00:00:06communities are not limited to
00:00:26Venezuela, popular participation opens up avenues
00:00:30to promote local initiatives, generate
00:00:32opportunities, and strengthen the economy from within the
00:00:36communities themselves. These experiences show how collective
00:00:40work can become a tool to
00:00:43transform the environment and build
00:00:46alternatives from the ground up. This is how
00:00:49Venezuela moves from its communities,
00:00:53initiatives, and the strength of its people.
00:00:56Facing the waters of the Caribbean in northwestern Venezuela, in the municipality of Bolívar
00:01:00in Anzoátegui state,
00:01:03the Mother Earth is strengthening it lies Maurica, a coastal town where the breeze smells of hard work and transformation. At
00:01:07first glance, the landscape offers color and tradition, but upon entering, an
00:01:11unstoppable dynamic is felt: women on the move, kitchens bustling, and the aroma of
00:01:14fresh fish and freshly
00:01:16made empanadas.
00:01:20A mural marks the welcome and the mystique of this territory. In
00:01:24the commune, yes, we can. Through communal organization, these
00:01:27leaders went from resistance to productive vanguard. Well, this
00:01:31project was born approximately in
00:01:352018, 2017.
00:01:39A group of women, at that time there were 10 women, 20 women
00:01:42who organized ourselves at that time when the situation was a
00:01:46bit complicated. So well, from there we, the
00:01:50women of the sea, were born. And well, this has been a
00:01:53project that has been taking small steps
00:01:56as a result of the
00:01:58planting is, what pig farming is, what consultations and with the help
00:02:01of both the government and the municipality of Simón Bolívar
00:02:04so that we could organize ourselves
00:02:08and carry out this project that now we have our fish processing
00:02:11plant and our restaurant area. The
00:02:15movement in Maurica not only generates
00:02:18their care. Right now, I arrive production, it also attracts those who seek the authenticity of the
00:02:20we have the planting of oriental flavor.
00:02:24What kind of fish are they coming out of?
00:02:27When you see women working, it's always
00:02:30curtains are, what the air is, what more active, right? Besides, the name is very beautiful, women of the sea.
00:02:34And the women prepare excellent
00:02:37food, for example, the fish soup, which is a
00:02:41characteristic of the east of the country. Here, those who want to come can
00:02:45apocalyptic, the noise of enjoy it. I have a daughter abroad who
00:02:49language of arrogance on came now, and every day she was here for three weeks,
00:02:52she had fish soup,
00:02:55because the lady where she lives well,
00:02:57so many people from other parts of the
00:03:02at the 34th session of country want to come here to have fish soup, to eat the fish empanada.
00:03:06In this coastal enclave, communal strength
00:03:09expands along the beach where the community
00:03:13is built, itself joins. Women of the sea, the community has been joining this
00:03:16project with their sweets. Here you can find
00:03:20sweets, cocada, eh,
00:03:22cakes, quesillos. They are entrepreneurs, they are entrepreneurs
00:03:26who have seen that
00:03:29here they can continue to carry out their projects, team,
00:03:33team, that is definitely the key to success,
00:03:37right? Because there is definitely no
00:03:40selfishness, there is for all ages and tastes
00:03:43too. One makes,
00:03:46customs, what we share just as there is the food processing company, there is also the
00:03:49restaurant. The community absorbs what is
00:03:53other areas that not all of them absorb.
00:03:56More than a gastronomic point, this space has consolidated itself as a leisure destination
00:04:00for the whole family. Direct attention from the women of the sea and the
00:04:03enjoyment in front of the Caribbean are now a tangible reality, boosted
00:04:07by direct funding allocated to the community through the national
00:04:11popular consultation. I come from
00:04:14street and it would be full of garbage on Barcelona. This is called life.
00:04:17Precisely that vitality brought back to the coast is what keeps Maurica on its feet.
00:04:20For its creators, the joy and rootedness to the territory are the
00:04:24true strength that drives their daily work and attracts visitors from all
00:04:28over the world. We, Venezuelans, this
00:04:31joy, this great, this great
00:04:34spirit that we have to work for
00:04:37everything, right? And well, this
00:04:40coast, this
00:04:43breeze, beach, everything, everything, this is what
00:04:46strengthens us to continue fighting and being
00:04:50here in Venezuela. We have been visited by people from Argentina,
00:04:53people from Brazil, people from
00:04:58production, and attention to Haiti, Colombia, United States, many people. Many people have come and
00:05:02they say it's the best, that is, fresh fish, eating
00:05:06the fish with their arepas, their
00:05:08How to transform youth excellent, among golden
00:05:11have an oxygen tank sunsets over the Caribbean, Anzoátegui is a productive epicenter with an 86%
00:05:14growth in its fishing activity, an achievement boosted by
00:05:1773 communities and more than 6 thousand sea workers, who today
00:05:21transform the tradition of this coast into an economic engine full of life and
00:05:25future.
00:05:27In the municipality of Simón Bolívar, in the state of
00:05:30Anzoátegui, communal
00:05:34territorial management, with technical training and the
00:05:37promotion of productive projects, communities
00:05:41explore new ways to generate
00:05:44employment, take advantage of their resources, and
00:05:47strengthen self-management.
00:05:51We arrived in Barcelona, capital of Anzoátegui, an urban hub where
00:05:55more than 560 organized communal councils live, on a
00:05:58journey that takes us to El
00:06:00Carmen parish.
00:06:03There, the Casique Huaikaipuro and Ezequiel Zamora communes share an industrial
00:06:06warehouse to transform technical knowledge into productive
00:06:09sovereignty.
00:06:12In this space, young people are trained in administrative and
00:06:16metalworking processes, reducer, sensor of the
00:06:19reducer die, here is the cooling tank of the reducer die,
00:06:22not only to prepare steel wire rod,
00:06:25but to ensure that the social leadership of the communities transcends
00:06:29territorial work and is consolidated into productive companies.
00:06:33This has been supported by Ince as an institution that we started
00:06:36because we, the spokespeople, are just spokespeople,
00:06:39people who defend the social, the political in the
00:06:42territory, we seek to solve a problem, but now
00:06:45we have transcended from the local, from confinement and we have reached
00:06:48the topic of productive empowerment, which is this company,
00:06:52not only does the Ezequiel Zamora commune have this company as
00:06:55such, of part of evaluating it, but it also
00:06:59has what is the transport company, a company
00:07:03that is of Fruto Viva that you will know the experience that is about
00:07:06recycling together with the Casique Guaiqueai
00:07:09Puro commune. Between machines and organization, youth takes the lead to
00:07:13put into practice what has been learned, demonstrating that with discipline and
00:07:16technical training, the community takes control of its own
00:07:19production,
00:07:23a technical rigor that demands precision in the maintenance and constant
00:07:27calibration of the machines to guarantee the success of each operating
00:07:30cycle. Okay, this is the main
00:07:33brain of these machines since each frequency variator that you are seeing here
00:07:37controls a cycle of each motor. Each motor
00:07:40is eh calibrated. For, from one point, each
00:07:44motor goes up two points. If a motor goes up in
00:07:48value, the wires will break and that cannot be allowed. The
00:07:52variator maintains that constant speed one
00:07:55over another, that is, 1
00:07:58and a half, two, two and a half, successively. In this same
00:08:01warehouse, the Ezequiel Zamora commune also promotes a recycling
00:08:05project where the collection of solid waste is transformed into raw material and
00:08:09environmental awareness for the surroundings. Ready, today we are
00:08:12here selecting the plastic, which
00:08:15comes from the communities around the
00:08:18commune. Today here, as you can see, we are
00:08:22selecting the plastic, we have machinery which
00:08:26drives us to have the impulse of the
00:08:30raw material as such, focusing
00:08:33on the final point which is the work material. This is
00:08:37thanks to the communities, we have 16
00:08:41communal councils which we asked for their joint
00:08:43support. We see it as garbage, but the
00:08:47reality benefits us in a future. This has
00:08:51helped the community generate
00:08:54cleanliness in their streets as well as in the yards of their homes,
00:08:58because it is something that we do not buy, but the
00:09:02community knows the effort and the grain of sand it
00:09:05is contributing. A transformation that turns plastic into structures and ecological
00:09:09parks, returning public spaces what was once...
00:09:12garbage that we decided to promote
00:09:15the issue of recycling due to the many complaints that people had regarding
00:09:19garbage. So people would throw garbage in the
00:09:23streets, you would go to a
00:09:26the corners. That was the topic that obviously do not throw
00:09:30garbage in the streets, sidewalks, or corners, but
00:09:34obviously make from their homes a process of
00:09:37recycling, that is, separate the plastic for us to do what
00:09:41is through the METRAS, which are the technical tables of recycling and cleaning,
00:09:45the collection. And this is the impact that we
00:09:49can have as a communal experience, is when we take a
00:09:52park to a school, when we take a park to a community, and every
00:09:56time we see a smile on those children and see people when
00:10:00we talk to them about our experience and tell them, look, that
00:10:03comes from the garbage that we ourselves generate. Thus, the municipality of Simón
00:10:07Bolívar advances with 29 consolidated communes in local industry,
00:10:10self-management, and real solutions for...
00:10:15More than 4,100 communal councils and spokespersons
00:10:19in the 21 municipalities account for popular
00:10:22organization in Anzoátegui, but... Behind that network there are also
00:10:26hands that work, the knowledge that is
00:10:29transmitted, and the fishing communities that
00:10:33keep alive an essential activity for
00:10:36the region, because talking about economics is also talking
00:10:39about those who make it possible.

00:13:19What changes when a community can decide
00:13:22what it needs and what to invest in? In
00:13:26Anzoátegui, the Kumanagoto communities
00:13:29have promoted projects to expand medical
00:13:33care and educational opportunities, two
00:13:36experiences that bring to the center an essential
00:13:39question: how to convert collective decisions into
00:13:43concrete answers for people.
00:13:45personas.
00:13:49On the north coast of Anzoátegui state, we arrived in Puerto Piritu to learn about the
00:13:53indigenous commune "Todos Juntos por".
00:14:16Through popular consultations, a direct democracy mechanism,
00:14:20the provision of its type two popular clinic was financed,
00:14:23guaranteeing the health of its members. Thanks, we truly
00:14:26have a CPT 2 here
00:14:30where we have a very very
00:14:32good environment to receive our
00:14:36patients from several communities who visit
00:14:39us here. We have dentistry, general
00:14:42medicine. The popular consultations have
00:14:45helped the community a
00:14:49lot because they are consultations for the well-being of the people,
00:14:53of the benefited community.
00:14:55It has been several months already, it was an
00:14:59achievement here in our community, well, they supported us, they
00:15:02went out to vote for our ambulatory because it is
00:15:05a benefit for everyone, eh, many
00:15:08things were achieved that were not there before.
00:15:11Now we are using it as
00:15:14it should be. Inside the ambulatory, medical attention does not
00:15:18stop thanks to the resources allocated by popular vote. Well, for
00:15:22me it has been very satisfying in the sense that we now have an
00:15:25electrocardiogram machine and EKGs can be done immediately
00:15:29for users who require and need it at that
00:15:33moment. We also
00:15:36that was added to the service, very good because it can be carried, it
00:15:40is small, it is portable and it can be carried when a transfer is to be made
00:15:43if the ambulance does not have that
00:15:45benefit.
00:15:51Only 10 km separate us from the road to Las Lomas, a settlement of the
00:15:54Cumanagoto people,
00:15:58where ancestral magic celebrates the welcome to a new school year within this
00:16:02infrastructure built by communal organization to
00:16:05house the classrooms of 29 children of the indigenous
00:16:08peoples. Within each of these life
00:16:12cycles, we have an infinity of
00:16:15beliefs. Ancestral invocations mark the pulse of the
00:16:18community.
00:16:28The wisdom of the ancestors harmonizes the energy of the earth and the protection of
00:16:31harvests for families. I realized at this moment that there is an
00:16:35eggplant crop that they have on the side, that
00:16:41together with the rain that has fallen these days, right?
00:16:44So that blessing is given by
00:16:48my heavenly father.
00:16:51This blessing is not simply for structure
00:16:54but for everything, for
00:16:57all the nature that surrounds us. Built after
00:17:01the popular consultation, the new headquarters allowed to expand school enrollment and
00:17:04add new teachers. We used to
00:17:07have a small school here in the community, it was on
00:17:11private land.
00:17:14Now it has been achieved to move
00:17:17what the community calls public to
00:17:21the front of the national road and it is a change because it is more
00:17:24spacious, we will have new teachers, previously we had one,
00:17:28it is more environmentalist, it has
00:17:31more student integration.
00:17:35Previously there were nine children in the enrollment,
00:17:38now there are 29 children, it will be led from
00:17:42initial to sixth grade. The new land not
00:17:46only benefits the children, it also opens space for school agricultural
00:17:49development, where teachers and students promote the planting of
00:17:52eggplants and other crops for self-consumption. Here
00:17:57the plantain planting,
00:18:00eh, God willing
00:18:04we will have more space to plant other vegetables. In
00:18:08the municipality of Piritu there are 26 settlements of the Cumanagoto people,
00:18:12ancestral communities that with the constitutional recognition of
00:18:151999, the law of indigenous peoples of 2005
00:18:19and the integration of communal councils in 2006,
00:18:23today consolidate self-management and the development of their own
00:18:25territories.
00:18:29Beyond the works, there is the capacity of the people
00:18:33to decide on their present and build their
00:18:36future. In eastern Venezuela, indigenous and
00:18:39communal communities make participation and collective
00:18:42work tools to transform their
00:18:46territories, because development is not only measured by what
00:18:50but also by who decides
00:18:54and who is the protagonist of that change.
00:20:46commitment into alternatives for food
00:20:50for a community in Caricuao, west of
00:20:53Caracas? The Valle de Veraca project links
00:20:56young people with agricultural production and
00:21:00training for work, an experience that puts on
00:21:03the table the role of community organization
00:21:07in the face of the challenge of producing food and making it more
00:21:10accessible.
00:21:14In the southwest of the Venezuelan capital, we delve into Caricuao, an ecological
00:21:17parish with more than 130,000 inhabitants, where the
00:21:21UT3 CC2 zoo commune operates, the Valle de Veraca Youth
00:21:25Agricultural Training Center.
00:21:28We begin our tour in the local nursery, a space equipped with
00:21:3224 organoponic tables for the continuous cultivation of vegetables that
00:21:36guarantees direct food to the sector and productive training for youth.
00:21:39Currently, we have a number of
00:21:4245 young people who have been developing,
00:21:46but we have had an even much greater number and
00:21:50they keep joining, you know that young people interact a lot and they
00:21:53comment on things and they always
00:21:57keep joining as they comment among themselves about the
00:22:00experience they are developing here. They come daily,
00:22:04normally those who are unemployed, they go to their studies,
00:22:07after their studies they come. The main thing is that they first
00:22:11have an orientation that the first thing is
00:22:14studying, then we will gradually learn about the trades that
00:22:18are being developed within the management of an agricultural farm.
00:22:22These are 56 young brigadistas integrated into the socio-productive work of the
00:22:25commune, who combine agricultural training with respect and environmental
00:22:29preservation. Besides being the founder of the project, it is to involve
00:22:33young people and give them training within the project
00:22:37and for them to fall in love with this project just as we, who 7
00:22:41years ago had a vision here within this space, are doing. It is to give
00:22:44them that training on what
00:22:48laying hens are, broiler chickens, so that they learn
00:22:51for their future and the future of the country. The tour now takes us to the
00:22:55Avian area, where the breeding of 3,000 broiler chickens
00:22:59is underway, a daily task in which young
00:23:02people like Daniel Rizo take on the technical responsibility of ensuring
00:23:08checking what the food is and what
00:23:11the chicken's hydration is.
00:23:15And I check what the
00:23:20the humidity of the
00:23:23floor is. Those daily checks that one has to do and as you can
00:23:27see they are already so big, they already have the skeleton formed, it is already
00:23:31what is called fattening. The journey continues in the
00:23:34laying hen area, a shed with 1300 Isa
00:23:38Brown hens, a global reference for their performance and adaptation to
00:23:41tropical climate. There, Mariela and Sillon lead the daily collection of
00:23:45eggs. I fell in love with the topic of hens, more than
00:23:48anything because it is a very
00:23:51beautiful topic where you learn so much. I feel very
00:23:55fortunate to participate in this, in the collection of eggs, in the
00:23:59feeding, in the care of the hens,
00:24:02and I know that this is a
00:24:04project that will be both for our benefit and
00:24:08for the benefit of our community, to whom
00:24:11these eggs will be sold. Here we have 1300
00:24:15laying hens of the Isabrown line,
00:24:19a very rustic
00:24:23hen in the space. Why rustic? Because it can
00:24:26adapt to the tropical climate, it adapts very well to
00:24:30the space. The process culminates in the classification area, where the
00:24:34eggs are selected according to their weight and quality, a task of
00:24:37precision performed by students on their days off, ensuring a final
00:24:41product that supplies more than 500 families in the area with savings of
00:24:4560% compared to the traditional market. Here I am in the
00:24:48selection process of laying
00:24:52hen eggs. In this process, we have four types of
00:24:55classifications, which are A, B, C, and
00:24:59double A. For example, C can
00:25:03weigh between 39
00:25:05and 49
00:25:08grams. Type B eggs weigh
00:25:12from 50 to 58 and in some cases
00:25:1559. Type A
00:25:17eggs weigh from
00:25:2059 to 69, and double A is
00:25:23from 69 onwards. Models like
00:25:26Valle de Veraca promote productive development in Venezuela, communal
00:25:30projects voted and prioritized directly by citizens in the National
00:25:33Popular Consultation, through more than 11,400 polling stations
00:25:37throughout the country. The experiences known in this journey
00:25:41show how communal organization articulates
00:25:44collective work,
00:25:48local needs. This process has the
00:25:52support of the State, which transfers resources to the
00:25:55communities to finance projects prioritized by the
00:25:58population itself. Social ownership and participatory
00:26:02planning propose another way of understanding
00:26:05development, one in which
00:26:09receiving answers, but participate in
00:26:12decisions and in the construction of solutions.
00:26:15The challenge is to sustain and expand these
00:26:18experiences, strengthen productive autonomy, and
00:26:22convert popular participation into real
00:26:25capacity to transform each territory, because development
00:26:29is not measured solely by the resources
00:26:32invested or the works built, but
00:26:36also by those who decide, produce and
00:26:39leading the
00:27:07courage and remain firm in moments of

00:29:22This date represents the living memory of the indigenous peoples of Latin
00:29:26America, who have faced centuries of dispossession, exclusion and
00:29:30violence, but have also resisted with... strength,
00:29:33wisdom and dignity. It is a day to honor their cultures, their
00:29:37languages, their worldviews and their struggles for land,
00:29:41justice and autonomy. To recognize their
00:29:44history is to recognize the deep root of our Latin American
00:29:47identity, woven with diversity, resilience
00:29:51and community spirit. Nu kanchi Kosaita Munaiko.
