00:00:09There is no end insight to fighting between Saudi Arabia and the
00:00:13Yemen-based hoothies. Hello, welcome to
00:00:17TRT World
00:00:18of Live from Istanbul, with me John Paul Davis, also ahead on the
00:00:21program, I Mohammed reporting from the negative in
00:00:25southern Israel where 400 residents have been left homeless and
00:00:2980 home. demolished by Israeli authorities.
00:00:33Amid rising criticism over their actions, US Homeland
00:00:36security raised the house of Somali-born Muslim
00:00:39congresswoman, Ilhan Omar, and
00:00:43Bangladesh is making history as it prepares to bring its
00:00:47of first nuclear power plant into
00:00:49service.
00:01:03Yemen's ancerollahuthis say they have launched a fresh
00:01:06attack targeting riad international airport and the base in the
00:01:10south
00:01:10of the country in the past few hours. Saudi Arabia has confirmed that
00:01:14Kames Mushat base was targeted, but says the danger has
00:01:18now passed. Saudi Arabia has vowed a strong response to recent
00:01:22hoothiy attacks its capitals main
00:01:25of international airport. It has also extended the suspension of all
00:01:28flights to and from at as the hooties step their
00:01:32attacks up, well over the weekend, at least 14 people
00:01:35died, more than 300 as well were injured in the deadliest
00:01:39attack so far on Riyad's international
00:01:42airport, the event of recent
00:01:45weeks are serious, our response must be
00:01:49equally serious, energy security cannot be
00:01:53taken for granted, for Saudi
00:01:57of Arabia, this circum
00:01:58this circumstances have test our
00:02:01of infrastructure, our institution, our
00:02:04people and our
00:02:09of a resilience. We have also tested decision made long before the
00:02:12present
00:02:13crisis. Well, yemen's
00:02:17a military says it has targeted several hoothy positions ties
00:02:21governor, which has been the scene of intense fighting between the two
00:02:25sides. There's
00:02:26of also a been heavy fighting in Marib with Yemeny government forces. releasing
00:02:30of footage that it says shows hoothi positions being targeted,
00:02:34meanwile the hoothies have warned the US not to enter the war in Yemen
00:02:38and have told employees to stay away from Saudi oil
00:02:41facilities and
00:02:43airports.
00:02:47If the US becomes involved in the aggression against Yemen, we will not deliberate over
00:02:50the decision to respond, rather there will be a swift and painful response
00:02:54targeting the US and all its interests in the region, wherever we can reach
00:02:58them. We warn all employees and workers at Saudi oil facilities and
00:03:02airports to stay away from these sites, as they have become legitimate
00:03:06targets for Yemen, particularly as the
00:03:09in of situation is heading towards a full scale escalation, well Iran has
00:03:13offered to facilitate talks between Saudi Arabia and the
00:03:16Huthies, it has also called for a political solution to the
00:03:21of conflict, the eminition should
00:03:25have been
00:03:25in resolved a long time ago through the same agreement reached between the Yemenes and Saudi
00:03:29Arabia. You know that road map had been agreed upon between Yemen
00:03:32of and Saudi Arabia, and we had also stressed that we support the
00:03:36implementation of whatever understanding had been reached between
00:03:39them. Well, Paul Ingram is a research affiliate at
00:03:43the University of Cambridge's center for the study of existential
00:03:46risk. He
00:03:47of says Saudi Arabia should listen to Iran because Tehran has some
00:03:51influence over the House. He argues that talks are increasingly
00:03:55necessary as the confrontation becomes more
00:03:58dangerous. "the Iranians are offering the hand
00:04:02of negotiations, the Israelis uh, who have been
00:04:05a significant force of disruption in the
00:04:08region,
00:04:09a uh, the Saudis are definitely caught between rock and a hard
00:04:13place here, but um, but they would do well to
00:04:16- to listen to the Iranians, because of course the Iranians do have some
00:04:21of influence over the hoothies and and the hoothies are are
00:04:25escalating - as we speak, and uh, Riyad Airport
00:04:29is under..." attack so so I think I think that we
00:04:33do need talk uh because uh the depth
00:04:37of the confrontations uh the traps
00:04:40that all these countries seem to find themselves in and the
00:04:44mentality which seems
00:04:46of to be only one direction um escalate uh because
00:04:49the alternative is capitulation uh is is
00:04:53getting sizably dangerous
00:04:56and and and
00:04:58it is very concerning for those of us looking at these escalation
00:05:02pathways moving in directions that uh that
00:05:06well things are already out of control geographically i
00:05:09think it's it's already spreading. 'I mean we have
00:05:13ev even the British government claiming that the uh
00:05:17that the Iranians are planning attacks within the UK
00:05:21uh we have other governments who are supporting the
00:05:25UK in making these accusations and and why
00:05:29wouldn't it um because uh the uh the British
00:05:32are hosting American armed forces making attacks on
00:05:36Iran so um so the so uh
00:05:40it's it cannot be contained'. Uh, it needs to be
00:05:43negotiated upon, the dangers are are are
00:05:47significant, at the moment you have managed,
00:05:51you have seen the Hothies manage to deter the US from entering
00:05:54that particular confrontation between the Houties and the
00:05:57Saudis. Well, Turkish President Recep Tayp
00:06:01Erdogan has strongly condemned the hoothi attacks on Riyad,
00:06:05King Khalid International Airport, speaking about the Mecca joint
00:06:09defense agreement signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
00:06:20We condemn in the strongest terms the attacks carried out by
00:06:24the Hufis on Saturday against King Khalid International
00:06:27Airport in Riyad. We ask Allah to have mercy on our brothers
00:06:31and sisters who passed away. stands with Saudi Arabia
00:06:35and its Saudi Brothers in the face these unlawful and inhumane
00:06:39attacks. We're continuing our efforts to... established the
00:06:43institutional framework for the joint defense agreement we signed with
00:06:47Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on August 7 and we're
00:06:50advancing our defense cooperation along two main things:
00:06:54first, we're working toward the goals of collective defense and
00:06:58regional cooperation. second, we're taking the necessary
00:07:02steps to ensure this cooperation is enshrined in a
00:07:06permanent and functional institutional framework, as is the
00:07:09case with NATO, activities under the joint. defense agreement
00:07:13will be conducted in accordance with our national
00:07:16legislation. We are continuing our efforts to submit the
00:07:20agreement to our grand national assembly in the coming days to complete the
00:07:24domestic ratification process. An
00:07:27Israeli drone attack has targeted refugee camp in the south of
00:07:31Gaza, killing at least two Palestinians. Paramedics say
00:07:35several people will wounded in the strike on the camp near Raffa, which is
00:07:39home to thousands of Palestinians who have been displaced. multiple times
00:07:43through Israel's three-year war, well the Israeli unslaught
00:07:46continues despite the ceasefire agreed last October,
00:07:50more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed
00:07:54since that cease fire took
00:07:56effect. Israel has
00:08:00meanwhile expanded its presence across the enclave, especially
00:08:03around the so-called yellow line buffer zone. tiat
00:08:07will Abdul Wahab Hamad travel to one of such
00:08:11areas and now on why palestinians living with their
00:08:14families are terrified seeing the Israelis closing
00:08:18in. i am here in one the neighborhoods in
00:08:22eastern gaza city.
00:08:24this area is very close to
00:08:26the Israeli military controlled areas in gaza known
00:08:30as yellow line there in the background that
00:08:33whole area is under full Israeli military
00:08:36control. the yellow line determines how
00:08:40much of gaza palestinian. here can actually live
00:08:43in. The problem is this line was
00:08:47supposed to stay frozen until full Israeli
00:08:51withdrawal from Gaza and until
00:08:54Donald Trump Gaza piece plan moves
00:08:58on, the second phase the plan uh moves
00:09:02on, nothing of that happened. Netanyahu has described
00:09:06the foot print as 53% to
00:09:0960% control over Gaza and now... He is
00:09:13saying, the next step is 70%
00:09:16control over the Palestinian coastal enclave. This is
00:09:20naif, he lives in distant and has
00:09:24lost his home inside the Israeli military controlled
00:09:27areas in the Gaza strip known as the yellow
00:09:30line. Living very close to the line
00:09:34determines how much he close and other families in
00:09:37this neighborhood close to their homes, to their schools
00:09:41inside. areas uh, moving the
00:09:44line on means this family
00:09:48has to move with it, bullets are
00:09:52everywhere, we feel threatened all the time, we can't even
00:09:56sleep at night because of fear, our lives are very
00:09:58difficult,
00:10:02by straight gun fire
00:10:04was injured near the yellow line, the bullet is still lached in my
00:10:07head, i'm in lot of pain and i'm still suffering
00:10:11from the injury. You can imagine
00:10:15what that means for families living in this
00:10:18neighborhood, they have been displaced many
00:10:21times again and again they set up. their
00:10:25tens setle down and suddenly
00:10:29they're told to move again.
00:10:33negotiations over Trump's gaza peace plan, the second
00:10:37phase remains deadlocked
00:10:40with this expansion the yellow
00:10:43line, this means that the areas Israel control is getting
00:10:47bigger with only one single fact, less
00:10:51space for Palestinians to live.
00:10:55while continuing its attacks on Palestinian heritage, land and
00:10:59property, Israel has been demolishing scores of Palestinian families
00:11:03homes in the Negev desert region. Our correspondent Mohammed
00:11:07Al-Kassim now reports from that area. And
00:11:11the demolition and uprooting forcefully displacing
00:11:14Palestinians is not exclusive only to the Gaza Strip which
00:11:18is only few kilometers away from here or even to the
00:11:22north of us in the occupied Wis Pank and occupied east
00:11:25Jerusalem, even Palestinian Bedwins in this
00:11:29unrecognized village, one among dozens in the southern part of
00:11:33Israel in the negav,
00:11:34this adhiah village, which Palestinian Bedwins
00:11:38today say that there was a massacre carried out by
00:11:41Israeli forces, massacre of homes, at
00:11:45least 80 homes were destroyed as well as
00:11:49structures this morning, hundreds of
00:11:52Israeli police officers and board. police
00:11:56raided this village,
00:11:59demolishing 80 homes belonging to about
00:12:0380 families in the process
00:12:05displacing, making 400
00:12:09people homeless, displacing them,
00:12:12destroying everything, even the only mask
00:12:16in this village was not spared,
00:12:20you're looking at the rubbles the only mosque in the
00:12:23village, lead that was destroyed and by the
00:12:27way, they started with the mask and then
00:12:31went to every single building or
00:12:35home or structure belonging to one family, the
00:12:38excuse from the Israeli government that those homes
00:12:42were built without a permit, something that is
00:12:45absolutely or near impossible for Palestinians in
00:12:49occupied east jerusalem and also in Israel,
00:12:53those are citizens of Israel that cannot really
00:12:57obtain these building pyramids, now
00:13:00you have 400 people who have become homeless,
00:13:04however, despite this state of
00:13:07misery that they are living in, and as you can see even praying
00:13:11outside,
00:13:12we just passed few children who were playing football
00:13:16outside, studying, trying to maybe focus and
00:13:19concentrate on studying, peoples belonging from
00:13:22mattresses to beds, to
00:13:26electronics, refrigerations, tvs and so forth are
00:13:30now outside with winter approaching fastly, even the few
00:13:34olive trees that were here in
00:13:38this village were uprooted also, nothing was
00:13:42spared as you can see around, so the process going on,
00:13:45380,000 palestinian bedins live
00:13:49in southern Israel in the negav nearly
00:13:5380,000 live in unrecognized villages
00:13:56and Israel led by
00:14:00prime minister Netanyahu and far right national security
00:14:04minister who is leading the campaign to destroy these
00:14:08homes in the negav boosting about his
00:14:11actions saying that he will not rest until
00:14:15every single building in the negav belonging to a Palestinian
00:14:19Beduon is demolished they're using this
00:14:22destruction in the neg of. in their
00:14:25campaign, pretty much the same as the case
00:14:29with finance minister Betsalismotric and Etummar Bing Vir and
00:14:32others who are using expanding illegal settlements and building
00:14:36new settlements and increasing the number of settlers and supporting
00:14:40illegal settlers with their increased violence and
00:14:44aggression in their campaign. Palestinians are saying the
00:14:47same is taking place here, and even
00:14:51though they are Palestinian citizens of Israel,
00:14:55didn't really matter for the Israeli authorities, hundreds of police
00:14:58officers, several bulldosers came early this
00:15:02morning and destroyed nearly 80 homes belonging again
00:15:06to about 80 families, displacing, making 400
00:15:09people, homeless, many them children and
00:15:11women.
00:15:17US immigration officials have raided the home of Somali born
00:15:21congresswoman Ilan Omar in the early hours of month.
00:15:25Well Omar is democratic congress woman representing Minnesota
00:15:29and an outspoken critic of US president Donald Trump. She
00:15:33described the raid as an act of intimidation and vowed not to be.
00:15:38the investigation reportedly revolves around Omar's
00:15:41immigration paperwork
00:15:45says this is all part of a criminal investigation sure criminal on
00:15:49what that's what we want to know what what is mean
00:15:53a criminal are the people running around hijacking and
00:15:57killing people and stealing the cars and marking up cars and scratching
00:16:01them and stuff not someone that's quietly in their home like this and this she's a
00:16:04threat because she acts like she's doing something.
00:16:09'well the US president Donald Trump has lashed out at
00:16:13Ilhanomar, I understand they're looking
00:16:16at her very carefully, I've always l to be
00:16:20totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me, I think
00:16:24she's a terrible person, just a complainer, she comes from a
00:16:28country that is a non-country, and then
00:16:32she comes over here, she complains about our constitution, I think she's
00:16:36a terrible person, but That's really up to the dear
00:16:39j and erosion has said more on this now
00:16:42from Washington DC. This fits a
00:16:46long pattern for President Trump, he will rail
00:16:49relentlessly against his enemies, his political enemies, his perceived
00:16:53enemies, he will openly call for the justice department to launch
00:16:57investigation into them, which in itself is really uh
00:17:01rather stunning, it's there's always been this wall between the presidency or traditionally
00:17:05wall between the presidency and the justice department. but then when the justice
00:17:08department then finally pulls the trigger so to speak and does launch
00:17:12investigation, trump tends to sort of back off and say, well, it's not me, it's the
00:17:16justice department launching this investigation, but what really has lot of people
00:17:20talking uh at this hour about all this is the fact that the justice
00:17:24department has a traditional policy that says you don't
00:17:28publicly announce the launching of investigation into a
00:17:31politician when you're 60 days out within 60 days out of an
00:17:35upcoming election, well we're only about 20 days out now from
00:17:39this upcoming mid-term election, Ilhan Omar is
00:17:42four-term member of Congress, sitting member of Congress, she's
00:17:46running again for fifth term, so that is really
00:17:49unusual, although there's no mechanism to actually prevent the Justice
00:17:53Department from doing that, so it's kind of a judgment call, but
00:17:57that is what critics are really howling about against the Trump administration saying
00:18:01this is clear uh violation the
00:18:03of Justice department's mission, they're trying to weaponize this uh...
00:18:07investigation in order to somehow affect the election of
00:18:11Omar in Congress. Well, let's get more on this now. Joining
00:18:15us, from Atlanta is Christopher Bruce, who's a political strategist
00:18:19with Common Ground Strategy Group. Christopher, great to have you on TRT
00:18:23World. I'm going to pick up on what Andy was saying there about the Department of
00:18:26Justice, is their unwritten rule that strictly aims to avoid any
00:18:30public investigation of candidate within 60 days
00:18:33of an election, partly for fear of creating bias.
00:18:37I mean in completely ignoring that, is Donald Trump trying
00:18:41to interfere here with potential outcomes and is this, as Omar
00:18:45claimed escalation a pattern of
00:18:47intimidation? Well, let's start
00:18:51off very clearly that anyone that is investigating
00:18:55a congress member or elected official, one, no one is above the
00:18:59law and no one is below the law either, so
00:19:03a our democracy you're supposed to abide by
00:19:06rules. including the justice department and including the president the United
00:19:10States. now what we're really looking for right now is
00:19:14transparency within the process. we have not seen that
00:19:17yet, but
00:19:19we have seen the president say he had nothing to do with it. we will definitely
00:19:23find out later if he did, or if he's been up to date on
00:19:26this. the issues really come into has something
00:19:30happened that deserves investigation. is this a political witch
00:19:34hunt? is there anything that's in here that really is? it
00:19:37politically beyond that, well the president and the congresswoman do
00:19:41not get along, they've done it publicly and privately with these
00:19:44spats, no one should be concerned about that, people should be concerned
00:19:48about justice, and US house democratic
00:19:52leader christopher hakim jeffrys described the raid as deeply
00:19:55disturbing, raising serious questions about the weaponization the federal
00:19:59government against Trump's enemies, we cast our
00:20:03minds back some five or six six years to the unrest and violence
00:20:07that... occurred following Trump's election defeat to Joe Biden, is the
00:20:11president's inflammatory language here setting the scene for
00:20:14something similar, creating chaos when things don't go his
00:20:18way? when things do go his way,
00:20:22he creates chaos, when things don't go his way, he creates chaos. the
00:20:26issue is the amount of power that a US president has to
00:20:30influence uh people in congress and the political
00:20:33process. uh, we are a critical point in America,
00:20:50to harass and intimidate others, we are at crossing point, and
00:20:54I do believe the American people are going to choose wisely when it comes this
00:20:57November. Christopher, I want
00:20:59to ask you about this as well, dictionary defines racism as the conviction that
00:21:03one's own race is superior in intelligence, he has described
00:21:07h Somalia as not even a country as garbage, his verbal
00:21:11attack on the immigrant Somali community, it seems to
00:21:15have more than a hint of racism about it. Are you disappointed that more
00:21:19leaders don't... call him out or are people just afraid of him
00:21:22and what he might do in response to them if they
00:21:25do or even worse
00:21:29apathetic. that's what i'm really concerned
00:21:32about. people who allow this individual
00:21:36who bullies and says some the most horrendous things that we've ever heard
00:21:40and not say anything about it. so everything that you just
00:21:44labeled the people being scared of him, people are
00:21:47absolutely maybe a...
00:22:20We never want to repeat. Christopher, grateful for your time in your analysis.
00:22:24Thank you for joining us on TRT World. Thank
00:22:27you. Thousands of people have marched
00:22:30to India's Supreme Court as widespread protest over
00:22:34alleged electoral fraud continue to rock the country. They want the
00:22:38election chief to resign over what they say is the removal of
00:22:42130 million people from voting registers. Well,
00:22:46nearly billion people were eligible to vote in India's last general.
00:22:50That was in 2024,
00:22:52well Mohammed Haji now
00:22:53reports.
00:22:58It could be one the biggest political challenges India's government has
00:23:01faced in more than decade, as new week brought a fresh wave
00:23:05of unrest. Despite security
00:23:09measures described as fortress like in New Delhi, once
00:23:13again thousands of people marched through its
00:23:16streets, leading them in
00:23:20front left seat the bus and fresh from his own detention was
00:23:23opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, and people are, and
00:23:27people are seeing the Narendra Modi is blocking
00:23:29the whole town, he is putting 30,00, 40,00 police officers
00:23:33outside, for what, until the constitution is upheld,
00:23:37until the election commissioner resigns, until the election system is
00:23:41revamped, until India gets justice, the youth
00:23:45of this country won't stop. Do whatever you
00:23:48want. This march was headed to the
00:23:51Supreme Court to submit a petition calling for his
