00:01:19of Hurmos is in its final stages, after confirming the two sides have
00:01:23agreed a specific shipping route. Now Tehran says
00:01:27that, despite the agreement, the resumption of restricted shipping
00:01:31remains contingent on the US lifting its naval blockade of
00:01:35Iranian ports. now a'man which shares control
00:01:39of the straight of hormous and acts as mediator between Tehran and
00:01:43Washington has yet to publicly confirm the
00:01:47deal. all right, let's get more on this now and bring in TRT was Reza

00:01:57of today to that Iran ormand deal?

00:02:05we haven't heard any comment from Iranian officials today
00:02:09on Thursday
00:02:12of about the
00:02:13of possible progress in talks between Iran and Oman, but on
00:02:16Wednesday evening the union foreign ministry spokes person Ismail
00:02:20of bai said that the two sides are very close to
00:02:23deal and another high ranking
00:02:27official deputy foreign minister said that Tehran and Muscat
00:02:31are on the
00:02:32of verge of signing deal on the shipping routes in the straight
00:02:36of Formus, however today

00:02:39been silent and we are still
00:02:42a waiting for more details, possibly for a joint
00:02:46announcement by Tehran and Moscat

00:03:31about two to four months and after that, in the
00:03:34meantime, Iran and Oman
00:03:37in would clear the mines in the straight, and after that, after two to
00:03:41four months a permanent route in the center
00:03:45of of the straight of formus will be designated a so-called median
00:03:48lane, again that permanent route would
00:03:52also be supervised by Iran and no vessel
00:03:56can go in or come out

00:04:35on the straight of hormos, what do you think some of its demands could
00:04:39be to the
00:04:40of US?
00:04:46yes, exactly, Iranian leaders have time and again said that
00:04:50deal between Iran and
00:04:53Oman would not automatically reopen the
00:04:56straight of farm Iranian leaders say this is necessary. condition, but not
00:05:00the sufficient
00:05:02of condition, well Iranians want the United States to lift its own naval
00:05:06blockades, the neigh bloccade on Iranian coastline and ports, we
00:05:10know that Iran's economy has been under years and decades of sanctions and this
00:05:14blockade only adds to the

00:05:21Washington to stop its military threats
00:05:24and basically Iran wants the United States
00:05:28to go back and to fulfill its commitments under the Islamabad

00:05:39are over and Iran and the United States should... not
00:05:43threaten each other with military action and
00:05:46also that included release of Iranian
00:05:49assets and wavers on Iran's sanctioned oil and

00:05:57Iran wants to be made before it is
00:06:01willing to reopen the state of arms, basically Iran
00:06:04wants restoration the Islamabad memorandum

00:06:17US vice president Jeddy Vans has called Iranian officials
00:06:20extraordinarily difficult and will take a time, it will take

00:06:59us about how the US sees this uh, these
00:07:02US, excuse me, no, Iran, Oman talks
00:07:06without the US, of course, and also the deal that could come
00:07:09out.
00:07:15Well, first and foremost, Maril, I think it tells us how poor
00:07:19the preparations were for this conflict, I mean, they would have been
00:07:22advised on the makeup the Iranian leadership, uh,
00:07:26not just the leadership that's been eliminated of course, but
00:07:30the probable successes that they are known
00:07:33as tough negotiators and difficult to deal with, so that should
00:07:37not have come as a surprise to the Trump
00:07:40administration in terms. of this latest deal, the
00:07:44Americans are still waiting to see the precise detail of
00:07:48it, but of course they've said all along that this
00:07:51conflict cannot end with Iran having control over the straight
00:07:55of her moves, and early indications are that that's exactly
00:07:59what this deal will give Iran uh,
00:08:03but if the Americans can portray it somehow
00:08:07as not - living up to that scenario, then I'm sure Donald
00:08:11Trump will take that because he's... desperate to get out of this conflict, now he
00:08:15still does have a big card to play in the sense that there is that
00:08:18US naval blockade still in place, so that can
00:08:22exert further pressure on the Iranians, but the
00:08:25Americans need this uh to be resolved
00:08:29quickly uh, because it's the pressure is mounting on
00:08:32Trump and his colleagues to get it done with the mid-term elections
00:08:36rapidly approaching, and
00:08:40John, how are the US and oman looking
00:08:44at how is the US looking at these talks and
00:08:47what happens to
00:08:50how does this leave the us then
00:08:53with it's very clear as you said that oman and Iran
00:08:57will be formally uh looking after the straight of
00:09:00hormos
00:09:07well I mean as I say we have to wait for the precise detail of
00:09:11what has been agreed. "but the Americans
00:09:14cannot walk away from this conflict with Iran
00:09:18having any real influence over the straight, certainly
00:09:21not leaving it with the capacity to levy fees on
00:09:25commercial shipping. The U.S. Secretary of State in particular,
00:09:28particular Marco Rubio, has consistently said that that
00:09:32would set an unwelcome precedent across the world, because
00:09:36waterways are supposed to be completely open
00:09:40and free for commercial ship." shipping, so the
00:09:43US needs deal if there is deal being
00:09:47made that does not give Iran that sort of power,
00:09:51and then of course the next issue is the nuclear one, which of
00:09:55course was the entire premise for this war in the first
00:09:58place, can Donald Trump then sew up deal with
00:10:02Iran, which is acceptable for him, for his outlook, for
00:10:06his being able to present to the American people that this has all
00:10:09been worthwhile, because all the polling from day one and
00:10:13increasingly is showing that the American public does not think that this
00:10:17conflict has been worth it. John, thank you so much.

00:10:25what would this proposed Iran-Oman framework mean for ships
00:10:29passing through the straight of hormos? Let's take a look now at the
00:10:33key points, well under the proposal, vessels entering the straight of
00:10:36Hodmorres would be managed by Iran using the northern
00:10:40shipping lane close to Iran's coastline, and that way
00:10:44Tehran will gain a greater control over
00:10:47ships entering the Gulf and outbound
00:10:51traffic would be handled jointly by Iran. and
00:10:55Oman with ships exiting through the southern shipping lane
00:10:59near Oman's coast, while Tehran would have the ability to
00:11:02intervene if necessary, and Iran's
00:11:06faz news agency is reporting that the Iranian parliament is
00:11:10discussing introducing penalties, including fines of
00:11:14up to 20% of cargo value for violations and considering
00:11:17restrictions on US, Israeli and other
00:11:21hostile, quote hostile vessels. All
00:11:25right, let's uh stay on this, and a political advisor and
00:11:28commentator Rena Shart joins us now live from Washington DC.
00:11:32Rina, good to see you. Um, where is the US voice
00:11:36right now in these uh Iran-Oman
00:11:40talks that we're hearing about, and is Oman negotiating on
00:11:44behalf the US?
00:11:48Look, what's happening between Iran and Oman right now is less about high
00:11:51drama and more about the practical reality of who cont roles, the
00:11:55world's most important energy choke point. the straight of hormones is not just
00:11:59waterway, it's the artery for huge share of global oil and
00:12:03gas. after months of conflict, these two coastal states are
00:12:07trying to design a temporary shipping arrangement, and
00:12:11why does that matter? well, for markets, for energy prices, and for
00:12:14whether we get a or something more
00:12:18durable. and rena,
00:12:22but it it's very clear right now, as as John was... that the
00:12:25indications right now is that it is Iran and
00:12:28Oman, specifically Iran that will be managing the straight of
00:12:32Hodmus, how do you think the US will respond to
00:12:36this? I mean they've had since February and as John was saying, it
00:12:40really seems like the preparations going into this war by the US
00:12:44administration were not correct, well
00:12:46it's it's important to to
00:12:50talk between Iran and Oman, the
00:12:53understanding, that actually is, Iran and Oman
00:12:57appear close to agreeing on the coordinates of a shipping route, and reports have
00:13:01suggested a significant portion the transit would pass through Iranian
00:13:05waters with Oman involved on the other side. So we have to think
00:13:08in terms of geography, um, Teran is presenting this as a practical
00:13:12step towards managing traffic, but Iranian officials
00:13:16have been clear that even if they finalize something with
00:13:20musket, full and reliable reopening still depends
00:13:24on the United States. addressing its naval measures around
00:13:28Iranian ports, so this is progress on
00:13:30one solution, but there is a bigger
00:13:34strategic picture here that we all, and
00:13:38from geopolitical standpoint, this is about leverage and
00:13:41incentives, uh, Iran wants to convert
00:13:45wartime disruption into a more formal uh say
00:13:49over how this trade is administered, and Oman, what they want
00:13:53is stability and safe passage, is its own economy and
00:13:56coastline are directly exposed, so the US and energy
00:14:00importing countries, they also want the status quo of
00:14:04free, unimpeded transit restored and as
00:14:08quickly as possible, so those three sets of interest I
00:14:11just mentioned, those three sets of interest don't fully align yet,
00:14:15which is why we're still in this very careful conditional
00:14:19phase. Rina, thank you very much

00:14:30have killed at least 35 government troops in missile and drone
00:14:34attacks on military camps in Hadraunt and Marib. The Hufis
00:14:38say this attack is in response to an alleged military build up
00:14:42back to by neighboring Saudi Arabia. Yemen's internationally
00:14:45recognized government says it will respond to the attack fighting
00:14:49between the Huthis and the Saudi Araline government has escalated over the
00:14:53past month and this is deadliest fighting in Yemen
00:14:57since 2022, well Muhammad has
00:15:00the latest from the Yemeni
00:15:02capitals, this
00:15:05latest operation

00:20:26Hezballah's weapons. both the Lebanese and Israeli governments
00:20:30have said that they want the group disarmed, but Hazbollah is not party
00:20:34to these talks and the Lebanese government has yet to... put forth any sort
00:20:38of substinative plan, in part because Lebanese are divided on the
00:20:42issue, but this standoff leads many to believe that the talks in
00:20:46Rome will do little to affect their reality on the ground.

00:21:4616,000 Palestinian refugees and
00:21:50local media reported the Israeli army distributing leaflets
00:21:53saying a large scale raid was being carried

00:22:00occupied east Jerusalem and has the very
00:22:02latest. it's been 40, more than
00:22:0641 hours since Israel began its large scale military
00:22:10assault on the qalandia refugee camp. and now we're a
00:22:14bit further from the entrance to the camp than we were previously reporting
00:22:17earlier in the day uh because israely forces prevented
00:22:21journalists from covering, they removed them from the entire area and
00:22:25blockaded it off and they fired directly at us, stun
00:22:29grenades. the the assault is still ongoing
00:22:32with hundreds of soldiers as well as special forces, police and
00:22:36paramilitary border police
00:22:40operating inside the camp, arresting palestinians, mass
00:22:44raiding homes and the destroying contents these homes,
00:22:47vandalizing them, as we often see in the occupied west bank a
00:22:51daily basis. now there are upwards of 16,000
00:22:55people inside this camp that are under siege for
00:22:59the second day, there is no one allowed in or out with the
00:23:03with the um entrances into the camp closed off
00:23:07and there is a curfew, no one is allowed in the streets even to get anything
00:23:11eat or um or so. the Israely military has also
00:23:15prevented and obstructed the work of ambulances trying
00:23:18to evacuate the... 16 people who are injured, the
00:23:21majority them with severe physical assault, including multiple
00:23:25men in their early to late 50s, so you're talking about
00:23:29elderly people being beaten up, and what's happening is that the Israeli
00:23:33military breaks down people's home, front
00:23:35doors, barges in or storms the house with
00:23:3910 to 15 soldiers, they carry out physical assault against the
00:23:43residence, they carry out mass interrogations, over at
00:23:47least 60 people have been in... deregated so far
00:23:51and arrested according to the Palestinian prisoner
00:23:53society and it's very
00:23:57important to note two things, one this is a main
00:24:00road, it is very vital artery, as
00:24:04you can see there should be cars bumper to bumper, but the movement is
00:24:08very weak, this road ties between the north
00:24:12and the center the occupied west bank with Jerusalem and the
00:24:15south, so the fact that they are blocking the movement here means that
00:24:19they are... affecting tens of thousands of people who move through here every
00:24:23day for work, for health careare, for other their own
00:24:26businesses. addition to that, the Israeli military has been
00:24:29demolishing palestinian businesses, they've
00:24:33been carrying out demolitions of
00:24:36palestinian car washes, clothes, stores and other
00:24:40businesses here in around the
00:24:44colandia refugee camp and near the calandia military checkpoint, and
00:24:48the last note is very important to make there are no, I mean the Israeli
00:24:52military is talking about this being a military operation, but there are
00:24:55no armed elements inside these camps that are organized any way that
00:24:59would put up a front or to resist uh Israel's military
00:25:03incursion. Well, the number of
00:25:07Palestinian children being held without a charge in Israeli
00:25:10jails has nearly dobled in the space of year, the number
00:25:14rose from just over 100 in January of last year to nearly
00:25:17200 by this March. children are in what's
00:25:21called administrative detention, as Israel calls
00:25:25it. This is a policy where Israel imprisons people
00:25:28indefinitely, without trial and without presenting
00:25:31any evidence against
00:25:33them. Muhammad al-Kassim joins us
00:25:37now from occupied East Jerusalem. Mohammed, what does this sharp
00:25:41increase tell us about how Israel is using administrative detention
00:25:44against Palestinian
00:25:45children?
00:25:49Well. Maria, we're not only looking at increase the number
00:25:53of Palestinian children who are being
00:25:56arrested by Israeli army, but
00:26:00also the growing rel. by the
00:26:04Israeli authorities on this
00:26:08outdated controversial administrative
00:26:11detention, which is leftover from the days the British
00:26:15mandate, if you look at the numbers, there are
00:26:19there are starling to say the least, 103
00:26:23Palestinians were arrested or under
00:26:27administrative detention back in January of 2025,
00:26:30that number has almost double. um to
00:26:33191 by March of this year,
00:26:37and what's even more striking is the number of
00:26:41Palestinian children who have spent more
00:26:44than year in administrative detention, which has
00:26:47increased eight folds from six to 50 now,
00:26:51and again it shows the great growing reliance
00:26:55the Israeli authorities on this controversial law to
00:26:59continue not only arresting but also detaining.
00:27:02Palestinian children uh without due
00:27:05process. Mohamed, why is this policy
00:27:09so controversial and what do Israeli
00:27:11authorities at say actually justifies
00:27:14holding children without charge or
00:27:16trial?
00:27:20Well, it's the standard excuse, security
00:27:24purposes and it's controversial because Israeli authorities
00:27:28don't present any evidence publicly, everything is
00:27:31classified. and this provides this law or this
00:27:35detention process provides the Israeli authorities to
00:27:39continue renewing these detention uh
00:27:42periods for for months if not even years
00:27:46without providing the lawyers for these children with
00:27:49any charges so um
00:27:53even though um Israeli authorities claim
00:27:57security reasons for the arrest these children are never
00:28:01brought before - court where their lawyers are
00:28:04presented with any evidence or charges, so they are
00:28:08being um their do process and
00:28:12their treatment is at question now, and this is one the
00:28:16major criticism by human right
00:28:19groups against the Israeli authority, but it seems that it's
00:28:22still being practiced and even practiced a higher
00:28:26level than we've seen in recent years, Maria.
