00:00:04of
00:00:17UAE on the anniversary
00:00:18of the European Union winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Today leaders
00:00:22from that grouping
00:00:23of which is armed genocide in Gaza meet at something called the
00:00:26Warsaw Security Forum. Speakers will avoudly call. for the
00:00:30destruction
00:00:31of the Russian Federation, not just Ukrainian dictator Zelensky who
00:00:34has been given long-range missiles by Britain and Intel from the
00:00:38CIA to kill civilians in Russia. It's also four
00:00:42of years today that 143 out of 193
00:00:45general assembly member states voted to condemn Russia for referendums in
00:00:49the
00:00:49of Donbas, Carson and Zaparia. Democracy in the economies of western European
00:00:53states that did so are now in chaos as uprisings
00:01:00recently at the latest UN general assembly in New York, he has
00:01:03tirelessly fought for the war in Europe to
00:01:06of
00:01:07of end, before the 24th February 2022, he
00:01:10advised US officials to publicly admit Ukraine would not be permitted NATO
00:01:14membership. Professor Jeffrey Sax is the director of Columbia University's
00:01:18center for sustainable development,
00:01:21of of president of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and former advisor to UN Secretary's general, general
00:01:24Kofian and Antonio Gutierez, he's in Rome in
00:01:28Italy, professor.
00:01:34going to ask you why you're in Rome immediately, but uh, four years
00:01:37then since the UN general assembly
00:01:39of resolution against Russia, I mean, apart
00:01:43from threats of mass killing from Trump and Netan Yahoo, at the UN General
00:01:47of Assembly, which we might talk about, uh, what did you detect
00:01:50uh, 12 years on since the coup in Ukraine, at
00:01:54the UN General Assembly in New York, well these wars
00:01:57continue to rage because it's nobody wants to
00:02:01speak the truth uh and nobody wants to acknowledge
00:02:05uh ground
00:02:06a realities. the war in Ukraine is a war that came as
00:02:10as you mentioned with a
00:02:12of coup that overthrew a Ukrainian president so that
00:02:16NATO could enlarge all the way to Russia's
00:02:18border uh when uh the United
00:02:22States pushed the Europeans to agree to
00:02:26commit to Ukraine's membership in NATO uh
00:02:30then German chancellor Merkel wrote in her diary
00:02:34that this was, as she knew,
00:02:36in tanto amount to a declaration of war, that's the way that the Russians would see
00:02:40it, and she was right, she wasn't
00:02:43of strong enough to resist, George W. Bush, she
00:02:47should have, we
00:02:49have been
00:02:49a slide to war ever since 2008
00:02:53when US push for this NATO enlargement,
00:02:562014 started the war with the US backed
00:03:00coup on February 22nd,
00:03:042014, and
00:03:07Europeans have gone with gusto,
00:03:11me denying truth, denying logic, denying
00:03:13me the off-ramps to peace, and till today they are the
00:03:17warmongers, right now, they're championing the war,
00:03:20of they're talking about escalation, they're talking about remilitarizing
00:03:24Germany, God
00:03:26of forbid, but this is the way things go, the only
00:03:30glimmer, the only glimmer of
00:03:34light at the UN general assembly was that the German
00:03:38foreign minister at least sat down for 20 minutes
00:03:42with his Russian
00:03:43of counterpart. It doesn't seem like much, but it was the first time
00:03:47in years that that has happened. I've been pressing
00:03:51and writing open letters to Chancellor Merts and
00:03:55publishing pretty much non-stop in the German
00:03:58media. hawk, because
00:04:01remember, German reunification in 1990
00:04:05came because you, the German leaders, promise that
00:04:08NATO wouldn't move one inch eastworth.
00:04:12Go talk, go learn what the Russian of point of view
00:04:16is, and when you understand the Russian point of view,
00:04:20this war could stop
00:04:21in a day on sensible terms that are sensible for
00:04:25Russia, for Ukraine and for Europe, and
00:04:33so did you get to manage to see him in New York and ask him
00:04:37why, as many have around the world, why the UN has not taken a
00:04:41of more
00:04:43of muscular role and conven some kind of conference
00:04:45in a neutral space, of course, I mean we're hoping there'll be a conference here in the
00:04:48UAE
00:04:50of soon, well I sure hope so, you know, all
00:04:53of these wars that are raging right
00:04:56of now
00:04:57of actually
00:04:57of have uh, if I may put it... this way straight
00:05:01forward exit ramps, the war in Ukraine
00:05:05would end
00:05:06of by Ukraine returning to neutrality, which is what it was before
00:05:10the US backed cool. by NATO saying, okay, okay,
00:05:14we won't enlarge to Russia's border, uh, and
00:05:18having an armistice line were both sides say, you know,
00:05:22we have disagreements on borders, but we're not going to pursue
00:05:26them through military means, the war
00:05:29in Gaza, the genocide in
00:05:32Gaza, will end one of two ways
00:05:35a state of Palestine alongside a state of
00:05:39Israel, or one binational state. in
00:05:43which both the Palestinian Arabs and the
00:05:46Israeli Jews live in one state, either
00:05:49way, we need that, because the current way
00:05:53of a ruthlessly murderous Israeli state
00:05:57backed by Europe in the United States is unforgivable,
00:06:01absolutely unforgivable, and the war in Iran
00:06:05is the dumbest of all possible
00:06:08wars. President Trump uh brags
00:06:12that six previous presidents resisted it, but he
00:06:15did it. I don't think that's a matter of bragging, I think it's a matter
00:06:19the most shocking incompetence that we probably ever
00:06:23had in that office, but the war in
00:06:27with Iran, which was a war of
00:06:30aggression and murder the Iranian leadership on
00:06:34February 28 uh of this year,
00:06:38will end simply when the United States
00:06:41leaves. "we don't even need an agreement, because if the US
00:06:45leaves, Iranians are going to open the straight off moves wide
00:06:49open to sell oil and the rest the gulf
00:06:53region where you are and all the rest will go back
00:06:56to normal life. it's the US that provoked this
00:07:00with Israel, it's the US that kept it going, there
00:07:04is no reason for this war to continue another hour, the United States
00:07:07should turn around and go home as far as I'm concerned, nobody has to agree
00:07:11anything if..." you've done something unbelievably stupid, stop
00:07:15doing it. yeah, but did you get to speak to Antonio Gateres who
00:07:19you used to advise? why is he not organizing anything? didn't,
00:07:23didn't, i didn't speak to him this time because he was
00:07:26sitting on the podium, i was there cringing with every
00:07:30word of my president donald trump who said
00:07:34he had a hard choice to make, whether to make Iran
00:07:38a great country, i don't think he realizes
00:07:42Iran. was a great country 2,500 years ago,
00:07:4510 times older than the United States, thank you, but any
00:07:49event, whether to do that or whether to annihilate Iran and send
00:07:53everybody to help, and this is a president the United States
00:07:57speaking this way, so yes, the
00:08:00UN has huge role,
00:08:04fundamental role, but the United States really blocks the
00:08:07role, yes, so the un, the UN has no role, arguably, I mean
00:08:11back to Ukraine. "I understand Jake Sullivan told you before Russia
00:08:15went in in 2022 that there'd be no NATO
00:08:26like why has the UN secretariat done absolutely
00:08:29nothing to stop a war in Europe. The UN was only created
00:08:32because the end of another war in Europe. I
00:08:36believe the UN should do lot more and can do
00:08:40lot more, but the reason that..."
00:08:42it is paralyzed as it is is essentially the united
00:08:46states says we don't obey any
00:08:50rules and do you even trump said by the
00:08:54way people will remember when he was asked are you
00:08:57bound by international law he said i'm not bound
00:09:01by anything but my own morality he said by my
00:09:05will that's the only thing that binds me this
00:09:09is kind of madness frankly this is an old man who
00:09:13doesn't have uh all the marbles together as
00:09:17far as although it should be said Trump has done a lot more for peace arguably
00:09:21than anything the UN has done as regards the war in Europe, at least
00:09:25Trump
00:09:25has set up meetings, at least Trump set up meetings in anchourage
00:09:29and tried rhetorically, rhetorically while at
00:09:33the same time supplying the weapons. I won't go that far
00:09:36because he said in anchored
00:09:39privately, well NATO won't.
00:09:42large, but he didn't say it publicly because he's
00:09:45incompetent, and then when he was opposed by the military
00:09:49industrial complex in the United States and in Europe
00:09:53and by Zelensky, rather than being president the United States, he just
00:09:57back down, and that's why the Russians are saying, okay, what
00:10:01is all
00:10:01of this, you told us things, you don't follow through, this
00:10:05is unfortunately the way it goes, unless you have a competent
00:10:09president, so I don't unfortunately give
00:10:12give many points for having a meeting and failing to
00:10:16follow through, and I give even fewer points
00:10:20for a complete, total failure to
00:10:23communicate based. truth, what is needed to end this
00:10:27war is for a president the united states and a chancelor of germany to
00:10:31say, nato won't enlarge, that's the one
00:10:35sentence that's going to end this war, they won't
00:10:42made a mistake when he went to anchorage to meet
00:10:45Donald Trump, you think the Russians don't fully understand
00:10:49Trump?
00:10:50I don't, no, I don't, I don't think you
00:10:53make a mistake by Trump. but i think that
00:10:57they are not shocked that it didn't work
00:11:00famously said an interview that he
00:11:03gave in 2017 that he had by that
00:11:07time worked with three american presidents you they
00:11:10and come
00:11:11said into he office with ideas but then men in dark suits
00:11:15and blue ties come to tell them
00:11:17the way the world really is and then you never hear of those ideas
00:11:21again is very experienced with american.
00:11:25presidents, he knows that they do not follow through,
00:11:29and I don't think they're shocked by Trump's failure to follow
00:11:32through, I think they're disappointed, I think they hope, and I think it's
00:11:36always worth trying to have
00:11:39diplomacy, so I don't think that that's
00:11:43a matter of regret, to take that extra mile is
00:11:46extremely important, in fact what I
00:11:49completely think is the huge mistake of Europe
00:11:53is they don't even try to. diplomacy, they don't even know what it is, you
00:11:57you've been talking to the officials, mean you've been writing letters, but you also have
00:12:01been talking to EU officials as far as
00:12:03I understand, what is your, I mean, you're unable to
00:12:06persuade them, but what is your impression of why they don't even
00:12:10seem to be that fearful the prospect of nuclear
00:12:13war? well, first of all, we have pundits
00:12:17and we have officials that say, oh, that's a
00:12:20bluff,
00:12:21you know, this threat of nuclear weapons, these people,
00:12:25are so unbelievably reckless
00:12:29with your life and my life and my children's lives and my grandchildren's
00:12:33lives, I can't even tell you how disgusted I am by
00:12:36this uh blaze attitude. We
00:12:40are
00:12:41we are at dire risk of blowing ourselves
00:12:45up and to deny it and then just talk
00:12:49provocatively and Russia hate talk
00:12:53and oh yes Maybe we can take Kin and
00:12:57on
00:12:57and on. This kind of recklessness is
00:13:00shocking. Don't these people understand
00:13:03anything? Apparently not. This is,
00:13:07but by the way, when I spoke with -
00:13:10one very nice European official, and I
00:13:14said, just say NATO is not going to enlarge. He
00:13:18said, oh, well, the United
00:13:21States has has said that.
00:13:25to president Putin, I said, yeah, it may be
00:13:29true, they said it privately, they didn't follow
00:13:32through, and your government has never said it, so why don't you
00:13:36say it publicly, and he looked at a little
00:13:39quizically, like that was new thought,
00:13:43oh, that's interesting, yeah, let me think about
00:13:46that, do they not understand
00:13:50what's going
00:13:55that this is continued in this way for
00:13:58years, but I think that there is a tremendous
00:14:02amount of incompetence and
00:14:05awardices and unwillingness these
00:14:09politicians to admit basic
00:14:12truths and that that keeps this going, it's just
00:14:44The deep state has its hands in everything. I was in the
00:14:48middle of it for decades. When I blew the whistle on CIA
00:14:52torture, the deep state turned on me. they ruined my
00:14:56life, took away my rights, threw me in
00:14:59prison, but they didn't break
00:15:01me. fought back
00:15:05and i still do. i'm John Kiriaku, on my
00:15:09show, the deep state, take you behind the geopolitical moves, the
00:15:13color revolutions, behind the politics and the
00:15:15politicians. we shine a light on where the deep state is
00:15:19hiding.
00:15:30"welcome back to going
00:15:38uh how a unnamed EU official seems surprised that
00:15:42uh the uh declaration of uh no expansion of
00:15:45NATO might be helpful in the situation. I don't suppose you could tell me
00:15:49who the EU
00:15:57but but just to just to say
00:16:00you oh it's so odd because
00:16:04this is actually someone I've known for a long time ' i this was
00:16:08foreign minister, i know his leader also very well, i think
00:16:12actually they probably want peace, but they cannot bring
00:16:15themselves to say basic truths, and
00:16:19this comes back to the conversation you mentioned -
00:16:23before the break that
00:16:31had. now Jake Sullivan was the national security advisor
00:16:34under Biden and Putin
00:16:38put security agreement on the table to
00:16:42try to avert this escalation, he did that in
00:16:45December uh 2021, and
00:16:49it didn't have everything the US would ever accept, but it had
00:16:53lot of good stuff, including stop the NATO enlargement, so
00:16:57I called Sullivan and and I had a long
00:17:01conversation with him, and the gist of it was, uh, I said,
00:17:04Jake, just just announce NATO's. not going
00:17:08to enlarge and uh and avoid a war and he said
00:17:12jeff, NATO is not going to enlarge, I said
00:17:15Jake, are you kidding, you're going
00:17:19to have a war? oh, he said first, we we can't announce that NATO is
00:17:23not going to win large, we have an open-door policy,
00:17:27so Jake, NATO's open door policy is the biggest
00:17:31bunch of bs imaginable, does the US have an open-door
00:17:35policy for Mexico that it can have a... Chinese military base
00:17:39or Canada can have a Russian military base there is that America's open-door
00:17:43policy? How about a little bit of principle here? There is no
00:17:46principle of open door. You don't put your
00:17:50military on Russia's border just like you don't want Russia to put
00:17:54their military on the US border. And we almost flew up the
00:17:58world when Russia, the Soviet Union did that in
00:18:02October 1962. So just say,
00:18:06Jake, that NATO's. not going to enlarge, he said,
00:18:10jeff, NATO is not going to enlarge, I said, say it
00:18:13publicly,
00:18:19okay, we're going to have a war because of something that's not going
00:18:23to happen, he said, don't worry, don't worry, there's not going to be
00:18:27a war, this is the same national, what do you make of that, this
00:18:30is the same national security advisor who wrote to Clinton that
00:18:34the USA was on the same side as al-qaed. in
00:18:38Syria, do you think he was just lying to you or he
00:18:42was that incompetent that he didn't realize what the policy
00:18:46was? no, i think that
00:18:49um, i think the level of
00:18:52incompetence in our governments is
00:18:55staggering, actually, just staggering,
00:18:59and they believe that they can say anything without
00:19:03consequence, so they can twist
00:19:06things. "they can create their own realities. It's
00:19:10a staggering incompetence is my my view of
00:19:13this. I don't think it was just lying to me, because he was saying
00:19:17things that weren't exactly lies, they were just
00:19:20foolish, foolishness sounds like l would
00:19:24sound like a lie to many people. I mean, I've got to say that Sikorsky, the
00:19:27Polish foreign minister will be at the Warsaw Security conference today, famously
00:19:31saying you can kill lot of people, but you cannot win. The Russian empire has fallen,
00:19:35Russia lost the crimean war, lost the..." Russia japanese war, lost the first
00:19:39world war in Afghanistan, lost the cold war, Ben Hodges, the
00:19:43former US Army, Europe commander, said Finland alone would
00:19:47crush Russian forces, the European Union Defense and space
00:19:51commission said, if we continue to be afraid of Russian escalation will encourage Putin
00:19:54escalate more, time and time again
00:19:58the the speakers at this forum will be saying, I mean
00:20:02the ex-nato military committee chair admiral Rob Bower said our whole
00:20:06of society is talking of western Europe, I presume, our whole of
00:20:09society effort must now be structured to withstand
00:20:13a hot conflict with Russia. These people
00:20:17are so, I'm gonna, I'm going to double down, these
00:20:21people are so inconfident, it's beyond belief. It's not
00:20:25only war propitearing, although some them do that. It
00:20:29is
00:20:33people, I know
00:20:42In fact,
00:20:42I had
00:20:43was senior advisor to the Polish government, I helped them a lot. Thank
00:20:47you uh, in the late 80s and the early. 1990s
00:20:51at the same time that I was meeting with the chancellor Cole and the same
00:20:54time I was advising President Gorbachov and the same time I was advising
00:20:58President Yelson and the same time I was advising Ukrainian President
00:21:01Kuschma uh and I know how the
00:21:05United States so profoundly messed up
00:21:09yes it's incompetence mixed with Huberus all these
00:21:13people are arrogant they don't know history they're kill they're
00:21:17taking other people's lives. of course they have no
00:21:20accountability, so there are many different dimensions to it, but I'm going to
00:21:24double down on incompetence is being a very major factor, we
00:21:28need governments of people who know what they're doing,
00:21:32and of course they have to care not to get lot of people
00:21:35killed, and so it's two criteria, some decency and
00:21:39some competence. I mean, the Trump administration is sending the
00:21:43former special presidential envoy,
00:21:47Keith Kellog, and a commissioner for you.
00:21:50European
00:21:51command,
00:21:56kellog is a hardliner,
00:22:00absolutely could not put together a coherent
00:22:04thought when he was the formal advisor,
00:22:07last time I saw was on the on the floor the
00:22:11UN general assembly year agosing with with
00:22:15mr with the ministersky, this is
00:22:19not so...
00:22:29saying the answer to Russia should be more support for
00:22:32Ukraine. I suppose my question to you is you know that there was
00:22:36a fair degree of opposition to Putin now within Russia that he's not
00:22:40prosecuting this as well as he might
00:22:43do and is being too lineant as the drone
00:22:47attacks on Moscow the civilian casualties
00:22:51caused by MI6 and CIA Intel guided
00:22:54drones, what do you think Russia should do given that this
00:22:58is the kind of thing they say, this is Gabriel
00:23:01Lansbergis the ex Lithuania foreign minister, Lithuania just changed their
00:23:05nuclear weapons doctrine, said we are merely postponing a war that will swallow the rest
00:23:09of Europe if we don't defeat Russia on the
00:23:11battlefield from Lithuania, can
00:23:15you
00:23:24Israel, but even even radically more so, which
00:23:27is they think the US, that they can say anything, that they can
00:23:31spew as much anti-Russia hatred, that they can talk
00:23:35about defeating a nuclear superpower
00:23:38with 1,600 deployed nuclear weapons
00:23:42and about 6, in total, that they can say all of this
00:23:46because they think the US has their back. "this
00:23:50this is actually not how the world works, and they
00:23:54are so reckless and stupid
00:23:57to talk in these terms, and please, I don't want anyone to call
00:24:01a Putin apologist on this, because I have
00:24:05a presidential award from Estonia because I helped the
00:24:09Baltic states, I worked with Estonia, helped them introduce their
00:24:12national currency, got an award from their president, one the highest
00:24:16civilian awards, I'm not anybody's apologies." just i
00:24:20just find what is being said right now
00:24:24suicidal and unbelievably stupid and
00:24:27unbelievably devoid of historical awareness
00:24:31and unbelievably reckless, just
00:24:35reckless and who the hell is lithuaniaa to talk about
00:24:39defeating
00:24:46like grown ups if we're going to survive and if we're going to save this world. for our
00:24:50children and grandchildren, and these people are not behaving like
00:24:53grown-ups. Anyone who's watching this program, who also watches lot
00:24:57of uh western European broadcasts or American broadcast, well the
00:25:01wire agency, reuters associated press will say everything you've said is kind
00:25:05of Putin talking point, how is the media helped
00:25:08to promote the continuation of this war
00:25:12and the horrific numbers of dead and wounded on the
00:25:16front? the media is mouth.
00:25:21for the military industrial conflicts in the united
00:25:23states and
00:25:26i counted in 2022 to 2023 in the
00:25:30first year the war the new york times used the word
00:25:34unprovoked to refer to Russia's
00:25:37invasion unprovoked use that word
00:25:4026 times on the opinion pages so
00:25:44i asked the editor in the opinion
00:25:48pages let me write one
00:25:51high 700 words to explain
00:25:55why this war was provoked and she wouldn't
00:25:58let me do it and i went around and around in circles for:
00:26:02months, I couldn't get 700 words, I didn't even care if
00:26:06it was in print, I said, just make it online, you have endless
00:26:09capacity online, these places don't
00:26:13want to hear facts, they don't want to
00:26:16debate, it's all closed up, and that's just the
00:26:20propaganda that we're living with right now, that's the tragedy,
00:26:24just finally, by the time this is being broadcast, we don't know Israel or the United
00:26:28States might have deployed a nuclear attack on Iran.
00:26:32how would you advise the Iranian government in the
00:26:35circumstances given the seismic
00:26:39impact of this war billions pushed well
00:26:43into poverty partly because the high inflation, let alone the mass
00:26:46casualty events we've seen in this region in the bust uh
00:26:50since February. look, Iran is Iran
00:26:54is facing a an existential
00:26:57war, it was attacked in a brutal
00:27:00aggression uh, by the United States and
00:27:04Israel, I think people should
00:27:07remember that on the first day the attack the
00:27:11leaders of Iran were together because they were
00:27:14discussing the next round of negotiation,
00:27:18because
00:27:18there was a supposedly negotiating process
00:27:22underway, that's the American and Mosad
00:27:25style, which is, oh, get the other side to
00:27:29negotiate, and then when they're together, kill them, that...
00:27:33is literally the policy that they followed, they were
00:27:37together to discuss what to say or how to respond in the next
00:27:40round of negotiation that was to take place in Vienna the following
00:27:44week, the Omani mediator had said how much progress had been
00:27:48made, and so Musad and Trump and BB
00:27:51thought this is a great opportunity to kill and yet continue
00:27:55to off more negotiations
00:28:06them, they in my mind carry
00:28:08dignity of a civilization that
00:28:12is 2,500 years old, the history
00:28:16is that Persia has been there a very long time, and
00:28:20the Persian and the Iranian negotiators are very
00:28:23dignified, very intelligent, very well educated people,
00:28:27and the United States in Israel think that they're just targets for
00:30:19Russia is yet to comment on Donald Trump's announcement of an
00:30:22energy cease fire in the Ukraine conflict, the US statement appears to
00:30:26have caught Zelensky by surprise, as he says the
00:30:30Kiev would only agree if MOS. does the
00:30:33same, the
00:30:36Europeans have given the Russians more money,
00:30:40they are since the start of this war then they have given the Ukrainians because they
00:30:44cannot win themselves off Russian energy.
00:30:48Washington blasts the EU's hypocrisy over Russian
00:30:51energy imports as German opposition officials demand their
00:30:55own Trump style diesel deal with Moscow.
00:30:59It is a...
