00:00:21stay with tvis news, tv news
00:00:24first with breaking
00:00:26news.
00:00:39All right, you're welcome back, it's still journalist hangout, I still have today about right
00:00:43here with me and
00:00:45bk, okay, at right there,
00:00:49Abuja studios, so before we went on that break, I asked you, according to the
00:00:52EFCC, they said they observe suspicious activities in
00:00:56that on that
00:00:57a account, and according to section 34
00:00:59of the EFC. act they have a right to the EFCC do the right
00:01:03thing or your opinion did they drop the ball here? well
00:01:06of actually under namonstance if we are
00:01:08in a normal political environment, every
00:01:12institution like the president
00:01:14of said is free to act independently being being
00:01:18pressurized being breat upon by the president or any other
00:01:22senior officer
00:01:23of the state, but because what DFC has done is being feeled as
00:01:26wrong because it is politic is seen as been. politically
00:01:30inexpedient at this
00:01:32of particular moment to make that move, but the timing of that particular
00:01:36thing is wrong, but the mar that they are doing their job, but because
00:01:39of the environment in which we are operating, the president seems to have been b to a
00:01:43of corner that the president is trying to use his
00:01:47powers to stop the AFCC, ordinarily if there's no
00:01:51of election, okay, when you look at the the the account in
00:01:54question is the ecological
00:01:56account, ecological entire.
00:01:59state account, ecological fund account
00:02:02of the state government, so the EFCC, they have been
00:02:06politically inexpedient, maybe we will have expected that the
00:02:09of AFCC should study the mood
00:02:14of of the polity before taking any decision, but that directive
00:02:14of in effect is also affecting the independence
00:02:17of the EFCC or any other institution of government, is this the first
00:02:21time the EFCC is doing this, probably close to the
00:02:24election, this is the first time, so it is
00:02:27of very close to the election, close to the election. now like if you look at different
00:02:31states,
00:02:32in hasc done something like this with another state? no, it has no
00:02:36of record so far, but when you look at the f that for instance, if the police should go and
00:02:40arrest or should the son of a senior person
00:02:44in government is involved
00:02:46in in any criminal few days or few weeks to the election, are
00:02:50you now asking the will you ask the police not to arrest the person not to
00:02:53of try the person? i think this thing has also put us say government
00:02:57in a very difficult situation,
00:02:59you know why why? the EFCC will be on, they will still be doing
00:03:02their job, after the election, if any fraction is
00:03:06seem to have been done, they will go back and begin
00:03:10to do what they are supposed to do, because what they are saying is that ecological fund
00:03:14is not political fund, you understand
00:03:17that the money is being
00:03:19of withdrawn not for the purpose for which
00:03:21it is meant for, the AFC can hide on that thing, but because in the
00:03:24political environment in
00:03:26of which we are operating today,
00:03:27it is not expedient and they have put the president a very tight corner
00:03:31by assuming that the president is using
00:03:34EFCC to stop the other party so that his own party can have
00:03:38an upper hand okay so so the problem now is
00:03:42because
00:03:42of the political environment in which we are operating and that is why we
00:03:46of can say the AFCC has done the wrong thing is because we are
00:03:49of reading political motive to it but naturally under normal
00:03:52circumstance they are doing their job as they have been doing it so the president's
00:03:56action president action yes because to be able
00:04:00to douse the political tension and average nigerian
00:04:04average voter on the street
00:04:06of like j said on the street of the easiest
00:04:10interpretation is that the president has tied back the hand
00:04:14of of so it could shape voter
00:04:17perception
00:04:19of the election but as it is now the president has
00:04:22also maybe i see he has over demonstrated to the whole
00:04:26world that is not interested in guiding any
00:04:29of of the okay shows
00:04:30that the president is
00:04:31of neutral neutral doesn't want to be seen to be guiding any
00:04:35status from performing his work, because
00:04:38of what the president has done has not actually stopped the
00:04:41EFCC from performing their job
00:04:43of after the election, like I said, that
00:04:46of account will still be
00:04:46of under scrutiny, under scrutiny,
00:04:49that account will still be under scrutiny after the election, maybe what EFCC has done, if
00:04:53they have been politically right is to
00:04:55wait until after the election and begin to now.
00:05:02of
00:05:08immunity, okay, you cannot question what the government has done, but for
00:05:12those people. committed the infraction other actors that other actors that committed the
00:05:15infraction, they have answer to give a later
00:05:19date, a later date. all right then, okay, gentlemen, let's
00:05:23move straight to our next
00:05:25conversation, hope grows
00:05:28stronger, each time captives regain their
00:05:32freedom. okay, before we go straight to our next conversation,
00:05:36b, do you have a part in thought, final thought on this
00:05:38matter? yeah.
00:05:44um, my pattern short is that is
00:05:48to commend the president for the action that he has
00:05:52taken, because i can
00:05:55understand how the president felt, all
00:05:59over the social media, they've been
00:06:01attacking the president and accusing
00:06:05him of trying to rig an
00:06:08election where in my view, he has shown
00:06:14completee even handedness. I have not seen
00:06:17anything that this president has done that suggests that he wants to rig the
00:06:21election for his party. He's not getting
00:06:25involved. Okay, it's not getting involved. He
00:06:28knows that the governor is someone
00:06:32who is bent on supporting him in the
00:06:36presidential election. So he knows that he has to handle that
00:06:39situation like no. man
00:06:42who has wisdom, so he he's been
00:06:46behaving like somebody who is not really
00:06:50interested in the outcome, if his party wins, he will be happy
00:06:54that his party has won, but I have not seen
00:06:58any action taken by this president that suggest
00:07:01that he wants to reak the election in favor of his
00:07:05party, lot of people have been saying that, oh he wants to reak the
00:07:08election, but lot of people say stupid things about this president.
00:07:13it doesn't mean that they have evidence, we've challenge
00:07:16people in the past to say, okay, you said this, you said that,
00:07:20some people calling themselves senior lawyers, but they are never
00:07:24able even defend some the nonsense that they do, so this
00:07:28president has not shown any sign
00:07:32that he wants to reak the election in favor of his party,
00:07:35no, i've not seen that sign, he is
00:07:38behaving like, well all these people involved are my people.
00:07:42and he has tremendous support ashin
00:07:45state, he has the support the governor,
00:07:49so he knows that this is a situation that has to
00:07:53handle, like is delicate situation that he has
00:07:56to handle very well, you know, so
00:08:00now people are happy because he has
00:08:04taken this decision, he has literally washed his hands clean
00:08:08because of this singular decision that he has taken, so
00:08:13they will go to the election and whoever
00:08:15wins will have won because the
00:08:18people um wanted you to win, so
00:08:22I i want to see the election free
00:08:26and fair um free of vote
00:08:30buying, but I know that's wishful thinking, there will be
00:08:33so much vote buying, they could even set a record in terms of vote
00:08:37by in this time around, because the the
00:08:41gladiators have... deep pockets and they are
00:08:44desperate to win, so I know that if I'm
00:08:48asking that I should be no vote buying, I'm wasting my time and wasting my
00:08:52breath, so they will be vote buying, okay, but the the
00:08:56outcome must reflect the
00:08:59aspiration, the wish the people, and uh,
00:09:03we
00:09:04want the violence to stop, because on both sides, they are killing one
00:09:08another, it is not, the violence is not limited to one side,
00:09:12only. honest person will say the violence is limited to one side,
00:09:15so we want the violence to stop, let our people freely
00:09:19go and take party that election, exercise their franchise, and
00:09:22whoever is defeated will have been defeated because he
00:09:26deserved to be defeated, defeated, this is what we want to
00:09:29see, okay, m talked about the issue of
00:09:33vote by, that could be,
00:09:35it could amount to whichful think, but parting thoughts on this
00:09:38matter, what think is that, in spite of uh whatever
00:09:42arsenal any the parties have stuck somewhere, you should
00:09:46not uh affect the
00:09:50conduct the election, they should not undermine the process of election,
00:09:54because when they undermine the processes the election, it will affect the
00:09:57integrity the result the election, let them sheet their
00:10:01sword and reduce their tendency to corrupt
00:10:04foters, i won't say foot buying, but each side has the
00:10:08tendency to want to corrupt puters to their side,
00:10:18has lot of job to do, they should observe kingly and after
00:10:22the election let them come out with whatever they have. like i said the other time,
00:10:26it does not necessarily mean that the FCC will not scrutinize that
00:10:29account, account that have been frozen, even though if the def
00:10:33tomorrow thursday, this means other parties have 48 hours,
00:10:37within 48 hours lot of things can happen, like we said the other time,
00:10:41lot of transfer money has been transferred from one account to the
00:10:44other, it is also sequal to the election, yes, if you are
00:10:48transferring huge money,
00:10:49it is part of a strategy induce voters,
00:10:53okay, let let us All right, gentlemen, let's move straight to our
00:10:57final conversation. Now, hope grows stronger each time
00:11:01captives regain their freedom. Reinforcing this, the Northern
00:11:04Senator's forum has praised the rescue of war commit kidnap victims
00:11:08inkara state, describing it as major
00:11:12victory against criminality. The forum said the
00:11:16operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence led
00:11:19security efforts and strong community collaboration
00:11:23tackling insecurity. I mean BK,
00:11:26congratulations are in order, yes, but how significant
00:11:30is this rescue operation the kidnapped victims in the fight
00:11:34against insecurity in our
00:11:36country? yes,
00:11:39is very significant,
00:11:43the manner the attack on war
00:11:46community went was extremely
00:11:50brutal, so many lives,
00:11:54lives were lost. in dozens
00:11:56and in spite of that they still
00:12:00took um people away,
00:12:04children, um, women, because they killed
00:12:07a lot the men, it was a brutal
00:12:11gun attack on the sleepy
00:12:14community, now since the they took them
00:12:17away, they had been bosting that they are going to
00:12:21marry the beautiful ones amongst them, and
00:12:25kill the rest,
00:12:27you know, so many people have been really worried
00:12:31that when are we going to find closure to this
00:12:35matter, and I'm happy that
00:12:39another intelligence led operation involving
00:12:42the army, the police, civil defense and
00:12:46a handful of
00:12:49vigilantes gave us this
00:12:52breakthrough, buse given the... number of people in
00:12:56captivity, this
00:12:58was one
00:13:01one abduction that we needed to find closure to,
00:13:05so 176 women and children, largely
00:13:08the men had been killed, and now what we need to
00:13:12do is to make it difficult for this mass
00:13:16abductions to take place,
00:13:19anymore, we have to make it difficult, we have to
00:13:22secure the... the
00:13:26forest that we have, we have to do our best, do
00:13:30lot of surveillance and reconnaissance
00:13:34missions across those dense
00:13:37forests so that these people will not find
00:13:40habitation. you can see that in some the
00:13:44states where you do not have this kind of forest, this
00:13:48kind of mass abductions are not happening, because where are
00:13:52we going to keep them, where
00:13:53are they going to keep them? 'if you have dt 170
00:13:57people in Lagos, where do you want to keep them? which
00:14:01forests are you going? you go even if you go
00:14:03e, where are you going to find the forest where you can keep
00:14:07them? we've left our
00:14:11forests unattended for too long, so these guys
00:14:15are literally taken over those forest,
00:14:17the kainji lake national park for example,
00:14:21we've abandoned it for years, now it is the habitation for'.
00:14:25both the boko haram fighters
00:14:29and other terrorist groups especially
00:14:33operating the shiroro area, so we need
00:14:36to yes to celebrate the release these
00:14:39people, but we have to take steps to make
00:14:43it impossible for this mass abductions to take
00:14:47place, and we have to also push aggressively
00:14:50for other people still in captivity, those
00:14:54them... in uh in um bno states who are
00:14:58kidnapped in askiraba the other day those those
00:15:01students we have to find a way
00:15:04to um bring them out of
00:15:07captivity and they come up with solid
00:15:11solid plan to
00:15:14estaminate um the threat
00:15:18that this terrorists constitute to our country
00:15:21especially in the northwest of our country and in
00:15:25um many parts the north central,
00:15:29especially Niger state, the largest state in our
00:15:33country. Okay, now today, should this rescue operation?
00:15:38be regarded as evidence that our armed forces are up to the
00:15:41task was about to say that personally
00:15:45i have to commend the men of com they have
00:15:49actually tried with what they did with oyo and now following
00:15:53closely to kwara it means that nigerian forces are gradually
00:15:57increasing their capacity yes to contain criminal elements
00:16:01in any parts of nigeria and it also means that those people
00:16:04think on govern spaces forest is the
00:16:07heaven, it's a warning to them that their days are numbered,
00:16:11i think we have to comment all aspect of our arm forces, if it has been like
00:16:15this in last five years, i think we will have stamp out
00:16:18terrorism, bandity, kidnapping nigeria, but today
00:16:22we what all these arm forces are doing, they have shown enough
00:16:25capacity, and we also have to thank the government, the federal government for
00:16:29encouraging them, because without provided the necessary facilities
00:16:33like intelligence gathering, like ammunition, like weapons, like encouraging
00:16:38like the
00:16:39the the increase in their salary, whether we like it or not, they are the one that are protecting us,
00:16:43so the forces the have encouragement, and it also shows
00:16:46that they are capable of doing bigger things, they are
00:16:50capable of securing Nigeria, because we are not going to ask any other
00:16:54national to come and secure our country,
00:16:56it is the arm forces and we are codos to them, i think now it wasn't just the arm
00:17:00forces alone, local communities also, do you think this
00:17:04local communities should play more form?
00:17:07Nigeria's broder secur because
00:17:09the challenges that we have in Nigeria today,
00:17:13like JJ said, when I was so young, we hear
00:17:16we know of uh forest guard, they call them ashogbo in Euroba,
00:17:20those who are keeping the forest, so those people are not doing their job in
00:17:23low except with the conivance
00:17:27and support the communities, all communities, which
00:17:31means the job of securing our territory is the job of all
00:17:34Nigerians, collective responsibility. for Nigerians, each
00:17:38local community, you have to be interested in with in your territory, all
00:17:42traditional rulers, all lobers, all local governments, they have to be
00:17:45interested who is occupying, we are in the traty, we are not too big,
00:17:49America alone has about three times, about 330 million
00:17:53people, we are just 220 million, so I think all
00:17:56communities, all layers of of security
00:18:00intelligence, we should anness it to make sure that
00:18:03criminals who actually came from other countries, but
00:18:07Nigeria in the last couple
00:18:09of years, so we
00:18:13should eliminate all those people came from other country to disturb
00:18:17us, why, if
00:18:20you want to come and visit me in my house, you want to come and visit me, and I give
00:18:23you bedroom to sleep, and you tell me that you choose to sleep in
00:18:27the toilet or in the in the veranda, which means you have
00:18:30motive, so all those people who are not living within the town
00:18:34or within established villages and community.
00:18:46necessary and we
00:18:46have to commend our arm forces, our arm forces should be commended, now
00:18:50taking off from where you know stock, he talked
00:18:54about people coming into the country, karara's proximity to
00:18:58Nigeria's borders, what should we be doing to secure our
00:19:02borders, to secure to disrupt crossborder
00:19:06criminal networks?
00:19:10We have to take vigilance seriously,
00:19:14um, that is not not what we are
00:19:17doing, especially in Northern
00:19:20Nigeria, our
00:19:24borders in northern Nigeria, especially in the
00:19:27northwest, are so poros
00:19:30and there are so many, so
00:19:34many unofficial uh,
00:19:37borders that people
00:19:41are using to bring arms into our
00:19:44country from the black
00:19:46markets, arms constitute
00:19:50the oxygen of terrorists and
00:19:54bandits, and they bring in arms through the
00:19:58black market to keep them
00:20:01going.
00:20:05i saw a video that showed: that through the
00:20:09waterways weapons were brought into
00:20:12Nigeria through keby states, I think it was the police
00:20:16that even cracked um that part that
00:20:20particular um efforts to bring in
00:20:24weapons, so Nigeria shares border with Bene
00:20:28republic through Kiby States
00:20:31and River Niger stretches
00:20:35through both both countries.
00:20:39We need to police our waterways,
00:20:41we need to police our land borders,
00:20:45once we are able to stop these weapons from coming
00:20:48in onr. trained the way they are coming
00:20:51in and we tighten our border
00:20:55post definitely
00:20:59the rate at which people streaming will will be reduced a
00:21:03lot the people who come who are into
00:21:07bandity and terrorism in our country they are not
00:21:10nigerians look at the lakura was for example they came all the
00:21:14way from mali and they pretended
00:21:18to be interested in Islam, they were preaching
00:21:22to people, they were even apprehending uh, bandits
00:21:26and cattle rustlers, today they turn
00:21:29full blown into a terrorist
00:21:33organization and they are killing our people, they
00:21:37are targeting immigration officers, they are targeting
00:21:40soldiers, especially in keby, but they are
00:21:43also present in Sokuto because
00:21:47Kiby has banned.
00:21:54so we have to police our borders, we
00:21:58have to equip our arm forces to be able to
00:22:01stand up to these people, because some the weapons that they are
00:22:05carrying, you will see that our
00:22:08regular security operatives don't even have those
00:22:11weapons, they've got money to
00:22:15buy gpmg, ak
00:22:1747, AK4 9 from a
00:22:21black market, so we also need to arm the
00:22:25people who have the responsibility to engage them now, and
00:22:29as I've said before, we can have state
00:22:32police, but if we not harm them sufficiently, they
00:22:36won't be able to stand up to these people, yes, I hear people say, oh,
00:22:40let's have state police after election, because this ignorance
00:22:43people think that they want to use state police for
00:22:47election, even if the president gives his assent today,
00:22:51there's no way you can put state police in place
00:22:54without recruiting, without training, without arming
00:22:58them, and all of that will take time, because you have to profile people that you are bringing
00:23:02in, how some these people reason I don't
00:23:06understand, you already thinking that
00:23:08it is for election, come on, who will put state police in
00:23:12place within so short a time, I said you just want them to
00:23:16be slaughtered, they need good training.
00:23:20good soldiers, good policemen are products of good
00:23:23training, and that's the way it will be to for the state
00:23:27police, they must get good training, they must be well
00:23:31kitted, they must be armed, that is
00:23:34what will make put them a good position to be able to
00:23:38protect us, okay, so we need time to put all of
00:23:42this in place, all the people thinking, oh, they are trying to do it for election,
00:23:46they don't know what they are talking about,
00:23:51Okay, all right, um, just in 30
00:23:54seconds, in order to reduce the pressure
00:23:58on the infiltration of terrorists and criminals to Nigeria,
00:24:01we have to equip the immigration officials more, because it through the immigration that they
00:24:05come, if they are reduced, if the t they have more weapons, more
00:24:09ammunition, more capacity to restrict their movement into Nigeria, they have
00:24:13inflow into Nigeria, it will reduce the pressure the Nigerian armed forces on
00:24:17the police and other local things, so we have to. concentrate on the
00:24:21immigration as all these on police borders we have in Nigeria,
00:24:25maybe about 43 we have in the northern part of Nigeria and other areas, we
00:24:28have to police our brothers well, when we police our brothers well with
00:24:32immigration officials who are well equipped, they will reduce the tendency
00:24:36these people to infiltrate - all right gentlemen, thank
00:24:40you so much for your contributions, bko, thank you so much for doing
