00:18:37capital Ankara. Let's bring in TRT World's diplomatic correspondent Hassan
00:18:41Abdullah, who is in Ankara right now. Hassan, you listen to the president there, tell me what
00:18:45is stood out for you
00:18:46there? Well, the
00:18:50president has touched upon a number of issues. Let's start with the
00:18:53regional situation. He's talked about how conflicts are currently
00:18:57ongoing in different parts the world, particularly in
00:19:01this region, he said that the latest Hoothi
00:19:04attack on the airport. condem that
00:19:08and he said that Turkey is working along with Pakistan in Saudi
00:19:12Arabia to institutionalize the
00:19:15mechanism that's going to ensure a collective defense
00:19:19and he said that that mechanism is then going to expand
00:19:22further. he said that anyone who engages
00:19:26in instability or acts that lead to instability the
00:19:29ultimately supporting what he called the access of
00:19:33evil. now he didn't name anyone but we know the context generally has
00:19:37been referring to Israel in such context and he's saying that such
00:19:41instability only benefits Israel, he said that Turkey is
00:19:45going to continue to play its role as an island of
00:19:48stability, and he said that Turkey will continue to work
00:19:52at different fronts, including diplomatic to try and stabilize situation in the
00:19:56region. now other than that he talked about number of domestic issues,
00:20:00for example various development projects that the government
00:20:04is continuing with, he referred to for example, the
00:20:07development the hospital in Chanle Urfa province of Turkia, he talked
00:20:11about the latest high speed rail track that
00:20:15has been developed a 229 km track. He talked about how that's
00:20:19going to have a significant impact for commercial activity as
00:20:23well as for general public transportation. He also talked
00:20:27about the various initiatives the government is taking for the development
00:20:31and capacity building the youth, including creating job opportunities
00:20:35to gain experience and also to earn a living. and
00:20:38he talked about also the latest
00:20:41controversy about the investment funds and so forth, he said that no one is
00:20:45beyond accountability and that no one is going to be spared, he said the
00:20:49government is going to to continue a transparent manner,
00:20:53investigations are continuing, he talked about the dozens of people that
00:20:57have been arrested and he said that anyone who is found
00:21:00involved any criminal activity will not be spared, and you know
00:21:04one thing that really stood out for me, hussan is when the turkish president, as you pointed
00:21:08out called Turkia an island of peace, because if you
00:21:12look at the region, it seems to me that Turkia is surrounded by
00:21:16a ring of fire, despite the turmoil unfolding in the region, despite...
00:21:20the crisis that we have seen unfold, turkey has remained
00:21:23calm and stable, so you have been covering Turkey's diplomacy for many
00:21:27years now, how do you think Turkia managed to remain calm
00:21:31and stable in this
00:21:33era?
00:21:38well, I think it's the realization in Ankara that the foreign policy
00:21:42has to be very carefully caliberated, so for example let's take the
00:21:46case the PKK terrorist organization that's responsible for more than
00:21:504000 debts over the last four decades or so, turkey has been
00:21:53closely collaborating with neighbors like
00:21:57Iraq and Iran to deal with PKK terrorist organization
00:22:01and various umbrella groups and we've seen the recent, the
00:22:04recent development where Ankara and Baghdad worked
00:22:08together for the weakening of various groups
00:22:12associated with the PKK terrorist organization, so I think there are quite a few
00:22:16initiatives uh regarding counter terrorism.
00:22:20and peace initiatives in the region that we can talk about, that's TRT
00:22:23World's diplomatic correspondent Hasan Abdullah, live for us from the Turkish Capital, Hassan,
00:22:27thank you very much indeed, and that's
00:22:31all for now, the news continues here on TRT World, do stay with
00:22:43opinions, these people are playing politics with public safety, the
00:22:47noise and the nuance, they all collide in the Nexus. "there is nothing
00:22:50benying about illegal human smuggling. We look at the story, how it's being
00:22:54told, who benefits, what others are leaving out, and why? It's
00:22:58always the elites who ask for it and the ordinary people who pay for it. We're all you need

00:23:34TRT World, when we say Jewish state, what we
00:23:38mean is the national state the Jewish people,
00:23:42but if Jews want to come here, any
00:23:45jew, they're welcome, we embrace them.
00:23:49israel as the only safe haven and protector of all
00:23:53Jews, that is, unless you're black. In 2012,
00:23:57Israeli journalist Gal Gabai set out to discover why the birth
00:24:01rates among Ethiopian immigrants had plummeted by nearly
00:24:0450% over the previous decade. What she
00:24:08ended up uncovering was a troubling web of deceat, lies
00:24:12and systematic racism against Ethiopian Jewish
00:24:15women. Gabbai's investigation revealed that Ethiopian
00:24:19woman immigrating to Israel were being injected with a
00:24:22long-acting contraceptive without their knowledge or
00:24:26consent. These injections administered every three months while
00:24:29the women were still in transit camps in Ethiopia continued after
00:24:33their arrival to Israel. Some women claimed they were threatened by
00:24:37Israeli doctors who told them they wouldn't be allowed to immigrate if
00:24:41they refused the injection, while others were simply told they were receiving
00:24:45vaccine and given no details on the side effects, even those
00:24:49who knew they were... being administered birth control say they once offered
00:24:52any other alternatives to the drug they were given and were discouraged from having
00:24:56a large family in Israel. the drug in question: depo
00:25:00provira: it's widely considered last resort contraceptive
00:25:04due to the potential consequences of its use, including bone density
00:25:08loss if it's used for more than 2 years. the
00:25:125,00 Israelis injected with Depo Privera in
00:25:152008, 57% were Ethiopian
00:25:18Jews. after a civil rights group accused Tel Aviv of
00:25:22racism, the health ministry ordered doctors not to renew
00:25:25prescriptions unless they were convinced patients understood the
00:25:28ramifications. investigation by Israel's state controller's
00:25:32office that concluded in 2015 claimed that
00:25:36Ethiopian woman were not coers into taking the shots. how the probe
00:25:40arrived at that conclusion raised many unanswered questions,
00:25:43especially since the state controller's office failed to interview any the
00:25:47woman who had received the shot addition. two Israeli health
00:25:51agencies under investigation in Ethiopia were not legally
00:25:54required to disclose any information. this apparent effort
00:25:58at curbing the growth of a population is reminiscent the U.S.
00:26:02genics programs that took place between 1929 and
00:26:061974 when over 7,600 people were
00:26:09forcibly sterilized with black women disproportionately
00:26:12affected. doctors in North Carolina performed the procedures without
00:26:16genuine informed consent from patients often misleading them into
00:26:20believing the procedure was medically necessary or required for
00:26:24welfare benefits. jews of African descent have long been the
00:26:28target of racism and discrimination in Israel. when the
00:26:311950 law of return granted every Jew the right to settle in
00:26:35Israel. Ethiopian Jews known as beta Israel were initially
00:26:39deemed ineligible. It wasn't until 1973 when they
00:26:43received formal recognition and began immigrating in
00:26:461984 through secret operations carried out by Israeli
00:26:50intelligence agency Mossad. Another point of controversy
00:26:54is the status the Falash Mura. Ethiopian Jews whose ancestors
00:26:58converted to Christianity. Although roughly 25,000 have been
00:27:01allowed to. greate, they must undergo formal conversion upon
00:27:05arrival, while thousands more languish in transit camps, some for over
00:27:0920 years, awaiting Tel Aviv's promised relocation.
00:27:13Meanwhile, in the 1990s, it was revealed that blood donations from
00:27:16Ethiopian Jews were routinely discarded over HIV
00:27:19concerns without informing the donors, sparking national
00:27:23outrage. Tel Aviv's racially biased practices towards
00:27:27Ethiopian Jews raises serious questions about its claims to be
00:27:30nation established at. refuge for exiled and persecuted
00:27:34Jews, if it selectively applies its promise of sanctuary,
00:27:38can Israel truly claim to be safe haven for all
00:27:41Jews,
