00:00:18Hello, welcome to TRT World. This
00:00:21of is the news out live with me, Hazim Sea, coming up in the next
00:00:2460 minutes, Saudi
00:00:26in Arabia promises to retaliate after
00:00:28of Ansar Allah Huti's. attacks on airports across the kingdom
00:00:32as Iran offers to mediate. Israel expands its Gaza
00:00:36occupation, displacing more Palestinians. TRT World gets
00:00:40exclusive access to the so-called yellow line. Ukrainian president
00:00:44Vuladimir Zelenski says it is increasingly
00:00:47in clear Russia does not want a US proposed energy ceasefire
00:00:50after strikes on six energy facilities. And in
00:00:54major
00:00:55in challenge to
00:00:56of India's me prime minister Narendra Modi, thousands of protesters in New Delhi.
00:01:00call on the election chief to
00:01:02of
00:01:05of quit.
00:01:10now Saudi Arabia is vowing a strong response to the recent
00:01:13Ansarullahuti attacks on Riyadh's main international airport.
00:01:17the Saudi authorities have extended the suspension of all
00:01:20a flights to and from Riyadh as the Hauti step up their attacks on the
00:01:24airport and across the kingdom. at least 14 people now have
00:01:28of been killed and more than 300 injured in the deadliest attacks so
00:01:32far on the
00:01:33of airport over the
00:01:34of
00:01:34of weekend, the event of recent weeks
00:01:38are
00:01:38of serious, of our response must be equally
00:01:42of serious, energy security cannot be
00:01:44a
00:01:45in taken for granted. for Saudi Arabia, this
00:01:49circum this circumstances have tested our
00:01:53of infrastructure, our institution, our
00:01:56people and our resilience.
00:02:00"they have also tested decision made long before the
00:02:04present
00:02:05a crisis. in Yemen, the government's
00:02:09me military says it's targeted several huti positions in That
00:02:13is, in the That is governor, which has been the scene of
00:02:16intense fighting between the two sides. The
00:02:19of hootis have released
00:02:21of footage showing Saudi backed Yemani forces being attacked in
00:02:24a Marib, and they're also warning the
00:02:26of US not to enter the war in Yemen, and they've also issued a warning to..."
00:02:30deployes of Saudi oil facilities and
00:02:33airports.
00:02:37If the
00:02:37of US becomes involved in the aggression against Yemen, we will not deliberate over the
00:02:41decision to respond, rather there will be a swift and painful response
00:02:44targeting the US and all its interests in the region, wherever we can reach
00:02:48them. We warn
00:02:50of
00:02:50of all employees and workers at Saudi oil facilities and airports to stay
00:02:53away from these sites as they have become legitimate targets for Yemen,
00:02:57particularly as the situation is heading towards
00:03:01of of
00:03:07of
00:03:09so muhammad, what's the latest you're hearing from
00:03:11of there?
00:03:20yes, we we are talk, we could talk about
00:03:24the what we are hearing from the
00:03:26of his, the are talking about the these, especially those who are um... sending
00:03:30or posting for the social network, the they say that the they
00:03:34of say they want the saudis to test uh the what what's the
00:03:38yemenis have went through 12 12 years of
00:03:42of attacks, of bombings and targeting wedding holes, targeting
00:03:45airports targeting scores targeting, the the they say
00:03:49this uh this is also a pressure on Saudi Arabia in order
00:03:53to allomees to return back to
00:03:55in negotiating table to resolve their
00:03:57of differences peacefully and also to to to benefit
00:04:01from their
00:04:02of worth the the the houties wished attacks to
00:04:05stop the experts of oil in order as
00:04:12a a pressure to to have this oil revenues
00:04:12of to be paid for all the yemenes across the country and even those
00:04:16under its
00:04:17of country under its
00:04:22of in control so far also we we could talk about
00:04:22of the the
00:04:22in leads remarks made by the leader
00:04:26in of abdul who mentioned that the they will not give up the the he describe what
00:04:30is going on on their military
00:04:32a attacks as just cause that an order to
00:04:36pressure Saudi Arabia to listen to their demands and
00:04:39of fulfill their demands so far while we are having also
00:04:42of of the saudi
00:04:43of official mentioning that they are also adam to to
00:04:46continue on their course as well as
00:04:50in to uh they are not going to let down what he mentioned
00:04:54of the the energy energy that he mentioned as that
00:04:58it's it's
00:04:59it couldn't be taken for granted as he mentioned that so
00:05:03far the these
00:05:04a the the the situation is escalating seriously and also
00:05:08dangerously especially and we are witnessing the conflict is taking place in
00:05:12Thaiz. and it's a densely populated area,
00:05:15almost according to the
00:05:18IRG's military spokes person, he mentioned
00:05:22that over 1,800 operations have been carried
00:05:26out on his positions, command and control
00:05:29centers and also departs and
00:05:32supplies, so no day passes by without the international
00:05:36recognized government mentioning that the are a full scale
00:05:40operations on the... targets and also
00:05:44launching bases, so also we are
00:05:48mentioning also the HOD military spokes person, they are also on the other
00:05:52side, also they are intensifying their attacks both inside the
00:05:55country and also outside the country, particularly
00:05:59on divinside Saudi territories, he mentioned
00:06:03later the latest of which his press he mentioned
00:06:07that they have what they have attacked, but he described is
00:06:11how the enemy... enforcements and also that they have already
00:06:14recaptured the mountain of Habashi, which is one the most
00:06:18important and strategic mountains that
00:06:21overlooks, the the main road or the main gate
00:06:24towards Babel mandab. All right,
00:06:28Muhammad
00:06:29life first there in Sana, thank
00:06:31you. Now Iran has
00:06:34offered, as we were saying, to facilitate talks between Saudi
00:06:37Arabia and the hoothis and it's also called for a political
00:06:41solution.
00:07:12influence over yemen suties, Tehran doesn't deny that
00:07:16Yemen's Hothies are its alli, Iran doesn't deny
00:07:20that it has provided yemenhooties
00:07:22with support, economic support, diplomatic support and military
00:07:26support at certain times, but teran insis that Yemen's
00:07:30Hothies make their own decisions and the decisions that
00:07:34Hutis make are not made by Tehran and
00:07:38they they make independent decisions, so
00:07:41Iran is off. bring to help, on Sunday evening, Iran's
00:07:45foreign minister Abbas Araqchi had a phone conversation with his Saudi
00:07:49counterpart Faisal bin Farhan, so despite highten tensions
00:07:52between the two countries, between Iran and Saudi Arabia, these two
00:07:56regional rivals continue to have diplomatic
00:08:00engagements at high levels, this was the first phone
00:08:03conversation between the top diplomats
00:08:06since the Yemen war started, Iran
00:08:10says that the situation. in the Arabian peninsula
00:08:14has no military solution. Tehran
00:08:18maintains that the only way to settle this is through political
00:08:22means and Iran says that it is ready to facilitate talks
00:08:25between Saudi Arabia and between Yeman Suthis. Iran
00:08:29says that war between the two countries between Yemansuthis
00:08:33and Saudi Arabia only serves Israeli interests.
00:08:37Tehran also says that road map for peace agreed by
00:08:41Yemeni waring faction back in 2022,
00:08:45that un backed road map should be the basis for
00:08:49negotiations and for diplomacy to settle this
00:08:52issue. now turkish
00:08:55president strongly condemned the
00:08:58attacks king
00:09:01khalid international airport over the weekend. he was speaking on the mecca
00:09:05joint defense agreement that was signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
00:09:09other one said the work to establish a permanent institution.
00:09:13framework is
00:09:13continuing,
00:09:18we condemn in the strongest terms the attacks carried out by
00:09:21theis on Saturday against King Khalid international airport
00:09:25in Riyadh. We ask Allah to have mercy on our brothers and
00:09:29sisters who passed away. stands with Saudi Arabia and
00:09:33its Saudi brothers in the face these unlawful and inhumane
00:09:37attacks. We're continuing our efforts to establish the
00:09:40institutional framework for the... defense agreement we signed with
00:09:44Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on August 7 and we're
00:09:47advancing our defense cooperation along two main things:
00:09:51first, we're working toward the goals of collective defense and
00:09:55regional cooperation, second, we're taking the necessary
00:09:59steps to ensure this cooperation is enshrig a
00:10:03permanent and functional institutional framework, as is the
00:10:07case with NATO, activities under the joint defense agreement
00:10:11will be conducted in accord. with our national
00:10:13legislation. we are continuing our efforts to submit the
00:10:17agreement to our grand national assembly in the coming days to complete the
00:10:21domestic process.
00:10:27now just within the last couple of minutes it is reported from
00:10:29yemensar lahutis that they have targeted
00:10:33riyadh's international airport again a new missile
00:10:37attack so as this conflict it appears
00:10:40continue continuing escalate we're going to speak now to uh
00:10:44Nawaf Obaid he is a former Saudi government advisor and a visiting
00:10:48senior fellow at King's College and he joins us uh from London to
00:10:52talk more about this thanks very much for being with us. so clearly there
00:10:56is a danger that this is escalating uh
00:10:59further even even as we do this news update, what are
00:11:03your how do you see this playing out? what are your fears about the degree to which
00:11:07this could escalate? mean the escalation is
00:11:11clear, this is a way the their only way to get
00:11:15back at Saudi Arabia and this is by attacking
00:11:18the civilian targets, what more, what more to make
00:11:22point for them is to hit um... the airport or hit
00:11:26any other civilian building to have the
00:11:30uh, to have the media, the global media attention to it, but
00:11:33ultimately it doesn't really change
00:11:36the the sequencing on the ground. this is a war
00:11:40that has to happen unfortunately, they are, as you can see by
00:11:44their actions, they are a terrorist organization that allows
00:11:48themselves to do things that are completely out of international norm.
00:11:52last week they were, they hit an an
00:11:55electric generator in Medina, so it's just more
00:11:59the same, but they've they have very, they have
00:12:03calculated well that hitting a civilian airport such
00:12:07as the one in Riad or the one in Damasmam, the King Fad
00:12:10airport would make for enough international media
00:12:14attention to generate a form of embarrassment towards the Saudi government,
00:12:18and that's exactly what they're doing. Why have the
00:12:22hooties been so hard to defeat?
00:12:26"the h have been hard to defeat because they don't play by the
00:12:29same, they don't have the same
00:12:32responsibility, they don't have the same norms. you
00:12:36is movement that doesn't have the responsibility of a
00:12:39government, it just has the responsibility to keep building its missile or or its
00:12:43drone capacity in this case, and to keep its people in poverty
00:12:47and to claim that it is doing it for divine reason,
00:12:51and being from a certain part of Yemen that's ' the
00:12:55northwestern part that's very mountainous, they unfortunately know how to
00:12:59dig in and live in caves and tunnels and what have you. now this war
00:13:03is very different from the previous one, because this war will most
00:13:06will with a high certainty will include ground forces, which has
00:13:10never been, which have never been interjected into the yemini theater
00:13:14before, and this is where the the the balance will
00:13:18shift because before it was based on yemeni ground
00:13:22forces with the saudi and alli um
00:13:26support, which is happening as we speak today, but
00:13:29going forward, this clearly is not enough, and the yemany
00:13:33factions need the support of what is
00:13:37known as a joint forces command formations coming from other
00:13:40countries, in order to be able to keep pushing upwards and
00:13:44removing the hoothies from the newly from the newly conquered
00:13:48territories and the one that they've conquered for the last
00:13:50decade, so when
00:13:54the south. uh val to respond to
00:13:58this strongly, what form do you think that's going to
00:14:01take? is it going to be as you're suggesting more more ground
00:14:05forces? so the more forcefully is on the
00:14:08immediate is what been happening so the did
00:14:11this,
00:14:14the the weeks of sequence saudi aeral
00:14:18strikes which have degraded their fundamental basis their war
00:14:22machine which are their missile.
00:14:25depots, their their missile bases, their
00:14:29drone factories that you find deep in
00:14:33under mountains in tunnels and so what you have here that you have
00:14:37realization from the part that these strikes are
00:14:41actually doing lot of damage, so a way what
00:14:44the what what they're trying to do is to respond a way where
00:14:48that will temporal or that will start decreasing the sequence air strikes both
00:14:52under main military.
00:14:55hardware base and as well as on helping
00:14:59the yemen,
00:15:03has
00:15:08this has this conflict exposed the limits of
00:15:12Saudi Arabia's ability to to use its military
00:15:16and economic power for the political outcome that it
00:15:19wants, it's
00:15:23the war itself has properly started, if the
00:15:27war starts where you have sequence war between land, air and
00:15:31sea, then the situation on the ground will be very different, like as
00:15:35I was just saying just earlier on, you you are starting to see
00:15:39the beginning of it by the reclaiming of vabel mandab and and the
00:15:43coasts around it, I mean that was key, that was in the first in
00:15:47the first few days the war they did this this
00:15:51flash attack which they took it over and
00:15:54with the new architectural command and control
00:15:58constrate they were able to take it back, but ultimately as
00:16:02coming back to your question, all the political power, all the influence, all the
00:16:06economic, all the monetary... influence of Saudi Arabia won't matter if you don't
00:16:10win it on the ground and that's what will
00:16:12happen. good to get your perspective on this
00:16:16uh now after obaid. thanks very much for being with us. thank you for
00:16:20having me. now at
00:16:24least 139 people have died after boat
00:16:27carrying migrants capsized off the coast of
00:16:31Djibooty. the boat was believed to be carrying more than 300 people on
00:16:34route to Yemen with dozens still missing. "the UN's
00:16:38migration agency described it as one the deadliest disasters on the
00:16:42eastern migration route. It used hundreds of thousands, it is used by
00:16:46hundreds of thousands of people each year to reach gulf countries,
00:16:49mostly from Ethiopia and
00:16:51Somalia.
00:16:55Israeli forces have launched a drone attack on refugee camp
00:16:59in southern Gaza, killing two Palestinians. Paramedics say
00:17:03several people were wounded in the drone attack which struck near the city of
00:17:06Rafah. refugee camp there shelters thousands of
00:17:09Palestinians who have been displaced several times in Israel's
00:17:13three-year war. more than 74 thousand Palestinians have been killed with
00:17:17a tol rising almost every
00:17:20day.
00:17:23Israel's military continues to expand its so-called yellow
00:17:26line in eastern Gaza City with more than
00:17:3065% the strip now under Israeli army
00:17:33control. that line divides Gaza into two zones an eastern a
00:17:37where Israeli forces remain deployed and prevent Palestinians from
00:17:41returning, and a western area where more than 2 million
00:17:44Palestinians have been pushed and forced to live under further
00:17:48restrictions. Abdul Wahaab Hamad reports now from
00:17:52Gaza on how people are trying to make living near the yellow
00:17:55line. I am here in one the neighborhoods
00:17:59in eastern Gaza City. This area is very close
00:18:03to the Israeli military controlled areas in Gazo.
00:18:07known as yellow line there in the background that
00:18:11whole area is under full Israeli military
00:18:14control, the yellow line determines how
00:18:18much of gaza palestinians here can actually live
00:18:21in, the problem is this line was supposed
00:18:25to stay frozen until full Israeli
00:18:28withdrawal from Gaza and until
00:18:32Donald Trump Gaza piece plan moves
00:18:35on the second. phase
00:18:38the plan uh moves on, nothing of that happened, Netanyahu has
00:18:42described the foot print as
00:18:4653% to 60% control over gaza, and
00:18:49now he is saying the next step is
00:18:5370% control over the palestinian coastal
00:18:56enclave, this is naif, he lives in
00:19:00distant and has lost his home inside the Israeli
00:19:04military controlled areas in the gaza strip, as the
00:19:07yellow line, living very close to the line
00:19:11determines how much he close and other families in
00:19:15this neighborhood close to their homes, to their schools
00:19:19inside those areas, moving the line
00:19:22on means this family has to
00:19:26move with it, bullets are
00:19:29everywhere, we feel threaten all the time, we can't even
00:19:33sleep at night because of fear, our lives are very difficult.
00:19:51you can imagine what that means for families living in
00:19:55this neighborhood? they have been displaced many
00:19:59times again and again, they set up their
00:20:03tents, settle down and suddenly
00:20:07the... told to move again,
00:20:10negotiations over Trump's Gaza peace plan, the second
00:20:14phase remains deadlocked, with
00:20:18this expansion the yellow
00:20:21line, this means that the area's Israel control is
00:20:24getting bigger with only one single
00:20:27fact, less space for Palestinians to
00:20:31live, Russia is
00:20:35continuing to attack Ukraine's. energy facilities, that's
00:20:38despite the so-called energy ceasefire declared by US
00:20:42president Donald Trump on Sunday. Russia has yet to comment on
00:20:46Trump's claim, but Ukrainian presidentim Zelensky confirmed several.
00:20:50gas facilities have been hit since his ceasefire
00:20:53announcement, in the latest attacks on residential areas,
00:20:5715 drones of hit karkiv, injuring 12 people,
00:21:00including one child. despite the continued russian strike, zelensky a
00:21:04remote address to the warsaw security forum says he is still
00:21:08open to an energy cease fire.
00:21:12this winter, if russia does not agree to an energy
00:21:16scis fire, we will respond. so
00:21:20that is why yesterday the American
00:21:24president's post drew real
00:21:27interest and really hope that the
00:21:30energy is far could actually work, we in Ukraine
00:21:34immediately supported if Russia wants us to
00:21:38stop our long range strikes against its all
00:21:42refineries and all exports then Russia
00:21:45must stop its strikes against our
00:21:49energy. system and critical
00:21:53infrastructure and stop kill our
00:21:56people. Peter
00:22:00Dickinson is in the Ukrainian capital Kiev where Trump's energy cease
00:22:04fire seems to be having little or no
00:22:06effect. Well the only major change we've seen is is
00:22:10continued Russian attacks so I'm not sure whether that constitutes a change or not
00:22:14is more more business as usual unfortunately um but certainly within hours
00:22:18of the announcement being posted. on social media by President
00:22:21Trump, we had major attack on on one the largest power
00:22:25stations in the entire country, in fact the largest in East Ukraine, I believe,
00:22:28in Harakiv, so um, there's certainly no indication at all from the Russian
00:22:32side that they have any interest in in adhering to this sees
00:22:36far, whether they even aware of it or whether they they believe that they were party to any
00:22:40negotiations, it's not clear at all, but what we can say, I think with a with a
00:22:44high degree of certainty is that they're not going, they're not adhering to it, um,
00:22:48and Ukraine has been clear, they've said President Zelensky has reiterated
00:22:51today, Ukraine is ready to adhear to a cease fire, they
00:22:54proposed cease fires themselves on on numerous occasions of this nature,
00:22:58energy seasfires, um, but if Russia doesn't um doesn't
00:23:02reciprocate, if they don't have a bilateral agreement, Ukraine will not stop its
00:23:06attacks, because these attacks are regarded by the Ukrainians as absolutely
00:23:09crucial for
00:23:10the for the war effort and for their national
00:23:11defense. A Russian foreign minister
00:23:15Sergei Lavrov has slammed Zelenski saying he does not deserve a
00:23:19cease fire. "he claims the Ukrainian leader would use the break to reconstitute
00:23:23his military
00:23:24force. I
00:23:28do not believe he has earned
00:23:29the respite, nor do I think we will once again fall for
00:23:33assurances and promises. The president has stated this very
00:23:37clearly. We continue to achieve the objectives the special military
00:23:41operation. These objectives are well known to
00:23:44everyone and have never changed, unlike the zigzags
00:23:48and shifting weams the..."
00:24:20ongoing, so Russia is essentially playing down the statements made by the
00:24:24American president, but at the same time spokesman also said that
00:24:28Moscow really favors and really welcomes all the
00:24:31efforts the American
00:24:34envoys with regards to their search of
00:24:37ways to peace in Ukraine and the negotiators Steve Whitkov
00:24:41and Jared Kushta have done a great job according to Moscow,
00:24:45so Russia is now saying that just not their efforts but
00:24:48also the person contact is something that they welcome here,
00:24:52but in contrast, there is Europe, and Moscow says that Europe does not
00:24:56want peace (cran spokesman said they are trying to encourage Ukraine to
00:25:00continue at the fighting), but at the same time Moscow is also
00:25:04saying that it remains open for the negotiated and to this
00:25:07conflict, just before Russia held the uh parliamentary elections in the
00:25:11middle of September, Moscow says it was ready for the
00:25:14resumption the negotiations, however the Ukrainian strikes that
00:25:18were intensified through... out the weekend when Russians were heading to the
00:25:22polls uh telling us according to the Kremlin very different picture that
00:25:26Ukraine is not willen so Russia now says that they can stop the
00:25:30fighting for one day when Ukrainians go to the polin stations to
00:25:34elect a new president if there is genuine desire in Kieve
00:25:37to hold the elections, however from the Russian perspective there is no
00:25:41such desire and Moscow continues to say that what Ukraine is trying
00:25:45to do is to find the loop hole,
00:25:47a pretext to end the fighting to... for at
00:25:51least some period of time that would allow Ukraine in the words of
00:25:55Russian officials to heal the
00:25:56wounds. The supreme commander
00:26:00of NATO in Europe has... also been speaking at the
00:26:04same security uh forum that we mentioned earlier in the
00:26:07Polish capital. Intelligence services have been warning Russia's
00:26:11military may be planning to test NATO's readiness in the
00:26:15coming weeks. Without mentioning Russia by name, Alexis
00:26:19Vinkovic said the alliance was ready to respond to
00:26:22any aggression. If attacked, we are
00:26:26ready to fight tonight, but we are not complacent. We will continue to
00:26:30prepare and rehearse each and every day. and we'll be more ready tomorrow
00:26:34and even more ready the day after
00:26:36that. I still to come on
00:26:40this news out. U.S. immigration officials have raided the home of Somali born
00:26:44Congresswoman Ilhan or as part of investigation
00:26:47reportedly linked to her immigration paperwork. We'll have more after the
00:26:51break.
00:26:58Okay, eyes up everybody. It's
00:27:04'the facts and opinions: these people are playing politics with
00:27:08public safety, the noise and the nuance, they all collide
00:27:11in the nexus. there is nothing denying about illegal human smuggling. we look at the
00:27:15story, how it's being told, who benefits, what others are
00:27:18leaving out and why? it's always the elites who ask for it and the ordinary
00:27:22people who pay for it. we're all you need to know, Nexus on TRT
00:27:26World. we're running out of
00:27:30miracles, we are going back to a pre-antibiotic
00:27:34world, it's a matter of how quickly we can stem the tide. The answer
00:27:38isn't a new drug, it's a predator. Every day they
00:27:41kill 40% of bacteria on our planet. They
00:27:45keep bacteria in balance, without them we would not
00:27:49be able to exist. But time is not on our
00:27:53side. We have to start now. We should have started 10 years
00:27:57ago. Meet bacteria's ancient
00:28:00enemy. Storyteller, the

00:28:15heating, the

00:28:25missing.
00:28:31Who talks
00:28:31you to hate
00:28:32your own time?
00:29:02come back to the news hour reminder now of our top stories: Saudi Arabia is vowing
00:29:06a strong response to recent Ansarullah Houti attacks on
00:29:10Riyard's main international airport. They've also extended the
00:29:13suspension of all flights to and from Riyard as the Houtis step
00:29:17up their attacks on the airport and across the
00:29:19kingdom. Israel's military continues
00:29:23to expand its so-called yellow line
00:29:26in eastern Gaza City with more than 65% the strip now
00:29:29under Israeli army control, the line divides Gaza,
00:29:33leaving more than 2 million Palestinians confined to a smaller area
00:29:37than Israeli occupied territory.
00:29:41Russia is continuing to attack Ukraine despite the so-called
00:29:45energy seace fire declared by US President Donald Trump on
00:29:49Sunday. Russia has yet to comment on Trump's claim, but Ukrainian
00:29:53president Vuladimir Zelenski told the Warsaw Security Forum several
00:29:57gas facilities have been hit since the ceasefire announcement
00:30:01as well as residential targets.
00:30:06a US immigration officials raided the home of Somali born
00:30:09congresswoman Omar in the early hours of Monday morning.
00:30:13Omar, democratic US representative of Minnesota,
00:30:17is an outspoken critic of President Trump, but she said the raid
00:30:21was an active intimidation and vowed not to be silenced.
00:30:25Investigation is allegedly related to Armar's
00:30:28immigration paperwork. North America correspondent
00:30:32John. brain uh is liferuss in Washington
00:30:35DC, so uh John, what more are we hearing at
00:30:39this point about the raid
00:30:41itself?
00:30:47Well, this appears to be the latest and certainly the most dramatic development
00:30:51in what has been a long-running investigation
00:30:54into Ilan Omar's immigration history
00:30:58and even her her overall families history, including
00:31:02claim that she married her brother to get him into the United
00:31:06States, claim she's dismissed as a disgusting
00:31:09lie, this morning FBI agents sealed off
00:31:13the road where she lives here in... washington and they were
00:31:16seen coming out of her house with various
00:31:20possessions including documents all part of
00:31:24this investigation uh now it's significant
00:31:28because in just 22 days time Ilan Omar will be
00:31:31asking the people of Minnesota uh those
00:31:35within her district to vote for her to stay in
00:31:39Congress and the protocol usually in the United States is
00:31:43that the justice department does not not carry out operations
00:31:47like this within 60 days of an
00:31:49election, even if they believe that a crime has
00:31:53been committed because they don't want to favor one
00:31:57side or the other, so obviously critics uh of
00:32:00this operation and supporters of Ilan Omar are saying that
00:32:04this is blatant election interference,
00:32:08yeah and as you say this this has certainly been a stepping up in
00:32:12this
00:32:13uh um ongoing uh um war of war if you
00:32:17like between um Ilan Omar and and President
00:32:20Trump um uh whom she is an outspoken
00:32:24critic, so what's been the reaction there to this
00:32:27development?
00:32:33well, I mean it depends on which side you're on, Trump will
00:32:37obviously welcome
00:32:39this uh, he believes that Ilan Omar is corrupt without having
00:32:42presented any specific evidence. so far, he's
00:32:46particularly angered by the Somali community
00:32:50in America in general, and particularly the Somali community
00:32:54in Minnesota, where a number of Somali
00:32:58immigrants have been investigated for a alleged
00:33:01250 million dollar fraud -
00:33:04during COVID, where money which was supposed to go
00:33:08to children and which uh the authorities have
00:33:12accused those individuals. of diverting to their
00:33:16own pockets, now Ilan Omar is
00:33:20representative of that community, and only two days
00:33:23ago Trump spoke of her coming for from a country
00:33:27of crime and squaller, and her
00:33:31antithesis to Trump is equally strong, she's part
00:33:34the so-called squad, this is a small group of democrats
00:33:38in congress, very pro-palestinian and
00:33:42anti-israeli, she was kicked off the...
00:33:44affairs committee in 2023 for her
00:33:48comments about Israel, so she's a very controversial
00:33:52figure uh, but her supporters, as I say, say
00:33:56this is all about the election, they've rejected the
00:34:00claims against her, and Ilan Omer herself says Trump's been
00:34:04after her for 10 years now, and she says she will not be
00:34:07silenced. All right, John Brain, life was there
00:34:11in Washington DC, now British.
00:34:15Minister Andy Burnham has said it is almost certain that Iran's revolutionary
00:34:19guard is behind the suspected plot targeting the
00:34:22RAF fairford airbase located north of London. The incident
00:34:26occurred last month when several white vans carrying significant amounts
00:34:30of gasoline tried to enter the the airbase
00:34:33grounds. UK had authorized the US to use Fairford
00:34:37for defensive strikes against Iran.
00:34:41I can confirm our assessment that
00:34:44it is highly likely to have been coordinated in
00:34:48Iran, almost certainly directed by Iran's
00:34:51Islamic revolutionary guard. We will not tolerate these
00:34:55threats on our soil. We will crack down on Iran's use of
00:34:59criminal networks, using our full range of powers to target them
00:35:03and their funding streams.
00:35:06Iran's ambassador denies any Iranian involvement in the
00:35:10suspected plot after being summoned over the incident. Our correspondent victoria
00:35:14inner. has more when it comes to that
00:35:18incident which took place at RAF Fairford and at the time
00:35:22it was being seen as an extremely serious
00:35:25incident. It is perhaps the most detail we have had
00:35:29so far from the British government as to who was
00:35:33behind it. What we still don't know is what evidence if
00:35:36any uh they have at the moment, what perhaps the
00:35:40motive was? We haven't had any of those details, it
00:35:44has been. It's fair to say a simply
00:35:48bizarre incident, we had of course there are a number of suspicious
00:35:52vehicles, we had seven people in total
00:35:56arrested, um, many them, some them on explosives and
00:35:59others on terror charges, um, they were later released on
00:36:03bail, no explosives, no suspected terror plot um was
00:36:07found, we had interventions from the US president that
00:36:10said
00:36:11he wouldn't have released them given what they... but
00:36:15from the UK in the last few weeks or so since that incident at the end of
00:36:19September, we have had not many details at all. police
00:36:23said just last week that the investigation was moving along well
00:36:27and that the... public uh should be patient when it came
00:36:31to the reasons behind it, and then of course we had after a
00:36:34period um of pause in the British parliament for conference
00:36:38season, this intervention by the prime minister Andy Burnham in
00:36:42which he said that it is highly likely that this was
00:36:45coordinated by in Iran and highly likely by the
00:36:49Islamic Revolution
00:36:51regard, Russia is
00:36:54continuing to attack Ukraine's energy facility. That's despite the so-called
00:36:58energy seaspire declared by US president Donald Trump on
00:37:02Sunday. Russia has yet to comment on Trump's claim, but Ukrainian
00:37:06president Vuladimir Zelensky confirmed several gas
00:37:09facilities were hit since the announcement. In the latest attacks on
00:37:13residential areas, 15 drones were hit in Karkiv, injuring
00:37:1712 people, including one child. Despite the continued
00:37:21Russian strike, Zelensky a remote address to the Warsaur
00:37:24Security Forum says he is still open to energy
00:37:28cefire: this winter, if Russia
00:37:31does not agree to an energy fire, we will
00:37:35respond, so that is why
00:37:39yesterday the American president's post
00:37:43drew real interest and real hope
00:37:47that the energy could actually work, we in
00:37:51Ukrain immediately supported, if Russia wants us
00:37:55to stop our long range. against its
00:37:59oil refineries and oil exports, then Russia
00:38:02must stop its strikes against our
00:38:06energy system and
00:38:09critical infrastructure and stop kill
00:38:13our people. Let's talk more about
00:38:17this now with Thomas W. Donald and energy and
00:38:21geopolitic strategists specializing in global oil markets,
00:38:24energy security and the geopolitical impact. of
00:38:28international conflicts, he was also a guest speaker at that
00:38:31warsaw security forum and joins us from there. thanks very much for
00:38:35being with us. so let ask you first off uh president
00:38:39Trump blaming Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil
00:38:42refineries, but isn't this more down to the
00:38:46war in Iran that he started and his attempts to address the
00:38:50public anger back in the US over the high gas prices the
00:38:53pump, so close to those mid-term elections that are coming up.
00:38:57"there's a lot in your question, so let me take a pieces:
00:39:01clearly this has something to do with the upcoming elections, the high
00:39:05cost of diesel and gas and so forth, after being one of his main
00:39:09campaign promises from way back, this is issue for him, he wants to get
00:39:12it down. he's got to know, he's just got to ask the secretary
00:39:16of of energy, Chris Wright or anybody else in his cabinet, this is
00:39:20not going to bring diesel prices down before the elections,
00:39:24so in so far as is that it's theater, now..." on the other
00:39:28hand, as you say, look, the
00:39:31attacks on Russian refineries, the truth the matter
00:39:35is, Ukraine tried this over year ago, and it went fairly well in
00:39:39the Biden administration, and year ago August, it was the American
00:39:43CIA and intelligence in Ukraine that proposed
00:39:47to the Ukrainians the campaign, and they okayed it with Trump, and Trump
00:39:50supported the campaign, and the campaign has been very successful in
00:39:54making it difficult for the Russians to wage the war and pay for. the war
00:39:58now the main problem with the diesel you're right is that horm is not
00:40:02fully back up to speed, it's coming back up to speed, more
00:40:06diesel is coming out, the price is coming down,
00:40:09so
00:40:10it is this to do with that, but there's something else, there's other things
00:40:13going to a larger game that trump is playing, i
00:40:17believe, so
00:40:21Ukraine
00:40:22has has argued that the Russian oil facilities are essential
00:40:26to weakening. ability to finance is war
00:40:29this war as you've been saying, how effective has this strategy
00:40:33been and could trump's pressure to hold
00:40:36these attacks undermine Ukraine's
00:40:39position? of course it could undermine Ukraine's
00:40:43position, the United States can put lot of nasty pressure on, and you
00:40:46remember his first administration, he was very, very nasty when it was had to
00:40:50do with elections with Biden, so we don't know how far he'll go,
00:40:54but the shut down diesel and...
00:40:57gasoline in Russia, like they've been doing, hitting so many
00:41:01refineries so effectively, makes it very difficult for Russia
00:41:05to have enough these things for its own population, so the
00:41:09population feels the lines at the gas station, the farmers
00:41:13see that there's not enough diesel that Putin is not in control like he
00:41:16says, they don't have enough diesel for their for their farms and prices are
00:41:20high, and diesel is one the main things that wars eat up, so he
00:41:24needs it for the front, Mr. Putin does, so it's very effective.
00:41:27but more so than that, as they develop this
00:41:31campaign against the refineries and get heavier
00:41:35weapons that they can hit ports, they could stop all exports from
00:41:39Russia and... and Russia in the winter time, literally the
00:41:42pipelines would back up to West Siberia, those old fields would freeze
00:41:46up, they could destroy Russia as a petro state, which is
00:41:50exactly what the US Senate and House wanted to do with
00:41:54this bill that was recently passed, the Lindsay Grand Bill, bone breaking
00:41:58sanctions, suddenly Trump goes against this, and we're
00:42:02trying to guess what his game is, clearly to do with elections, but there's
00:42:05other things, he threatened many other things over the last month or
00:42:09two. starting from September, he was telling the Europeans we
00:42:13just found out at when he was at the general assembly, he was telling the
00:42:17other Europeans they had to give back Russia's money that's in that they've
00:42:21frozen in Europe, which is amazing,
00:42:23you know, and he's saying I'll restart the North stream one and two pipeline
00:42:27and fix it, and the Americans will buy it and help Putin, all these
00:42:31things that he tried months ago when he first came in power,
00:42:34enticements economic enticements to Putin that didn't work, everybody in his
00:42:38cabinet knows it didn't, work, that's why they change their strategy and
00:42:42inflicted pain on him, so why is he going back to this? what's his
00:42:45game? it it seems quite
00:42:48desperate. you're attending the warsaw
00:42:52security forum there where European leaders have expressed
00:42:55concerns about Washington's changing
00:42:58approach to Russia. what are you hearing from people there that you
00:43:02spoken to perhaps about the implications for
00:43:06European energy security and the wider western?
00:43:10strategy towards Ukraine? Let let me just say, I
00:43:14think the situation in Europe is more mature, and there's a
00:43:17number there's a number of people from the senate
00:43:21and the head the senate armed forces committee is here, was
00:43:24republican and and democratics
00:43:27also, and when Trump did this sort of thing against
00:43:31Zelinsky year, two years, three years ago, there is much more
00:43:34emotionalism, I would say, outburs, it's much more sober
00:43:38now, much more analytical. "and one thing people are saying, which I've
00:43:42said also, I think
00:43:43is true, his
00:43:45plan won't work, the Russians would have to have
00:43:48weeks without being hit by the Ukrainians, repair the
00:43:51refineries, take weeks to build up diesel and start exporting
00:43:55it, it's well after the American elections, so it can't be about that, and
00:43:59Trump knows this, so um, the
00:44:03Ukrainians also will not stop hitting these refineries if
00:44:07Russia doesn't stop hitting their power plant." they want, they
00:44:11agreed, Trump pressured them, and they said fine, Zelinsky said, fine, we'll
00:44:15have an energy truth, but today Lavrof four
00:44:19or five hours ago was on the news and said, the Ukrainians don't
00:44:22deserve to have a truth, we'll take these, we'll take
00:44:26the diesel deal, but we're not going to stop hitting their stuff, well that's not going to work,
00:44:30Ukrainians will keep hitting the refineries, so it's it's simply something it's
00:44:34not going to work, and the the Americans that were here
00:44:38from the Congress and local officials are much more sober
00:44:42about this, that this is unseemly what Trump is doing, perhaps
00:44:45illegal, and it's just not going to work and we we're not going to go along with
00:44:49it. good to talk to you, Thomas Donald
00:44:53joining us there from uh Warsaw, thanks for your perspective, thank
00:44:57you sir. now in France, hundreds of
00:45:00supermarkets were hit by an unprecedented cyber attack
00:45:04that heated fridges and freezers up to 50 degrees
00:45:08celsius, fires. and large-scale food damage thought to be worth
00:45:12millions of dollars has been reported and some the country's biggest supermarket
00:45:16chains were hit including carfour which said
00:45:1980 of its stores were affected. Peter allen
00:45:23is live from Paris with uh
00:45:26more uh on this um Peter I got to tell you lot of us we're
00:45:30pretty shocked at hearing uh this news, it's it's it's almost
00:45:34bizarre a way that uh that that
00:45:37that there's a technology that's capable of doing this. what's been the
00:45:41reaction there? what what are we hearing more about
00:45:42this? well, you're
00:45:46quite right, it's an absolutely extraordinary event,
00:45:50something that has captured the imagination the French
00:45:53consumer, and of course very negative way. i've
00:45:57just been getting lot of technical details about what
00:46:01happened through one the large supermarkets
00:46:04affected, and what actually happened was that
00:46:07hackers managed to get through to an old
00:46:11software program which um
00:46:14affected around
00:46:17400 supermarkets, that's a significant
00:46:20num number, yes there are 15,00 odd supermarkets across
00:46:24France, but 400, including many here in
00:46:28central Paris being hit in this way is of course
00:46:32um something of huge concern. what I'm hearing is that it was
00:46:36a Danish company called Danny Foss.
00:46:40which was regulating these temperatures independently,
00:46:43remotely from outside the supermarkets, and their old
00:46:47software, they are arguing, was
00:46:51affected by these... hackers, they are saying they accusing the
00:46:54supermarket of not updating their software to prevent an
00:46:58attack like this. they're saying it's
00:47:00a security problem. they told the supermarket how to deal with
00:47:04it because they feared attack like this, but the attack
00:47:07happened on Sunday. lot of managers came in on Monday
00:47:11morning and they found anything up to half their stock completely
00:47:14ruined, millions of dollars worth of food
00:47:18ruined. of course, food security is huge issue for
00:47:22any... uh modern society, any ancient society as well, but
00:47:25particularly now when you have um uh
00:47:28fridges and freezers and the like which is so vulnerable to
00:47:32attack, these were vulnerable to attack and the hackers managed to get
00:47:36in, a prosecution has been launch, prosecutors are
00:47:39trying to find out who is behind all that, there is already
00:47:43suspicion that russians might uh be behind it, whenever there's a
00:47:47hacking incident here in France, they always blame the Russians, but of course they need the
00:47:51evidence to... move it, but huge huge concern here at the
00:47:54moment. so what are, and I know it's early days, but what
00:47:58are the supermarkets doing about this? obviously consumers are going to be a bit
00:48:02freaked out by this, what, what reassurances can they have that
00:48:06this this won't happen
00:48:07again? well, what
00:48:11this supermarket effectively doing is saying that they are going to improve their
00:48:15software, it's a simple as that in the short term, in the long term
00:48:18they'll have to look at other systems that might be vulnerable to attack, but far
00:48:22as these remote uh controllers their
00:48:26refrigerators are concerned, again it's this particular company that
00:48:30keeps coming up called Danny Foss, it's a Danish company, they have
00:48:34said they have the power to improve security to completely stop these
00:48:37attacks, all that the supermarkets have to do is update their
00:48:40software and things should be all right, so if
00:48:44anything it's a cold lesson, literally a cold lesson, I excuse the pun, I didn't mean
00:48:48it there, but um it is huge lesson for the supermarket, one that
00:48:52they... to learn from, and uh, again, this software company
00:48:56says it has learned from it, it will be taking uh
00:48:59measures to uh, cancel out this possible
00:49:03hacking, and food security will continue to be
00:49:07of huge concern here in France hazim, don't
00:49:11mind the puns at all, Peter, we love them, thanks very much for that update, Peter allen
00:49:14in Paris,
00:49:18now thousands of people have marched towards India's
00:49:22supreme. court as widespread protests over alleged
00:49:25electoral fraud continued to rock the country, opposition parties and
00:49:29supporters the youth-led cockroach janta movement had been on
00:49:33the streets almost daily this month. mhammed haji
00:49:36reports.
00:49:41it could be one the biggest political challenges India's government has
00:49:45faced in more than decade as new week brought a fresh wave
00:49:49of unrest. Security
00:49:53measures described as fortress like in New Delhi, once
00:49:56again thousands of people marched through its
00:49:59streets. Leading them in the front
00:50:03left seat the bus and fresh from his own detention was opposition
00:50:07leader Rahul Gandhi, and people are seeing the Narendra
00:50:11Modi is blocking the whole town.
00:50:13He is putting 30,000, 40,000 police offices outside,
00:50:17for what? Until the constitution is upheld, until the election
00:50:21commissioner resigned. until the election system is
00:50:24revamped, until India gets justice, the youth
00:50:28of this country won't stop, do whatever you
00:50:31want. This march was headed to the
00:50:35Supreme Court to submit a petition calling for his
00:50:38impeachments. He is guilty, they say,
00:50:42of electoral fraud. Today everything is
00:50:46in their hands. They have taken control of everything and we're out on the
00:50:50streets fighting for those rights. for that voice, for the
00:50:54voice the people. protesters have
00:50:58been out almost daily this month. over the past
00:51:01three though, they say police have become more
00:51:05heavy-handed. thousands of people were
00:51:08detained. they've also been blocked from the city's
00:51:11biggest protest sites. they're now calling on the government to let
00:51:15them in, and if it doesn't. if you don't give us
00:51:19date in the next 24 hours, then we will... be compelled to give another
00:51:23call for a protest and will have no choice but to hit the
00:51:27streets. the electoral commission has denied
00:51:31favoring any party with the changes, saying deleted voters can
00:51:34reapply, while the ruling party has accused the
00:51:38opposition of trying to destabilize India and seize
00:51:41power. it is the prime minister silence though, that
00:51:45many find defening. all while protesters
00:51:49vow to raise their voices even louder.
00:52:01A state of emergency has been declared in parts of Pakistan.
00:52:05protest there in support the jailed former prime minister Imran
00:52:09Khan, police fired warning shots at demonstrators in
00:52:12kaibaa a northwestern province, governed by the
00:52:16PTI, that's the party of Imran Khan. The state of emergency
00:52:20ruling brings the province under direct federal control. Prime
00:52:24Minister Shahbas Sharif accused the local PTI government of failing
00:52:28to maintain law and order. From Islamabad, Kamran Yusuf
00:52:31tells us if the declaration the state of emergency. in the
00:52:35northern province affects the capital
00:52:39Pakistan Tahike Insaf a party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan who is
00:52:42currently in jail, they are angry, they have termed it a
00:52:46black day when the federal government imposed emergency and
00:52:50governor's rule, but on the ground situation in
00:52:54Islamabad very much normal, you may see just
00:52:58behind a shipping containers blocking one the roads
00:53:01leading to the key government installations, but these... containers have been
00:53:05placed for the last couple of weeks in anticipation
00:53:09of opposition's protest, but now we are getting reports that
00:53:13authorities have decided to remove all these containers
00:53:17and other security measures, this means that
00:53:20authorities no longer anticipate or expect
00:53:24that the protests may reach Islamabad. the reason
00:53:27is after the imposition of emergency and governor's
00:53:31rule, authorities have detained hundreds of
00:53:35PTI activist leaders including now the
00:53:39suspended chief minister the province who according to the police
00:53:43is under protective custody in Pishawar the provincial
00:53:46capital uh there are reports that there is less
00:53:50than usual traffic schools both the government and the
00:53:53private are currently shut and this
00:53:57morning the newly appointed council led by the
00:54:00governor presided over a meeting to decide how to
00:54:05move forward, so a political temperature may be high, but as
00:54:09far as the situation on the ground in the capital is concerned, that is
00:54:12pretty much normal. Bangladesh is
00:54:16preparing to bring its first nuclear power plant
00:54:20online, hoping ease the persistent electricity
00:54:23shortages. The Russian-built project has brought jobs and investment, but
00:54:27years of delays and concerns among some nearby
00:54:31residents have tempered expectations. Unis demolu reports.
00:54:38Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant has yet to generate
00:54:41electricity, but in this nearby classroom, it's
00:54:45already sparking ambitions. My friends and I want
00:54:49to become scientists, and we hope to work at the plant after graduating in
00:54:52nuclear engineering. The $13 billion dollar project
00:54:56promises a major new reliable source of electricity for a country
00:55:00reliant on fossil fuels and struggling with frequent power cuts.
00:55:04Once operational, its two reactors are expected to meet more than
00:55:0710% of national electricity demand, a significant input
00:55:11for a country of almost 180 million people. plant
00:55:15management says the first reactor is scheduled to start up by the end of this
00:55:19year, built with Russia state nuclear company Rosatom, the
00:55:22project has brought thousands of Russian workers and new business to the area,
00:55:26but the pandemic and sanctions on Russia have contributed to delays
00:55:30and for some neighbors, anticipation is being tempered by
00:55:33concern.
00:55:34how much?
00:56:05"I hope we get electricity for 24 hours without interruption as the
00:56:09plant is near my home. For Bangladesh, the promise extends well
00:56:13beyond Rupur. Reliable electricity can keep factories running,
00:56:17farms irrigated and homes lit. After years of delays, the
00:56:20country is waiting for that to become part the reality of everyday
