00:00:49The Trump administration
00:00:50of rejects all seven candidates of vine for the UN secretary general
00:00:54job and maintains it will only support
00:00:56of candidate with strong interest in global reform and commitment. to President Trump's
00:01:00ideas for the leadership
00:01:02of the United
00:01:03Nations,
00:01:07and also to come on the program
00:01:08a is President Trump's alleged agreement between Russia and Ukraine on
00:01:11energy
00:01:12seasfire.
00:01:30As a world await a permanent si fire in the war between Russia and Ukraine, the United
00:01:34States President Donald Trump has announced immediate energy cease
00:01:38fire between
00:01:39of both sides, but
00:01:40of President Trump's Ukraine's president rather, Voladimir Zelenski says his
00:01:44country is still waiting details
00:01:46of the proposed arrangement. With a post on his truth social
00:01:50platform, President Trump announced the agreement on Sunday,
00:01:53declaring that is fire was effective immediately, urging
00:01:57both nations not to violate it. The US president did not provide
00:02:01details
00:02:02of the terms
00:02:02of the
00:02:03of ceasefire of and Russia has not publicly confirmed the arrangement,
00:02:07but Ukraine's president
00:02:08a says he supports the proposed fire emphasizing that Russia
00:02:13a must also agree to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy
00:02:20of a infrastructure.
00:02:21of
00:04:35journalists on journalist hangout
00:04:58trump said he has broker between. Russia and Ukraine and is an energy
00:05:02seasfire, it means that both sides would stop attacking each other's
00:05:20you live in the US, I'm sure that you've been following the story, President Trump says that both
00:05:23parties agreed, and before what we are hearing from President
00:05:27Zelensky is that he's yet to see the terms
00:05:30the agreement, he initially said that it was news to him, he learned
00:05:34from social media, cremlin has also has not
00:05:38also said anything, can you have sice fire where one party f
00:05:42out from truth social and the other doesn't confirm confirm at
00:05:46all? well, this this is just
00:05:50testament of how the present administration
00:05:53handles uh diplomatic situations. um, this
00:05:57is not the first time we're seeing things of this nature, especially coming from
00:06:01this administration, it's a it's a it's it's
00:06:05a it's a different way, it's it's a different political
00:06:08landscape and everybody is
00:06:12very surprised and uh
00:06:15you know just going back if
00:06:17you look at the antecedent is
00:06:18you would not
00:06:20uh
00:06:20this you would realize the that first time um that you
00:06:24will you know get information or obtain information
00:06:28via the internet or social media knowing fully
00:06:32well that um this is not
00:06:35this is not protocol this is not what you know it's everyone's
00:06:39used to however uh things are definitely uh
00:06:43changing politically, economically, and
00:06:47um, this is just the way that the current administration wants
00:06:50to tackle the issue, however, um, it's
00:06:54one-sided most definitely, and
00:06:58um, I'm pretty certain that we're not going to hear, this is
00:07:02not the end of it, this is just the start, and just talking
00:07:06about not been the end, um, as after the announcement, president Zelenski
00:07:10said, Russia hit her key power plant. and lost the shahit
00:07:13all day, um, if Russian drones are
00:07:17still in in sky after effective immediately that present some
00:07:20said, was c fire broke out between both parties,
00:07:24um, is this sice fire that never happened or or rather
00:07:28um, is sice that
00:07:29this fire never existed? some
00:07:33um analysts are the opinion that it probably could have
00:07:36been another stunt by the present united state
00:07:39administration to uh cohars or... or try
00:07:43to force or entice both parties, I'm talking
00:07:47about Russia and Ukraine back to the drawing board or to the negotiating
00:07:51table uh based on that fact, speculations and
00:07:55and forest forest agreement out in the
00:07:58media, so they might be compelled to actually have sitdown and
00:08:02have this dialogue or conversation. now will that work, that's also up
00:08:06in the air, however there are uh some really
00:08:10fundamental issues going on um "the price of
00:08:13diesel is astronomical right now and it is
00:08:16affecting um everyone across board,
00:08:20particularly farmers in the United States and
00:08:24price of diesel is very unaffordable,
00:08:27however the meet is up in the corner um elections so
00:08:31in in some areas are already begun and um
00:08:35every every administration currently is trying to score
00:08:38a chip political goal and that would be if
00:08:42possibly they could have prices of diesel to go down
00:08:46and what other way that you could do that
00:08:50is to you know just pull that and see
00:08:53if that that's going to be a thing so
00:08:56again uh it's it's something that's
00:08:59definitely we could hear some more details before the end of
00:09:03today however uh it's very unfortunate that we're hearing the
00:09:07news uh from the social media platform but
00:09:11then again politically things to changing
00:09:14drastically and um we're just going to have to wait
00:09:18and see how this unfolds eventually
00:09:21so if you remember we had this um exact headline in mid September President Trump announce
00:09:25that this is fire and neither side confirmed as strikes
00:09:28continue is it sort of repeat of announcement you know using
00:09:32a announcement as some some sort of
00:09:35policy well the announcement can always
00:09:39come what we need is actual uh of
00:09:42hostilities from both sides, there have been talks and conversations in the
00:09:46past where uh the president administration
00:09:50at um indicated that they have told but parties not to
00:09:54attack their basic infrastructure,
00:09:57especially oil and gas and all of that, but that's i mean
00:10:01it's a war and nothing is off the table and that's what
00:10:04is kind of playing out, but these has a
00:10:08larger and a bigger effect globally and
00:10:12and um recently we just had the president uh publicly
00:10:16chestised uh the Ukrainian counterpart is Ukrainian counterpart
00:10:20and calling for fresh elections in Ukraine uh I mean you could
00:10:24tell like the... there is a love hate relationship
00:10:27between uh president Trump and and
00:10:30Zelensky currently, but then again
00:10:34um the the president, I mean the United State president is known
00:10:38to you, sometimes changes mind a naked
00:10:42time or or any time he chooses or
00:10:45wants to, so again this is all a
00:10:49political theater and we're all you know
00:10:52spec, it's it's a it's a huge spec. practical and it's just the
00:10:56way that things are going, it's very different, it it's not
00:11:00conventional like we used to, so uh fingers in the
00:11:04air or fingers crossed, there's no saying this
00:11:08we're not very certain how it's going to go, but definitely
00:11:11people are still dying, prices are
00:11:15are astronomically getting unaffordable across board
00:11:19is is affecting every country in every corner the world and
00:11:23it just has to be solution to this.
00:11:25and then again who knows, maybe this might be uh a
00:11:29way to actually come have them come together and negotiate
00:11:33and have dialogue, so who knows if this is actually gna
00:11:36work at this time, but again it's still up in the air,
00:11:40but if you protect energy right, but allow strikes on
00:11:44everything else, bridges, um, apartment blocks,
00:11:48um, frontlines, is it humanitarian
00:11:51step or just protecting oil price while work?
00:11:55continues for civilians, it's a
00:11:59legitimate question, but then again, um,
00:12:02there are some conventions of war and some some things
00:12:06that's like nogo area when it comes to war, but like I said
00:12:10before, when it comes to this type of war, which
00:12:14is um, all connected and
00:12:18there's a multi-dimensional way that you could look at it or think about
00:12:22it, um, some people are cing of
00:12:25patrition, it's just not just when on the surface
00:12:29we're looking at Ukraine and Russia, but there's so many strings attached to it,
00:12:32this a multiple uh number of countries that
00:12:36are for and and and against so uh
00:12:40multi faceted I would say, but yes uh
00:12:43civilian lives and property, especially civilian infrastructure
00:12:47should be no go, but um when it comes to war uh
00:12:51and in this case where we're learning the hard way that nothing... is off the
00:12:55table and uh people are dying, which is uh
00:12:58despicable and unfortunate, and the only way
00:13:02that that could be salvaged, it's to have some form of
00:13:06normalcy, and the first step to normalcy is to achieving
00:13:09normalcy is to make sure that both
00:13:13counterpart, the Russian side and the Ukrainian side come back to the
00:13:16drawing board and
00:13:19I want to ask you because just because of what you said both sides
00:13:23come back to the drainboard. both know that President Putin is not want to because into
00:13:27agreements like this, he doesn't also seem desperate to get out the
00:13:30wall, and so what what's a likely chance that he he agrees to
00:13:34an agreement like this that he found are probably on truth
00:13:37social? well, a
00:13:41bunch of incentive going on right now, if
00:13:45first of all when
00:13:46the president um stated recently that he is in
00:13:49talks with the uh Russian president to
00:13:53have themselves. diesel to the international
00:13:57market to open up the market a little bit for for
00:14:00folks to get diesel coming from the russian side, that is a
00:14:04great relief for for the russian president,
00:14:08because now he has money to fund this war, but
00:14:12again that has to there has to be some form of
00:14:16authorization from congress, now that has not happened
00:14:19yet, now this is been touted in on social media so
00:14:23everyone is going to see that now could there be bait
00:14:27from the current administration to see if that would work out and see
00:14:31if the Russian president will actually take it
00:14:35up and come and and negotiate and and find a solution because
00:14:39they're also cash trap, there's so many uh blockage as far
00:14:42as uh their finances out there uh which is kind
00:14:46of affecting them socially and economically, however um
00:14:50this could be tactics and and the only way that we could justify
00:14:54or... or give credit to the current administration if this um
00:14:58pulls through and the uh and and and the Russian
00:15:02president actually uh takes it and then we have the
00:15:06Ukrainian side also come back and negotiate
00:15:09so again it's a tactics it's
00:15:13very possible where they accept it is up you know it's it's up to them but there's
00:15:16always a leverage from both sides and and um
00:15:20we're just waiting for uh you know one them to flinch and see if
00:15:24this is going to happen, but again, it's it's a very
00:15:28unfortunate decision and situation, and uh, we just have
00:15:32to kind of continue to encourage them
00:15:36to come back to... because that's the
00:15:46i heard i have few minutes, i just want wanted to ask you, i'm
00:15:50not likely, but if both sides agree, could it become the
00:15:53pathway to a broter agreement?
00:15:57well, it seems that both
00:16:01sides are really interested in seeing each other, because there's so many lives
00:16:05have been lost in um. those lives uh
00:16:08cannot be, there's no amount of dialogue that can you know
00:16:12bring those lives back and and those infrastructure running into billions of
00:16:16dollars uh it's going to take years and years to rebuild uh things are are really
00:16:20going bad for both sides regardless but then again if they
00:16:24could be a constructive uh conversation from both
00:16:27sides the isle to have maybe a little bit of
00:16:31agreement in in both sides maybe we could start off with
00:16:34sensation of hostilities temporarily and and and maybe that would
00:16:38be pathway to a broader success in this
00:16:42war. well,
00:16:59let's to development in the UN where the process is on process is
00:17:02ongoing for the choosing of new secretary general to take over
00:17:06from antono guuter. whose second term and of second and final
00:17:10five-year term ends this year, but the Trump administration has
00:17:14opposed all contenders for the topmost state, saying none the
00:17:18contenders in agreement with President Trump's world view and
00:17:22his desire for drastic changes to the global body. The US
00:17:26government slashed is contributions to the body through its withdrawal from multiple
00:17:29UN organizations, including the World Health Organization. It
00:17:33created his own body, the board of peace, to take over planning for the future. future
00:17:37the demolished gaza strip. Just like other permanent members the security
00:17:41council, the US has the ability to vito any candidate for the
00:17:45post. The current field of seven candidates includes
00:17:49mostly career diplomats, a former Costa Rica's Vice President
00:17:52Rebecca Greenspan is consistently pulling ahead. The
00:17:56state department says the US will only support nominee who shows
00:18:00an unwavering commitment to drive meaningful global
00:18:29you so much, we do appreciate that, now for getting to the
00:18:32conversation for 80 years, um, the US has never had to love
00:18:36the UN secretary. general, they just have to tolerate whoever the person
00:18:40is, but now the Trump administration wants someone who publicly commits to
00:18:44changes uh that it Trump administration requires, I just want to get your
00:18:47reaction to that.
00:18:51Well, um, it's not impossible and I, I guess
00:18:55um, Trump is trying to put
00:18:59his money where his mouth is, uh,
00:19:02being the biggest funder, I mean US is the biggest
00:19:06financier of... United Nations and under Donald Trump
00:19:10we've seen uh US pulling out of number of
00:19:14UN agencies including the World Health Organization
00:19:18and then some other uh bodies and this time
00:19:22around it was to be sure that whoever
00:19:25images as the next secretary general or scribe of
00:19:28UN uh as the interest of US
00:19:32at that and in somebody is pro
00:19:35Trump but question to as is how would the
00:19:39other UN security
00:19:41council uh allow us to
00:19:45get his way given the fact that
00:19:49there are five them who can actually vete to uh the
00:19:53nomination and it's like
00:19:57the US is taking delete unless it has
00:20:00coveredly gotten the
00:20:03approval of other UN member
00:20:07like France, UK, China and
00:20:09Russia, um, we might be heading to a
00:20:13situation where the chief cribe of un position may
00:20:17not be filled for some time to come, and that will be
00:20:20very tragic situation, because that will further paralyze the United
00:20:24Nations. Now, if the US blocks this one,
00:20:28um, because like you know to win, the candidate needs nine out of nine votes out of
00:20:3215, and no veto from the five big powers, now if the US
00:20:36blocks these um this seven and Russia and China decides to
00:20:40block the next ones uh or any one that the US
00:20:43prefers, what happens on January 1st, what would be the implication
00:20:47of not having a new United Nations Secretary?
00:20:50general: precious, two things will
00:20:54likely happen is either the UN will
00:20:57extend the term of antonio guterez for
00:21:01maybe six months or three
00:21:02months, or uh, they
00:21:06will defer the appointment of new
00:21:10secretary general, in which case the
00:21:13UN will be without a
00:21:17secretary general until when there is an... agreement a
00:21:20possible candidate and this is worrison for me
00:21:24because the UN has
00:21:26really uh has become like a
00:21:30toothless bulldog has been weakened to his
00:21:33knees um is what the worlds of UN does not
00:21:37even carry weight again you could see that even the recently
00:21:41conducted and uh recently add UN general assembly
00:21:45about 60% of those who attended were
00:21:48represented uh about 60% of world
00:21:51leaders that were in attendance were represented
00:21:55either by their foreign ministers or their vice
00:21:58president which shows that it has become more of
00:22:02a of a talk show and so I i
00:22:06think I will not I will not blame America
00:22:10um even now that US has
00:22:14caught uh funding to the United
00:22:17Nations uh the UN is... now
00:22:20looking on possible reforms of his
00:22:23institutions like margin some of his agencies
00:22:26and relieving some the stuff, but
00:22:30US is still not satisfied and that has left UN with
00:22:34about 4 billion dollars in budget deficit,
00:22:38so um as it were
00:22:41is that Donald Trump gets his way or the
00:22:45that will be founding paralysis for the for the
00:22:48UN, the... Rebecca Graspan
00:22:52from Costa Rica who is actually topping the
00:22:55opinion um former vice
00:22:58president of costa rica
00:23:01uh is is is is
00:23:05not enjoying the US support
00:23:09because the critical comment she allegedly has made about
00:23:13Israel uh and then the soft position
00:23:17on China and that is what uh see is all
00:23:20about uh unlike Nigeria where we just play
00:23:24father Christmas, the world leaders are no longer doing
00:23:28that, they are actually demanding -
00:23:31certain um privileges or should i say
00:23:35certain um results before
00:23:39they can commit their resources to funding
00:23:43agencies uh that that
00:23:46where they are playing any critical role so... it's it's in
00:23:50the lighting best interest of us to make this
00:23:54demand, but whether it will enjoy the support of
00:23:5814 other members of that part of
00:24:00that um uh council uh the
00:24:04five security members and the 10 non-permanent ones whether
00:24:08they will enjoy whether they will support let me just come
00:24:12in because we have a little time left
00:24:14and wanted to ask you about the African voice in the in the um organiz
00:24:18that organization and means United Nations, we both know that we're not part,
00:24:22Africa is not part of, it's not a permanent member the security
00:24:26council, what does it mean mean for the African voice if they're not able
00:24:29to at least have saying who becomes United nations security uh secretary
00:24:33general, united nations secretary general
00:24:35rather? well, what can
00:24:39we do? we actually are not at the we are not getting seat
00:24:43at the table and that's why even the recent call by
00:24:46president inugu for two permanents it is just a which.
00:24:50thinking which as i have said even on this platform may
00:24:54not happen, the reason being that one this position in for
00:24:58instance is rotational and it is the turn of latin america to
00:25:01produce the next secretary general, but
00:25:05be that as it me, we have f talks
00:25:08about jan infantino, fifa
00:25:12president being considered by donald trump, infantino is
00:25:16from Italy, it's not from latin america, then "there's a
00:25:20bulgarian that is also being considered, it tells you that the
00:25:24law is for the enemy, the exemptions are for your friends
00:25:27and when a nation
00:25:31put its own interests first like Donald Trump has tried
00:25:35to do, America first, this is what you see,
00:25:38Africa will continue to grown and moon, but what can
00:25:42they do, uh, the are they are actually secondary
00:25:46players in the UN, in the UN."
00:25:50general assembly and until when we ourselves get serious with
00:25:54our leadership, solving our leadership challenge and
00:25:57continuing to uh be less dependent on
00:26:01this... western world or the eastern block or
00:26:05whatever uh we will never be taken serious and that is why
00:26:09you know i have taken a position that let african
00:26:13leaders first looking what try to solve their
00:26:16governance challenge and put themselves a po
00:26:20position where they will be able to
00:26:23negotiate a strong term with the
00:26:27rest the world not uh being perceived as begger
00:26:30nations where every opportunity, you are asking for
00:26:34favor trade uh tr, you are begging
00:26:38for uh investment in
00:26:41security, you are begging for investment in trade
00:26:45and uh commerce, you are also
00:26:49begging support and all of that, perhaps it's
00:26:53time for the african you to start his voice, especially on a very critical matter like
00:26:56this, but we'll
