[00:00:17] At [00:00:17] in TVs and [00:00:18] of news, wherever the big news stories happening, we're get up to [00:00:22] break it. TVs news first with [00:00:25] of [00:00:28] a breaking. [00:00:49] The Trump administration [00:00:50] of rejects all seven candidates of vine for the UN secretary general [00:00:54] job and maintains it will only support [00:00:56] of candidate with strong interest in global reform and commitment. to President Trump's [00:01:00] ideas for the leadership [00:01:02] of the United [00:01:03] Nations, [00:01:07] and also to come on the program [00:01:08] a is President Trump's alleged agreement between Russia and Ukraine on [00:01:11] energy [00:01:12] seasfire. [00:01:30] As a world await a permanent si fire in the war between Russia and Ukraine, the United [00:01:34] States President Donald Trump has announced immediate energy cease [00:01:38] fire between [00:01:39] of both sides, but [00:01:40] of President Trump's Ukraine's president rather, Voladimir Zelenski says his [00:01:44] country is still waiting details [00:01:46] of the proposed arrangement. With a post on his truth social [00:01:50] platform, President Trump announced the agreement on Sunday, [00:01:53] declaring that is fire was effective immediately, urging [00:01:57] both nations not to violate it. The US president did not provide [00:02:01] details [00:02:02] of the terms [00:02:02] of the [00:02:03] of ceasefire of and Russia has not publicly confirmed the arrangement, [00:02:07] but Ukraine's president [00:02:08] a says he supports the proposed fire emphasizing that Russia [00:02:13] a must also agree to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy [00:02:20] of a infrastructure. [00:02:21] of [00:04:35] journalists on journalist hangout [00:04:58] trump said he has broker between. Russia and Ukraine and is an energy [00:05:02] seasfire, it means that both sides would stop attacking each other's [00:05:20] you live in the US, I'm sure that you've been following the story, President Trump says that both [00:05:23] parties agreed, and before what we are hearing from President [00:05:27] Zelensky is that he's yet to see the terms [00:05:30] the agreement, he initially said that it was news to him, he learned [00:05:34] from social media, cremlin has also has not [00:05:38] also said anything, can you have sice fire where one party f [00:05:42] out from truth social and the other doesn't confirm confirm at [00:05:46] all? well, this this is just [00:05:50] testament of how the present administration [00:05:53] handles uh diplomatic situations. um, this [00:05:57] is not the first time we're seeing things of this nature, especially coming from [00:06:01] this administration, it's a it's a it's it's [00:06:05] a it's a different way, it's it's a different political [00:06:08] landscape and everybody is [00:06:12] very surprised and uh [00:06:15] you know just going back if [00:06:17] you look at the antecedent is [00:06:18] you would not [00:06:20] uh [00:06:20] this you would realize the that first time um that you [00:06:24] will you know get information or obtain information [00:06:28] via the internet or social media knowing fully [00:06:32] well that um this is not [00:06:35] this is not protocol this is not what you know it's everyone's [00:06:39] used to however uh things are definitely uh [00:06:43] changing politically, economically, and [00:06:47] um, this is just the way that the current administration wants [00:06:50] to tackle the issue, however, um, it's [00:06:54] one-sided most definitely, and [00:06:58] um, I'm pretty certain that we're not going to hear, this is [00:07:02] not the end of it, this is just the start, and just talking [00:07:06] about not been the end, um, as after the announcement, president Zelenski [00:07:10] said, Russia hit her key power plant. and lost the shahit [00:07:13] all day, um, if Russian drones are [00:07:17] still in in sky after effective immediately that present some [00:07:20] said, was c fire broke out between both parties, [00:07:24] um, is this sice fire that never happened or or rather [00:07:28] um, is sice that [00:07:29] this fire never existed? some [00:07:33] um analysts are the opinion that it probably could have [00:07:36] been another stunt by the present united state [00:07:39] administration to uh cohars or... or try [00:07:43] to force or entice both parties, I'm talking [00:07:47] about Russia and Ukraine back to the drawing board or to the negotiating [00:07:51] table uh based on that fact, speculations and [00:07:55] and forest forest agreement out in the [00:07:58] media, so they might be compelled to actually have sitdown and [00:08:02] have this dialogue or conversation. now will that work, that's also up [00:08:06] in the air, however there are uh some really [00:08:10] fundamental issues going on um "the price of [00:08:13] diesel is astronomical right now and it is [00:08:16] affecting um everyone across board, [00:08:20] particularly farmers in the United States and [00:08:24] price of diesel is very unaffordable, [00:08:27] however the meet is up in the corner um elections so [00:08:31] in in some areas are already begun and um [00:08:35] every every administration currently is trying to score [00:08:38] a chip political goal and that would be if [00:08:42] possibly they could have prices of diesel to go down [00:08:46] and what other way that you could do that [00:08:50] is to you know just pull that and see [00:08:53] if that that's going to be a thing so [00:08:56] again uh it's it's something that's [00:08:59] definitely we could hear some more details before the end of [00:09:03] today however uh it's very unfortunate that we're hearing the [00:09:07] news uh from the social media platform but [00:09:11] then again politically things to changing [00:09:14] drastically and um we're just going to have to wait [00:09:18] and see how this unfolds eventually [00:09:21] so if you remember we had this um exact headline in mid September President Trump announce [00:09:25] that this is fire and neither side confirmed as strikes [00:09:28] continue is it sort of repeat of announcement you know using [00:09:32] a announcement as some some sort of [00:09:35] policy well the announcement can always [00:09:39] come what we need is actual uh of [00:09:42] hostilities from both sides, there have been talks and conversations in the [00:09:46] past where uh the president administration [00:09:50] at um indicated that they have told but parties not to [00:09:54] attack their basic infrastructure, [00:09:57] especially oil and gas and all of that, but that's i mean [00:10:01] it's a war and nothing is off the table and that's what [00:10:04] is kind of playing out, but these has a [00:10:08] larger and a bigger effect globally and [00:10:12] and um recently we just had the president uh publicly [00:10:16] chestised uh the Ukrainian counterpart is Ukrainian counterpart [00:10:20] and calling for fresh elections in Ukraine uh I mean you could [00:10:24] tell like the... there is a love hate relationship [00:10:27] between uh president Trump and and [00:10:30] Zelensky currently, but then again [00:10:34] um the the president, I mean the United State president is known [00:10:38] to you, sometimes changes mind a naked [00:10:42] time or or any time he chooses or [00:10:45] wants to, so again this is all a [00:10:49] political theater and we're all you know [00:10:52] spec, it's it's a it's a huge spec. practical and it's just the [00:10:56] way that things are going, it's very different, it it's not [00:11:00] conventional like we used to, so uh fingers in the [00:11:04] air or fingers crossed, there's no saying this [00:11:08] we're not very certain how it's going to go, but definitely [00:11:11] people are still dying, prices are [00:11:15] are astronomically getting unaffordable across board [00:11:19] is is affecting every country in every corner the world and [00:11:23] it just has to be solution to this. [00:11:25] and then again who knows, maybe this might be uh a [00:11:29] way to actually come have them come together and negotiate [00:11:33] and have dialogue, so who knows if this is actually gna [00:11:36] work at this time, but again it's still up in the air, [00:11:40] but if you protect energy right, but allow strikes on [00:11:44] everything else, bridges, um, apartment blocks, [00:11:48] um, frontlines, is it humanitarian [00:11:51] step or just protecting oil price while work? [00:11:55] continues for civilians, it's a [00:11:59] legitimate question, but then again, um, [00:12:02] there are some conventions of war and some some things [00:12:06] that's like nogo area when it comes to war, but like I said [00:12:10] before, when it comes to this type of war, which [00:12:14] is um, all connected and [00:12:18] there's a multi-dimensional way that you could look at it or think about [00:12:22] it, um, some people are cing of [00:12:25] patrition, it's just not just when on the surface [00:12:29] we're looking at Ukraine and Russia, but there's so many strings attached to it, [00:12:32] this a multiple uh number of countries that [00:12:36] are for and and and against so uh [00:12:40] multi faceted I would say, but yes uh [00:12:43] civilian lives and property, especially civilian infrastructure [00:12:47] should be no go, but um when it comes to war uh [00:12:51] and in this case where we're learning the hard way that nothing... is off the [00:12:55] table and uh people are dying, which is uh [00:12:58] despicable and unfortunate, and the only way [00:13:02] that that could be salvaged, it's to have some form of [00:13:06] normalcy, and the first step to normalcy is to achieving [00:13:09] normalcy is to make sure that both [00:13:13] counterpart, the Russian side and the Ukrainian side come back to the [00:13:16] drawing board and [00:13:19] I want to ask you because just because of what you said both sides [00:13:23] come back to the drainboard. both know that President Putin is not want to because into [00:13:27] agreements like this, he doesn't also seem desperate to get out the [00:13:30] wall, and so what what's a likely chance that he he agrees to [00:13:34] an agreement like this that he found are probably on truth [00:13:37] social? well, a [00:13:41] bunch of incentive going on right now, if [00:13:45] first of all when [00:13:46] the president um stated recently that he is in [00:13:49] talks with the uh Russian president to [00:13:53] have themselves. diesel to the international [00:13:57] market to open up the market a little bit for for [00:14:00] folks to get diesel coming from the russian side, that is a [00:14:04] great relief for for the russian president, [00:14:08] because now he has money to fund this war, but [00:14:12] again that has to there has to be some form of [00:14:16] authorization from congress, now that has not happened [00:14:19] yet, now this is been touted in on social media so [00:14:23] everyone is going to see that now could there be bait [00:14:27] from the current administration to see if that would work out and see [00:14:31] if the Russian president will actually take it [00:14:35] up and come and and negotiate and and find a solution because [00:14:39] they're also cash trap, there's so many uh blockage as far [00:14:42] as uh their finances out there uh which is kind [00:14:46] of affecting them socially and economically, however um [00:14:50] this could be tactics and and the only way that we could justify [00:14:54] or... or give credit to the current administration if this um [00:14:58] pulls through and the uh and and and the Russian [00:15:02] president actually uh takes it and then we have the [00:15:06] Ukrainian side also come back and negotiate [00:15:09] so again it's a tactics it's [00:15:13] very possible where they accept it is up you know it's it's up to them but there's [00:15:16] always a leverage from both sides and and um [00:15:20] we're just waiting for uh you know one them to flinch and see if [00:15:24] this is going to happen, but again, it's it's a very [00:15:28] unfortunate decision and situation, and uh, we just have [00:15:32] to kind of continue to encourage them [00:15:36] to come back to... because that's the [00:15:46] i heard i have few minutes, i just want wanted to ask you, i'm [00:15:50] not likely, but if both sides agree, could it become the [00:15:53] pathway to a broter agreement? [00:15:57] well, it seems that both [00:16:01] sides are really interested in seeing each other, because there's so many lives [00:16:05] have been lost in um. those lives uh [00:16:08] cannot be, there's no amount of dialogue that can you know [00:16:12] bring those lives back and and those infrastructure running into billions of [00:16:16] dollars uh it's going to take years and years to rebuild uh things are are really [00:16:20] going bad for both sides regardless but then again if they [00:16:24] could be a constructive uh conversation from both [00:16:27] sides the isle to have maybe a little bit of [00:16:31] agreement in in both sides maybe we could start off with [00:16:34] sensation of hostilities temporarily and and and maybe that would [00:16:38] be pathway to a broader success in this [00:16:42] war. well, [00:16:59] let's to development in the UN where the process is on process is [00:17:02] ongoing for the choosing of new secretary general to take over [00:17:06] from antono guuter. whose second term and of second and final [00:17:10] five-year term ends this year, but the Trump administration has [00:17:14] opposed all contenders for the topmost state, saying none the [00:17:18] contenders in agreement with President Trump's world view and [00:17:22] his desire for drastic changes to the global body. The US [00:17:26] government slashed is contributions to the body through its withdrawal from multiple [00:17:29] UN organizations, including the World Health Organization. It [00:17:33] created his own body, the board of peace, to take over planning for the future. future [00:17:37] the demolished gaza strip. Just like other permanent members the security [00:17:41] council, the US has the ability to vito any candidate for the [00:17:45] post. The current field of seven candidates includes [00:17:49] mostly career diplomats, a former Costa Rica's Vice President [00:17:52] Rebecca Greenspan is consistently pulling ahead. The [00:17:56] state department says the US will only support nominee who shows [00:18:00] an unwavering commitment to drive meaningful global [00:18:29] you so much, we do appreciate that, now for getting to the [00:18:32] conversation for 80 years, um, the US has never had to love [00:18:36] the UN secretary. general, they just have to tolerate whoever the person [00:18:40] is, but now the Trump administration wants someone who publicly commits to [00:18:44] changes uh that it Trump administration requires, I just want to get your [00:18:47] reaction to that. [00:18:51] Well, um, it's not impossible and I, I guess [00:18:55] um, Trump is trying to put [00:18:59] his money where his mouth is, uh, [00:19:02] being the biggest funder, I mean US is the biggest [00:19:06] financier of... United Nations and under Donald Trump [00:19:10] we've seen uh US pulling out of number of [00:19:14] UN agencies including the World Health Organization [00:19:18] and then some other uh bodies and this time [00:19:22] around it was to be sure that whoever [00:19:25] images as the next secretary general or scribe of [00:19:28] UN uh as the interest of US [00:19:32] at that and in somebody is pro [00:19:35] Trump but question to as is how would the [00:19:39] other UN security [00:19:41] council uh allow us to [00:19:45] get his way given the fact that [00:19:49] there are five them who can actually vete to uh the [00:19:53] nomination and it's like [00:19:57] the US is taking delete unless it has [00:20:00] coveredly gotten the [00:20:03] approval of other UN member [00:20:07] like France, UK, China and [00:20:09] Russia, um, we might be heading to a [00:20:13] situation where the chief cribe of un position may [00:20:17] not be filled for some time to come, and that will be [00:20:20] very tragic situation, because that will further paralyze the United [00:20:24] Nations. Now, if the US blocks this one, [00:20:28] um, because like you know to win, the candidate needs nine out of nine votes out of [00:20:32] 15, and no veto from the five big powers, now if the US [00:20:36] blocks these um this seven and Russia and China decides to [00:20:40] block the next ones uh or any one that the US [00:20:43] prefers, what happens on January 1st, what would be the implication [00:20:47] of not having a new United Nations Secretary? [00:20:50] general: precious, two things will [00:20:54] likely happen is either the UN will [00:20:57] extend the term of antonio guterez for [00:21:01] maybe six months or three [00:21:02] months, or uh, they [00:21:06] will defer the appointment of new [00:21:10] secretary general, in which case the [00:21:13] UN will be without a [00:21:17] secretary general until when there is an... agreement a [00:21:20] possible candidate and this is worrison for me [00:21:24] because the UN has [00:21:26] really uh has become like a [00:21:30] toothless bulldog has been weakened to his [00:21:33] knees um is what the worlds of UN does not [00:21:37] even carry weight again you could see that even the recently [00:21:41] conducted and uh recently add UN general assembly [00:21:45] about 60% of those who attended were [00:21:48] represented uh about 60% of world [00:21:51] leaders that were in attendance were represented [00:21:55] either by their foreign ministers or their vice [00:21:58] president which shows that it has become more of [00:22:02] a of a talk show and so I i [00:22:06] think I will not I will not blame America [00:22:10] um even now that US has [00:22:14] caught uh funding to the United [00:22:17] Nations uh the UN is... now [00:22:20] looking on possible reforms of his [00:22:23] institutions like margin some of his agencies [00:22:26] and relieving some the stuff, but [00:22:30] US is still not satisfied and that has left UN with [00:22:34] about 4 billion dollars in budget deficit, [00:22:38] so um as it were [00:22:41] is that Donald Trump gets his way or the [00:22:45] that will be founding paralysis for the for the [00:22:48] UN, the... Rebecca Graspan [00:22:52] from Costa Rica who is actually topping the [00:22:55] opinion um former vice [00:22:58] president of costa rica [00:23:01] uh is is is is [00:23:05] not enjoying the US support [00:23:09] because the critical comment she allegedly has made about [00:23:13] Israel uh and then the soft position [00:23:17] on China and that is what uh see is all [00:23:20] about uh unlike Nigeria where we just play [00:23:24] father Christmas, the world leaders are no longer doing [00:23:28] that, they are actually demanding - [00:23:31] certain um privileges or should i say [00:23:35] certain um results before [00:23:39] they can commit their resources to funding [00:23:43] agencies uh that that [00:23:46] where they are playing any critical role so... it's it's in [00:23:50] the lighting best interest of us to make this [00:23:54] demand, but whether it will enjoy the support of [00:23:58] 14 other members of that part of [00:24:00] that um uh council uh the [00:24:04] five security members and the 10 non-permanent ones whether [00:24:08] they will enjoy whether they will support let me just come [00:24:12] in because we have a little time left [00:24:14] and wanted to ask you about the African voice in the in the um organiz [00:24:18] that organization and means United Nations, we both know that we're not part, [00:24:22] Africa is not part of, it's not a permanent member the security [00:24:26] council, what does it mean mean for the African voice if they're not able [00:24:29] to at least have saying who becomes United nations security uh secretary [00:24:33] general, united nations secretary general [00:24:35] rather? well, what can [00:24:39] we do? we actually are not at the we are not getting seat [00:24:43] at the table and that's why even the recent call by [00:24:46] president inugu for two permanents it is just a which. [00:24:50] thinking which as i have said even on this platform may [00:24:54] not happen, the reason being that one this position in for [00:24:58] instance is rotational and it is the turn of latin america to [00:25:01] produce the next secretary general, but [00:25:05] be that as it me, we have f talks [00:25:08] about jan infantino, fifa [00:25:12] president being considered by donald trump, infantino is [00:25:16] from Italy, it's not from latin america, then "there's a [00:25:20] bulgarian that is also being considered, it tells you that the [00:25:24] law is for the enemy, the exemptions are for your friends [00:25:27] and when a nation [00:25:31] put its own interests first like Donald Trump has tried [00:25:35] to do, America first, this is what you see, [00:25:38] Africa will continue to grown and moon, but what can [00:25:42] they do, uh, the are they are actually secondary [00:25:46] players in the UN, in the UN." [00:25:50] general assembly and until when we ourselves get serious with [00:25:54] our leadership, solving our leadership challenge and [00:25:57] continuing to uh be less dependent on [00:26:01] this... western world or the eastern block or [00:26:05] whatever uh we will never be taken serious and that is why [00:26:09] you know i have taken a position that let african [00:26:13] leaders first looking what try to solve their [00:26:16] governance challenge and put themselves a po [00:26:20] position where they will be able to [00:26:23] negotiate a strong term with the [00:26:27] rest the world not uh being perceived as begger [00:26:30] nations where every opportunity, you are asking for [00:26:34] favor trade uh tr, you are begging [00:26:38] for uh investment in [00:26:41] security, you are begging for investment in trade [00:26:45] and uh commerce, you are also [00:26:49] begging support and all of that, perhaps it's [00:26:53] time for the african you to start his voice, especially on a very critical matter like [00:26:56] this, but we'll
