[00:06:45] sadly it's all about team Niger performance um the [00:06:49] finals medal table right there Nigerian finishing seventh [00:06:53] but in terms of 24 metal holes 10 gold seven silver seven [00:06:56] prints um when it comes to African team satley team Nigeria [00:07:00] did top the rankings right there um South Africa in [00:07:04] second place with seven gold medals s 11 [00:07:07] silver and 10 bronze Kenya Mauritius Cameroon Namibia Gana [00:07:11] lasito and Zambia were also teams that did have [00:07:15] medals, well let's do review team langer performances in [00:07:18] Glasgow and what was the historic outing for several [00:07:22] athletes, not just team Nigeria now, but several athletes did stand [00:07:26] out in terms of posting world records, also smashing the commer world [00:07:30] games record, one them is the team captain of team [00:07:33] Nigeria Falashada Femiayo who was the team Nigeria's captain [00:07:37] to 2026 Comerold games in Glasgow and she joins the show this [00:07:41] evening. good evening for lasha day, it's good to have you on the [00:07:44] show, good evening sir, happy to be with [00:07:48] you, thank you so much, let's start with team Nigeria's [00:07:51] performance, because I know quite well that you know the national sports [00:07:55] commission had a projection of about 16 to 20 gold [00:07:58] medals, um, but when you take into cognisence, the fact that it was just 10 [00:08:02] sports um this time around, it was still a successful outing by [00:08:06] every standard, what do you make of Team Nigeria's performance at the Glasgow [00:08:10] games which you had the privilege of? in the team [00:08:13] captain? well, i will [00:08:16] first say i will give thanks to the national sports commission [00:08:20] because the are they encourage for the encouragement they gave [00:08:24] us, because you know as athlete you have been training for so [00:08:27] many years, when you hear that, ah, this is what is your [00:08:31] reward, where you give us gold, where you give us, when you go there and fight and [00:08:35] bring back the bring back the medal, you you will [00:08:39] be, you will be pushed to go beyond. [00:08:49] with the support the national sport commission and uh [00:08:53] our DG, the director general [00:08:56] with Malche Udico, they've tried [00:09:00] because - they've been encouraging us to their words and [00:09:03] cash and kind that if you go there and make us [00:09:07] proud, we will make you proud too, so we say a big thank you to [00:09:10] them and is a big privilege for me to be the [00:09:14] captain because i've been praying for god, god they have given me the captain, i [00:09:18] want the best the [00:09:19] out commonw game, which uh, all [00:09:23] our performance was very brilliant one, so i thank God for that. [00:09:26] okay, well definitely talk about you, the athlete welfare and how [00:09:30] that sport athletes to go all out um for the nation, let's [00:09:34] talk about camping, more often than not when it comes to big [00:09:38] performances like this, global performances, there have always been [00:09:41] complaints. time past about inadequate you know um [00:09:45] training camp and what have you, this time around there was a two weeks [00:09:49] camping in Nigeria before the three weeks camping in [00:09:53] Abidin, how important, how impactful was that [00:09:57] training camp, especially the one in abadin to ensure that you all had [00:10:00] success at the games, it was very big [00:10:04] impact in our lives as athlete because it has never happened, [00:10:08] it has been long, it has never happened, if you see bramian. [00:10:12] 2020 it was only we spend only uh 12 days [00:10:15] and you can see the performance, but this one we [00:10:19] spend almost a month plus going [00:10:21] to two months income, two weeks here in Nigerian, the weeks in [00:10:25] Abad in as you can see, you will see the improvement, there is a big improvement. [00:10:29] I want to thank, I want to thank the National Sport [00:10:32] Commission for the equipment, because when we get to Abadin, all the [00:10:36] equipment there are very perfect, very, very good one, so we love it, [00:10:40] so even seeing that equipment gave us very [00:10:43] big, it gave us very big head to go [00:10:47] and perform. Okay, so thank, thank [00:10:51] you national sports commission, okay, let's talk about the athlete welfare. [00:10:55] because you mentioned that you know about the prize um you [00:10:58] know the bonuses that were attached to each um [00:11:02] medalist from the gold um to the silver and the bronze [00:11:06] um was that just the drive or there was also a personal goal [00:11:10] you know that athletes um set out to achieve in terms of [00:11:14] personal best in terms of games record in terms of world records what [00:11:18] was that motivating factor not just for you but for other athletes [00:11:22] asides the welfare package [00:11:24] as i said earlier, i said something earlier, i said uh, as [00:11:28] athlete you have been training for years, for two years, three years, [00:11:32] coming out for the common word games and uh [00:11:35] the uh the national sports [00:11:38] commission malonche udiko and the dg coming [00:11:42] out to say if you give me gold this is [00:11:44] what i will give you, if you give me silver this is what i give, is a big [00:11:47] motivation, so only that motivation alone and the [00:11:51] welfare was very okay, so it motivates the at to [00:11:55] go there and say uh, since they can do this, let me go there and perform, [00:11:59] like I said, it's just like training a child to go to [00:12:02] school, when it's time for him to write exam, you you wait for him to bring a [00:12:06] good result, so that is what they did, and thank god we gave them good [00:12:10] results, okay, let's talk about you personally [00:12:13] now, be, aside being team Nigeria's captain to the games, you [00:12:17] were one of those, you know, medal hopefuls for the Nigerian [00:12:21] consents having dominated your sports and also [00:12:25] several records over the years, it was very [00:12:28] successful outing for you, you won the gold medal, you also had the [00:12:32] world record broken, how impressed were you by your performance [00:12:36] and how do you think you build on this for future [00:12:39] performances? well, i will [00:12:43] said uh, you see firstly, if you have passion for a [00:12:46] game, you will go all out for it, the passion i have for [00:12:50] my game, the love and the resilience, that is what make [00:12:54] me to... go there win the gold and i break the world record [00:12:58] there so i thank i thank god for that because uh [00:13:02] i was trying he's not easy common game in power lifting is body [00:13:06] weight uh we deal on body [00:13:08] weight so you will go three times your body [00:13:12] weight before you can be able to win your gold if [00:13:16] you check my category you will find out that we have those that are big there [00:13:19] small so it is on body weight so what you push there [00:13:23] they will use it and calculate your body with, so I just thank God, it was [00:13:27] a great performance. Okay, let's [00:13:31] talk about your children, because um, during the common world games, when you won the [00:13:35] gold medal, you talked about your children being a huge factor for [00:13:39] you, um, how decisive were they in terms of [00:13:42] inspiring you and motivating you to go all the way, not just to cleanch the [00:13:46] gold medal, but also smash the world [00:13:48] record, well let me let me give you an example, [00:13:52] like uh, [00:13:53] a day to my competition, those at home yeah, my kids and [00:13:57] my younger ones, everybody were on fasting, they called me, [00:14:01] they said they are fasting for a day before my competition that they will [00:14:05] love me to bring back the gold medal, so that was why when i won it, [00:14:08] i have to call them immediately, i won the gold medal, so thank [00:14:12] goodless to them, most especially my husband, [00:14:16] he went on fasting to praying that [00:14:19] god she's my wife, she must not fail and i is a [00:14:23] big appreciation to him and my kids, my family members and my [00:14:27] fans, all my fans, i will say a big thank you to them for their [00:14:31] support and prayers. okay, um, before i let you go, [00:14:35] um, what next for you, you've had you know the privilege of representing [00:14:38] Nigeria on several fronts when it comes to international [00:14:42] competitions, um, probably the height of it was this commer world games [00:14:46] because you were named team captain for the Nigerian [00:14:49] contingent, what next for Folashade in terms of smashing more [00:14:52] records, winning more laurels, how? [00:14:55] do you see the next year in terms of competitions for [00:14:58] you? well, if god star is, let's god [00:15:02] keep us, I'll keep on training to go more further, because [00:15:06] the there's a saying that say there's there's no champion forever, so where you are [00:15:10] sleeping, we still have some people training for you, so you don't have to sit, I [00:15:14] will keep on training by the grace of God, anything it gives me in the next [00:15:18] competition, fine, okay, and um, finally [00:15:22] for Team Nigeria, um, you, you've praised the nationals. sports commission [00:15:25] for the support they've given the athletes in terms of training camp, in [00:15:29] terms of equipment as well as you know the athlete welfare, the [00:15:33] financial incentives, what other you know um reforms, [00:15:37] what other? things do you expect the national sports commission to do to [00:15:40] ensure that Nigerian sports continues to thrive on the global [00:15:44] stage? all right, on behalf of me on all the [00:15:48] athletes, the team Nigeria that went for commerweight game, we are looking forward to our [00:15:51] our president to [00:15:55] receive us, at least we have made the country proud, each two [00:15:59] should make us proud. okay, um, certainly [00:16:02] president will definitely um have [00:16:06] you [00:16:07] all is so he's done that over the years in terms of [00:16:10] hosting the super falcons, the the tigers, the basketball team, you [00:16:14] name it, i'm sure the commonwealth contingent will not be left [00:16:18] out, the captain of team Nigeria to [00:16:22] 2026 commonwth games in Glasgow, i have to thank you so much and thank you [00:16:26] for all you do for Nigerian sports, thank you very [00:16:29] much, thank you so much, [00:16:31] bye. [00:16:57] Away from the common world games now let's our attention to the very best of football and it's all [00:17:01] about the women's africa cup of nations where Nigeria [00:17:05] definitely is the dominant figure. when it comes to continental [00:17:08] women's football 10 time champions going in for record extending [00:17:12] 11th and certainly all hopes will be resting on the match [00:17:16] later tonight we'll get to that a bit let's talk about the action we saw last [00:17:20] night as South Africa secured the hardf 1-0 [00:17:23] victory over Burkina Faso at the Moole Rashid Stadium [00:17:27] in Casablanca to cleanch a sports in the women's africa cup of nations cut [00:17:31] of finals um definitely you had South Africa entering that final [00:17:35] group B match under immense. pressure as they had to deal [00:17:39] with so much following a shock 2-1 opening defeat against [00:17:43] Tanzania not forgetting the four goal still meet against [00:17:47] um ivory coast we'll leave your highlights of that and when we get back we'll be talking [00:17:50] more about the super [00:17:51] falcons [00:20:21] talking about the women's africa cup of nations and the super falcons of Nigeria [00:20:25] will take on the Cleopatras of Egypt in that critical final group C match while [00:20:28] Malawi and Zambia will slugged out a high sticks encounter, it must [00:20:32] be said for the southern African derby to see who progresses [00:20:36] through. [00:20:43] champions, Nigeria Super Falcons will take on Egypt in the final [00:20:47] group C fixture the 2026 Women. Africa cup of nations [00:20:51] tonight and the highly enspated continental clash is shadow to take place at the [00:20:55] state Olympic de Rabat in Morocco. Nigeria bounces into [00:20:59] this match needing a comprehensive victory to guarantee automatic [00:21:02] progression into the quarterfinals as well as skip their 227 [00:21:06] FIFA Women's World Cup qualification hopes alive. Following an [00:21:10] opening 3-2 shock defeat to Malawi along strike from seasal [00:21:14] shoala secured the vital 1-il win over Zambia to [00:21:17] place Nigeria second in the group with three points. Meanwhile, Egypt occupies the [00:21:21] bottom of group C with zero points after being eliminated via successive [00:21:25] defeats, including six-nail Thrasion by Zambia. A win [00:21:29] secures the sports in the top two of group C, while if Zambia defeats [00:21:33] Malawi in the simultaneous fixture a three-way tie at six points, [00:21:37] will force carf to determine the advanced teams fire head-to-head [00:21:41] records. This is how group C looks ahead of tonight's decider. [00:21:45] Malawi sits comfortably at the top of group C with six points after [00:21:48] securing successive victory. is a match the one and two, the group remains wide [00:21:52] open, headed into the final matches tonight with Zambia and Nigeria [00:21:56] b tide on three points each, while Egypt occupies the bottom spot [00:22:00] with no points and have been mathematically [00:22:03] eliminated. [00:22:09] on the other side the break, we definitely be speaking someone who understands women's [00:22:13] football inside out. TBC Sports [00:22:16] desk. [00:22:20] Thank you very much for staying with us, now joining us live on the show is football [00:22:24] commentator chidi Izyani. chid, good evening, it's good to have you [00:22:28] on the show, hi, thank you very much, thank you for [00:22:32] having me, thank you so much, it's all about the super falcons that made [00:22:35] Nigeria proud over the decades, it must be said, 10 time [00:22:39] continental champions in record, um, extending performance we [00:22:43] saw from them at the last tournaments and this time around they [00:22:47] definitely have what it takes to make it through to the next [00:22:50] round after that shock the free to Malawi. what are your expectations [00:22:54] for tonight's game in terms of an overview before dove into the [00:22:58] nuances? well, first of all, this is the [00:23:02] first time uh we're having permitations in over [00:23:05] 10 competitions about the super falcons and for me it's a little [00:23:09] bit um worrying because we've never had to do this, we've always [00:23:13] skill through the group stages, but if there's anything we can take away from [00:23:17] that victory against Zambia is that the super falcons are still the [00:23:21] queens of africa because um going [00:23:25] a player down [00:23:26] and still holding out uh a very very fantastic uh [00:23:30] display by the girls um was really good my [00:23:33] expectations the super falcons they already know um [00:23:37] what the mathematics is um so the best they can do right now [00:23:41] is go out there today um score as many [00:23:45] goals as possible we have to be very clinical compact at the [00:23:49] back as usual and the midfield has to um [00:23:52] contribute more um towards um goal efforts [00:23:56] because I felt that was part the problems in the first game uh [00:24:00] yes we had few errors in defending here and [00:24:03] therefore some the goals we conceded but I believe we have [00:24:06] the team uh that can go out there and and score [00:24:10] goals we need to score goals we need to remove ourselves [00:24:14] um from any calculations uh at the [00:24:18] moment we have a a zero um goal [00:24:22] difference uh, which means that we need to make sure that [00:24:26] we get more than every other person in the group, because if it [00:24:30] comes down to the uh the head to head [00:24:33] where below malawi on the head to head about be on the head to [00:24:37] head, so the the main thing for the super falcons today is to [00:24:41] ensure that we uh score as many goals as possible to put ourselves [00:24:45] in the best position to to go ahead in this competition. [00:24:48] okay, delve beat into the team and what the tactical [00:24:52] setup may be, well that the super falcons will be missing to key players [00:24:56] o got red card in last game, you have [00:25:00] it as well who will be missing this due to suspension, yellow card [00:25:04] accumulation, how does this affect the team's balance and who do [00:25:08] you think madugu should field to replace these stairs to ensure that [00:25:12] the team doesn't miss them that much? [00:25:16] um, i believe the super falcons um have we saw [00:25:20] in the game against Zambia, Uchebe stepped into that defensive [00:25:23] roll and had fantastic game, I think she had better [00:25:27] handle on on Barbara Banda uh who [00:25:31] was really really who had the the the shirt the shirt [00:25:34] number of them so I believe Uchebe [00:25:38] can comfortably step into that role uh we also [00:25:41] saw I believe um coming to player right back [00:25:45] and she was she was very good in that position so I believe um [00:25:50] the the defensive situation is settled uh, the coach will now have to look [00:25:54] at his midfielders and see who would [00:25:58] be that creative drive, um, maybe [00:26:02] see [00:26:02] a situation, where uh Ajibade drops into the attacking role in [00:26:06] the midfield and he plays two strikers because like I said this [00:26:09] game is very important to us and we need [00:26:13] we need to score a lot of goals Aziza toshoala despite [00:26:17] the numerous calls [00:26:19] you know nigerians like to panic for no reason uh that [00:26:23] she's old she needs to retire she's proven over and over again that she is [00:26:26] what what she says she is she's a very good player still relevant [00:26:30] to the team and this is another game where we will need her, [00:26:34] so the coach will have to find um a striker to pair her [00:26:38] with, um uh kalau would have to improve [00:26:42] on her um game and also help this team [00:26:45] score so um in the midfield row the coach will have to look at what he [00:26:49] has uh which other winger can we bring in to [00:26:53] afford us to have a jibade go into that attacking [00:26:57] midfield row because i believe her playing there gives us added [00:27:00] advantage of scoring um extra goals in this [00:27:04] game. okay, let's talk about sisal shala whom you [00:27:08] mentioned, i know quite well after the first game where you know she had to come off the bench, [00:27:12] the where it talks about starting her and you know having experience counts [00:27:16] and the team the coach listen to those cris and she got the [00:27:20] goal early on, she made quite a handful of decent runs it must be said behind [00:27:24] the defense line against Zambia and but there were you know [00:27:27] chances that we're missed as well um do you think it's all about starting [00:27:31] her and banking on? experience or she could come off the bench, maybe [00:27:35] we should go for peace this time around, because the Egyptian difference, as it [00:27:39] seems, it looks like it's quite vulnerable and likes of aajibade as you've [00:27:42] mentioned can just really have a go at [00:27:44] it, um, you don't, you don't rest [00:27:48] your your your fastest horse for the second round, you have to [00:27:52] play aziza Toshuala from the start, um, nine minutes [00:27:56] into the game is against Zambia, she run past three [00:27:59] players uh to score that loan goal that won us the [00:28:03] competition uh the the game and I believe that it's [00:28:07] very important that Rashida um that Oshuala starts this [00:28:10] game uh she her presence alone would [00:28:14] attract defenders uh to her, it makes sure that [00:28:18] um she will create spaces for other players to come in and play, it's [00:28:22] quite unfortunate that it jide will not be [00:28:26] playing today because she's she usually capitalizes on those runs [00:28:29] from Ashwala to play - That's [00:28:32] why um Captain Ajibad would I would recommend her to [00:28:36] step into that role uh because it would give us another [00:28:40] advantage to have someone to capitalize on that definitely start [00:28:42] osuala is our best striker still and [00:28:46] we have to start our best legs we have to start our best [00:28:50] legs let me get your thoughts concerning the issue of playing certain [00:28:54] players out out of position again the beauty about you know [00:28:57] football especially from the fans is there's always a talking point [00:29:01] and we saw with social space debates about Madugo playing certain [00:29:05] players out of position, there was aloze mentioned even from the first [00:29:09] game esturanko as well was mentioned in there, do you [00:29:13] think it's all about experimenting against side that is deemed [00:29:17] um a weaker opponent as against Zambia and Malawi or you think [00:29:21] it will still retain faith in terms of playing you know the [00:29:24] players how he played them over the past two [00:29:26] games um i don't i don't necessarily [00:29:30] think the the coach has been ex experimenting quote uh so to [00:29:34] say, i think he has been trying to play the players [00:29:38] he trusts in those positions, um, but we are [00:29:42] a situation where a win is not [00:29:46] just enough, [00:29:47] we have to win and win well uh, which means that the coach would [00:29:51] have to look at his squad and and see what is possible, [00:29:54] like i mentioned in the right back position, alos was moved to the right back [00:29:58] position um um we we had an opportunity [00:30:02] to see oladico play and she was good, so I think any [00:30:06] any manager would [00:30:08] a news, wherever the big [00:30:12] news stories happening, we're get up to break it, [00:30:16] tv news first with [00:30:18] Britain. [00:30:45] On TVC Breakfast this morning, the federal government [00:30:49] opens the conversation on state police, seeking public [00:30:52] views to help shape its operational [00:30:55] framework.
