00:02:37his role in the Welcome back, dear viewers. We will start with
00:02:41our first segment, as the writer mentioned. A very important topic on
00:02:45us, not just in Al-Balqa, whether in food and health, and specifically some
00:02:47incorrect or wrong health information that we know about, whether it is healthy
00:02:51when we find the word "light" or "natural" on it, juices, granola,
00:02:55and a set of information that we will
00:02:58when some students commit talk about more today, and we will know what are the foods that must be
00:03:00on our daily breakfast table naturally and more
00:03:04healthily. We are honored to have with us
00:03:07as well. And you may have addressed now the therapeutic nutritionist, Dr. Kholoud Juwainat. Welcome. You have honored us. Welcome.
00:03:11Good morning to you. Welcome, Dr. Kholoud.
00:03:14This topic probably concerns many people.
00:03:18Healthy food. I want to stay healthy, but there is
00:03:21real healthy food and there is healthy food promoted
00:03:25as healthy. Let's talk about the difference
00:03:28between these two types
00:03:31or these two terms. Exactly, as you said,
00:03:34promotion attracts
00:03:37and absence? First, does he come on time the consumer. The word "healthy", the word "light", the word "sugar-free", the word "natural", the word
00:03:41"organic". All of these, when we look at the label, we choose
00:03:45Okay, he entered the lecture. Was that took the lead in the product. Right? These could be
00:03:48that indicates good, but not necessarily healthy, while healthy food is food
00:03:52that, if we look at its nutrition label, we find its ingredients
00:03:56are healthy ingredients. We found the amount of sugar in it is reasonable.
00:04:00We found the amount of fat in it is reasonable. We found that it does not contain
00:04:04additives. So, here we can say that it is healthy,
00:04:08as long as we consider the portion size and the amount we eat
00:04:11of it. Okay, doctor, we find some misinformation that goes viral on social media,
00:04:15and people often share it and give opinions without even referring
00:04:19to nutritionists. The issue of granola has also taken up a lot
00:04:22of rumors, whether it is beneficial or not. Exactly. Unfortunately,
00:04:26every now and then, a
00:04:27pressures from what we see product
00:04:29on screens is marketed very widely as healthy. What
00:04:32is granola? Granola is roasted
00:04:35oats. Up to this point, it's healthy. What
00:04:38you put on it or what is written in its ingredients,
00:04:42here it might not be healthy. Oats are a very
00:04:46have become a different person. You used to sit in healthy thing. We add nuts, cinnamon, a little honey. Up to this point,
00:04:49it's fine with our portion of two to three spoons.
00:04:53But when is it not healthy? Sugar can be added, maple
00:04:57syrup can be added,
00:05:00but we are not justifying that corn syrup can be added in large quantities, chocolate pieces
00:05:03can be added, dried fruits can be added. So,
00:05:06here we go to a lot of calories, a lot of
00:05:09sugar. So, here it will fall under something
00:05:13that is not healthy. The word "100% natural",
00:05:16does it fall under the idea that it is really healthy or not? No. Okay,
00:05:20it's important because not at all. And we go to
00:05:23juices. The juice at home that you made, I say
00:05:27that it is sugar. Right? 100%
00:05:32shelf in the supermarket, on the shelf,
00:05:36on the shelves, it's not possible for it to be
00:05:39sugar-free. Even the natural one, we
00:05:43mean, we put a glass of orange here, a glass of juice, and next to it four
00:05:46oranges in the glass. So, I always say that
00:05:50we should take whole fruits,
00:05:52take their fiber, which makes us feel
00:05:56fuller, reduces sugar absorption, it comes out gradually,
00:06:00and it is good for digestion, right? While
00:06:03juice is sugar. This is the point that
00:06:06we even see sometimes, whether it is natural and whether it has no added sugar. This is also
00:06:10a point that creates controversy, that there is no sugar in it, meaning it has sugar
00:06:13naturally, it has the sugar itself. Now, when we read the nutrition
00:06:17label, there will be an amount of carbohydrates, let's
00:06:20say 20 grams. Below it will be
00:06:2315 grams of added sugar. Sometimes people just
00:06:27look at the carbohydrates amount. No, there is something
00:06:30called added sugar. Right? So, here there is a large
00:06:34addition of sugar. Dr. Kholoud, I want to open with you the topic
00:06:37of sugar. Uh-huh. Today, people tell you, "I want to live
00:06:41without sugar. I am trying all my food without sugar."
00:06:45But this is not healthy for the body or the brain, because the brain needs
00:06:48sugar. So, today, how do we eat these
00:06:51products in a healthy way? And sugar must be
00:06:55present, and carbohydrates must be present, and fats must be present. This is
00:06:58what healthy food is, actually. So, let's talk about this point. Now,
00:07:02I am with taking our sugar from something natural, like fruits,
00:07:06dried fruits in amounts according to your daily needs.
00:07:10But when we go and say we choose a cake because I don't want
00:07:13to have sugar, I want to go and choose a product labeled "light", a product
00:07:17labeled "sugar-free", I go and eat from it freely because
00:07:21it is sugar-free. But always,
00:07:24the thing that we removed sugar from is rich
00:07:27in fats, it might have sweeteners added to it, it might have
00:07:31additives added to it. The same goes for things that are fat-free.
00:07:35They are fat-free, but they have things added to them,
00:07:38maybe sugar added to them, maybe starch added to them, so that the texture
00:07:43of it remains
00:07:45firm. So, for people with diabetes,
00:07:49we might allow them, for example, to eat some of these sugar-free
00:07:52products if they suffer from a specific disease. Okay, but a normal person,
00:07:56even someone who is losing weight, I am with them taking what they
00:07:59like, a small piece per day, a piece of chocolate, a piece
00:08:03of cookie that they like. This will not affect their weight loss. You were talking
00:08:07before about the quantity being what actually determines
00:08:10whether there is harm or benefit. The words "sugar-free" or
00:08:14"fat-free" tempt us to eat more, but even with "sugar-free",
00:08:17we might find that it has high calories. So, always
00:08:21reading the nutrition label is one of the most important things. We pay attention
00:08:25to it. Let's read the nutrition label. For example, we pick up a bag
00:08:28of chips and find that it has 100 calories. We are happy that
00:08:32it is 100 calories, but you find that the serving
00:08:35size is 30 grams. The whole
00:08:38bag will have 300 calories. So, always pay attention
00:08:44to the serving size. Dr. Kholoud, also regarding fruits. Now,
00:08:46we, people prefer fruits,
00:08:50but we have dried fruits and
00:08:52natural fruits. What is the difference between them? Their calories, their sugar, and which
00:08:56is better for people? Both are good.
00:09:00Dried fruits, we cannot deny their importance, how many concentrated
00:09:03minerals they contain, minerals and vitamins. However,
00:09:06we go back to the quantity. For example, we cannot eat five or six
00:09:10dates. Your serving of dates is one large or three small.
00:09:14We cannot eat a cup of dried apricots. Your serving of
00:09:17dried apricots is four pieces. So, I find them
00:09:21a good option for people who love sweets, meaning instead of a
00:09:24piece of chocolate, let's say we have dates with walnuts.
00:09:28I find that to be a suitable option. But natural fruits, of course, are indispensable.
00:09:31A person can have two to three servings, maybe four,
00:09:35according to their daily needs. Many of my clients
00:09:38in the summer say they love summer fruits, of course.
00:09:52But if he eats a large plate of fruit, then it's rich in sugar. Every piece of fruit
00:09:55contains a good amount of sugar. In the end, we have calories. Doctor, we're talking
00:09:59about breakfast and dinner only. We're talking about bread, which is the basic
00:10:02element that is always debated. Should I go for brown bread or oat bread, whole wheat? What's
00:10:06the best? They all have calories. They all have
00:10:09calories. White bread's calories are equal to brown
00:10:12bread's, but we always go for brown bread because of its dietary
00:10:16fiber, vitamins and higher minerals.
00:10:19So we get more benefits. But when you
00:10:22want to buy brown bread, you need to be careful
00:10:26and read the ingredients. It should be whole wheat flour
00:10:29at the first line, meaning the very first
00:10:32thing in the product, meaning at the very beginning of the line, the first word.
00:10:36So that's how we always read the nutrition label. The first words are the ones with the
00:10:40brown wheat flour in the middle or at the end, it means its percentage is low.
00:10:44Less. Dr. Kholoud, regarding protein
00:10:48bars. These protein bars are very common. They talk
00:10:51about, they talk about a meal, they tell you,
00:10:57now, who needs protein bars?
00:11:01Athletes need them, people who exercise
00:11:04daily or for long hours. People who
00:11:07do not meet their protein needs for some reason on a daily basis need them. So he
00:11:11needs 100 grams of protein, but he can't get them. Okay.
00:11:14Now, as a nutritionist, I tell you that anything
00:11:18processed, meaning the more lines
00:11:21in the ingredients, the more
00:11:24processed it is, the more letters,
00:11:28and numbers, the more additives and
00:11:31preservatives. So, we should have yogurt with a handful
00:11:35of nuts. If you ask me, I would say it's better than a protein
00:11:39bar. However, we cannot eliminate them. They
00:11:42exist. There are people who like them. For example,
00:11:45we can take them as an alternative to a high-calorie chocolate bar. But they
00:11:51Some of them, I mean, instead of a large
00:11:54chocolate bar or maybe instead of a sandwich, their
00:11:57calorie count is ultimately doctor, the
00:12:00promotional phrases. So you don't choose it because it says sugar-free. No,
00:12:04you have to read the ingredients and how many calories and how much fat it contains. We
00:12:07are happy to have you with us, Dr. Khouloud, and you are a therapeutic
00:12:11nutritionist. Welcome. Exactly. Thank you very much,
00:15:56of body health, then mental health is the basis
00:15:59of balance and success. For the first time in Jordanian
00:16:01universities, an initiative called "Under Pressure, Vent to Me"
00:16:05is launched from Al-Balqa Applied University
00:16:08to confirm that caring for students' mental health is no less
00:16:11important than their academic excellence, and that seeking
00:16:14help is a step towards a solution, not a sign of weakness.
00:16:18To talk about this pioneering and very important initiative, please allow
00:16:22us to welcome Dr. Atef Al-Qasem, President of the Psychological
00:16:25Sciences Association, and Dr. Areeb Abu Amira, Vice President
00:16:29of this association, to talk more and in detail about this
00:16:32initiative and how it will help students in general and medical
00:16:35students specifically at Al-Balqa Applied University. And we hope
00:16:39that this positive chain will extend to all
00:16:42our Jordanian universities. Yes, before we start our discussion with
00:16:45our esteemed guests, let's watch, dear viewers, this report, and we'll be back.
00:17:00Al-Balqa Applied University and the Psychological
00:17:03Sciences Association signed a memorandum of
00:17:07understanding to implement the national initiative
00:17:10with the aim of promoting mental health among university
00:17:13students and raising the level of psychological
00:17:17awareness and facilitating their access to specialized
00:17:20psychological support and treatment services.
00:17:24The memorandum includes the implementation of awareness and
00:17:27training programs, early detection of cases requiring intervention,
00:17:31and providing safe and confidential
00:17:34channels for referral and psychological support, in addition to training
00:17:39first aid and monitoring
00:17:42danger signs. This partnership comes
00:17:46to affirm the keenness of both parties to provide
00:17:49a safe and supportive university environment
00:17:52and to establish a culture of seeking psychological
00:17:54help.
00:17:57It is excellent to talk about initiatives related to university students, and this
00:18:01very important topic focuses on the psychological aspect. Most people look at the health
00:18:04or physical aspect, "you're fine." No, the psychological aspect is also very important
00:18:08and helps people to develop their lives and also to give
00:18:11more in the field they are working in. We will start with you, Dr. Atef,
00:18:14and please tell us about this initiative and its main
00:18:17goal. Okay, good morning to you and to the dear
00:18:21viewers. Actually, I am very happy,
00:18:24and the reason for my happiness today is the launch of this
00:18:27initiative, I mean, after what we saw happening
00:18:30in Jordanian universities, or some universities,
00:18:35suicide due to the absence of someone
00:18:39to turn to, or a psychologist to embrace this pain
00:18:43and hidden wounds and rebuild
00:18:45confidence and bring back the moment of awareness to reality.
00:18:49So this student resorts to thinking about suicide or even academic
00:18:53failure. And how many times have we cried out and said that
00:18:56we in universities need such an organized
00:18:59effort. And actually, after the suicide of the last female student, may
00:19:03God have mercy on her, at the University of Jordan, we in the association launched, after
00:19:06several consultations with colleagues in the administrative
00:19:10body and in the general assembly, this initiative with the aim of
00:19:13facilitating access to psychological services for
00:19:16students. And we contacted several universities, and it was
00:19:20Al-Balqa Applied University, frankly,
00:19:22responding in a qualitative and kind way
00:19:26administrative skill, because
00:19:29leadership means embracing any idea or
00:19:32any initiative that can
00:19:35help students and lead them to healthy psychological
00:19:39adjustment, away from pressures, away
00:19:42from thinking or even the psychological
00:19:45complications that students go through. You know, we are a society with many
00:19:49challenges. We have challenges for medical students specifically,
00:19:52academic challenges, challenges related to time, self-management,
00:19:55sometimes economic pressures that society suffers
00:19:58from. We live in slightly tense circumstances,
00:20:01even in
00:20:06in the inflamed environment in which we live.
00:20:09So, the convergence of these psychological factors may sometimes lead some students
00:20:12to collapse. So, we, as an administrative
00:20:16body, met and launched this initiative with the aim
00:20:18of reaching out to students who need
00:20:22such services. And frankly, Al-Balqa University did not fall short.
00:20:26I want to extend a special thank you to His Excellency
00:20:29President Dr. Ahmed Al-Ajlouni and to the Dean
00:20:32of the Faculty of Medicine, who responded very
00:20:35positively. Waiting
00:20:37for other universities to initiate
00:20:41contact with us and expand this initiative so that
00:20:44we can provide our services for free. We don't want anything
00:20:48from them,
00:20:54it is the honor of the profession for us. So any student, I mean, before
00:20:58we talk about the goals of the initiative, which are very broad, I mean, besides the psychological
00:21:01services that we will provide for free to our students, we also
00:21:05want to work on building psychological awareness, education,
00:21:09and continuous learning for university students. So we have
00:21:12a set of lectures that will be held, and there will be
00:21:15a set of activities and contributions in scientific
00:21:19end is to tell our students that you are precious
00:21:22to us, and what bothers and breaks you is our
00:21:25responsibility. So before you think about suicide, before
00:21:28you think that, God forbid, you might
00:21:32go to failure or choose a bad path,
00:21:35like drugs, like dropping out of
00:21:39your studies, there is a place that tells you, "Welcome,
00:21:42come and honor us at the association in complete
00:21:45confidentiality, and let's hear from you and vent to us." I mean, if
00:21:49you are under pressure. And you know, doctor, there are some
00:21:57frameworks. We know that there are many psychological disorders that students
00:22:00have before entering university,
00:22:04but from your work as a professor
00:22:07in the psychological field, Dr. Areeb, I might have seen many
00:22:11cases where students face pressure, and how you deal with it
00:22:14as a faculty member and also as a member of this association
00:22:18and this very important initiative. First
00:22:21the invitation. Uh, well, look, as
00:22:25teachers and faculty members at universities,
00:22:28students are definitely suffering. They have psychological pressures. Now, as
00:22:32a teacher, it's true that our main and first goal is the academic
00:22:36and educational process, but we also have another
00:22:40aspect, which is to observe your students and look
00:22:43at them. Now, the moment you feel that the student, or generally speaking,
00:22:47we want to say that this student is normal, or the student has deviated
00:22:51from the normal path, you have to
00:22:54look at whether he is still performing his duties as he used
00:22:58to previously in everything. You are talking about academic duties
00:23:01first of all. You are talking about social duties. You are talking about
00:23:05interaction. You are talking about the general appearance of this student.
00:23:09So the first indicator that your student is coming
00:23:13with psychological pressure or has started to suffer from psychological
00:23:17pressure is a difference or a disturbance or
00:23:20an inability to perform duties
00:23:23or to be able to accomplish
00:23:27social context in which he is present.
00:23:31Now, for us as psychological
00:23:34therapists, there is something very important, a primary
00:23:38and main indicator for any psychological disorder, which is a dysfunction
00:23:40of functions in social contexts,
00:23:44or what appears in the form
00:23:47of behavior. First, we, as first, we need to talk about two roles:
00:23:50your role as a teacher or
00:23:53a faculty member, and the role of the family
00:23:57this issue. First, we need to observe general and ordinary
00:24:00behaviors, such as, for example, at home, for example, I, as a mother, let me talk
00:24:04first about his eating, drinking, and sleeping habits. Does he talk
00:24:08to me or not? The normal
00:24:10life he used to lead, has it changed?
00:24:14And this change, we are actually observing it and looking
00:24:17at it in this, in the first axis, which is the family. Now, we come
00:24:20to the second axis, since I am a teacher. Now, is
00:24:23the student regular in attendance
00:24:27to the lecture or
00:24:29is he late? Does he ask for permission and leave the lecture?
00:24:35this student used to participate, but now he has stopped
00:24:38participating? Is he focused with me? Oh, he is focused with me. Is this student sleeping
00:24:42throughout the lecture? Is he absent-minded, not
00:24:45with me? If I ask a question, does he answer, focused with me through
00:24:49communication? Does he perform his duties? Yes. Then
00:24:53I look at the exams. Does he perform his exams well?
00:24:56Does he interact?
00:24:59Does he feel that his grades have changed or
00:25:02decreased from what he used to do?
00:25:06Does he feel that he has a problem or not? And then
00:25:10I, as a teacher, need to consider all these things.
00:25:13You used to participate and be active and attend the lecture
00:25:17and be committed. Suddenly, or gradually, you started
00:25:20to be late, your activity decreased, your grades started
00:25:24to drop, your interaction with your colleagues, your respect
00:25:27for your colleagues, even your interaction with me as a faculty member. You used to ask,
00:25:31you used to inquire, you used to add. Now you
00:25:36the front rows. Now you go to the back, or
00:25:39you hide. Excuse me, doctor, here we are talking about a very important point. We do not justify
00:25:43the mistake. I mean, the doctor mentioned suicide, and the writer
00:25:46noted that it is a problem that has appeared recently,
00:25:50this thing. We need to know its causes to solve
00:25:54any problem that arises later. And here, doctor, we are talking about the difference between the normal
00:25:57circumstances that a student goes through and the circumstances that can lead him to a problem
00:26:01or, I mean,
00:26:12we say that the difference between normality and abnormality
00:26:15kind. What does that mean? It means that I need the student to be
00:26:19stressed and anxious and to have
00:26:22a part, I mean, let's say a little pressure or suffering from
00:26:25a little pressure, anxiety, tension, and fear about
00:26:28his results, his grades, his achievements, his scholarship if he is receiving a scholarship.
00:26:44motivation is turning against the student, we say in the common
00:26:47proverb that anything that exceeds its limit turns against you. Here we need
00:26:51to pay attention. And I reiterate the points I mentioned earlier. If
00:26:54this pressure is normal, natural, and acceptable,
00:26:58and on the contrary, it is helping the student to be better.
00:27:06Let's go back to the doctor. I mean, let's talk today about how
00:27:09this initiative will reach students at the university, and how they will access it, and how
00:27:13it will be promoted, doctor. Okay, this is actually
00:27:18we have set a set of mechanisms. The first mechanism
00:27:22is that we will have communication between us and the counseling
00:27:25center in the Faculty of Medicine, and if there are other centers
00:27:29affiliated with other faculties, we will also meet with them.
00:27:32So our numbers
00:27:35in the association will be circulated to all students of the Faculty of Medicine
00:27:39via phone. In addition, we will have a set
00:27:44and active participation in the
00:27:48So there is a role for us from the
00:27:51and there is a role for the university to facilitate
00:27:55students' access to us in complete confidentiality. And how much do they contact you, doctor?
00:27:59How is the contact with this association? Let's talk about this point
00:28:02as well. Now, look, we are ready today to launch the initiative,
00:28:08Saturday to Thursday to receive any student
00:28:11free of charge if he is suffering from psychological
00:28:15pressures. Now, we have a system in Jordan, and this is known at the National
00:28:18Council for Family Affairs, which is the referral system,
00:28:21which is the path, the pathway
00:28:25system. The student contacts the university. The university's numbers
00:28:28will already be available on the information boards inside.
00:28:41I mean, I want to, I mean, specifically to the students, I mean my message
00:28:44to the students. Any student who sees
00:28:48Jordanian or Yarmouk or any university, if you feel
00:28:52that the pressure on you has become
00:28:55unbearable and you cannot cope
00:28:59with it, and you start to experience some forgetfulness, some
00:29:07take care of yourself. If you don't take care of yourself and love
00:29:11yourself, no one else will care for you.
00:29:14The ball is in their court. Right, and the idea is that you are distributing it in all places, and
00:29:17also spreading it in every university. Your efforts are appreciated, doctor. You were with us, Dr. Atef
00:29:21Al-Qasem, President of the Psychological Sciences Association, and Dr. Areeb Abu Amira,
00:29:24Vice President of the Association. Thank you very much for your presence and your
00:29:27blessed efforts in this initiative, and we hope to follow up with you. Thank you.
00:29:31Thank you very much.
00:29:51O boat going to
00:29:53Aqaba, go to Aqaba, it brings
00:29:57back the soul, it has the sea, it has night life, it has
00:30:00adventures and the sweetest memories.
00:30:02It has restaurants, markets, and the largest water park,
00:30:05and its prices suit all budgets. Every corner
00:30:09tells you stories. Go to it, go.
00:30:12Aqaba brings back the soul. O Aqaba, O bride
00:30:16of the sea, O
00:30:18majestic one.
00:30:23In every old scene there is a story still alive
00:30:26within us.
00:30:32Oh
