00:00:40government

00:00:46of of xenophobic attacks.

00:01:06sealing, well I'll be hanging out with Gani Kaidi,
00:01:10GKB and Ismile uho joins us from our Buja
00:01:14studio. Journalist Hangout starts right
00:01:17now.
00:01:30Now let's begin the conversation: migration should
00:01:35of of offer opportunities, not expose migrants to hatred
00:01:38of and danger. The federal government has evacuated another
00:01:41111 Nigerians from
00:01:44of South of Africa ameid concerns over xenophobic and
00:01:47Afrophobic attacks. The returnees comprising
00:01:5144 men, 23 women and 44
00:01:54children arrived in Lagos on the 8th of October. Their return
00:01:58brings the total number. of Nigerians evacuated from
00:02:02South Africa since
00:02:06of of June to 2037 with the latest barch of repetation funded by donation from
00:02:09the redeemed Christian Church of God (RSCG). Now what
00:02:13does this continued evacuation say about the safety of
00:02:17Nigerians abroad and the efforts to address
00:02:21xenophobia? now I mean GKB Nigers
00:02:24evacuated 2037 citizens from South
00:02:28Africa since June. talk to me, what's your assessment
00:02:31of Niger's response since this crisis
00:02:34began?
00:02:36of well, the government has done very well, they
00:02:40started very slowly, as you all know, lot
00:02:43of people
00:02:44of are complaining that they were not picked up on time, but as
00:02:48things went on, they got into their
00:02:50groove. this is not what we want to be talking about
00:02:54in agitas of today, exactly, we have serious challenges across the
00:02:58board. but the case of South
00:03:02of Africa of has become endemic, both in
00:03:05a shape and
00:03:05in form, buse you people decided that their
00:03:09fellow brothers and sisters, he wanting to
00:03:12a say they've broken the law, and then you take those who have
00:03:16of broken the law and you repatriated them, so I want
00:03:18you to just have a blanket reason to get
00:03:22everybody out of yeah, South Africa, nobody wants
00:03:26of criminal in their countries, but most
00:03:27of these people are children, they are... women, their children, they've
00:03:31done nothing wrong apart from look for better opportunities
00:03:35and to continue living what they
00:03:38of thought was an ideal situation, but having said
00:03:41of that, our people need to be
00:03:44of worry of countries that they go
00:03:46of to, and things that they do, because I don't see this thing ending
00:03:50any anyt zo, because you and I know
00:03:54that there are serious
00:03:55of economic crisis in South Africa, unemployment, and
00:03:59then the level, the gap
00:04:01of between the rich and the poor, is getting wider and
00:04:05of wider, so the easiest targets are
00:04:08of migrants, it's not talking about south africa, it's all over the world,
00:04:12even in some countries, a man in the UK who
00:04:15said they
00:04:17of should, they should burn nigerians and all
00:04:20a that, when a sit, so things like this
00:04:24are these dangerous rhetorics are not limited to south
00:04:27of africa, but is more profound, in the
00:04:31south African system. All right, Ismail, let's go to Ismail from our
00:04:35studios. I mean, should the government be doing more
00:04:38than returning the
00:04:40of student and the migrants
00:04:42of back to Nigeria. Do you think we should be doing more than
00:04:44that? Well, of
00:04:48course, um, there is no government that
00:04:51will want to watch each citizen anywhere
00:04:54suffer, unless of course, if that government is
00:04:58irresponsible or incapable of doing
00:05:01anything and
00:05:03of since this crisis started uh from the
00:05:07report, i think we have had
00:05:10of about 15 evacuations, even though... This latest one
00:05:13was uh fonded by the RCCG Redeem
00:05:17Christian Church
00:05:18Association
00:05:22Christian church and we must give them kududos and I think the federal
00:05:25government through the ministry as acknowledged you know that
00:05:29effort and um from the
00:05:33report I read I think um the fund they
00:05:37raised was over
00:05:40$200.
00:05:44to fund the evacuation of um 500
00:05:48Nigerians from South Africa back
00:05:52to Nigeria and I think so far uh they
00:05:56have evacuated 318
00:05:59leaving 182 more but that is not to say that the
00:06:03federal government to has not been upon doing in that
00:06:06regards uh I think federal government has brought
00:06:10in 1,3
00:06:14Okay uh, like my other brother said over there,
00:06:17um, nobody will tolerate a
00:06:20criminal within its meat, but you see it is not always
00:06:24good to make a generalization, sometimes when I
00:06:28watch the video of some Nigerians that have been attacked in
00:06:32South Africa, I feel very, very sad and I
00:06:35well,
00:06:36there was a particular one, there was a exchange between the Nigerian
00:06:40and the South African and...
00:06:43the man was trying to explain that look this business is operating you
00:06:46know on
00:06:48their land employees h their citizen and
00:06:52that if he closes it down that their own people to suffer
00:06:55but when government tries
00:06:58to uh play like i don't care
00:07:02attitude you know when when we
00:07:06are in when we're in the season of
00:07:08election uh politicians lch on
00:07:12anything to get to power, from some the
00:07:16reports we are reading, the political
00:07:19class appears to see it as a political
00:07:22suicider to openly speak against the
00:07:26xenophobic attacks happening in south africa, but
00:07:29but you allow the natives,
00:07:33yeah, looking at what you just said, do you think we've been too
00:07:37diplomatic and not assertive enough on this
00:07:41issue or? ly speaking, must confess to you, we've
00:07:44been
00:07:45too linient with the South African government,
00:07:48i support the idea of persons
00:07:52who argued that we probably should have
00:07:55touched some their economic interests, because you see, unless
00:07:59you sometimes unless you hold a human being by a
00:08:02scrutum, you are not likely to get what you want from
00:08:06him, i believe very strongly that if we had done
00:08:10if we had gone further rather than trying to
00:08:14play big brother and being unnecessarily diplomatic,
00:08:18perhaps South Africans would have uh think
00:08:21twice before doing whatever
00:08:23it is they are doing to us because historically speaking
00:08:27we contributed to the freedom they are enjoying
00:08:30today you some of us
00:08:32contributed our here and there you
00:08:35know and so and we did that without even
00:08:39getting anything in return from them and the only thing we get
00:08:43today is this unprovoked attack on our
00:08:46people, so I believe very strongly that if the government had comes
00:08:50stronger than it is, coming with regards to this matter,
00:08:54perhaps the government would have uh woken up to
00:08:57protect uh Nigerians that are in South Africa, even
00:09:01though Nigeria is actually dragged South Africa to the AU, but do you think GKB, do
00:09:05you think Nigeria should we think it's a diplomatic posture
00:09:09towards South Africa if the citizens are repeated? really
00:09:12unsafe: well, if it gets to point that you
00:09:16can no longer pretend that is
00:09:19just citizens complaining and
00:09:23using scrape goating, then we have to move up, but for now, i
00:09:27think the reaction is appropriate,
00:09:31buse don't forget that we are looking for investors, and
00:09:35this the only signal you can give to investors is
00:09:38stability, if every time the attack cause.
00:09:43car, you move against the interest in Nigeria, we are sending the
00:09:46signal that we are not consistent in our
00:09:50economic drive, that's not to say that we should look the other way,
00:09:54sanctions could be applied when appropriate, sanctions like what, sanctions
00:09:58like refusing fesa to South Africas coming to
00:10:01Nigeria, making sure that the repatriation of
00:10:05profits are in that in such a way to affect their
00:10:09economic interest in their country, because whether we like it
00:10:13or not, Nigeria is still the biggest market the
00:10:16biggest South African companies operating on the
00:10:20continent, we have the market, we are the market that they drive
00:10:23on so... yes ago, telecoms company's
00:10:27profit that came from Nigeria and profit gap
00:10:31was about 40%, even bigger than the one that are coming from their own
00:10:34country of South Africa, so we have the leverage, but it's not
00:10:38every time you go out of your way to use the
00:10:42the club to knock, but you first give them enough
00:10:46leverage to do the worst the can, then you
00:10:49moving, well not many people might want
00:10:53to agree with you on that one, but it's fine It's open actually, all right,
00:10:56gentlemen, let's move straight to our next conversation, as
00:11:00the 2027 elections draw closer, political
00:11:04parties are stepping up grassroots mobilization and women
00:11:08are making important contributions, women supporters the all
00:11:11progressives congress APC, inqu central have staged
00:11:15rally a lauring to mobilize support for
00:11:18presidentubu, governor Abdul Rahman Abdul Razzaq
00:11:22senatorial ambition and other party. candidates, the
00:11:25rally featured a procession through major streets and
00:11:29markets, they set the administration record in gender
00:11:33inclusion, empowerment and infrastructure development
00:11:36justify their support. now let's share the story by TVC
00:11:40News Ibrahim Malege with
00:11:42you.
00:11:47chanting solidarity songs and displaying party banners, this
00:11:51APC women marched through major streets and markets in Loren.
00:11:55demonstrating their support for the parties candidates ahead the
00:11:582027 general elections. the rally, which began at the
00:12:02general hospital roundabout passed through sorulere,
00:12:06agaka, ojoba, gambari, itaadu, kankatu,
00:12:10omenda and alori. their message is call for the re-election
00:12:14of president Bolatinobu, the election of governor Abdul Rahman Abdul
00:12:18Razzaq as the senator representing Quora central and the
00:12:21victory of other APC candidates across the state.
00:12:29led by the senior special assistant to the governor on women
00:12:32mobilization lawal
00:12:34the women said the rally reflects their confidence in the administration's
00:12:38performance and their desire for continuity all the
00:12:41kara central women are gather to do the rally for all the APC
00:12:45candidates in kwara state so we did not uh
00:12:49gather people from nowhere we just got the members of APC
00:12:53who voluntally come out to do this realization to do this way for all our candidates
00:12:57to emerge to promote them, to confast for them, to let
00:13:00them know the purpose of women, to let them know the women are behind them, and we
00:13:04also appreciate governor for the opportunity giving to the women, the
00:13:08youth to participate in politics and also show our talent and so that we are
00:13:11innovative, so our to motivate us as well, because we
00:13:15appreciating for the women that are in the cabinet in we only have
00:13:19APC and other party because they are minority to us, APC are
00:13:23the majority party in... state and we are fully with our
00:13:26ts telling the whole world that APC is only b state
00:13:30and we guarantee that we will be the winner the victory of this upcoming election
00:13:34inshallah. they believe voters have witnessed difference
00:13:38in governance and should sustain what they consider the
00:13:42administration's achievements. gender inclusion is
00:13:45major reason the women's sight for backing the governor's
00:13:48senatorial ambition. they said the administration
00:13:52has provided opportunities for women and young people to participate
00:13:56in governance, including appointments as commissioners,
00:14:00senior special assistants, and special assistants, describing
00:14:04this representation as evidence the governor's
00:14:07commitment to inclusive leadership. Deputy Speaker
00:14:11the Londre West Legislative Council, Sheriff Balogun also
00:14:15appeals to agried APC members to put their differences
00:14:18aside and work for the success the party's candidates.
00:14:22She insists the rally was voluntary. and reflects the
00:14:26commitment the party supporters, we are, we are in charge,
00:14:30i've said earlier, everything is in charge, we are just few them,
00:14:34few of us that came out today, because it's voluntary rally, nobody is
00:14:38paying us for everything, we the women want to show them that, because there's a lot
00:14:41of um work that the governor is doing for them to
00:14:45know what is going on in the state, our governor is performing and his
00:14:49continuity that will help us in this days, not that maybe we should change
00:14:52party, APC is in charge inshallah because directa and our people we didn't
00:14:56anybody, you can see all of us in uniform, we are in
00:14:59our
00:15:01sar toban uniform,
00:15:03so we didn't hire anybody for this
00:15:04occasion,
00:15:09the women say they will continue mobilizing support at the grass roads,
00:15:12hoping to translate the enthusiasm displayed at the rally into
00:15:16votes
00:15:17in 2027, ibrahim alege, tvc
00:15:21news, mean beautiful one,
00:15:25again now uh let me start with you, the the
00:15:29women came out in their numbers, talk to me about uh the
00:15:32political significance the
00:15:35rally? well
00:15:39um, for anyone who has been following political
00:15:42development inquire uh, you agree
00:15:45with
00:15:47me that really is what i refer to as a show
00:15:50of force,
00:15:52in Nigeria's political history,
00:15:55women, at least in recent times, women and the
00:15:59youth appear to form the larger
00:16:03percentage of those who come out to vote, and
00:16:07so for: to put themselves together to show
00:16:11solidarity for
00:16:13presidentubuction
00:16:16and the election the incubent governor
00:16:20in the state as senator, para central and all
00:16:24APC candidates. is also attempt
00:16:27to respond to those
00:16:31who are talking about the rainbow coalition
00:16:35inquiara, they have just told you that or told Nigerians and
00:16:38all of us that um they are supporting
00:16:42all
00:16:43you know APC candidates inquiera state, but
00:16:46beyond the mobilization, I will appeal to the
00:16:50APC leaders in the state
00:16:52to do more by ensuring that they meant
00:16:55their fences before the
00:16:58election.
00:17:00You see, sometimes when
00:17:02you see such mobilization,
00:17:06you will be... making a fool of yourself
00:17:09to sit down and believe that all them will come out
00:17:13on the day of election you know to to vote. there are someho may
00:17:17have attended that rally just so
00:17:20that you don't give them uh any other
00:17:24name. there are some women have attended that rally just
00:17:28to assess the situation. because i
00:17:32know that there are issues in qupc
00:17:35and saraaki is giring up
00:17:39seriously to regain
00:17:42control the politics of that state,
00:17:45therefore uh APC leaders in that state
00:17:48must uh try and reach out men
00:17:52Frances and ensure that they go into that
00:17:55contest you know as a
00:17:58unit, not a divided house, i i like
00:18:02that, he said that it shows that um the APC is fully grounded
00:18:06in inquire state, but looking at this, the women came
00:18:10out in their numbers, we cannot deny that. is this a true reflection
00:18:14the massive supports the APC enjoys in
00:18:17quara? this kara central, senatorial
00:18:21district, this is about the biggest cenatorial district
00:18:25in karara state due to the
00:18:28unfortunate
00:18:31bandity, lot of people have
00:18:34moved to kwara central for. they call
00:18:38the group safety mentality,
00:18:42so it's going to be very important, whatever result will come
00:18:45out of cour central. number
00:18:48one, the women generally in Nigeria is about
00:18:5148% the
00:18:54registered voters,
00:18:58but in terms of turnout, I think they do far better
00:19:02and the men, than the men, on so many levels, they are more
00:19:05committed across. all age caps, you see very
00:19:09old women you just wanted to vote, people in the
00:19:1380s, 90s, and some them as young as
00:19:1620, they are very dedicated to voting in
00:19:20elections, why some the men would tend to play football or
00:19:24watch television, but haven't said
00:19:27that, what is smaller said resonates with me on
00:19:31two levels, one, there's a chiism in
00:19:34qu right now, the puting together as a
00:19:38party is their total commitment to the election
00:19:42of Mr. President, Mr. President, after
00:19:46that, I think everything inqu is ho on
00:19:49your own, yeah, so I think it's going to be very interesting
00:19:53to see how the results the first Saturday will
00:19:57also reflect on the gumanitorial and as
00:20:00assembly elections, don't forget that
00:20:04some the major players that were thrown out. by
00:20:08the government, yes i have now equipped and got new
00:20:12recruits, when it comes to the governatorial level, yes, as
00:20:16you know, the candidate the governor is also the candidate the
00:20:19party is from very, very minor
00:20:23minority, i think they came from only about two local
00:20:26governments out of 16, okay, and
00:20:29you know what that means, the
00:20:30majority
00:20:34speaking parts of.
00:20:41and unless the men
00:20:42France the governor will get his
00:20:46senatorial things easily because
00:20:50it and the election will also come up on the day the presidential
00:20:54election, but more b
00:20:56that like ismile said about what we happen on the gobernatorial
00:20:59weekend, that is where the danger is,
00:21:03if the party do not get together and solve
00:21:06their, solve their problems.
00:21:09mean, you talk about the issues going
00:21:13on inquire state, what what will he take or who is that
00:21:17rallying person that can actually bring all the?
00:21:21forces together to work together, ahead
00:21:25of 2027, who is that person that can actually bring
00:21:29them to the table?
00:21:32unfortunately, there is no such person in cara,
00:21:36nobody, but Mr. President, yeah, unfortunately
00:21:40there is no such person inquire that can bring the APC together
00:21:44to work together as team, but Mr. President, if he
00:21:48decides to step in is... likely to get them
00:21:52to work together, especially
00:21:53for the governorship, what i see that is likely to
00:21:57play out, you the
00:21:59speaking qurans that's from the
00:22:03kara south, they had also
00:22:06agitated to govern the state
00:22:09as a matter of fact, they they they were
00:22:13supporting bb,
00:22:16the former party chairman who led the... campaign
00:22:20against Senator Bukola
00:22:24Saraki, unfortunately, shortly after the government was formed, the
00:22:28governor fell out with most prominent members the
00:22:32movement, and so some them
00:22:35as silently supporting the PDP
00:22:38candidate, which is been promoted by former senate
00:22:42president, Dr. Youkala
00:22:46Saraki, some have left the party,
00:22:50some are still in the party trying to see
00:22:53whether
00:22:54you know they will support the APC governorship candidate or not, but you
00:22:58see, if the entire kara south decides to
00:23:01support karara north hoping that when
00:23:05it is their
00:23:07turn, kwara not will support them, it means that what APC needs
00:23:11to do is to work very hard to divide the votes
00:23:15inquar centra, but if APC does not
00:23:19get b vo from kara north and kara
00:23:22south, then the outing will be
00:23:26very, very disastrous for them. because he talked
00:23:30about the president, the president cannot
00:23:34mediate everything, put up fs everywhere, but but can the
00:23:37party resolve the dispute without creating another
00:23:41crisis, a bigger crisis ahead of 2027.
00:23:44unfortunately, the man is supposed to be neutral
00:23:47is the also problem.
00:23:49part problem or the problem, the part the
00:23:53challenge that the parties f and that's Mr. the
00:23:56governor Razak Ramoni, sorry, Abdul Razzaq
00:23:59Abdulrahman, and uh, because he
00:24:03has made up his mind to install his
00:24:07successor, despite efforts by kara
00:24:10south to present the candidates, buse obviously the last two
00:24:14governors or there about have come from Kwara
00:24:17Central, you understand?
00:24:20Yes, people thought this time,
00:24:24and on paper, they are virtually the majority on
00:24:27paper, the reality, like I said earlier, due to
00:24:31the migratory factors in kwara, most people are now in kwara
00:24:35central basically, so unless
00:24:39the governor will go out of his way
00:24:42essentially to reach out and make
00:24:45concessions along the line, what is
00:24:49my? is
00:24:50it not too late? nothing is too late in politics. hm, you can still
00:24:53discuss on the morning the election, but my own take on this
00:24:57is very clear, from the feelers i get from the
00:25:01learning, everybody will work for the
00:25:03president, so that means the presidential
00:25:07weekend will probably be different picture
00:25:11okay, from the governatorial weekend, the will come
00:25:14after, but again as you've seen in
00:25:172019, if the... worlds
00:25:21are in such a shape that the
00:25:24opposition thinks they can get an advantage over the
00:25:28governatorial weekend, they will simply do what the opposition did
00:25:31with okay in 2019 uh ask
00:25:35everybody else to withdraw and then magrate
00:25:39against the common candidates all right beautiful
00:25:42one all right gentlemen we need to go on this quick break right now okay when we
00:25:46return the conversation continues don't go away this

00:26:48governor of Edo state, welcome to new era of
00:26:52transportation in ado state, announcer edo state
00:26:56government,
00:27:00leadership is not about taking the... easy path, it is
00:27:03about making the right decisions today to secure a better
00:27:07tomorrow. Under the leadership of President Bulla Akmed Tobo,
00:27:11Kogi states is witnessing transformational investments that
00:27:15are laying the foundation for lasting prosperity. Mr.
00:27:18President approved the Kogi International Airport, he also approved
00:27:22the ajaokuta free trade zone and the agro processing
00:27:26zone, positioning our state as a major commercial and
00:27:29agricultural hub in Nigeria. His commitment to
00:27:33reviving the ajaokuta steel company reflects a bold
00:27:37vision for industrial growth, job creation, international
00:27:41development. Across Kogi states, critical road
00:27:44infrastructure linking the federal capital territory to southern
00:27:48Nigeria is receiving attention, boosting mobility,
00:27:52commerce and economic opportunities. President Tinubo also
00:27:55took courageous steps to reform the economy by
00:27:59unifying the foreign exchange markets and removing the subsidy
00:28:03regime, these reforms are promoting transparency,
00:28:06strengthening public finances and redirecting resources to
00:28:10critical sectors such as infrastructure,
00:28:13education, healthcare and security. Today, security
00:28:17agencies are receiving greater support to combat terrorism and
00:28:21criminality. Through Nel Fond, more young
00:28:24Nigerians can access higher education, while Tech
00:28:28Fund continues to strengthen teatury institutions across the country.
00:28:32Investment in healthcare are also bringing quality medical
00:28:36services closer to the people. There is still work to be
00:28:40done, but the direction is clear. Nigeria is
00:28:43moving forward and Kogi state is benefiting from the renewed
00:28:47hope agenda. Mr. President, Kogi State is
00:28:51grateful. Powered by Governor Ahmed Usman O' Dodo, the
00:28:55chief servant of Kogi states. The joys
00:28:59of life are found in moments, moments that makes
00:29:02wonder, then fill our hearts with laughter,
00:29:06moments we risk it all for craving, but the reward makes
00:29:10it all worth it, moments when you remind everyone of your
00:29:14greatness, moments when you feel like you need a
00:29:17hero, then you realize you're the hero you've always
00:29:21needed.
