00:00:16Saudi authorities say another projectile hits the
00:00:18a international airport in Riyadh as the hoothies claim
00:00:21of responsibility for Saturday's deadly strike on the same
00:00:23airport. Hello and welcome to TRT World Live from Istanbul,
00:00:27I'm Jafar Hasman also coming
00:00:29a up. Israel expands it so-called yellow line in
00:00:33Gaza, forcing dozens of Palestinian families to flee in the middle
00:00:36of the night. Donald Trump says Russia and Ukraine have agreed
00:00:40to halt a strikes on each other's energy infrastructure. Volodimir Zelensky welcomes
00:00:44the move. The Polish interior minister
00:00:48of says the man who threatened and planned to attack prime minister Donald Tusk has been
00:00:52arrested.
00:01:08We start in Saudi Arabia where authorities say another projectile has hit
00:01:12Riyadh's main airport causing
00:01:14of fire. The attack comes less than day after a missile strike at the same airport killed
00:01:1813 people and injured
00:01:19of more than 300 others. The hoothies have claimed responsibility for the
00:01:23attack. The militia has also warned airlines and travelers to stay
00:01:27away from Saudi airports. Basambi begins our
00:01:31coverage. Saudi Arabia has been
00:01:35hit hard, deep inside its territory. There was
00:01:39panic inside the domestic terminals of King Khalid
00:01:43of International Airport in
00:01:44of Riyadh after it was track by a missile on Saturday
00:01:47afternoon. The Saudi led military coalition
00:01:51describes
00:01:52of what happened as a war crime, vowing, decisive
00:01:55response. A projectile also landed
00:01:59near King. international airport in
00:02:02Damasmam, the saudis blame the ansar allah
00:02:05hutis from neighboring yeman for the attacks, the UN
00:02:09secretary
00:02:10a general also pointed the finger at the group.
00:02:13Antonio Guterej demanded that the attack stopped
00:02:17immediately. The Iran-backed group
00:02:21said it carried out separate strikes on Riad's main airport
00:02:25on Thursday, killing three people and damaging an
00:02:28aircraft, but haven't claimed responsibility
00:02:31me for Saturday's strike, hours before, the
00:02:35Huties had said they were
00:02:37of prepared to take reciprocal steps with Saudi
00:02:40of Arabia to keep airports, seaports and other civilian
00:02:44facilities used for humanitarian
00:02:47of purposes out
00:02:48a of the expanding confrontation. The question now is
00:02:52whether or not the US were respond to Saudi calls to join
00:02:56in, I think it's terrible.
00:03:00well you're going to find out, see, but I think it's
00:03:03in terrible. are the soudes able to defend themselves on? well, they're
00:03:07able to defend. look, the saudis are good fighters, but I think
00:03:11the attack was terrible thing. The Hithis have already put
00:03:15pressure on Saudi Arabia through
00:03:17of their control
00:03:19of of the Babel Mandab straight, through which much of Saudi Arabia's
00:03:23oil exports are
00:03:25of shipped, but in the past week, the Yemani
00:03:28government forces... backed by Saudi Arabia have
00:03:32made some progress in
00:03:34of pushing back the Hi advance. They claimed on
00:03:37Saturday to have killed more than 1,400
00:03:41huti fighters in 24 hours. The
00:03:45next move could determine not only the state of this
00:03:49conflict, but whether the
00:03:51in region again becomes engaffed in
00:03:57of war. Earlier I spoke to. President
00:04:00of the Pakistan based think tank initiate futures about whether or not Saudi Arabia is
00:04:04expected to retaliate. If you take a look
00:04:08at the statements from Al Turkey and most
00:04:11of the Saudi Milit has happened on the king Khalid international airport while 12
00:04:15of civilians are over 300 casualties of which many
00:04:18of them have been injured has taken place. It clearly suggests a major
00:04:22escalation. It shows that the whole rebels or the Saudis would like to
00:04:26call
00:04:26them be terrorists are not really inclined towards respecting international.
00:04:30humanitarian law, they actually want
00:04:32in escalate this conflict to point whereby they're sending strategic
00:04:36signals according to them, that the aviation industry
00:04:39in in Saudi Arabia and their interception capacity
00:04:43of the ballistic misiles which are actually incoming in the capital Riyadh can
00:04:46easily be exposed, so I think that Saudi Arabia is under immense
00:04:50pressure to basically, first of all look forward
00:04:54to the prospect of you know looking at the prospect of
00:04:58you know calling upon the... allies whether it's Turkey according to the Maka defense
00:05:02agreement to provide them with the necessary you could say military
00:05:06equipment and the capability and the counterdrone
00:05:09strategies which are
00:05:11in enshrined in the agreement to attack the hoothies because this is major escalation and
00:05:15as we're speaking right now, there's been another attack at the King Khalid international
00:05:19airport which has resulted in significant debris, so it clearly suggests that
00:05:23the hotis are pretty much adamant that they want to expose
00:05:26Saudi Arabia and it's ability to basically defend itself, which obviously is
00:05:30red line for the kingdom, and this is what I'm struggling to understand
00:05:34at this point in time, I understand hutis are backed by Iran, but when it comes to
00:05:38the latest escalation between the Houthis and the Saudis, are the Hutis?
00:05:42acting independently or are they getting direct
00:05:46support from Iran? well, first of all,
00:05:49it's very difficult to distinguish between Hothies as a proxy
00:05:53and
00:05:54as an independent actor. now the Hutis would claim that they are
00:05:57independently acting and retaliating against what they consider to be
00:06:01Saudi violations of international humanitarian law in
00:06:04Yemen, and obviously they responded by curtailing the Bubble
00:06:08under the Babel Mandip straight as well as ensuring that they could...
00:06:13strategically significant cities, whether it's Raad or the religious city of
00:06:17Makkah, but obviously Iran's role in this entire conflict can
00:06:21not necessarily be,
00:06:23you know, you can't dilute Iran's role, because Iran has
00:06:26historically and in contemporary times, obviously provided the hoothy rebels
00:06:30with political, economic and military support, but obviously the
00:06:33Iranian regime, I mean if you take a look at the statements on theran, they be very cautious
00:06:37in basically claiming responsibility or even
00:06:41condemming... the attacks from the huti rebels as well, so it's a
00:06:44difficult um, unless we don't have actual, we
00:06:48can't really establish whether this was winked by Iran or whether
00:06:52this was proxy warfare, classical proxy warfare,
00:06:56or whether the hoothies were actually acting independently, but what we can establish
00:07:00is that this has historically been an iran aligned
00:07:04group which has operated in the middle east and is an extremely integral part
00:07:08of Iran's so-called access of resistance which also includes the
00:07:11Iraqia. as well as hezbollah in Lebanon,
00:07:15so this is going to be very interesting to see as to whether or not
00:07:19this was an independent claim, but the Hothies have claimed quite
00:07:22unabashedly that they independently acted with regard to the Riyadh attack
00:07:26which resulted in 12 casualties, and now there is also talk
00:07:30about the US possibly attacking the hoodies, certainly
00:07:33president Donald Trump is deciding whether or not he should send his
00:07:37forces, if the US directly gets involved at this
00:07:41stage, what would it? mean for the future of this
00:07:43war? well, Donald Trump obviously,
00:07:47you know, he does want to uh brandish his credentials as a
00:07:50peacemaker, he hasn't ruled out negotiations between the two
00:07:54parties, but if the escalatory, if you take a look at his latest press
00:07:57conference, where you speaking to the journalists for that matter, it is quite clear
00:08:01that he wants these attacks to basically stop. now with this
00:08:05continuation of attacks, first was the drone which actually penetrated into the
00:08:09religious city of Mecca, then you had the King Khalid airport being attacked.
00:08:12twice the latest attack which took place today, which resulted a
00:08:16ballistic mizar resulting in debri all
00:08:19across the airport, that would ser seriously
00:08:22suggest that the US would want to make sure that some sort of military
00:08:26deployments actually do take place to defend the kingdom, but I
00:08:29thinstan as signatiries
00:08:32to the Mecca defense agreement would respond to this, because collective defense and
00:08:35ensuring that the sanctity the kingdom is respected and whether
00:08:39attack a member state results... it is actually equated
00:08:43to attack on all member states, those are the central tenents the Mecca defense
00:08:47agreement, so the United States as well as regional players and allies
00:08:51of Saudi Arabia could definitely respond in kind to this, but it if
00:08:55the hoothis continue to go ahead on this escalatory path, we
00:08:59could see increased American involvement and engagement as well
00:09:03as military deployments, but it really does depend on whether this escalation
00:09:07would increase. I don't think this is a strategic move, the Hutis would
00:09:11want to signal to the... middle east that Saudi Arabia's
00:09:14economic, you could say it's ability economically sustain itself is
00:09:18questionable, they don't have the interception capacity, they also believe that
00:09:22you know the aviation industry would also be
00:09:26subject to their own dictates, so this is more of a strategic move, but if it
00:09:30continues escalate then yes you could say you could uh
00:09:33for you, you could speculate as to whether or not American
00:09:37increase military involv, turkish foreign ministry
00:09:40has strongly condemned sat is who the attack on king Khalid international airport in
00:09:44Riyadh a statement it says these attacks which deliberately target civilian
00:09:48infrastructure and innocent civilians constitute a clear violation
00:09:52of international law and the principles of international humanitarian
00:09:55law. We emphasized that such actions which pose a threat to regional
00:09:58security and stability and undermine the international community collective efforts to
00:10:02establish peace must seize immediately. As Turkey we
00:10:06reaffirm our support for Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and
00:10:10territorial integrity.
00:10:18The Israeli military is expanding its so-called yellow line in the
00:10:22east of Gaza City, Israeli forces opened. fire and
00:10:25launched artillery shelling in shujaya injuring two palestinians including a
00:10:29pregnant woman. dozens of Palestinian families were forced to flee once again
00:10:33in search of safety following advances by Israeli
00:10:36military. locals describe it as night of
00:10:40terror filled with heavy Israeli
00:10:42gun fire and explosions. the UN said nearly two-third the
00:10:46enclave is inaccessible to Palestinians or subject to
00:10:49severe restrictions. residents of Gaza's al
00:10:53Zawaida have. acted the aftermath of an Israeli air strike, the residents said they
00:10:57were given five minutes to evacuate before bombs were dropped on the house on
00:11:01Saturday. Israel has stepped up a strikes against Palestinians in
00:11:05Gaza undermining a US broker cease fire agreed one year
00:11:09ago. currently Israel controls more than
00:11:1270% in reality, because we are
00:11:16here, we see this with our own eyes, 64%, that
00:11:19was maybe two months ago, according to to
00:11:23international agencies working and Gaza, but almost every hour,
00:11:27every day far Israeli forces are creeping further
00:11:30west. Uh, right now, more than 2
00:11:34million people in Gaza are living in less than 30% of of of
00:11:38Gaza's territory. Gaza is to be
00:11:41360 square kilometers approximately,
00:11:45and now people are living within about 100 kilometers and even the
00:11:48100 kilometers are not safe, because you have daily air
00:11:52strikes, tank fire, sniper. fire even
00:11:56random fire by machine guns, they they just open the fire
00:11:59on anything that moves, they open the fires,
00:12:03they they they move their machine guns to the western part of
00:12:07Gaza, so the majority the territory that
00:12:10Israel forces are pointing their forces that is towards the west, towards the
00:12:14Mediterranean, while in some areas like Bethladia and northern
00:12:18Gaza, they point their guns towards the south and in the
00:12:22south they point it to towards the north, It's not only that
00:12:26Jafar, even in the in the Mediterranean, Israeli
00:12:29gumboats fire on people on the coastal area where
00:12:33thousands of tents are located, tens of thousands of not hundreds
00:12:37of hundreds of thousands of children, women, elderly
00:12:41people are living in those tents, so
00:12:44far today at least six people were injured, including a pregnant
00:12:48woman, jafar in her second trimester, and
00:12:52doctors say it's they're not sure if the... able even to
00:12:55save the mother or or or
00:12:58her feetus. now already
00:13:02since the start the seifire back in October 2025 and
00:13:05already now we already passed one year since this so-called
00:13:09seifire. close to 1500 people have lost their lives, more than
00:13:13500 others injured. while earlier this morning, for
00:13:16example in eastern gaza city less than three
00:13:20kilometers from where i'm standing, if you go east
00:13:23about the kil kilometers, 3 and a half kilometers, I'll be, I'll
00:13:27be faced with a Israeli tank or a machine gun in
00:13:31front of me, of course nobody, nobody even dares to get close to that area
00:13:35where Israely soldiers are located, few hundred
00:13:39meters to the west the
00:13:42so-called to this to the east the so-called yellow line, they keep opening
00:13:46their heavy machine guns and artillery and tank
00:13:49fire towards the western parts of
00:13:53that area so... "this morning people were sleeping, although
00:13:57they're not sleeping safely within uh partially
00:14:01standing buildings uh
00:14:04damaged by Israel's war and inside makeshift
00:14:08tents, and they woke up this morning finding the
00:14:12yellow blocks moved past them, and this means
00:14:16you're a kill zone, so people panic, does family ja
00:14:20far, just ran away with whatever they can, and sometimes some
00:14:23people i've seen people."
00:14:24'who who left with nothing, because they know life is
00:14:28more important than belongings,
00:14:30jaffar.
00:14:34right, ashraf, and I understand winter is only few months away,
00:14:38so how can Palestinians, if at all prepare for the
00:14:42harsh conditions
00:14:43there?
00:14:49well, every coming, every every everything is coming against the Palestinians in
00:14:53Gaza, the weather'. "the some people say it's the
00:14:57international conspiracy of silence when it comes to Palestinians and
00:15:01now the international organization of migration IUM
00:15:04says Israel is not allowing tens of thousands of tens and
00:15:07shelter shelter supplies to enter Gaza, especially that
00:15:11elninho is approaching and its
00:15:15effects could could you know most likely will affect the
00:15:18people of Gaza and we have more in the following
00:15:21package.
00:15:26Amil harazin is a word man with what could be very harsh
00:15:30winter around the corner. He's deeply
00:15:33concerned for his family who live a tent.
00:15:38"I'm trying to secure my tent. I have newborn baby who is less than a
00:15:41week old and three young children. Last year we suffered badly when
00:15:45a storm hits, so I need to be prepared this
00:15:48time. This year the conditions could be much worse
00:15:52for the people in Gaza, already suffering due to Israel's devastating
00:15:56war on the strip. For families living in fragile
00:16:00shelters, even basic preparations may not be enough, or
00:16:04damaged homes and obliterated infrastructure. leave many
00:16:08displacement sites vulnerable to flooding as well as
00:16:11collapse, we heard that very
00:16:15powerful storm may be coming our way, it could destroy homes, let
00:16:19alone tents, we put our trust in god, my tent is
00:16:23so fragile that even a light storm could destroy it,
00:16:26imagine what this storm could do, the storm he is
00:16:30referring to is the elninu weather phenomena,
00:16:34scientists are warning about its catastrophic effects, which could
00:16:38settle firmly by December, and in Gaza, its
00:16:42repercussions could make life even worse. According to the
00:16:45International Organization for migration, IOM, around
00:16:491.8 million people are living in displacement sites
00:16:53across the wartorn territory. More than 80%
00:16:57the tents and makeshift shelters are in poor
00:17:00condition, while only 17% of winter shelter
00:17:04needs have been met. dreading
00:17:08the winter as well as the storm, the rain could flood our tents,
00:17:11leaking in from above and sweeping in from
00:17:14below. we have almost nothing to protect ourselves with. we
00:17:18lie awake at night, worried about the rain and the strong
00:17:22winds. there is no end to the suffering. with
00:17:26little protection from the rain, families fear the destruction the
00:17:30shelters and the exposure to the cold. as
00:17:34palestinians prepare to face another harsh winter, the brace themselves
00:18:08or its continued aggressive policies in our region, cuts
00:18:11explicit that threats against individuals involved in sece fire and
00:18:15peace negotiations are yet another manifestation the Israeli
00:18:19government's disregard for international law. Turkey will continue
00:18:23to defend the legitimate rights the Palestinian people, justice and
00:18:26lasting peace. The Israeli government's threats, provocations and
00:18:30ser campaigns will not deter our country from its
00:18:34steadfast commitment to upholding what is right and just.
00:18:38At least 13 people have been killed in aerial attack a gold mine in this in
00:18:42Sudan near the Egyptian border, that's according to the Sudan doctors
00:18:46network. It occurred in the very north of Sudan's river Niila estate. Egypt
00:18:50has previously carried out attacks in this area accusing Sudanese minors of border
00:18:53violations or smuggling. The neither Sudanese or Egyptian
00:18:57officials have come commented on Saturday's incident
00:19:00yet.
00:19:13Donald Trump says Russia and Ukraine have agreed to halt a strikes on each other's
00:19:17energy infrastructure. Trump made the announcement on his truth social
00:19:20platform without giving further details. It came two days after making a deal with the
00:19:24Russian president Vladimir Putin to buy large quantities of
00:19:28diesel. Earlier President Donald Trump had said it was
00:19:32time for Ukraine to get new president to which Vlodimir Zelensky
00:19:36replied it is up to
00:20:07us on TRT World, what exactly is President Donald Trump trying to do? I mean,
00:20:11President Zelinski did not have any idea about sease fire being announced
00:20:15between his country, which is a state of war, which is under attacks
00:20:19from Russia, yet President Trump announced
00:20:22it. It's not the first time President Trump
00:20:26has announced an agreement that other
00:20:30parties that are a part of any
00:20:33agreement are surprised, so we... We
00:20:37shouldn't, none of us should be surprised that because this
00:20:41is the way President Trump operates, however,
00:20:44President Zelensky and the government of Ukraine, they model all this
00:20:48out and... they knew that the
00:20:52format that President Trump announced was likely the
00:20:56format if anything could happen that the format was
00:21:00going to be in, and so what President Trump, has done
00:21:04is you say, okay, Russia has agreed to this,
00:21:08now Ukraine needs to agree, however, we've
00:21:12already had one report of a Russia
00:21:15attack in Harquive, which is
00:21:19city. near
00:21:20the the Russian border with Ukraine,
00:21:24so who who has and who has not
00:21:28gotten the memo, but there is one known and that
00:21:32is when President Trump announces these types of things,
00:21:36there's always a part two, part three and
00:21:39part four, and that's what's coming, which part do you think is
00:21:43it? the parts have been,
00:21:46somewhat floated out now, which is a... three
00:21:50part, so it's a three section where President
00:21:54Trump is reportedly prepared
00:21:57to allow the Russian Federation to move
00:22:01forward with the sale of assets of luke oil, one the largest
00:22:05companies in the Russian Federation, which has assets throughout
00:22:09Europe and the Middle East, and it's
00:22:12supposedly a transaction that would involve the UAE, and
00:22:16with some connectivity in some way to Jared.
00:22:21and
00:22:22Steve Woodkof, the negotiators. The second is with Belarus
00:22:25and that has to do with Podash, which is a
00:22:28fertilizer. The US has already lifted
00:22:32sanctions on the export of Podash, but there's a problem for
00:22:35Belarus, which is prior to
00:22:39February 24th of 2022, when Russia invaded further into
00:22:43Ukraine through Bielorus, about
00:22:4690% of that podash went through the port.
00:22:50in Lithuania, Kaipada, so it's sort of
00:22:54giving something
00:22:55that they may not really be able to do, and then
00:22:58the third is reportedly release of about hundre billion
00:23:02dollars in frozen Russian assets that are
00:23:06frozen in Europe. The challenge though, amongst
00:23:10all of this is unless the US gets buying
00:23:13from the European Union and from individual
00:23:17countries, none of this happened.
00:23:21Now John, let ask you something that I have been thinking about for the
00:23:25past few hours, and here
00:23:27it is, see, the US was supposed to protect
00:23:31Ukraine, at least this is what what was promised to the
00:23:35Ukrainians, we all know that,
00:23:37but here's the deal today, sitting American president is coming out
00:23:40and telling Zelinski, you know what, I don't like you anymore, you're not making a
00:23:44deal, you are not giving your territory to Russia,
00:23:48which is basically what... Russia demands,
00:23:52so I I I don't know, what do you think this
00:23:55means for America's reputation in the longer
00:23:58run, and if Russia is able to get
00:24:02Ukrainian territory, what kind of precedent does does it
00:24:06set? Well, reverse and the
00:24:09last first on the territory, right now the
00:24:13the real estate issue is about 20%
00:24:17of Dunetsk, which is... the Luhansk,
00:24:21Olblast, Donets, brask, these are like like
00:24:24provinces, and it makes up the Dunbas
00:24:27and the Russian Federation has been saying, we want
00:24:31that remaining 20% that we have not yet
00:24:34taken. Ukraine is saying, we're not giving you something
00:24:38that you haven't militarily taken. Uh,
00:24:41one proposal that's been around for now, nearing three years,
00:24:45is for Ukraine to move the border
00:24:49of... to where the Russian
00:24:53army is, and in that way President
00:24:57Putin can claim
00:24:58he has 100%, and Ukraine is retaining
00:25:02its territory, but not giving anything the Russia has
00:25:05taken, so you
00:25:07there is a solution, the
00:25:10challenge is you talked about, with with respect to
00:25:14reputation in the US, president Trump is a
00:25:17day-to-day guy, he's not necessarily. a
00:25:21week to week guy, a month to month guy, year to year
00:25:24guy, and so he's looking at the next two
00:25:28years, 12 o'clock, january 20th, 2029, his
00:25:32term finishes, between now and then
00:25:36he believes he is the most powerful
00:25:39individual on the planet, and that he can do what
00:25:43he wants, and eventually people will come around to
00:25:47doing what he wants, but even if they... don't do what he
00:25:51wants, he will declare victory and move to
00:25:54the next issue, and he has three
00:25:58tools: tariffs, sanctions and visa
00:26:01restrictions. that are his go to, it's sort of his go
00:26:05bag, it's his doctors bag, he opens them up and he's going to throw
00:26:09them out like doctor would throw out aspirin, and these
00:26:13countries all know this, so you've got Russia and
00:26:16Ukraine looking, okay, how do we get through the next two
00:26:20years, and you have the European Union,
00:26:23NATO, the United Nations, regional
00:26:27actors, President Erdogan and Turkia, all trying to
00:26:30figure out how... we get through the next two
00:26:34years with this guy where the the mid-term
00:26:38elections for our house and senate in our US congress or
00:26:42November the 3rd, likely the the
00:26:45Republican Party will lose the house, so the Democratic Party take
00:26:49that, unsure the Senate, but President
00:26:53Trump is going to get more angry, because then
00:26:57in the U.S. political discourse, they start talking
00:27:00about him as a lame duck, that's... going to infuriate him, so he's going to keep
00:27:04doing more, more, and we're going to see things like this where he just makes
00:27:08announcements and then he's going to coerse everybody to
00:27:12go along. the $100 billion dollars, if that is
00:27:15accurate number that he wants to give back to to
00:27:19Russia, um, the're 320 billion, that's a third of it,
00:27:22that money was seized to pay for
00:27:26the damages that you that Russia has done to Ukraine, and now
00:27:30President Trump is saying, "we want to give a third of it back to him,
00:27:34so this is this is going to get increasingly
00:27:37ugly, even if eventually there is some
00:27:41sort of a ceasefire with respect to the military component the
00:27:45war. fascinating insights, john Kavulish, it's always a pleasure
00:27:49talking to you, thanks very much for joining us here on tier 2 world, thank you
00:27:53sir. that's all for now, scoreline is coming up
00:27:56next."
