00:01:40and thanks for joining me on the news at 7.
00:01:43of I of am Veronica Dani. We start off in Abuja where
00:01:47President Bolatinu has directed the economic and
00:01:50of financial crimes commission, that's the EFCC, to
00:01:53of
00:01:53of immediately withdraw record order freezing the accounts
00:01:56of the Oshin State Government. The
00:01:58of president says that timing
00:02:00of the action coming before the state's governorship election could
00:02:03undermine public confidence in the integrity
00:02:06of the electoral process. In a statement personally signed
00:02:10by him, President Tinubu said he respects
00:02:13of the independence
00:02:14of the anti-corruption agencies, but was not aware
00:02:17of the EFCC's decision before it was taken. He
00:02:21acknowledged the
00:02:22of EFCC's legal powers to investigate alleged financial
00:02:25crimes, but stress that government institutions must act in
00:02:29ways that. protect trust in Nigeria's democracy. The
00:02:32president has ordered the anti-graft agency to return to court,
00:02:36vacate the
00:02:37of order and discontinue the action against the ocean
00:02:40a state government.
00:02:44Now, Director General Center for Credible Leadership and Citizen's
00:02:47awareness, Dr. Ngambu Gabriel joins me on the news at
00:02:50seven to talk more on this. Thank you for joining us on the
00:02:56of news. Good evening and thanks for having me. You're
00:03:00welcome. Now how do you interpret President
00:03:03Molatinu's directive to halt economic and
00:03:07financial crimes commission's action against
00:03:09of Aushen State just days before the
00:03:15of election. Thank you so much for that very Germany
00:03:18question. You see, the EFCC
00:03:22establishment act of 2004, if you look
00:03:26a at section
00:03:27of 34, um, it's very clear. on and
00:03:31unambiguous, you know, it empowers the chairman of
00:03:35EFCC or anybody
00:03:37representing him to issue a
00:03:40temporal freeze
00:03:45of any account, be public uh
00:03:48of government
00:03:49of or sub national uh government, you know,
00:03:53although this
00:03:54of has um,
00:03:57in you know, generated lot of argument because um, some
00:04:00of critics,
00:04:00you know,
00:04:01in have argued that this is actually, this singular
00:04:05act is enfrigging on what is
00:04:09called
00:04:09of the true federalism of any given state,
00:04:13you know, that if institution
00:04:15of the federal arm of government can be
00:04:19used against the subnational,
00:04:23of you know, that it then undermines through
00:04:26a federalism as it were, however, the president
00:04:30and commander in chief had actually
00:04:33you know asked the EFCC to
00:04:37um immediately go to court and vacate that
00:04:40of order and unfreeze the account why?
00:04:44because
00:04:44of Mr. President and Commander in chief has gotten
00:04:48a big heart
00:04:50of because the president you know
00:04:53of of is politically mature, that is what I call it, he is
00:04:57politically mature because... he feels that
00:05:01this thing already is breeding
00:05:04you know negative
00:05:06uh um energy already, lot of people are complaining that
00:05:10it is because it is an opposition. and because the election is in
00:05:14few days,
00:05:15you know, about a week or there about,
00:05:17you know, and then the the the the federal government,
00:05:21you know, wants to stifle you know the
00:05:25shun state government of, but this is not true, because
00:05:29Mr. President has demonstrated that
00:05:32he is, you know, the president the Federal Republic of
00:05:35Nigeria, interesting, and the father the nation, however,
00:05:39some other persons are cross section of... country believe
00:05:43that perhaps this is a form of interference
00:05:47by the president uh on the activities
00:05:50of an ass a unit that is
00:05:54meant to be able to handle things on their own,
00:05:57because organizations like this are meant to have their own powers,
00:06:01be able to execute whatever it is, the the the
00:06:05constitution has empower them to do and the act that
00:06:09enables them to work has empower them to do so that the pres president is
00:06:12not meant to interfere, how do you respond to
00:06:15that? yes, arguably
00:06:19you could say yes, you know, right now, lot of
00:06:23people, um, especially critics are saying
00:06:27that, this is a presidential fiat,
00:06:30you know, intruding on what is supposed to
00:06:34be um, you know, institution of
00:06:37government, so with this kind
00:06:40of um, executive feat
00:06:43of government that it means that
00:06:46it is interfering on the statutory
00:06:49function the EFCC as it were,
00:06:53but I want to remind every critic of something,
00:06:57Nigeria is evolving democratic
00:07:00states. what the president and commander in chief
00:07:03has done is in the interest the federal Republic of
00:07:07Nigeria, he has demonstrated capacity as
00:07:11father. the nation, he has demonstrated that
00:07:15he is not interested in stiffling opposition government
00:07:19as it were, but
00:07:21you know critic will always want to say one thing or the other to
00:07:24undermine the good wills and the good intention quickly, if i get you
00:07:28correctly, if the president had not interfered, that would have
00:07:31been that he was stifling the opposition, is that what you're
00:07:34saying? i am not saying that, i have not
00:07:38said that, i'm saying that what the critic had
00:07:42already opind before now is that the
00:07:46the the APC led government is trying to stiffle the
00:07:50opposition as it has appeared in oshin
00:07:53state, but what Mr. President and Commander in chief has
00:07:57demonstrated is that he has what
00:08:01is called political maturity. All right, he is
00:08:05there to welcome both opposition and
00:08:08members the ruling party alike and then he is interested in
00:08:12ensuring that there is level playing ground for either
00:08:16opposition or ruling party as it were, we'll have to leave the
00:08:20conversation here, we must thank you, DG center for
00:08:23credible leadership and citizens awareness, Dr. Ngambu Gabriel
00:08:27for your time on the news at seven, thank you so

00:10:52greay list was not an oc accident, it was
00:10:56a product of vision, discipline, collaboration
00:11:00and sacrifice. it demonstrated that when government
00:11:04institutions pull in one direction, even
00:11:08the steepest mountain becomes
00:11:11pathway. our exit from the gray list
00:11:15was not our destination, it was only a

00:12:53in shaping the national

00:12:58leading hundreds of officers
00:13:02who must be told about the state police, who must be
00:13:05educated about state police, to
00:13:09alleivate their fears, because the are fears
00:13:12everywhere, and it's our duty to educate
00:13:16them and let them know what the state police is all about. the federal government of
00:13:20Nigeria have made up their mind to have the state
00:13:23police and and it is our duty to our

00:13:30not the issue of us only, this is the
00:13:34issue the federal government of Nigeria and the
00:13:37people of Nigeria. so the most important thing is
00:13:41to listen very well, ask questions, how this thing is going to
