00:00:40of
00:00:51me in good evening everyone, welcome to beyond the
00:00:55headlines, i am Nife me Oguntoye, as they countdown
00:00:59me continues now, ahead of 2027 uh general
00:01:02elections, there are quite a number of things that we are
00:01:06seeing play out, you can also tell that
00:01:09Nigeria's map is being redrawn almost every day,
00:01:13politicians who wants stood on opposite sides
00:01:15of the divide are finding new allies, old rivers are
00:01:19of embracing and yesterday's impossible alliances are
00:01:23of becoming today's political reality, just days after the
00:01:27only northern senator elected on the platform. the
00:01:30NDC, um, on the platform
00:01:32of the NDC, rather, uh, Senator Rufay hanger dumped the
00:01:36opposition to return to the
00:01:38of APC, attention has shifted this evening to River State,
00:01:42where perhaps one
00:01:43of the country's most beta political fields appears to be given
00:01:47way to an uneasy truth, governor Fubara, who
00:01:51spent nearly two years locked in intense political batty with this
00:01:54predecessor and current FCT minister Yason wike
00:01:58as
00:01:59of publicly embraced reconciliation
00:02:02following uh that
00:02:04of intervention we saw earlier on and this exactly what he had to say to his
00:02:08followers, we have made peace in
00:02:12the
00:02:13me states and we have total and i
00:02:17am supporting our
00:02:19of rainbow me party or rainbow
00:02:22coalition,
00:02:24me presidentego is our
00:02:28president and is a world we are supporting, okay
00:02:32chinder is a governorship candidate that i am supported and
00:02:36anybody who believes in
00:02:37a me will
00:02:38of supports and every candidate that is under the rainbow for those
00:02:42of you who are saying for hey let's stay we want to collect
00:02:46something before we run there's nothing to collect
00:02:50oh i am already in the family i've got back to our
00:02:54family so please wherever you are give
00:02:58of your total support to that
00:03:00coalition, but perhaps even more
00:03:03surprising is tonight's guest, for the past two years, he was
00:03:07one of governor Fubara's loudest and most uncompromising
00:03:11defenders. on this program, he repeatedly accused
00:03:15week's camp of trying to destabilize river state,
00:03:19insisted that governor fubora
00:03:21of could never betray the people. now tonight
00:03:23that same man has announced, he's joining the rainbow
00:03:27coalition, the very political... platform that
00:03:31he wants criticized and that is aligned with the ASM Wiki and it says it
00:03:35will work for all its candidates ahead of
00:03:382027. is this genuine
00:03:40reconciliation or political opportunism or simply
00:03:44another example of Nigeria's ever changing political calculations
00:03:48and that's our conversation tonight and it's happened right after this break. stay
00:03:52with us
00:03:54of
00:03:56of everyone.

00:12:04Thank you for staying with us everyone, joining me tonight is the former caretaker
00:12:08chairman of Obiako local government area in River
00:12:12State, ambassador Chijo K uh, thank you so much
00:12:16for joining us on the program, ambassador, you've been on this show
00:12:20twice in the past two years and as one of um
00:12:23governor Fubara's CSS defenders against the
00:12:27FCT minister today, I hear that you are
00:12:30supporting the rainbow coalition align with here some wicky, what
00:12:34exactly
00:12:35changed?
00:12:40Okay, um, you are aware that my
00:12:43principal is the governor
00:12:46of university, and he has said there is
00:12:50peace in university and that we need to move as a
00:12:53state. that uh, if we truly support him, we
00:12:57should join him to the real coalition, so we are joining the
00:13:01governor, who is our leader and my principal to rainbow
00:13:05coalition, that is what we are doing for peace to rain
00:13:09in our states, we are supporting our governor because we want peace in
00:13:13our state, because he is our leader
00:13:16and we are going to follow him wherever he goes to, he has told
00:13:19us, if you love me genuinely follow me to whever i'm going
00:13:23to, so we following the governor to where... going to that is where we are as Saturday river
00:13:27state. in his recent interview, the FCC
00:13:31minister said governor Fubara became the biggest
00:13:34loser in this crisis because he listened to wrong advisors
00:13:38who encouraged him to fight instead of reconcile,
00:13:42and that was what cost him the chance of second term. you were one the
00:13:46governor's closest political allies throughout
00:13:50that crisis. do you acknowledge tonight that you and others
00:13:54around him gave him bad political advice
00:13:58that deepen the
00:13:59crisis,
00:14:03well that is not true, that information is not true,
00:14:07like tell people have a personal relationship with the governor, became the
00:14:11governor reversity, everybody is aware, we
00:14:14participated when he was given the candidates of
00:14:18people's democratic party to run for the office the governor,
00:14:22then i was leader and reversed it, we mobilized
00:14:24you reversed. so look, we have seen a man that has conscience because i have met
00:14:28with him, i've dealt with him before now, let the youth come out and let us
00:14:31support the governor, and the governor was
00:14:35elected and he became the governor university, lot of things was
00:14:38happening before the crisis started,
00:14:42so you don't expect a man who has
00:14:44relationship with him, then i will not abandon him, let
00:14:48tell you, i have a force in this state
00:14:52whether i like it or not, because i command the young people as at that
00:14:56time even till now so I have
00:14:58no option that to support the governor because I know he was doing the right thing so
00:15:02for me nobody is loser nobody is a winner we are back to where
00:15:06we are because this state belongs to all of us and the governor wants to to the land of peace fact i've
00:15:10never seen anybody in this country that like his
00:15:14excellency sirbara the governor is a
00:15:17man I love peace is a man that has conscience so for me
00:15:21nobody decives the governor we are still with the governor till tomorrow I
00:15:25tell you, I am standing with governor, he has told me,
00:15:29look, and all of us who believes his
00:15:31ideology, let us
00:15:34see this word and let us move forward and support the rainbow coalition.
00:15:37your that position is why we are following his footstep and say look i
00:15:41hear you clearly and but
00:15:42i i'm understand just wondering hold
00:15:45on so it will be it will be it will be uh it will be a
00:15:48disrespect okay to the officer when your principal will tell you
00:15:52the chairman made me elected chairman give instruction i will say
00:15:56i will follow i am following the instruction the governor to the later i understand that you're
00:16:00following mr governor's instruction but where does that leave you in
00:16:03principle because in our previous interviews you
00:16:06repeatedly at accused wicky's camp of trying
00:16:09to own rivers state, you said rivers people had rejected
00:16:13them and even insisted nobody could force governor Fubara
00:16:17to surrender the state's future, today you're joining
00:16:21the same political family, were you wrong then or you are wrong
00:16:24now? my
00:16:28brother, let me let tell you um in politics anything
00:16:32happen in politics, like i said i have a principal who i am working with, i said
00:16:36look let us word and move
00:16:39forward, so you don't expect me
00:16:42uh to start fighting, say look, we are all from river
00:16:46states, let us go back to our political family, all of
00:16:50us were there before now, before this crisis came up, so somebody can tell
00:16:54me that i know what i'm doing and i'm a responsible man and i know
00:16:58what the good and the r, but look, if you love me,
00:17:01genuinely follow me, and i love the governor, everybody knows
00:17:05that, you can tell doing the crisis, you explained because i love
00:17:09food and
00:17:09i love her state so he has said look shift and let us move forward
00:17:13so what has happened before is the past we are not moving forward
00:17:16because we want this in our state and that is why we are doing the line of our governor so look
00:17:20follow me if you love me that is why we are doing that so again
00:17:24want our st to be very peaceful people can go and do their business i
00:17:27understand your love for mr governor but i'm talking about the principle of
00:17:31your position mean the your love for mr governor can't be
00:17:35at the expense the entire these were the same people you
00:17:39said were not interested in the future the state that
00:17:43they wanted to hijack it, have you suddenly have the suddenly
00:17:46changed that you now believe that they can
00:17:50steer the state to the right course and make it
00:17:54prosperous again, i'm talking about the principle the matter now, have i
00:17:58have told have told you that they are making the st to move forward, i am only telling
00:18:02you that i a call loyalist of and he
00:18:06has told me look, let us move forward and forget about the
00:18:09past, so we to talk about the past to bring it
00:18:13to the president, say look, forget about those things that
00:18:16happened, if you love me genuinely, i am not the governor, if your
00:18:20principal should tell
00:18:21you look, forget about all has happened, move forward, so i
00:18:24think we forget about that, we moving forward, so
00:18:28let's forget about the past and let the line of peace, that is why we are today,
00:18:32well talking about forgetting the past, the river state chairman
00:18:35the national youth, uh council
00:18:39says if your conversion to the rabal coalition is
00:18:42real or genuine that you should publicly
00:18:45apologize to three people e
00:18:48listed right honorable
00:18:51chinda and of course the river state house of assembly he
00:18:55said for statements and actions um during the
00:18:59crisis will you
00:19:01apologize
00:19:06talking about the chairman? we only have one chairman of you council
00:19:09uh is the chairman of you council the person talking about
00:19:13is an imposter he has been part of you council when i was
00:19:16council and today he's talking about youth we have left
00:19:20mainstream politics in university not talking about youth council i don't know him
00:19:24if
00:19:24it were issued
00:19:26that k of statement think i can begin to respond only have one chairman of
00:19:29counsel is the chairman the national of state the
00:19:33other person is
00:19:34not existing i also know before now he was he has been following me
00:19:38around when i was chcel, i'm done with you, i'm talking
00:19:42about moving forward as a man, so the person talking about that, i don't
00:19:46know to me, so i can't answer that kind of question,
00:19:49interestingly he has accused you and former chief of uh chief of staff
00:19:53edition a of sponsoring a parallel youth council
00:19:57structure that according to him as wicking the recognized
00:20:01uh NYCN leadership during the political crisis
00:20:05um when you talk about peace and we keep
00:20:09hearing factions and differences in this
00:20:12regard, how much of peace really do we have in river state
00:20:16today?
00:20:20well, like I said before he said the
00:20:24person the person is unknown to me talking about functionalizing you groups in rev state, it's
00:20:28not true, we have a functional you council led by comment
00:20:32who is from leader
00:20:34the the reversed, I think he did perfectly well.
00:20:37here, or so somebody coming to issue a statement that I and the Edison are
00:20:40fashionizing Council University, it's wrong, it's
00:20:44he's there not, neither we don't know that is unknown to me as far
00:20:47as I'm concerned, we have. we have had our governor who's our principal
00:20:51say look let us move forward
00:20:54we want peace in our states
00:20:55want our state to move for so that is that is the line what
00:20:59as his supporters and those who believe in the ideology
00:21:03of the governor of states
00:21:07let's talk about the allegations that you led supporters to the
00:21:10residence where the 27 lawmakers were
00:21:13meeting and created a situation that endangered the
00:21:17legislators do you accept any responsibility? for
00:21:21escalating tensions during that period, please,
00:21:23I don't get the volume is too,
00:21:25I can't, I can't hear what you're saying, please, I'm talking about the allegations that you led
00:21:28supporters to the residence the law
00:21:30makers, uh, and they said that created a
00:21:34situation that endangered the legislators, do you
00:21:38any way accept responsibility for
00:21:42escalating intentions during that
00:21:44period, was my
00:21:48brother, listen to me, that was... you see when we talk about uh we talk
00:21:52about peace we don't begin to bring pasters we have passed this uh uh
00:21:56this this this question asking me you also aware a lot of things happened during
00:22:00that period so i think for me
00:22:02i have forgotten the past and we are moving forward what happened was during the crisis i would not need
00:22:05to begin to talk about what has happened before now so that
00:22:09people don't get angry so we are moving forward as a state
00:22:13and like tell you people like us have moved forward because the
00:22:17govern say look if you love me follow me - but have said no, but because we
00:22:21love the governor genuinely, that is why we are following him, most of us who
00:22:24are with the governor left to other political parties to run election, so you don't
00:22:28expect me to leave my principal who has said this is the made you to be council
00:22:32chairman, who made you to be chical committee chairman and you're leaving to join
00:22:36opposition, we said no, we are going to follow him since he
00:22:40wants peace since i say look follow me, so what has happened in the
00:22:43past should be the past, we're talking about the present and how the state will move
00:22:47forward, thank you, i like your forward thinking men
00:22:49reality, but humans, it doesn't work for
00:22:53humans, for many people like that, you just don't wipe out completely the
00:22:57memory of what has happened in riversed, especially for journalists who
00:23:01cover that story day and night, but let ask you this
00:23:04personally, is there anything you regret about your
00:23:08conduct during the river state
00:23:10crisis?
00:23:13well, let tell you, frankly
00:23:16speaking, do not regret anything. don't get
00:23:20anything, did not, what i did i supposed to do it
00:23:28offence then i was leader states and the question were asking what is the the governor, they want to be impeached, that is why you are
00:23:32say no, we allow that to happen in our states and
00:23:36just stay two months in office i want to be removed,
00:23:39so like told before we are moving forward and we
00:23:43believe that space in our states and i want to join all of my friends
00:23:47who are key supporters to sil Bara to th the line of
00:23:51peace and let us support him, you have mentioned governor
00:23:55Fubara a couple of times during this conversation, are you ready now to
00:23:58work with some wike because
00:24:02apparently is the one leading the rainbow coalition? Are you
00:24:06ready to work with him and his men ahead of
00:24:082027?
00:24:11Well, I've told
00:24:14you before he said I keep on mentioning my principal, you also played when you
00:24:17started your program where he say look. that we are moving forward, he
00:24:21has joined the political family, the r coalition,
00:24:25that was following genuinyly should also follow, so whatever my
00:24:29principal does,
00:24:30that's what i'm going to do, so have any option to say to work
00:24:33together to ensure that all the members of coalition will be elected
00:24:37including mr president, said me to be a descending voice when
00:24:41your principal remember made you from chairman,
00:24:45chairman and say you want to be disrespect to his office, whatever the
00:24:48governor say that is
00:24:49what i'm going to do "but
00:24:51you know what I'm talking about, you're from Obiako, where many of Wick supporters are from, and
00:24:55the speaker supporters, are you going to
00:24:59be working with their men ahead the
00:25:02forthcoming election, and just how do you intend to do that,
00:25:06given the kind of animosity we've reported between you both in the
00:25:09past? what's your strategy? well,
00:25:13um, my leader has given instruction that we must
00:25:17work to ensure that the coalition" secures victory
00:25:20revers it, i'll go back to my local government at the time
00:25:23of my leader to also do that, he is directing, he has told us what to
00:25:27do and we are going to do that, so you are not
00:25:30from
00:25:32local government, my local government, so we not ourselves politically, so we're going to
00:25:36resolve our matter within us, all right, we're looking forward to that
00:25:40and it will be an interesting watch as we count down to uh the
00:25:442027 election ambassador, when you when you appeared on this
00:25:47program last year over um allegations, i think it
00:25:51was over allegations of um assembly
00:25:55fire, i remember you told me that you are not
00:25:59a man that betrays your critic.
00:26:03now say you've betrayed your own principle of
00:26:07joining someone you claimed wanted to make rivers is
00:26:11private uh property. before we go tonight,
00:26:15why should Nigerians take you seriously going
00:26:16forward? uh, let
00:26:20tell you something, I'm a very serious mind person and I have
00:26:24questions, if you're following a man and the man say,
00:26:27look, you are here because you're following
00:26:30me, you
00:26:32are here because... because you love me, you're here because you supported me, and
00:26:35please, can we now make peace, can we now move the st
00:26:39forward? you don't say he don't, he don't expect me to follow my principal because he want
00:26:42peace, so if i start making crisis, who will i fall back to,
00:26:46i the governor of river states, i have a leader, i have a principal and
00:26:50i'm not betrayed him, we are still working together, i
00:26:53has given instruction, the instruction is look, we must come back to our
00:26:57family, let there be peace in our state, so that is where we
00:27:01stand, have you seen anywhere? close to any of those
00:27:04persons um like the speaker is from my place
00:27:08to him person because my principal say look we are working together as
00:27:12team let us walk together and i'm following his footstep to say
00:27:16look let there be peace
00:27:17in our st so me to start fighting i starting more crisis when i
00:27:21have a leader that i'm working with instructions i mus obey the
00:27:25instruction the governor who is my direct principle i
00:27:28say if you love me genuinely please peace
00:27:32today in our states, you must follow whatever i'm saying, i have no
00:27:35option that to follow him so that we peace in our states,
00:27:39because
00:27:39we have, we don't want crisis anymore,
00:27:42so you don't, like i said before, when your principal gives order, he say he bring a
00:27:45descending voice,
00:27:47it amount
00:27:47to disrespect to his office at the governor of river state, the governor say look, follow
00:27:50me if you love me j,
00:27:52what i'm doing is not it anybody, i am following the governor because he
00:27:56was the made me known to the public today
00:28:00as form so
00:28:03it's a pr i can't take for granted whatever he directs me to do that
00:28:06is what i do he has said follow me and i'm following him the way he has directed so it
00:28:10sounds like um you're doing this against your will just
00:28:14because the governor said so if the governor wakes up tomorrow and say let's
00:28:17resume my way let tell you something if you want peace if you want
00:28:21peace you must told the line of peace the gover is a man of peace and i said look
00:28:25for us to be peaceful in our states all of this political
00:28:29crisis can you please let us move together as
00:28:33team and that is
00:28:35what i did and everybody has follow suit, those are not with us are in
00:28:38different party, i have the capacity
00:28:40to go to another party and pick from to run an election, but i'm not interested, because
00:28:44do that they will say gover is funding me,
00:28:47my life to his excellency the governor
00:28:49of university and that is why i'm still here, i'm sitting here today, i'll follow him to the letter, whatever
00:28:53ask me to do
00:28:55i don't mind this critice of anybody who wants to say anything because he's my
00:28:58principal, i can go to adc, i can go to NDP, i can go to anywhere and pick
00:29:01ticket
00:29:02to run election
00:29:02but I'm not interested because that will be amounting to causing more crisis for my
00:29:06principle so I'm
00:29:07not ally with him whatever he said so that is what I'm doing good place to leave
00:29:11it chairman local government area
