[00:02:18] in [00:02:20] of [00:02:21] in welcome back to tvc saturday [00:02:25] of breakfast um this entertainment time for us to talk about all things [00:02:28] entertainment and As usual, we have guest who is none [00:02:32] other than Apostle Immanuel Irine, will be discussing his [00:02:36] new project, meltdown is what he calls it, which is a film [00:02:40] focusing on mental health, trauma and unresolved [00:02:43] anger. This is Aposter Ireene's second film after his first [00:02:47] feature film as a producer, what [00:02:50] in about, what about us, which was released in Nigerian [00:02:54] cinemas in July 2024. Melt down explores [00:02:58] of emotional trauma, healing. and self-forgiveness and [00:03:02] stars timini dimmiima [00:03:04] of and then we have Effa amongst others, good morning pastor [00:03:09] in in your name, pastor emmanuel irin, thank you so much [00:03:13] for joining us, I'm also emmanuel, oh [00:03:15] and I'm glad to be emmanuel immanuel are usually, no [00:03:19] actually three, okay, okay, this [00:03:21] of is also immanuel, [00:03:22] and I'm emmanuel, I'm actually serious, I'm actually [00:03:26] in serious, I'm actually serious, something is happening. thank [00:03:30] you for having me, we are blessed to have you on the show, thank you, walk us [00:03:34] through this new uh movie, yeah, [00:03:37] and um, i saw the thriller last [00:03:39] of week and i was like, oh, [00:03:41] b, emmanuel, it's up again for another thriller that will blow the minds [00:03:45] of nigerians, mean, so [00:03:47] in um, [00:03:48] of jesus was amongst other things a storyteller, and he just told [00:03:51] captivating stories, and stories have a way of [00:03:55] driving home the point, because they bring you [00:03:58] into scenarios. [00:04:00] you can now see [00:04:00] in yourself in familiar situations who have been [00:04:04] here before and this is how i [00:04:06] a would act if it where me and all of that and that's why it drives lot of [00:04:10] conversations and that's why beyond semons [00:04:14] i'm really passionate about storytelling and [00:04:17] honestly the level of impact is totally different the kind of [00:04:21] feedback that i get and all of that yeah that's [00:04:25] that's why that informs my passion for story telling interesting so [00:04:29] noticed that on your instagram we don't see like clips of [00:04:33] it, is that [00:04:34] in like intentional? think i've only seen one post where you've spoken about [00:04:37] meltdown, um, so we're going to put more clips of, [00:04:41] did put a trailer, mean that's on [00:04:44] instagram, the post on your page, oh yes, yeah, maybe well, [00:04:48] my post has lot of uh updates, so maybe it's [00:04:52] somewhere down down, maybe we should just watch the trailer for those who have not seen it now, [00:06:54] when i saw that um trailer last week, i'm like, okay, [00:06:58] stop act, but then these people, we know them [00:07:02] to act differently, i'm talking romantically [00:07:06] in other movies, and then this is supposed to [00:07:09] portray christ like living, is that? Yeah, so [00:07:13] narrative entertainment is [00:07:14] a faith-based um organization, so we [00:07:18] may not necessarily be preaching in our presentation, yeah, [00:07:21] but uh, we want to leave the bread [00:07:25] crumbs, leave um faith based principles there and and [00:07:29] tell real life stories from the lens um the [00:07:33] logos of speak to us on the casting then why these set of [00:07:36] so that's part of that's part of what I'm saying like I [00:07:40] just come up with the story. and leave [00:07:43] it to professionals to do the casting so i don't do casting [00:07:46] myself right so the only person [00:07:50] picked was [00:07:51] omami [00:07:54] yes i am trying to uh before [00:07:58] you answer this question i was telling myself mean he's a pastor mean [00:08:01] i i have been i have been on movie sets and i know how crazy they [00:08:05] could be and and so on uh how do you how do [00:08:09] you [00:08:12] how do i [00:08:12] how do i put it now? how do you arrange a [00:08:14] movie [00:08:17] set? not to interfere with your believes and [00:08:21] your faith. that's number one. number [00:08:24] two, when i saw the thriller, i said he's a [00:08:28] pastor, come they are boxing each other and doing all this [00:08:32] and so on. you know, i think that's that's part the issues that we [00:08:35] have. um, we try to do church a [00:08:39] bubble, and that's why we don't prepare people for real life situation. because [00:08:43] everybody you see in their Sunday best is going to go to [00:08:46] offices, they're going to deal with real life issues, believe me, [00:08:50] sincerely, some christians have been punched and have [00:08:53] punched, and all of that, for instance, and that's [00:08:57] exactly what I'm dealing with, in in counseling lot of Christians, I've [00:09:01] seen that as spiritual as they are, as religious as they are, [00:09:05] they just have, yeah, self-limiting believes that [00:09:09] came from their trauma, the kind of upbringing that the... so lot [00:09:13] of people who are having struggles in marriage like the young [00:09:17] man in the movie is is not a prayer [00:09:20] issue, it's not a prayer issue and the kind [00:09:24] of feedback i've gotten from this we just speaks to that and [00:09:28] when it comes to movie sets, the truth [00:09:31] is everything rises and falls on leadership, [00:09:35] if the kind of person who is um putting together the [00:09:39] movie, lot of people are are intelligent, they are... [00:09:42] matter how rascally anybody wants to be, there are some things they [00:09:46] won't do in an embassy for instance and all of that, and so [00:09:50] we've never had any such issues, um, this is my fourth [00:09:54] project and my second release, mean i [00:09:56] said clean as a whistle, so for me what [00:10:00] inspires melt down, yes, is this [00:10:04] a personal experience or the experience of as [00:10:08] pastor, you meet a lot of people, and that's why you decide to come up with this? [00:10:12] Oh my god, counselling people, counselling [00:10:16] people, I mean it's proven psychologically [00:10:19] that lot of [00:10:21] people, the the way they act in. [00:10:25] marriage is a projection of how they had relationship [00:10:29] with their predominant caregiver when they were growing [00:10:32] up and so sometimes because i've [00:10:36] studied a bit the psychology just by seeing how people respond i [00:10:40] can ask questions and i'm right 90% the time [00:10:44] so if a child got used to um a caregiver not [00:10:48] being present [00:10:50] you know he will now develop what psychologist call an avoidance [00:10:53] attachment hm so now that kind of [00:10:56] person, now that kind of person, we [00:11:00] just discover that in in marriage, he's [00:11:03] reacting to presence, if you if you are the lovy dovy type, he will [00:11:07] react to it, he won't like to be held for too long, he won't like to be [00:11:11] hugged for too long, and he doesn't even understand why, [00:11:15] because his entire neurological [00:11:18] system has um attached those kind of [00:11:22] behaviors to being unsafe, [00:11:25] because if he brings himself to that point of [00:11:28] vulnerability, it will trigger the feeling of rejection that he had [00:11:32] repeatedly when [00:11:33] it was growing up, so now even the Bible talks about [00:11:37] renewing your mind, it's not just prayer, and so [00:11:41] time and time again i've seen prayerful [00:11:44] people, decent people, honest, in fact people who [00:11:48] are good individually, but are not good together, together, interesting, and [00:11:52] so those are kind of statistics, yes. the rate of [00:11:55] divorce in the country and i see that you play [00:11:59] a key role in ensuring that you councel young [00:12:03] people in the church and you said something that it's not about prayer [00:12:07] because we see lot of people come to the church to pray and at the end they get back home it's [00:12:11] not only about prayer it's only about prayer they get back home and it's something [00:12:15] else so how do we address this yes [00:12:18] so uh you know like i said think a [00:12:21] good scripture that puts case in point will be [00:12:25] Romans 12 where he says versus one and two, paraphrasing, [00:12:29] it says, [00:12:32] um, um, renew your mind, present your body's living sacrifice, and then renew your [00:12:36] mind, so there is what to do with your spirit, there's what to do with your [00:12:40] mind, like I said, if you have limited limiting [00:12:43] beliefs, case and points, the children of Israel were brought [00:12:47] out of Egypt, but Egypt was never brought out them, it's a [00:12:51] mind frame issue, it's it, so... even [00:12:55] though desert, their minds kept going back, they they couldn't [00:12:59] see themselves as better than slaves and all of that, it's [00:13:03] very hard to sell a vision to people who haven't seen [00:13:06] otherwise, and think it [00:13:09] is underestimated the [00:13:13] power for instance of growing up a wholesome family [00:13:16] where you saw your dad love his wife [00:13:20] consistently for years where you never saw him hit her or you [00:13:24] never saw... her whole insults at him and you [00:13:27] never saw all of that, lot of people don't understand the kind [00:13:31] of emotional stability, a girl who grew up a [00:13:34] household where her dad loved her and was present, [00:13:38] that's not a girl you can throw sweets at on the streets and then [00:13:42] you fall, mean back to the ground, exactly, [00:13:46] so those are the kind of things that we're trying to deal [00:13:49] with, not just the spiritual exercise part of it, [00:13:53] but using the word of God. as a as as as logos, as [00:13:57] logic, to create principles and patterns that can be [00:14:01] repeated and that can transform your life [00:14:04] in in the long term. so let's let's talk about this um trauma that [00:14:07] is um prevalent with youths, the [00:14:11] church is a place where some these people go and find the most [00:14:15] peace, while for others they have [00:14:18] their fair of trauma there, and i'm speaking to the [00:14:22] growing rape allegations. we hear happen in [00:14:26] churches, i don't know where you stand on that, what you [00:14:30] would say to the youths, to the pastors, and then i think there's [00:14:33] also this [00:14:35] um a game where it's not a game now for the lack of better [00:14:38] word, you calling out someone that's done something to [00:14:42] you at the church, but withholding that person's name, where do you [00:14:46] stand on that, do you think those people should actually call the name so that mean i [00:14:50] mean, i think that when it comes to serious issues like [00:14:54] rap fiable um essay [00:14:57] allegations, i think that criminal issues should be dealt you [00:15:01] know like criminal treated like criminal [00:15:04] issues you know so it's [00:15:07] different from every other thing, in fact the [00:15:11] moment is a criminal issue is no longer pastoral [00:15:13] matter, you you mean the the [00:15:17] right authorities should you take on take it up from [00:15:20] there um yes and the truth is and [00:15:24] that's part of what I was saying earlier, the church is not a [00:15:28] bubble, it's reflection of society, it's the same people in [00:15:32] society that are coming to church, and unfortunately even [00:15:35] though church... she's a saddled [00:15:39] with um immense responsibility, the reality [00:15:42] is that lot of people come to church too [00:15:46] late and this is it's just the same way an [00:15:50] a hospital you can there's some people who are dead arrival there are some [00:15:54] people who you know like we hear it all [00:15:58] the time if symptoms persist after three days [00:16:01] consult exactly so lot [00:16:05] of pastors have to do the work both both of [00:16:09] pastors and of parents, because you see people who are [00:16:12] who were never really um parented well and then you have to [00:16:16] start a fresh and teach them things that you shouldn't have to have taught them, [00:16:20] so um so it's not just [00:16:24] something that happens in religious settings even though the shock value [00:16:28] is higher there, but it's reflection of something that happens [00:16:32] everywhere and I don't think it's even more in religious institutions, like I [00:16:35] said the shock value is more there. [00:16:37] but it's it's an issue plaging our society. now let's go back to film [00:16:41] production. um, we don't have lot [00:16:45] of faith based movies in Nigeria. [00:16:49] I'm wondering why uh, we have, you are pastor and you are [00:16:53] into this business, how come you, you're [00:16:56] not uh putting films together that uh, [00:17:00] that are completely christian so to [00:17:04] say. mean, so first and foremost, my wife is also a movie. [00:17:08] and my wife has movies that are completely [00:17:11] Christian and like I [00:17:14] said is just when when Jesus comes on the [00:17:18] scene and he he says the kingdom of heaven [00:17:22] is like a marchant seeking goodly pers now that's something that is [00:17:26] relatable a business socio [00:17:29] economic sense yeah but it's also a kingdom [00:17:32] lesson so the truth is many times you want to [00:17:36] portray churches, pastors in the movie, as if that's [00:17:40] all the the world has to show, there are real life [00:17:43] issues, people, the average christian will go to church once [00:17:47] in seven days, what about those other seven days, what does the word of God have to [00:17:51] say about those days, [00:17:53] you know, and that's my preoccupation, and also I have [00:17:57] bias, I just feel like if I want to preach a sermon, I just preach a [00:18:01] sermon, I preach lot, I preach every day, every day, you get what [00:18:05] I'm saying, so I, I don't necessarily have to. in movies, there's no [00:18:08] rule that says that because I'm a pastor, I must preach, no, I'm just, I'm looking [00:18:12] at the movie industry generally, like in music, we have [00:18:15] afro bee, we have this, we have jazz, and believe me, there are so [00:18:19] many fit based movies, they [00:18:23] just, they just need more sponsorship, they just need more [00:18:26] encouragement, [00:18:28] you know, and and and all of that, let me be a bit personal [00:18:32] at the moment, because you've been so quiet here, [00:18:34] and I want to take you off your seats, um, how do you do the [00:18:38] balancing? okay, because I know you as [00:18:41] pastor, you father, yes, your teacher, so how do you [00:18:45] balance? you're also a storyteller, yes, so what time do you [00:18:49] have [00:18:50] to do all this, because i i told you earlier that your [00:18:54] service center in our god is do very well, thank you, so i know you as very busy [00:18:58] man, now doing storytelling, where's the [00:19:01] balancing? okay, so let's let's start with milk down, i was [00:19:05] on set. three [00:19:07] times throughout the whole two weeks [00:19:11] the about of casting i mean of shooting i was on set three [00:19:15] times and each the three times i wasn't there more than [00:19:18] two hours really oh yes so you were not you're not in the [00:19:22] movie is that yeah i i'm a movie [00:19:25] actually see you in the trailer anyway no it's [00:19:29] deliberate so you've re the [00:19:32] surprise for it's okay yeah [00:19:35] so um i'm not a movie I'm I'm I'm a [00:19:38] movie um so let me let me explain it this [00:19:41] way something that everyone can relate to you're trying to [00:19:45] travel and you want to be lazy with your packing so you just [00:19:49] throw all your clothes into the into the [00:19:53] traveling bag and you just realize that when you're trying to zip [00:19:55] it there isn't enough space also it appears but [00:19:59] then you now bring everything out and begin to fold [00:20:03] everything and then suddenly everything can fit I think that's that's a [00:20:06] parable of. my life that um, if you create a space for [00:20:10] everything and put everything a space, it you [00:20:13] be surprised how many things you can do, so i've built [00:20:17] systems, i'm i'm also releasing two music albums this [00:20:20] year, okay, mean obviously gospel right, [00:20:24] okay, you're a pastor of many [00:20:26] exactly, and look, he is just talented person, [00:20:30] happens to be pastor, you can put it [00:20:33] that, but i think that... the [00:20:37] the analogy give, and this is the same way we have [00:20:41] stereotyped the application the word of God, we have [00:20:44] lights in this studio, and if a place [00:20:48] is dark and suddenly light. start shining, you look at the light and that's [00:20:52] good, you can observe the light, but most importantly the purpose the light is [00:20:56] that because the light you can see other things, not that you see the light, but because [00:21:00] the light you can see other things, so we like to look at [00:21:03] theology, we like to enjoy church services, but the real [00:21:07] purpose is to take that light into [00:21:10] society, so that's one of my core [00:21:13] assignments and so that you can find Jesus in [00:21:17] music, Jesus in movies and have real social [00:21:21] impact and that's why I'm doing what I'm doing to also model it for other [00:21:25] Christians to say, listen, this is the purpose of light, [00:21:29] because I mean the kind of the kind [00:21:32] of impact that the movies have had, the kind of conversations they [00:21:36] spark, the kind of people who have come into you know my [00:21:39] DM and the kind of, I mean you you be, you'l be shocked, so are you also having [00:21:43] plans to go into politics because you you've done everywhere, the last [00:21:47] time I was here, you people. i have [00:21:51] i have no plan whatsoever [00:21:54] whatsever when is it when are you [00:21:58] releasing it? mean so a meltdown has been released in in the past [00:22:02] couple of days 10 days and counting now and you don't have to go to a [00:22:05] traditional cinema for it um we're doing [00:22:09] something innovative is an online cinema so you go to the [00:22:13] website watchmaildown.com and then [00:22:17] when you get the ticket it sends a link. to your [00:22:20] email and then you are able to watch it any device, anywhere in the [00:22:24] world. okay, before you go, i want you to pray for this [00:22:27] program, tvc breakfast generally, tbc news, [00:22:31] pray for lagos states and nigeria, [00:22:35] let's let's [00:22:40] okay, lord, i thank you for this platform and the platforms connected to [00:22:44] her, i thank you for legos it, thank you for [00:22:47] Nigeria, i pray, that your peace will prevail, you [00:22:51] said in your word that if your people who are called by your name will humble themselves and [00:22:55] pray and turn from their wicked ways, you will hear from heaven [00:22:59] and heal their land.
