00:01:58And now, the news.
00:02:05"the Nigeria revenue service has unveiled new tagline,
00:02:09reaffirming its commitment to building public trust and supporting
00:02:13sustainable economic growth through effective revenue
00:02:16administration. JAS has the
00:02:19of reports. The new tagline inspiring trust sustaining
00:02:22growth was
00:02:23of officially in onveiled recently by the executive chairman
00:02:26of the Nigeria revenue service Zak Adiji. alongside
00:02:30members
00:02:31of the services management team. the new
00:02:33of identity followed weeks of deliberation aimed at capturing the NRS's
00:02:37commitment to quality service delivery and a stronger relationship with
00:02:41taxpayers. the NRS tagline competition reminds us that the
00:02:44identity
00:02:45of the Nigerian revenue service is not shaped by top management
00:02:48alone,
00:02:49it is strengthened by the people who make this revenue administration what
00:02:53we are. what we avail today is more than a tagline. it is
00:02:56a distillation of our
00:02:58of ambition. the NRS we are building. must be modern,
00:03:02integrated, technology enabled, data
00:03:05driven and responsive, so let us internalize it
00:03:09when we launch it, let it reflect in our attitude, in the way
00:03:13we carry
00:03:14of ourselves of and the way we help our country to deliver on the
00:03:17a mandate
00:03:17of the president. the service says the tagline reflects its
00:03:21belief that
00:03:22of public trust is fundamental to effective revenue collection,
00:03:26while increased revenue supports Nigeria's long-term development.
00:03:30It is also positioned as both a promise and guiding principle for
00:03:34the
00:03:34a NRS as it works to deliver better services and strengthen its
00:03:38engagement to taxpayers across the country. The new
00:03:42tagline, inspiring trust, sustaining
00:03:45growth means a lot, because that aligns
00:03:49with the vision
00:03:50of the executive chairman. When we
00:03:54a sustain trust, it helps us to serve
00:03:58our taxpayers who are the... customers right, and then when we
00:04:02serve them right, with trust, we will be able to
00:04:05generate the revenue that we need to generate for the
00:04:09running
00:04:10of the country, when we do that,
00:04:13definitely we can be sure that the growth in the economy will
00:04:17be sustained. this was a complete inhouse bottom up
00:04:21exercise, and that's what we've seen, our new tax administration was
00:04:25designed and built entirely in
00:04:28house, the process. the competition was straight forward
00:04:32actually and i appreciate the
00:04:35chairman
00:04:37of the service for making it an in-house competition
00:04:41um getting ideas from
00:04:42a the staff actually so our core values at the NRS are
00:04:46values that inspire
00:04:47trust so
00:04:51once that trust is well established
00:04:54then the growth comes from what we actually do from our
00:04:59of mandate of '
00:05:03and collecting
00:05:03taxes. The Nigeria revenue service has called for improved productivity, effective
00:05:07time management and stronger team
00:05:10of collaboration to enhance tax payer experience. the call was made a
00:05:14workshop organized as part of activities marking customer service
00:05:18week 2026. just retour head again
00:05:21reports. speaking at the event, SA customer
00:05:25centricity Mrs. said excellent
00:05:28customer service requires staff to focus on meaningful
00:05:31results, meet deadlines and respond promptly to taxpayers
00:05:35and colleagues. this week provides an
00:05:38opportunity to celebrate the people.
00:05:42service happen, we recognize our
00:05:46colleagues who attend to tax payers or our
00:05:49customers, as we call them, respond to
00:05:52inquiries, resolve complaints, support
00:05:56operations and work behind the scenes to
00:06:00keep the service moving, she links the
00:06:04message to the services new tagline, inspiring trust sustaining
00:06:07growth, urgent staff to go the external in building tax
00:06:11payer trust, customer service week is asking us to now go
00:06:15the extra mile, so if we go the extra mile in
00:06:19inspiring trust and that
00:06:22we then sustain our growth, group
00:06:26director, medium and emerging tax, mr. dengar daniels
00:06:30stressed the importance of collaboration across
00:06:33departments, noting that tax payers experience the
00:06:37NRS as one organization, customer service
00:06:40we
00:06:44productivity, effective tax and
00:06:47team collaboration is
00:06:50particularly
00:06:52up as we continue to advance
00:06:56over the service and
00:07:00reform, especially as it relates to as the medium
00:07:04anders directorate. the workshop also
00:07:08highlighted initiatives such as ref 360 which are
00:07:11designed to simplify tax processes and improve
00:07:15efficiency for tax payers. The event concluded with call for
00:07:19customer service to become a continuous culture across the NRS
00:07:23rather than an activity limited to customer service
00:07:26week. meanwile, the Nigeria Revenue service,
00:07:29NRS has warned members the public against a
00:07:33forgilent recruitment notice circulating on social media and other
00:07:37online platforms. the service says the notice falsely claims
00:07:41to offer employment opportunity. communities within the agency and should be
00:07:45disregarded.
00:07:46Sir Amachido has that reports in
00:07:49a public notice, the NRS identified
00:07:51the advertisement titled Federal Inland revenue service,
00:07:55FIRS job vacancy replacement as fake and said it did not
00:07:59originate from the service. The service said the notice directs interested
00:08:03applicants to submit their personal information to an email address
00:08:07that is not associated with the NRS. The services thereforeing

00:08:59there they will guide you and they will take it off from there. tax payer
00:09:03that have issued that cannot be resolved with with relevant tax
00:09:07authority can go to tax on board uh
00:09:11tax on board. office, I think first of all it depends on
00:09:15um, what the issues are, do you get, if
00:09:19these issues are unresolved, I think the best thing for the
00:09:23taxpayer to do is to approach tax on board man,
00:09:26okay, yeah, so because that's actually the final you
00:09:30know point of at which the taxpayer probably
00:09:34can um get issues resolved, so if the relevant tax
00:09:38authority are unable to meet their demands and their issues so they
00:09:42can't the complaint with the tax on board office
00:09:45and that will be the appropriate next channel that they can use to resolve
00:09:49their issues. where can tax payer lodge a complaint of
00:09:53issue that is unresolved by relevant tax authority?
00:09:57okay, when an issue is unresolved by relevant tax
00:10:00authority, the tax payer can lodge the complaint to the tax
00:10:04onboard.
00:10:19Did you know the tax payer may lodge the complaint with the office the
00:10:23tax on board for complaints that remain unresolved?

00:10:34asu takes us on the knowledge zone.
00:10:36hello,
00:10:42welcome
00:10:42to knowledge zone. we dive deeper into the interesting
00:10:46conversations had on the streets, i rem your host, ashu
00:10:50abe. today's episode will be answering the question,
00:10:53where can tax?
00:10:55they are large a complaint of issue that is unresolved by the
00:10:59relevant tax authority. other tax
00:11:02administration act 2025, where a taxpayer has an
00:11:06issue or complaint that remains unresolved by the relevant tax
00:11:10authority. the tax payer may launch the complaint with the
00:11:14office the tax on board in accordance with the applicable
00:11:17provisions the act. the office the tax on board provides a
00:11:21formal avenue for taxpayers to seek redress in tax
00:11:25disputes and unresolved matters arising from the actions
00:11:28or decisions the tax authority. the tax payer should follow the
00:11:32prescribed procedure and timelines for the appeal or
00:11:36complain. over
00:11:45now to our professional insights
00:11:46segments.
00:12:03so my name is Arastus Mutui, tax
00:12:06ombudsman for Tanzania and so the
00:12:09organization is called taxman service, it's under the ministry of
00:12:13finance, so I'm heading the uh the institution,
00:12:16so the tax ombudsman office
00:12:20receives um and
00:12:23resolves complaints. on tax matters
00:12:27related to administrative, procedural and
00:12:30service issues, so the
00:12:34taxpayers would bring their complaints
00:12:37and then have the internal process to process
00:12:41them in a ne to
00:12:45resolve them,
00:12:46yeah,
00:12:52first of all, i would say um the
00:12:55our institution is fairly new, it's two and
00:12:59a half years old um and but
00:13:03has been an important pillar in our tax
00:13:07administration system, the tax
00:13:10ad we have vision
00:13:13of growing
00:13:15economy 10 times
00:13:19to in the next 25 years to
00:13:232050 and what will... have looked at is business
00:13:27environment is going to be imperative uh part
00:13:31of really great growth that we're looking out to
00:13:34um and the tax part is very a big
00:13:38part the you know business environment having a better business
00:13:42environment so from our side really we play a critical
00:13:45role in ensuring that you know we
00:13:49smoothen the business environment from tax you know
00:13:53tax tax complaints that management point of view or
00:13:57addressing point of view and that is very very
00:14:00critical and the way before i go to to the AI
00:14:04and all that and the way we do it really we
00:14:08receive case by case
00:14:10you know we have case by cases that we receive and resolve but from
00:14:14the cases we establish patterns and
00:14:17then we do systemic reviews which are very
00:14:21critical um and these ones we help you
00:14:25the recommendations that come out of that would go to the revenue
00:14:28authority to improve in the
00:14:31in the areas that
00:14:32you know tax payers are saying
00:14:33no no in these areas that you have issues in these areas
00:14:37that is one and where they are related to policy then we take them to
00:14:41the ministry of finance we would take them to the ministry of finance for consideration so
00:14:45that's a big area that we're looking forward
00:14:48to really enhancing
00:14:51especially in the
00:14:53in the effort to improve the business environment,
00:14:57so from a technological digitalization,
00:15:00technological point of view and now coming to the
00:15:03AI, it's an it's an very important element,
00:15:07from our side, currently we have um
00:15:11complaints management systems that people from all across the
00:15:15country can feed their complaints and we would process
00:15:18the complaints through the system um, and somebody
00:15:22will be getting notifications the stages that... the complaints is and all
00:15:26that, which is part of digitalization, but
00:15:30then we have opportunity uh from the AI point of view,
00:15:34AI is critical, it's it's coming an imperative.
00:15:38part the part the society and in this
00:15:41case taxation is not is not
00:15:45can will not be out of that, our counterparts
00:15:48from from the revenue authority they're working you
00:15:52know into the systems how they can integrate AI in
00:15:56really getting to uh serve the the customers
00:16:00- the you know the tax spares better really reading the patterns
00:16:04and all those things that can you come with AI from our
00:16:07side as well we are exploring on how we
00:16:11can you integrate AI into the
00:16:15complaints management system especially
00:16:19the customer care you know there are things
00:16:22that can be brought about and having the
00:16:25initial kind of analysis be done through
00:16:29AI and then the human intervention will come
00:16:32in there so yeah it's very critical element and you know as
00:16:36business evolve taxation tax administration
00:16:40evolved, it's a it's a central tool to play with or
00:16:43to have in the
00:16:45in the improvement of business environment and the taxation system in general,
00:16:49yeah
00:16:55like three four levels i would say of handling
00:16:59tax complaints, so the one level would
00:17:02be would be the revenue authority
00:17:05itself, you know the... when they do something taxpayers
00:17:09would you give feedback that these
00:17:12areas need improvement
00:17:16and and in that case you authority would
00:17:19address them so that's a first level um
00:17:23and then you have we have the tribunal an our case
00:17:27there too which is called the the the tax revenue
00:17:31appeals board and as a first level of entry for
00:17:35appeals and these are purely appeals. uh tax apps
00:17:39from the you know or from the objections that will be handled by
00:17:43by the revenue authority, if tax pay is not happy with that,
00:17:46will take it to the board for for
00:17:49uh for you for
00:17:52edudication um
00:17:55and then what do we do, there are a lot
00:17:59of uh
00:18:01cases that are administrative
00:18:04nature, procedural nature. service
00:18:07signature and what we are saying is instead
00:18:11these cases going to going
00:18:15to the court take long time to be addressed
00:18:18in car of course there there can be
00:18:22mechanism to address them and that's why then
00:18:26the bombersment system was created and also
00:18:30that is one leg but also there there's another leg given the way
00:18:33our tax system is structured there are various
00:18:39um interventions that um
00:18:41that tax payer may not access you know the the
00:18:45the tax appeals the tax appeals board given
00:18:49the nature the way the
00:18:51the tax legislation is framed um so let's say like
00:18:55enforcement issues if they want to close somebody's
00:18:58you know business or they want
00:19:02to you know hold on an account that person may
00:19:05not
00:19:06uh hold a bank account that person if feel that this
00:19:10is unfair may not go to to the the way the law is
00:19:14fred, they may not go to to the tax revenue appels
00:19:18board, so they could come to us, but again they also
00:19:22a nature of other other
00:19:25situations where you would find
00:19:28that we would be much more placed to address
00:19:32complaints coming from from that type of situation and area than
00:19:36the court system and give example, let's say for the
00:19:40customs and we import and export, there is cross
00:19:43border trade and we have the FCTA, it's a big
00:19:47thing, so an importer or exporter for
00:19:51that matter,
00:19:52you know um, if they have issue at customs
00:19:56level, they may not wait
00:20:00to go to court because it will attract demorages, it will
00:20:03attract storage charges, it will all those type of things, so they need
00:20:07a quick quicker resolution of you any issue
00:20:11that may have, so the ombudsman is well
00:20:14placed and well placed given the tools that we
00:20:18use to address the complaints to address such kind
00:20:22of complaints, so it's it's really looking at the
00:20:25360 degree of
00:20:27you know making sure that if there is anything that
00:20:31arises from the from the from
00:20:35the you know in the administration tax administration. system can be
00:20:39accommodated and can be resolved fairly and and
00:20:42well and in the quest really to improve the business
00:20:46environment here.
00:20:53we we are building bridges
00:20:54you know between taxpayer and uh and
00:20:58uh and the revenue authority uh quite we have addressed quite a
00:21:02number of tax complaints uh that we have
00:21:05addressed uh but the key thing as well is the systemic
00:21:09that we are really you know systemic review that
00:21:13we are really working on now so I would
00:21:16say building trust with tax payer building
00:21:20voluntary voluntary
00:21:23compliance, which is very critical in
00:21:27increasing, you know, increasing compliance, so we
00:21:31are playing role in that in
00:21:33that in those in
00:21:34those areas, but as well, I would say
00:21:38um, another area that we are really looking forward to is the cross
00:21:42border business, um, our country, borders eight
00:21:46countries, which is which is huge and advantage.
00:21:50and uh the business across these countries and for
00:21:54that matter today is going to become very critical, so we are pioneering
00:21:58conversation really around that,
00:22:01and we, we've brought our colleagues from other
00:22:04countries, and in this case the tax ombuds from other countries, we
00:22:08have formed forum where we can have this conversation, especially
00:22:12for the cross border uh trade, and we are going to
00:22:15engage in the near future really on how we can really
00:22:19uh um better player or
00:22:23enhance we enhance our role play in the cross border
00:22:27business, ombudsman system, it's an
00:22:30evolving uh, it's an evolving
00:22:33practice, traditionally we have had you know
00:22:37the tax administration and the
00:22:39court, there is lot that needs to
00:22:43be done in between, right? there's a lot that needs to be
00:22:47done in between, and if you look at the Africa and
00:22:51FC FTA
00:22:55um and our quest to really grow the business
00:22:58across Africa, countries are going to
00:23:01need um, are going to need the the
00:23:05flexibility that comes with ombudsman really to to improve the
00:23:09business environment, we are we are lucky that in
00:23:12Tanzania uh one the few countries that have this
00:23:15system um and it's going to be
00:23:20a competitive advantage really
00:23:23um for investments, for business,
00:23:27environment point of view, so I
00:23:30would ag you and advise and
00:23:34really push
00:23:37for
00:23:39uh other countries to consider
00:23:41you know setting up offices like this, because
00:23:44you know it helps big time, it helps a lot on really
00:23:48improving the business environment when will improve the business environment, businesses can
00:23:52grow, business can focus on growth and and and
00:23:56and and also attract investments africa
00:23:58we want to attract investors and you know we cannot
00:24:02just talk, this will be
00:24:03institutionalizing the framework
00:24:07to address such things like this, mean such like
00:24:11mean to framework like ombudsman would be really
00:24:14critical in in ensuring that
00:24:18that promise of business environment and investment environment,
00:24:22investment climate is
00:24:23enhanced.
00:24:31over to swateku for what's on the
00:24:33net.
00:24:39good day and welcome to what's on the net, my name is Joyce
00:24:43Wateku. at Brotto is asking, we applied for tax
00:24:46registration online since last week Thursday, we are yet to... get any
00:24:50response, other times within 24 hours, it is ready.
00:24:54what's happening now? at brotto, while some tax
00:24:57registration applications may be processed within 24 hours,
00:25:01processing time can vary depending on the verification required. if the
00:25:05application submitted last thursday is still pending, we advise
00:25:09the tax payer to check the status on the NRS self service portal.
00:25:13if there is no update, they can raise a support ticket with the
00:25:16NRS, quoting their registration details. so the
00:25:20application can be reviewed and the necessary action
00:25:23taken. as obafemi is asking, very
00:25:27informative, does the tax payer automatically receive credit for the withholding
00:25:31tax deducted, or is
00:25:32there a process for claiming the tax credit? the withholding
00:25:36tax deducted is not simply lost. it can be recognized as a tax
00:25:40credit once the deduction has been properly reported and
00:25:43validated. taxpayers should ensure that the withholding tax
00:25:47certificates and related records are available, and properly reflected
00:25:51in their tax account. where the credit is not showing, the tax
00:25:55payer should contact the NRS through the appropriate support
00:25:58channel for reconciliation and
00:26:33inspiring trust, sustaining
00:26:35growth.
