Having children, maybe it's worth considering [00:02:01] insurance for specific events. What does the market [00:02:05] offer and is it worth it at all? Among other things, about this today in Kowalski's wallet [00:02:09] magazine, Marcin Kowalski, I invite you, [00:02:11] let's start. [00:02:17] Unsuccessful holidays, how to effectively file [00:02:19] a complaint. [00:02:23] Insurance for students, scope and costs [00:02:26] of the policy. [00:02:30] Increases access to gas and oil deposits, close cooperation with Norway [00:02:33] in the most modern [00:02:35] extraction project. [00:02:39] We are already after the holidays, probably most of you have your [00:02:42] holiday trips behind you. We assume that most of [00:02:46] them were simply successful. But what if [00:02:49] you feel that at least part of the service was not well [00:02:53] performed, you have complaints, you want to [00:02:56] complain about it? How to do it, where to go, and can [00:02:59] you get your [00:03:00] money back? [00:03:05] For many of us, holidays are already history, but there are lucky ones [00:03:08] who are just looking for attractive offers. How [00:03:12] to choose the best one? First of all, calmness is [00:03:15] recommended. Whenever we rush with [00:03:18] holiday planning and do it at the last minute, [00:03:22] we can make a series of [00:03:25] truly unforgivable mistakes that can later [00:03:29] take their revenge. If you are looking for cheap offers, you must also find your inner [00:03:32] detective and not believe everything you read. You have [00:03:36] 5 minutes, buy, for 50% cheaper. [00:03:39] It turns out that such a portal is registered somewhere in the world [00:03:43] and practically pursuing such [00:03:45] claims is almost unreal. Experts also advise to approach [00:03:49] photos showing paradise beaches and luxurious hotel [00:03:52] interiors with great caution. Very often we get [00:03:56] carried away by beautiful photos that are in the offer. [00:04:00] For example, we fly at a different time, during the [00:04:03] monsoon season, when it rains, there are strong [00:04:06] winds, for example, closed beaches. Very often tourists do not [00:04:10] take this into account and are disappointed, believing that their holiday [00:04:13] has been wasted. Data from the Office of Competition [00:04:16] and Consumer Protection indicate that, compared to last year, we are filing [00:04:20] more and more complaints related to our holidays. In the first [00:04:23] half of last year, over 1500 complaints [00:04:27] were registered, and over 2000 in the seven months of this year. Most often we complain about poor [00:04:30] hotel standards, poor sanitary conditions, the presence of insects [00:04:34] or low quality of food. Often we also lack [00:04:38] the promised sea view, and the infrastructure such as spa, [00:04:41] aquapark or bars is not available despite promises. [00:04:44] The distance from the beach is often greater [00:04:48] than declared in the offer. For our [00:04:52] holiday to be a dream holiday, it is worth checking when choosing an offer [00:04:56] how old our hotel is and when it was renovated. This can be [00:05:00] the first clue as to the quality of the pool, spa or room [00:05:04] and how effective the air conditioning will be. [00:05:06] Let's read the terms of the contract very carefully. [00:05:10] If we care about at least a view, [00:05:13] a view of the ocean, that this phrase, this sentence, is clearly [00:05:17] articulated in the offer, from our, from our practice of the Office [00:05:21] of Competition and Consumer Protection it results that there is a fundamental [00:05:24] difference between a room that faces the [00:05:27] ocean and a room that has an ocean view. What can [00:05:31] a tourist do when, immediately upon arrival at the destination, they see that reality does [00:05:35] not match the description in the brochure? Firstly, they must report [00:05:38] the non-conformity of the contract on the spot, because it may turn out that the travel agency [00:05:42] will resolve this inconvenience or this, or this improper [00:05:46] provision of, for example, the room on the spot and will change [00:05:50] the client's room, for example, because the client bought a room with a sea view [00:05:53] and received one with a view of the proverbial rubbish dump. [00:05:57] We can report all inconveniences that conflict with [00:06:00] the provisions in the contract. However, not everything we don't like can be [00:06:04] complained about. These may be, for example, temporary difficulties, [00:06:08] a two-hour power outage or a temporarily [00:06:12] non-functioning lift. Very often, tourists also [00:06:16] complain about insects, for example, in some tropical countries, [00:06:20] which are, however, the norm in a given region. As [00:06:23] usual, the devil is in the details. It turns out that tourists [00:06:27] can effectively complain about, for example, services whose quality is [00:06:31] not, after all, written into the contract. I know an example of an accepted [00:06:34] complaint in the case of a tour guide who, although [00:06:38] was substantively prepared to perform their function, but during [00:06:42] the entire trip allowed themselves to make inappropriate [00:06:45] comments towards the participants of the entire [00:06:48] trip. The participants [00:06:51] came together and jointly filed a complaint. How [00:06:54] to properly estimate our loss? Experts advise [00:06:58] to use the so-called Frankfurt Table. This is not [00:07:01] an official document, but a certain compilation that [00:07:05] was created based on rulings of German [00:07:07] courts. It also greatly helps Polish consumers in [00:07:11] pursuing claims. This Frankfurt Table clearly [00:07:15] indicates by what percentage discount, i.e. [00:07:18] refund of the trip costs, we can claim for individual [00:07:21] elements. Details of the valuations given in the Frankfurt Table [00:07:25] can be found on the website of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. For [00:07:28] example, up to 5% refund [00:07:31] for dirty dishes or dirty cutlery, or up to [00:07:34] 20% for no pool in the hotel. [00:07:38] Why is this so important? Because [00:07:41] the most common reason... [00:08:12] if we have any written [00:08:16] commitments that were signed on the spot, [00:08:19] we should also keep all of this for potential [00:08:23] claims. Of course, it's not about constantly checking [00:08:26] or taking pictures of everything we don't like during our vacation. [00:08:30] It's important that we know our rights, which are given [00:08:33] to us by the contract with the vacation organizer. Travel agencies, which [00:08:37] take over the obligation in accordance with the law from the beginning of the [00:08:40] event until its end, are responsible in accordance with [00:08:44] that law for caring for the client. If our [00:08:48] travel agency operates in the Polish market, after returning from vacation, complaints can [00:08:51] be directed to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. [00:08:55] If the trip organizer is based in the European Union, Norway, Great [00:08:59] Britain or Iceland, then the European Consumer [00:09:02] Centre [00:09:03] can help. [00:09:07] Energy security and natural gas supplies to Poland, [00:09:11] preferably from our own deposits. This is happening, for [00:09:14] example, in the North Sea. We will now take you to [00:09:17] Norway, where at one of the shipyards one of the most modern [00:09:20] extraction projects in the world is being built, and [00:09:24] Poland has a share in this [00:09:26] project. [00:09:30] At the Norwegian Aker shipyard, the third largest component of [00:09:34] the Igdrasil extraction project is being built, which will start [00:09:37] its operations in mid- 2027. [00:09:40] In the construction of one of... [00:10:12] at night, it has dramatically increased in recent years, and this is very good [00:10:16] news, because as we can see from import data, [00:10:19] especially from the period after 2022, [00:10:23] raw materials from Norway have replaced Russian raw materials on the European market. [00:10:27] When Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, when it started [00:10:31] to turn off the gas and oil taps, it was primarily Norwegians, [00:10:35] or rather, in fact, primarily Norwegians, who started to export [00:10:38] more. So the presence here on the Norwegian continental [00:10:41] shelf in developing projects is absolutely crucial, [00:10:44] and we have been experiencing this essentially since the beginning of these [00:10:48] European energy problems, which we have been noting for four [00:10:51] years, that it was worth investing here. After all, the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, which [00:10:55] smoothly came online when the Russians halted gas supplies [00:10:58] to Poland, is supplied with gas precisely from this [00:11:02] region, precisely from Norway. This is very important [00:11:06] that we remember what the geographical [00:11:09] orientation of raw material supplies to Poland looks like now. [00:11:13] And as for the Baltic Pipe, what is its [00:11:17] transmission capacity? That is, essentially everything [00:11:20] that Orlen [00:11:23] together with its partners, because it has different stakes in different [00:11:26] projects, but it is able to extract, also in [00:11:29] the future, through this pipe, colloquially speaking, we are able to [00:11:32] deliver it to Poland, to Europe? The annual capacity of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline [00:11:36] is 10 billion cubic meters, of which Orlen has reserved [00:11:40] about 8 billion cubic meters, half of which [00:11:43] it satisfies with its own deposits, so even [00:11:46] if gas extraction were to increase, there is still some room [00:11:50] that can be used to send this Norwegian gas [00:11:53] extracted by Orlen. Of course, this depends on market [00:11:57] conditions, on how the local market and trade in this [00:12:00] raw material will shape up. However, it can be said that [00:12:03] thanks to investments in Norway, thanks to [00:12:07] our presence here, we are satisfying a significant part of our [00:12:11] gas needs. One could say through our own extraction [00:12:14] and transmission chain, because we have [00:12:17] extraction capabilities on the Norwegian shelf and infrastructure for [00:12:21] gas transmission. We receive it and in the future, right... [00:12:25] we will similarly re-export it to other [00:12:28] Central European countries, because a gas hub is being built [00:12:31] in Poland. And as for this direction, Norway and [00:12:35] the North Sea or the Barents Sea, [00:12:38] is it true that one can essentially focus 100% here [00:12:41] and secure 100% of energy needs, in terms of [00:12:45] raw materials, mainly natural gas. Of course, we must be [00:12:48] adjusted to transmission capabilities, because [00:12:52] Norway can export LNG, it can export [00:12:55] pipeline gas to Europe, but these capabilities are somewhat [00:12:59] limited, and it is also worth drawing conclusions from [00:13:02] Poland's previous energy policy, meaning geographical [00:13:05] diversification is also important. One should not focus [00:13:09] excessively on one direction, because history [00:13:12] shows that if there were any disruptions for various reasons [00:13:16] at one supplier, then one could [00:13:19] be left with a problem. Just two more words about [00:13:23] this project, because it is also very interesting in many respects, [00:13:26] right? [00:13:28] It is said that it is a symbol of the 21st [00:13:32] century in terms of extraction and power supply and [00:13:35] control, it is a kind of breakthrough when [00:13:39] it comes to exactly this type of technology. Here in Stord it is said [00:13:42] that what is being built behind us is so-called state of the art, it is [00:13:46] the culmination of technological development when it comes to [00:13:49] the construction of such facilities as drilling platforms. The one behind [00:13:52] us, which is the main form for the [00:13:56] Igdrasil field, will be very limited in terms [00:13:59] of crew, meaning typically several hundred people [00:14:02] work on such platforms, sometimes even half a thousand, so these are like [00:14:06] floating cities, while here only 40 will work because [00:14:10] the crew will be limited by moving, for example, [00:14:14] the field management center to land, which will connect [00:14:18] with the platforms via a fiber optic cable, and thanks [00:14:21] to this, from the land, it will be possible to control [00:14:25] extraction. This is a novelty, it is a kind of innovation [00:14:29] in the extraction process, which completely changes, [00:14:33] let's say, the necessity of building infrastructure on [00:14:35] the platform, its economy, if we talk about, for example, [00:14:39] food and so on, and so forth, it is also [00:14:42] an architecturally or engineer-wise very [00:14:45] extensive project, and another interesting fact, the entire thing will be [00:14:49] powered mostly by green energy, generally speaking, [00:14:53] when it comes to power supply. [00:14:57] via an electrical cable from Norway, which at this [00:15:01] moment is 95% powered by renewable [00:15:04] sources, mainly hydropower, so this also [00:15:07] affects the so-called energy [00:15:11] management of these projects. From the point of view of Kowalski's [00:15:14] contract, one might ask whether Orlen's [00:15:17] operations in Norway [00:15:21] make us energy independent or in any other [00:15:25] way can we, as consumers, benefit from this? Of course, this [00:15:28] is also a profitable raw material, it is profitable to [00:15:32] extract it here. Norway, thanks to its [00:15:35] extraction industry, thanks to the deposits located [00:15:38] there, is building its economic potential, but also [00:15:41] of course, the entities operating here also benefit from this. [00:15:45] However, it is an important element at [00:15:48] this moment, second only to the United States, when it comes to our [00:15:51] partners in terms of energy [00:15:54] raw material supplies, which builds Poland's energy [00:15:57] security. [00:16:01] Additional insurance for children in school. Some parents might [00:16:04] be interested in such a solution. But what [00:16:08] does the market offer and is it actually [00:16:09] worth it? [00:16:15] September 1st is behind us, and expenses related to the new school [00:16:18] year. Whoever hasn't bought insurance for a student [00:16:21] still has a chance to do so. And although in Poland there [00:16:24] is no such obligation, experts advise not [00:16:27] to save on the safety of our children. On average, about [00:16:31] 2500 accidents involving children occur annually, [00:16:34] and most of these accidents take place [00:16:38] in schools, which is why it's worth considering [00:16:41] having financial security for even minor bodily injuries, [00:16:45] because about 60% of these accidents are sprains [00:16:49] and limb injuries, so that in case these events occur, you have [00:16:53] secure finances. According to statistics, over [00:16:57] 80 accidents involving children occur daily, most often in [00:17:00] gymnasiums, sports fields, and school corridors of elementary schools. Over [00:17:04] 60% of them are fractures and sprains. [00:17:22] It is worth using them, but experts advise to check what exactly [00:17:25] they offer beforehand. Often, this school insurance has lower sums [00:17:28] insured, a smaller scope, because it needs to [00:17:32] be tailored to the budget of each [00:17:34] parent. that the scope is not [00:17:38] sufficient, we can insure the child [00:17:42] individually, and in case of an accident, we will receive payment from both [00:17:46] sources. If a parent has a limited budget at the beginning of the [00:17:49] school year, they can purchase a cheaper version of school [00:17:53] insurance, then two or three months [00:17:56] later, purchase an additional, higher- variant that will more comprehensively [00:17:59] secure their needs and the child's needs. [00:18:03] It is important to maintain the continuity of the policy, because [00:18:06] school insurance is valid throughout the calendar [00:18:09] year, even outside of school. What is important in the contract [00:18:13] is the overall sum insured. When an accident [00:18:16] occurs, we receive a percentage of that [00:18:19] sum. Different companies have [00:18:22] different tables, it's worth checking in the table how much we will receive, for example, for [00:18:26] a broken arm, for a broken leg, whether it will be a few, several [00:18:29] percent, for very serious accidents, it is [00:18:32] of course close to 100%. Let's see [00:18:36] what support can we expect, for example, in case of a seemingly minor [00:18:40] bicycle accident, during which the child [00:18:43] broke their thumb and suffered a concussion. [00:18:46] Assuming that the total sum insured is [00:18:49] 8000 PLN, the insurer will pay us [00:18:53] 3200 PLN. In the case of [00:18:56] a dog bite, with the same sum insured, for a visit [00:18:59] to the emergency room we will receive 1500 [00:19:02] PLN, and for stitching three wounds 2400 [00:19:06] PLN. If children actively participate in sports, [00:19:09] experts advise to consider increasing the total sum [00:19:12] insured, because such activity unfortunately carries the risk [00:19:16] of more frequent injuries. It is worth remembering that each policy [00:19:19] may have so-called exclusions. These are usually [00:19:22] exclusions for extreme sports, such as mountain [00:19:26] climbing, diving or shooting. However, as a [00:19:30] general rule, if a child simply plays sports, goes to a club, plays [00:19:33] football in the yard, most insurance companies within [00:19:37] their school accident insurance offer [00:19:39] also cover these activities. Of course, there is no [00:19:43] single list of such exclusions, most often they concern participation [00:19:47] in extreme sports or the deterioration of a student's health due to [00:19:50] previously diagnosed chronic illnesses. [00:19:53] The exclusion also applies to situations where a child is injured [00:19:56] while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as [00:20:00] when they cause an accident while driving, for example, a scooter without [00:20:04] a license or riding a scooter without a helmet. We have no [00:20:07] chance for compensation, also when the student is injured [00:20:11] during a fight, unless we prove so-called self- [00:20:14] defense. Always the basis for paying compensation [00:20:18] is documentation regarding the child's medical [00:20:22] assistance. As you can see, before we sign a policy, we must [00:20:25] carefully read all its terms, including those [00:20:28] regarding civil liability, or OC. This is [00:20:32] particularly important, for example, for students of technical schools [00:20:35] or vocational school students, where additionally this clause covers [00:20:39] events that could occur if, for example, [00:20:43] during school practical training an accident occurs and property [00:20:46] or the health of [00:20:50] another person is damaged. In connection with the growing problem [00:20:53] of online hate in schools for years, insurance [00:20:56] companies also offer appropriate policies. Such [00:21:00] insurance typically offers IT support to [00:21:04] remove harmful content from the network, and on the other [00:21:07] hand, psychological support for the child and [00:21:10] family to cope with this very difficult situation. Insurance [00:21:14] can also cover the costs of potential legal advice or [00:21:17] securing appropriate documentation. Is there [00:21:20] an optimal policy? Of course [00:21:23] not, because considering the large number of potential threats, it is difficult [00:21:27] to create a universal insurance. Its terms and [00:21:30] price will depend on the child's age, interests, type [00:21:34] of education, and many other factors. The highest variants [00:21:37] of insurance, and here the sums insured are above [00:21:41] 100,000 PLN, [00:21:44] it is about 40 PLN per month, so we must remember [00:21:47] that we are talking about the sum insured. [00:21:56] In case of any disputes with the insurer, problems with the [00:21:59] amount of compensation or its payment, we can ask for [00:22:03] help in negotiations from the Financial Ombudsman's [00:22:05] office. [00:22:10] Now in Kowalski's Wallet magazine, we invite you to a review of what we believe are the most [00:22:14] interesting economic events in [00:22:16] the world. [00:22:20] This is the first such decision in three years. The US Federal [00:22:23] Reserve unanimously raised interest rates by [00:22:27] 25 basis points. This is a response to persistent inflation, [00:22:31] which is higher than expected. [00:22:34] As stated in the monetary policy statement, [00:22:36] economic activity is growing at a solid [00:22:40] pace, although the level of uncertainty remains high, partly due [00:22:43] to geopolitical events. The decision [00:22:46] puts the central bank at odds with Donald Trump's repeated [00:22:50] calls to lower credit costs. According to him, the United States should [00:22:54] have the lowest interest rate in the world to support [00:22:57] economic growth. The timing of the hike is also important. The decision [00:23:01] came just 7 weeks before the midterm elections, which could [00:23:05] further increase political tensions, but Donald [00:23:08] Trump's policy also affects inflation in Great Britain. The inflationary [00:23:12] pressure we are experiencing stems from the situation [00:23:15] in the Middle East. Of course, it also causes problems in markets [00:23:19] around [00:24:20] regulations would oblige social media platforms to verify users' [00:24:23] age when creating accounts using special [00:24:27] technology. I am in favor of introducing a ban, because as [00:24:30] a psychologist, I deal with this problem. Through social media, [00:24:33] children increasingly lose concentration more easily and are more quickly [00:24:36] distracted. Their ability to focus attention is therefore increasingly [00:24:39] diminished. When it comes to contact with other people, it no longer looks like [00:24:43] it did when we were teenagers or children. I do not [00:24:47] think that governments should impose such. [00:25:28] If this money is actually used to improve the [00:25:32] situation in the area, then I have no [00:25:34] objection. [00:25:36] People assume that this money will be used, for example, to keep [00:25:40] beaches clean, which is why paying a small amount would be [00:25:43] reasonable, but everything depends on its [00:25:46] amount. [00:25:50] I'm in favor of it. Traveling to Cornwall is already [00:25:52] expensive. It's a beautiful place, but adding another tax... [00:25:56] No, I'm not a fan of this [00:25:58] idea. [00:26:02] want to spend less money on tourist attractions or in local [00:26:06] restaurants, bars, and [00:26:07] pubs. [00:26:10] The government's plan to introduce a tourist tax will inevitably make [00:26:14] holidays more expensive.
