00:00:00to buy fool, which is not more than
00:00:03in 2000 or 3000, you see they come out with policies without thinking through
00:00:07it, they just announced it, go to NMPC
00:00:11filling stations and buy to buy a foil at
00:00:13of reduced
00:00:14of price, dam drivers to the feeling stations, and then
00:00:18they ask have you downloaded an app,
00:00:22they did not educate people, they do not inform people, they
00:00:25panicked because
00:00:27of people
00:00:28of are saying things are getting out of control. bad and so they quickly
00:00:32came out with what they call this palliative, it is not palliative, it
00:00:34decides, this is the reality, go to the filling stations
00:00:38and see what is
00:00:40of happening, this is what we do, as journalists you should also do that, we
00:00:44go out and find out what people are saying, are they getting the fool at the
00:00:48price the government said they will get, why are they not getting it,
00:00:52so it's another avenue for
00:00:53corruption,
00:00:58of well um the come back i and ask him
00:01:02that question
00:01:02uh because that's not for for now and
00:01:06of ask him what uh
00:01:08of an up means in Europa
00:01:10language
00:01:17well let's just tap it down a bit
00:01:19would you like to tap it down a bit would you like
00:01:20of to
00:01:21in help me how do you say app an application in
00:01:23house
00:01:28of up this uh I'll tell you all right, Dr. Zak,
00:01:32let's
00:01:32in now of come back to this issue as we wind down, um, I'm trying to look at
00:01:36assurances uh, that Nigerian should hold to, what
00:01:39assurances should Nigerian seek from the government, and
00:01:43even INEC and security agencies and the political parties to
00:01:47ensure a free, fair and credible 2027
00:01:50election. A recent survey has shown that majority of
00:01:54nigerians don't believe I could be free and
00:01:56of fair, and the list they have released recently yesterday. they
00:02:01of have - they have dropped so many names of leading
00:02:04party candidates in Karno, in Gombe and
00:02:08many other places, it's not a way of assuring
00:02:12people that you
00:02:13of are going to be free and fair, because
00:02:15of the activities in the past, people are very skeptical about, they have
00:02:19they
00:02:19of have lot to do to convince people,
00:02:21of and this intolerance which we've
00:02:23of started of with by
00:02:24of governors at the various states is also eroding
00:02:27whatever little confidence people have.
00:02:32go go to all the states, you the opposition parties are not
00:02:36allowed access to state control radio stations,
00:02:40state control television stations, go to most
00:02:44of the state, the
00:02:45the the bill boss, opposition parties are not allowed to
00:02:49have bill boss, they are supposed to pay, is it 50 million or 100 million in some
00:02:53state, is that how you practice democracy,
00:02:57because they are in government, they can still government money and
00:03:00of pay
00:03:00of 100 million for bill board, the opposition cannot do it, and so you
00:03:04can read election, not only on
00:03:06of election day, elections are even before
00:03:09of elections, election day, so you come up with all sort of
00:03:13policies that create obstacles for political
00:03:17parties, for opposition parties to
00:03:19a operate, look at
00:03:22of what is what happened to us in the other time, not only
00:03:25of was, in fact before we before they cancel it, i was told
00:03:29from people from Abuja that we should be ready, the university will
00:03:33in force to cancel
00:03:35uh uh the bookings we have made for booking we have made for house we were
00:03:39told two three days before
00:03:42because we because
00:03:44I think
00:03:44I think Dr. Dr. Mohammed Dr.
00:03:47Mohammed I'm afraid we're out of
00:03:50time and uh other we went to other hotels in they also told
00:03:54us that they were told not to accept our our not to accommodate
00:03:58us
00:04:00of intellectuals, what about
00:04:01in political parties and we've been able to accommodate you here on China's television,
00:04:05of which is a good thing and and
00:04:07of Nigerians have also been able to accommodate you, we also tried reaching
00:04:10out, no, no,
00:04:14it's not going to happen,
00:04:16Dr. Nigeria
00:04:19has gone past that, I like to thank you for your time, Dr. Siddiq Abubakar
00:04:22Mohammed is the executive director
00:04:24of the Center for Democratic Development, research and training in Zarya, Kaduna
00:04:28State, we also did. try to reach out to the Kaduna State Government and the
00:04:32APC to come
00:04:34of - speak on these very controversial issue as soon as we
00:04:38able to get them they'll be
00:04:39of here on
00:04:40of Sunrise Daily. We take moment and we will be back shortly to look at
00:04:43another burning issue concerning in opposition as we move
00:04:47towards
00:04:49of 2027. Stay with
00:04:49us.
00:05:01of The joys of life are found
00:05:04a of in moments, moments that makes us wonder, then fill our hearts
00:05:08with laughter. Moments we risk it
00:05:11of all for
00:05:11a craving. but the reward makes it all worth it.
00:05:15moments when you remind everyone of your greatness,
00:05:19moments when you feel like you need a hero, then you realize
00:05:23you're the hero you've always
00:05:24needed.

00:09:18by the labor party was one the major political platforms that reshiped Nigeria's
00:09:222023 election conversation, but with 2027
00:09:26approaching questions are emerging about the party's internal
00:09:29cohesion and the reported alignment of his youth wing with the
00:09:33ruling all progresses congress. what exactly is happening within the
00:09:37liberal party? is this case of individual political
00:09:40choices? a coordinated? for a symptom of
00:09:44deeper division within the party. To examine these issues, we
00:09:48joined now by K is
00:09:50a publicity secretary the liberal party, can
00:09:52good to see you and thank you for your time. Yeah, we have just
00:09:56less than 100 days to the big moment here in Nigeria,
00:10:00and many are still looking at that statement which was signed on October 3
00:10:04by your party. Let us in on the meet of that
00:10:07statement that speaks to some kind of a collaboration
00:10:11or alignment with the... in APC, thank you so
00:10:15much uh Suleiman, you see the last time I was in this studio,
00:10:18I I told you that um we have a presidential candidate
00:10:22that um we are packaging. and uh in no distant
00:10:26time we're going to unveil him short later this week the unveiling will take
00:10:29place so um in straight answer to your question that
00:10:33statement was not issued by the labor party you see
00:10:36you know we had a protracted crisis that rocked the party
00:10:40middle after 2023 election that crisis ended
00:10:43in the in in last year and
00:10:47uh before he ended it cost lot of uh hickups here
00:10:51and there within the ranks the party so what you see now is
00:10:55a is a is is something is more or less like hangover
00:10:59of that crisis that rock the party you know in the last two three years
00:11:03so um there was no statement issued by the labor
00:11:06party what happened was that there were two guys who
00:11:10have decided not to train the towel they were
00:11:14affiliates of the former chairman julius abure
00:11:18and uh these are his uh paid dogs that he has been
00:11:22using to create confusion within the labor parties. to confuse
00:11:25Nigerians, so um that statement was issued
00:11:29by by one them who used to be the national youth
00:11:33leader the party when Julos Abure was a national chairman, but he
00:11:37used you used the pseudonym to sign it,
00:11:41I said if if you read that correctly, I think he said
00:11:45the guy is the youth leader a do state or something, that name is
00:11:48nonexistent in the labor party e do, so
00:11:51but they are just doing all that to create confusion. within the
00:11:55racks the party, see this is what you get a system where
00:11:59a lot of young men who are supposed to be gamefully
00:12:02employed have found politics
00:12:06as a vocation, as a calling, it shouldn't be vocation,
00:12:10people who go people go into politics after having
00:12:13worked in several places gan had experiences, they come to
00:12:17politics to you know bring to the table those experiences
00:12:21they've gathered
00:12:22from you know all works of life to advance the course of humanity, you don't
00:12:26just graduate from the university and you your next stop
00:12:30is politics and that's what these young men are doing, they are in
00:12:33their 30s and when the national chairman left his
00:12:37office, they felt there was nothing else other than
00:12:41to hang around and see how they can create confusion, one them even says
00:12:45is the presidential candidate the labor party, that is how laughable this can
00:12:49be, so isn't this because that's that's a vacuum because the
00:12:52last time you were here was still... don't have a name to who
00:12:56your presidential candidate is, so uh, they've been able to try and
00:13:00fill up the space, if you don't mind, now you should be able
00:13:04to tell us who your candidate is, our candidate is
00:13:07Dr. Sunday, fine young
00:13:11man who whose ideas is with Nigerian
00:13:14youth, he has been speaking to Nigerians, he might not have come to China's
00:13:18TV, but he has been all over the social media talking to the youth in
00:13:22Nigeria because of his age, he's the youngest. among the park is in short is
00:13:26the most educated presidential candidate in Nigeria today, he has a PhD in
00:13:30governance and leadership, he's a fine gentleman that Nigerians are
00:13:34really beginning to buy his preachments, his you know his messages
00:13:38to Nigerias, so he is there, he's not, we don't have
00:13:42a presidential candidate that is hidden, so it's not like there is vacuum
00:13:46somewhere, it's just some people trying to just create confusion,
00:13:49so this statement saying that they are supporting they have
00:13:53adopted uh uh presidente, this is not
00:13:57from the labor party signed by comrade Ken or musi,
00:14:01i say that name is nonexistent in labor party, there is nobody that
00:14:04vers that name, and we
00:14:08and and and that statement did not emanate from the labor party,
00:14:12you see when this what kind of damage or concern such
00:14:15statements are causing your party as you move to the
00:14:19well this, when this happened some persons even wanted
00:14:23me to issue statements.
00:14:26to to deny this, i can't use the platform of national public secretary the labor
00:14:30party to respond to these people, i'll be oxygenating this, you
00:14:34understand? so i just felt maybe this morning maybe there's a need to
00:14:37just address it once for all and move on,
00:14:40you know the there is nothing happening in labor party other than the
00:14:44fact that there are two guys, we've reported because this is this is a
00:14:48brazing act of impessonation which we have even reported to the Nigerian
00:14:51authorities to look into, so um these are just to guys
00:14:55trying to use
00:14:56the their their presence within the social media to create
00:15:00confusion here and there, there is no, there is no vacuum, there's no confusion
00:15:04within the level ranks the labor party, this clearly is a threat has the labor
00:15:08party approached the police so that some kind of investigation we petition the
00:15:11authorities and they are looking into it, yeah so the investigation is
00:15:15ongoing, preliminary findings from your party uh should be
00:15:19pointing somewhere, is this from some we know where he
00:15:23emited from, i've told you that some guy who cl who was the
00:15:27national youth leader the party when Julius Abure was a chairman
00:15:31is the architect of this and he's even equally parades himself
00:15:35as the presidential candidate the labor party he can... understand what we are talking
00:15:38about, you understand? so a political party where INEc
00:15:42has said, "INEC is the regulatory authority for all the political parties in Nigeria,
00:15:46and has come out to say this is the the national
00:15:50leadership the party, you understand? in short, as matter of fact,
00:15:54inec has published names of presidential candidates and the fellow's
00:15:58name is not there. so why are you causing confusion everywhere? the courts in
00:16:02Nigeria have spoken about who who the leadership the labor party,
00:16:06who the national leader?" is the national chairman of lever party
00:16:10is the inec has gone to in clear obedience to the court orders
00:16:13inec has gone ahead to to recognize senatorsman as a national
00:16:17chairman the labor party, we have gone to self
00:16:21nomination forms to nigerians and they've bought a nomination forms and we prepared
00:16:25the list of our candidates and forwarded to INEC and INEc has published list of our
00:16:28candidates that excluded the fellow you understand
00:16:32so and he's still going around saying he's a presidential candidate and he's not even member the
00:16:36party to start. you now what worries many Nigerians is that the
00:16:40liberal party uh has been able in the last
00:16:43election uh to have what you call an unprecedented
00:16:47mobilization of huge number of Nigerians uh to get
00:16:51into the political fray uh it is
00:16:54sad that the labor party is still a mesh in some
00:16:58these issues
00:17:00uh what's the leadership doing to ensure that the labor party does not
00:17:04allow some these concerns uh that
00:17:08we're discussing now and some others uh impact
00:17:12negatively in his uh 2027 campaign
00:17:15well like you see
00:17:17this thing you're seeing
00:17:18is not peculiar to level party there
00:17:20are people laying claims here and there to one issues or the other even
00:17:24in APC so
00:17:26you know why that's why I said it's unprecedented the labor party
00:17:30came from the bring to being one the
00:17:33top level I mean political parties in Algerias. of
00:17:37young people the generation x z, so people are
00:17:41asking, how concerned are you to bringing the labor party
00:17:45back to design the where where
00:17:47it was in 2023? you know, it was so unfortunate that the moment that
00:17:51election ended, that crisis we went into that
00:17:54crisis, you,
00:17:56but we, gladly we've been out of it, and the current
00:17:59leadership championed by senatorsman is working -
00:18:03seriously to reposition the party where he was
00:18:07into. and even surpass it and as matter of fact
00:18:11uh she has made tremendous progress in that regard, we've gone
00:18:15to rebuild our structure even far better than how it was in
00:18:182023. the last time i was there i let you know that labor
00:18:22party today is better structured than he was in 2023
00:18:26today, if you had this kind of structure we have now in 2023 we would have
00:18:30been we would have won that election, that election we lost it on account of
00:18:34lack of structure because we have institutional members the
00:18:38party in NLC and the TUC that we did not honest that potential in
00:18:412023, their membership is captured in the constitution the party,
00:18:45but now we have gone back to marry the labor
00:18:48unions,
00:18:49the the organized labor, and you can understand with me and agree with me
00:18:53that there is no pulling unit area where you don't have a serving civil servant to
00:18:57retired one. let's bring in Iia from Lagas
00:19:00quickly, hi,
00:19:04so many issues to to look at really uh when all
00:19:07conversations are are coming up here and there, so just to be
00:19:11clear uh, Mr. Sowa, you're saying that the labor
00:19:14party does not have anything to do with the rainbow coalition
00:19:18being touted
00:19:19around.
00:19:25Well, what's the questions Suleiman posed here was as
00:19:28regards a statement issued by a
00:19:32certain Keno Mosu who said that he is
00:19:36the the the... state youth leader the party a those
00:19:39states and in that statement he proptedly endorsed
00:19:43president and said that he had that the labor
00:19:47party youth leaders of states have endorsed present bolatinu and
00:19:51we are saying that that statement did not come from us so now
00:19:55coming to the rainbow coalition labor party is not in
00:19:59any coalition with anybody we be it
00:20:02g100 because i know that there is another coalition called the g100
00:20:06coalition that is being hold by some opposition political parties, we are not part
00:20:10of that, we are not part the rainbow coalition as a political
00:20:14party, so labor parties going into this election as a stand alone
00:20:17political party, and we are angling, we have presented a presidential
00:20:21candidate that we believe has what it takes to govern
00:20:25Nigeria, to bring us out the woods and we are going out to campaign for
00:20:28him and produce him as the next president of Nigeria,
00:20:32now in terms of uh reaching out or conversing with
00:20:36young people, "It would seem like most the
00:20:39time, the only time we hear the voices of
00:20:42political parties or their spokespersons, it's towards
00:20:45elections, uh, how would you respond to any young person right
00:20:49now?" " asking that question, secondly, and I think Sili has
00:20:53referenced this, so let me be specific, the reason that
00:20:57there are those who believe that the reason that the Labor party, was so
00:21:01prominent in the 2023 election is because the candidacy
00:21:05of Mr. Peter will be, so but now, as Sulai
00:21:09has asked, we, I'm not even sure many people are
00:21:12aware that the liberal party has a presidential
00:21:16candidate, much less even see him visible, so what?
00:21:20are the chances that you see of your
00:21:23party making any significant inroad in this 2027
00:21:27elections? like
00:21:31i said earlier, we we are anchoring our hope on the
00:21:35structure that we have built nationwide, we have a
00:21:39formidable structure that can sustain
00:21:42victory, because last election we lost it because we didn't have
00:21:46structure to sustain our victory, now we have young... presidential
00:21:50candidate that that is already talking to Nigerians like
00:21:54I said, so um, I'm pretty sure that before this
00:21:58election takes place, Nigerians would have been able
00:22:01to absorb the the his messages and
00:22:05uh and get to see what he's telling Nigerians about, like I said, he is
00:22:09the most educated, he is the youngest,
00:22:11and you can agree with me
00:22:15that all over the world now there is a this shift that
00:22:18people should people should...
00:22:20look in the direction of young people, look at what's happening in Senegal where a young man who is
00:22:24less than 50 years you know is taking the the country to another level and
00:22:28it belongs to the age group of this our presidential candidates so
00:22:31yes I agree with you that in 2023 it will be brought some level
00:22:35of rejuvenation within the party yeah and when he left it looked
00:22:39like that dampun because because it was attended by
00:22:43some crisis that rock the party but we've come out of that and uh and
00:22:47we are progressing in the right direction those would also ask
00:22:51whether or not uh the labor party has become
00:22:54one, here is why, you you just mention now
00:22:58that even though the inec has and the court have recognized the
00:23:02leadership the labor party as is, there are those who would wonder
00:23:06whether or not on the one hand they uh
00:23:10hurts the former members the party or
00:23:14members the party that are offended or are not happy with the system
00:23:18have been assitched and secondly, this, I mean, you just
00:23:22spoke about one person having a dichotomy of sorts e
00:23:25states, the same thing is happening in River State, so it makes the question
00:23:29whether or not the labor party has actually healed the
00:23:33wounds within its own
00:23:34house.
00:23:38um, I or like I have always maintained, there is no
00:23:42political party that is free of people with
00:23:45divergent opinions, as long as it remains
00:23:49polities. uh about who gets what, when and how, people
00:23:53must express their views one way or the other, and sometimes those
00:23:56views might not be intandem with what the national leadership the party
00:24:00holds, so so and it it costts across every political
00:24:04party, even in APC that where they have the president, there are
00:24:08still people who disagree with him, there are people people who disagree with the
00:24:12leadership the APC, there's pressed one or two grivances within the ranks
00:24:15the party, it doesn't still make that party a party that is ridled
00:24:19with crisis, no, we don't have issues that - someone sat
00:24:23down a those states an unknown name that - we have
00:24:27verified and it doesn't exist and wrote a letter and say is
00:24:30endorsingful, it doesn't create crisis in labor party or someone
00:24:34in river state who said the belongs, he decided to join a coalition,
00:24:38the labor party, i am here to tell you as the national public security that we are not in
00:24:42any coalition, he did that on his own and uh and the
00:24:46party the entire party organ is not shouldn't be dragged into that.
00:24:50well can like to thank you for your time all - like speaking with you and we do
00:24:54hope that we also be looking to get
00:24:56in those concerned who
00:25:00signed that document as soon as our producers are able to get them
00:25:04they be here to speak towards if they truly uh
00:25:08faceless or they've got the face are you and uh
00:25:11well should we leave this for some other time do you have a word for
00:25:15app now in your language well
