00:00:21Good evening, you are watching N1 news, I am Maja Žežilj, this is the news
00:00:25of the day,
00:00:27get lost, you idiot, what's wrong.
00:00:31no, the mayor of Belgrade suspected of inflicting
00:00:34serious bodily harm and violent
00:00:37behavior, the prosecution confirmed to N1.
00:00:40On the eve of the assembly session on Šapić's dismissal, Belgrade
00:00:44was plastered with posters.
00:00:47Aleksandar Vučić hereby becomes the political protector of a thug
00:00:51Aleksandar
00:00:51Šapić.
00:00:55In today's news these news
00:00:57topics.
00:01:01Bravo
00:01:01children,
00:01:05the return of students to the building of Jovina Gymnasium, in
00:01:09the shadow of claims of wiretapping.
00:01:13Among other things, you recorded underage students who were
00:01:17present. We live in a police state, in
00:01:20a total dictatorship, in which free speech
00:01:24no longer lives
00:01:27Jovanović Zmaj lasted. "Students anywhere. The European Parliament mission
00:01:29is coming to monitor the elections in Serbia, even though their invitation
00:01:32arrived after the deadline
00:01:34expired, this is a message in
00:01:38itself, because if an invitation is sent
00:01:41in this way, it is not very
00:01:43good, the attacker of the N1
00:01:47team came to the trial in a T-shirt with Ratko Mladić's
00:01:51cap, I watched it throughout the
00:01:55trial and I truly felt it as a
00:01:58threat. Sreteno. stuck to his earlier statement in
00:02:02which he admitted guilt, but not as the prosecution
00:02:06defines it.
00:02:08And tomorrow it will be cold, sunny in the north, and rain
00:02:12is possible in the southeast.
00:02:13In the middle of the election campaign,
00:02:23the progressive mayor of Belgrade is suspected of two
00:02:26criminal offenses. Inflicting serious bodily harm
00:02:30and violent behavior, the prosecution charges him with this after
00:02:33an incident in which a city councilor's nose was broken,
00:02:37from the Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, N1
00:02:40confirmed that a case has been formed and that a pre-investigation
00:02:44procedure is underway against Aleksandar Šapić. In
00:02:47the current course of the procedure, the public prosecutor
00:02:49ordered the police to obtain and seize video recordings from
00:02:53all available security surveillance cameras that could
00:02:56have recorded the incident.
00:02:58the case of the Niš Faculty of Philosophy, on The Urgent Center was asked to provide
00:03:01medical documentation for all other participants in the event,
00:03:05while for the injured Tatjana Mićić the public prosecutor again requested
00:03:09the submission of complete medical documentation,
00:03:13the prosecution states for N1. Aleksandar Šapić was
00:03:16questioned as a suspect, the injured
00:03:19Tatjana Mićić was interrogated as a witness,
00:03:23the prosecution states and announces that it will take all other necessary actions
00:03:26to establish all... facts and circumstances relevant
00:03:30for making a public prosecutorial decision,
00:03:34in the meantime, a session of the city
00:03:38assembly has been scheduled for tomorrow at the request of the opposition
00:03:41which is seeking the dismissal of Aleksandar Šapić. On the eve
00:03:45of that session, Belgrade woke up plastered with posters with
00:03:48the inscription "United Thugs", on which
00:03:52the bearer of the electoral list United Serbia Aleksandar
00:03:55Vučić and the mayor of Belgrade Aleksandar Šapić are shown. Over
00:03:59Vučić's face, the inscription "protector" is highlighted,
00:04:02while over the face and name of Aleksandar Šapić stands the word
00:04:06"Thug". Šapić denied the accusations, claiming that
00:04:09he did not hit the opponent, but that he defended himself, and Aleksandar
00:04:13Vučić assessed that Šapić, as a public official, had to step aside and
00:04:17bear responsibility. The "Move, Change" movement, whose
00:04:20councilwoman was injured, insists on
00:04:23accountability, and the Center for Local Self-Government has information
00:04:26that Šapić's dismissal will not be decided tomorrow because the ruling
00:04:30majority will not provide a quorum.
00:04:33Aleksandar Šapić cannot be
00:04:37the mayor of this city and we demand that things be cleared up.
00:04:41Aleksandar Vučić hereby becomes the political
00:04:44protector of a thug Aleksandar Šapić, but we want to
00:04:48send a clear message to the people who vote for
00:04:51SPS. If SPS does not vote for this initiative
00:04:55of the opposition, they show that there is no
00:04:59difference between them and SNS
00:05:02in the campaign. The list United Serbia
00:05:05saw another person
00:05:08the international investigation of electoral irregularities, on Instagram. Milan Radojčić, in the company of
00:05:11former president Aleksandar Vučić, appeared at an election
00:05:14rally in Kragujevac, even though he is still under investigation in the case
00:05:18of the armed attack in Banjska, the Higher Public
00:05:21Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade confirmed to Radio Free Europe that the investigation against
00:05:24Radojčić is still ongoing. Radojčić had previously admitted that
00:05:28he was at the head of an armed group of Serbs that carried out the attack in
00:05:32Banjska when a Kosovo policeman was killed, and then in
00:05:35an exchange of fire, three Serbs. Radojčić
00:05:38was previously ordered to report to the police twice a month,
00:05:42the Higher Public Court in Belgrade did not
00:05:46respond to Radio Free Europe's inquiry as to whether this
00:05:49measure is still in force.
00:05:52And in the continuation of the news,
00:06:01this story.
00:06:03Professors of the Niš Faculty of Philosophy
00:06:0784 days without pay.
00:06:09Faculties of Philosophy are targets,
00:06:14centers of resistance, the burden of revenge
00:06:18has been placed on them. And before that, about the return
00:06:21of students of Jovina Gymnasium
00:06:25to the school building, but also about accusations of
00:06:29wiretapping. After more than a year
00:06:33that the works on
00:06:36the dome of the Novi Sad Gymnasium Jovan
00:06:39returned to the building of that school, however, this solemn
00:06:43moment remained in the shadow of a new scandal, students
00:06:47who are in the plenum of Jovina Gymnasium claim that they were wiretapped and that
00:06:50transcripts of their conversations were published yesterday
00:06:54in pro-government media, parents of students
00:06:57announce that they will seek criminal responsibility for all who
00:07:00participated in that,
00:07:04for the fellowship..."
00:07:05of our ancestors,
00:07:10gymnasium, old
00:07:14new, hear
00:07:16the grateful
00:07:19children's voice. Whoever read yesterday the online edition
00:07:23of the Novi Sad newspaper Dnevnik, knew
00:07:27what the return of students to Jovina Gymnasium would look like after more
00:07:30than a year. The local newspaper, namely, published that after
00:07:34singing the school anthem a ceremonial ribbon cutting
00:07:38would follow. And here it is, bravo
00:07:41children, the daily newspaper, Dnevnik
00:07:44knew
00:07:48that before the students entered the school, a panel would be put up with
00:07:52the names of dismissed and suspended professors of that
00:07:55gymnasium, for which they hold the director Radivoj P
00:07:58Stojković responsible, and there are 52 of them, and these are
00:08:01their names, the Novi Sad Dnevnik learned that a statement
00:08:05would be read at the gathering, it just didn't know that the
00:08:09statement would say this: we were
00:08:12wiretapped, sentences written in the texts
00:08:16of the so-called media were quoted, identically
00:08:19written as the students spoke them, which indicates
00:08:22only one thing: you recorded,
00:08:26among other things, you also recorded underage students who were
00:08:29present, and they were present in the premises of the Local Community in
00:08:32Liman 3 where the graduates of Jovina held a plenum at which
00:08:36they discussed the details of today's return to school, but...
00:08:40The journalist who writes the text makes a cardinal mistake, so in
00:08:44the text whose title is "Blockading students
00:08:47of Jovina Gymnasium announce a performance on the occasion of their return to
00:08:50school desks", in the first paragraph the careless author
00:08:54adds that with the performance the students want to present their return to the gymnasium
00:08:57as their victory, even though
00:09:00they are, he states, aware that the re-commissioning of the building
00:09:04is a move by the current authorities in the context of their pre-election
00:09:08campaign. They
00:09:11decided uh, they shouldn't have published it,
00:09:14but here we are, I mean, we caught
00:09:17it, we noticed it, we screenshot
00:09:21it, we have it as evidence, based on which
00:09:24we, as parents, will probably react,
00:09:28because based on that sentence, we realized that someone
00:09:30was eavesdropping on our children, even minors, there were
00:09:34many minor children among them. Their
00:09:38suspicion is further confirmed by the express deletion of the original news from
00:09:41the portal... of the daily newspaper and the publication of a new one, in which there
00:09:45was no longer the sentence that Jovina Gymnasium was opening as part of the pre-election
00:09:48campaign of the current government, and the students were no longer
00:09:52blockaders. We live in a police state, in
00:09:56a total dictatorship in which free
00:09:59speech no longer lives anywhere, neither privately nor publicly,
00:10:03because if they can wiretap minors and
00:10:06provide pro-government media, then
00:10:09they can wiretap each of us in our homes and absolutely. absolutely
00:10:13they will answer one day for dealing with such things and for violating
00:10:17basic human rights, that is why the persecuted professors and
00:10:21parents of students of Jovina Gymnasium have no,
00:10:24they say, the slightest doubt that the children
00:10:27were misused for political
00:10:30the dome, because of which the students were expelled from school, could have been
00:10:34finished earlier, but, they say, the pre-election campaign
00:10:37was chosen as the timing. I had the honor to address
00:10:41the first-grade students of this gymnasium,
00:10:44just now, and I saw on their faces how radiant they were to be
00:10:48back in their own place, in their own facility, we enabled that for them
00:10:52through joint work with the director, the provincial government, and
00:10:55I repeat, this building is now absolutely safe and secure
00:10:58and students can, to my great satisfaction,
00:11:02return to school from Monday. It is clear that
00:11:05Jovina Gymnasium got a building, but
00:11:09not yet its soul, we are sure that in
00:11:12the light of today's victory, other things will happen
00:11:15and that our colleagues will return to school and finally
00:11:19create a symbiosis with their students and give the gymnasium the life it
00:11:23had and deserved. Maja
00:11:25Nikolić 11, Belgrade.
00:11:28Professors of the Faculty of Philosophy in
00:11:31Niš believe that they have done nothing to deserve what is happening
00:11:34to them. Namely, for a full 84 days they
00:11:37have not received a salary, even though they regularly
00:11:40hold lectures. They came to Belgrade to warn
00:11:44the authorities that what is being done to them
00:11:47is illegal.
00:11:48From Niš to Belgrade, more precisely to
00:11:51Nemanjina 22, and below the Ministry of Education building,
00:11:55employees of the Niš Faculty of Philosophy arrived, they held a gathering
00:11:58because they claim it has been 84 days since they received
00:12:02their salaries. Just as long, but also despite that, they add,
00:12:06teaching and activities at the faculty have been going on continuously without
00:12:09interruption. We come to work, we work with students, we teach
00:12:13classes, exams, we deal with all those activities that we usually
00:12:16do. So, we work normally. If
00:12:20"normal" even exists as a category
00:12:24with which we can describe what has been happening to us for some time, and what has been happening
00:12:27since the moment the government launched an initiative to establish the Faculty
00:12:31of Serbian Studies, by separating three departments from the Niš
00:12:34Faculty of Philosophy, they emphasize is illegal, because
00:12:37they claim the Ministry of Education has not yet published an official decision
00:12:41that suspended funds for this faculty. In addition to
00:12:45teaching and non-teaching activities, we
00:12:48have been forced for these 11
00:12:51months to also do independent and
00:12:55research work that connected us with
00:12:58students and non-teaching staff, because we are
00:13:02forced to deal with the law, to
00:13:05study laws. A copy of the one on higher
00:13:08education was handed over by the delegation of employees today to the Ministry of
00:13:12Education, after a protest march and the Government of Serbia. All
00:13:15in order to, they emphasize, remind the authorities of the obligation to respect and
00:13:19implement this law, especially in
00:13:23which, as they state... the full force of the state
00:13:27apparatus has come down, faculties of philosophy are
00:13:29targets, centers of resistance, the focus of revenge
00:13:33has been placed on them, the time for such a ministry
00:13:37is running out, there is no free Serbia without
00:13:41free Niš, without a free university and without
00:13:44a free philosophy department. That is why
00:13:47today in Belgrade they once again say, we will not give up
00:13:50philosophy, with the demand that all employees be finally paid
00:13:54after more than two months. Nada
00:13:57Živanović, N1
00:13:58Belgrade.
00:14:06In the continuation of the election topics. The European Parliament delegation
00:14:10will monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia,
00:14:13although it received the invitation after the deadline. That
00:14:17is a message in itself for MEPs.
00:14:21Not at five to two, but rather
00:14:23at five past twelve, Serbia sent an invitation to the European
00:14:27Parliament to send an observer mission for the upcoming snap
00:14:31parliamentary elections. The deadline for that expired on the eighth, the invitation from
00:14:34the acting president's cabinet arrived on October 10th,
00:14:38after the MEPs said they were ready to wait for it until
00:14:42the 12th. Is this just an academic delay?
00:14:45This is a message in itself, because if
00:14:49an invitation is sent in this way,
00:14:52it is not very good. But all in
00:14:55all, the invitation came and the mission will come,
00:14:59the observation mission of the European Parliament to Serbia.
00:15:03The observation mission of the European Parliament came to Serbia for the last time in
00:15:06December 2023. To
00:15:09monitor the then also snap parliamentary elections.
00:15:12After those elections, there was a
00:15:15continuous and longer interest
00:15:19of the European Parliament in everything that is happening in Serbia.
00:15:23After that observation mission, there were resolutions on Serbia
00:15:27that referred to the state of electoral
00:15:29conditions. Nevertheless,
00:15:33which the European Parliament called for in its resolution of February 8,
00:15:352024,
00:15:37and on which the opposition placed great hopes, was
00:15:41never carried out. The question then arises, what are the real
00:15:45limits of the observation mission from Strasbourg? The Council of Europe and
00:15:48the European Parliament with their observation missions,
00:15:52which are primarily
00:15:56uh these, I would say
00:15:59uh political
00:16:01missions, they serve, in a way, to
00:16:05additionally, first and foremost,
00:16:07strengthen and raise the visibility of those
00:16:11expert audit findings in relation to the audit
00:16:15whose report itself gives additional legitimacy. The mission
00:16:18of the European Parliament, according to N1's interlocutor, has
00:16:22certain advantages, which was evident during the 2023
00:16:25elections. The resolution was in January or so or
00:16:29early February 24, which is relatively fast compared, for example, to
00:16:33the final ODIHR report which came much later.
00:16:36Therefore, they have some kind of speed, that's the problem of the Serbian authorities,
00:16:40so they can react quickly, I say, and they can
00:16:44in their first address perhaps have
00:16:47sharper assessments than ODIHR itself. Vladimir
00:16:51Prebilić, an MEP from the Green group, has already stated to N1 that nothing
00:16:54of what the European Parliament, and also Commissioner Marta
00:16:57Kos, asked for, namely functional and regulated voter lists, has
00:17:01been fulfilled. We are not happy about that, but what
00:17:03is... "Yes, yes, I can only
00:17:07say that we will closely and thoroughly monitor
00:17:10everything that is happening now in Serbia and when
00:17:14a report comes, meaning a report that
00:17:17will lay everything on the table, then all of that
00:17:21will be reflected there," he emphasizes that Brussels is already monitoring the course
00:17:24of the pre-election campaign, which MEPs will monitor, the elections
00:17:28in Serbia are not yet known, however, it is certain that there will be
00:17:32seven of them. Tamara Stojanović, N1, Belgrade.
00:17:35Exactly at noon, the printing
00:17:39of 6 million 450,523
00:17:42ballots for the upcoming
00:17:45snap parliamentary elections began. That number
00:17:49caused particular public attention because many
00:17:52wondered how many of us there are in total when
00:17:55there are so many registered voters?
00:17:58The elections have entered
00:18:02the Gutenberg phase. Under the watchful eye of the RIK,
00:18:06the first ballot was printed, a purple one,
00:18:09the right choice for this October 25th, because they say that
00:18:13purple has a calming effect, lowers
00:18:16blood pressure and heart rate. 6 million
00:18:20450,523 ballots will be printed,
00:18:23because
00:18:25that is how many voters there are, and that number almost coincides with
00:18:29the total number of inhabitants, which raises suspicion of so-called
00:18:32phantom voters, because it turns out that there are almost
00:18:36no minors in Serbia. We are guided exclusively
00:18:39by the decision of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government on
00:18:43the conclusion of the voter list, so that is the number of voters that was
00:18:46delivered to us by the decision of the Ministry, we have determined it
00:18:49to be that number of ballots that are being printed. The opposition,
00:18:53non-governmental organizations, international observers point to numerous
00:18:56irregularities concerning the voter list. Among other things,
00:19:00in several tens of municipalities in Serbia, the number of voters even
00:19:04exceeds the number of inhabitants. However, the fact is that the voter
00:19:07list includes citizens who live outside the country,
00:19:11while the census exclusively registers only people who live in Serbia.
00:19:15So, which number of voters best corresponds to the current situation
00:19:18on the ground? We estimate that the total number of
00:19:22adult residents living in Serbia who can actually
00:19:25go to the polls is around 5.1
00:19:29million. It is possible that we are slightly wrong, it is possible that it is 5.2, it is possible that it is slightly
00:19:32less, but that is approximately the number. And voters from
00:19:36the diaspora are making a historical leap, there are almost three
00:19:39times more of them compared to the previous elections, 102 were registered,
00:19:43some estimates say even 111,000.
00:19:47This reflects the mobilization that is happening in Serbia,
00:19:51the student movement and students have established
00:19:54good connections in the past year and a half with our diaspora
00:19:57and where that desire of citizens
00:20:01who left Serbia to participate in the elections has
00:20:05increased.
00:20:08Students claim that there would be even more voters from abroad
00:20:11if there wasn't, as they say, obstruction and
00:20:13filtering by the relevant ministries and
00:20:17the RIK. That's why they filed complaints that were rejected. All
00:20:20of this is in the process of being resolved before the Republican
00:20:23Electoral Commission. This can be monitored by the public, of course. I would
00:20:27not want to comment now on
00:20:29the eventual
00:20:31consequences of adopting or not adopting such proposals,
00:20:35given that it concerns, therefore, the right to vote, which is guaranteed
00:20:38by law. The student list announced that due to the poor organization of voting
00:20:42abroad, it will file a complaint with the administrative court. Nenad
00:20:46Nešić, N1, Belgrade.
00:20:52The last opportunity for the European Serbia list
00:20:55to act politically responsibly and honorably and to
00:20:59withdraw from the electoral process in favor of the student
00:21:02list has been missed, stated the deputy president of the Freedom and Justice Party Borko
00:21:06Stefanović on the X network. In the post,
00:21:09he states that the consequences for the Freedom and Justice Party will be
00:21:12serious because it is gambling with its reputation. Insisting
00:21:16on participating in the elections as a separate opposition list
00:21:20in these circumstances and after the failure
00:21:22to unite the entire opposition, is a serious mistake
00:21:26and a misunderstanding of the social atmosphere and the political will of the citizens
00:21:29of Serbia, states Stefanović, adding that
00:21:32the only interest is the overthrow of Vučić's regime and calls on
00:21:36everyone to go to the polls in as large a number as possible and support
00:21:40the student list with their vote,
00:21:43and the students will also be supported by a member of the main board and the presidency of the SPS, Boris
00:21:47Milićević, who announced that he is leaving that party.
00:21:51He told the leader of the SPS, Ivica Dačić, that the decision to
00:21:54leave the party was not easy, but that there are many reasons
00:21:58for it, because everyone who advocates for freedom, equality,
00:22:01the rule of law and socialist principles in the upcoming
00:22:04elections should vote for the student
00:22:07list. Previously, the former vice president
00:22:11of the provincial board of the SPS in Vojvodina, Ivan Đoković,
00:22:14also submitted a request to leave the party and decided to
00:22:18join Branko Ružić as
00:22:20one of the initiators of his new political
00:22:23project.
00:22:25And now we go live to New Belgrade at the roundabout
00:22:29near the municipality, and tonight, supporters of the student
00:22:32list, as well as the Serbian Progressive Party,
00:22:35have gathered there. Our
00:22:38Tamara Ognjanović is there. Tamara, here are two groups of citizens
00:22:42separated by the police, so what is
00:22:43the atmosphere like.
00:22:48That's right, Maja, as in previous days, tonight two groups
00:22:52of citizens, supporters of the student list and supporters of the United
00:22:55Serbia list, gathered here at the roundabout in New
00:22:59Belgrade near the municipality of New Belgrade, I will move immediately so
00:23:03you can see the picture, so I say, as in previous days,
00:23:06although the situation today is a little
00:23:10different, usually these gatherings at certain
00:23:13Belgrade intersections took place
00:23:16between 8 and 9 pm, for today the board
00:23:21of New Belgrade and surrounding neighborhoods,
00:23:24let's say, called citizens to come here at 6 pm.
00:23:27Supporters of the student list announced
00:23:31the printing of T-shirts and bags with the inscription
00:23:33"Students Win" and because of that, a larger number
00:23:37of citizens gathered here as early as 6 pm,
00:23:40however, at the same time, that is, two
00:23:44hours earlier than usual, groups of supporters of the Serbian Progressive Party
00:23:48also appeared, who also spread out
00:23:52on the sidewalks on certain lanes
00:23:55along this roundabout and we found a
00:23:59situation that was somewhat different from the one
00:24:02yesterday or the day before yesterday. I asked
00:24:05uh the gathered citizens here,
00:24:08do they know whose place it is, given that
00:24:12in previous days, in these places where you now see "Serbia wins" banners,
00:24:16there were "students win" banners and...
00:24:20"They told me that whoever arrives first, that space
00:24:23is theirs, so today, as they say,
00:24:27they assume that the supporters of the Serbian Progressive
00:24:30Party arrived immediately after work, given that when
00:24:33the citizens came here at the
00:24:36call of the assemblies, those spaces were already
00:24:40occupied, there is a lot of noise here at the
00:24:43intersection, traffic is quite chaotic,
00:24:46I must admit that too, so..." That is the
00:24:50situation today, since 6 pm,
00:24:53two groups of citizens gathered here who
00:24:57support their lists, on several
00:25:00of these islands there are supporters of the student list with their
00:25:04banners, on one of these islands there is also
00:25:08a figure with the image of American President Donald Trump,
00:25:11a cardboard figure, there are also police officers,
00:25:15I would not say that they are separating two groups, since they are
00:25:18not meeting anywhere, but police officers are standing
00:25:21at certain points and
00:25:25uh, let's say, securing
00:25:28order, although it does not seem that traffic is
00:25:32being secured, you can see that it is very crowded, we also noticed
00:25:36that these vehicles honk when they pass
00:25:39by the supporters of the student list and by the people with
00:25:43"students win" banners, we also crossed to the other side, it's a bit
00:25:47quieter there, so I will remind you that...
00:25:50"for some time now, for several days, there has been a trend
00:25:54that at certain intersections, the largest
00:25:57gatherings are at Konjarnik and here in New
00:26:00Belgrade, so at certain intersections."
00:26:02are gathering, uh, those who support the student
00:26:06list, at the same time supporters of the Serbian
00:26:10Progressive Party are coming out, there are often
00:26:12incidents, for now it is calm at this intersection in Novi
00:26:16Beograd.
00:26:17Thank you, Tamara, you saw what it's like
00:26:20at the municipality of Novi Beograd, you heard our Tamara
00:26:23Ognjanović.
00:26:24The law does not prevent
00:26:28the acting president of the republic, Ana
00:26:31Brnabić, from publishing the names
00:26:34of pardoned persons, that was stated by the informal association for the defense
00:26:38of the profession, reacting to her statement that at a party
00:26:41conference she cannot talk about state issues due to the law
00:26:45on preventing corruption. The association states that the public has
00:26:48the right to know to whom, for which criminal offenses and by what
00:26:52procedure a pardon was granted. Article
00:26:5514 of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public
00:26:58Importance explicitly provides for the possibility of access
00:27:02to information that relates to events of public
00:27:05interest, even when they contain personal
00:27:08data, states the defense of the profession, inviting Ana
00:27:11Brnabić to state the specific legal provision
00:27:15that prevents her from publishing that information.
00:27:18Let us remind you, Aleksandar Vučić, before resigning from the position of President of Serbia,
00:27:22announced that he had pardoned 49 people, but
00:27:25their names are still not known
00:27:28to the public.
00:27:37The trial of Vladan Sretenović for the attack on
00:27:40the N1 television crew in front of the Serbian Parliament in November last
00:27:44year continued. Given that the judge was changed,
00:27:47the statements were read from the beginning. Sretenović
00:27:51did not answer questions, but stuck to the statement he gave to the prosecutor
00:27:55in February of this year. He admitted guilt, but not
00:27:58in the way the prosecution defines it. Sretenović
00:28:02entered the court in a T-shirt with a picture of Ratko
00:28:05Mladić's cap.
00:28:09Did the judge react because of how he was dressed? No,
00:28:13it's shocking to me that there was no reaction, even though it was completely
00:28:16evident that it was a demonstration. On the front
00:28:19of that T-shirt, next to uh, uh, Šapka, uh,
00:28:23Radko Mladić, a convicted war criminal, we must always
00:28:26emphasize, there was a message: from your struggle, our
00:28:30freedom was born. And on... uh, the back of that
00:28:33T-shirt, next to the
00:28:36image of Ratko Mladić, there was also the image of Patriarch Pavle and
00:28:40allegedly his quote that a man is
00:28:43stronger dead than an inhuman
00:28:46alive, I watched that the whole time
00:28:49of the trial and I really felt it as a threat addressed
00:28:52to everyone who in this
00:28:55case represents independent journalism, professional journalism,
00:28:58reporting, because the prosecutor uh... uh defined this
00:29:02attack not only as the destruction of equipment, cameras, but as
00:29:05an attack on free journalism, free reporting.
00:29:09The president of the European Federation of Journalists,
00:29:12Maja Sever, compared the events on the Nova.RS portal to
00:29:16the situation in Hungary when people close
00:29:19to Viktor Orban took over the media, after which
00:29:22dozens of journalists left the newsroom.
00:29:25She assessed that the journalists of Nova who opposed
00:29:29the imposition of a new editorial board showed courage and
00:29:32professionalism. Journalist and
00:29:36presenter of Nova Television Radovan Seratlić spoke
00:29:40about the events in the newsroom. He warned about the consequences

00:29:53RS uh reacted again in accordance with
00:29:56their limits, right, and said what they
00:29:59had to say. After that we had some reactions that if someone
00:30:03doesn't like it, you know, they don't have to work, yes, that's true and
00:30:06that's the essence of everything and then I ask myself why simply someone who has
00:30:10power doesn't say now 30 of you no longer work
00:30:14here, we're bringing our 30, that's dangerous and risky
00:30:17because no one would watch something like that,
00:30:21there's one thing called trust, so you can
00:30:24replace

00:30:34that person has never, or very rarely, betrayed their
00:30:38trust, so those things are a little difficult to change, I think that's the answer to
00:30:41the question of why some things go faster, but still that
00:30:44unpacking takes a little longer, here,
00:30:48by the end of the news watch,
