[00:09:43] you know one awards in this international uh [00:09:45] competition, so I'm really very glad, not only that it will [00:09:49] promote Nigerian music in the US, which is the global [00:09:53] center of entertainment, it also build new [00:09:57] audience in the US, people begin to love Nigerian [00:10:01] music, because the entertainment was a big international event, [00:10:05] and thanks to the mask behind the [00:10:08] cutting, Anderson who started [00:10:12] this... was he grew up in Nigeria here and traveled to the [00:10:15] US at the age of 25 or so, this from IMO state, [00:10:19] he was rais in Nabia, so I'm I'm glad when he go to the [00:10:23] US, he did not go... to um [00:10:27] legal things, you was able to rediscover himself and discover that you could [00:10:31] showcase African music to the world, and since he started this [00:10:35] projects in 2013, it has been a global success, [00:10:39] so I'm really very happy about the [00:10:42] the uh outcome of this [00:10:46] uh, you know uh about the the performance of nigerians in the [00:10:50] international uh space and it's a challenge to all of [00:10:54] us people. [00:10:55] in the entertainment world that we can also do similar things in Nigeria, you [00:10:59] know, we can make Nigeria to be the center of uh [00:11:02] entertainment to have international award that are [00:11:06] domiciled in Nigeria so that great starts in the US, [00:11:10] in Asia can also come to Nigeria to receive award, I think we have [00:11:14] built that reputation you know, and I believe we can do it, you rap [00:11:17] music uh was like new kid on the block here, but [00:11:21] feno, I i'm i'm glad to say. [00:11:25] is uh flying a flag, yeah, absolutely, and also in the [00:11:29] area of comedy, nigerian also [00:11:31] won award, gospel music, you also came [00:11:35] top, so we are almost all rounder, you every area, we are [00:11:38] just, [00:11:40] you know, and thanks to the founding fathers of music in Nigeria, who started [00:11:44] this, before the advent of digital technology, all right, [00:11:47] and they laid that foundation, I'm happy that they were able to inspire a lot of younger [00:11:51] generation, that are now making us proud. [00:11:55] nothing, okay, bk, so so [00:11:58] uh, we are there, you [00:12:01] know, uh, Nigeria [00:12:04] is, also amongst the prophets, as they [00:12:08] say, we have the, we have the raw [00:12:12] talent, we have the sense of invention, oh [00:12:16] yeah, and um, we have the [00:12:20] tradition and culture to continue to stay [00:12:24] at the top of you. uh afro beat especially and um [00:12:27] even when it comes to movie making, [00:12:31] okay, we are also [00:12:32] exceptional, our [00:12:36] movies are watched all over the continent and beyond, in fact [00:12:40] if you try to [00:12:42] stop people in some [00:12:46] countries of africa from watching nigerian [00:12:48] movies, there will be [00:12:51] riot, because when we talk about the woods, Nigeria is [00:12:55] number three, Hollywood, Bollywood, the next one is nollywood, [00:12:59] yes, yes, yes, and uh, in terms of home [00:13:03] movies, we are just behind the [00:13:07] India, all right, so the Americans are not [00:13:10] crazy about home movies, but we have really done [00:13:14] well with, so we are a good place, in short, we are a good place, [00:13:18] and uh, these stars continue to make us proud and [00:13:22] they are going to be at the top for me. many years [00:13:25] davido, bona [00:13:29] boy, terms, um, even the [00:13:33] ira star, yeah, you [00:13:37] them, know, and whis kid who literally open the door for lot [00:13:38] you know, they will be at the top for a long [00:13:41] time, okay, so from the [00:13:44] hangout onclave, we are saying [00:13:48] Davids fino, congratulations, keep doing [00:13:51] it, all right, our next story is here, you know [00:13:55] the untamable fuel price hike in our country continues [00:13:59] toig trigger a buvel [00:14:02] you know bubble the protest by the day. the Nigeria [00:14:06] Labor Congress NLC has reacted characteristic [00:14:09] characteristic oh come on [00:14:12] characteristically by demanding immediate wage [00:14:15] awards and the sale of crude oil to local refineries [00:14:19] in Nira. Contextually though labor [00:14:23] demands at Germain. we want to say only that fuel pricing [00:14:27] has lot to do with tensions in the middle east, yes, [00:14:31] labor admits that the federal government is racing in money [00:14:35] from crude earnings, it's in fact a two edged [00:14:38] sword, while Nigeria struggles to meet its production [00:14:42] targets, even as we are dealing with pipeline vandalism [00:14:45] and under investment, we expect labor to be on the same page with [00:14:49] government, don't you? well, i think [00:14:53] the reality. is that in many [00:14:57] areas uh with labor we are on the same page, [00:15:01] we cannot deny the fact that the cost of living has gone [00:15:04] up, yeah, the cost of essentials of [00:15:08] life, even water that we call poor [00:15:12] water that we call pure water that we call - we call it poor [00:15:15] water we call pure water, it's gone up, everything, [00:15:19] gas, gasoline, foil, [00:15:23] basic things no gas so there is [00:15:27] no how that we can see how we [00:15:31] can be thinking of living with 7000 n [00:15:34] you so I agree with them you know. now at that [00:15:38] level, we should also be mindful the fact that there [00:15:41] are global um, mean we are working within the [00:15:45] rem of global contest, yeah that the f price is not [00:15:49] something that came out of [00:15:50] local, yeah, but because [00:15:54] the crisis the middle east, [00:15:56] you know, in Saudi Arabia, between Iran and the US, the [00:16:00] middle east between Ukraine and and Russia, so we [00:16:04] are also part of that international community, so whatever... happens in those [00:16:08] areas will affect us, the issue now [00:16:11] is what should be done, what should be [00:16:15] our objective response, because every country is coming [00:16:19] out with solutions to deal yeah with the challenges you [00:16:22] know based on the what is happening in the middle east so I [00:16:26] think um I agree with them in the area of [00:16:30] government coming out with certain uh palliatives in terms of [00:16:34] maybe we can the access we are making from good oil. you [00:16:38] can go into supporting transportation, [00:16:41] you know, mass transportation, we have done it in this country before, and [00:16:44] also to ensure that our local government, because every time we talk [00:16:48] here and when people talk on the street, it's as if the only institution we have is [00:16:52] the federal government, there are 774 local governments in this [00:16:56] country, yeah, there are 36 states, you know, so each [00:17:00] local government should find a way to invest in the agriculture where [00:17:03] possible, if you are talking about local governments in bayesa in ' [00:17:07] legos that [00:17:08] you know are aquatic area, they can go into fishing, so [00:17:12] we should not always be focusing on what i going to get from [00:17:16] abuja, [00:17:17] you know weekly, mean monthly allocation and all that, so our local [00:17:20] government uh leaders, the state governors should be [00:17:24] more creative in investing agriculture, so i think [00:17:28] if you can do this, and i also think one major problem is the lack of [00:17:32] social safety net, we don't have [00:17:36] social security system. so if anybody is ill, if [00:17:39] you want to deliver a public hospital now a place like lagos, [00:17:43] if you don't have at least 30, [00:17:46] if it operation, [00:17:47] you are talking about 200, so how do you expect [00:17:51] people to get that kind of money? so if you [00:17:54] have health insurance then you [00:17:58] can go to the, mean to [00:18:01] you can walk into any hospital even when you are see you don't have the money you will be attended [00:18:05] to, we don't have mortgage system. whereby you i can build [00:18:09] a house without necessary having the money over time about 30 years [00:18:12] i can begin to pay back gradually because if [00:18:15] you want to build a house in legos time you don't have 10 million for a start how do you want [00:18:19] to build it and how long will you take it to accumulate up to 10 million unless you [00:18:23] still so these are some the challenges that i think the government can look [00:18:27] at so that we can be able to cousion the impact of this uh [00:18:31] there's no that that we have made some you know we have advanced for [00:18:35] instance um some five some six five si years [00:18:38] ago one meeting up our target, but today Nigeria is [00:18:42] producing about 1.5 to 1.6 million barrels per that's [00:18:46] significant you know achievement and that means that we have been able to deal [00:18:50] with the problem of uh vandalization uh [00:18:54] criminal activities bunkering so it's a major achievement for this [00:18:57] country and we are also making advancem in the area of economic [00:19:01] growth you look at the foreign reserve you look at the volume of [00:19:05] funds that is going to state state and government, however, [00:19:09] there's a difference between growth and development, if the funds [00:19:12] are increasing, there must be, it must relate [00:19:16] to the, to the needs people, [00:19:18] the so I think these are some the area that we need to look at, but if [00:19:22] you just increase salary now, maybe to about 15000, I [00:19:26] can tell you of 30000, which is even still small, but if you don't [00:19:29] weigh the options very well, yeah, it may come out to be counterproductive, you just [00:19:33] discover that transfer to jump to another 500%, you... not [00:19:37] be able to meet up yeah b let [00:19:40] me uh start from the first part of [00:19:44] wali's intervention you know over time [00:19:47] somebody had said we still are suffering [00:19:50] from uh a prolonged [00:19:53] military interference you know [00:19:57] that the unitary system everything must [00:20:01] come from the top you know and so [00:20:03] on yeah um [00:20:07] and in terms of um even [00:20:11] apportioning blame everyone [00:20:15] thinks that it is the president that should be blame for [00:20:18] everything, they are not prepared to ask [00:20:22] questions, partinant questions their [00:20:26] governorts the local government chairman, they watch governors, [00:20:29] they watch local government chairman [00:20:33] know collect allocation every [00:20:36] month. questions are not asked about what is done with the [00:20:40] money, all questions that people want [00:20:44] to ask relate to the federal government, when you talk [00:20:48] about Nigeria, being multi Nigerians being [00:20:51] multidimensionally poor, but 70% of [00:20:54] us, lot [00:20:57] the factors that [00:21:00] make our people poor [00:21:03] are issues that can be addressed [00:21:06] frontally by the states, okay? [00:21:10] for example, the matter [00:21:12] of um transport [00:21:16] subsidy, there's no state in Nigeria that cannot... [00:21:21] take care of transport subsidy right, because [00:21:25] what they just need to do is some the monens that they [00:21:28] are dedicating to building bridges, you [00:21:32] know, provide bridges and all that, they can buy [00:21:36] high capacity vehicles for people to use and [00:21:40] subsidize. i've talked about [00:21:43] what governor zulum has done in b state, oh yeah, [00:21:47] whereby he bought these buses? buses [00:21:51] that run on electricity on [00:21:54] electricity, um, buses that are [00:21:58] run on CNG and it is 50 n [00:22:02] per drop, oh yeah, this is not [00:22:04] fiction, this is what we [00:22:07] saw, now how many states are trying to do [00:22:10] that or have even attempted to do [00:22:14] that, because that's subsidy, and what the man [00:22:18] said is look, we experience [00:22:22] a minimum of 15 hours of sunshine, if we [00:22:25] cannot exploit that [00:22:29] to give our people electric [00:22:32] cars, charge [00:22:36] by uh solar, then we've not done well for our [00:22:40] people, the same man puts [00:22:44] buses on the road to not just take students to [00:22:48] school, but to take [00:22:50] farmers to their farms located on the [00:22:54] outskirt the the state capital, in [00:22:57] fact secondary [00:23:00] school students, male and female are [00:23:04] supplied bicycles to take them from their [00:23:08] homes to their to their schools, they right to [00:23:11] school, especially in environments that are not too far far [00:23:15] apart, no the the way it is even those the schools are not usually not [00:23:19] even far from yeah, the are [00:23:21] localities, there are a big mega [00:23:25] schools all over the place, so that's a bus, yes, this is [00:23:29] b, yes, this one runs on [00:23:31] CNG, so 59, so that's [00:23:35] subsidy, Lagos can do it, every state can do it, [00:23:39] yeah, but if we are waiting for the federal government [00:23:43] to do everything, that is, when the other day when [00:23:46] I was talking about insecurity in the north, and I [00:23:50] expected Northern leaders to do much more, much more, some people are saying, oh, I did [00:23:54] the president, [00:23:55] you see, you see the kind of foolish statements that Nigerians make, so is [00:23:59] only a president that can solve all the problem, can [00:24:02] Trump, the president of America, a [00:24:05] country that is bigger than West Africa, can [00:24:09] he solve the problem the 50 states of [00:24:13] America, that's why you have [00:24:15] governance, governors must do lot [00:24:19] more. to take care the welfare of our people, because they [00:24:23] federating unit, because the resources are there, not just because the [00:24:27] are the resources to do that. okay, if in yube [00:24:30] somebody built the biggest mother and child hospital in [00:24:34] yube, and the same person he [00:24:38] has made dialysis [00:24:41] free, for everyone. did he take permission from the [00:24:44] federal government? no, so he's doing, and that's one the [00:24:48] poorest states in Nigeria. Yeah, but over there dialysis is [00:24:52] free, so since he can do [00:24:55] it, oters to can do it, I [00:24:59] will never be convinced that they can't do it, so some of what [00:25:03] the NLC is right in making these [00:25:07] demands, but this demand some [00:25:11] of it can be addressed by the federating units, this is [00:25:15] the point, transport subsidy for example, you look a country like Great [00:25:18] Britain. they subsidize transportation, oh yeah, they [00:25:22] will not subsidize energy costs, but they will subsidize [00:25:26] transportation so that people can go to work, [00:25:30] spend less money going to work, lot of our people, [00:25:34] including our staff here, the b their salary goes to [00:25:38] transport costs, the b of [00:25:42] people salaries go uh goes to um um [00:25:45] housing uh paying rent. [00:25:51] so there's a lot more that our leaders can do, there's [00:25:55] a lot more, so I agree that look, something must [00:25:59] give, because if this uh... [00:26:04] Iranians and the Americans who are fighting each other a [00:26:07] senseless war, if they continue, it will continue [00:26:11] to drive up prices of [00:26:15] energy cost diesel, diesel, no, everybody is [00:26:19] affected, oh yeah, that was the point I made here last [00:26:22] week, when people think, oh is by having refineries, [00:26:26] no, even if you have 1 million refineries, [00:26:30] as long as... "crude oil prices are [00:26:34] denominated in the in in dollars, what can help [00:26:37] us is for our own currency to become stronger, of [00:26:41] course you you draw attention to Texas, the largest state in [00:26:45] the US, and they have more than 20 refineries, yeah, that's state [00:26:49] alone, energy, [00:26:52] no, energy costs are high, it's is [00:26:55] everywhere, but they need to help, [00:26:59] like um, even wage awards, they can do wage" that states [00:27:03] can do wage awards, oh yeah, they don't have to wait for the federal authorities, [00:27:06] states can do wage awards and think even [00:27:09] um um has has done something like that, no [00:27:13] matter how small we have to give him credit for that, they can do [00:27:17] uh wage awards, i don't think a base uh crude [00:27:21] oil salell to is a bad idea, i know that [00:27:25] we have joint venture and all all of this that also [00:27:28] affect policy in this regard, but [00:27:32] we are faced with critical problem like [00:27:36] this, then we have to find a solution, because [00:27:40] we cannot wait for f prices to go to [00:27:43] 20 20 [00:27:47] per liter, that would be crazy, we can't wait, we [00:27:51] must do something, the president has said that by October [00:27:54] that the transport cost will come down, we are going we are trying to [00:27:58] see what he and the governors are planning [00:28:02] to do. we are eager to see that come down, at least that will [00:28:06] really help, it will go a long way, it will go a long way, [00:28:09] if if they drive down transport cost, it will go [00:28:13] along with all right, [00:28:17] again what we do is give context to the issues as they [00:28:21] come, so you must bear with us, our next [00:28:25] story is here, [00:28:27] you know, Nigeria's par situation is curious mix of [00:28:30] fragile national grid capacity. low [00:28:34] generation output and liquidity and debt [00:28:37] crisis. Perhaps more sharing is the recently [00:28:40] secured favorable international chamber of commerce [00:28:44] ICC arbitration ruling, rejecting claims [00:28:47] by sunrise power that clears a major legal hurdle [00:28:51] for the long stalled 1,500 [00:28:55] megaw mambilla hydro electric electric [00:28:59] project. Now president has welcome. the [00:29:02] tribunal ruling, stating that we would never succumbed [00:29:06] to predatory or opportunistic claims, we are ever [00:29:10] open to genuine partnerships and legal obligations, the president [00:29:14] added. meanwhile, some years [00:29:17] back, our own [00:29:19] btoju visited the site the mambela [00:29:23] hydropower project, i remember that scene to [00:29:26] investigate why the project had not taken off, he discovered some [00:29:30] staggering issues stalling the... execution the project, [00:29:34] one these is that there's no root leading to the project [00:29:38] site, which signified that nothing much has been done [00:29:42] about it. let's bring back this story just to [00:29:45] refresh the memory. let's go [00:29:47] there. [00:29:55] it has been more than 30 years of waiting for what could easily [00:29:59] become the biggest power project in Nigeria to kick off. The [00:30:03] Mamba hydropower project is estimated to cost the [00:30:06] nation 2.09 trillion naira, that is [00:30:10] about 5.8 billion US dollars. situated in the [00:30:14] heart of Mambilla, Nigeria's paragon of undefeated beauty, [00:30:18] in Saddana Local Government of Taraba State, getting to the project [00:30:22] site is a big challenge that tax one's body and soul. [00:30:26] It begins with a 6-hour trip from Jalingo, the taraba state [00:30:29] capital to Kakara, the famous home of Highland. and a [00:30:33] 15 minute ride on multiterrain vehicles to Amadu [00:30:37] village. Even the best of multiterrain vehicles cannot [00:30:41] go beyond this point. I'm getting [00:30:44] set to go to the site the Mambilla [00:30:48] Hydropower plant project, one the [00:30:52] three big [00:30:55] waterfalls from which [00:30:58] the water.
