00:10:26In outside Nigeria, the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of
00:10:30Congo is accelerating with African and Global Health officials
00:10:34warning that the response is struggling to contain the virus.
00:10:38Since the outbreak was declared in mid May, nearly
00:10:413,900 confirmed cases and more than
00:10:441,750 death have been recorded, making it the fastest

00:11:06widespread community transmission. The outbreak is caused
00:11:10by the bondi bogio strain of ebola for which there are
00:11:14currently no approved vaccines or treatment. Conflicts
00:11:18population uh displacement and illegal mining continue to

00:11:28It's watching TVC news that one, we take a short break and return with news from the state,
00:11:32stay with
00:11:32us.
00:11:52Welcome to news from the state where we bring your... important keer development
00:11:56across Nigeria's 36 states. Let's start off in
00:12:00Nadamawa state where wildlife uh crime is increasingly becoming one
00:12:04the greatest threat to biodiversity, national security and
00:12:08sustainable development. High Court's judges and magistrates in the
00:12:11state and now receiving specialized training to uh strengthen the
00:12:15prosecution of wildlife offenders, strengthen collaboration among
00:12:19agencies responsible for combating wildlife crime. Jesse
00:12:23Daniel reports. while animals roaming freely in their
00:12:27natural habitat, laush forest sheltering rare
00:12:30species, rivers sustain aquatic life. this
00:12:34ecosystem provide food, livelihood and environmental
00:12:38balance, but they are coming under increasing pressure
00:12:41from wildlife crime. according to conservation
00:12:45experts, more than 400 thousand wildlife species are
00:12:48affected globally, to strengthen the fight
00:12:52against these crimes. before i say that
00:12:55again, magistrates in adam are participating a
00:12:59specialized workshop focus on wildlife and forest crimes. they
00:13:03are doing it at the training is designed to improve the capacity of
00:13:07judicial officers to effectively prosecute offenders wild
00:13:11strengthening collaboration among agencies responsible for enforcing
00:13:15wildlife protection laws. so the laws are here, they are
00:13:18adequate, the only issue we have is the
00:13:21implementation, we need the judiciary. to step
00:13:25up, when issues of wildlife crimes come to their table, they
00:13:29should not take it with levity, because like us
00:13:33in NESRA, all our regulations are criminal, all the
00:13:36environmental regulations, and we have about 35 or
00:13:4036 them that are gazeted all an acts the national
00:13:44assembly. experts say effective judicial system is
00:13:47critical to dismantling criminal networks involved in
00:13:51wildlife trafficking and protecting dangerous rich natural her.
00:13:55teach uh we feel that for
00:13:58justice to be served and the appropriate
00:14:02penalties to be metted to
00:14:04these uh criminal elements, it's
00:14:08important that as a
00:14:11multidisciplinary approach
00:14:15uh we are able to ensure that everybody is brought on
00:14:19board, they say ignorance is no
00:14:21defense, but once the matter
00:14:25comes to us and we
00:14:28are we handle it effectively, competently,
00:14:32naturally, it will deter others, other
00:14:35hunters or stakeholders believe that with stronger collaboration between law enforcement
00:14:39agencies and the judiciary, Nigeria can significantly reduce
00:14:43wildlife crime, preserve it biodiversity and maintain the
00:14:46ecological balance on which millions of people depend
00:14:50on. GC Daniel, TVC news,
00:14:54Yola. Our reporter Jesse Daniel joins me
00:14:58from Yola, Jesse, thank you for joining us at this time,
00:15:02um, wildlife crime is offer seen as a conservation issue, but
00:15:05now we see stakeholders linking it to national uh security and
00:15:09organized crime, talk to us about how significant uh this
00:15:13is in the way the problem is being
00:15:14addressed, well uh it's a
00:15:18b and b the city of you and also you know a part of effort
00:15:22to be able to conserve wildlife here in Adam. and also the country at
00:15:26large most times according to what we heard
00:15:29in the the discussion that we held at that particular meeting
00:15:32is that wild life is often something that people don't really pay too much
00:15:36attention to it's something like other people feel like what exactly do
00:15:39you have to gain by preserving the wild life, however in that particular will not be able to
00:15:43understand that this particular wild that people don't repassion
00:15:47to has significant balance to the ecosystem and secondly
00:15:51again it's not s as also nexis and also doing what
00:15:55providing national security because some of this white life that whenever they are
00:15:59being trafficked or whenever they have been taken out the country they are being traded
00:16:03in most cases in exchange for ammunition and sometimes in
00:16:07ex for all that to get drugs and other things that when they
00:16:10come into the country, it now becomes a chin of concern of national
00:16:14security
00:16:15to us, so it is very important that all stakeholders being brought on board and
00:16:18also offenders that whenever they are being apprehended, they should be
00:16:22able to get the maximum justice that are needed to them in accordance with the
00:16:26law, that is why the judges, the magistrate and now being brought on board to be able
00:16:30to be well educated and enlighten the more on the
00:16:34reasons why protecting the wide life and also dispensation
00:16:38of justice to offenders is actually very important in order for us to save our
00:16:41country, to save the nation and also for us to enjoy maximum security
00:16:45in the country. Jesse daniel, thank you for talking to us at this
00:16:49time, we turn attention to zanfara state uh
00:16:53where the government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare
00:16:56delivery and advancing universal health coverage through evidence
00:17:00based planning, effective resource allocation and stronger
00:17:04collaboration among key stakeholders, stakeholders in the health. sector led by the
00:17:08traditional institution also shows their readiness to do more in
00:17:11sensitizing the public, especially pregnant women to attend
00:17:15aternatal care regularly.
00:17:18reports them for state ministry of health joint annual review
00:17:222026 brots together government officials, traditional
00:17:26leaders, development partners and health professionals to review the
00:17:30performance the health sector, identify challenges and strategies for
00:17:33improved healthcare service delivery. it also provides program
00:17:37reports, valuable data that will guide government policy,
00:17:41resource allocation and the effective implementation of health programs. so
00:17:45another company that has witnessed lot of progress is the human resource for
00:17:49health, which is also a challenge to most the state.
00:17:53in fact, worldwide, there's no country that
00:17:56has 100% enough human resource for
00:17:59health, Nigeria and Zamp is not left out, but
00:18:03Zamper Government is also doing its best to make sure.
00:18:07that we have enough human resource for last year to this year
00:18:11a lot of approval for recruitment of health facing has
00:18:15been the approved and conducted. the government also
00:18:19expressed this me over the refusal of some pregnant women to attend antinatal care
00:18:22regularly, but the traditional institution assures to do more in sensitizing
00:18:26the public. if you look at in some areas like in the issue of
00:18:29ANC, the primary healthcare centers that are providing ANC
00:18:33services, there is cff there.
00:18:37rulers, I can assure you that will continue to
00:18:41collaborate and support the government
00:18:45in mobilizing our people for their programs, educating
00:18:49them and create more awareness on some the partners that are coming
00:18:53to us to assist. People living with disability both comment the state government
00:18:57for providing free medical care for its members. I want to
00:19:00congratulate the effort the present uh
00:19:04administration for providing.
00:19:09pre health care services to person living with special needs. The government
00:19:12appreciates the contributions of development partners, traditional
00:19:16rulers, health workers and other stakeholders for their continued support in the health
00:19:20sector. Safeless Darify, TVC news,
00:19:23gusou reporter Theophilus joins me on the
00:19:27news this hour. Theophilus, um, there have been calls for the
00:19:31traditional institutions to increase sensitization uh, for
00:19:35them to access more care. in your state, talk to us
00:19:39about the reason why
00:19:40you know many pregnant women do not want to go for
00:19:42ANC? some uh
00:19:46good afternoon and one the reasons some them
00:19:49refuse uh attending uh antinatal care is
00:19:53because they still believe in the traditional way of taking care theirselves
00:19:57before giving birth. despite sensitization by government and
00:20:00other partners at different times, most people, especially
00:20:04in the rural areas still believe of taking care
00:20:07themselves traditionally uh before giving birth, so the
00:20:11government through the traditional institution is working hard this time
00:20:15around to see that people are being sensitized
00:20:18enough so they can attend internet before giving birth, so this has been
00:20:22one the major challenge the health ministry is facing when it comes to
00:20:26women issues in zanfare state, what is the
00:20:30government really doing the state government in ensuring that people
00:20:34access care especially in those rural areas? is in the
00:20:38state? yeah, over a
00:20:41thruit uh, i can bly said
00:20:44147 primary health care centers across
00:20:48the
00:20:48for one of 47 words in forest. are highly functional, very, very
00:20:52functional, so government is doing its best to provide health care
00:20:56services to the people at the grassroots, so primary healthcare centers are very,
00:21:00very functional and active, so except those who decided to go on the
00:21:04traditional way, but for government its own, it has done its best,
00:21:08secondary uh health facilities were upgraded and
00:21:12uh uh given enough uh personnel and equipments were
00:21:15also installed, i think barely year ago, so the government has done its part now
00:21:19the... main challenge is the people to accept going to health
00:21:23facilities to seek for health uh assistance.
00:21:27Thank you for that update, senior reporter Theophilus
00:21:30Darify. The minister of works, Dave
00:21:34Umai has revealed that the administration of President Bolatinobu is
00:21:37focusing on completing inherited and abandoned road
00:21:41projects across the country with only two entirely new federal highways
00:21:45currently under construction. The minister made is no during inspection
00:21:49tour of section. one to a part of section 4A the Lagos
00:21:53Calibar Coastal Highway, including the Undo State Access.
00:21:56Senior reporter
00:21:58Jim Radio reports. The
00:22:01inspection the Lagos Calab Coastal Highway project
00:22:05along the state corridor due to top
00:22:08government officials, traditional rulers and members
00:22:11of OOS communities. Assessing the progress
00:22:15of work, the minister of works Dave
00:22:18Umatrated. the federal government's commitment to
00:22:22completing all ongoing road projects before
00:22:25initiating new ones. he explained that the Lagos
00:22:29Calabar Coastal Highway and Shokoto Badagri
00:22:33Highway remain the only completely new road projects
00:22:36introduced by the current administration. According to
00:22:40the minister, the coaster highway is designed to
00:22:44revolutionize transportation, boost commerce and
00:22:47stimulate economic activities across. Nigeria's coastal
00:22:51state, while unlocking new opportunities for investment
00:22:55and development, umayi also dismiss speculations
00:22:59that the project alignment have been diverted away from mundo state
00:23:03assuring stakeholders that the stay remains fully
00:23:07captured in the development plan. This is
00:23:10section 4b,
00:23:13uh 4A is in Ogun, 28 km,
00:23:17it's a ongoing and concrete. already on
00:23:20it, this remaining section is ondo, which is 52
00:23:24kms and we are told that by
00:23:27December, the entire foundation would have been
00:23:31laid, meanwile the contractor handling the Indo state
00:23:35axes alongside community leaders express
00:23:38optimism about the pace and quality of work. As you
00:23:42can see the dredging is ongoing, we've done over 10 kilometers of
00:23:46sand filling in this area and by the drone. fotografs
00:23:50will be able to witness because most the cars cannot get along
00:23:53the route,
00:23:56we may have no choice than to do with what we
00:24:00have, nevertheless, i may not be able
00:24:04to elaborate much, stakeholders believe that legal's
00:24:08kalabar coaster highway will provide lasting solutions to
00:24:12persistent road infrastructure challenges, improving
00:24:15connectivity and enhancing socio economic growth in the
00:24:19region.
00:24:28thank you for joining us at this time and let's start with this uh concerns
00:24:32raised about the projects um alignment what
00:24:36did
00:24:36the ministers say to that and especially about the economic and
00:24:40financial benefit of this rule to undo
00:24:42resident uh let tell you
00:24:46that this road in question is looking all the
00:24:50coastal communities, especially and
00:24:54others uh the along the coastal areas and
00:24:57the minister has assured them that the road will be done according to
00:25:01specification so that the people uh can really
00:25:04enjoy can boost economic activities
00:25:07you know in most of this area we use
00:25:10bls about this road will easily link some the
00:25:14communities that we ensure that they can easily move some
00:25:17the things they are doing these communities. uh to other
00:25:21communities across Nigeria, so it's a very important route
00:25:24and the people from those state are happy about this development that they are also
00:25:28included, you had the minister they are
00:25:31telling that saying that the road on
00:25:34those will cover about 52
00:25:38kilometers and this is a good development for the people the
00:25:42states in expecting this and the believe that other states
00:25:46across the cost of communities will also benefit from this kind.
00:25:50from the federal government, thank you so much for that update, our
00:25:54senior reporter edgi radio life for us

00:26:52Every day across forests, highways, towns and

00:27:11our children, they murder innocent citizens, they force families
00:27:15from their homes, they turn thriving communities into places
00:27:19of fear and uncertainty, their goal is
00:27:22simple, to break our spirit, divide our
00:27:25people and steal the future of our nation, but
00:27:29Nigeria is stronger than terror, as we do... mant greater

00:27:59by tribe, not by religion, not by
00:28:03region, not by political party, because
00:28:06terror recognizes no ethnicity, no faith and no
00:28:10ideology. its enemy is all of us and
00:28:14together, united as one people, we can defeat it
