00:00:17Good evening, welcome to this Telesur
00:00:21News broadcast. Let's hear the
00:00:22headlines.
00:00:25The presidential candidates of Brazil, Lula and Flavio
00:00:29throughout the country. Although no Bolsonaro, led demonstrations in Sao Paulo towards the
00:00:32runoff on October 25th.
00:00:33octubre,
00:00:39In the Dominican Republic, citizens mobilized to demand improvements in
00:00:43public services from the government of Luis Abinader.
00:00:56The Italian capital Rome prepares for the start of the FAO World
00:01:00Food Forum with the presence of Latin American
00:01:03leaders.
00:01:11and caused confusion among I'm Andrea Romero, I'll be with you, and let's go
00:01:15to the news. The far-right candidate Flavio
00:01:18Bolsonaro held a meeting with authorities in Sao Paulo, including
00:01:22the governor and mayors of the state. Weeks
00:01:262 and a half million meals distributed in before the second round of elections, Ignacio Lemus gives us more information.
00:01:32Greetings, Studio. We are in front of Shopping Light in Sao
00:01:36Paulo in the central region of Sao Paulo, very close to where the
00:01:39prefecture of Sao Paulo is located, the mayor's office. Here
00:01:43arrived the presidential candidate for the far-right Liberal Party,
00:01:46Flavio Bolsonaro. He met today
00:01:50in this space with mayors from various sectors in
00:01:54Sao Paulo, also with the governor of the state of Sao Paulo,
00:01:57Tarcisio de Freitas, maintaining the image of the last week, that
00:02:00photograph with the allies, those who provided support
00:02:05World Food Forum of the United to his candidacy for the runoff of the presidential
00:02:08elections. It must be remembered that Flavio Bolsonaro obtained
00:02:11support from those right-wing and far-right sectors that did not reach
00:02:15the runoff and have few votes in the
00:02:19currently it has achieved, through total votes in the balance of the
00:02:22first round. However, these are important votes
00:02:26given the close result between Flavio Bolsonaro and Lula
00:02:29Da Silva. In this close election, all votes count, and that's why
00:02:33these supports are important for the far-right
00:02:36candidate. Flavio Bolsonaro here asked his militants not to
00:02:40let their guard down. It must be emphasized that on the other side, on Paulista Avenue,
00:02:44practically 2 km from here, Lula da Silva, according
00:02:48to data presented by the Workers' Party, gathered
00:02:521 million people to
00:02:55show support for his campaign for the second round of elections.
00:02:59Lula in the first round was practically two
00:03:01points behind Flavio Bolsonaro, and now he intends
00:03:05to reverse that scenario by showing widespread
00:03:08demonstrations in the streets
00:03:10Dominican Republic, and in during the last few days and particularly today, Sunday, here in Sao Paulo.
00:03:13Studio, thank you
00:03:16to our colleague Ignacio Lemus for this information. We continue in Brazil because
00:03:20popular organizations are calling for national mobilizations to
00:03:23support the re-election of Luis
00:03:26meeting to commemorate Resistance Ignacio Lula da Silva as a preventive
00:03:28challenge of food measure against a possible election of Flavio Bolsonaro.
00:03:31Sao Paulo is the epicenter of the massive mobilizations, which
00:03:35promise to increase participation in the streets, where
00:03:38a rally was also held by candidate Flavio
00:03:42Bolsonaro. President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva leads
00:03:45the campaign activities and mobilizations on Paulista Avenue
00:03:49to seek his re-election. The head of
00:03:532026 edition of state prepares to overcome the disadvantage of almost
00:03:56two percentage points registered in the first round,
00:04:00promoting a climate of social mobilization and support for his candidacy.
00:04:27Our program "Venezuela in Movement" continues its journey
00:04:31through the country. During its stop in Miranda state, it learned about the
00:04:34productive experience of the Añaplácida commune. Our
00:04:38colleague Michel Ramírez tells us the
00:04:40details.
00:04:44We arrived at the warm lands of Cuba, Miranda state, where the
00:04:48Añaplácida commune is located, which with a spirit of struggle, love, and
00:04:52commitment to the homeland, has launched various initiatives that seek
00:04:55to promote local economy and the construction of social happiness.
00:04:59Let's get to know this
00:05:02justice, there is no peace. So that is what community together. In the center of Venezuela, Miranda state, in the Tuy Valleys region,
00:05:06is the town of Cua, founded in
00:05:091690 and popularly
00:05:11origins. I think one of known as the pearl of... This town, with over
00:05:15170,000 inhabitants, stands out for two important
00:05:18reasons: its historic center, birthplace of the hero Ezequiel Zamora, and for its
00:05:21people, productive
00:05:23men and women.
00:05:32Cuba is much more than these rural streets. In these lands
00:05:35reside the women of the Añaplácida commune, an example of strength
00:05:39and communal organization. Together they have fought for their community
00:05:42for more than a decade, and every initiative has been born within the walls of their
00:05:46self-government hall. The commune is my
00:05:48home. The comuneros are my
00:05:52brothers. The contemporary comuneras with me
00:05:55are my brothers. I have my
00:05:58grandchildren within the commune, so for me, the commune is a
00:06:01home, a home where we are
00:06:04equals, and among equals we have
00:06:07greater, we have greater capacity to
00:06:11understand each other. And if we have any difficulty, we are also
00:06:15able to overcome it, but together as a family.
00:06:18So from the bottom of my heart, I love my
00:06:21commune, and I love my fellow
00:06:24comuneros, male and female, because here 80%
00:06:27is female, and
00:06:30most of the self-government bodies are made up of
00:06:33women. My comrades, the 20%
00:06:36male are also my fellow comuneros. They also have a
00:06:40sense of belonging and commitment,
00:06:43just like a woman, and they defend women to the hilt.
00:06:46So what can I tell you? My commune is my
00:06:49home, my commune is my home, and my comunero is my
00:06:53family. During the pandemic, a project was born: the
00:06:56collection of solid waste so that its inhabitants live in a clean
00:07:00and healthy space. Months later, it became a circular
00:07:04economy. We have built, over the
00:07:07last 8 years, through the self-government system
00:07:11with the participation of 16 communal councils,
00:07:14a direct social property company that was born as a
00:07:18solid waste management plan. That plan continues to
00:07:22collect 60 tons of waste in a
00:07:26self-managed way for those 16 communal
00:07:28councils, and
00:07:32training and organization, to
00:07:35form an EPS with the support of Caricuado Caribe, who were
00:07:38our main trainers. Mainly, our
00:07:42objective as a commune is to generate a transformation process
00:07:45with our Mother Earth, to generate a transformation
00:07:49process from the citizen in relation
00:07:51to nature, in relation to our
00:07:55territory as that main environment that gives us
00:07:59life and that gives
00:08:01us life and that generates for
00:08:05all of us the main inputs to develop
00:08:08as a people, as a nation. The workforce is female. It is
00:08:12women who collect the waste in their communities and bring it to
00:08:16the collection center, and with the passage of the scooter, the journey begins
00:08:20until it reaches the classification
00:08:21center.
00:08:29To this green landscape they arrive with enthusiasm, get to work
00:08:33and recycle what was once garbage. We separate
00:08:36it into eight groups. Each group
00:08:40is formed by an item. For example, we have the
00:08:43PET, which we call PET, which is the
00:08:46plastic from chairs, the plastic from laundry baskets,
00:08:50the plastic from kitchen utensils. We also have
00:08:54blown plastic, which is this plastic that includes shampoo
00:08:58and chlorine bottles, paint cans.
00:09:01We also have,
00:09:05separately, because it's a material that we cannot mix with others, what
00:09:08is the plastic from butter
00:09:11containers, from Chinese rice, the plastic from
00:09:15refrigerators, from washing machines, and all of this, all this process we
00:09:19do here with the spokespersons who make up the EPS, the commune,
00:09:22those of us who started with this project. Once
00:09:26we have weighed it by communal council
00:09:30to know what quantity each communal
00:09:33council has given us, we can then give
00:09:37them back what they need: brush cutters for their dance
00:09:40group, lighting, whatever
00:09:42they require and can afford with the amount of
00:09:46material they have given us. The love for the homeland, for the environment, for their
00:09:50Venezuelan brothers, has been the backbone that has sustained their
00:09:53work. Love, first, the legacy left to us by
00:09:57our commander Rafael Hugo Chávez Frías, which our president Nicolás Maduro
00:10:00is following, and now our acting president Delsi
00:10:04Rodríguez. To generate is that: socialism,
00:10:07unity, equality, social justice,
00:10:11because if there is no
00:10:15we want: manufacturing and export.
00:10:17exportación,
00:10:22Thus, the Añaplácida commune consolidates itself as a benchmark for
00:10:25self-management, popular organization, and sustainable
00:10:28development. Its management stands out for its ability to transform local
00:10:32problems into collective solutions, achieving a balance between
00:10:35citizen participation and environmental care. With Jesús
00:10:39Romero on camera, Michel Ramírez from Miranda, Venezuela for
00:10:41Telesur. A 7.5 magnitude
00:10:44earthquake and a hundred aftershocks shook Panama on
00:10:48Friday, October 9, leaving more than 400 homes affected
00:10:54fatalities have been reported so far, the government
00:10:57declared a state of emergency and mobilized national and international
00:11:00aid to the hardest-hit provinces.
00:11:03Our colleague Reca Chandiramani tells us
00:11:06more.
00:11:09A 7.5 magnitude earthquake on the Richter
00:11:12scale shook Panama this Friday. The
00:11:16first event was registered at 12:56 local
00:11:20time on October 9, with an epicenter near
00:11:23Tonosí, in the province of Los Santos, south of the country,
00:11:27about 5 hours from the capital. The
00:11:31earthquake was felt in at least nine of the 10 provinces
00:11:36the population. In Panama City, thousands of people
00:11:40evacuated skyscrapers, businesses, and
00:11:43offices. I was the first one who noticed it in my salon. I said, "Oh, it's
00:11:47shaking hard! Let's all run!" And we all went to
00:11:50the sidewalk. We saw people running, the people from
00:11:54Lidan came outside. The
00:11:57buildings were swaying from side to side. The truth is, it was very,
00:12:01very, very scary.
00:12:04I felt a lot of panic. I
00:12:07had never experienced anything like it. When
00:12:10we felt the second one and saw the cars starting to move,
00:12:14lamps started to fall in the building,
00:12:17people started running, people who didn't, who used canes,
00:12:21forgot about their canes and ran out.
00:12:25On the floor, we had to help lift them up, but thank God,
00:12:29at least in the Viva España area, it was largely evacuated.
00:12:33As of Saturday, no fatalities or disappearances
00:12:36were reported. The authorities did
00:12:39record at least 27 people with
00:12:42injuries ranging from moderate to severe. The
00:12:46aftershocks, however, kept the population on edge
00:12:50for more than 24 hours. Many neighbors also had to sleep
00:12:53out here. We are going
00:12:57in and out, some are not coming down today, but yes, those of us who are
00:13:00waiting, unexpected, I think that here in
00:13:03Panama something like this was not expected,
00:13:07much less by me, I mean, experiencing it was something
00:13:10very out of the ordinary. More than 400
00:13:13homes were affected throughout the country, in addition
00:13:17to 188 schools and damage to hospitals,
00:13:21churches, and governmental buildings. The
00:13:24cathedral of San Juan Bautista de Penonomé, in the center of the
00:13:27country, lost one of its towers and a side of the
00:13:31Coclé government building collapsed. The
00:13:34Tocumen airport suspended operations for a few
00:13:37hours, while the Panama Canal continued to operate. The
00:13:41provinces where most residences have been registered are Herrera, Los Santos,
00:13:45and Veraguas, where we also have island areas, Cañas Island, which was
00:13:48affected by the rise in water levels and needed to evacuate
00:13:52300 people. The government declared a state of emergency
00:13:55to facilitate assistance for an amount
00:13:58of up to 100 million dollars. The
00:14:01President of the Republic gave clear instructions that all
00:14:05ministers and institutions be
00:14:08available and with the resources
00:14:11for solidarity aid to all
00:14:14those affected. This Saturday, national and international aid began to be mobilized
00:14:18to the provinces of Coclé,
00:14:21Aguas, and Los Santos. Airplanes loaded with water, tents, dry
00:14:26food, and essential supplies are being
00:14:29collected at the capital's city hall and Omar Park.
00:14:33Classes are suspended
00:14:37this Monday, while the government assesses the damage and
00:14:41establishes assistance protocols in the coming
00:14:44days. For Telesur, from Panama
00:14:47City.
00:14:48Panamá.
00:14:55various streets in the country to demand improvements in public
00:14:58services from the national government. This Sunday's march calls attention to
00:15:02problems of access to land, public services,
00:15:06social security, and living conditions. The
00:15:09call brings together social, peasant, labor,
00:15:12student, and community organizations from the region.
00:15:16Under the slogan, "The East region rises, we can't take any more
00:15:20abuses," the protests also denounce evictions,
00:15:24violence against women, and alleged
00:15:27labor abuses.
00:15:35We are demanding
00:15:38what is rightfully ours. In this community, we don't have drinking water, we
00:15:42don't have quality healthcare services, there are no schools,
00:15:45the streets are dark. We live in constant disaster, and we have
00:15:49united and risen up to demand what is rightfully ours: more
00:15:52local roads, that farmers be considered, that their
00:15:56land not be taken away. We are also
00:15:59asking for better healthcare, because
00:16:03we have hospitals but not enough
00:16:06for our region. We
00:16:10want more specialists because
00:16:13we have few doctors without any
00:16:15specialty. This march today, October
00:16:1811, is because the state has a social debt with the eastern region
00:16:22and the country, because there are a series of problems that the state has not
00:16:26been able to, has not been able to fulfill, and because workers have rights that
00:16:30are being denied, such as the right to severance pay, the
00:16:33right to work with dignity, the right to social
00:16:36security. For that reason, we march.
00:16:40We march today, October 11, to stop
00:16:43evictions in the eastern region and throughout the country, to lower the high
00:16:47cost of living, and so that the popular and working class
00:16:51can have a dignified life in the Dominican Republic. The spokesperson for the
00:16:54sugar cane workers, Jesús,
00:16:57denounced that contributors are denied
00:17:00access to medical care. It is not
00:17:03fair, it is not possible that sugar cane workers who
00:17:07contributed to the social and economic development of the country
00:17:10and had social security deducted from their wages, now
00:17:14when they go to hospitals, they are denied
00:17:17care. We say that the government
00:17:21is obligated to provide healthcare to that
00:17:25population by presenting their work card
00:17:28and also their pension application. Why? Because these
00:17:31workers are the ones who truly founded
00:17:35social security in the Dominican
00:17:38Republic. This Sunday, the indigenous peoples of El
00:17:41Salvador gather to commemorate Resistance Day,
00:17:45which is celebrated this coming October 12. The
00:17:48activity takes place in the central square of Izalco, one of the
00:17:52towns with the largest indigenous population, seeking to highlight the
00:17:56heritage and resistance of a people that marked history. The
00:17:59gathering honors ancestors and recalls battles of
00:18:03resistance against the process of conquest and invasion in the
00:18:06region. Since October 12,
00:18:091492, 543 years
00:18:12have passed, which demonstrates the exact duration of the indifference and
00:18:16marginalization that indigenous communities received during the
00:18:20invasion of the Spanish
00:18:21colony.
00:18:30The ancestral council of the indigenous peoples of El
00:18:33Salvador commemorated this Sunday Indigenous Resistance Day.
00:18:37The meeting took place in Izalco, in the west of the
00:18:40country, one of the few localities that houses
00:18:44a small indigenous community. Our correspondent
00:18:47Roberto Hugo Presa informs
00:18:49us.
00:18:52Izalco is one of the few indigenous settlements of Pipil
00:18:55descent, one of the oldest and most representative of El Salvador.
00:18:58The central plaza was the scene this Sunday of a
00:19:04Day. We practically call it
00:19:08Resistance Day because
00:19:11since then, a way for our peoples to resist
00:19:15against that culture
00:19:18that was imposed and that continues to dominate, what we call
00:19:22the hegemonizing and homogenizing
00:19:25culture, right? That is
00:19:28imposed on our
00:19:30peoples.
00:19:32Rites, ancestral ceremonies,
00:19:35music, and exhibitions were the prelude to the discussion,
00:19:39"The world has not yet discovered America."
00:19:42We are showing that despite
00:19:46530-something years, we are still alive,
00:19:50and today more than ever, telling
00:19:53states and peoples that they
00:19:57were wrong, they could not exterminate us, because
00:20:00at the core, the very roots of our
00:20:04existence, of our culture, of our...
00:20:08why not say it, of our peoples? They can't even
00:20:11visualize it.
00:20:14The indigenous peoples denounce the indifference and marginalization they have
00:20:18suffered for more than 500 years, and that is why they demand from
00:20:21the government. I believe that demanding
00:20:24or claiming what is truly
00:20:27ours, our rights, I don't see that we are
00:20:31talking about being against the government or anything like
00:20:34that.
00:20:37Youth and artists in solidarity with cultural identity lament that
00:20:41society, the state, and new generations are
00:20:45indifferent to their own
00:20:48the reasons is a structural issue, not
00:20:51intentional, for example, that we have been
00:20:54so invaded by technology and that this alienates
00:20:58us, deprives
00:21:01reality, and that in some way we lose
00:21:04collectivity. Every day fewer and fewer
00:21:07people like this music due
00:21:11to the excessive influence from outside with different
00:21:14musical genres, such as
00:21:18rap, reggaeton, and all that.
00:21:23Izalco is a town with a rich historical, cultural, and
00:21:26resistance heritage. In 1932, it was the
00:21:29epicenter of a peasant and indigenous uprising against the
00:21:32dispossession of communal lands, after a violent military
00:21:35repression. From this place, which is the cradle of indigenous
00:21:39resistance in El Salvador, the indigenous peoples of this country
00:21:43called on all ancestral communities in the
00:21:46world to continue fighting
00:21:49in defense of their rights.
00:21:52534 years later, Roberto
00:21:55Hugo Presa, Telesur, Izalco, El
00:21:58Salvador.
00:22:00Citizens gathered at the rally of presidential candidate
00:22:04Jean-Luc Mélenchon and the political party La France
00:22:08Insoumise in a demonstration of strength by the French
00:22:11left. The event, held in a context of growing
00:22:14social and student mobilization against the Macron government's policies,
00:22:18served to affirm the unity of the progressive
00:22:21bloc and its agenda of social transformation.
00:22:24Mélenchon called for popular mobilization against cuts in
00:22:28education and public services, denouncing the disproportionate
00:22:32use of force against students. The
00:22:35concentration reflected the growing support for the proposals of the
00:22:38French left, which seeks to capitalize on social
00:22:42discontent in view of future electoral
00:22:45processes.
00:22:51Rome prepares for the start of the
00:22:55Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
00:22:58(FAO) with the presence of various Latin American
00:23:01leaders. From Italy, the details with Sergio Rodrigo.
00:23:05Rodrigo.
00:23:08Hello, good evening. Indeed, here in Rome, everything is
00:23:11ready for the plenary session, the main assembly
00:23:15of this World Food Forum,
00:23:18organized by the FAO, this United Nations organization for
00:23:21agriculture and food, one of the main and
00:23:25essential events that takes place here in Rome where the FAO has its
00:23:28permanent headquarters, one of its main headquarters,
