[00:00:03] of [00:00:03] in [00:00:10] At TVs and news, wherever the big news stories happening, [00:00:14] we're get up to a great [00:00:17] of it. Today on the program, federal [00:00:40] government [00:00:41] of brings home another 111 Nigerians from South [00:00:44] Africa and meet fears [00:00:46] of of xenophobic attacks. [00:00:50] Road's vival [00:00:51] in and 15 others make inex Lagos Governorship [00:00:55] lists and later on the show presidency for closes return of [00:00:58] petrol subsidy. backs NNPCL's target of [00:01:02] 1,350 nar per liter cost [00:01:06] sealing, well I'll be hanging out with Gani Kaidi, [00:01:10] GKB and Ismile uho joins us from our Buja [00:01:14] studio. Journalist Hangout starts right [00:01:17] now. [00:01:30] Now let's begin the conversation: migration should [00:01:35] of of offer opportunities, not expose migrants to hatred [00:01:38] of and danger. The federal government has evacuated another [00:01:41] 111 Nigerians from [00:01:44] of South of Africa ameid concerns over xenophobic and [00:01:47] Afrophobic attacks. The returnees comprising [00:01:51] 44 men, 23 women and 44 [00:01:54] children arrived in Lagos on the 8th of October. Their return [00:01:58] brings the total number. of Nigerians evacuated from [00:02:02] South Africa since [00:02:06] of of June to 2037 with the latest barch of repetation funded by donation from [00:02:09] the redeemed Christian Church of God (RSCG). Now what [00:02:13] does this continued evacuation say about the safety of [00:02:17] Nigerians abroad and the efforts to address [00:02:21] xenophobia? now I mean GKB Nigers [00:02:24] evacuated 2037 citizens from South [00:02:28] Africa since June. talk to me, what's your assessment [00:02:31] of Niger's response since this crisis [00:02:34] began? [00:02:36] of well, the government has done very well, they [00:02:40] started very slowly, as you all know, lot [00:02:43] of people [00:02:44] of are complaining that they were not picked up on time, but as [00:02:48] things went on, they got into their [00:02:50] groove. this is not what we want to be talking about [00:02:54] in agitas of today, exactly, we have serious challenges across the [00:02:58] board. but the case of South [00:03:02] of Africa of has become endemic, both in [00:03:05] a shape and [00:03:05] in form, buse you people decided that their [00:03:09] fellow brothers and sisters, he wanting to [00:03:12] a say they've broken the law, and then you take those who have [00:03:16] of broken the law and you repatriated them, so I want [00:03:18] you to just have a blanket reason to get [00:03:22] everybody out of yeah, South Africa, nobody wants [00:03:26] of criminal in their countries, but most [00:03:27] of these people are children, they are... women, their children, they've [00:03:31] done nothing wrong apart from look for better opportunities [00:03:35] and to continue living what they [00:03:38] of thought was an ideal situation, but having said [00:03:41] of that, our people need to be [00:03:44] of worry of countries that they go [00:03:46] of to, and things that they do, because I don't see this thing ending [00:03:50] any anyt zo, because you and I know [00:03:54] that there are serious [00:03:55] of economic crisis in South Africa, unemployment, and [00:03:59] then the level, the gap [00:04:01] of between the rich and the poor, is getting wider and [00:04:05] of wider, so the easiest targets are [00:04:08] of migrants, it's not talking about south africa, it's all over the world, [00:04:12] even in some countries, a man in the UK who [00:04:15] said they [00:04:17] of should, they should burn nigerians and all [00:04:20] a that, when a sit, so things like this [00:04:24] are these dangerous rhetorics are not limited to south [00:04:27] of africa, but is more profound, in the [00:04:31] south African system. All right, Ismail, let's go to Ismail from our [00:04:35] studios. I mean, should the government be doing more [00:04:38] than returning the [00:04:40] of student and the migrants [00:04:42] of back to Nigeria. Do you think we should be doing more than [00:04:44] that? Well, of [00:04:48] course, um, there is no government that [00:04:51] will want to watch each citizen anywhere [00:04:54] suffer, unless of course, if that government is [00:04:58] irresponsible or incapable of doing [00:05:01] anything and [00:05:03] of since this crisis started uh from the [00:05:07] report, i think we have had [00:05:10] of about 15 evacuations, even though... This latest one [00:05:13] was uh fonded by the RCCG Redeem [00:05:17] Christian Church [00:05:18] Association [00:05:22] Christian church and we must give them kududos and I think the federal [00:05:25] government through the ministry as acknowledged you know that [00:05:29] effort and um from the [00:05:33] report I read I think um the fund they [00:05:37] raised was over [00:05:40] $200. [00:05:44] to fund the evacuation of um 500 [00:05:48] Nigerians from South Africa back [00:05:52] to Nigeria and I think so far uh they [00:05:56] have evacuated 318 [00:05:59] leaving 182 more but that is not to say that the [00:06:03] federal government to has not been upon doing in that [00:06:06] regards uh I think federal government has brought [00:06:10] in 1,3 [00:06:14] Okay uh, like my other brother said over there, [00:06:17] um, nobody will tolerate a [00:06:20] criminal within its meat, but you see it is not always [00:06:24] good to make a generalization, sometimes when I [00:06:28] watch the video of some Nigerians that have been attacked in [00:06:32] South Africa, I feel very, very sad and I [00:06:35] well, [00:06:36] there was a particular one, there was a exchange between the Nigerian [00:06:40] and the South African and... [00:06:43] the man was trying to explain that look this business is operating you [00:06:46] know on [00:06:48] their land employees h their citizen and [00:06:52] that if he closes it down that their own people to suffer [00:06:55] but when government tries [00:06:58] to uh play like i don't care [00:07:02] attitude you know when when we [00:07:06] are in when we're in the season of [00:07:08] election uh politicians lch on [00:07:12] anything to get to power, from some the [00:07:16] reports we are reading, the political [00:07:19] class appears to see it as a political [00:07:22] suicider to openly speak against the [00:07:26] xenophobic attacks happening in south africa, but [00:07:29] but you allow the natives, [00:07:33] yeah, looking at what you just said, do you think we've been too [00:07:37] diplomatic and not assertive enough on this [00:07:41] issue or? ly speaking, must confess to you, we've [00:07:44] been [00:07:45] too linient with the South African government, [00:07:48] i support the idea of persons [00:07:52] who argued that we probably should have [00:07:55] touched some their economic interests, because you see, unless [00:07:59] you sometimes unless you hold a human being by a [00:08:02] scrutum, you are not likely to get what you want from [00:08:06] him, i believe very strongly that if we had done [00:08:10] if we had gone further rather than trying to [00:08:14] play big brother and being unnecessarily diplomatic, [00:08:18] perhaps South Africans would have uh think [00:08:21] twice before doing whatever [00:08:23] it is they are doing to us because historically speaking [00:08:27] we contributed to the freedom they are enjoying [00:08:30] today you some of us [00:08:32] contributed our here and there you [00:08:35] know and so and we did that without even [00:08:39] getting anything in return from them and the only thing we get [00:08:43] today is this unprovoked attack on our [00:08:46] people, so I believe very strongly that if the government had comes [00:08:50] stronger than it is, coming with regards to this matter, [00:08:54] perhaps the government would have uh woken up to [00:08:57] protect uh Nigerians that are in South Africa, even [00:09:01] though Nigeria is actually dragged South Africa to the AU, but do you think GKB, do [00:09:05] you think Nigeria should we think it's a diplomatic posture [00:09:09] towards South Africa if the citizens are repeated? really [00:09:12] unsafe: well, if it gets to point that you [00:09:16] can no longer pretend that is [00:09:19] just citizens complaining and [00:09:23] using scrape goating, then we have to move up, but for now, i [00:09:27] think the reaction is appropriate, [00:09:31] buse don't forget that we are looking for investors, and [00:09:35] this the only signal you can give to investors is [00:09:38] stability, if every time the attack cause. [00:09:43] car, you move against the interest in Nigeria, we are sending the [00:09:46] signal that we are not consistent in our [00:09:50] economic drive, that's not to say that we should look the other way, [00:09:54] sanctions could be applied when appropriate, sanctions like what, sanctions [00:09:58] like refusing fesa to South Africas coming to [00:10:01] Nigeria, making sure that the repatriation of [00:10:05] profits are in that in such a way to affect their [00:10:09] economic interest in their country, because whether we like it [00:10:13] or not, Nigeria is still the biggest market the [00:10:16] biggest South African companies operating on the [00:10:20] continent, we have the market, we are the market that they drive [00:10:23] on so... yes ago, telecoms company's [00:10:27] profit that came from Nigeria and profit gap [00:10:31] was about 40%, even bigger than the one that are coming from their own [00:10:34] country of South Africa, so we have the leverage, but it's not [00:10:38] every time you go out of your way to use the [00:10:42] the club to knock, but you first give them enough [00:10:46] leverage to do the worst the can, then you [00:10:49] moving, well not many people might want [00:10:53] to agree with you on that one, but it's fine It's open actually, all right, [00:10:56] gentlemen, let's move straight to our next conversation, as [00:11:00] the 2027 elections draw closer, political [00:11:04] parties are stepping up grassroots mobilization and women [00:11:08] are making important contributions, women supporters the all [00:11:11] progressives congress APC, inqu central have staged [00:11:15] rally a lauring to mobilize support for [00:11:18] presidentubu, governor Abdul Rahman Abdul Razzaq [00:11:22] senatorial ambition and other party. candidates, the [00:11:25] rally featured a procession through major streets and [00:11:29] markets, they set the administration record in gender [00:11:33] inclusion, empowerment and infrastructure development [00:11:36] justify their support. now let's share the story by TVC [00:11:40] News Ibrahim Malege with [00:11:42] you. [00:11:47] chanting solidarity songs and displaying party banners, this [00:11:51] APC women marched through major streets and markets in Loren. [00:11:55] demonstrating their support for the parties candidates ahead the [00:11:58] 2027 general elections. the rally, which began at the [00:12:02] general hospital roundabout passed through sorulere, [00:12:06] agaka, ojoba, gambari, itaadu, kankatu, [00:12:10] omenda and alori. their message is call for the re-election [00:12:14] of president Bolatinobu, the election of governor Abdul Rahman Abdul [00:12:18] Razzaq as the senator representing Quora central and the [00:12:21] victory of other APC candidates across the state. [00:12:29] led by the senior special assistant to the governor on women [00:12:32] mobilization lawal [00:12:34] the women said the rally reflects their confidence in the administration's [00:12:38] performance and their desire for continuity all the [00:12:41] kara central women are gather to do the rally for all the APC [00:12:45] candidates in kwara state so we did not uh [00:12:49] gather people from nowhere we just got the members of APC [00:12:53] who voluntally come out to do this realization to do this way for all our candidates [00:12:57] to emerge to promote them, to confast for them, to let [00:13:00] them know the purpose of women, to let them know the women are behind them, and we [00:13:04] also appreciate governor for the opportunity giving to the women, the [00:13:08] youth to participate in politics and also show our talent and so that we are [00:13:11] innovative, so our to motivate us as well, because we [00:13:15] appreciating for the women that are in the cabinet in we only have [00:13:19] APC and other party because they are minority to us, APC are [00:13:23] the majority party in... state and we are fully with our [00:13:26] ts telling the whole world that APC is only b state [00:13:30] and we guarantee that we will be the winner the victory of this upcoming election [00:13:34] inshallah. they believe voters have witnessed difference [00:13:38] in governance and should sustain what they consider the [00:13:42] administration's achievements. gender inclusion is [00:13:45] major reason the women's sight for backing the governor's [00:13:48] senatorial ambition. they said the administration [00:13:52] has provided opportunities for women and young people to participate [00:13:56] in governance, including appointments as commissioners, [00:14:00] senior special assistants, and special assistants, describing [00:14:04] this representation as evidence the governor's [00:14:07] commitment to inclusive leadership. Deputy Speaker [00:14:11] the Londre West Legislative Council, Sheriff Balogun also [00:14:15] appeals to agried APC members to put their differences [00:14:18] aside and work for the success the party's candidates. [00:14:22] She insists the rally was voluntary. and reflects the [00:14:26] commitment the party supporters, we are, we are in charge, [00:14:30] i've said earlier, everything is in charge, we are just few them, [00:14:34] few of us that came out today, because it's voluntary rally, nobody is [00:14:38] paying us for everything, we the women want to show them that, because there's a lot [00:14:41] of um work that the governor is doing for them to [00:14:45] know what is going on in the state, our governor is performing and his [00:14:49] continuity that will help us in this days, not that maybe we should change [00:14:52] party, APC is in charge inshallah because directa and our people we didn't [00:14:56] anybody, you can see all of us in uniform, we are in [00:14:59] our [00:15:01] sar toban uniform, [00:15:03] so we didn't hire anybody for this [00:15:04] occasion, [00:15:09] the women say they will continue mobilizing support at the grass roads, [00:15:12] hoping to translate the enthusiasm displayed at the rally into [00:15:16] votes [00:15:17] in 2027, ibrahim alege, tvc [00:15:21] news, mean beautiful one, [00:15:25] again now uh let me start with you, the the [00:15:29] women came out in their numbers, talk to me about uh the [00:15:32] political significance the [00:15:35] rally? well [00:15:39] um, for anyone who has been following political [00:15:42] development inquire uh, you agree [00:15:45] with [00:15:47] me that really is what i refer to as a show [00:15:50] of force, [00:15:52] in Nigeria's political history, [00:15:55] women, at least in recent times, women and the [00:15:59] youth appear to form the larger [00:16:03] percentage of those who come out to vote, and [00:16:07] so for: to put themselves together to show [00:16:11] solidarity for [00:16:13] presidentubuction [00:16:16] and the election the incubent governor [00:16:20] in the state as senator, para central and all [00:16:24] APC candidates. is also attempt [00:16:27] to respond to those [00:16:31] who are talking about the rainbow coalition [00:16:35] inquiara, they have just told you that or told Nigerians and [00:16:38] all of us that um they are supporting [00:16:42] all [00:16:43] you know APC candidates inquiera state, but [00:16:46] beyond the mobilization, I will appeal to the [00:16:50] APC leaders in the state [00:16:52] to do more by ensuring that they meant [00:16:55] their fences before the [00:16:58] election. [00:17:00] You see, sometimes when [00:17:02] you see such mobilization, [00:17:06] you will be... making a fool of yourself [00:17:09] to sit down and believe that all them will come out [00:17:13] on the day of election you know to to vote. there are someho may [00:17:17] have attended that rally just so [00:17:20] that you don't give them uh any other [00:17:24] name. there are some women have attended that rally just [00:17:28] to assess the situation. because i [00:17:32] know that there are issues in qupc [00:17:35] and saraaki is giring up [00:17:39] seriously to regain [00:17:42] control the politics of that state, [00:17:45] therefore uh APC leaders in that state [00:17:48] must uh try and reach out men [00:17:52] Frances and ensure that they go into that [00:17:55] contest you know as a [00:17:58] unit, not a divided house, i i like [00:18:02] that, he said that it shows that um the APC is fully grounded [00:18:06] in inquire state, but looking at this, the women came [00:18:10] out in their numbers, we cannot deny that. is this a true reflection [00:18:14] the massive supports the APC enjoys in [00:18:17] quara? this kara central, senatorial [00:18:21] district, this is about the biggest cenatorial district [00:18:25] in karara state due to the [00:18:28] unfortunate [00:18:31] bandity, lot of people have [00:18:34] moved to kwara central for. they call [00:18:38] the group safety mentality, [00:18:42] so it's going to be very important, whatever result will come [00:18:45] out of cour central. number [00:18:48] one, the women generally in Nigeria is about [00:18:51] 48% the [00:18:54] registered voters, [00:18:58] but in terms of turnout, I think they do far better [00:19:02] and the men, than the men, on so many levels, they are more [00:19:05] committed across. all age caps, you see very [00:19:09] old women you just wanted to vote, people in the [00:19:13] 80s, 90s, and some them as young as [00:19:16] 20, they are very dedicated to voting in [00:19:20] elections, why some the men would tend to play football or [00:19:24] watch television, but haven't said [00:19:27] that, what is smaller said resonates with me on [00:19:31] two levels, one, there's a chiism in [00:19:34] qu right now, the puting together as a [00:19:38] party is their total commitment to the election [00:19:42] of Mr. President, Mr. President, after [00:19:46] that, I think everything inqu is ho on [00:19:49] your own, yeah, so I think it's going to be very interesting [00:19:53] to see how the results the first Saturday will [00:19:57] also reflect on the gumanitorial and as [00:20:00] assembly elections, don't forget that [00:20:04] some the major players that were thrown out. by [00:20:08] the government, yes i have now equipped and got new [00:20:12] recruits, when it comes to the governatorial level, yes, as [00:20:16] you know, the candidate the governor is also the candidate the [00:20:19] party is from very, very minor [00:20:23] minority, i think they came from only about two local [00:20:26] governments out of 16, okay, and [00:20:29] you know what that means, the [00:20:30] majority [00:20:34] speaking parts of. [00:20:41] and unless the men [00:20:42] France the governor will get his [00:20:46] senatorial things easily because [00:20:50] it and the election will also come up on the day the presidential [00:20:54] election, but more b [00:20:56] that like ismile said about what we happen on the gobernatorial [00:20:59] weekend, that is where the danger is, [00:21:03] if the party do not get together and solve [00:21:06] their, solve their problems. [00:21:09] mean, you talk about the issues going [00:21:13] on inquire state, what what will he take or who is that [00:21:17] rallying person that can actually bring all the? [00:21:21] forces together to work together, ahead [00:21:25] of 2027, who is that person that can actually bring [00:21:29] them to the table? [00:21:32] unfortunately, there is no such person in cara, [00:21:36] nobody, but Mr. President, yeah, unfortunately [00:21:40] there is no such person inquire that can bring the APC together [00:21:44] to work together as team, but Mr. President, if he [00:21:48] decides to step in is... likely to get them [00:21:52] to work together, especially [00:21:53] for the governorship, what i see that is likely to [00:21:57] play out, you the [00:21:59] speaking qurans that's from the [00:22:03] kara south, they had also [00:22:06] agitated to govern the state [00:22:09] as a matter of fact, they they they were [00:22:13] supporting bb, [00:22:16] the former party chairman who led the... campaign [00:22:20] against Senator Bukola [00:22:24] Saraki, unfortunately, shortly after the government was formed, the [00:22:28] governor fell out with most prominent members the [00:22:32] movement, and so some them [00:22:35] as silently supporting the PDP [00:22:38] candidate, which is been promoted by former senate [00:22:42] president, Dr. Youkala [00:22:46] Saraki, some have left the party, [00:22:50] some are still in the party trying to see [00:22:53] whether [00:22:54] you know they will support the APC governorship candidate or not, but you [00:22:58] see, if the entire kara south decides to [00:23:01] support karara north hoping that when [00:23:05] it is their [00:23:07] turn, kwara not will support them, it means that what APC needs [00:23:11] to do is to work very hard to divide the votes [00:23:15] inquar centra, but if APC does not [00:23:19] get b vo from kara north and kara [00:23:22] south, then the outing will be [00:23:26] very, very disastrous for them. because he talked [00:23:30] about the president, the president cannot [00:23:34] mediate everything, put up fs everywhere, but but can the [00:23:37] party resolve the dispute without creating another [00:23:41] crisis, a bigger crisis ahead of 2027. [00:23:44] unfortunately, the man is supposed to be neutral [00:23:47] is the also problem. [00:23:49] part problem or the problem, the part the [00:23:53] challenge that the parties f and that's Mr. the [00:23:56] governor Razak Ramoni, sorry, Abdul Razzaq [00:23:59] Abdulrahman, and uh, because he [00:24:03] has made up his mind to install his [00:24:07] successor, despite efforts by kara [00:24:10] south to present the candidates, buse obviously the last two [00:24:14] governors or there about have come from Kwara [00:24:17] Central, you understand? [00:24:20] Yes, people thought this time, [00:24:24] and on paper, they are virtually the majority on [00:24:27] paper, the reality, like I said earlier, due to [00:24:31] the migratory factors in kwara, most people are now in kwara [00:24:35] central basically, so unless [00:24:39] the governor will go out of his way [00:24:42] essentially to reach out and make [00:24:45] concessions along the line, what is [00:24:49] my? is [00:24:50] it not too late? nothing is too late in politics. hm, you can still [00:24:53] discuss on the morning the election, but my own take on this [00:24:57] is very clear, from the feelers i get from the [00:25:01] learning, everybody will work for the [00:25:03] president, so that means the presidential [00:25:07] weekend will probably be different picture [00:25:11] okay, from the governatorial weekend, the will come [00:25:14] after, but again as you've seen in [00:25:17] 2019, if the... worlds [00:25:21] are in such a shape that the [00:25:24] opposition thinks they can get an advantage over the [00:25:28] governatorial weekend, they will simply do what the opposition did [00:25:31] with okay in 2019 uh ask [00:25:35] everybody else to withdraw and then magrate [00:25:39] against the common candidates all right beautiful [00:25:42] one all right gentlemen we need to go on this quick break right now okay when we [00:25:46] return the conversation continues don't go away this [00:26:03] Ado state witness progress action.
