00:06:45sadly it's all about team Niger performance um the
00:06:49finals medal table right there Nigerian finishing seventh
00:06:53but in terms of 24 metal holes 10 gold seven silver seven

00:07:11lasito and Zambia were also teams that did have
00:07:15medals, well let's do review team langer performances in
00:07:18Glasgow and what was the historic outing for several
00:07:22athletes, not just team Nigeria now, but several athletes did stand
00:07:26out in terms of posting world records, also smashing the commer world
00:07:30games record, one them is the team captain of team
00:07:33Nigeria Falashada Femiayo who was the team Nigeria's captain
00:07:37to 2026 Comerold games in Glasgow and she joins the show this
00:07:41evening. good evening for lasha day, it's good to have you on the
00:07:44show, good evening sir, happy to be with
00:07:48you, thank you so much, let's start with team Nigeria's
00:07:51performance, because I know quite well that you know the national sports
00:07:55commission had a projection of about 16 to 20 gold
00:07:58medals, um, but when you take into cognisence, the fact that it was just 10
00:08:02sports um this time around, it was still a successful outing by
00:08:06every standard, what do you make of Team Nigeria's performance at the Glasgow
00:08:10games which you had the privilege of? in the team
00:08:13captain? well, i will
00:08:16first say i will give thanks to the national sports commission
00:08:20because the are they encourage for the encouragement they gave
00:08:24us, because you know as athlete you have been training for so
00:08:27many years, when you hear that, ah, this is what is your
00:08:31reward, where you give us gold, where you give us, when you go there and fight and
00:08:35bring back the bring back the medal, you you will
00:08:39be, you will be pushed to go beyond.
00:08:49with the support the national sport commission and uh
00:08:53our DG, the director general
00:08:56with Malche Udico, they've tried
00:09:00because - they've been encouraging us to their words and
00:09:03cash and kind that if you go there and make us
00:09:07proud, we will make you proud too, so we say a big thank you to
00:09:10them and is a big privilege for me to be the
00:09:14captain because i've been praying for god, god they have given me the captain, i
00:09:18want the best the
00:09:19out commonw game, which uh, all
00:09:23our performance was very brilliant one, so i thank God for that.
00:09:26okay, well definitely talk about you, the athlete welfare and how
00:09:30that sport athletes to go all out um for the nation, let's
00:09:34talk about camping, more often than not when it comes to big
00:09:38performances like this, global performances, there have always been
00:09:41complaints. time past about inadequate you know um
00:09:45training camp and what have you, this time around there was a two weeks
00:09:49camping in Nigeria before the three weeks camping in
00:09:53Abidin, how important, how impactful was that
00:09:57training camp, especially the one in abadin to ensure that you all had
00:10:00success at the games, it was very big
00:10:04impact in our lives as athlete because it has never happened,
00:10:08it has been long, it has never happened, if you see bramian.
00:10:122020 it was only we spend only uh 12 days
00:10:15and you can see the performance, but this one we
00:10:19spend almost a month plus going
00:10:21to two months income, two weeks here in Nigerian, the weeks in
00:10:25Abad in as you can see, you will see the improvement, there is a big improvement.
00:10:29I want to thank, I want to thank the National Sport
00:10:32Commission for the equipment, because when we get to Abadin, all the
00:10:36equipment there are very perfect, very, very good one, so we love it,
00:10:40so even seeing that equipment gave us very
00:10:43big, it gave us very big head to go
00:10:47and perform. Okay, so thank, thank
00:10:51you national sports commission, okay, let's talk about the athlete welfare.
00:10:55because you mentioned that you know about the prize um you
00:10:58know the bonuses that were attached to each um
00:11:02medalist from the gold um to the silver and the bronze
00:11:06um was that just the drive or there was also a personal goal
00:11:10you know that athletes um set out to achieve in terms of
00:11:14personal best in terms of games record in terms of world records what
00:11:18was that motivating factor not just for you but for other athletes
00:11:22asides the welfare package
00:11:24as i said earlier, i said something earlier, i said uh, as
00:11:28athlete you have been training for years, for two years, three years,
00:11:32coming out for the common word games and uh
00:11:35the uh the national sports
00:11:38commission malonche udiko and the dg coming
00:11:42out to say if you give me gold this is
00:11:44what i will give you, if you give me silver this is what i give, is a big
00:11:47motivation, so only that motivation alone and the
00:11:51welfare was very okay, so it motivates the at to
00:11:55go there and say uh, since they can do this, let me go there and perform,
00:11:59like I said, it's just like training a child to go to
00:12:02school, when it's time for him to write exam, you you wait for him to bring a
00:12:06good result, so that is what they did, and thank god we gave them good
00:12:10results, okay, let's talk about you personally
00:12:13now, be, aside being team Nigeria's captain to the games, you
00:12:17were one of those, you know, medal hopefuls for the Nigerian
00:12:21consents having dominated your sports and also
00:12:25several records over the years, it was very
00:12:28successful outing for you, you won the gold medal, you also had the
00:12:32world record broken, how impressed were you by your performance
00:12:36and how do you think you build on this for future
00:12:39performances? well, i will
00:12:43said uh, you see firstly, if you have passion for a
00:12:46game, you will go all out for it, the passion i have for
00:12:50my game, the love and the resilience, that is what make
00:12:54me to... go there win the gold and i break the world record
00:12:58there so i thank i thank god for that because uh
00:13:02i was trying he's not easy common game in power lifting is body
00:13:06weight uh we deal on body
00:13:08weight so you will go three times your body
00:13:12weight before you can be able to win your gold if
00:13:16you check my category you will find out that we have those that are big there
00:13:19small so it is on body weight so what you push there
00:13:23they will use it and calculate your body with, so I just thank God, it was
00:13:27a great performance. Okay, let's
00:13:31talk about your children, because um, during the common world games, when you won the
00:13:35gold medal, you talked about your children being a huge factor for
00:13:39you, um, how decisive were they in terms of
00:13:42inspiring you and motivating you to go all the way, not just to cleanch the
00:13:46gold medal, but also smash the world
00:13:48record, well let me let me give you an example,
00:13:52like uh,
00:13:53a day to my competition, those at home yeah, my kids and
00:13:57my younger ones, everybody were on fasting, they called me,
00:14:01they said they are fasting for a day before my competition that they will
00:14:05love me to bring back the gold medal, so that was why when i won it,
00:14:08i have to call them immediately, i won the gold medal, so thank
00:14:12goodless to them, most especially my husband,
00:14:16he went on fasting to praying that
00:14:19god she's my wife, she must not fail and i is a
00:14:23big appreciation to him and my kids, my family members and my
00:14:27fans, all my fans, i will say a big thank you to them for their
00:14:31support and prayers. okay, um, before i let you go,
00:14:35um, what next for you, you've had you know the privilege of representing
00:14:38Nigeria on several fronts when it comes to international
00:14:42competitions, um, probably the height of it was this commer world games
00:14:46because you were named team captain for the Nigerian
00:14:49contingent, what next for Folashade in terms of smashing more
00:14:52records, winning more laurels, how?
00:14:55do you see the next year in terms of competitions for
00:14:58you? well, if god star is, let's god
00:15:02keep us, I'll keep on training to go more further, because
00:15:06the there's a saying that say there's there's no champion forever, so where you are
00:15:10sleeping, we still have some people training for you, so you don't have to sit, I
00:15:14will keep on training by the grace of God, anything it gives me in the next
00:15:18competition, fine, okay, and um, finally
00:15:22for Team Nigeria, um, you, you've praised the nationals. sports commission
00:15:25for the support they've given the athletes in terms of training camp, in
00:15:29terms of equipment as well as you know the athlete welfare, the
00:15:33financial incentives, what other you know um reforms,
00:15:37what other? things do you expect the national sports commission to do to
00:15:40ensure that Nigerian sports continues to thrive on the global
00:15:44stage? all right, on behalf of me on all the
00:15:48athletes, the team Nigeria that went for commerweight game, we are looking forward to our
00:15:51our president to
00:15:55receive us, at least we have made the country proud, each two
00:15:59should make us proud. okay, um, certainly
00:16:02president will definitely um have
00:16:06you
00:16:07all is so he's done that over the years in terms of
00:16:10hosting the super falcons, the the tigers, the basketball team, you
00:16:14name it, i'm sure the commonwealth contingent will not be left
00:16:18out, the captain of team Nigeria to
00:16:222026 commonwth games in Glasgow, i have to thank you so much and thank you
00:16:26for all you do for Nigerian sports, thank you very
00:16:29much, thank you so much,
00:16:31bye.
00:16:57Away from the common world games now let's our attention to the very best of football and it's all
00:17:01about the women's africa cup of nations where Nigeria
00:17:05definitely is the dominant figure. when it comes to continental
00:17:08women's football 10 time champions going in for record extending
00:17:1211th and certainly all hopes will be resting on the match
00:17:16later tonight we'll get to that a bit let's talk about the action we saw last
00:17:20night as South Africa secured the hardf 1-0
00:17:23victory over Burkina Faso at the Moole Rashid Stadium
00:17:27in Casablanca to cleanch a sports in the women's africa cup of nations cut
00:17:31of finals um definitely you had South Africa entering that final
00:17:35group B match under immense. pressure as they had to deal
00:17:39with so much following a shock 2-1 opening defeat against
00:17:43Tanzania not forgetting the four goal still meet against
00:17:47um ivory coast we'll leave your highlights of that and when we get back we'll be talking
00:17:50more about the super
00:17:51falcons
00:20:21talking about the women's africa cup of nations and the super falcons of Nigeria
00:20:25will take on the Cleopatras of Egypt in that critical final group C match while
00:20:28Malawi and Zambia will slugged out a high sticks encounter, it must
00:20:32be said for the southern African derby to see who progresses
00:20:36through.
00:20:43champions, Nigeria Super Falcons will take on Egypt in the final
00:20:47group C fixture the 2026 Women. Africa cup of nations
00:20:51tonight and the highly enspated continental clash is shadow to take place at the
00:20:55state Olympic de Rabat in Morocco. Nigeria bounces into
00:20:59this match needing a comprehensive victory to guarantee automatic
00:21:02progression into the quarterfinals as well as skip their 227
00:21:06FIFA Women's World Cup qualification hopes alive. Following an
00:21:10opening 3-2 shock defeat to Malawi along strike from seasal
00:21:14shoala secured the vital 1-il win over Zambia to
00:21:17place Nigeria second in the group with three points. Meanwhile, Egypt occupies the
00:21:21bottom of group C with zero points after being eliminated via successive
00:21:25defeats, including six-nail Thrasion by Zambia. A win
00:21:29secures the sports in the top two of group C, while if Zambia defeats
00:21:33Malawi in the simultaneous fixture a three-way tie at six points,
00:21:37will force carf to determine the advanced teams fire head-to-head
00:21:41records. This is how group C looks ahead of tonight's decider.
00:21:45Malawi sits comfortably at the top of group C with six points after
00:21:48securing successive victory. is a match the one and two, the group remains wide
00:21:52open, headed into the final matches tonight with Zambia and Nigeria
00:21:56b tide on three points each, while Egypt occupies the bottom spot
00:22:00with no points and have been mathematically
00:22:03eliminated.
00:22:09on the other side the break, we definitely be speaking someone who understands women's
00:22:13football inside out. TBC Sports
00:22:16desk.
00:22:20Thank you very much for staying with us, now joining us live on the show is football
00:22:24commentator chidi Izyani. chid, good evening, it's good to have you
00:22:28on the show, hi, thank you very much, thank you for
00:22:32having me, thank you so much, it's all about the super falcons that made
00:22:35Nigeria proud over the decades, it must be said, 10 time
00:22:39continental champions in record, um, extending performance we
00:22:43saw from them at the last tournaments and this time around they
00:22:47definitely have what it takes to make it through to the next
00:22:50round after that shock the free to Malawi. what are your expectations
00:22:54for tonight's game in terms of an overview before dove into the
00:22:58nuances? well, first of all, this is the
00:23:02first time uh we're having permitations in over
00:23:0510 competitions about the super falcons and for me it's a little
00:23:09bit um worrying because we've never had to do this, we've always
00:23:13skill through the group stages, but if there's anything we can take away from
00:23:17that victory against Zambia is that the super falcons are still the
00:23:21queens of africa because um going
00:23:25a player down
00:23:26and still holding out uh a very very fantastic uh
00:23:30display by the girls um was really good my
00:23:33expectations the super falcons they already know um
00:23:37what the mathematics is um so the best they can do right now
00:23:41is go out there today um score as many
00:23:45goals as possible we have to be very clinical compact at the
00:23:49back as usual and the midfield has to um
00:23:52contribute more um towards um goal efforts
00:23:56because I felt that was part the problems in the first game uh
00:24:00yes we had few errors in defending here and
00:24:03therefore some the goals we conceded but I believe we have
00:24:06the team uh that can go out there and and score
00:24:10goals we need to score goals we need to remove ourselves
00:24:14um from any calculations uh at the
00:24:18moment we have a a zero um goal
00:24:22difference uh, which means that we need to make sure that
00:24:26we get more than every other person in the group, because if it
00:24:30comes down to the uh the head to head
00:24:33where below malawi on the head to head about be on the head to
00:24:37head, so the the main thing for the super falcons today is to
00:24:41ensure that we uh score as many goals as possible to put ourselves
00:24:45in the best position to to go ahead in this competition.
00:24:48okay, delve beat into the team and what the tactical
00:24:52setup may be, well that the super falcons will be missing to key players
00:24:56o got red card in last game, you have
00:25:00it as well who will be missing this due to suspension, yellow card
00:25:04accumulation, how does this affect the team's balance and who do
00:25:08you think madugu should field to replace these stairs to ensure that
00:25:12the team doesn't miss them that much?
00:25:16um, i believe the super falcons um have we saw
00:25:20in the game against Zambia, Uchebe stepped into that defensive
00:25:23roll and had fantastic game, I think she had better
00:25:27handle on on Barbara Banda uh who
00:25:31was really really who had the the the shirt the shirt
00:25:34number of them so I believe Uchebe
00:25:38can comfortably step into that role uh we also
00:25:41saw I believe um coming to player right back
00:25:45and she was she was very good in that position so I believe um
00:25:50the the defensive situation is settled uh, the coach will now have to look
00:25:54at his midfielders and see who would
00:25:58be that creative drive, um, maybe
00:26:02see
00:26:02a situation, where uh Ajibade drops into the attacking role in
00:26:06the midfield and he plays two strikers because like I said this
00:26:09game is very important to us and we need
00:26:13we need to score a lot of goals Aziza toshoala despite
00:26:17the numerous calls
00:26:19you know nigerians like to panic for no reason uh that
00:26:23she's old she needs to retire she's proven over and over again that she is
00:26:26what what she says she is she's a very good player still relevant
00:26:30to the team and this is another game where we will need her,
00:26:34so the coach will have to find um a striker to pair her
00:26:38with, um uh kalau would have to improve
00:26:42on her um game and also help this team
00:26:45score so um in the midfield row the coach will have to look at what he
00:26:49has uh which other winger can we bring in to
00:26:53afford us to have a jibade go into that attacking
00:26:57midfield row because i believe her playing there gives us added
00:27:00advantage of scoring um extra goals in this
00:27:04game. okay, let's talk about sisal shala whom you
00:27:08mentioned, i know quite well after the first game where you know she had to come off the bench,
00:27:12the where it talks about starting her and you know having experience counts
00:27:16and the team the coach listen to those cris and she got the
00:27:20goal early on, she made quite a handful of decent runs it must be said behind
00:27:24the defense line against Zambia and but there were you know
00:27:27chances that we're missed as well um do you think it's all about starting
00:27:31her and banking on? experience or she could come off the bench, maybe
00:27:35we should go for peace this time around, because the Egyptian difference, as it
00:27:39seems, it looks like it's quite vulnerable and likes of aajibade as you've
00:27:42mentioned can just really have a go at
00:27:44it, um, you don't, you don't rest
00:27:48your your your fastest horse for the second round, you have to
00:27:52play aziza Toshuala from the start, um, nine minutes
00:27:56into the game is against Zambia, she run past three
00:27:59players uh to score that loan goal that won us the
00:28:03competition uh the the game and I believe that it's
00:28:07very important that Rashida um that Oshuala starts this
00:28:10game uh she her presence alone would
00:28:14attract defenders uh to her, it makes sure that
00:28:18um she will create spaces for other players to come in and play, it's
00:28:22quite unfortunate that it jide will not be
00:28:26playing today because she's she usually capitalizes on those runs
00:28:29from Ashwala to play - That's
00:28:32why um Captain Ajibad would I would recommend her to
00:28:36step into that role uh because it would give us another
00:28:40advantage to have someone to capitalize on that definitely start
00:28:42osuala is our best striker still and
00:28:46we have to start our best legs we have to start our best
00:28:50legs let me get your thoughts concerning the issue of playing certain
00:28:54players out out of position again the beauty about you know
00:28:57football especially from the fans is there's always a talking point
00:29:01and we saw with social space debates about Madugo playing certain
00:29:05players out of position, there was aloze mentioned even from the first
00:29:09game esturanko as well was mentioned in there, do you
00:29:13think it's all about experimenting against side that is deemed
00:29:17um a weaker opponent as against Zambia and Malawi or you think
00:29:21it will still retain faith in terms of playing you know the
00:29:24players how he played them over the past two
00:29:26games um i don't i don't necessarily
00:29:30think the the coach has been ex experimenting quote uh so to
00:29:34say, i think he has been trying to play the players
00:29:38he trusts in those positions, um, but we are
00:29:42a situation where a win is not
00:29:46just enough,
00:29:47we have to win and win well uh, which means that the coach would
00:29:51have to look at his squad and and see what is possible,
00:29:54like i mentioned in the right back position, alos was moved to the right back
00:29:58position um um we we had an opportunity
00:30:02to see oladico play and she was good, so I think any
00:30:06any manager would
