why the UN has not taken a [00:04:41] of more [00:04:43] of muscular role and conven some kind of conference [00:04:45] in a neutral space, of course, I mean we're hoping there'll be a conference here in the [00:04:48] UAE [00:04:50] of soon, well I sure hope so, you know, all [00:04:53] of these wars that are raging right [00:04:56] of now [00:04:57] of actually [00:04:57] of have uh, if I may put it... this way straight [00:05:01] forward exit ramps, the war in Ukraine [00:05:05] would end [00:05:06] of by Ukraine returning to neutrality, which is what it was before [00:05:10] the US backed cool. by NATO saying, okay, okay, [00:05:14] we won't enlarge to Russia's border, uh, and [00:05:18] having an armistice line were both sides say, you know, [00:05:22] we have disagreements on borders, but we're not going to pursue [00:05:26] them through military means, the war [00:05:29] in Gaza, the genocide in [00:05:32] Gaza, will end one of two ways [00:05:35] a state of Palestine alongside a state of [00:05:39] Israel, or one binational state. in [00:05:43] which both the Palestinian Arabs and the [00:05:46] Israeli Jews live in one state, either [00:05:49] way, we need that, because the current way [00:05:53] of a ruthlessly murderous Israeli state [00:05:57] backed by Europe in the United States is unforgivable, [00:06:01] absolutely unforgivable, and the war in Iran [00:06:05] is the dumbest of all possible [00:06:08] wars. President Trump uh brags [00:06:12] that six previous presidents resisted it, but he [00:06:15] did it. I don't think that's a matter of bragging, I think it's a matter [00:06:19] the most shocking incompetence that we probably ever [00:06:23] had in that office, but the war in [00:06:27] with Iran, which was a war of [00:06:30] aggression and murder the Iranian leadership on [00:06:34] February 28 uh of this year, [00:06:38] will end simply when the United States [00:06:41] leaves. "we don't even need an agreement, because if the US [00:06:45] leaves, Iranians are going to open the straight off moves wide [00:06:49] open to sell oil and the rest the gulf [00:06:53] region where you are and all the rest will go back [00:06:56] to normal life. it's the US that provoked this [00:07:00] with Israel, it's the US that kept it going, there [00:07:04] is no reason for this war to continue another hour, the United States [00:07:07] should turn around and go home as far as I'm concerned, nobody has to agree [00:07:11] anything if..." you've done something unbelievably stupid, stop [00:07:15] doing it. yeah, but did you get to speak to Antonio Gateres who [00:07:19] you used to advise? why is he not organizing anything? didn't, [00:07:23] didn't, i didn't speak to him this time because he was [00:07:26] sitting on the podium, i was there cringing with every [00:07:30] word of my president donald trump who said [00:07:34] he had a hard choice to make, whether to make Iran [00:07:38] a great country, i don't think he realizes [00:07:42] Iran. was a great country 2,500 years ago, [00:07:45] 10 times older than the United States, thank you, but any [00:07:49] event, whether to do that or whether to annihilate Iran and send [00:07:53] everybody to help, and this is a president the United States [00:07:57] speaking this way, so yes, the [00:08:00] UN has huge role, [00:08:04] fundamental role, but the United States really blocks the [00:08:07] role, yes, so the un, the UN has no role, arguably, I mean [00:08:11] back to Ukraine. "I understand Jake Sullivan told you before Russia [00:08:15] went in in 2022 that there'd be no NATO [00:08:26] like why has the UN secretariat done absolutely [00:08:29] nothing to stop a war in Europe. The UN was only created [00:08:32] because the end of another war in Europe. I [00:08:36] believe the UN should do lot more and can do [00:08:40] lot more, but the reason that..." [00:08:42] it is paralyzed as it is is essentially the united [00:08:46] states says we don't obey any [00:08:50] rules and do you even trump said by the [00:08:54] way people will remember when he was asked are you [00:08:57] bound by international law he said i'm not bound [00:09:01] by anything but my own morality he said by my [00:09:05] will that's the only thing that binds me this [00:09:09] is kind of madness frankly this is an old man who [00:09:13] doesn't have uh all the marbles together as [00:09:17] far as although it should be said Trump has done a lot more for peace arguably [00:09:21] than anything the UN has done as regards the war in Europe, at least [00:09:25] Trump [00:09:25] has set up meetings, at least Trump set up meetings in anchourage [00:09:29] and tried rhetorically, rhetorically while at [00:09:33] the same time supplying the weapons. I won't go that far [00:09:36] because he said in anchored [00:09:39] privately, well NATO won't. [00:09:42] large, but he didn't say it publicly because he's [00:09:45] incompetent, and then when he was opposed by the military [00:09:49] industrial complex in the United States and in Europe [00:09:53] and by Zelensky, rather than being president the United States, he just [00:09:57] back down, and that's why the Russians are saying, okay, what [00:10:01] is all [00:10:01] of this, you told us things, you don't follow through, this [00:10:05] is unfortunately the way it goes, unless you have a competent [00:10:09] president, so I don't unfortunately give [00:10:12] give many points for having a meeting and failing to [00:10:16] follow through, and I give even fewer points [00:10:20] for a complete, total failure to [00:10:23] communicate based. truth, what is needed to end this [00:10:27] war is for a president the united states and a chancelor of germany to [00:10:31] say, nato won't enlarge, that's the one [00:10:35] sentence that's going to end this war, they won't [00:10:42] made a mistake when he went to anchorage to meet [00:10:45] Donald Trump, you think the Russians don't fully understand [00:10:49] Trump? [00:10:50] I don't, no, I don't, I don't think you [00:10:53] make a mistake by Trump. but i think that [00:10:57] they are not shocked that it didn't work [00:11:00] famously said an interview that he [00:11:03] gave in 2017 that he had by that [00:11:07] time worked with three american presidents you they [00:11:10] and come [00:11:11] said into he office with ideas but then men in dark suits [00:11:15] and blue ties come to tell them [00:11:17] the way the world really is and then you never hear of those ideas [00:11:21] again is very experienced with american. [00:11:25] presidents, he knows that they do not follow through, [00:11:29] and I don't think they're shocked by Trump's failure to follow [00:11:32] through, I think they're disappointed, I think they hope, and I think it's [00:11:36] always worth trying to have [00:11:39] diplomacy, so I don't think that that's [00:11:43] a matter of regret, to take that extra mile is [00:11:46] extremely important, in fact what I [00:11:49] completely think is the huge mistake of Europe [00:11:53] is they don't even try to. diplomacy, they don't even know what it is, you [00:11:57] you've been talking to the officials, mean you've been writing letters, but you also have [00:12:01] been talking to EU officials as far as [00:12:03] I understand, what is your, I mean, you're unable to [00:12:06] persuade them, but what is your impression of why they don't even [00:12:10] seem to be that fearful the prospect of nuclear [00:12:13] war? well, first of all, we have pundits [00:12:17] and we have officials that say, oh, that's a [00:12:20] bluff, [00:12:21] you know, this threat of nuclear weapons, these people, [00:12:25] are so unbelievably reckless [00:12:29] with your life and my life and my children's lives and my grandchildren's [00:12:33] lives, I can't even tell you how disgusted I am by [00:12:36] this uh blaze attitude. We [00:12:40] are [00:12:41] we are at dire risk of blowing ourselves [00:12:45] up and to deny it and then just talk [00:12:49] provocatively and Russia hate talk [00:12:53] and oh yes Maybe we can take Kin and [00:12:57] on [00:12:57] and on. This kind of recklessness is [00:13:00] shocking. Don't these people understand [00:13:03] anything? Apparently not. This is, [00:13:07] but by the way, when I spoke with - [00:13:10] one very nice European official, and I [00:13:14] said, just say NATO is not going to enlarge. He [00:13:18] said, oh, well, the United [00:13:21] States has has said that. [00:13:25] to president Putin, I said, yeah, it may be [00:13:29] true, they said it privately, they didn't follow [00:13:32] through, and your government has never said it, so why don't you [00:13:36] say it publicly, and he looked at a little [00:13:39] quizically, like that was new thought, [00:13:43] oh, that's interesting, yeah, let me think about [00:13:46] that, do they not understand [00:13:50] what's going [00:13:55] that this is continued in this way for [00:13:58] years, but I think that there is a tremendous [00:14:02] amount of incompetence and [00:14:05] awardices and unwillingness these [00:14:09] politicians to admit basic [00:14:12] truths and that that keeps this going, it's just [00:14:44] The deep state has its hands in everything. I was in the [00:14:48] middle of it for decades. When I blew the whistle on CIA [00:14:52] torture, the deep state turned on me. they ruined my [00:14:56] life, took away my rights, threw me in [00:14:59] prison, but they didn't break [00:15:01] me. fought back [00:15:05] and i still do. i'm John Kiriaku, on my [00:15:09] show, the deep state, take you behind the geopolitical moves, the [00:15:13] color revolutions, behind the politics and the [00:15:15] politicians. we shine a light on where the deep state is [00:15:19] hiding. [00:15:30] "welcome back to going [00:15:38] uh how a unnamed EU official seems surprised that [00:15:42] uh the uh declaration of uh no expansion of [00:15:45] NATO might be helpful in the situation. I don't suppose you could tell me [00:15:49] who the EU [00:15:57] but but just to just to say [00:16:00] you oh it's so odd because [00:16:04] this is actually someone I've known for a long time ' i this was [00:16:08] foreign minister, i know his leader also very well, i think [00:16:12] actually they probably want peace, but they cannot bring [00:16:15] themselves to say basic truths, and [00:16:19] this comes back to the conversation you mentioned - [00:16:23] before the break that [00:16:31] had. now Jake Sullivan was the national security advisor [00:16:34] under Biden and Putin [00:16:38] put security agreement on the table to [00:16:42] try to avert this escalation, he did that in [00:16:45] December uh 2021, and [00:16:49] it didn't have everything the US would ever accept, but it had [00:16:53] lot of good stuff, including stop the NATO enlargement, so [00:16:57] I called Sullivan and and I had a long [00:17:01] conversation with him, and the gist of it was, uh, I said, [00:17:04] Jake, just just announce NATO's. not going [00:17:08] to enlarge and uh and avoid a war and he said [00:17:12] jeff, NATO is not going to enlarge, I said [00:17:15] Jake, are you kidding, you're going [00:17:19] to have a war? oh, he said first, we we can't announce that NATO is [00:17:23] not going to win large, we have an open-door policy, [00:17:27] so Jake, NATO's open door policy is the biggest [00:17:31] bunch of bs imaginable, does the US have an open-door [00:17:35] policy for Mexico that it can have a... Chinese military base [00:17:39] or Canada can have a Russian military base there is that America's open-door [00:17:43] policy? How about a little bit of principle here? There is no [00:17:46] principle of open door. You don't put your [00:17:50] military on Russia's border just like you don't want Russia to put [00:17:54] their military on the US border. And we almost flew up the [00:17:58] world when Russia, the Soviet Union did that in [00:18:02] October 1962. So just say, [00:18:06] Jake, that NATO's. not going to enlarge, he said, [00:18:10] jeff, NATO is not going to enlarge, I said, say it [00:18:13] publicly, [00:18:19] okay, we're going to have a war because of something that's not going [00:18:23] to happen, he said, don't worry, don't worry, there's not going to be [00:18:27] a war, this is the same national, what do you make of that, this [00:18:30] is the same national security advisor who wrote to Clinton that [00:18:34] the USA was on the same side as al-qaed. in [00:18:38] Syria, do you think he was just lying to you or he [00:18:42] was that incompetent that he didn't realize what the policy [00:18:46] was? no, i think that [00:18:49] um, i think the level of [00:18:52] incompetence in our governments is [00:18:55] staggering, actually, just staggering, [00:18:59] and they believe that they can say anything without [00:19:03] consequence, so they can twist [00:19:06] things. "they can create their own realities. It's [00:19:10] a staggering incompetence is my my view of [00:19:13] this. I don't think it was just lying to me, because he was saying [00:19:17] things that weren't exactly lies, they were just [00:19:20] foolish, foolishness sounds like l would [00:19:24] sound like a lie to many people. I mean, I've got to say that Sikorsky, the [00:19:27] Polish foreign minister will be at the Warsaw Security conference today, famously [00:19:31] saying you can kill lot of people, but you cannot win. The Russian empire has fallen, [00:19:35] Russia lost the crimean war, lost the..." Russia japanese war, lost the first [00:19:39] world war in Afghanistan, lost the cold war, Ben Hodges, the [00:19:43] former US Army, Europe commander, said Finland alone would [00:19:47] crush Russian forces, the European Union Defense and space [00:19:51] commission said, if we continue to be afraid of Russian escalation will encourage Putin [00:19:54] escalate more, time and time again [00:19:58] the the speakers at this forum will be saying, I mean [00:20:02] the ex-nato military committee chair admiral Rob Bower said our whole [00:20:06] of society is talking of western Europe, I presume, our whole of [00:20:09] society effort must now be structured to withstand [00:20:13] a hot conflict with Russia. These people [00:20:17] are so, I'm gonna, I'm going to double down, these [00:20:21] people are so inconfident, it's beyond belief. It's not [00:20:25] only war propitearing, although some them do that. It [00:20:29] is [00:20:33] people, I know [00:20:42] In fact, [00:20:42] I had [00:20:43] was senior advisor to the Polish government, I helped them a lot. Thank [00:20:47] you uh, in the late 80s and the early. 1990s [00:20:51] at the same time that I was meeting with the chancellor Cole and the same [00:20:54] time I was advising President Gorbachov and the same time I was advising [00:20:58] President Yelson and the same time I was advising Ukrainian President [00:21:01] Kuschma uh and I know how the [00:21:05] United States so profoundly messed up [00:21:09] yes it's incompetence mixed with Huberus all these [00:21:13] people are arrogant they don't know history they're kill they're [00:21:17] taking other people's lives. of course they have no [00:21:20] accountability, so there are many different dimensions to it, but I'm going to [00:21:24] double down on incompetence is being a very major factor, we [00:21:28] need governments of people who know what they're doing, [00:21:32] and of course they have to care not to get lot of people [00:21:35] killed, and so it's two criteria, some decency and [00:21:39] some competence. I mean, the Trump administration is sending the [00:21:43] former special presidential envoy, [00:21:47] Keith Kellog, and a commissioner for you. [00:21:50] European [00:21:51] command, [00:21:56] kellog is a hardliner, [00:22:00] absolutely could not put together a coherent [00:22:04] thought when he was the formal advisor, [00:22:07] last time I saw was on the on the floor the [00:22:11] UN general assembly year agosing with with [00:22:15] mr with the ministersky, this is [00:22:19] not so... [00:22:29] saying the answer to Russia should be more support for [00:22:32] Ukraine. I suppose my question to you is you know that there was [00:22:36] a fair degree of opposition to Putin now within Russia that he's not [00:22:40] prosecuting this as well as he might [00:22:43] do and is being too lineant as the drone [00:22:47] attacks on Moscow the civilian casualties [00:22:51] caused by MI6 and CIA Intel guided [00:22:54] drones, what do you think Russia should do given that this [00:22:58] is the kind of thing they say, this is Gabriel [00:23:01] Lansbergis the ex Lithuania foreign minister, Lithuania just changed their [00:23:05] nuclear weapons doctrine, said we are merely postponing a war that will swallow the rest [00:23:09] of Europe if we don't defeat Russia on the [00:23:11] battlefield from Lithuania, can [00:23:15] you [00:23:24] Israel, but even even radically more so, which [00:23:27] is they think the US, that they can say anything, that they can [00:23:31] spew as much anti-Russia hatred, that they can talk [00:23:35] about defeating a nuclear superpower [00:23:38] with 1,600 deployed nuclear weapons [00:23:42] and about 6, in total, that they can say all of this [00:23:46] because they think the US has their back. "this [00:23:50] this is actually not how the world works, and they [00:23:54] are so reckless and stupid [00:23:57] to talk in these terms, and please, I don't want anyone to call [00:24:01] a Putin apologist on this, because I have [00:24:05] a presidential award from Estonia because I helped the [00:24:09] Baltic states, I worked with Estonia, helped them introduce their [00:24:12] national currency, got an award from their president, one the highest [00:24:16] civilian awards, I'm not anybody's apologies." just i [00:24:20] just find what is being said right now [00:24:24] suicidal and unbelievably stupid and [00:24:27] unbelievably devoid of historical awareness [00:24:31] and unbelievably reckless, just [00:24:35] reckless and who the hell is lithuaniaa to talk about [00:24:39] defeating [00:24:46] like grown ups if we're going to survive and if we're going to save this world. for our [00:24:50] children and grandchildren, and these people are not behaving like [00:24:53] grown-ups. Anyone who's watching this program, who also watches lot [00:24:57] of uh western European broadcasts or American broadcast, well the [00:25:01] wire agency, reuters associated press will say everything you've said is kind [00:25:05] of Putin talking point, how is the media helped [00:25:08] to promote the continuation of this war [00:25:12] and the horrific numbers of dead and wounded on the [00:25:16] front? the media is mouth. [00:25:21] for the military industrial conflicts in the united [00:25:23] states and [00:25:26] i counted in 2022 to 2023 in the [00:25:30] first year the war the new york times used the word [00:25:34] unprovoked to refer to Russia's [00:25:37] invasion unprovoked use that word [00:25:40] 26 times on the opinion pages so [00:25:44] i asked the editor in the opinion [00:25:48] pages let me write one [00:25:51] high 700 words to explain [00:25:55] why this war was provoked and she wouldn't [00:25:58] let me do it and i went around and around in circles for: [00:26:02] months, I couldn't get 700 words, I didn't even care if [00:26:06] it was in print, I said, just make it online, you have endless [00:26:09] capacity online, these places don't [00:26:13] want to hear facts, they don't want to [00:26:16] debate, it's all closed up, and that's just the [00:26:20] propaganda that we're living with right now, that's the tragedy, [00:26:24] just finally, by the time this is being broadcast, we don't know Israel or the United [00:26:28] States might have deployed a nuclear attack on Iran. [00:26:32] how would you advise the Iranian government in the [00:26:35] circumstances given the seismic [00:26:39] impact of this war billions pushed well [00:26:43] into poverty partly because the high inflation, let alone the mass [00:26:46] casualty events we've seen in this region in the bust uh [00:26:50] since February. look, Iran is Iran [00:26:54] is facing a an existential [00:26:57] war, it was attacked in a brutal [00:27:00] aggression uh, by the United States and [00:27:04] Israel, I think people should [00:27:07] remember that on the first day the attack the [00:27:11] leaders of Iran were together because they were [00:27:14] discussing the next round of negotiation, [00:27:18] because [00:27:18] there was a supposedly negotiating process [00:27:22] underway, that's the American and Mosad [00:27:25] style, which is, oh, get the other side to [00:27:29] negotiate, and then when they're together, kill them, that... [00:27:33] is literally the policy that they followed, they were [00:27:37] together to discuss what to say or how to respond in the next [00:27:40] round of negotiation that was to take place in Vienna the following [00:27:44] week, the Omani mediator had said how much progress had been [00:27:48] made, and so Musad and Trump and BB [00:27:51] thought this is a great opportunity to kill and yet continue [00:27:55] to off more negotiations [00:28:06] them, they in my mind carry [00:28:08] dignity of a civilization that [00:28:12] is 2,500 years old, the history [00:28:16] is that Persia has been there a very long time, and [00:28:20] the Persian and the Iranian negotiators are very [00:28:23] dignified, very intelligent, very well educated people, [00:28:27] and the United States in Israel think that they're just targets for [00:30:19] Russia is yet to comment on Donald Trump's announcement of an [00:30:22] energy cease fire in the Ukraine conflict, the US statement appears to [00:30:26] have caught Zelensky by surprise, as he says the [00:30:30] Kiev would only agree if MOS. does the [00:30:33] same, the [00:30:36] Europeans have given the Russians more money, [00:30:40] they are since the start of this war then they have given the Ukrainians because they [00:30:44] cannot win themselves off Russian energy. [00:30:48] Washington blasts the EU's hypocrisy over Russian [00:30:51] energy imports as German opposition officials demand their [00:30:55] own Trump style diesel deal with Moscow. [00:30:59] It is a...
