00:00:18of thousands take to the streets across France as a student led
00:00:21protest
00:00:22in over conditions in schools grows into a nationwide movement. And
00:00:26Israel marks three years since the October 7 attacks with memorials.
00:00:30held across the country as questions over security,
00:00:33accountability and the consequences
00:00:35of the war
00:00:38of continue. Let's begin in France, where student lead protest over
00:00:42conditions in schools has grown into a nationwide movement involving
00:00:46parents, teachers, university students and trade unions.
00:00:50Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets demanding more teachers,
00:00:54better school buildings and greater investment in public
00:00:57education.
00:01:04of
00:01:09of What began as frustration inside a handful of
00:01:12classrooms has now brought hundreds of thousands of people
00:01:16onto the streets of
00:01:17France.
00:01:23High school students say overcrowded classes, missing teachers
00:01:27and deteriorating buildings are making.
00:01:30we
00:01:36of sometimes in certain had
00:01:38Last to year, sit classes on the floor to be able to take notes. We also
00:01:42had no French
00:01:43a teacher a for two months at the start
00:01:44of the year. It's been like that for years and we have been complaining
00:01:48about educational conditions that are simply not acceptable, yet
00:01:52there has been no response from the government, no response at
00:01:56all. The movement began in the...
00:02:00Paris suburbs in September and quickly spread across the
00:02:04of country, students are demanding absent teachers be
00:02:07replaced, aging schools repaired and overcrowded
00:02:11classes reduced. They are also calling for changes to
00:02:15parcour, France's
00:02:17a university admission system. Basically what's happening is that um
00:02:21lots of students cannot bear anymore the conditions
00:02:24of the educational system in France uh we just want to
00:02:28say stop to that as lots of manifestation during the 90s
00:02:32and even before um there's a lot of bad
00:02:36conditions, the teachers are not well paid at
00:02:39all, we're also talking about uh everything that's
00:02:43going on with the state and basically everything that
00:02:47we cannot bear anymore um and i
00:02:51think the students are in friends are really fed up because of everything
00:02:55that we're going through uh our schedules are full we
00:02:59cannot do anything a part of that and
00:03:02basically it's just lot adding up each other, the
00:03:05schedules, the
00:03:07of lifestyle, the gas prices and basically the inflation in
00:03:11general, and it's just a big um manifestation for
00:03:14everything going on with
00:03:16that. Tuesday
00:03:20marked the largest mobilization so far, the French
00:03:24interior
00:03:25of ministry of said around 256,00 people
00:03:28demonstrated nationwide. while student organizations put the
00:03:32figure at 45000.
00:03:36parents, teachers, university students and unions
00:03:40joined the marches and almost 900 high schools
00:03:43experienced
00:03:44of some of form of disruption. the main
00:03:48reason we're here is to
00:03:50of support high school students in their demands. the second reason
00:03:54is to be here to protect our children, because they are
00:03:57children. most
00:03:58of them are minors. And given everything that's happening, we're here
00:04:02to protect them as best we
00:04:04can.
00:04:11Most
00:04:12of demonstrations passed without serious disorder, but there were clashes in
00:04:16several
00:04:16cities.
00:04:23Police use tear gas in
00:04:25of Paris and Marseille and water cannon in Gren, while groups of
00:04:29protesters. barricades and threw objects at
00:04:32of offices. a Hundreds were arrested on
00:04:36Tuesday, taking the number detained since late September to
00:04:40more than 6,500.
00:04:43The protests have also triggered criticism of police
00:04:47of tactics, particularly because many of those taking part are minors,
00:04:51while the government says officers have faced repeated violence and
00:04:55attacks on
00:04:56of public property.
00:05:00Prime Minister Sebastian Lecorneu says the concerns raised by
00:05:04students are being taken seriously, but has condemned the
00:05:08violence surrounding some
00:05:09demonstrations. The Government has
00:05:13promised action on teacher shortages, school buildings,
00:05:16timetables and university admissions with initial measures
00:05:20expected later this
00:05:21month.
00:05:25And now to Israel where memorial events have been held to mark three years
00:05:29since the Hamas led attacks of October 7, 2023, in which
00:05:33around 1,200 people were killed and
00:05:36251 taken hostage. The anniversary comes as
00:05:40Israelis continue to debate the security. failures surrounding the
00:05:44attack, the war that followed at the country's political
00:05:47future.
00:05:53at exactly 6:29 in the morning, Israel stopped
00:05:57to remember the moment the October the 7th attacks began the
00:06:00years ago. memorial events were held across the country
00:06:04for those killed and taken hostage during the Hamas led
00:06:14Among the places of remembrance was the site the Nova Music
00:06:17Festival where hundreds were killed after militants stormed the
00:06:21event near Gaza. An Israeli military
00:06:25investigation later found that 378
00:06:28people were killed there and 44 taken hostage.
00:06:32At the United Nations, Israel's ambassador Danny Dannon
00:06:36said the attacks had left lasting scars, but insisted the
00:06:40country had emerged more resilient. 3 years ago on
00:06:44October 7th, Hamas tried to break
00:06:47us, they did not, they changed
00:06:51us, they wounded us, they left scars that
00:06:55will never fully disappear, but they
00:06:59did not break us, we still have challenges ahead of
00:07:03us, hamas and khizbala must be
00:07:06desarmed, Iran still six hour
00:07:09destruction, the security threats around does continue to
00:07:13evolve, even in this building, the UN is
00:07:17trying to demonize and isolate Israel,
00:07:21they have turned the victim into the accused.
00:07:25we are strengthening our alliances, we are expanding
00:07:28our circle of peace, and we will proudly share Israel's
00:07:32story with the entire world, not only the story of
00:07:36what happened to us, but the story of what we built
00:07:40afterwards, that... is what
00:07:43resilience looks like, that is the resilience
00:07:47of um
00:07:47Israel.
00:07:53have hope, peace is possible,
00:07:57America will stand with the Jewish people. the
00:08:01terrorists are on their back foot. be
00:08:05strong, be resilient, be
00:08:08wise, and know that what you're doing,
00:08:12is right, stand with your moral compass and know that this
00:08:16administration, the United States of America stands with
00:08:18you.
00:08:22However, this year's anniversary is also taking place against
00:08:26a political backdrop. In Tel Aviv, demonstrators
00:08:30blocked the IAlon highway, displaying signs linking October the
00:08:347th with Israel's general election later this
00:08:37month. The October 27th vote will be the
00:08:41country's first parliament. election since the 2023
00:08:44attack.
00:08:50for many Israelis questions remained over how the attack was
00:08:53allowed to happen and who should be held accountable.
00:08:57prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced continued demands
00:09:01for an independent inquiry into the security failures
00:09:05surrounding that day. Netanyahu used the anniversary
00:09:09to repeat his pledge that Hamas would no longer rule.
00:09:21In Israel we know whom we are fighting against and what we are
00:09:24fighting for, against those who want to annihilate us and for
00:09:28the sake of securing our future, securing the eternity of
00:09:32Israel. Understanding this mission will continue to guide us as
00:09:36we face the challenges the future. There are threats and we will
00:09:40act against them. There will be.
00:09:42according
00:10:02to Gaza
00:10:03health
00:10:07authorities, while large parts the territory remained
00:10:10destroyed. Brokert ceasefire took
00:10:14effect in October last year and largely ended major
00:10:17combat operations, but Israeli strikes and other military
00:10:21activity have continued. The United Nations said,
00:10:25humanitarian needs remain overwhelming with most families
00:10:29still facing shortages of shelter, medical supplies and
00:10:33other essential
00:10:34services.
00:10:39over to Yemen now, where renewed fighting is forcing more families from their homes
00:10:43and placing growing pressure on hospitals and basic
00:10:46services aiden. health officials say facilities already
00:10:50struggling with shortages of medicine and equipment and now treating
00:10:54increasing number. of displaced
00:10:56patients
00:11:00for families now sheltering in displacement camps, the journey
00:11:03safety has often meant fleing through intense shelling and
00:11:07leaving almost everything behind. many arrived
00:11:11exhausted after days on the road, carrying only what they could
00:11:14manage as they search for somewhere safer to
00:11:17stay,
00:11:21suddenly while we were fleeing on the road, we heard...
00:11:55hospital is seeing growing numbers of patients, health officials say the
00:11:59additional demand is putting more pressure a system that had barely
00:12:03begun to recover. the health
00:12:06sector has not fully recovered, it had begun to
00:12:10recover, but waves of displacement have put pressure on health
00:12:14facilities
00:12:14again.
00:12:19inside the hospital, shortages are affecting even routine
00:12:22treatment, staff say
00:12:24the urgently
00:12:32I received half of his treatment from the hospital, but they were unable
00:12:36to provide the rest, so I had to obtain it
00:12:39elsewhere.
00:12:49The renewed fighting comes top of an already severe
00:12:52humanitarian crisis. 2 million children
00:12:56under five were projected to suffer acute malnutrition in Yemen
00:13:00this year, including more than half million with severe acute
00:13:04malnutrition. We are seeing an
00:13:07uptake in acute malnutrition among children,
00:13:11including the worst form, which is severe acute
00:13:14malnutrition. So every day we are seeing more and
00:13:18more cases in these in these mobile and
00:13:22alternutrition clinics that we've set. up not just
00:13:26around Adam, but in all all accessible
00:13:30areas where IDPs have arrived and where we can
00:13:32assist.
00:13:37Meanwhile, fighting continues around T and the Red Sea
00:13:41coast. Saudi backed government forces have retaken territory
00:13:45around the Bab el Mandab straight, while Houti forces have responded
00:13:49with missile and drone attacks on targets inside Saudi
00:13:52Arabia. has displaced well
00:13:56over 100 thousand people and intensified a
00:14:00conflict that has already left millions dependent on humanitarian
00:14:03assistance.

00:15:59Kenya is stepping up surveillance at airports and border crossings
00:16:03after confirming its first ever imported case of

00:16:13"the patient had been living in the Democratic Republic the Congo
00:16:17and traveled through Uganda before flying to Nairobi on October
00:16:21the 3rd. Tests later
00:16:25confirmed the Bundibugio strain of Ebola. The patient

00:17:07for a quarantine of those at risk has
00:17:11been prepared and this is to protect the
00:17:15public health and so the
00:17:19arrangements for where they will be quarantine has already been prepared
00:17:23and it's ready and i wish to reitate that
00:17:26we have continued to maintain as a country a high
00:17:30level of a lot for ebolla since the
00:17:34outbreak began in May of 2026.
00:17:39The case comes as the Democratic Republic the Congo
00:17:42battles its largest recorded Ebola outbreak.
00:17:46More than 8,000 cases and almost 4,000
00:17:50deaths have been confirmed across seven provinces.
00:17:53While
00:17:54we are beginning to see reduction in transmission in some areas, the number of cases
00:17:58remains high for this outbreak. We know that for Ebola Disease,
00:18:02early access to care can significantly improve chances of
00:18:05survival, yet in this... many people are still dying at home or
00:18:09in their communities because they are unable to reach health facilities on
00:18:13time.
00:18:16children have been particularly affected. UNICEF says
00:18:20more than 1,900 have lost or become
00:18:23separated from parents or caregivers since the outbreak began
00:18:27in May. More than 2000 children have
00:18:31also contracted Ebola with more than 1100 deaths
00:18:35recorded. Among infected. children under five,
00:18:39seven in 10 have died. Unicef is supporting
00:18:42nurseries beside treatment centers where children can be cared
00:18:46for while their parents receive treatment. so there is like a
00:18:50visit in a protected environment with a protocol
00:18:54where actually the mothers and the fathers can see their
00:18:58children can interact with you distance of
00:19:01course, but really that also is a way of maintaining the link
00:19:05with with the families and and also to... reduce the risk for for the
00:19:09children to be too far from their their
00:19:12part, so definitely there are several risk associated
00:19:16with the the the virus, one them the children themselves
00:19:19fell sick of course, but one them is to to be left
00:19:23without parents and without family, immediate family they can take care
00:19:27them, we are working with the ministry with the government in terms of
00:19:31getting the real numbers, the estimate, the reported
00:19:35estimate is is... 1,900
00:19:38children, they could be more, so is important
00:19:42that we continue to have a strong monitoring system and and also make sure
00:19:46that people know about this service, because we know that one
00:19:49the resistance factor in the communities for
00:19:53mothers to give away their children, they don't know how they're going to be
00:19:56followed, so the morals in terms of community engagement,
00:20:00sensibilization and and really make sure the
00:20:04people are in the communities are aware that there is c
00:20:08for their children so that they are less resistance to
00:20:12seek treatment. while there
00:20:14is currently no approved vaccine against Ebola Bundibugyo
00:20:18virus, vaccine trials are underway. last
00:20:21month, WHO announced that 20,000 doses the
00:20:25Ervebo vaccine, which has been effective against Ebola Zayer
00:20:29virus in the past, have been allocated for a research vaccination
00:20:33program in Ituri province.
00:20:38and now to Sudan where displaced families returning to Kartum are finding
00:20:42the capital still struggling to recover from years of conflict,
00:20:46damaged homes, long power cuts and rise in prices are making a
00:20:50difficult for many residents to rebuild their lives, even as fighting continues
00:20:53elsewhere in the
00:20:54country.
00:21:01for families returning to Kartoon, coming home has not meant
00:21:05returning to normal life. many are finding damaged
00:21:09houses, unreliable electricity and water, and rebuilding
00:21:12costs they can barely afford.
00:21:16we returned to our homes and found them, as you can see.
00:21:20in complete ruins, faced with this, we found ourselves
00:21:24an extremely difficult situation, which left us
00:21:28frustrated.
00:21:33Muhammad returned to six months ago, after a long
00:21:36period of displacement, he says the stability his family hoped
00:21:40to find has been replaced by another set of daily
00:21:44struggles.
00:21:48We had hoped to find stability.
00:21:51our homeland, but instead we were confronted with very grim
00:21:54reality. The Sudanese
00:21:58Army declared Kartum State under its full control in May
00:22:012025, after pushing the rapid support forces from their
00:22:05remaining positions in the capital, but restoring basic
00:22:09infrastructure has proved far more difficult. The United
00:22:12Nations Development Program estimates that Sudan's electricity
00:22:16network has suffered up to $3 billion dollars in damage. since
00:22:20the war began. In parts of Cartoon, residents say
00:22:24power can still be unavailable for most the
00:22:26day.
00:22:30We have many demands, foremost among them, reliable
00:22:34electricity supply, because the power is cut off for long
00:22:37periods. We cannot even get cold water, and when we
00:22:41do,
00:22:41it is only with great difficulty. Prices in the markets are
00:22:45astonishingly high. And well
00:22:49family. return to the capital, fighting continues
00:22:52elsewhere. In South Cortafan, aerial attack on two
00:22:56world food program trucks killed a driver as the vehicles
00:23:00carried food between Dilling and
00:23:01Kadoogli. The United Nations says
00:23:05violence in Blue Nile State has also displaced more than
00:23:0910,00 people since late September, while funding
00:23:12shortages are reducing assistance across the country. Are
00:23:16human hearing colleagues tell us that fighting in Blue Nile State continues to drive.
00:23:20people from their homes, the international organization for migration
00:23:24reports that more than one more than 10,00 people were
00:23:27displaced within the state between the the 26th of September
00:23:31and October 4th. Meanwhile, food insecurity is on the rise as funding
00:23:35cuts disrupt essential services. The international rescue committee
00:23:38warned last week that it has been forced to reduce support for more
00:23:42than 473 people across Sudan. The
00:23:46outlook is grim across, we're below average and uneven. rainfall
00:23:50are adding to already severe humanitarian needs, our
00:23:54partners working on food estimate that 7.1 million the
00:23:579.1 million people expected to need food assistance during the final
00:24:01quarter of this year could face gaps in support. Sudan is now
00:24:05divided between rival administrations and areas of military
00:24:09control. the Sudanese armed forces control Khartum and
00:24:13much the north east and center the country. An RSF
00:24:17led parallel administration formed by the Sudan. and founding
00:24:20alliance is based in Nala and operates in areas controlled by
00:24:24the RSF and its allies, particularly across western
00:30:51Welcome to the gavel, I am Terry, ikumi, well, it's no longer
00:30:55news that politics seems to have taken over parliamentary
00:30:58activities, considering.
