00:00:23Attention is on the imminent announcement of an agreement between Iran and Oman for
00:00:27reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Under the shadow of Tehran,
00:00:32Tehran says it will control the entry of a large number of departing vessels.
00:00:35That is, it is designed
00:00:39in such a way that both on the entry route
00:00:42and in parts of the exit route,
00:00:46commercial ships will actually pass through Iranian
00:00:49territorial waters. I didn't think this society, this
00:00:53country could continue, but it did
00:00:57continue. Our new dear leader was re-elected. It's
00:01:00very difficult to communicate with him now. The first part of the interview
00:01:04with the Iranian president about the country's situation
00:01:07was broadcast. Physicians say the Islamic Republic has been able to
00:01:11overcome the most difficult conditions after the revolution.
00:01:13The dissolution of the PKK in
00:01:17exchange for the non-prosecution of its members, a bill

00:01:24Workers' Party, went to the Turkish Parliament.

00:01:56Hello to you, and welcome to another news segment from BBC Persian Television.
00:02:00The Iranian Foreign Ministry says Tehran and Muscat have reached
00:02:03an understanding on the geographical coordinates of shipping routes in the Strait
00:02:07of Hormuz, and a joint statement will be released soon.
00:02:10Ismail Baghaei, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, however,
00:02:14stressed that this agreement does not mean the immediate
00:02:18opening of the Strait of Hormuz and called the US actions one
00:02:21of the main obstacles. Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Minister
00:02:25for International Affairs at the ministry, also said that the new agreement with Oman regarding the new
00:02:29shipping route will increase the share of passage through
00:02:33Iran's territorial waters. This is while Donald Trump, the US President, has again
00:02:36threatened military action if an agreement is not
00:02:39reached. Kazem Naji and more
00:02:42details.
00:02:45The crew of the Indian-flagged ship that was attacked
00:02:49by Houthis at the mouth of the Red Sea yesterday and sank
00:02:53had superficial
00:02:56injuries. All 13 Indian crew members and one
00:03:24in southwestern Hodeidah were targeted by a boat full of explosives. Attacks on commercial
00:03:28ships in the Red Sea are an attack on Yemen and the people of Yemen.
00:03:32In the Strait of Hormuz, there are also signs that one or more
00:03:35ships here off the coast of Oman were targeted and
00:03:39set on fire. Satellite images show a large
00:03:43fire that may be related to a ship that was targeted
00:03:46here yesterday. A Liberian-flagged
00:03:50cargo ship. An attack was reported
00:03:53in which one crew member of the ship
00:03:57went missing.
00:04:02The Strait of Hormuz is now at the center of trilateral talks
00:04:05between Iran, Oman, and America.
00:04:09The Iranians contacted me and very politely requested
00:04:13a discussion, and I accepted. I said, let's bring this agreement
00:04:16to fruition, but what's important is action, not words.
00:04:20If they are not willing to agree, it will not be
00:04:23good for them. American sources told
00:04:27Axios that in the ongoing negotiations, it has been considered
00:04:30that ships will enter the Strait of Hormuz from Iran's coastal
00:04:34waters and exit from Oman's coastal waters.
00:04:38During the 30 days that these arrangements are to be
00:04:41temporarily implemented, the mines in the middle
00:04:45part of the strait will be cleared so that ships can then
00:04:48pass through the middle part. The national security
00:04:52of the Islamic Republic of Iran is at risk. The Iranian side
00:04:56says that negotiations with Oman have made good progress, provided
00:05:00that America does not interfere. Now I can say that the latest
00:05:03situation is that almost all
00:05:06the issues that were raised
00:05:10have finally been addressed. The routes
00:05:14for entry and exit, or maritime
00:05:16traffic, and those side agreements
00:05:20with Oman, because it's not just a map,
00:05:23these almost fundamental agreements
00:05:26with Oman have been
00:05:28concluded. The Iranian Foreign Minister, who went
00:05:32to Karbala yesterday for the Arbaeen ceremony, is now scheduled to go
00:05:36to Pakistan on Friday to continue
00:05:40his mediation by exchanging messages
00:05:43between Iran and the US. Although the Foreign Ministry
00:05:46spokesperson now says there is no plan for this trip.
00:05:49نیست.
00:05:51The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is now being considered in exchange for
00:05:55lifting the naval blockade of Iran, and it is likely
00:05:58that the Islamabad agreement will be
00:06:01returned, probably with new conditions.
00:06:05Kasra Naji, BBC.
00:06:09Reza Goharshad, journalist and international relations analyst, is with us.
00:06:15This agreement, which we now know will be temporary, in your opinion, will it be
00:06:18a victory and a step forward for
00:06:21Iran, or is it just the beginning of a new
00:06:25round of shoulder-to-shoulder
00:06:32on the process that the US and Iran have looked at
00:06:36this war of words and the negotiations,
00:06:39it seems that both
00:06:43countries want to gain concessions and each wants to gain
00:06:46more concessions from the other. The US is not interested
00:06:50in staying in the war because economically
00:06:53and in terms of oil prices, the world
00:06:57is counting on this issue and
00:07:00sees that the big economic problem that has been created
00:07:04is that oil does not reach European
00:07:07countries. On the other hand, Iran also
00:07:10sees this. Even though Iran says
00:07:13it points out that it has been victorious in this war so far and
00:07:17has been able to achieve its goals,
00:07:21there is a reality: Iran has not been able
00:07:24to get the necessary money that they promised
00:07:27it could get back from its frozen funds.
00:07:31It has not been able to get these back. Therefore,
00:07:35it seems that this 60-day plan is
00:07:38another 60-day temporary plan for global issues
00:07:42and opening this strait.
00:07:46And who will be
00:07:49the decisive factor? Naturally, they say
00:07:52that whoever strikes first
00:07:55is the one who started the war
00:07:59and broke this agreement. Therefore, it doesn't seem
00:08:02that you are very optimistic that this agreement
00:08:05will lead to a kind
00:08:08of peace
00:08:12or a lasting ceasefire.
00:08:14I'm not optimistic.
00:08:18Today, this optimism cannot be, we hope
00:08:22it will end. Let's announce with optimism that
00:08:25I hope this war will end and lead
00:08:28to a fruitful negotiation.
00:08:31In the meantime, both Pakistan and other countries are making
00:08:35their efforts, and each one,
00:08:38based on their interests,
00:08:40is doing this. That is, this difference
00:08:44in interests creates
00:08:47this pessimism that, well, how far
00:08:51will Pakistan go? Pakistan currently
00:08:54has an agreement with Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Arabia
00:08:58wants to coordinate that issue with
00:09:01Pakistan and for Pakistan to help secure these
00:09:04waterways. On the other hand, you see that
00:09:08the US indicates that
00:09:11the main condition
00:09:14for Saudi Arabia to participate
00:09:18in nuclear agreements
00:09:20and these matters is that they accept
00:09:24the Abraham Accords. Accepting
00:09:28the Abraham Accords means telling the Arabs
00:09:31in the Persian Gulf that we have given
00:09:35up on the two-state solution
00:09:38for Palestine and Israel together. And this is not only
00:09:42not of interest to Israel, not to Netanyahu,
00:09:46but a number of Arab countries are also not willing to accept
00:09:50this morally. Saudi Arabia itself
00:09:53sees this as a red line. That's why
00:09:56it's possible that with a
00:09:59strike from Israel or from
00:10:03Iran to Israel or any of the countries
00:10:06in the region, this agreement will
00:10:09somehow be questioned and terminated.
00:10:13Thank you, Reza Goharshad, journalist and international relations analyst.
00:10:16Mostafa Daneshgar, political analyst, also joins us. Mr.
00:10:20Daneshgar, inside, at any rate, whenever there's talk of some kind
00:10:22به هر حال هر زمانی که صحبت از نوعی.
00:10:49of what Iran has now achieved with the Omani side, especially since we see the Foreign Ministry constantly trying to convince them that Iran will still
00:10:53have control.
00:11:03tonight, in the interview program
00:11:06with President Peskiyan, the weight of these groups
00:11:10is still high.
00:11:14From the first day that
00:11:17Mojtaba Khamenei stated that he was originally against it,
00:11:20but he gave permission to the president.
00:11:23This means that these groups came
00:11:26to the field, obstructed, and sabotaged.
00:11:29As we hear in the news,
00:11:33regional officials have pointed out
00:11:37that during these negotiations that are currently
00:11:40underway between the Islamic Republic and the Sultanate
00:11:43of Oman, the Revolutionary Guard is
00:11:47not present, and we know that the military bloc plays a decisive
00:11:51role. The Supreme Leader's office itself stated
00:11:55that it was against it, and then raised the issue
00:11:58of revenge and retaliation against the US president.
00:12:02It carries a lot of weight. Today it was said
00:12:05that the plan is still the same plan,
00:12:08in which the Revolutionary Guard is not present. The plan between the Islamic
00:12:11Republic and Oman is still awaiting
00:12:15Mojtaba Khamenei's approval. Again tonight, Peskiyan
00:12:18stated that there are difficulties in communicating
00:12:22with Mojtaba Khamenei. These groups, in my opinion, still, due
00:12:25to a vacuum of leadership that
00:12:29could be the final arbiter, the lack of
00:12:32will in the institution of the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist,
00:12:35which has an absent leader who leads a shadowy life
00:12:39and has stated that he is against it and
00:12:42has another opinion, has raised a fundamental
00:12:46issue called revenge. In my opinion, these groups still have a lot of weight
00:12:50and, alongside IRIB, the chance of
00:12:53reaching, meaning, returning to the memorandum
00:12:57of understanding for comprehensive
00:13:01negotiations still faces difficulties
00:13:04and reduces its chances. And among the personalities
00:13:08who are pursuing some kind
00:13:11of peaceful solution to end these
00:13:15circumstances, including the Iranian Foreign
00:13:18Minister and also Mohammad Bagher Ghalib, the chief
00:13:21negotiator, do you see them having the ability
00:13:27to have the final say? Because it seems that ultimately, someone needs to be found who can
00:13:30have the final say. The short answer
00:13:34is no, with the current composition of the executive
00:13:38body and the ruling body in the Islamic Republic.
00:13:41As evidence, Mohammad Bagher
00:13:45Qalibaf, upon his return from his trip to Islamabad, first,
00:13:49immediately after signing the memorandum of understanding,
00:13:52when he came under pressure,
00:13:56despite his initial positions being more moderate,
00:13:59he suddenly made a very clear
00:14:03turn and rotated 180 degrees
00:14:06to the opposite of his previous positions. Regarding
00:14:09the Strait of Hormuz, he had stated that the Islamic Republic can no longer
00:14:12maintain its dominance over the Strait of Hormuz,
00:14:15according to the principlists or the hardline faction,
00:14:19and continue to exert sovereignty over the strait. Regarding
00:14:22the nuclear program, he had shown flexibility. He had even established a principle
00:14:26that we do not have the ability to establish
00:14:30a balance of power with the US. He abandoned all of this. Now
00:14:33his language is a language that
00:14:36is in harmony with and in agreement with the hardline
00:14:40faction. You see his advisors, including Mehdi Mohammadi.
00:14:44His own language and his own absence have almost, one could say,
00:14:47disappeared now in the horizon, in the horizon that these
00:14:50hardline forces have drawn. At least until now. Now, whether
00:14:54from now on, another layer of Islamic Republic officials
00:14:58will be eliminated in a short-term, temporary conflict
00:15:01and these forces, like Qalibaf,
00:15:04will be able to gain the upper hand as chief negotiators, that's
00:15:08another matter. For now, the answer to your question is no. Thank you,
00:15:12Mostafa Daneshgar, political analyst of Iranian
00:15:14affairs.
00:15:17As was said, the first part of the four-part interview series
00:15:21with Masoud Peskiyan, the Iranian President, with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, aired tonight.
00:15:25This episode was supposed to be released last night, but according to the President's office,
00:15:29due to the busy schedule of IRIB on the
00:15:33night of Arbaeen, it was postponed. Mr. Peskiyan, in a part
00:15:36of this interview, said that the Islamic Republic has been able to overcome
00:15:39the most difficult conditions after the revolution. He said that despite
00:15:43the crises of the past two years, Iran is referred to as a powerful
00:15:47country. Goncheh Heyubi Azad, my colleague, is here
00:15:50with me. Goncheh, you fully listened to Mr. Peskiyan's
00:15:54remarks. What did Mr. Peskiyan say? He first
00:15:57started by summarizing all the events of the past two years,
00:16:01from the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader, when he was in Tehran,
00:16:04to the 12-day war last summer and
00:16:08the recent 40-day war. He also mentioned it,
00:16:12and about who the people are, he said that all people
00:16:16are included in our governance, and ultimately, all people, regardless
00:16:19of gender, ethnicity, and so on, are important. And
00:16:23he talked about various topics, but this was only a 27-minute
00:16:27segment that we saw today. And he also talked about Mojtaba Khamenei,
00:16:30the current leader of the Islamic Republic, with whom Mr. Peskiyan had a meeting,
00:16:33and also about the killing of the wife of the former leader of the Islamic Republic,
00:16:37Ali Khamenei, and the events that followed.
00:16:41Let's listen to a part of Mr. Peskiyan's remarks.
00:16:45بشنویم
00:16:49And well, this very barbaric act
00:16:52was carried
00:16:55out.
00:16:58Of course, I didn't think this society, this country, could
00:17:01continue, but it did continue. Our new
00:17:05dear leader was re-elected.
00:17:09It's very difficult to communicate with him now,
00:17:13but his presence is a very great strength
00:17:17for us.
00:17:20Peskiyan talked about Mojtaba Khamenei, the current leader of the Islamic Republic
00:17:23of Iran, of whom only two officials have said
00:17:27they met him: Mr. Peskiyan himself
00:17:30and Ali Abdollahi, the commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya
00:17:34Central Headquarters. And Mr. Peskiyan talked about his meeting with
00:17:37his father, Khamenei, which he had previously said lasted two and a half hours. He said that
00:17:40his personality is different from what people say, for example, Mr. Peskiyan said that
00:17:44he is different from what they say, and they had a very warm
00:17:48encounter. Mr. Peskiyan also talked about January 8th and 9th
00:17:51and the protests, and about the numbers that have been raised regarding
00:17:55the killed. And he also said that after the war and after
00:17:59the killing of the former leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali
00:18:03Khamenei, many thought that the government would fall, and Mr. Peskiyan
00:18:07himself thought the same, but Mojtaba Khamenei replaced him.
00:18:10We are seeing his picture now, and we haven't seen a new picture of Mojtaba
00:18:14Khamenei after the war, and his messages are published in writing.
00:18:17This interview
00:18:20became very controversial and newsworthy
00:18:24because in its teaser, there was talk of resignation. Mr.
00:18:27Peskiyan denied that he had ever
00:18:30resigned and said he would not resign. Did we reach that part in this
00:18:34interview or not? In this interview.
00:18:37No, but if I want to say what happened, a report
00:18:41was published in early June that Mr. Peskiyan had resigned,
00:18:45and this resignation was due to his disagreements with the Revolutionary
00:18:48Guard and with the hardliners within the government. And at that time,
00:18:52Mr. Peskiyan's office denied this, saying that such an event had not occurred.
00:18:56This week, it became noisy again because of the words of one
00:18:59of the ayatollahs in the country, and that he had said
00:19:02that Mr. Peskiyan, if one of the clerics
00:19:06close to the house of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran,
00:19:10in fact, Mohammad Bagher Kharazi, had said that Mr. Peskiyan had repeatedly told
00:19:14Mojtaba Khamenei that he had resigned, and this resignation was not accepted.
00:19:17Even the number 28 times was mentioned. Mojtaba Khamenei's office
00:19:21immediately reacted without mentioning Mr. Kharazi's name and
00:19:25said that all information is published from the office itself, not
00:19:29things that others say. And Mr. Peskiyan also in this
00:19:32interview, it seems from his teaser that he denied this resignation and said
00:19:35he would announce it himself. But we don't know the sequence of events and some of these
00:19:39that were recorded, and that's why it's not clear. But what is certain is that
00:19:43this rumor continues. Thank you, Goncheh. Goncheh Azad,
00:19:46my colleague, here in the studio. Let's continue the program with a few short
00:19:50news items. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights announced that since
00:19:54March 19 of this year, that is, the beginning
00:19:57of the Hijri year, at least 56 people have been executed
00:20:01in Iran on security charges. Of these, 27 cases
00:20:04were related to the January protests.
00:20:07Volker Turk called on Iranian authorities to halt
00:20:11executions and to act to abolish the death
00:20:15penalty. Lebanese state media announced
00:20:19that one person was killed and 11 injured in an Israeli attack in the south
00:20:22of the country. The Israeli army announced that it launched these
00:20:26attacks in response to what it called a clear violation of the ceasefire
00:20:29agreement by Hezbollah. Meanwhile, the United
00:20:33Nations announced the return of more than 800,000
00:20:36Lebanese displaced people to their areas of residence.
00:20:40Despite a decrease in clashes after the ceasefire,
00:20:43approximately 360,000 people in Lebanon are still
00:20:47displaced. Nearly 26,000 people are housed in public
00:20:51shelters.
00:20:54The Ukrainian president says widespread Russian attacks on
00:20:58Kyiv and its surrounding areas have left 21 dead and dozens
00:21:01injured. In these attacks, eight people were killed at a train
00:21:04station in eastern Kyiv, and several others were killed in an attack on a
00:21:08post office. Volodymyr Zelensky said the lack
00:21:11of ballistic missile interception systems prevented the saving
00:21:15of some lives. Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones hit
00:21:18another warehouse.
00:21:31Turkey's ruling party and its allies have submitted a draft law to parliament
00:21:35that aims to reach a final agreement to end
00:21:39decades of conflict with the Kurdistan Workers'
00:21:42Party. Under this plan, with the permanent
00:21:45dissolution of the PKK, many former members of this group
00:21:48will be immune from prosecution. And the implementation of prison sentences for some others
00:21:52will also be suspended. This plan can also
00:21:56pave the way for the return of thousands of PKK fighters from Iraq
00:21:59to Turkey. This bill enjoys widespread support
00:22:03in parliament, but polls show
00:22:06public opinion is skeptical about achieving
00:22:09lasting peace. Earlier, I asked Abbas Vali,
00:22:12a political analyst in Turkey, how likely
00:22:16this bill is to resolve the four-decade conflict between Turkey and the PKK.
00:22:28That is, it's a kind of legal plan to solve this
00:22:32problem, apparently with 12 articles.
00:22:35But so far,
00:22:39the provisions and content of this plan
00:22:42are not clear. I spoke today with a representative
00:22:45of the HDP. They told me
00:22:49that apart from Mr. Ocalan and Mr.
00:22:53Erdogan himself and
00:22:56also Mr. Kalin, who is the head
00:23:00of Turkey's intelligence agency, so to speak, Turkey's
00:23:04security, no one else
00:23:06knows about the content of this plan. They only
00:23:10know it has 12
00:23:12articles. The rest is all, so to speak, more
00:23:16talk that is being said are guesses,
00:23:19meaning they think, meaning a kind
00:23:22of interpretation of some words and some things. What is
00:23:25clear in the Turkish press
00:23:29is that there is no talk of a general
00:23:32amnesty. That is, the government
00:23:36has refrained from giving a general amnesty to
00:23:39the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers' Party. What
00:23:42seems to be the case here within this
00:23:46framework, within this legal framework,
00:23:50is the issue of reducing
00:23:53crimes, so to speak. For example, from 15
00:23:56years to 10 years, from 10 years to 5 years.
00:24:00This is what I heard and
00:24:03also what was written in Hürriyet and some other Turkish
00:24:07newspapers. That was
00:24:10Abbas Vali, the political analyst.
00:24:14Extreme heat and unprecedented low rainfall continue to cause damage
00:24:18in large parts of Europe.
00:24:22In west Athens, the capital of Greece, firefighters worked all night to contain a large
00:24:26fire that has engulfed the forests. In the province
00:24:29of Limburg, Netherlands, efforts to control
00:24:33the flames continued until this
00:24:36morning. In southwestern France, residents are
00:24:40returning to a village that was severely
00:24:43devastated by last month's wildfires. Let's watch
00:24:46James Waterhouse's report. For a few days.
00:25:50that had previously sunk have been found, and now it is feared that
00:25:53potential shipping restrictions due to low
00:25:57water levels will also cause economic
00:25:59damage. It is predicted that within a week.
00:26:19Especially in France, where hundreds of thousands of people in the Gironde
00:26:23region were forced to leave their homes and are now
00:26:26returning as the fire is contained.
00:26:30My impression was that we were forced to leave the area because of the smoke.
00:26:34There was smoke everywhere. I didn't think we would face such a scene. It seems that this
00:26:38amount of damage was not enough. The explosion of hundreds of cannonballs
00:26:42remaining from World War II has also been added
00:26:45to it. These cannonballs have been revealed after the fire.
00:26:48Philip, the commander of the bomb disposal unit, says
00:26:52that local residents initially thought that the sound
00:26:55of the explosion was due to gas cylinders. These munitions
00:26:58are dangerous. When the weather gets cooler, we will detonate them.
00:27:02Because we don't want to start another fire. July
00:27:06was the hottest month ever recorded in France, and in the past
00:27:09century, the Earth's temperature has continuously gotten
00:27:12warmer. However, this trend is happening at a faster
00:27:16rate in Europe. This means that heatwaves
00:27:20will be more intense and more frequent in the future.
00:27:23The burning of fossil fuels is changing summers in various
00:27:26ways, and Europe will feel its impact
00:27:30more than ever before.
00:27:50They use fake names, their phones are disposable,
00:27:54and they remain hidden from sight. Not to escape
00:27:58the law, but to expose lawbreakers.
00:28:01شکنا.
