[00:00:10] At of tv and news, wherever [00:00:12] the big news stories happening, we're get up to break [00:00:15] it. News, first with [00:00:22] of of breaking. [00:00:23] of [00:00:32] Thanks of for joining us on the program, everyone, a party can [00:00:36] win a primary, present its candidate to the public and [00:00:40] even begin preparing for an election, but what happens [00:00:44] of when the candidate's name doesn't appear [00:00:47] on inex finalist, and that's the [00:00:51] of uncomfortable question [00:00:52] of now confronting Nigeria's opposition, People's Democratic [00:00:55] Party, as preparations gather momentum for the [00:00:58] 2027 elections. latest lists have left out the PDP's [00:01:02] governorship tickets in Ogun and Gombe States [00:01:05] unrepresented with Ladia Debotu and Former Minister Isa [00:01:09] Pantami missing from the publish lists in [00:01:13] Karno, the NDC candidate Amino Goza is [00:01:16] also absent while four parties have been left out of Bauch [00:01:20] State's governorship list. The commission's publish list do not spell out [00:01:24] the reason for this [00:01:26] of individual omission. Sinogun Adible to insist it remains [00:01:29] of a duly. registered PDP member saying his digital [00:01:32] registration was completed and verified within the [00:01:36] stipulated period and now alleges that the ruling APC [00:01:39] mounted on due pressure on INEC. He also [00:01:43] cites alleged restrictions on his campaign [00:01:46] of bubts, of attacks at campaign grounds and harassment of [00:01:50] party members. These are serious allegations, but the [00:01:54] remain allegations, not established findings. The Ogun [00:01:57] APC has rejected the PDP cl uh blame game, [00:02:01] the controversy comes against the [00:02:03] of backdrop of a protracted leadership struggle within the PDP, [00:02:07] including the [00:02:08] in rival camps associated uh with [00:02:11] um some big names in politics and as well as the parties [00:02:15] other leadership block, so is the PDP being [00:02:19] of unfairly squeezed out [00:02:21] of the electoral contest or are internal [00:02:24] divisions and compliance failures still putting its own candidates at [00:02:28] risk ? [00:02:53] of [00:03:07] Thank you for staying with us everyone, national publicity secretary [00:03:10] of the PDP Hardina Mohammed joins me live on the show. Mr. [00:03:14] Mohammed, welcome back on beyond [00:03:16] of the headlines. Uh, INEC, as you're aware, as publish its [00:03:20] final list, leaving out some of your candidates, Ladia [00:03:23] Debutu and Isa Pantami, including their [00:03:26] runningmates. Why, why has that happened? What explanation [00:03:30] really are you getting from INEc for omiting the PDP [00:03:34] from this list? Yeah, good evening [00:03:38] uh good evening uh Nigerians, it's good [00:03:42] of to be back on [00:03:43] of your beyond the headlines program. [00:03:45] Well, it [00:03:47] of is shocking, it is disheartening and most [00:03:50] disappointing that uh a political [00:03:54] party after fulfilling all that is [00:03:57] required uh to do. [00:04:00] legally, and then finally, at this point [00:04:04] a candidate or a political parties candidate will [00:04:07] have [00:04:09] a its own candidates omitted from the final list [00:04:13] of of candidates who are built [00:04:16] contest the 2027 [00:04:19] general election, it came to us as [00:04:23] a great shock and uh, but as PDP [00:04:27] that Nigerians know, [00:04:29] we are used to this kind of [00:04:32] uh uh obstacles and we have surmounted those in [00:04:36] the past, this one to we will summon it. as a this [00:04:40] morning, we have officially communicated in [00:04:44] writing to the electoral empire, [00:04:48] and at this point that I speak with you, there seem to [00:04:51] be no concrete reason, [00:04:55] whether legally, whether administratively, whatsoever, [00:04:59] we have... not been given any reason as to why these [00:05:02] names were omitted. [00:05:06] we've been hearing some stakeholders, some [00:05:08] of them are made reference to a Supreme Court um [00:05:12] ruling in September that restored statutory [00:05:16] provisions governing membership registers and [00:05:20] participation and party primaries uh under the [00:05:23] electoral act of 2026 and they've talked about [00:05:26] compliance uh why compliance with this requirements matter [00:05:30] ahead the election, has the PDP verified that [00:05:34] its membership register and nomination processes in this [00:05:37] affected states uh did fully comply with [00:05:41] the law. and who are you holding accountable if [00:05:45] they do not assuming, assuming that this [00:05:49] is even the reason which we are not considering, why is it so [00:05:53] difficult for INEc to come public by this hour the day to [00:05:57] say this is the reason? did you go through the final list of this [00:06:00] candidates across all elective positions? have you [00:06:04] not seen names of other candidates in other [00:06:08] political parties and even in the PDP that have moved [00:06:12] from one political party to another, which [00:06:15] if we want to go by what you are saying that [00:06:18] it is the supreme court, the judgment that is likely to be the [00:06:22] reason, why is it that those other candidates who are [00:06:26] likely to be affected by this [00:06:29] visible in this inec final list of [00:06:32] candidates, so [00:06:34] it is not about the supreme court decision, [00:06:37] it is never, because [00:06:40] i can authoritatively tell you that, "the PDP have [00:06:43] complied fully, these two notable candidates of our party, [00:06:47] professor Isa [00:06:49] Ali Ibrahim from time and indeed his [00:06:52] excellency, [00:06:56] all have their names in our register that was duly [00:07:00] submitted to INEC. INEC need to know and Nigerians need to [00:07:04] know that INEC, after having a stakeholders meeting [00:07:08] with political parties extended the deadline for the [00:07:11] submission of. this party membership register, [00:07:15] perhaps they must have made a mistake of looking [00:07:18] into the first register that was submitted, because [00:07:22] PDP submitted another register after the [00:07:25] extension made by INEC, the records are there, Nigerians [00:07:29] know when I extended that deadline for the submission [00:07:33] of parties membership register, so it [00:07:37] is not about the Supreme Court [00:07:39] decision, really [00:07:43] no, and nobody can tell us that it is about supreme court decision, [00:07:47] but Mr. Muhammed, have you have you specifically requested [00:07:51] an explanation from Minec? We did, [00:07:54] we did verbally and we had the course to submit in writing [00:07:58] today, and no one seem to understand what [00:08:01] exactly, and we need to know that INEc does not have the [00:08:05] unilateral power to remove the name of [00:08:08] candidate from from [00:08:10] from the... [00:08:13] the the list after duly passing the nomination processes and does not [00:08:17] have such powers to do so and what what what [00:08:20] will surprise this party and indeed nigerians and [00:08:24] particularly the candidates is that when i [00:08:28] make published the particulars of [00:08:31] candidates sometimes back these names were [00:08:35] there so what happened in between at [00:08:39] what point and you didn't see this [00:08:43] coming, not at all, not at all, that is [00:08:47] why it is so shocking to us, let us let us take ogun state, for [00:08:50] instance, um, the question is, how does the party explain the [00:08:54] controversy over Ade Butu's membership register, [00:08:58] because um, he did say he completed his digital [00:09:01] registration on time, that he even received the printed membership [00:09:05] card and had his membership verified before his documentation was [00:09:09] submitted to INEC, the question would be, whether [00:09:13] you have documentary evidence showing that his name was submitted [00:09:17] within the statutory deadline? absolutely, [00:09:20] absolutely. we have responsible political party. we [00:09:24] cannot come out and mislead Nigerians that his name is not on the [00:09:28] register when we cannot, we can't say his name is on the register when it [00:09:32] is not. so we are telling you [00:09:34] authoritatively that his name was on the [00:09:37] register and is presently in the register [00:09:41] and that is why i'm make reference to the fact that [00:09:44] perhaps the human error, because the [00:09:48] party PDP complied in submitting [00:09:51] the parties membership register when i gave [00:09:55] the first timeline, we did, and then there was [00:09:59] extension of which we sent a [00:10:01] supplementary membership register, so [00:10:05] the insinuations were that are the able to registered [00:10:09] under the turaiki then faction of... the [00:10:12] PDP, if at all he has done that, I want to tell you that [00:10:16] before we submit name of candidate or we even [00:10:20] clear a candidate, we scruttonize this documents, we make sure [00:10:24] that to register appropriately with the [00:10:27] right register [00:10:31] the party that will be recognized by enec and he has fully [00:10:35] complied with that and we have all the evidences there is [00:10:39] why it is most shocking to us, there's [00:10:41] another version [00:10:41] to the story and i want to [00:10:43] get your reaction on it, they have said that these two individuals possibly aren't [00:10:46] in the good books the national leader of your party, that's why they've been [00:10:50] omited, how do you react to? no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, [00:10:54] no, no, "it has nothing to do with being in the good books the [00:10:58] minister, the party is a party that is open for [00:11:02] every nigerian who is interested in joining the party. the [00:11:06] minister does not influence who gets this, get what's within the party, [00:11:10] no, he allows the national working committee to decide [00:11:14] what happens in line with the provisions the party's constitution, and [00:11:17] Mr. adebut has complied, purchased his nomination [00:11:21] form, went through the screening processes. he was [00:11:25] cleared, the primaries was were conducted, he had his documents [00:11:29] and everything submitted to anec within time, and that was why I [00:11:32] said INEc published his particulars when [00:11:36] it was the time for publication of [00:11:40] candidates particulars and I did that, so it has nothing to [00:11:44] do with being in the camp of Mr. A and Mr. B and I want to [00:11:48] tell you that there is a good [00:11:51] relationship between the minister and every member the... [00:11:55] GDP, there's no animosity [00:11:57] whatsoever, so all like [00:12:01] your position that the party doesn't know [00:12:04] why INEc has omitted this name, Mr. Adible to has [00:12:08] alleged that the APC mounted on due pressure [00:12:12] on INEC, uh, he's also added [00:12:14] restriction to his campaign bbard, he talked [00:12:18] about his supporters facing attacks at campaign grounds and [00:12:22] harassment and what have you, is that your part? his position as well [00:12:26] that this is the handy work the [00:12:28] APC, well at [00:12:31] at the moment, like I said earlier a TV [00:12:34] appearance I I made this morning that Mr. [00:12:38] Adebutu is the personal residing in his own [00:12:42] state and he knows very much [00:12:45] better than any other person, the intrics [00:12:48] playing behind the undertones, but we as leaders [00:12:52] the party what we are. expected what is expected of [00:12:56] us to do is to engage inec to get first hand [00:13:00] information and not to deal with speculation. in as much as we [00:13:04] want to agree with adebut that [00:13:07] there are some undertons and certain [00:13:10] influence, but we will prefer that let [00:13:14] come clean and tell us exactly, and until that is [00:13:18] done then we will be forced to believe [00:13:22] and agree with adebot, but [00:13:25] as as it is now, we want to keep all allegations [00:13:28] aside, we want to take inec on this matter, let [00:13:32] them come clean, let them account, let let them tell us what [00:13:35] exactly are the issues, matter of this [00:13:39] magnitude shouldn't make shouldn't be be, [00:13:43] shouldn't take this long for ineck to come and see this [00:13:47] is this and this and this and that, in this serious matter, is national [00:13:51] issue, in short, the PDP disagrees with adibut. [00:13:55] allegation that this is APC mountain pressure on [00:13:59] inec right? no, no, no, no, no, not not absolutely [00:14:03] disagreeing with him, not absolutely disagreeing with him, [00:14:06] when you look at the momentum, the [00:14:10] clouds, the support to is getting, and [00:14:13] equally the cloud and momentum fantany is getting [00:14:17] from gombi, you you, [00:14:21] you will be forced to believe anything that... [00:14:25] comes to your ears, but officially what [00:14:29] we want to get from INEC is what is [00:14:32] truly responsible for this omission, but not certainly [00:14:36] about membership, all right or [00:14:40] lack of compliance with the extent loss, certainly not [00:14:44] that, let us allow inec, let us allow inek to [00:14:48] come out and tell us what exactly are the issues, working [00:14:52] committee, okay, let us go a short break. [00:14:55] And then when we return we're going to continue this conversation. Stay with [00:14:59] us [00:14:59] everyone. [00:16:25] jungudo Aruna Muhammad is the national publicity [00:16:28] secretary the PDP who joins us today on [00:16:32] beyond the headlines thank you for staying the cause on the program I'm wondering if [00:16:36] you are beyond inquiries, the formal inquiries you've made if you are pursuing [00:16:40] formal representations, cought action or [00:16:43] another remedy, and given that INEC has now [00:16:47] published what it calls its final list, what legal [00:16:51] options remain without violating the [00:16:55] electoral timetable? well, [00:16:58] the the list may appear final, but I can tell you it cannot be [00:17:02] final, because it cannot be final when two of [00:17:05] our most important candidates names is [00:17:08] omitted from that list and we have [00:17:11] given inex a timeline within which we expect [00:17:15] them to come clean to either correct their errors own up [00:17:19] to their mistakes, correct the errors and include [00:17:23] the names these candidates, we are not asking for apologies, [00:17:27] we are not asking for any long English, what we are demanding [00:17:30] is include these names as far [00:17:34] as they have complied, [00:17:37] fully, but if iine feel they have a [00:17:40] contrary position which is [00:17:44] superior, then it shouldn't take them more [00:17:47] than 24 hours, 48 hours to give us [00:17:51] their reasons, and if this reasons are not convincing, we will [00:17:55] be left with no option than to explore all avenues [00:17:59] on how to seek redress about this [00:18:02] abnormalities, about [00:18:04] this omissions. [00:18:08] "uh, we cannot afford to lose Gombi, we cannot afford to lose Ogun. They [00:18:12] are very, very precious to us and we cannot afford to lose any [00:18:16] candidate of our party who has fully complied with [00:18:20] extent laws, who have fully complied with all [00:18:24] regulations and guidelines. If you are to answer honestly, [00:18:27] how much of this crisis would you say is a consequence the [00:18:31] PDP's prolonged leadership struggle uh, particularly the disp [00:18:35] between the different camps." for now, not at [00:18:39] all, the disputes that has lingered within the party does [00:18:43] not have any consequences or any bearing on what we [00:18:47] are facing at the moment, because we have field [00:18:50] candidates across all elective positions from [00:18:54] across uh 28, 36 states and fct [00:18:58] in this country, so [00:19:01] if if all the candidates we have [00:19:04] fielded are listed on the IN [00:19:08] list of candidates for 2027 elections and we have just a [00:19:12] handful, you cannot attribute this to the [00:19:16] internal disputes within within the [00:19:20] party, because till today you will realize [00:19:23] that the agrieved [00:19:26] turaki people are still having [00:19:30] a couple of people who are identifying themselves as [00:19:34] candidates to the PDP, whereas they are not, [00:19:37] thank to thanks to the [00:19:39] the the list published by by inec [00:19:42] we want to believe by now they will uh begin to think [00:19:45] of what to do and not to continue to part themselves [00:19:49] as candidates the party so the internal squabbles do [00:19:53] not have any bearing on this [00:19:56] omission your your party has [00:20:00] spent has spent considerable time contesting leadership [00:20:04] legitimacy and control and there are some who have um argue [00:20:07] that perhaps that struck will as weakened coordination [00:20:11] between national leadership and state chapters, leaving some of your [00:20:15] candidates exposed to avoidable legal and administrative [00:20:18] problems. you don't agree to that? do not agree to [00:20:22] this absolutely. one thing you need to take note of is [00:20:26] that if there were internal administrative lapses or [00:20:30] lack of cohesion [00:20:33] unity from within the PDP, the names [00:20:36] of and fantaini wouldn't have been [00:20:40] published by the particulars would not have been published [00:20:44] by Ac issue and [00:20:48] when the Federal High Court go be ordered or nollified [00:20:52] the first primaries and ordered for a fresh primaries, [00:20:55] monitored the primaries and we submitted the names of fantami [00:20:59] after [00:21:07] Mr. Haruna Mohammed is the national publicity [00:21:10] secretary the PDP who has [00:21:14] just established on the show today that the party has no [00:21:18] idea why both pantamis and adibotus [00:21:21] name are absent from inex final list of [00:21:25] governorship candidates. he also mentioned that the party has now [00:21:28] officially written inec and is given him a time frame [00:21:32] to reply. he also believes that PDP will [00:21:36] virtually your have candidates in the [00:21:39] forthcoming election. in og look [00:21:43] at the publish list contains 13 [00:21:46] governorship candidates but no PDP. [00:21:50] ticket and in gombe the PDP is also absent from [00:21:53] the from the published list. Mr. Mohammed, we lost you for a [00:21:57] minute, but I'm wondering what you what the contingency [00:22:00] plans are. Let us assume without [00:22:03] conceeding that this decision stand, right, that this omission [00:22:07] stand uh, what message do you have for supporters [00:22:11] who actually have fears uh that their votes may be [00:22:15] taken out the contest before election [00:22:17] day. [00:22:34] but already we're hearing from, local quarters [00:22:38] in Ogun for instance, where the PDP candidate is [00:22:42] assuring is supporters that this [00:22:45] is just detor and not an end to his [00:22:50] um election campaigns and he believes strongly [00:22:53] that has made a mistake and that is going to get his name [00:22:56] back on that list. prior to this time [00:23:00] we've had conversations about unresolved leadership disputes [00:23:04] within the PDP, questions about candidate eligibility [00:23:08] and [00:23:08] you had the PDP national public state secretary saying that even [00:23:12] up until today there are still candidates so claim to be on the ballot [00:23:16] from from the other uh camp and now [00:23:20] omissions from inects, how will this [00:23:24] impact on the PDP organizing [00:23:27] itself as um uh a formidable [00:23:31] opposition in this election, and why should voters believe um the [00:23:35] party can organize itself internally, select candidates [00:23:38] lawfully, mount an effective challenge to the APC, [00:23:42] those are the concerns that have reason following this annex [00:23:46] finalist, but um quick... Mr. [00:23:50] Mohammed, we have to go now, what, what would you [00:23:54] say to supporters of your party in Ugua and Gombe who are [00:23:57] truly concerned and who fear that, this [00:24:01] might be the reality going into this election? [00:24:05] Yes, I want to assure our party supporters and the candidates [00:24:09] and Nigerians that the party is top of this matter and [00:24:13] we will leave nose turn on turn until we make sure that these candidates [00:24:17] and oters who were inadvadently. whether it [00:24:21] is also deliberate [00:24:23] calculation [00:24:30] is the national public secretary the PDP, [00:24:33] thankfully we're able to have robust conversation with him [00:24:37] earlier on before we lost touch with him via [00:24:40] zoom, it's a development story and we'll continue to [00:24:44] follow these very closely to see how it impact on [00:24:48] the parties out in in in this concerned [00:24:51] state as far [00:24:52] as 2027 is concerned.
